I was doing some research, and discovered that there are Precursors being sold for super cheap on the TP as I type! The image I’m attaching will shatter the mythos of Precursors being too expensive. But I like this post. It shows that the majority of the players care not about themselves, but they care about how others see them: “I won’t get an underwater legendary because I can’t show off with it.”

(I got Frenzy because I love underwater combat on my ranger)

The only time I go underwater is when the aquatic daily pops up. Or the few fish/shark champions. If you’d like me to make up a number I’d say less than 5% of my game time has been spent under water. So I won’t get a legendary under water weapon, or spend a transmutation charge (I got around 80), or bother obtaining an exotic or a specific stat combo – heck I don’t even care about the aqua breather.

Apart from personal taste it simply shows that these weapons are not used often because they are not “effective” (depending sometimes on PvE/PvP/WvW). Sure some still get them for other reasons, be it collecting or because like you said – they like underwater combat.

Same whyI never bothered with town clothes, because I never saw them. By now I bought several head pieces because I can wear them in combat – which I am in a lot of times – and the outfits because of the same reason.

Because, by it’s nature, PvE isn’t prestigious. There’s nothing prestigious about learning to beat an unchanging AI. The AI in this game doesn’t learn or adapt its tactics based on the situation. It does what it’s programmed to do. Learning how to beat it (in many cases by simply getting enough people together and spamming 1) is not prestigious, it’s expected.

I have a lot of issues with this game and with ANet, but sPvP exclusive rewards certainly isn’t one of them. I would consider it a baby step in getting more people into what should have been the defining aspect of the game (next steps: balance and diversified game modes).

To be fair, what is prestigious about the reward track armour? The one reserved for tournaments is from my viewpoint, the other one only shows that you did pvp, just like any pve armour shows that you pve’d?

You missed mine….the fact that you think it’s “not a big deal”, to misquote something like that is the problem. Even if YOU knew it was not a direct reference for Robin Williams, others reading it may not. THAT is the issue.

I disagree. Sure it will be lost for some, but those people would have not shown interest in literature (or poems) in the first place. You either are the type who looks into quotes, checks out where they come from, who said them and why and maybe even how/if the use changed – or not.

It boils down to exposure and waking interest, that is always a good thing. If Robin William made it “cool” or interesting with his performance (not to forget the other actors and the movie in general) and makes it popular then that’s even better.

Regardless – I was more thinking about an easter egg sort of thing, I don’t agree with a big memorial or the sorts.

My honest opinion, they should be unlocked by playing. Mock up your own rank system and have symbols for it, from “private” to “three star general”. But I know, it’s not a gold sink.

What I would wish for is for more diversity in regards to karma vendors. Everywhere you see the same skins. This could have been made more fun.

What would prestigious PvE armour be anyways? We already dismissed the crafted armour – because that’s just a grind and not prestigious, dungeon armour doesn’t count because it’s 2 years old and “they” can have it too and it’s just a grind, cultural armour doesn’t count because well, you just buy that for gold.

Leaves fractals? Might as well call it “raid” armour and be done with it, hehe. Again I would not mind. Make it so you can use up all your rings and things I read about that are just worthless after a while.

PvP and WvW have gotten the short end of the stick for a while, I don’t see them as being babied at all.

Now, is it fair that they can get the dungeon armor without doing the dungeons? Sure. It’s not like they aren’t doing anything for it. They still have to play their chosen mode. It’s not any different than strict pvpers obtaining pve skins via balth faction in GW1. Same concept.

Then why is it fair that there are (or rather will be again) PvP-only armors? Why wouldn’t there be a way for PvE plyers to work for it? And not by crafting, but by questing (as that should be the PvE way of getting stuff, not that mindless farming that is required at the moment…)

Well, we sort of had those as the meta achievement rewards, or at least that’s how I looked at it.

There is a balance update coming in September. 99% of new skins that are released are black lion gem skins which means it’s not pve skin. And again my point isn’t only about pve and pvp, but also WvW who have nothing. And it’s not easy making a legendary if your a pver either. And whether you think this thread is productive or not is your own opinion. But if you plan on replying to threads your supposed to keep it on topic.

