Minions can be finicky but they are the easiest and most reliable way to cut through most PvE content, at least in my experience. This is what I run as a Minion Master
I do use the axe but to be honest the focus is what supports the minions the most, you could easily go scepter or dagger main hand with it.
In general minions are rather flexible, you can get a lot out of them if you trait heavily for them but even using them alongside other utilities can make PvE life very easy. That said going full MM with the setup I have allows me to take on most group events solo and most champions can be whittled down relatively easily.
I can’t speak to the condition side of things as I’m not familiar with the finer points of such builds.

No ones going to spend them on Peaches?
Wow that’s incredibly lame, I honestly had no idea it cost that much. And no I haven’t mindlessly been clicking through dialogues the “cost” section is presented differently than any other dialogue box that deducts money so it’s very easy to miss when you’re used to the response option having a (cost) parenthetical on it.
As much as I would love them to bring back spiteful spirit style punishment abilities for necro via confusion I think I would first like us to have better access to torment given the condition was designed specifically for us yet we have about the lowest amount of it available of the classes that have it.
@CureForLiving, yap I was talking about her :P
__
@ Aaron, and Magnus is supposed to be injured, shouldn’t he be in a (field) hospital? Unless they provided him with his own medic who’s permanently on the ship which would be selfish with all the casualties coming in.
Given the council’s overall negligence in preparing LA’s defenses I’d say having a private medic wouldn’t be a stretch. Really I think all them have already earned themselves a whole bunch of Thoughtless Potions.
I like the gameplay effect the lasers create but there’s a couple of issues I have with them.
First of all the fact that they seem to prioritize lone or small groups on the edges of LA instead of bombarding zergs makes little tactical sense. The few times I’ve been in a zerg and been targeted by the lasers they are more effective but still easily avoidable due to the targeting laser and charge up noise. While it’s fun saving citizens while dodging/outrunning the laser barrage it really does feel silly that they’d waste so much artillery on a single or small group when there’s a whole army rampaging around elsewhere.
The second is the lack of exposition on where exactly these things are coming from, in the attack on LA cutscene we see the airships using nothing but conventional cannons. I actually assumed the lasers were coming from turrets mounted on the top of the drill because the airships certainly didn’t seem to have the laser cannons. Although the airships having them makes a fair bit more sense in the areas they’re able to target with them.

Tomes of Knowledge, as an alt-aholic these things are making my life much easier
@ Funkybacon: 8/10, not terribly inventive, simply the winged set, but the dye set up you have is very nice. Also for whatever reason I find the winged set hood looks much better on sylvari than anyone else.
At any rate here’s my necro’s new outfit
Just something that has occurred to me but I find it really strange that the pact isn’t more involved with the situation in LA given how big of a part they played in taking down the Molten Alliance and Toxic Alliance.
So far the Vigil has graciously housed a lot of LA services but they aren’t committing any soldiers to evacuating LA which seems strikingly against their usual M.O. The Priory seems to have a few analysts trying to piece together the bigger picture but they don’t actually seem to be involving themselves beyond the refugee camps. By contrast the “underhanded” and “untrustworthy” Order of Whispers are playing the biggest role and are both fighting by the Lionguard and seem to be responsible for saving more civilian lives than the Lionguard themselves.
Just finding it strange that the Pact hasn’t prepared a more organized response to help the Lionguard (who are seriously getting their butts kicked in there).
Most Brutal-LA Attack,Searing,Cataclysm?

Yeah no way this single-city invasion matches the world changing events of the Searing and Cataclysm.
I will say however that this invasion of LA might beat out the one at the end of the War in Kryta (GW1). Both were crazy intense but this time the invaders seem to be winning quite soundly.
I’ve only played about 4 rounds in LA the last two days but I have yet to NOT end up in an overflow so clearly there’s still a fair amount of people playing it.
Also for the necros out there Reaper’s Mark and Spectral Wall are great for knocking pursuers off of the rush escorts.
She is fighting and he is whining in Vigil Keep
Team Kiel forever
And who’s fault is it that there are even any refugees? Scarlet’s. And who’s fault is it that Lion’s Arch was destroyed almost without a fight? Kiel’s. Kiel should be put to death for every life she lost.
