“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
mumblegrumble can’t quote again.
Hah! You realize you may have gambled away my insanity! All right, I shall attempt serious advanced math.
8 professions
5 races
2 gender
3 order
plus rounding errors and 1 dragon =
42, how did that happen?
;)
Might be so people can get to dynamic group content, makes it easier and faster.
How was the inventory space situation in GW?
Sounds great, but if there’s an event near the waypoint said wapoint is usually contested.
I know eh, not for all but often for the really big guys.
He wasn’t “complaining” bojangles. Just relax and read the text again without a sarcastic undertone. The other poster said, I quote:
So we need waypoints, cuz no one should have to walk thru these gawd awful zones more than once.
To that the answer was GW might not be your thing, because you have to run even more. (edit for emphasis: thru these gawd awful zones)
I don’t mind the running per se, but in this day people don’t want to sit and wait 15 minutes until some more people show up to do some group content. Of course this could also be addressed with a “summoning” system.
The other points for me would be inventory, bank, and BLTC access.
Might be so people can get to dynamic group content, makes it easier and faster.

Eight professions, five races … but I always thought the answer would be 42!
According to forums all these games are dying, bleeding left and right, you name it – for years. Thus is the way and so it shall be – I’m gonna have a good time until then.
It’s probably a good thing no company releases all figures, people would be screaming their heads off all the time
All it does is it makes it more cumbersome. I’m not going to spend my gold on things I don’t know what they look like. Well maybe if I already have a look and I’m going to transmute it anyways.
I don’t think it’s a gem-conspiracy though
Well … I guess a dynamic system that would check what you have equipped first and then offer a slightly better reward would be nice.
Yes, most often you already found something better out in the woods and there is no complaining about that.
I usually check out the skin, nice way to get a set.
Don’t stop, I very much enjoy your comics. I bet you got a lot of material right now with invisibility and other bugs and glitches
I’m not sure either how changing the order is an improvement.
Not really attractive (edit: the offer), I agree. Perhaps there is more to come.
My Norn has all the bragging rights when he get’s back to Hoelbrak. Boasting around about the impossible deeds done yon and yonder and such. Yup.
So in a nutshell, the “quest” rewards are getting fixed, regardless once I get there (lvl wise) I know I will continue the story because I am not doing the storyline for loot. Not saying I don’t like shinies, that’s always a bonus.
Except for the “pants” these are mainly reward pieces from the story line, I like the “barbarian” look atm, was thinking of getting the norn helm with the larger horns, but I think this matches better so far. The pirate greatsword from Lions Arch works nice with it colour wise.
Spinach is the one missing me thinks.
The salvage kit? I use that when I want the rune.
Or the gathering tools? They are supposedly the same as the steel type (according to wiki).
All the kids in the Black Lion market say
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh.
Walk like an Asuranian.
Good stuff OP, have fun!
If it’s normal to not receive something fine. Part of the gambling then
I agree in general that I have to bite the bullet when I make a mistake myself. So far in all my years playing MMO’s I only had one incident where I accidentally sold my gear (in SWTOR) and I was pleasantly surprised to get a couple of items I remembered back.
However, not having experimented with the MF myself yet, do I understand this correct that there should always be a result – or is this wai to potentially gamble 4 items away?
If there should be some item coming out the other end – then I am of the opinion that the player should be compensated, not having done anything wrong.
Personally if this had happened to me I would not ragequit and I don’t quite agree with the tone of the OP, but it would definitely make me uneasy using the MF again. Since I plan on using this later on for dye’s and mini’s I would be upset if I lose some higher valuable mini’s due to a glitch.
No matter how important or non-important some perceive this particular issue, it would be nice to get some sort of an answer/reassurement regarding this functionality.
You guys got to be kitten me.
Hehe, personally I’m not using it myself to bleep out things I’m saying and doubtfully the forum had to bleep anything in my posts. I like it.
Really loved the article and I would be happy to read and see more of that kind!
I think if you had to stare at the screen for 15 minutes again to meditate your nostalgica will be gone … instantly.
Sometimes that is the only cure, having to experience it again. Best to keep the memories as they are and not dwell too much on it.
(…)
I’ve read almost all the books written by Asimov.
Just that I wouldn’t mind reading them once again.
It was just for making apoint.
Hehe. Understandable – but let’s lean back a bit and reflect on this. Is this really a fair comparison?
The medium for storytelling is totally different – most movies based on books cannot translate and capture the entire of the magic of the original story in the same way.
Similar to computer games – especially with limitations in a MMO environment.
Some examples:
- would you like long chapters watching events around other characters in an MMO?
- could our story span generations?
- you don’t get to chose the hero in the book
There have to be compromises.
Absolutely love it!
Ah, thanks for the clarification.
@ Paulus
Sorry, I don’t understand your last post – what exactly is the difference whether the key drops or the chest? Personally I only see a different icon.
People who like the consumables will get the keys – the price is not a factor because it is relatively the same if not cheaper than buying the consumable itself plus the extra gimmicks.
Of course they are violent. Look at their teeth. They scream “Eat your face off” violent.
This was the one big give-away for me as well, I looked at the teeth and I loved it. Not a cuddly little thing, but a piranha!
Totally adore the dialogues as well, a certain dry humour.
Well … honestly, how old are you if you haven’t read Asimov yet. Furthermore if you haven’t read it how do you know what maturity level it is for?
This is of course besides the fact that I can’t remember Asimov having written a fantasy, I considered them all science fiction?
Just take it as light literature, same as those westerns where the first guy had to be shot on page 7, high-noon on page 32 – you know.
Please do define the “challenge” a bit more that you are seeking, I am intrigued where the bar is for that compared to a Dostoyevsky, in computer-game terms I mean.
Edit: Btw – just poking a bit of fun here, don’t want it to come across the wrong way. I’m at a stage where most stories don’t surprise me anymore, the medium (movies, books etc) does not matter. There are only so many core stories and variances off. As long as it’s told good (or the effects in the movie are good) I’m happy. Personally I don’t need to read a Kafka, but I’m not sure that part has anything to do with age.

