Use the terrain to your advantage is what they said! So I stood back on the hill and watched over everything, like any good general does. Stop dying! Get back up! Watch out for the fear! Avoid those ice thingies! Why did the asura not send more golems?
Without my valuable input the whole operation would have been a failure. Do I demand credit for that? Were they even listening to me? Do I hear any thanks? No, but I will humbly be there, to aid and to guide, again and again.
Maybe one day, someone will turn around, look back up the hill and notice me, holding everything together.

For me the implication is, if it wasn’t for the laurels you would not craft master quality items or higher.
If you don’t factor in the concept of time as stated above then you can’t factor in the concept of “market value” for the materials needed either.
Yes – you can buy “time” by not farming the materials needed, but you are not buying the laurel even if that is your motivation to do it. “Time” here is the prime motivator – hence the continued exchange of information where to complete whichever category the fastest.

I did not pay anything, I would have leveled my crafting anyways, the incentive was there to do it now instead of later.
The impact on the market, however noticeable, would fall (to me) into the same category as the regular daily crafting category.

I really like your style, I could see a more serene picture, a snapshot of a kodan sitting contemplating at the fire, holding her/his young – something along those lines. A skritt lost in thought gazing at a shiny. Or more contemporary – refugees in rags, huddled together for shelter. A charr warrior, exhausted after the fight bending over a comrade to see if he is still alive. A Norn, arm stretched out – just sent his raven to flight.

The system might bundle the different sales over a period of time into one, which would make perfect sense to me – unless you want a buy history 1000 pages long with the same item over and over. If Anet would fill your order themselves, they would have also filled sell orders and we would not have needed extra recipes to get rid of a gazillion butter.

There are things I don’t like about the presentation and functionality of the TP, but I don’t think there is a need for theories that border on conspiracy?

Those NPCs DO actually revive each other (but not the golem), as long as they’re not in combat. However, unless you’re using a build that can kill enemies quickly, you probably won’t be able to get more than one NPC up before the next wave of enemies arrives.

Mh, never noticed that. I have been able to start reviving a second NPC – I guess by that time the inquest was already close enough for the other NPC to engage instead of helping me.

Perhaps delaying the next wave by a couple of seconds might help – although that might not be desirable if the NPC’s are not dead.

We know that some rabbits mutate and become extremely dangerous (for reference see Monthy Pythons documentaries) – we also know that the Grawl are utilizing rabbits to fight us. We also know what the rabbits do when we are not looking. As good citizens of Tyria it is our duty to do everything in our power to control this potential menace of mass rabbitation. With great freedom comes great responsibility. Or was it power. Orr? No undead rabbits there – the Asura should investigate their magical immunity.

Lodestone farming is horribly inefficient. The mobs that you get lodes from are never clustered and most often widely spaced out, so you’ll be killing stuff one at a time.

Better to grind out events (e.g. shelt/pen before the nerf) and make good gold to buy lodestones outright.

(…)

If this is true (only saying that because I can’t speak out of my own experience) then I see two possibilities:

a) Either the current situation is intentional – providing a certain goal that is meant to either take a long time for a casual player – or is meant as a goal to keep people who like to grind happy – nothing wrong with that in itself.

b) It’s not intentional and not truly balanced yet

As it is now it seems to make some players unhappy, because the TP seems to be the only viable way of achieving those items. Anet might want to find a way to translate their goals/intentions better (which will obviously still leave some people “complaining” about it).

Mhh, maybe I’m not thinking this through, could be also a) but not balanced, which is why they offered another way to obtain those items (the jewellery box).

I think overall Anet is on a very good track.

Anyways, thanks for clarifying, it makes it easier to read.

I really like the increased opportunity of obtaining “items” (rares/ectos) myself and not having to buy them on the TP – the price is not the primary factor, I don’t want to buy them for 1s or 10s or 50s, I like to get the majority myself and then decide if I maybe utilize the TP for some fillers, again be it gear or the ingredients.

Two thoughts:

a) John Smith actually does not have time to post on the forums because he is indeed micromanaging gem prices on a bi-minute level. A complex algorithm was designed to post more or less frequent automatically on his behalf.

b) John Smith has a jar full of gems on his desk – most likely made of glass, but that is pure speculation at this point.

Other than that I would rather like to know if there is a trend visible in terms of the exchange, are more people trading gems for gold now then six months ago, is it rather stable. My guess would be that a sort of equilibrium is still a bit farther out there.

Edit: A glass jar engraved with the GW2 logo – now I wish I could make that.

I like the idea of tying it into the “living story”. First thought when I hear “unlocking” for me would be on the go – within the story – not one massive grind up front. Then tie it into your “character background” again. Vigil ask you to WvW, Priory to acquire ancient relics that appear at the end of a dungeon (so don’t forget to grab it) etc.

To have it so random that no one can look the solution up is a different angle – not sure how that would look like though. Interesting.

Nels – a whole better system – I guess it’s always a problem to change something radical – but if you would try to work within the parameters given – what would this “scavenger story hunt” look like to you?

The use of portals … one the one hand is was a clear indication without asking in chat or looking it up what’s going to happen. On the other hand I think it’s a tad overused by now – I’d rather see them coming, could be out of a new cave or the like, being invincible until they get where you should fight them.

They should be able to go in an update your status. When I made myself a storage guild I didn’t give myself permissions. I sent in a bug report asking to be given leader status. It did take some time, but eventually I represented in to it to check and I had all the permissions. So, obviously they can do it.

Good luck on getting your guild back, this must be very frustrating.

I’m not sure if i should be happy or sad about this. It is obvious then since they fixed your issue, they’re can help me as well and that makes me hopeful, but at the same time, I feel sad and confused why they haven’t done so.