Nah Kiel was actually trying, it’s the rest of the council that should be paying for the supplies for the liongaurd and refugees instead of extorting from Evon.
What happened to that air defense?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Idk, you can’t really blame Evon for not ponying up and buying AA defenses for LA himself out of the goodness of his heart when any one of the council members could’ve done so themselves. If Evon’s bad for not doing more, then the rest of the council (outside of Kiel) are far worse for their negligence imo.
What happened to that air defense?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Riot Inducer.8964
Kiel was stonewalled by the rest of the council, no AA defenses ever got built. If Evon was on the council it would have been the same outcome.
I don’t think you can really blame Evon for not doing more to bolster LA’s defenses. To upgrade any defenses he’d have to go through the council and seeing as how Kiel, a member of the council, couldn’t even convince them it was a good idea, Evon probably wouldn’t even be given an audience. Plus he’s still rather bitter about the election and probably just doesn’t want much to do with the council these days.
It’s a shame Kiel is antagonizing Evon with this conscription business, despite their history they seem to be playing the part of “only sane man” in regards to the rest of the council. I think if they were both on the council LA would be a lot better off.
Yeah it’s part of the Priory PS, it’s the mission before Clawr Island. It seems like she’s upgraded her defenses since then. Good thing too, wish I had shield like that to block all the orbital strikes the invaders are laying down.
Yeah I was always more partial to Kiel but now I must say Evon is looking a lot more reasonable.
With Kiel conscripting Evon, I’m sure she means well (and probably sees that it’s the only way to get him to help the war effort without him profiting immensely), it still really comes across as a big “kitten you” from her.
this has been great. the whole map is littered with stuff to do.
If you want a zerg ball. you got it.
Small group hero stuff. you got it.
Solo roaming. to save the kids? got that too.
Loot variants are outstanding. emphy shards. AND dragonite in one place? how is this a bad thingVERY WELL DONE!
now if you will excuse me I have things to kill
Gotta agree with this, there’s tons to do and you are actively rewarded for not always being in the zerg. Splitting from the zerg into small teams makes for great fun rescuing civilians (which seriously pays off if enough people do it).
The Tengu going full quarantine zone at the wall makes total sense but I fear this might hurt relations with them, possibly setting back any plans they have for opening up the Dominion of Winds (also points to it still being a while before the Tengu become playable)
Open em! Easiest way to get spine blade ingredients, also chance at quaggan tonics (even everlasting versions) and refugee items
Honestly I don’t care what it looks like it’s a (relatively) easy way to finally get back items for all of my characters.
I love that we can get multiples, that they can be upgraded as a character levels up (assuming you keep the materials for it around). And I love that I don’t have to grind dungeons to do it.
Instead, you have to grind champ trains and/or become a TP tycoon to afford the exorbitant crafting costs…
You assume I give a kitten about getting ascended level gear, you would be wrong.
The armors themselves are quite nice, however the always blue skin is rather off putting, if it could be dyed or switched off somehow I would get one or more of these in a heartbeat.
Successfully duo’d many events with my gf over the course of several attacks. You don’t have to go with the zerg if it ain’t your thing. This event is actually pretty solo/small group friendly.
Furthermore, to reach the highest reward tier (1500 survivors) I strongly suspect that zergs will have to break into relatively small groups(10 or so people?) in order to cover the map and complete everything. No you are crazy, its 100% zerg like always… the fact that zerging gets you to only 500 survivors is just your imagination. Also the loot is terrible, I didnt get a precursor in the hour I played today.
If your definition of “good loot” is getting a precursor you must live in a world of constant disappointment and I’m sorry for you.
I was part of an overflow earlier that managed 2K citizens and even though my friends and I weren’t in a zerg for most of it I got nearly three times the amount of loot as the one I spent entirely in a zerg that only got 400 citizens.
Honestly I don’t care what it looks like it’s a (relatively) easy way to finally get back items for all of my characters.
I love that we can get multiples, that they can be upgraded as a character levels up (assuming you keep the materials for it around). And I love that I don’t have to grind dungeons to do it.
