Since when are personal game experience and forum opinions linked? I’ve played many unpopular games didn’t affect my enjoyment in the slightest – I’ve never left a game just because someone else did either, nor have I ever announced my departure from a game on a forum. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion – my opinion for what it’s worth is – posts telling other members of the community what they can and cannot do should be left those in charge of the forum.

The Worst thing that has happened to GW2

Out of all the collective changes made to the game in multiple updates and builds, you players are the worst thing that has happened to this game, and this community..

Forums are the place to express opinions and I hate to burst the bubble but yours (or mine for that matter) are no more valid than anyone elses. The worst thing and the root cause of the strong feeling is changing the game manifesto without communicating in any meaningful way with the community and it’s concerns – had that been done… we wouldn’t be in the them and us situation we are now.

Seriously talk about “you players” not “us players” put “you” and it’s finger pointing. Is it helpful to start attacking the players that don’t agree with you? It doesn’t seem much different from the things you are complaining about.

Same.

And for exactly the same reasons as everyone else…

This time last week I was really enjoying the game had so much to do, so many alts to raise Now it feels pointless my OH has quit completely, friends I played with in GW1 have mostly quit the few left are hardly ever on and when they are we always end up just talking in LA.

Personally I think here’s a difference in customer opinion here from the GW1 customer base and those entirely new to the game.

GW1 players have been encouraged to have bigger expectations because of our ANet experience in that game and because we followed development from announcement to launch and believed what we were being told and the assurances given. So it’s perfectly reasonable to be upset I don’t single out devs – I’m upset with ANet that includes the devs.

If I’d have come to GW2 from the SWTOR, Rift, WoW, TSW direction I wouldn’t feel at all invested in the game and more than likely wouldn’t care if they added grinds, lfg tools, gear scores or anything else.

You could say that if you knew how the 90% who don’t get involved in forums felt You can’t assume they’re all loving it just as they don’t announce their leaving to group

A few posts demanding gear grind from locusts that swarm in every new MMO and swarm out to the next big thing – lets change the whole thing and give them a gear grind.
A lot of posts from GW1 players, and players that bought the game based on ANets vision (the manifesto) players looking for something different, a MMO that broke this tired old format of gear doth a great player make and…………… the silence is deafening.

You aren’t meant to buy your way to the top, the store was designed for (mostly) cosmetic items and various boosters.

Curious.. Why do you need the armor if you don’t have the time needed to get it? Surely you also don’t have time to do anything with it either, right?

Everyone needs the best to pose around town don’t they?

The endgame grind was designed for cosmetic items Legendaries and skins now that changed why not. I’ve always been anti pay-to-win but seriously I don’t think it would hurt this game the way it is now it’s the only way to fulfil the casual friendly part and would give ANey more money than feeding locusts.

Easy solution to the Ascended Gear problem #2

I don’t understand what peoples problem is about a “gear grind”. After max level, full exotics, what do you expect to do? A gear ladder is simply the only way they can continually reward players to keep playing. The gaming industry has conditioned gamers over the years to expect reward for doing a task, so this is what it comes to. Gear ladder is the only option, don’t like it, why the hell are you still playing?

In the case of ascended gear however, this argument is even less valid as the gear ONLY pertains to the fractals dungeon. Agony doesn’t do anything outside of fractals. Ascended Gear stats are therefore equal to Exotics with a gem on them.

As for gear in WvW, by completely replacing the gear system like sPvP, that leaves pvpers no reason to play any pve content ever. You should be able to kitten on people if you spent more time getting better than them, thats just how things work. Saying everyone should be on equal grounds is like saying a newly hired 9-5 worker should get the same salary as the CEO on day 1. Earn your stripes.

“Earn your stripes” This just makes me LOL typical of the mindset gear makes a good player and perhaps you missed the part where GW2 billed itself as a different MMO that’s the problem with gear grind there’s nothing different about it and it encourages the attitude you have. When gear is a level playing field the game becomes about skill and having fun, just playing not expecting “kitten on people” just because you have more time on your hands. Ascended gear has more base stats had it the same as Exotics ppl wouldn’t be complaining because ANet would not have broken their word.

