“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
@ Jia
Why would this be the case? Don’t get me wrong, I’m just trying to understand why there seems to be the notion that this is about supply/demand etc.
Gems are to be bought via real cash and they represent a certain value. If the majority of players have 100G each in their wallets it only makes sense to adjust the price up, because otherwise they could afford everything available in the store for in-game gold.
Thus it only seems logical to me that the system will monitor available in-game cash in circulation, even if it’s a simple Totalgold/Players calculation.
Interesting! I’m usually not a big fan of these restrictions. Not that they don’t make sense, but since (per wiki) the day lasts 80 min and night 40 min I would not want to wait an hour for it to start.
Maybe someone knows when the cycle starts, that could be helpful.
I’m not sure there are events that only trigger at a certain time? That said as far from what I know there is only the real time clock, but not an in-game time per se.
Why would that be? I would rather go with the assumption that the more gold is on the market that could potentially be spent on gems the higher the price will get. Perhaps coupled with the amount of gems actually purchased with real money.
@Rouven: A guildy of me had the same problem, she transmuted her fire gem (from char creation) and then said it vanished and is invisible now. She was pretty sad about it
I don’t know if you can re-transmute gem store outfits. I hope so, because I’m considering getting one of them and would want to make sure I can reuse it.
So if anyone knows for sure, would be nice to get an answer.
Thanks Jaince, nice to know. The fire gem was still invisible when I logged in again so I filed a bug report – funny enough it’s showing in the character selection. I’m sure it will be fixed eventually.
I just transmuted something (for the first time) yesterday.
First it showed the look of the other item that I only used the stats from, after logging in again it showed nothing anymore (fire gem head slot from elementalist). I’ll see if it persists if I log in tonight – perhaps it’s simply a bug atm.
Alright sir, I assume you haven’t seen the reddit post, so I will link it here. Respond back when you have read it and tell me what you think, maybe it will open your eyes, just a little. Oh and try not to get mad.
Love it.

Um, not sure if that helps – but right in the sell window you can hover over the item and the tooltip will tell you the vendor price.
So you don’t need to go out of the window, run to a vendor etc. and come back.
I do believe I read this is something they are working on though.
I believe you are talking about this

Short answer – just changes some NPC dialogues.
I like those little things – and there are quite a few. Thanks for sharing!
Could not tell from this map that it was square (the the one who had the GW1 map as comparison).

Personally I know what you guys mean, I am not phased by it much though. Sometimes it makes it even a bit easier to figure out which corner you haven’t been to yet (on a first glance basis, obviously it’s not all too hard to tell in any case).
I’m not really sure if that is intended?
IIRC the only thing you can buy vs real money in Eve is the pilot license, aka monthly sub. So if you have enough in-game currency you are basically playing free.
I don’t really think that is the same deal here. Three scenarios:
People can acquire gems only through playing (converting gold).
Buy gems for upgrades/fluff directly for cash.
Buy gems to convert to gold (don’t want to farm things etc).
What would the benefit for A-net be to have people speculate with gems?
By them controlling the gem price they keep the inflation in check (or at least don’t have it spilling over to “real” cash), so from my point of view the only controlling feature should be the gold in circulation?
Do you still have room to create a new character? If so the solution I’ve seen thus far is to transmute the item and then give it to your char in question. Never tried it myself.
Hope that helps.
@Rouven – trust me, both i do for that reason, especially those coins i get, what are they for? i do not know?
High level crafting at the mystic forge in lion’s arch.

Vendor the Heavy stuff, you can get all the ore you’ll ever need from mining it by hand, and with the cash you get from vendoring the Heavy Armor, you can buy more of it off the TP than you’d get for salvaging it yourself. The same goes for weapons (you can mine ore and chop lumber just fine, and all of it is cheap as hell).

Lot’s of good stuff. Perhaps make an exception for copper, lot’s of items in that bracket sell only for ~15c – the copper itself should be worth more atm (plus sometimes you get two).
Maybe more for the long run:
- complete the maps – little reward (crafting mats plus some silver) here and should come natural
- try to complete your daily achievement – I’m keeping those mystic coins for now
Have fun.
At least – correct me if I’m wrong – all characters are linked to the same account – so the scammer can’t hide behind a different character later – right?
Good luck getting your gold back.

So in a nutshell from my perspective:
Never match the highest buyer if you are selling and never just buy for the lowest price but make your own offer.”I dont think this is realistic. As a buyer, i definitely want to get whatever it is i want to buy at the LOWEST price, no matter what. There’s no benefit in buying higher…you’re not going to make a dent in the market if you do. It’s only normal that you’d want to spend the least to buy something, like IRL.

I’m talking about the, let me call it “quick-sell” or “quick-buy” option. You would not believe how many people are selling their goods at 1c over vendor price because there is the “meet highest buyer” option in place.
I enter a buy order (at 1c over) and the goods just come in. Then I turn around and sell it higher – the people wanting this item “now” then buy it from me.
Not realizing if they
a) put it up for a higher price when selling they will get more money for it (thus far stuff moves rather quickly as well)
b) they can just put their own offer in if they want to buy something and don’t have to pay the higher price.
So – to what you mention up there – you want the lowest price when you are buying – correct – now don’t just buy it from what is offered – make your own offer.
I made the same mistake in the beginning, blissfully unaware selling my good out of my pocket – I did not get the best price for them.
Yesterday I needed jute scrap – I did not just buy it, I made my own offer and not even half an hour later my order was filled – for a better price.
Sorry if that wasn’t clear.
Edit: Once everyone understands this, prices will normalize for the most part. At least that’s what I believe.
I would love to know that as well.
I keep seeing this “5% listing fee, 10% sales tax” figure quoted. Are these numbers that ANet published or released somewhere, or is this something that a player came up with?
According to their wiki, yes.
I think the most basic thing to realize is the difference between
“meet the highest buyer” and “match lowest seller”.
So in a nutshell from my perspective:
Never match the highest buyer if you are selling and never just buy for the lowest price but make your own offer.
I know ferocity is supposed to raise your attack power, I forget what the other two were supposed to raise. As for me, i just pick whatever answer I think will get me the best result.
Really? I was under the same impression that it would only change some dialogue options.
According to the wiki some achievements are related to this – but otherwise … ?