The "Intelligent" Captain's Council

I am somehow reminded of Mass Effect and trying to convince the Council about the Reapers over and over.
Ah yes, “Scarlet” we have dismissed that claim.

Wow looking at that map made me realize if Orr rising sunk the battle Isles then Istan must’ve gotten hammered as well. Wonder if it’s above water these days?
Idk, honestly I think Canach would be a pretty good addition to the LS hero lineup, he’d be a good counterbalance to the bubbly goody-goody types. Canach’s a guy who means well but can be very ruthless, it’d be nice to have a hero who isn’t lawful-good all the time.
Getting the SAME mini on every character is a bit silly imo, really should have just given a random series 1 mini like GW1.
Also Guild Wars armor wasn’t that great. Boob-plate is never good armor.
You must have trouble finding armor in 99% of fantasy games then. And boob-plate or no there was a lot more variety in styles in GW1 armor. Seriously compare medium armor to GW1 ranger/assassin armor.
Anyways on topic, I really want to see them take some time and add a lot of the little features and things they were promising at launch. Namely things like town clothes shops in game where you can buy the majority of outfits that NPCs wear. Finally opening up all the activities that are already half-implemented (shooting range, bar brawl, polymock, etc).
Why do people think LA will be rebuilt?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Riot Inducer.8964
I hope the current Lion’s Arch gets demolished so brutally that it won’t be recognizable.
The whole area just reeks of poverty.
Then we can rebuild it to something more aesthetically pleasing and modern.
It could keep the same sort of aesthetics for all I care I just want it to be built up to be the actual CITY it was always pitched as. I mean outside of the bank/trade hub area there’s next to nothing. Something like four bars and a dozen houses, that’s not a city that’s a village at best.
Where the new hub should have been...
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Riot Inducer.8964
Vigil keep makes the most sense lore and gameplay wise.
How, in either sense? It is a military keep, and while they may be able to support some refugee population outside the walls, it is in no way adequate to assume the role of a major player hub and trade center.
Gameplay? Go look how big it is, and get back to me. Unless the plan to put all of this in Gendarran zone/external keep.
It makes no sense at all. It is just “convenient”.
Yeah, I just went and looked at the keep and there’s a lot more to that building than we we have been inside of, there’s also a lot more of the building than we see from the front going by how far it extends into the hills on the map. All it will take is opening a new door to the other areas of the keep and you’ve got a nice new big interior space for all your hub needs.
It makes perfect sense and is in fact quite convenient.

Where does Scarlet get her resources?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Riot Inducer.8964
How did the Pact get all those resources to build hundreds of massive airships, tanks, artillery and bases?
Are you seriously comparing one individual to the combined political, logistical, and military efforts of three paramilitary organizations backed by the land’s five mightiest nations?
Exactly, also to the best of my knowledge the Pact never suffered crippling losses of resources on the scale that scarlet has. I mean to tally it we’ve destroyed the molten alliance factory/bases, the aetherblade airship bases and leadership (twice if you count the aetherpath in TA), and taken down the nightmare tower/toxic alliance and it’s offshoots.
While Scarlet is more concerned with the technological and scientific advances gained from these facilities than the military forces, by all rights she should be just about out of organic forces to throw around.
I don’t even know how to address the steam/clockwork creatures, she might have factories for them somewhere but even before scarlet they just kind of appeared.
I still think Lion's Arch isn't the target.
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Riot Inducer.8964
LA is clearly not the target, but a obstacle in Scarlet’s way. For me the target is the Ley Lines or a source of magic under LA from which the magic get to the ley lines.
There is already an hypothesis about Mordremoth being the 6th Elder Dragon, a Jungle Dragon and that Sylvari could be Mordremoth’s minions. What if Mordremoth use a different strategy than the other Elder Dragon. Most of them reach a place and start growing an army of minons. Zhaitan was building his army at Orr, Primordius underground, Jormag in the North, Kralkatorrik in the Crystal Desert and Deep Sea Dragon in the sea.