According to the images posted about the change to tags, you can change your color anytime and the refund will most likely be in gold.

Didn’t see the images, that would be the most awesome, although I’m not sure where the number 4 comes from in that case, having bought 3 would make more sense.

Anyways, enough speculation from my side.

This hinges on the assumption that each color will also cost 300g. That information hasn’t been released that I’ve seen.

The interpretation seems clear to me, the commander tag costs 300g and you can chose the colour. Pretty much in a nutshell.
My assumption would be that the reason you need to have bought 4 tags for the refund is that you will not get a refund in gold, but rather another tag via email (maybe it’s open the tag, then chose the colour, easiest). So you keep blue and exchange the 3 other tags for one new one.

Edit: Little side note, first I was exposed to Robert Frost that I remember was also through a movie, I believe it was called “Telephone” with Charles Bronson. Russian Sleeper Agents were activated over the phone with lines from the poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”. So who knows, you might do literature actually a favour by seeding it into movies and games etc.

Mh, I guess I wasn’t clear. I believe this is the reason why we see threads like this popping up. The story rewards thus far did not include needing a crafting profession.

Otherwise the highest level armour is only available via crafting and other skins like the grenth backpiece etc as well.

Personally I always crafted because it feels to me more like a completion of the characters, I don’t craft for profit – it’s simply an option I like.

I guess because it’s sort of “in your face” this time, receiving items “as a reward” that are of no use to you unless you have the crafting professions in question leveled accordingly.

On the flipside, other than having to guest for guild mission rewards or not having access to the guild bank (because you can still use the guild banners that someone else plops down) there is no reason to move to that world.

Well, if you wanted to simulate that accordingly then you’d also have to factor in that you can make far more jewelry with one gold ingot than armour with an iron ingot. You have to simplify the model a little bit for a game environment. Then you have to factor in the amount of work it takes to actually mine and process the ore – most of that stuff doesn’t sit on the side of the road … anyways … at this point I feel it would change the whole dynamic of the game, but heh, doesn’t hurt to brainstorm.

The price for iron is higher because the demand is higher because the usefulness is higher.

In real life the price for iron would be higher too, due to its usefulness compared to gold, but in real life, people like to wear gold as jewelry – something that in RL other people see, but in GW2 is useless as a status symbol.

Maybe a tiny factor could also be that iron is far more abundant than gold … in the real world.

proviticus – I hear you – to be honest it somewhat goes against my grain that I make the most amount of gold by selling my stuff. I like to keep my stuff, it’s mine. But realistically in this game that is how you make the gold, that or getting lucky (or speedrunning dungeons I guess). It’s just a technicality if you are “farming” dragons or farming nodes/regular mobs.

As for the second part, the difference would be that another player benefits from it and the materials are not generated from thin air, but through someone playing.

Look at it from another side. There is a reason why the low level materials are needed in the highest level of recipes – so that they are not worthless. It’s now your choice, or opportunity to get them yourself or pay someone else to do it. If you move this to a vendor you take this away from another player. You are not forced to do the low level content, you can trade your high level materials.

Of course I understand your reasoning that “linen” should not be as or even more valuable as “gossamer”, but it is done with intention to make sure some maps are not obsolete.

We don’t run dungeons all the time, there might be more dungeon oriented guilds out there, but I found this to be a very nice group of people.

You can also get these items through the PvE laurel merchant, cost no badges but 10 more laurels per items if my memory serves.

If you really like to pursue a legendary weapon you may want to start with map completion (you may get some exotic items you can use), next check out the mystic clovers – take it from there to see if you might want to obtain exotics via karma.

You can check out some world bosses, they reward guaranteed rare item chests once a day. They are on a set schedule, you will find the dragontimer on guildwarstemple or dulfy.

Edit: Guild missions are also an option to obtain some ascended accessories, but it takes a couple of weeks. We run guild missions friday nights and sundays during the day, always fun, fell free to drop in with no obligations (but remember to guest to TC, otherwise you won’t get rewards).
