“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
(…)
Think about it, if they raise the drop rate of Lodestones on those Earth Elementals, a lot of people will be going to your little farm, you will get less kills per hour, and on top of that the price of Lodestones will drop.
(…)
Sounds good to me.
All right, got one more, just learned this word (english being my second language).
What do you call a charr’s basement?
A charrnel.
(charnel: A vault or building where corpses or bones are deposited)
and if i wanted to preview how the dye looks when i dye my whole armor with it, then I would have to buy 4 of them….because you cant peview a full armor preview with only 1 single abyss die, you need 4….
Have you tried dragging the dye into the other colour preview slots?
Some profession quotes do depend on species – at least for elementalists. Charr do have some different quotes for fire (immolate!), air (the winds obey me!), and earth (I summon the power of our land!). Water just happens to not be as unique for charr.
I do agree some charr quotes need to be worked on, one example being the male charr warrior’s “fear me”, which is really weak.
I don’t recall the “immolate” but the other two sound like my human ele.
Edit: I don’t play the same profession on different characters – just from reading or some youtube videos I thought it was pretty much the same. If there really are some different ones, could it be only very few? The charr voice acting definitely has a different timbre – I personally actually like it, not as squeaky.
(edited by Rouven.7409)
What do you call a charr wearing a top hat?
Charrlie Charrplin.
Pretty sure those are profession “quotes” and they have nothing to do with the species.
Duck for some low flying jokes.
What do you call a charr that left the bunny alive?
Charrming.
What do you call a band of charr that lends their claws for a good battle?
A Charrity.
Edit: All right, one more upon popular demand.
100 meter sprint Charr Olympics, the Athletes are getting ready, the countdown begins:
Ready, Set, Charrge!

“Imbeciles!”
Oops, message not long enough, but I really think that captures it.
I can’t answer questions about my specific feelings about individual item prices here.
Can you say how happy you are with the functionality and presentation of the TP (in game) – either in general or in regards to certain aspects perhaps?
Is this looked at as well when analysing issues like “there is too much of item XYZ”?
Colin, can you comment on the profession gear boxes that will be available? At that cost (displayed atm) I will assume it’s more of a cosmetic reward. Will those be unique skins?
Rofl – I want the sword and that “emote” in game, hehe.
This was, as promised, a general outlook on what is to come. More specifics will follow in for each of the updates themselves.
Sounds very promising, looking forward to it.
P.S. The link to Isaiah’s blog is missing.
I am glad to have watched it! Totally love the cuts around your character, very well executed and nicely put to the song.
One small thing, if I may bring this to your attention – around 3:48 – not sure if you wanted to show the character sheathing the weapons while approaching the dragon.
Looking forward to more
Haven’t bought a single gem in my life. Have only tried to play the TP once (and lost money off of it)
Full exotics/ascended gear including an ascended back I spent about 40 gold on, and a triforge pendant that cost me about 85 gold.
You just have to actually play the game and not sit in lions arch alt tabbed to the official forums.
You are doing fractals, no real surprise here, but yes, the person you quoted forgot about that part. Nevertheless all the dungeon crawling doesn’t get you even close to what the person you quoted referred to.
Those perhaps?
Ceremonial Sabre (1H), Ceremonial Scimitar (2H)?
Evening Wine should be more in the dark purple range (moving towards the red spectrum).
This might help you a bit – you will be able to tell in what direction it goes and determine how the colours become darker. At least approximately as there is typically one dye that has the actual colour name in it in the range.
The colours change according to what material (of armour) they are used on. Sorry, can’t really answer the specific questions without being in the game and having the dyes myself.
Edit: Should say thanks to Boojum who created this chart!

