Well, lore wise there are most certainly female liches, in fact iirc every lich we encountered in GW1 had a different appearance ( although not necessarily a unique appearance). There was also the lich costume from GW1 which of course had a distinct female appearance http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
That said, the Lich form skill is a bit fuzzy lore-wise, it seems more like we’re channeling the power of a lich than actually becoming a lich, or something. Regardless though to my knowledge no other transformation skills have alternate appearances based on gender or race.
Also, maybe Queen Jennah is in fact the Krait Witch, could explain why she is always BAREFOOT – she just loves looking at her feet…
Exhibit A(?):With regards to ‘Queen’ Jennah, I always assumed it was because she’s actually a man in disguise, and can’t find shoes big enough for his feet.
Nah, she’s just trying to improve diplomatic relations with the norn.
So I know that necro’s support ability is something of a weak spot for us. And I know that some other posters would like to see the return of the Order spell from GW1 that was one of the GW1 necro’s support abilities. So I tried a few quick searches (and holy kitten the search actually worked!!!) but couldn’t find any threads talking about the potential ways to implement orders in the future in GW2.
For those who don’t know, in GW1 “Orders” were necromancer spells that applied an enchantment to the entire party that offered a powerful but short lived buff of some sort. These spells always had a health sacrifice as part of their cost and thus forced necromancers to balance spamming the order to buff their party while avoiding killing themselves with their own spell. It was a uniquely necromancer way of supporting a group.
The one Order that was different from the rest was Order of Undeath. It was different in that it was not an enchantment and only affected minions. But the really unique part in my opinion was that it also incurred an additional sacrifice from the necromancer every time a minion under the effect of the spell hit with an attack. I feel like these aspects of Order of Undeath would translate the best to GW2.
At any rate, you can probably guess what I’d like to see from an Order spell in GW2. An AoE spell that applies a unique effect to allies in the area, and every time the effect is procced a feedback effect is placed on the necromancer, be that a condition or an amount of damage as a health sacrifice.
This would promote more active and thoughtful skill use than some other support options that are just fire and forget. For example an order that placed vulnerability on your every time it procced wouldn’t be a very good thing to go and trigger while you’re being focused on, but if used intelligently can let you both buff nearby allies and then transfer a large stack of vulnerability to the enemy with one of our many condition transfers.
Just use the ones in Kessex hills instead of Queensdale
Ironically I was actually in Kessex hills when I was trying this.
Also they most certainly have a natural despawn timer separate of their open/closed status. All the doors that despawned as I ran up to them were very much closed, it wasn’t as though I was behind a group that was opening them all, there was hardly anyone in the area.
I did not know that they also appear inside the labyrinth though, so I will probably take that into account if this daily appears again, as the open world doors seem like a total crapshoot atm.
To people that are saying the Krait may have allied themselves to Scarlet Briar, I completely disagree with you. The Krait are very xenophobic and will enslave or kill all other species on sight. Why would they affiliate themselves to Scarlet? That is ridiculous. And if the krait did ally themselves that will make Scarlet the ultimate Villain Sue.
To Arena Net, I am impressed. We need more of this living and breathing in game, though. Please put more in game for future Living Worlds and not just the upcoming patch.
The dredge and flame legion were pretty xenophobic too but that didn’t stop them from following little miss perfect around.
Not trying to dispute your point, I really hope scarlet isn’t involved in this, all I’m saying is there’s a precedent for her flying in the face of established lore, logic and reason.
…unless it ends up involving Scarlet.
Precisely the reason I’m not getting my hopes up for this whatsoever…
The requirements for the crafting of any of this stuff is just absurd, it really does kind of feel like Anet’s trolling us with this. Instead of just removing things they give it the ole’ smiter’s boon treatment to ensure nobody uses it anyways.
(edited by Riot Inducer.8964)
So after trying to do the daily for completing the 5 door events I’m honestly a bit baffled at the design choices here.
First of all, what’s with the despawn timers? I had more doors disappear as I was running up to them than I actually opened.
Secondly, why does the daily have to be for completing five events that only have about a 1 in 5 chance of actually spawning? I opened a good 15 doors and only got 3 events before giving up on this one.