Question is if this qualifies as a bug. The system worked in that it appointed someone else as new leader, we just don’t know the parameters.
The real problem seem to be the parameters themselves and that there is apparently no backup plan for what happens when the parameters “failed”.

Precursors. A little while ago there was mention that there were going to be other ways to get hold of precursors, like through the scavenger hunt.

Colin: Someday yes.

Someday. So no plans for the immediate future?

Colin: We’ve thrown in a few more RNG ways to get them, like random chances for places they could go in the game recently, but that’s not the real solution. That’s just a “hey lets just increase the number of places people can earn them at this point”. The fixes for qualifying for loot that will go in the February release will also increase the chances you can get precursors ‘cause it means you have a higher chance of rolling for loot in every creature that you kill. Which means you have a higher chance of getting a precursor. So that will help as well. But long term we’d like to do something that’s a little bit more epic where there’s a clear path of “here’s everything you need to do and when you complete it you automatically get a precursor.” We’re not working on that right now, we’re really trying to design what that would be, but yeah certainly at some point we will create a system that allows you to do that.

I highlighted the part in Colin’s answer that “inspired” the following.

How about we give our input on how we could imagine such a design without trying to present solutions and focusing on why this or that wouldn’t work. That is something “they” do anyways and they know way better what they can do or want to do. A little brainstorming if you so will.

When I think about this I ask myself, what else stands out for me (my characters) along the road. That would be the personal story, slightly personalized it gives me a tour through Tyria, providing a backdrop, a few extra pieces to the puzzle.
Then, what sort of doesn’t matter any more, which choices I made had a very small impact in the long run – character choices like the personality question (Charm, Dignity, Ferocity) or the race questions (for humans where you were raised, your regret and who you received your blessing from).

Ideally I would love to see a “precursor” story, which takes me again through Tyria, slightly different depending on the choices above and the order I’m with (another part that I feel is underused), uncover old relics with the priory, study texts in the archives for the next clue – hide in the closet as a whisperer to eavesdrop on a pirate blacksmith – conquer svanir fortifications with the vigil. Go a step further, let that story teach me on what ingredients might have to be used to forge a legendary weapon later on – this could even mean to obtain a “quest” version of a charged core (or why not the real thing? Or one of each?) and make it into a lodestone.

Crafting – new items, either to perhaps trade with NPC’s for secrets or to “fix” a broken part of the “precursor” we are about to obtain. Could be tradable (on the TP) and should be in line with the craft needed anyways. Sprinkled maybe with a few sacrifices necessary to ensure Zommoros goodwill.

Well, I’m sure you guys can come up with some better ideas, maybe even more detailed. I tried to keep this rather rough because I just wanted to put a few ideas out there and not present a “solution”.

Before updating the wiki make sure this person was in fact an officer. I don’t recall the OP ever saying this person was an actual officer or just a member.

You know what – I think you are not only right in that, but I think the answer given was false anyways because it was given to the 60 day inactive period, which turned out to refer to GW1.

My bad, I think it would be nice to know what rules apply in the case of accidentally removing oneself (as a leader). Obviously a system exists.

I can’t remember if that member used to be an officer, think I’ve been in the guild for 6 weeks or so and don’t recall ever seeing that person.

Hover the mouse over the carrots, press Alt and keep it pressed, now left click on your carrots, keep the mouse pressed as well. Move the mouse to another empty slot in your inventory – notice how it drags the carrots with them. Now let it go – a window will pop up, asking you how many to take – default is half of the original stack I believe. Enter a “1” and click ok. You should now have one stack of 99 and one stack of 1.

Hope that helps.

Btw – not that it would have helped, but perhaps someone can update the wiki (don’t know how myself) that the system automatically appoints the longest serving officer as the new leader when someone loses permissions in this fashion.

“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”

Tips on how to use the Trading Post

a) placing a buy order represents no risk whatsoever – at the most a temporary binding of some of your funds (please correct me, I’ve never noticed a fee when placing a buy order). As such, if you are not in a hurry there is no need to “overcut”, rather check the volume and place the offer at a point that you are comfortable with.

b) placing a sell order is different, it does cost 5% to list alone. Again, rather look at the volume and the amount of people listing the item – depending on my quantity I list it at the next “block” (next large volume) or somewhere in between.

The only tip I can give is – if you are selling don’t rely on the information in the selling window. Search the item on the TP directly and glance over.

P.S. This is not related to trading but to the casual here and there getting rid of no longer needed materials. Of course I often do the above as well if I like to have the transaction done without accepting existing sell offers or it’s not worth for 16 copper to fuss about it but it’s still 12 copper more then from vendoring it.

And when you get your guild back . . . we do expect you to host a feast worthy of the title Goddess, with more food than a Char could eat and more drink than a Norn can consume.

Hear hear!

To have no system in place is a little disappointing. To have no system in place and not being able to help …

So we could disable the custom rank feature all together until some measures are in place. Either this happens often – in that case definitely, or it happens rarely – in that case Anet should consider being a little bit more lenient.

Compromise, manual process from Anet’s side to check after a month or two if the automatic appointed leader came online – if not – promote previous leader again.

I’m sure Tiger would be happy to send another ticket at that time to follow up.

Which part? The part where you say “if you don’t like it leave” or the part where you are trying to defend used mechanism with the undeniable logic that this is how it’s done? Perhaps some can imagine other ways and solutions to “problems”.

The genre can only improve if people question existing mechanics and provide their feedback – your feedback of “I like it” is not less valuable – but it’s not more valuable either and no reason to tell others to “suck it up” ever so politely.