I would rather have some sort of a story line (then through gems). Imagine a little asura running up to you. “You imbecile might just have enough intelligence to manage this …”
The charr dance definitely displays more boasting then the norn dance.
Plus each order could have a dance. Something derwish perhaps for the priory, acrobatic for the whisperers…
Anyone asking about the source, the OP might be referring to this, in which the statement is paraphrased as supply and demand being out of sync and them doing adjustments every day.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/john-smith-on-the-state-of-the-guild-wars-2-economy/
This is very far from the truth.
Even more so inside of MMOs where there is complete data.I’ll bite. Do you have a good sense of the percentage of people interested in playing a heroic adventure game that are being driven out of the playerbase by occasional contact with a highly predatory market simulator that is little more than semi-consenual PvP in the path to achieving endgame cosmetic goals?
Could you describe in terms well enough to base a company’s finacial well being on the differences between appealing to a rational actor in an economic model and appealing any substantial segment of the MMO playing audience, an audience I’ll mention that is often specifically looking for a little escapism from a strangely similar system that has served them so well they are dinking around in a game instead of vacationing somewhere in the real world.
The numbers available are solid, but they are driving the actions of people in decisions that range far outside their next buy or sell order. Sometimes I think the broader context of GW2 gets lost when defending the efficiencies of this particular sub-system within it
.
Hopefully someone is able to see the bigger picture.
There will be a blog post in around week or so that summarizes the high level plan for the first 6 months of 2013 for Gw2.
Then each of the individual releases for January, February, etc. will have their own release pages on our website, as well as blog posts describing specific important new features where appropriate.
More info coming in about a week once it’s all edited and localized!
Thanks Colin. Can I ask if there might be more spotlights like these?

Very much enjoyed those.
I love how John comes into the thread and does not even acknowledge the OP
To be fair he probably can’t. That’s why all we hear is about theory crafting and nothing meaningful about the actual game economy and the mechanics/dynamics there.
I would love to know how happy he/Anet is with the model and if it played out the way they thought it would. But it’s most likely the best to actually not say anything about it from a developers perspective. That is always reserved for the pre-release phase.
One could wonder why the comparison to the real world USA 2007 was done in the first place. Well because it looked good and there was no need to question it. Any new statistic coming out now will be questioned – which is the most important thing looking at any statistic really.
I don’t like it and I’m disappointed because think it goes against what I perceived to be the spirit of this game, but I made my peace with it for now.
It goes into the big secret BLTC vault, from there it is stolen by skritt, krait and the occasional bandit or even thief. One of us then slay’s said skritt (etc) and we are happy about the loot. Sometimes the thieves bought themselves stuff, that’s when the stuff drops. And so goes the cycle.
According to the wiki only the highest value counts in regards to swiftness. Never tried it myself though.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Effect_stacking
Edit: Actually I think I misunderstood that…
My bet would be an inside joke from the developers – something left over from the time they designed the city.
I’m sure Evon Gnashblade can do better, he’s just warming up. The next swing with the Greatsword will cut reaaaaallly deep!
The Pirate Costume is a repeat iirc.
I definitely don’t hear anything (from GW2) when the game is in the background.
Edit: If you google this you can find a few things, not sure if this is exactly the same. Hope it helps.

no, it would fail because 10% magically disappeared. 60% + 30% = 90%. You sure, you wanna start a “company”?
He meant dividing the profits equally.
Nice idea but I would say this can only work with people you really know. Plus there is not much incentive here, everyone can learn every craft and pretty much every recipe and very much farm everything equally.

A moneysack
What official game forum does not have these rules? They seem to be pretty standard.
One of the main reason is likely that such “discussions” are rarely constructive and end ugly.
You can PM Anet or send them an email to appeal or discuss problems.
There is a sale? How do you know? How do I NOT know?