Finally could you give the “enter labyrinth” option an extra prompt or something, because I had to waste a lot of time and waypoint costs because of accidentally entering doors while I was trying to pick up the trick or treat bags.
Seriously, was just hoping for a bit of Halloween fun with my dailies this ended up not being worth my time and was not enjoyable in the least.
Angel the Wraith. Was my main all through gw1 so there was no way I was going to not use that name for 2
I would love to see the GW1 minion UI return so we can track the health of our summons. Actually I would love to have this for any class that uses summons; spirit weapons, elementals, etc. Bonus points if there’s a timer on the ones that are limited time.
All that said, minion command buttons are out of the question. I mean really, forgive me for sounding like a crotchety old man, but back in GW1 minions aggroed the kitten out of things and the only way to get them off of a target was for them or the target to die, period. No running far enough away that the teleport to you, nope once your minions opened fire it was a fight to the death. And you know what, that was GOOD, because they also head health degeneration so it was stupid to try and keep them around for too long anyways, really helped emphasize that they were disposable summons not lifelong friends like ranger pets.
Not sure why anyone would consider a necro starting with decent LF would be OP. It’s the class mechanic, it’d be like a ranger starting a fight with a dead pet or a thief blowing all their initiative and steal before the fight.
Sounds like these guys were just being sore losers.
Used to be that devourers were only a charr thing. Personally, if ogres have them tamed, that’s precedent that they’re tameable. I expect the reasons why we don’t have raptors, rock dogs and griffons is that they ran out of ideas of ways to make unique pets.
Something like that I think. iirc early in development it was said that nearly ever animal was tameable but when they started streamlining the pet system they had trouble justifying all the varieties of animals. In fact I know in one of the early trailers you can see a norn ranger with a griffon pet.
So we don’t remember big movers and shakers from our big wars and victories? I mean who remembers George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson… Heck, we remember Paul Revere, and his story is VERY small. BTW, all of these references are from a similar situation in my own nation from a very similar length of time ago… Our PC was trusted by the crown and all of it’s armies. In Kryta, at the very least, they fought against the white mantle/mursaat/jade armors in the very streets of Lion’s Arch, they joined the groups of Lionguard that were hunting down and destroying the Titans in North Kryta Province, and they don’t deserve any remembrance at all in this nation? I do not understand why some guy who just stood and said, “Hey, go kill this guy” deserves to have had more impact on the world than my own character. I don’t expect his name shouted out at every corner, obviously, but I would expect more about at the very least the events and the group of adventurers that conquered them. Thus far there’s only one random comment by some scholars talking about an ancient scroll talking about those adventures, other than that… Nothing.
On a side-note, I was a great friend of many norn… would they have really let me die without spreading my legend? If so, they are either terrible norn or terrible friends.
This is how most MMO’s record the player’s actions, they use a catch-all like “a group of adventurers” to describe the player’s actions since the player can conceivably be any of a massive variety of people. The fact that our GW1 characters can be from three entirely different continents makes it even harder to find a way to describe them beyond “group of adventurers” Devona & Co. complicate things further, were we the central character or were we just the sixth ranger for the group?
And in response to your original point, the world of GW2 very much remembers the big “movers and shakers” of GW1. Queen Salma has achieved the status of a household name in kryta, Rurik is as well, they don’t name a ward of a city after you if you’re some forgotten nobody. Jora and Pyre have big kitten statues to them and they each made a very big impact on their respective race. We went along for the ride sure but when it came down to it it was each of their own actions that made the difference. Pyre started the revolution that ultimately freed female charr from oppression, Jora was the first norn to fight Jormag’s influence and she is both honored and vilified for it.
One other thing to consider is, yes we remember all the big names from history. But how often do we actually talk about them on a daily basis? Unless you’re a historian I’m guessing not all that much. People haven’t forgotten GW1, it’s just not relevant to daily life in GW2.
Need I say more about this?
No, Necromancer Hammer
Yes, want Entropy for my necro.
Also, the better question is why Rytlock uses a one handed sword with no offhand weapon.
He uses a pistol in his offhand.
Another mask?
Seriously Anet, where did the helmets go?