Interesting, so some of the perceived bots may very likely not be bots after all. I did not know this until now.
Pretty much everything has been said already so I just want to say that I’m a happy customer with an overall very satisfying experience so far. Not only in the game, but also with the communication from the team in general.
I’m having a good time and I’m looking forward to the things to come.
(…)
I knew going in that playing GW2 would mean I would be presented with many incentives to spend $$ for gems. We as players have to accept that if we like the game and want to keep playing it Anet needs to make money via the gem store. There is absolutely nothing in those chests that I ‘need’.
I agree and I am happy that this is one of the few items that remind me – otherwise the store is not “in-my-face” all the time.
Lol – thanks for the link – I did not read it properly, thought it was an upgrade item that can be upgraded itself – hehe. Gotta equip it next time I’m on right away.
Talk about a duh-moment.
@ NoOneShotU
Sorry, quoting doesn’t work for me atm. I guess that depends on what you are measuring that at. Usually there is a booster in there – which kinda covers the cost of the key (of course you don’t know what booster you are getting) plus 3 of the transform-me-into-a-critter tonics, sometimes another key or another odd “service” item.
Considering I don’t use time-limited items much I already got a fair share of “samples”, which I believe is the intent.
Now if the ueber-item would drop in every 100th chest that I could not get otherwise – then I would not like it being teased like this. Until then it costs me 1 inventory slot – well, plus the “samples” that I hoard.
Huh, pretty sure I did not get one in the 30 bracket with my guardian.
I could probably count the amount of different shape-changing tonics that I have to guesstimate the amount of chests I have opened so far. On top of my head I would say around 10, which would be ~1/3 of chests found, I don’t think that’s too bad.
I think I have 23 chests in the vault right now. Every once in a while I get a key as a reward (storyline? didn’t really pay attention) and from the chest itself. Usually consumables in there, nothing fancy for me so far.
Another most popular critic that I’ve never heard of. Oh well, it’s probably just me
I did take a quick peek just to be fair – honestly, play FPS if you are not interested in the MMORPG genre, you know, where a big part is about the characters and not just the pew-pew.
Conclusion: Sorry, not relevant.
Haha, always makes my day, thanks
Thanks for the detailed reply Jia.
I guess in the end that makes more sense as well and I can understand this, my only reservation left is – how many people really buy gems to trade them? I can’t see myself doing that – but hey, if there is a large enough playerbase doing it the better.
My plan thus far is to buy $10-$20 a month worth and I’ll try to add some gems here and there for the “smaller” things on sale – like the boxing gloves or maybe a pck of minis. We’ll see what happens when I run out of things to buy (potentially).
He means the actual upgrade that goes into the armour.