Scroll down and it’s the first news item.
I guess people usually just have the forums bookmarked, and don’t go to the front page and check the news very often.
Cheers.
Nah, if you check the link I posted above it’s slightly different than the current one. I don’t have it bookmarked and the site did not update for me at that point (now it’s there of course and prob at the time you posted). But heh, not against learning something new!
For some reason the “News” page does not update for me, but someone had posted the link on reddit

Gold is not that hard to come by. One fractal run in particular stands out in memory because it netted me FOUR gold. In ONE run. I’ve only gotten to FotM level 19, so it’s not like I’m getting some crazy level 40 drops or anything.
Where those 4g in your pocket after you sold vendor trash – or after selling items from the dungeon on the TP?
Other than buying a gem card for real cash and then mailing the winner the code – don’t think so.
It all comes down to me defending my 1 copper undercut tactics, and they call me a troll. Then everyone started talking about how 1 copper undercuts are only ok in certain situations, but it shouldn’t be allowed in others.
There will never be a consensus on certain topics. I wouldn’t worry about it.
People seem to misunderstand my thread. Allow me to clarify. I have no problem with 1 copper undercuts. Because of this, jealous people rage at me, claiming that I don’t understand their feelings. I’m merely trying to offer an olive branch, a way to compromise so that all the angry people stop hating me for playing the game.
There are those who are trying to convince everyone that 1 copper is valued differently than 1 copper. To me, it doesn’t make sense, as if they’re saying their coin is better than mine, when we all have the same thing. Since I can’t understand this concept, I figured we can form a collective Union, and agree where we can be agreeable.
How exactly do they rage at you? Is there a new label that I missed saying “sold by smooth penguin”?
Here an overview for different sources (for magic find)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_find
This is the item from the store that you were asking about
Funky, very nice. Like how you tune the speed of the movements. Makes you wish there where different dances per race.
Would love to see more, thanks.
Should be 84 per stack, so if it runs through then yes, if it’s cleansed at some point then no. I’m not sure exactly how the stacks work together with the duration myself, the wiki says each stack lasts 1 second, I would assume it should be 5s/3 duration for each stack.

Perhaps you can find something more specific in the Ranger forum. Your combat log should show the actual value?
Do we have a monk-like robe?
Sandals?
The more the better, but please not just as a town-outfit-only version.
I think that’s a good attitude that Fletch and mavet portrayed, because that’s the answer you are getting for certain behaviour – a temporary ban. And with that attitude you won’t go on the forums to whine about it like a child – oh, they took my lolly from me for 72 hours because of that bad kid over there that taddled. No, you would take it like a grownup, you suck it up and move on. Because that’s what happens when hundreds and thousands of people are put together.
I like that
Oh, I totally agree with you that any real life argument is flawed, but not necessarily bad. You are just not seeing the complete picture (what kind of customer the owner of the restaurant wants to attract and what you may discuss with him). You did however identify the main difference – that you cannot truly affect anything because you can’t say something directly to the “face”. It is not the same type of interaction – hence trolling is really only an internet term.
But of course we have the bullies argument here – intimidate your discussion partner – again by ridiculing them and trying to make them feel bad. We are not discussing bans for profanity – but instead “don’t taddle you child”. “If you can’t take it go to mommy.”
Now in real life these might be valuable lessons, how to protect yourself or stand up against bullies. In this medium it’s rather futile.
You do have the ignore option, not denying that – it’s a good option that I like to use. But ask yourself if it really helps the situation in the long run. Because the ones that can’t stand this kind of behaviour – the wimsy kids as you might put it – they go out there and tell everyone how terrible the GW2 community is.
Control yourself, not others – that’s all I’m saying.
so again we are different. where I just block them. you take the extra childish step to report them for saying something to you on a computer game in hopes they get out in a timeout by daddy. this isn’t real life, do you really feel threatened or get upset from what someone says to you on a game chat? sad what a thin skin society we live in now days. omg he told me l2p and used bad words waaa plz ban he hurt me
To ridicule and basically insult your partner in a discussion like this really does not help your cause.
It only shows that you are out of arguments. The profanity filter can never serve as a universal filter for all types of insults, threats, racial slurs etc. On top of that the profanity filter might filter “normal” phrases (or accepted). Language also changes over time. You may be fine with an adult joke, but not with a personal threat. It (the filter) can only serve as a feeble attempt of extra layer.
Perhaps the anger and frustration is best let out directly – a screaming therapy if you like to imagine that. No need to type it down. Unless you actually want a negative reaction.
If you go to a restaurant with your friend – and you and your friend are “talking” to each other, you know, inappropriately – and the other guests complain, you can’t tell the owner of the restaurant that they should go sit at a different table, leave or ignore it (give them earplugs). The only solution for you is to keep your voice down in the first place if you absolutely can’t control it (or you are not willing to). Translated you can whisper your friend or party chat or guild chat with likeminded individuals/friends.
Well this is the best I can do in terms of a comparison to convey my thoughts about this matter.
Am i the only one that thinks they are just trolling us with a generic name when in reality they don’t have an economist on staff?
1:44 – may be a common name, nothing wrong with that.

