Trinity will not come to this game, it would take an enormous effort to rebuild characters and classes from scratch. Why do trinity addicts need to start a thread about this every week. All arguments have been exchanged many times over anyway. Yes, GW2 combat can be extremely boring, but that has quite different reasons than a lack of trinity – which would make the battles even more boring. And stop selling that concept as “strategy”. It is cookie cutter builds, rotating cookie cutter abilities in a cookie cutter order, all memorized from doing the same raid many times over. There is rarely strategy in the trinity approach, knowing what to do beforehand to counter rigid AI behaviour is simply memorizaiton, nothing else.
You just explained the current state of GW2… no strategy.
The lack of trinity wouldn’t even bother me if I wasn’t pigeon holed into using 2 skills on my thief constantly and oh switch to shortbow for AoE to spam 1 button how exciting.
ANet didn’t just remove trinity, they removed ‘build wars’ which was what kept GW1 alive for so many years and still interesting to this day. They made these 2 major decisions without replacing them with anything of value.
Can you honestly tell me you’ll be enjoying your character in a few years with the same exact skills, same rotation, same everything? Hell I’m already bored of it… was bored on the first week. Then again, I DO come from GW1… a truly unique game.
The removal of trinity sounded good on paper, but in practice they didn’t replace it with anything. We’re all DPS, and combo fields, heals, etc. are not powerful enough to feel fun or make much of a difference. I don’t like being DPS 24/7. In the end you are dodging and avoiding most damage, imo it’s not as active or reactive, at least it doesn’t feel as so.
In the beginning it was “play your way” and now it’s “play our way” (ANets way)
Where’s the freedom to choose? What is SO bad about variety in the way we play? In the end we’re all carbon copies with slightly different mechanics, and if you aren’t doing damage you are failing because the design of the game.
I see people saying why should ANet copy all other MMO’s, well, they certainly didn’t have a problem with bringing massive grind and vertical progression over.
In the end, we wait for ESO for true freedom, and if they manage to mess things up I have honestly given up on MMO’s for probably the rest of my days. So tired of not being able to play my way, I’ve always wanted the freedom of a single player RPG in an MMO but for some reason that I can’t fathom devs REFUSE to give it to us.
Until now (hopefully)
Simple question: Why?
It’s so basic, and should be in every MMO.
You do get a clear indication of whether or not you’re hitting a stealthed target. If your 1 attack chain is progressing, you hit them. If it’s not, you didn’t. I have found this to be sufficient when fighting thieves as a thief myself.
If stealth needs a change, this isn’t it.
This times the force of a thousand suns.
Pvp is horrid in this game… not to mention dead. Any and all competitive pros already left and aren’t coming back until something is changed.
e-sports? what a distant memory that is.. you’ll never get e-sport in the current state of GW2. Not even close. First off, you need to make the pvp fun to get an active player base, along with actual balance.
And why can’t we earn money in spvp? We could in GW1.
This content needs a rework. Period. You should not have to abandon your current guild of friends, whom you have played with since GW, just so that you can be a nameless face in a huge guild to experience this. The Influence gain per event/dungeon is so minimal in relation to the influence cost to unlock these upgrades that it’s going to take months for some guilds unless they want to spend hard earned Gold on influence. By reading the posts here, once you abandon all the other upgrades in favour of unlocking the guild missions, you won’t be able to actually complete the content.
Just wanted to add my voice to the masses here.
They don’t seem to care, small guilds are just irrelevant.
In WoW when guild perks came out it was horrible for small guilds too. If you were a big guild, you got those perks pretty much instantly but a small guild took months to get them so everyone ended up joining the bigger guilds leaving small communities to die.
No one even makes new guilds anymore in that game… unless they want to be recruiting a bunch of low level alts who will probably never be dedicated to the guild and don’t want any of the important perks.
It’s sad how oblivious ANet is, they’re making all the same mistakes many others have before them.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Casuals shouldn’t be condemned to the open world and replaying story mode.
Condemned? It’s Open WORLD. It’s big, wide and rife with sights to explore and quests to complete. That’s like saying a free person is condemned from entering a high security prison and yet they can still go out and travel the whole world…oh and you could still enter the prison but not the places where the prisoners are kept.
It’s also not a place you get decent rewards. I did about 20 events yesterday just walking around randomly… got nothing but whites and blues, it felt really low and unrewarding. Rewards are CRAP in open world GW2. You need incentive to repeat the things you’ve already done, and there is zero incentive to. If you wanna make money, you are FORCED to run dungeons.