But what if Mordremoth play it more subtle. We already know that sylvari, despite being a young race, saw their number growth really fast. Mordremoth could be growing his army right in front of the World without any hints of treat like the other Dragon do, so nobody will interfere with his plans. Just waiting the right moment to awake and take control of his minions who are free for now. Mordremoth could be the voice that push Scarlet to act, to attack LA and reach under the city where maybe Mordremoth is. Scarlet would be the first controlled minons and she’s only partially controlled since Mordremoth would be still asleep with weak power.
Actually, thinking about it that way makes even more sense. All the bits kind of fit into place.
Mordremoth is the Jungle Dragon. The Pale Tree is a champion of the Dragon. The Sylvari are it’s minions. Ventari corrupted the Pale Tree as a seed. Somehow he set the Pale Tree against Mordremoth and as a result she has been actively nurturing and blocking her children, his minions, from his influence. Some Sylvari are less influenced than others. Those Sylvari fall to Nightmare, from which there is no return. Nightmare court, whether they know it or not, are under the influence of Mordremoth, but they aren’t controlled by him because they still have the block that the Pale Tree imposed on them.
Scarlet removed the block. As a result she can be actively influenced by Mordremoth, just like all Dragon minions to their master. She’s still trying to resist though, because Sylvari are sentient, unlike most minions. Who knows how well she’s doing. While she is actively trying to kill Mordemoth, she could just as well unleash him on the world.
I’m pretty sure that the sylvari/pale tree are not dragon minions as one of the sylvari personal stories involves a sylvari from another tree that has neither a dream nor nightmare thus disproving that nightmare is the "natural" state of sylvari. This plus the consistent presentation that once a sylvari turns to nightmare it is irreversible points to the nightmare itself being dragon corruption rather than a natural state being suppressed by the dream.
Yes, yes, and yes. And I hope we get to rebuild even BIGGER Lion’s Arch, because this isn’t a city, this is a village. It’s the size of a bigger town square. That was always my problem with this place, being too small.
Yeah, I really do hope when Lion’s Arch is rebuilt it’ll be into the grand city it was always described as. LA was immensely disappointing when I saw it in game after reading about it in the books and all the descriptions of it.
It was described as a bustling trade metropolis and while the game does have fairly impressive trade centers/markets outside of that is has, what, four bars and maybe a dozen houses?
I would like to see some buildable dolyak carts that can be bought in keeps and built with supplies.
They should be able to transport players and supplies with the speed of a player with constant swiftness.
It wouldn’t work in the rough terrain of EotM but it would give an extra layer of tactics to WvW that I would find interesting.
It would help low pop servers to achieve the constant swiftness and supply transport that high pop servers can do with just players. High pop servers wouldn’t get any advantage from it on the other hand.
Yeah, doesn’t have to be mounts just a new class of things to build with supply to aid mobility.
Yes please! I use the Charrzooka on my charr engineer and the 180 sec cooldown is just right, I can use it in big fights and it’ll almost always be ready again by the next one. If norn transforms were closer to that cooldown I’d use them a lot more.
Imo it’d be a bit too close-to-home for people to be fighting side by side with someone raising zombies… while your main enemy is a dragon that also raises zombies.
Quite true, from a gameplay perspective as well it would likely get a bit too confusing when fighting risen if your minions looked exactly the same.
I do have to wonder though, based on how minions worked in GW1/lore-wise. Wouldn’t the mutation/assembly of minions from corpses be a bit more of a disturbing event to witness than making a corpse stand back up?
I dunno, after the scene at the beach in Lion’s Arch I had the impression that Rytlock doesn’t even want her in the Warband and gives her pretty much impossible tasks to get rid of her. Only that it doesn’t work and she actually succeeds.
That’s the impression I got when he sent her to solo Tequatl.
Given what we do know about Rytlock I think it’s quite possible he gets a kick out of her blind admiration of him, hence the absurd tasks that most would call him out on, but she follows out anyways.
It is also possible that he’s sending her on these insane quests due to his accomplishments in Destiny’s Edge. I mean if you want to join up with someone who’s killed several dragon champions they’ll probably want you to prove you can keep up in such situations, especially when that someone is Rytlock Brimstone.
Really it’s hard to gauge what exactly Rytlock’s opinion of Rox is given how little we see them interact.