I hope they keep rolling our new uber gear ever few months, crosses fingers

If I tell you once a week that your HP and charisma have been boosted by +5, will that satiate your desire for BIG NUMB3RS?

Only if I had to go through something brutal to achieve it, yea. But if we all got it, and all had the same stuff, what would be the point of even having gear?

The point is it’s a level playing field then and it becomes a game of skill where if you fail you don’t point the finger at the one in your group with bad gear but the one in your group who doesn’t know how to play his/her character. Discourages the worst elitist attitudes simply because elitist type players usually really truly believe gear makes them a superior player.

Let’s recap:

New gear that has higher stats then the previous one.
New content that makes the open world content old after only two months.
Gear only available via RNG in dungeons, only runes are crafted.
Almost all of the resources needed to make the runes come from this one dungeon.
Dungeon currency used for the upgrades that don’t drop in the dungeon.

How is this against the manifesto?:

Gear is now vertical not cosmetic.
Required to play only in a single way, dungeon crawling.
Stats on gear has become the new focus, whether intended or not.
New gear is not available for crafting as promised all gear would have an equivolent craft set for horizontal progression.

I’d say it’s definitely NOT our imaginations, definitely NOT an exaggeration, and definitely NOT irrational concerns. As customers we should be concerned for where a product that we’ve invested time and money into is heading.

Exactly so and most affected by this change imo is the GW1 player base we listened to development years of how GW2 would stay true to the GW1 ethos it’s that loyal player base that ANet have decided to alienate… the locusts from other games will do what they do with all new MMO’s swarm in buzz loudly and swarm out when the next big thing comes along.

Should max stat gear be easy to be obtained?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ruby Red.4019

Ruby Red.4019

There should be multiple ways to achieve gear with the max stats imo. That’s called playing the game your way and that was GW2 original starting point and how they marketed the game. A level playing field for everyone means the game is then about skill, learning to play the character etc. Unfortunately ANet has turned the game on it’s head and it’s now about chasing gear stats with elitist attitude required just by the Fractals design of scaling the group to the lowest Fractal level player.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Ruby Red.4019

In a way, the manifesto is still correct. You don’t need Ascended gear unless you plan to do Fractals past level 10. So you can still see and do the Fractals content up to that point . If you want to continue to progress, at that point you would need to get the available ascended items. Therefore, you don’t need Ascended gear to experience every element of the game. There is no gear treadmill. There is simply an optional Fractals progression and corresponding armor items.

But because these items are better than exotic, people feel they will be forced to grind them to remain competitive with those people who wanted to do the fractals content and have already obtained them.

I just wanted to edit and add that ArenaNet could have avoided this entire fiasco by simply making the new Ascended items have the same stats as regular gear but with Infusion and better looking/more desirable skins. Thus players would have only been affected if they wanted to do Fractals and collect those armor skins. But by increasing the stats, for whatever reason the devs had for doing it, they opened a big can of worms.

The manifesto is blown out the water and I don’t see how it’s still correct… it was defunct at the point where they added superior stats and only one way to get said items. Any increase in base stats is useful for normal dungeons pve and WvW so it’s all about the definition of need. I do agree with you that had they stuck to the same stats and only adding infusions that were just useful in Fractals they could have avoided the whole mess.

I really dont like the direction this game is heading, they advertised it as an MMO thats trying to break barriers and in alot of ways it did and thats what made people buy the game in the first place. Now all they are doing is kitten on all that by changing the foundation this game was built upon. It feels as tho the management have changed there original goals. :s

Or management has changed idk but there’s an evil influence somewhere and if they have dreams of competing with WoW they will fail as all other games have failed before them because that time has passed WoW was a product of it’s time- A huge number of players have been there done that and the market is ready for something different – the great and only hope of GW2 was their promise to be different.

…then you really need a better gem shop.

Suddenly, ANet cares about vertical progression, and many say this is because they need those players for business purposes. I rather think, if the payout of BLTC was lower than expected, it might have to do with the offerings being terrible.

The #1 item for GW1 sales were costumes, we know this is also true for LOTRO – their biggest sellers are cloaks and dresses. The sparkle pony raked in extra millions for WoW.