There is no way you can make as much in open world as you can running dungeons. If ANet drastically buffed general event awards all across the board maybe I wouldn’t be the only person soloing in the map 99% of the time… seriously it’s a freaking ghost town.
I love the new AC
Some encounters are a bit tough to pull off with pick up groups, but they are really good with an organized team. I think ANet did a good job with AC.
The best part is that now even pugs want to kill Kholer, because he’s easier
Kholer was never hard, the animation he does in preparation to shoot the pull wire was blatantly obvious. It is silly though how it’s a guarantee’d death if you get hit by it. Bravo to balance, typical ANet lazy design. That’s the crap that make people not enjoy the encounters and simply skip it.
Grind is very obvious, it’s things like ascended gear (stat progression) and legendary. Long goals that take forever to finish and tons of gold sinks, RNG. Massive, massive, RNG.
I think this entire game is a grind because the loot is so horrid. I like guarantee’d, or at least loot tables with a chance of a boss dropping a certain table of rare loot. Named equipment with special looks etc like GW1 had. I hate running dungeons and not knowing what the hell is going to drop, or what even has a chance of dropping then getting a bunch of blue trash from the end chests.
here’s why i’m getting tired:
1. total lack of class balance and no change for months—> 3 classes dominate in PVP and 3 classes dominate in PVE. the classes that are bad at PVP are also bad at PVE.
2. lack of any area for relaxed PVP —> you have ZvZ or TvT. no arenas or 1v1 areas.
3. ascended gear atrociousness —> here grind for 24 months to get your gear!
4. guild missions that exclude the majority of the population—> oh you have a small guild? too bad!
this game was awesome on release and then they just went about ruining it with mind boggling patch after mind boggling patch.
i really don’t see the logic behind any of it.
I feel ya, I don’t see the logic either. I think ANet is just a bunch of trolls now.
lol this game will never achieve e-sport but
I agree, immobilization bug still in the game (you get stuck when trying to move randomly) which happens in all area’s of the game, my death blossom STILL doesn’t make me dodge attacks, I use it when I’m out of energy and always, ALWAYS get hit still mid-blossom.
Idk it’s more of a joke really. No worries though, we’ll get more pvp maps with the same crappy boring mode, more pve content to make us all forget about the bugs… not.
Reminds me of MW3, they released a new map like every week but the game still sucked hard and imbalanced as hell.
Since it’s not a world wide festivity I dont see why they should. It’s just a very irish christian celebration that stretches to irish parts of america.
Personally, with the mythos around Saint Patrick, I dont see it fitting at all to celebrate this day in a worldwide multicultural game.
As a very strongly non-christian I would personally find it very offensive for such a celebration to take place, especially due to the story about St. Patrick driving the “snakes” from ireland. Aswell as the destruction of ancient celtic monuments.
Thats not something that should be celebrated.
You’re taking it too literally/seriously it’s just supposed to be a fun celebration, an excuse to party or wear green. GW1 also held events for things like year of the dragon.
I’m athiest and no holiday bothers me.
I doubt GW2 will take any events from GW other than christmas, halloween, etc. only major ones
We haven’t even one thing like double rare drops since GW2 was released.
Somehow GW2 made it not fun to collect loot, and it’s one of my favorite things to do in games.. it’s why I played Diablo 2 for 10 years. 99% of the things I get are straight vendor trash and if I ever do get an exotic or rare my character can’t use it.
I’m a legendary garbage man.
That would be far too convenient, must waste bag space with multiple tools.
I agree with you OP, more than you could ever know. It’s the biggest problem I have with the game, they took the role out of Rpg and just made everyone DPS. Combat is extreeeeemely repetitive, no variance to any degree unless you count gimping yourself (and your party) with a condition/support/tanky build. What I wouldn’t do to have my WoH monk in this game to actually add some fun engagement to combat.
Combo system is indeed a joke, the only decent finisher is splash heal and even that still heals for a tiny amount. With all the lazy instant kills and 2/3 health pool hits mobs do in this game I find it truly an insult that there are no healers. Sure you can simply dodge, but where’s the fun in that? This game revolves around you trying not to take damage, it’s simply less engaging. Removing healers dumbed down combat to a massive degree.