Honestly gotta agree, it’s starting to feel like their artists have a fetish for masquerade masks at this point. I mean, about half of the light armors in the game come with a masquerade mask as headpiece, not to mention the mesmer starter ones, the Baroque mask for GW1 vets, the three masks from the Queen’s Jubilee and now this? I’m pretty sure everyone who’s ever wanted a masquerade mask has gotten one by now.
Idk, maybe the screenshot’s not doing it justice but I fail to see what’s remotely halloween themed about it. Looks like any other masquerade mask to me. :-/
IF you want people to really buy costumes make them useful and fun.
- Checkbox toggles to make said costume part replace currently equipped armor look.
- NPC so I can reclaim any costume/armor skin at any time on any character, just like in gw1.
Implement those and I’ll end up buying every single costume and armor skin in the gem shop. Currently I won’t touch them due to their poor implementation.
This! These are the reasons why I bought every single costume in GW1. GW1 costumes were great, they let you really diversify your style and were so easy to use.
I am very sad that this wonderful outfit is just a cosmetic item that I won’t be able to equip most of the time anyways.
Random observation on the fleshreavers in Brisban Wildlands. The area they appear in also has several naturally spawning flesh wurms and the area itself is rather close to Majety’s Rest from GW1. Just a hunch but I bet that group is linked to Rotscale somehow.
Well considering that Bone Minions already self combo off the death nova field I’m ok with them not getting the bonus Death Nova damage. Still I feel like the other sacrifice minion actives could benefit from Death Nova’s damage.
I just want a griffon, since launch…
You and me both
Reminds me a lot of the Guild Wars 1 Necro armor
Indeed, that’s what makes me want it so bad. There’s a very distinct lack of necro styled light armor in the game.
Well for one I’d like them to change Reaper of Grenth so it’s either a transformation like Melandru or massively reduce the cooldown on it.
As for new skills, hmm
Balthazar’s Rage: Gain fury and burn nearby foes that attack you
Hmm this is interesting, lots of friends and foes to consider.
Observed Ally: Durmand Priory/Order of Whispers. I am putting these two together as they overlap in a lot of areas and between the two they have the knowledge to undo Tyria’s most powerful enemies. The Order of Whispers was instrumental in stopping Abbadon and the Priory currently holds a potential trump card vs Jormag in the Sanguinary Blade.
Guessed Ally: The Spirits of the Wild. They are all essentially demigods capable of influencing entire species of animals and they are more than happy to take an active role in guiding and blessing the norn. Even in GW1 the human gods never interacted with their worshipers as directly as the Spirits do.
Observed enemy: Primordous, personally I find destroyers to still be the most dangerous of dragon minions across the board. Combine that with the fact that destroyers can conceivably appear anywhere at any time and Primordous becomes very very scary.
Guessed enemy: Mordremoth, if half of what has been theorized about him is accurate. He’s not only unique in his ability to corrupt sylvari but also in that his corruption can take an entirely mental form. The implications of dragon minions taking the form of mind controlled sleeper agents instead of deformed abominations is alarming to say the least.
Actually I find a lot of armor distorted on Norn females – any sort of skirt or item that rides on the hips just explodes when worn by Norn females. Swords are so oversized they drag in the dirt, and shoulder-guards swell to ridiculous size and float in near orbit around their torsos rather than fit them. Its also extremely hard to find over the knee armor for them – things that are over the knee on human females just come up to the knee on Norn in most cases… Their not-at-all clever way of making them look taller: bad tailoring.
HA! If you find norn bad for that stuff you should try making a charr! Really most norn armor is quite well fitted for both genders, in not a fan of the male’s proportions but they really have very few issues with armor details.
I completely agree with everything in this thread. GW1 had so many mysteries and stories to see through and GW2 just kind of dropped the ball on a lot of them. I mean it’s still really fun to run around the world and see what has happened to all the different landmarks and places I knew in GW1, but outside of landmarks and some scattered NPC chatter very little GW1 lore comes into play.
Hey random idea for a new living story arc, Livia returns as a Lich with the scepter of Orr in hand and is revealed to be the source of Tequatl’s new found power and leading an undead reusrgance. Imo a Risen Livia would make for a very intriguing villian as she could be a very tragic character like Kellach who still feels loyalty to Kryta but is compelled to destroy it due to Zhaitan’s corruption.
This would be like if European colonists fought to reclaim a city which was burned to the ground by Native Americans.