I would be curious to see a quarterly update similar to this
https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/commerce-infographic-EN.png
One can hope, right?
What is the context of Legendary weapons though? From what I’ve seen, it’s closer to the word definition than to what players seem to think it is… And we don’t usually find real legendary stuff because we don’t live in fantasy world(which makes most legends just glorified fairy tales). But people do often find exqusite items in random places. Smb found a Stradivarius violin on the street, antique dealers visit flea markets looking for valuables etc.
Well the context for me would be the game environment and “carrot on a stick”. Obviously it doesn’t typically work that way either in any kind of tale or real life – there is only one Excalibur and no recipe for it to make another one.
Interesting enough – total different take though – some heroes are given the items before they set out to do the task there is. But I guess that might not work so well in this context of gaming.
I doubt anybody plays GW2 just for the TP flipping. I mean, there are enough economy-oriented games out there to satisfy people who only need that. It’s a very niche market with a limited application in more or less standard MMOs.
Same could be said for the “casual” player. At the end of the day my understanding is that Anet wanted to create a “world” that we like to live in.
No matter how you put it, basically if it’s supposed to be a carrot on a stick then it should take a while – no matter what route you take towards it. Otherwise – especially if the favour is perceived too far on one aspect – it creates unrest.
It’s, like, a trend. Your(and my) logic about mfind gear doesn’t work. (…)
Mhh, perhaps it should be taken out of the gear then, add it as an enchantment that goes on top of it? Some crafted, some to be found in dungeons, some WvW? Just throwing a spontaneous thought out there.
(…)
Oh, almost forgot. Did it ever occur to you:
1. to check the meaning of “legendary”? Cause I’m fairly sure it doesn’t mean what you think.
2. that legendary weapons are the carrot on the stick? Without them, your casual pve player would stick around this game for 2-3 weeks
3. that legendaries should be obtainable for everybody, but actually obtained by the most dedicated?
1. Perhaps one might not just think of the definition of it but also on how it is used in context. Because quite frankly a legendary weapon could have the status of a green item if you go by the meaning of the word legendary alone. (The real stuff of legend is also rarely found in a bazar – and if then only because the value was not known. One Excalibur only 10 rupees, grab it while it’s hot.)
2. So the pro TP player who achieves the carrot after 2-3 weeks sticks around longer … because? (exaggerating in a similar fashion) I’m somewhat sure that Anet would like us all to stick around.
3. Most dedicated in what?
I think you are hitting the nail here, it’s just that there are different angles.
The game mechanics are here to be discussed, only by questioning them/everything, can we maybe improve the game. There is no need for us to tell each other on how you are doing it wrong or condescending someone. Or worse, trying to come to conclusions on who we are talking too and what kind of person that is.
Having said that, I am not exactly sure how magic find itself is the issue. I would think that by giving up other stats for magic find you would have to make up for that with … skill?
3 per Borderland and 4 for the Eternal Battlegrounds, so there is your discrepancy from 189 to 202.
But OP, your post is a bit hard to understand – if you are looking at the summary on your map – that only shows the skillpoints you have unlocked by doing the challenge. The skillpoints you get by leveling up are not listed there – so your hero panel should show more – or less if you unlocked many (expensive) traits and not exactly 189.
I think that’s where the confusion comes from.