Not to mention we have access to what seems like 3 skills at any given time that are remotely useful, spamming the same 1 or 2 buttons 24/7. There is no forethought required when entering a zone or dungeon. Enter, zerg, win. I don’t even feel like I’m in a party, ever. Isn’t much team play until you need revived.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
They just have no clue how to design in the absence of a deep skill system. It just makes everything boring, bland, brain-dead, and arbitrarily frustrating to have to cooperate with your team, not inside the games inherent combat system parameters, but within a tacked on gimmick that adds nothing to gameplay.
Quoted for truth.. it’s why we have a ton of instagibs and lazy design, first I would suggest never going melee in this game. Even though I do half the time, it absolutely favors range 99.9% of the time. Melee in AC. LOL. No. Permaknockdown/instakill/etc etc. just horrible horrible design, it forces everyone ranged and makes the content even worse for those that actually enjoy melee.
Btw if you are having trouble ranged, idk what your problem is.
It’s sad that this game revolves completely around dailies.
I miss them constantly because, well, I have a life and am not always home.
WoW fixed this by letting us receive a maximum of a weeks worth of dailies (dungeon reward) so I could run 7 dungeons in 1 day and get all of the rewards instead of having to do it every. single. day. If I miss a few days, I could still catch up and don’t get left behind without those rewards.
Idk why ANet is still using such an ancient system, but it’s not fair to the players.. never has been. Only people who are on every day can keep up. Plus, daily should not be acc bound… obviously.
Totally not alt-friendly.
If a picture paints a thousand words, etc.
First picture: Trahearne when we first meet him.
Second picture: Trahearne at the end of our Personal Story.
LOL
Kormir 2.0
Not much else needs to be said. At least he didn’t become a friggin’ God after we did all the work… not to mention 90% of NPCs in your personal story are completely useless and you are doing ALL the killing, healing, etc.
…the HoM rewards are mediocre at best when you think about how many thousands of hours some loyal GW1 players put into that game. But that’s what we got and people who didn’t play the original didn’t get it. And that is the way it is.
If you really feel so strongly about this, pick up a copy of GW1 and earn your HoM skins, like the rest of us did.
I’m not questioning your dedication or claiming that anyone with these rewards didn’t “earn them.” But I guess I’m just wondering how far the fan service will go. I’m not exaggerating when I say that except for WvW and sPvP ahievements (kill 10000000 dudes etc. etc.) I actually have more GW1-related achievements left to complete than GW2 ones. I can easily-enough ignore the GW1 specific achievement tab and I think the title/weapon skin is a good idea as a nod to your dedication. I think the ranger pets thing takes it to an entirely new level though.
The ‘fan service’ stops immediately after HoM so you have nothing to worry about there, and if you’re a true completionist you will get GW1 and work for the other 4 pets. It’s a great game, sorry for your OCD.
Nothing is particularly hard, as long as you have a group that can dodge it’s just a walk in the park.
ANet judges difficulty by how many instagibs/permaknockdown/etc. they can throw in /cringe
I’d like more prolonged fights with mechanics other than “DPS that guy and don’t get hit!” to truly be challenged, but of course the rewards would be the exact same as CoF p1 so we all know what dungeon we would still be running.
Damage is too high all across the board imo. The magic of having no healers. What I wouldn’t do to have my WoH heal/prot monk in the game to actually make things interesting…
First, Thieves die in 2-3 hits so hitting them thrice will kill them even while they are stealthed.
Not everyone plays a glass cannon thief.
It’s really the only decent option. You won’t see condition thieves other than WvW.
It’s all ANets fault for killing off balanced (C&D nerf) I believe had a 33% damage reduction when plenty of thieves, including me, were running tanky BS builds that required a constant steady medium damage.
ANet WANTS us to run glass cannon, that or they just don’t have any freakin’ clue how to balance the real problem (burst), BS could have much utility to it, like an added cripple effect and a little reduced damage to compensate since they nerfed dancing dagger into oblivion, no thief will ever bother using 4 on D/D. Especially since crippled is such a joke condition with all the removals and dodge not being affected by it.
Add to the fact you can literally walk out of dancing daggers line of sight at ANY sort of range other than melee, it’s just a joke. Thief is all about burst, it’s how the current meta and design works. Pvp is extremely sloppy right now… we haven’t even had a change of meta in 6+ months, hell in GW1 meta changed constantly because the devs actually considered pvp one of the games selling points, but that’s all but been abandoned unfortunately.
DPS wars2
Grind? In GW2? It’s pretty kitten docile compared to the grind in 99% of other MMORPGs.
That’s simply not true lol. Grind is more or just as apparent in GW2 than any MMO I’ve played, and I’ve tried them all. Except for leveling, I’ll give them that.