The Pact is also the ultimate expression of order and stability in all of Tyria. The Captain’s Council and its activities will be seen as illegal and an unstable element within the Krytan region. The financial power it had will mostly vanish into nothing since all its assets will be seen as ‘spoils of crime’ and thus be distributed in equal parts to all the five major races.
All that will remain of its financial power will be from its function as the main port of both Kryta and Tyria as a whole. The authority of the Krytan crown legally expends to include Lion’s Arch. The occupation of Lion’s Arch by the Captain’s Council actual has no basis in Law. Who gave the Council its authority? It took it.
It took it because at that time Kryta and its economy was destroyed by the Cataclysm that took Orr. A disaster is not a legal basis for taking ownership of crown land.
Except that Lion’s Arch is in fact the central trading hub of all of Tyria, all races minor and major do business there. Any one race or outside nation seizing control of LA would earn themselves a lot of enemies. And in regards to trade and foreign relations it’d be shooting themselves in the foot.
Then there’s also the Liongaurd forts scattered throughout Kryta not to mention the numerous Pirate groups the Lionguard was keeping in check. Kryta had bandit problems before but if the Liongaurd were no longer keeping roads clear or worse started actively aiding the bandits/pirates Kryta would be torn apart from the inside. With insurgents everywhere and no frontlines for the seraph it wouldn’t go well for anywhere outside of Divinity’s Reach.
And all that’s even assuming the Seraph would even have the strength to consider marching on LA after their war with the centaurs.
Really, while Kryta might have historical claim to LA in the current state of affairs it would both be far to much trouble and just generally monumentally stupid for Kryta to try and claim LA.
Lot of rose colored glasses for GW1 in this thread. I think it’s very important to note that GW1 AI had a LOT fewer factors to worry about in combat than GW2 AI.
GW1 having no z-axis meant pathfinding was easy and binary, either you can walk there or you can’t, no jumping, no ledges, just walking. They also didn’t have to deal with all the movement affecting abilities, no knockbacks, leaps, dodges or any of that jazz, just knockdown and snares. Despite there being mechanics that favored tactical positioning, such as bows gaining range/damage at higher elevations archers never ever sought out high ground, they also never kited or actively tried any kind of maneuvering unless they were scripted to do so in a very specific area.
Really all they ever had to do was spam their abilities in a somewhat logical order, and that they could do rather well, when given the chance anyways. The majority of PvE monsters didn’t even have full skill bars until Nightfall and they only ever had well thought out builds in Eye of the North & GW Beyond.
Sure GW1 AI was great for GW1 but it wasn’t exactly ever a masterstroke of AI design.
Eh, it’s all doom and gloom here on the forums but I am still rather enjoying the game. I take breaks when I get bored but I don’t really blame the game or anything the dev team has done.
I would however like to see them take some time and release a big update of nothing but quality of life features and things that were promised to be added “later”. Things like more guild features (halls, capes etc.), making lots of npc outfits available as town clothes, and finishing all those mini-games/activities that are already set up to be in game (I want polymock kitten!).
Every screenshot of this bug I’ve seen the character looks like the pupil/iris size has been increased. Just a theory but I bet you can avoid this bug by simply either leaving the pupil/iris size at default or making them smaller.
there will be no build variation as long as there is transmutation stones.
What in the world do transmutation stones have to do with build variety?
I do agree that some events repeat too fast, in a lot of places it’s very easy to finish an event and by the time you’ve managed your inventory and are ready to move on the event is starting again. A lot of times I’ve gotten stuck defending an outpost 3 or more times in a row just because I don’t move out of there fast enough.
Yeah back before launch camouflage was one of the skills I was most looking forward to trying on the ranger. I would very much like to see that return as a full skill.
well doesnt realy mather what it is named after it needs to be added to pve for the sake of charr female spellcaster behing fashionable
Not just female charr, that set would be a wonderful addition to any necromancer’s wardrobe!
Yeah I don’t get the gripes about not being alt friendly either. Especially when it’s complaints about leveling. I can only assume the people that find leveling alts on GW2 to be too time consuming/tedious have never played another MMO. GW2 is both far faster and offers far more options for leveling than anything else I’ve ever played.