Native Americans (Charr and Grawl) constantly displace each other.
Colonists displace the Natives (Human and Charr)
Natives retake the land
Colonists retake the landThe fact people don’t seem the understand, in real life mainly, is that land claims are kittening stupid. Native Americans still claim that the land belonging to Americans is theirs. Okay, so their ancestor 300 years ago lived there, and now someone who has absolutley zero ties to the land wants to displace someone who has lived there their entire life?
The same parallels are in GW1 and GW2.
Charr displace Grawl, it is now Charr land. (over a period of hundreds of years)
Human displace Charr, it is now Human land. (after the charr have lived there for hundreds/thousands of years)
Charr displace Human, it is now Charr land. (after the humans have lived their for hundreds/thousands of years)
Humans wish to conquer Charr lands, after it has been Charr lands for hundreds of years. No one has any justifiable claim to land other than the person living on it, or else no one would belong anywhere with all the conquering and reclaiming of land.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly, Ascalon has been fought over for so long, changed hands enough that at this point no one has any more “ascestral” right to than anyone else. The charr currently have it and have had it for well over two centuries, for all intents and purposes it’s theirs now.
Besides, even though things have started regrowing after the searing Ascalon’s still the most messed up region of Tyria. The brand and those foefire ghosts aren’t going anywhere and they kill humans just as fast as they kill charr so why anyone would want to fight the charr over such a place is beyond me.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Elite_Cultist_armor_f.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Elite_Cabal_armor_f.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Ancient_armor_f.jpgThose are prob my top 3. I didn’t really care for the rest although I did get the EotN ones just for the statues in my HoM.
I can’t believe i forgot about the elite cabal armor! I think that ended up being my necro’s most used set by the end.
Also yes yes and yes to the ritualist armors! I absolutely loved my elite kurzick outfit and ancient mummy armor!
(edited by Riot Inducer.8964)
Is the bug that cancels out your glow intensity when using one of these kits still around? Because I would very much like to give one of my Sylvari a new style but don’t want to lose the glow :-/
Some people would like to switch specs a lot depending on the situation, reset 10 times you’re looking at 27g give or take, for $10 in gems if you use rl money to buy gems, you can reset 11 times. That’s not a lot for the gold/money.
People call it a convenience item, it should have been in the game from the start with the option to at least reset in all towns and outposts for the same price it is at the trainer, even a little more would be acceptable.
My thoughts exactly. It’s really starting to get to me just how much GW2 has turned into a cash shop game. On the fly trait resets should’ve been a feature that was shipped with the game. Did they learn nothing from GW1? They axed attribute point locking relatively quickly in the game’s life and the game became much better for it. Just attach a 10s fee or something to a reset traits button in the trait menu, gold sink still exists and everyone’s happy.
Why don’t they just put a fee on a reset button in the trait menu? It’s still a gold sink and isn’t a shameless cash shop money grab…
On the flip side I wonder if they’ll be mixed in with the random daily reward items like transmutation stones, revive orbs, etc. Because I might actually use these.
Would be nice if there was a twist that ended her, like a subordinate uses some showdown scarlet has with players just to assassinate her, kind of like roman emperors being taken down by their close ‘allies’.
That would be really neat, though I’m sure people would be angry if they didn’t get to personally kill her but meh.
Actually a thought just occured to me, it’d be pretty awesome if Canach showed up and redeemed himself by killing Scarlet. Kind of out of left field but I would really like to see Canach involved in more living story stuff, there aren’t many good anti-heroes in the game.
In my experience minions are the most reliable build for rolling over most PvE content. As they’re essentially free sustained DPS and meatsheilds. They’re certainly a lot better than they were at launch and it’s rumored they’re getting a big health buff in PvE soon so there’s that.
On the other hand power based builds that focus on wells are the most popular power based build, at least from my understanding. They have a better “burst” than minions but longer downtime so while MM is probably better for plowing through hordes of trash wells will take down tougher enemies faster.
Hybrid Power/Condtion builds have also become popular although I’m not really familiar with how they’re set up or what they use.
Weapon wise I think the most common weapon sets for MM is Axe/Focus and Dagger/Warhorn for wells.
This is just all what I’ve observed on forums and in game and I’m by no means a build expert but this is at least the basic ideas.