Legendary/fractal/ascension
cmon. Least enjoyable vertical progression EVER. The thing is, I think ANet didn’t plan on vertical progression at first, so the game simply isn’t built for it, but then they randomly added legendary grind and ascended items in a game that wasn’t meant to have massive boring grinds.
That’s why legendary is horribly designed without story, questing, etc. and ascended was just thrown in because apparently every MMO needs vertical grind.
Stealth should have never made its way into GW, assassin was fine in GW1 with shadowsteps.
ANet just wants to be like every other typical MMO with a stealth class, personally combo attacks on my sin were 10x funner. I don’t even enjoy stealth as a mechanic myself, even though I main a thief.
I’d much prefer it just be removed from the game, avoiding all QQ and balance issues that comes with it… but we all know stealth wouldn’t just be removed, it should have never happened to begin with.
You might think culling will fix stealth but it won’t, you’ll still be dealing with thief being invisible 50% of the time or more. It’s bad design, but it isn’t going anywhere.
IMO, mesmers are even more screwed up with clones… I don’t even get bothered facing stealth. With the absolutely horrible targeting system in this game it’s sometimes impossible to target nearest player when spamming tab does nothing for me half the time, or clicking on a name targets the wrong target, or simply does nothing. Pvp shouldn’t be random confusion.
I feel like pretty heroic every time I enter a dungeon and hear “you’re the only good thief I’ve seen”
Just one of the many things ANet is totally oblivious to and doesn’t understand, a lot of people don’t like being a nameless face in a huge crowd, it’s why I was always in a small guild in GW1, and in GW2. They are my friends, family, even if they aren’t related, you build relationships with those people and they become important.
Everything should be on equal ground, whether you’re in a small or big guild. Scumbag ANet -_-
I heard the level cap will be over 9000
Culling isn’t just a bug, it’s more of a hardware issue plus internet latency.
If culling was simply “fixed”, most people would lag like crazy because their computers will not be strong enough to compensate. Only those with $1500 PCs would be able to run the game at all in large scale battles. This would give something EVERYONE would complain about. In order to not screw people with weaker PCs over, there is “culling”. This is why some people who run GW2 on an SSD with a powerful CPU do not really experience culling.
It’s like trying to run Far Cry 3 on a 2007 PC if culling was simply “switched off”.
Factor in internet latency, and it’ll be a big lagfest like the current world event situation in even smaller battles.
With the March update, I’m pretty sure a lot of people are going to start complaining about lag and low frame rates in even smaller battles. I’m almost sure of it.
I’m sorry, what?
I’m running an i5 2500k @ 4.6GHz with crossfired HD6950’s, 120GB SSD, 1080p resolution, 100Mb/s internet connection…
Culling, culling, culling like a motherkitten – PvE much worse than WvW.
I’ve tried all in-game graphics settings…Sure, culling may have been implemented to enable people with budget / old PC’s to play the game but we need an option to turn it off completely. If your framerate suffers, build a faster PC or turn culling back on or lower your settings or play some other game. I dont know how people can expect to play a 2012 title on a 2007 PC, anyway (not directed at you personally, just saying)
Oh, and btw, I have pretty much the same culling issues on my (2007) Q9550 + 8800GT PC… but at much lower frame rates.
4.6ghz on an i5? Eesh, with my ambient temp my computer would melt lol
Watercooling
Culling used to mostly be in WvW and to some extent major cities but after the patch I have literally seen entire groups of people disappear before my eyes then reappear seconds later, it’s terribly apparent now. I did the dwayna event the other day and seriously couldn’t even attack anything because they were completely invisible with some popping up here and there, including player characters.
This may have been going on earlier but I never noticed it THIS bad.
[opinion] If you’ve seen any of my posts on here you know I’m disgusted with GW2, and ANet. What really irks me is they don’t update GW1, you know, for GW1 fans that expected GW2 to be an extension of the original. No grind, blah blah, play the way you want, instead we got the exact opposite.
It’s not unfair to be angry or not trust the devs that have deceived us, and what’s even more sad is recently one of the devs said if we like GW1 we should be playing that instead, to which I replied… then why abandon the game, do you expect us to play in a ghost town because there are no updates or balance? Is it unfair to ask for some content in that game since this one obviously has a firm stance of not allowing anything GW into GW2?
I’ve accepted the direction this game is going, I disagree with it, I won’t tolerate it, what really gets to me is how oblivious ANet is nowadays. WoW2.0 times a thousand, this game surpasses any Korean grind imaginable. It spits in the face of the GW franchise, especially with the lack of decent pvp.[/endopinion]
There, could you not delete my posts for once?
