Thanks for giving the moderators the potential to lock this thread due to name calling and off topic posts.

Vayne stated something which is most likely true and relevant to this thread. There is no need speculating whether or not he has three monitors or if he is able to post and play two more games at the same time.

I rarely read PC Gamer online, but I read the magazine for around 10 years and I found it to be mostly spot on for my personal taste in regards to games.

They should tell PC Gamer that they have to go with the time. Metrics and extensive tests proved that this is what “we” want. To all our surprise, even Anet’s, but there you have it.

Ok, seriously, I have no problem to offer new players, especially new players to computer games, a proper tutorial, the times of nice game manuals that you could peruse at your leisure are gone. But honestly, the player should be able to turn the tutorial off.

I don’t know if any TP NPC was removed, but in order to sell (on the TP) you don’t need them – you can sell your stuff right out of your inventory. You only need them to pick up your money or items you bought.

There were times in the story your character would be required to act. Save this person. Save the whatever. Then you find, oh wait…I’m underleveled. I can’t save that person.

I"m literally going to have to stop saving this person, go help a farmer or whatever, level up and THEN go help this person. That to me was far more immersion breaking than doing the entire story segment at one time.

I understand what you are saying, for some this is immersion breaking and that is ok. I still haven’t seen many complaints “here” – but that is not the point, no need to quantify this.

The point is if that is what they wanted to fix, then they could have tweaked the level experience to close these gaps.

No excuse about difficulty and the like please – I’m not sure that was balanced really, from what I hear the PS is much easier and faster now, probably because you are over level.

I never had this issue, I would play and move along, exploring and doing things on the way to the next part of the story.

To my best knowledge I did not see many complaints here about needing the story to be in chunks.

My gut feeling simply says – this is artifical.

Edit: I said this before, if this was supposed to be a “tutorial” kind of easing in thing they could simply allow us to turn it off, same as the new map pointer helpers.

They said that they stay in the collectibles until you take them out, at that point there is no return for the mini. Is this not how it works?

Before, when you take them out, you take out one at a time. Now, you have to take out the entire stack to take out even one, so if you had a couple you’d be saving to sell, you have to find space elsewhere for them until you sell them all.

I see, thanks.

Maxwell, I just ran a test alt through the human starter quest, and yes…that appears to be true. Also, you open weapon skills by level, rather than by using weapons, so that at the end of the human starter intro, you still only have a single weapon skill.

You no longer get to choose between 3 items at the end of the quest, Anet gives you a replacement weapon for whatever one hander you start with, so instead of picking a weapon for second hand, you get a new crappy mace, or whatever your profession’s weapon is.

Personal story stops after the starter quest. Rumor has it that it returns at 10, but I can’t verify that.

Nodes were unavailable to me at lvl 2 after finishing the starter quest. POIs were locked. That easy skill point over in the norn starter area is also locked. I got annoyed and quit before checking the vista, but it’s my understanding those are locked until 10.

I’m starting the search for a new game that doesn’t assume the user base are too stupid to play it.

Sounds silly. Like as in hey, we heard you have fun just running around so we make you run around some more. How would you level until 10 now? Do you get a super-xp-boost from hearts and kills?

Yeah, those games will die very fast anyways, way too many skills.

Ok, ok, questionable humour aside – @ ipan: What do you think has changed in terms of direction? For the most part this is exactly what I was expecting in terms of direction (not the details obviously).

In case you don’t play since release or didn’t see any pre release material:
The game was heavily marketed towards hardcore gamers. Dungeons were supposed to take a lot of time and skill. The even want so far as to claim they were so hard, that repair cost was considered a major gold sink.
The combat was marketed to be of the dark souls type (=heavy emphasis on dodges, timed attacks and hard hitting, yet telegraphed enemy blows).

What they did was a total 180.

I am playing since release and I saw pre-release material. It came across to me as a very casual game that I would not have to run dungeons and the like etc for in order to obtain BIS gear (this has changed a tad but for the purpose here it’s old news) and nothing would be gated for me. I expected a bit more from the personal housing instance but that’s about it.

You have an emphasis on dodges, hard hitting bosses and telegraphs. Ok, I mostly don’t see them in open world and the zerg makes dodging often irrelevant and of course it it possible to … utilize game mechanics to circumvent things … but for many players I would say this is still a reality?

This feature patch is sort of similar to the last one, so I don’t see what majorly changed in direction since then.

Note, I’m not saying to improve dungeons etc, I understand disappointment for things that not happened.

I can imagine the headache for the company running the game due to inappropriate “designs”, offensive symbols etc, hehe.

Edit: But – on that subject – I believe Anet ran some contests in the past for capes (?), that I would definitely like to see, because so many people come up with so much awesome stuff. Every half a year one contest for weapons, one for armour – hey maybe even one for an outfit. Bam, customers engaged and entertained.

This is not meant negatively, I’m happy for those who like said content, I won’t feel compelled or be angry because I will never “finish” one of those sets.