Can’t answer the question though, sorry.
Well, I think it’s great that you enjoyed it.
I consider myself happy that I am enjoying the Charr, Norn and Asura storyline thus far, my human storyline has to wait a bit and eventually I’m sure I will enjoy the Sylvari as well.
This does not only eliminate the option to overcharge, but also to clear out your inventory – if necessary.
I don’t even think anything is “borked”. There is a huge gap between different kind of players/playstyles as well as a certain need of education on how the system works currently – such as people like me not clicking “sell” out in the field and begone, but to hang on for it for a second and checking pricing first.
To sum it up, no thanks, I would not like a system as totalitarian as this, but rather shake my head when I see stuff that is too expensive, laugh my head off when it’s still there after days, or click “buy” with a smile on my face.
For the record, I have started buying and selling a few things here and there, probably make a few silver a day – but I don’t spend hours to play the market.
Contraire to most other games gold has a tad more value because of the tradeability into gems.
Well my opinion anyways.
Occupy Lion’s Arch TP? XD
Yo, Ho, Ho, and a Bottle of Juniberry Gin!
“Double-click to consume
Excessive alcohol consumption will result in intoxication.”
Mhh. No sorry, I can’t agree when it comes to a certain rating of quality.
I’m not saying this is not true for you – but as “stories” go there is simply a different premise.
Here the “official” descriptions:
The norn are a valiant race of huge, shape-shifting barbarians that hail from the frozen north. Strong-willed, passionate, and brave to a fault, the fiercely independent norn swear fealty to no single being. Guided in this world by their Spirits of the Wild, which embody the virtues of the mightiest beasts, the norn see life as a grand adventure.
The history of the norn is full of heroes, spirits, and impossible deeds. (…)
Vs
The charr—an aggressive feline race—have perfected the bloody art of war. While they are ruthless, relentless terrors to their enemies, charr are also brave allies who can form unbreakable bonds of loyalty.
Centuries of endless war have molded charr society into the most advanced militaristic and industrial race in Tyria. Their culture is dominated by the High Legions, which are in turn composed of smaller warbands of charr who live and fight together. Every charr—from the fiercest legionnaire to the humblest farmer—sees themself as a soldier.
I personally like them both so far – of course I have to chuckle sometimes listening to the boasting and the impossible deeds of my Norn (not to mention that mine seems to be cross-eyed in the cutscenes).
How do you like the asuran story?
a) If the TP was per server I would say you have somewhat a point, since it reflects all worlds it’s not possible to buy everything – not with the speed stuff is coming in. This is somewhat moot because of b).
b) No one has to sell something to a buy order, you can set your own price if you want to sell. If someone buys to the price you are selling for why limit the qty?
c) Could you elaborate for what items you see a 3-10 times price increase?
(edited by Rouven.7409)
I guess I was indeed wrong, although I still don’t see it clearly expressed that the only gems available are the ones bought and sold by other players.
http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-obrien-on-microtransactions-in-guild-wars-2
So umm, in other words – if all of you guys start buying gems for real cash and trade them for gold – the price will go down and I can afford some again?
Go Norn or …
(argh, message to short, alas I have to finish the sentence)
… go home.
Edit: Samson, good choice for a warrior imo.

You also used to get +10 Influence per character logged in (per day). However it looks like things have been adjusted to +10 Influence per account logged in (per day).

I still got 50 points yesterday per the log.
I found him!
I shall officially name you my favourite GW2 comic guy!

Rouven.7409:
They have told us that the buying and selling of gems is designed like a stock market which means the players buying and selling the gems is what influences the prices. Just like a stock market supply and demand plays a part in how the price of the stock is determined. But it is also the perceived value of the stock that also determines it’s price. This is more or less exactly how buying and selling gems works. Though it is unknown as far as I’m aware how much of weight each determining factor has on the prices.

I have not seen a statement like that, definitely interesting. Can you remember where this was said?