I think Aetherblades/Asura are more magitek.
Steam creatures are steampunk
Watchwork creatures are clockwork/clockpunk
Charr are dieselpunk
These are 4 distinct motiffs.
Can we please just start using steampunk as a catch-all for the last three? I mean is there any real deep difference between them? Most settings that use improbable steam-powered devices also have an abundance of absurdly advanced clockwork devices as well.
The charr for all their “dieselpunk” as you put it, still have gears and clockwork mechanisms sticking out anywhere they can get away with it.
Completely agreed, there’s no good reason that the fleshie can’t swim.
they might be poisonous, you know
No, animals bite sylvari all the time, but don’t become poisoned. I don’t understand, why mosquitoes and predators try to eat sylvari, but when they do it, they do not harm their health.
Idk most things that bite my sylvari tend to end up dead very quickly
How dare anet try to do a plot that’s not solved in one month. By now anet must feel like they cant win.
“Give us a story that lasts longer than just two weeks!”
“We’ll give you a villain that will stay here for few months while we develop her and tie all these different plots together”
“Man this villain again, why can’t anet give us something new that we havent seen before?”
That’s not really the complaint, it’s more along the lines of, “can we please drop this annoying villian sue and get on to stories with more interesting and better written characters?”
You know I think when it really comes down to it my main problem with scarlet is that she’s Sylvari. No I actually like the sylvari a lot but everything about scarlet’s history and abilities SCREAM asura. If she was instead a true asuran evil genius I think she’d be a lot more believable and come off a lot less “sue-ish”
That would actually be pretty cool, although I really hope that Scarlet doesn’t end up being the villian in all of them if that’s the case.
hah, I might actually get this one for my necro
I’d love to bring some more necro armor to GW2. In GW1 my necro had a full wardrobe because there were so many awesome armor styles to choose from. In GW2 my necro is still in Shadow armor as it’s the only set that feels remotely “necro-ish”. Also the profane armor didn’t translate well at all and wasn’t a terribly good set to begin with. :-/
Some of my favorites have been mentioned already, love the elite luxon and vabbian, but I still have a soft spot for classic krytan armor.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Krytan_armor_f.jpg
This would be pretty cool, if only because it would give the players the chance to kill scarlet out of the LS script once and for all!
Imo the population requirement for the fight is the main problem with it. The fight really needs to be able to scale down to a much lower minimum. The fight simply won’t be a sustainable piece of content otherwise. Once boss week ends, and new living story content sweeps away the hordes that are camping him now it’s going to be kitten near impossible to get enough people rounded up to even have a chance at fighting him.
I really do hope ANet has plans to make the fight more viable for smaller groups of people in the future. Although I don’t really expect any of them to comment on it since an ANet employee talking about any percieved “nerfs” to the fight atm would be about as smart as dumping a bag of ice into a deep fryer.
Yeah this part kind of worries me. Even if it’s a long time before other world bosses get a similar make over there’s no way that the Tequatl fight is sustainable in its current state. I mean, once the next living story comes out people will be flocking to that making the 100+ manpower requirement impossible to achieve for Teq. If they don’t change it so the fight scales down once boss week is over I seriously doubt anyone will ever kill him ever again.
Please Mad King please kill Scarlet and turn her into your minion. :P
no minion. then we are stuck whit her for ever.
Honestly I’d much rather her become the Harley Quinn to Thorn’s Joker than continue as the annoying villian sue she is currently presented as.
It makes sense to do so not only because of the extra damage form minions but the extra durability a MM has inherently. Because by going MM in the first place ensure you’ve got a crap-ton of extra vitality/toughness not to mention the minions themselves serving as meatshields.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I ended up joining up for one of the fights, hung back and did what I could with the turret defense groups. We failed horribly but since I went into it with the mindset that it didn’t matter either way it was no big deal and I actually had fun with it. Got the daily done and I am now enjoying going for the various Boss Week achievements.
(edited by Riot Inducer.8964)
I’d have to say… Weaps that look like they would be wielded by someone who doesn’t lift.
It would seem a bit silly, using smoke on a stick to suddenly swinging around a 2handed GSword, or a brick on a stick.
Every norn necro ever would disagree on this point.