If it makes some people buy more keys then good for Anet. Otherwise I have to say that I find the concept of “complete a set of store bought random chest skins” a tad off putting to say it mildly. I paid 60g for one of those skins recently, that was basically my foxfire clusters that I sold (roundabout) – otherwise I wouldn’t have paid that either, it’s sort of a principle thing for me.

Stealing instances using the LFG tool, or booting people for no reason (or to give your buddy the rewards for no work) at the end of a run are bannable offenses and should be reported.

You are probably right, sounds like “stealing” would fit more into your scenario.

I’m not sure you’re understanding why I am saying what I’ve said.

If I get kicked from the party I started, halfway or whatever through an instance, I lose my progress and must start again. I don’t get to go into fractals and start where I left off. I have to start an entirely new instance. (…)

“(…)If everyone leaves an instance, it will close, but you don’t have to worry about one person leaving your party and having to restart your dungeon!(…)”

Maybe I am missing something or interpreting it wrong(?). To me this sounds that your progress will not be lost? Or was it said somewhere explicitly that if you get kicked all progress is lost? Could be of course.

Edit: Actually the sentence prior mentions either leaving or being kicked.

In general I don’t DC for longer than 10 minutes (which will kick me from party automatically and destroy the instance) and it will be much more risky to pug. It takes 10 minutes of DCing to lose progress (and since I never let anyone else open when I pug) I’ve never been kicked, never had my progress lost since I started doing this.

I can never solo pug again for this reason. So I will have to have at least one friend available for a fractal, else I cannot protect my time and therefore will not run.

Didn’t know about the 10 minute rule. I’m sorry to hear you feeling that way. From what I’ve read on these forums you seem to like to help newer players.

Regardless, the way I see it you (you as in in general) will not lose your progress either way – so even if some people puging try to abuse the situation – with the risk of being reported if it comes to potential abuse – you could still fill your group up again and finish the dungeon. I’m sure there will be some people happy about having a shorter dungeon run.

I’ve only been in fractals 3-4 times with my guild, so I’m not sure if that would be different there or if the same synergies apply.

Are you not happy that in case you would disconnect (as the “instance owner”) the dungeon is not lost now?

I’m sure, as they said that they don’t want this to happen, that they will keep an eye on it so people don’t make five dungeon out of one, splitting at the end.

That would be a grand idea, if you want the calculative abilities of the player base degenerate to a degree that they cant play guild wars anymore when they misplaced their phone charger.

Haha, oh I definitely agree with you here on a certain level. However we might as well get rid of the 5%, 10% and the display of the total in order to promote “math”.

At the end of the day I would personally care more about the amount of money I will get for a successful transfer then worrying about what “price” a potential buyer will see. Specifically in regards to how the TP works, I’m not going to make a $99.99 price.

No, I don’t know why kids in grade six already need a calculator and yes, I’ve heard of other kids running around with smart phones at that age already. To each his own, I tell my kids they don’t need that stuff (at that age for sure).

Please Stop Destroying Everything

Just a question here because I am curious. The idea of the Living World is that there is a storyline that you take part in, that you are involved in events that shape Tyria in permanent ways—how would you all convey the sense of progression and change without also making changes to the landscape? I see a couple of comments regarding creating things, not simply destroying. Do you all have any other ideas?

Just a thought in regards to Kessex Hills, the Tower of Nightmares episode was almost a year ago now. Ask yourself, if you would live there, what would you do? Of course I don’t know how much work it would be from a development standpoint, but in my little bubble the DEs in those zones should change to reflect what is happening. Start cleaning up the place, build new. If there are new dangers you might need a new outpost/watchtower. Or the people there had it, leave a place which falls to ruins over time, unless the Quaggans move in, but maybe because of that a town further to the west grows. Over the course of a few months the picture changes.

Thinking about LA, I would not want to see the town rebuild as it was before. Often destruction is used to improve, build better, prettier etc.

Of course a lot of this then again starts to sound like “temporary” content.

The fees should go in between the unit price and the total, replace the total price with total price after costs – TPAC.

Edit: Oh, I guess I haven’t said this yet – I like the overhaul otherwise very much.

“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Rouven: are you asking OP? I would say once you reach 300% MF, you’re almost always better off selling the ecto than salvaging it into dust. You can always make a profit buying rares and salvaging into ecto. You can also make a profit buying and salvaging select blues and greens.

No, I was asking in general and more in regards to the potential higher income to offset the initial costs.

If you want to play a different character with the (exact) same name, this is still possible without deleting the character. Only slightly more expensive.

- Buy a Name Change Contracts from the Gemstore.
- Use the first Name Change Contract to change your main character’s name to something else. (For example, change “ABCD” to “ABCD the Elder”)
- Create a new character, and give it the name you prefer. It will remain reserved for your account for 24 hours.

Solid advice, thumbs up.

The now removed personality options could have been used for something like that to a degree. I don’t see this happening anytime soon.

Good News Everybody!

Or at least somewhat, you could have a look at a very similar item, but it’s not cheap cheap. Try it in the preview maybe and see if you like it.