So we get a cash shop of nonsensical town clothes, useless boosters, and hideously ugly gear available on an RNG basis from chests. No wonder it isn’t selling. Put in things that are worth buying and make that purchase guaranteed, and I promise the money will come rolling in.

[snip]…
As for ascended gear, to reiterate what Chris has said (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/A-message-from-our-Studio-Design-Director-Chris-Whiteside), it’s not intended as a treadmill, but rather as a tier of rewards that can help bridge the gap between Exotics (a few hours of effort to acquire a piece) and Legendaries (hundreds of hours of effort to acquire one). They’re currently only available in the Fractals of the Mist Dungeon, but we’re going to be adding new ways to acquire them, both inside of WvW as well as elsewhere in PvE.

The way that Legendaries were introduced there was no gap between them and Exotics. They followed the manifesto. There is, however, a huge gap between Exotics and Ascended gear. So, rather than fixing a gap, you’ve introduced one. So, this is my first hurdle to climb in understanding your logic. And, suppose I give you the stated fact that a gear-based, vertical progression treadmill was not intended with the introduction of the new tier of gear. Do you now understand that you have introduced what you didn’t intend? It’s a serious question. I would really like to know because it’s so obvious to so many people. How did you miss it?

Indeed – in fact Legendaries will have to be changed to match the stats of Ascended that’s creating a gap. Players will always behave like that is a total cop out too… when you introduce -levels- in a dungeon and put the group to the -level- of the lowest player you aren’t just encouraging that attitude you are requiring it. And btw this “lions den” is self inflicted.

ANet clearly think events are a selling point why else have a trial w/e at the same time as the event – invite your friends the one time event you won’t want to miss – huge mistake on their part. All they need to do is lower the number of people allowed in an overflow slightly. You can easily have 50+ together without the lag, just not the overflow completely maxed out.

And the realm servers themselves which 50 of the thousands capacity do you chose? We have guilds with 1000+ members. I logged in early to get out of overflow since most problems were there with the Mad King instead most of the problems this time were on home realms. I think I managed 5 secs of fighting before lag freeze in an overflow which was 5 secs more than on my home server.

Thanks for working at an attempt to fix it, I know its not easy working on this stuff and you guys at A-net can only prepare for so much. Other companies(Blizzard, ect) would also have glitches like this when they release expanding content and when they do have glitches, instead of doing what A-net is doing(keeping the server up and trying to fix the server with the server up), the other companies would of just taken their server down until they are satisfied with their attempt at fixing it.

Or disabled until fixed…. especially when dealing with ppl that apparently cannot read judging by this thread

But seriously to have learnt nothing at all from the Mad King and the game so far…. skillpoints…. dungeon entrances – 3 months on…. bugged on a regular basis waiting for a maint. What do you GW1 guys want from the game then? How are to keep a MMO fresh without introducing new content and gear? I’m just so confused by this – that’s what MMOs do. They continue to evolve. GW1 did change and it did have new gear. they had 5 (or something) expansions and I know I wasn’t sitting in the gear I got from vanilla GW1 that whole time.

How do you keep a game fresh by copying a tired old format – many gamers bought GW2 because it promised to move away from that tired old format which it turns out is not true. And yes Armour in GW1 changed but by the addition of more skins not stats and the armour skins were beautiful btw… here they’re ugly as hell.

Remake GW1 a good idea or what?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ruby Red.4019

I actually was sitting around thinking about this. They obviously made GW2 to cater to WoW players, or standard MMO players, in general. The entire concept behind the first game is just plain gone. PvP focus, the skill system, the method of balancing, everything. There’s nothing similar about the two games at all other than the setting. GW2 probably should have been called something like “Guild Wars: Whatever,” as it’s definitely not the second game in the series.

I’d be interested in seeing some sort of PvP-only side game built using this engine, and preferably handled by different people, as I have no faith in whoever is in charge of this batch. Most preferably, I’d like to see a different company entirely make a very similar game, as ANet was already kind of crazy in the GW1 days, got nuts near the end, and is obviously now completely mad.

You’re right and we should have been told of their ambition to be no more than a WoW clone in the first place rather than having years of hot air and fluff about a new breed of MMO. And now they’re fully invested in that market so players that want anything else can go swivel all it took was a few we want progression posts and now that versus vs the deluge of unhappy gamers and ANet response = zero. That tells me all I need to know about trusting this company ever again. So would I trust them to rework GW1 no probably not and could any other company do it… no again. It was a one off moment of brilliance hence it’s what 6ish years of being a successful game.

Please, if you feel so strongly about it, stop playing the game and stop posting here. Rest assured, you won’t be missed.

I’ll wait out the WoW locusts, and hopefully ANet will come back to their senses.

I had the same thoughts unfortunately it seems heads are firmly in the sand. And the lack of response from them is unforgivable I’m so disappointed by ANet there must have been a management change or something I can’t believe devs with the original vision of the game in mind can think any of this is a good idea.

The OP’s issue – which I also wonder about – is that if GW2 introduces a gear treadmill, s/he won’t ever be able to ‘catch up’ and do the content. There’ll always be a grind just to keep up with good quality gear, as higher gear gets introduced and content gets set to that level. I think it’s a reasonable concern, and is one of the many concerns I have right now about GW2 and ANet.

I think it’s legitimate too and the way the new dungeon works with fractal levels and the groups always being reduced to the lowest fractal level player it won’t be very long at all before to easily get a group you have to be X level which will hit limited time players.

Maybe we were hasty to jump at "progression."

They haven’t broken their promise, not yet at least.

They so have… play the game your way…. not any more… multiple paths to the same (stats) goal – crafting, pvp/wvw, dungeons… not any more… no exclusion from content based on gear… not any more. Communication is diabolical – obviously the only way to get a response from ANet is to QQ “I have nothing I can be bothered to do so this game sucks” Considering the number of in-game bugs like Arah being bugged shut more than it’s working as intended lets just ignore all of that and introduce a gear grind man that’s so brilliant why haven’t other MMO’s thought of it…. oh wait…. they did!

I think the players this Ascended gear treadmill and associated change in game ethos hits GW1 players more than players that came straight to GW2 after all we were told for the years of development of GW2 it would be a different format of MMO (closer to GW1 than WoW). SPVP and WvW just hasn’t delivered either really. And it’s these players ANet is likely to lose so perhaps we’ll all go back to GW1 ….

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Ruby Red.4019

As I have said before…

“Here are some of my problems, and other people probably feel the same way.

In gw1 you hit max level pretty early and get max gear pretty fast. After that you just farm for custom skins.

Gw2 was sold to us as the same type of thing.

So, I had planned on leveling 1 of each class to level 80 and buy them all multiple sets of exotic gear and weapons. Then I was going to mostly play them in WvW and then sometimes explore pve for fun and skins, as new content came out.

A lot of people had already gotten far enough to make lots of sets of exotics and used transmutation stones, believing that this gear would have max stats forever. Some spending a fair amount of money on this and now feel it was wasted and are upset.

The problem now is that the precedent has been set for new tiers of gear being added into the game.

I no longer believe that I will be able to level all classes to 80 and get all of the different sets of gear for them in the time that I want to spend with the game.

Even if I decided I could live with this new gear and filled the inventory of my characters with lots of different sets of gear for WvW, they could then just decide to add a new tier of gear and all my time would have been semi wasted and I would need to farm new gear. I would never be able to trust that my gear had the best stats and I would never use transmutation stones either.

So, pretty much, with this update, the game will no longer be the game that I wanted to play and I will have to quit.

For me to play the way I had planned on playing the game would have to have a firm max tier, or, WvW will have to use pvp gear… or both."

So this has nothing to do with me whining. If the patch goes through it will no longer be the game that I want to play. From my point of view this patch will cause as much disinterest for me as if it was patched into being a racing simulator or an RTS.

I also notice that the few people (defending)calling people names have only posted in this forum as if they are new accounts… I doubt if most of them are even real players of the game.

People need to stop saying they are setting a precedent.

Every single change sets a precedent… nerfs, buffs etc…. they all set a precedent.

Increasing karma prices for gear? Precendent…. How do we know they wont continue doing this?

Flooding the market with Materials? Precendent… What if they did this with other hard to get mats?

Saying they are setting a precedent doesn’t mean anything when everything they change can set a precedent.

It’s changing their stated game philosophy – play it your way – not any more – no gear grind – not any more – multiple paths to a goal – not any more – no exclusion from content based on gear – not any more. And that’s what ppl have an issue with this is not the game I bought if I wanted this tired old format I’d be back in WoW or Rift.

Never had a problem getting a group tbh. Dungeon Finders in my experience do have downsides regarding players attitudes to one another. And no matter what system you have mapchat will still be spammed to death if nothing else because of ppl that have special ‘requirements’. It’s not lazy developers it’s more like lazy players. The best idea I’ve seen is so far is a form of chat channel per dungeon.

Fractal of the Mists and Agony: ok by me!

So, unless subsequent expansions end requiring more and more and more infusions (and there’s no reason to think they will), I see no reason to worry about the Agony mechanic. What would make more sense would be for subsequent expansions to each have their own “flavor” of infusion, so that the mechanic measures progress for that specific content rather than becoming the new benchmark for the entire game.

There is in fact every reason to think they will….

Infusions are a special new type of Upgrade Component that can only be slotted into special Infusion slots on gear.

There are multiple types of Infusions and Infusion slots. In November, we’ll introduce Offensive, Defensive, and Omni Infusions of Fine rarity from new Mystic Forge recipes. Infusion upgrade types must be paired with their like slot, with the exception of the rare and versatile Omni Infusions which can be slotted into any type of Infusion slot.

You people really have some trust issues. They have officially said that they will not be creating further tiers of armor past this set. I’m sure they’re aware that they can be quoted on such matters. You aren’t wasting anything.

They officially said and marketed the game on the back of…. no gear grind multiple paths to the same goal so no matter how you like to play no-one would have a gear advantage and no exclusion from content based on gear… and 3 months in… Trust really?

No, no, no!

As a GW1 player I too feel it’s an utter betrayal I trusted ANet and I’m hugely disappointed that they have thrown away both their principles and their promises and that they’ve done it so quickly! What 3 months?

Can they really be unaware that this vocal minority screaming “make it just like WoW” are just that a minority. The majority of players are enjoying the game without ever coming near the forums. Yeah I guess they can. And in true MMO style once they begin to listen and cater to the few – good games become bad games rapidly.

More content yes of course and Cantha and Elona expansions please! Gear grind, Agony gimmicks, well…just makes me want to cry.

empower solo players for events

You have a point OP as there is a growing movement of cherry picking events and leaving most others undone especially in 75 – 80 areas even or maybe especially on busy servers – that combined with fewer players in many areas at non peak times. It was a mistake and a shame IMO dropping heroes and henchies in GW2 – for the player that wants to follow the content at their own pace.

Eight Needed Game Improvements

Don’t think there’s a good idea or anything the game needs in any of the points 1-6.

2 – Teleports are optional if you don’t want to pay then run. It’s a moderate fee and HoM >LA free in town teleports free. As far as personal stories go if you do them as you go through the zones instead of in lumps it doesn’t cost much at all.

3 – is total lunacy scaling already scales based on the stats you have so an 80 scaled down already has an advantage over a player of the zone level… and you want10 levels above?

6 – You can reset at will – you just need a trainer and a fee – once you figure out you only need the manuals once and can use trainer resets – it gets cheaper lol.

I’m on a busy EU server and the same… what I’ve noticed is ppl do certain events in the high level areas the rest no-one bothers with. Straits of Devestation for example the WP’s are always contested I rarely see another soul and if I do they’re loooking for Orichalcum nodes.

Ppl seem to be looking for a quick repetive zerg Plinx on Cursed Shore always has tons players and there are about 5 events close together there… Easy zerg. Same as the dragon events always full – It would be so much better if dynamic events were just that dynamic the events what we have so far are mostly timed so players can go from one to the other without ever interacting with the rest of the world or just sit in one spot waiting for them.

Same with dungeon story modes and even explore mode on some of the less popular dungeons (HoTW and SE) hours or even days lol to get a group which often falls apart before completion.

And all this on a full server /sigh! I want heroes and henchies back badly at least my alts would be able to do the content!