They only track damage, this is a DPS game.
Are you serious ?…really, im asking, is this true ?
Yes, it’s true.
They only track damage, this is a DPS game.
You can’t reliably reference GW1, so far they’ve ignored everything from it
I doubt any other proffs will be added but if they did, it would suck unless it’s a healer.
Remember when we thought this game would be a proper sequel to Guild Wars?
Wouldn’t be the same unless they had meteor shower.
Who in their right mind would spend gold on a set of exotics now? Yeah it was easy – because we weren’t garbage collectors before the november update that made all loot trash. I also bought my first exotic set quite quickly, but doing the pve, actually doing dungeons, takes a billion times longer than in WoW.
Be my guest if you wanna buy ecto’s into todays market… If you can afford multiple full exotic sets you are either a lucky dungeon exploiter from early on, no lifer, or TP exploiter. Me personally I like to play the actual game without being poor constantly, and that means grinding dungeons forever in GW2.
So I need to reroll an alt and do map completion to make enough gold to buy more sets? Lol what? I only play one character I shouldn’t be forced to do that.
There is a problem when you can gear up in WoW 50x faster than you can get full exotics in GW2.
For a game that isn’t supposed to have grind it sure has the most I’ve ever seen. So… from what I’ve gathered in the replies in this thread, as long as the journey isn’t difficult it’s considered casual? So even if it takes you months to get exotics that’s casual? Lol.
In trying to make SPVP balanced and an esport, our skill bars are small, dull and boring. The sad thing is that there’s like 12 people playing SPVP.
True that. Wake up and give us a tiny fraction of what we had in GW1.
Loot is crap, stat system is crap, grind is crap, skills are crap and incredibly repetitive, there are no rotations or procs (If we’re going to be using the same 2 skills 24/7, you may as well make it interesting), combo system is crap, pve is uninteresting and defiled with 1hit kill instagibs, dodge is designed horribly, no healers, no end-game, forced to be DPS, still no GW in the game.
You tell me if it’ll last.
Run a dungeon 3+ times and get nothing of value, working as intended unfortunately. It’s DR.
So ANet are just NCsofts lapdog? Sounds about right… hey ANet, add grind that surpasses even our korean MMO’s, hire some nexon employee’s to help design your gem store, oh and you know that whole diverse theme thing you had doing? Yeah, just remove that.
I was under the impression game publishers only fund and critique development, not actually control it. Why wouldn’t they fight for something this big? It’s not like NCsoft would have dropped GW2… it was way too big.
I wonder what else they messed up, and how much was actually ANet. I wonder if they even know how disconnected GW1 players feel in this game.
Their response is pretty much: “You’re wrong. Our data does not show what the entirety of GW2’s population is experiencing.”
But no it’s always been this way..
I think getting rid of Cantha and Elona is a major slap in the face of all Guild Wars fans and veterans. I don’t know but after hearing this I feel like GW2 has lost some of its charm and magic for me…. I was really looking forward to Cantha and Elona in future expansions, and who knows what we will see in this year’s expansion – not Elona and Cantha apparently…
I still hope they change their decision. And soon.
I doubt they will, everything in GW2 is a slap in the face to GW fans not just the fact that they won’t be adding Cantha or Elona, and Cantha was my favorite part of GW.
I only saw this thread about a month ago and honestly – nothing surprises me now, not if it comes from ANet. Truly sad, but not surprising.
^I swear often in real life, so my RP equivalent is not a far fetch, plus my first point was keep it to whispers so he don’t get banned because RP is not supported here.
Keep your RP to party chat, as ANet does not support it in any way.
love to see RPers but unfortunately they are not common here.
It’s not supported in the sense that there is no official server for it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it outside of party chat.
I’m not even on one of the unofficial RP servers and I’ve seen people RPing in both local and map chat. (Although it is much rarer outside of those servers.)
There are also bannings for mature RP which is tolerated on WoW official RP servers, where I used to RP which is why I said it is not supported by ANet in any way. I mean, a triple A MMO in 2013 with no RP servers lol who woulda thunk right? Idk.
GW2 tries to be a full fledged MMO yet it misses a ton of components.
Just a heads up you’ll never get a patch worth 5g that is ridiculous in size. Most is like 30-50mb or so in my MMO experience. 5g is even bigger than an expansion I reckon.
MW3 has a 14GB patch to do, Total War has a 27GB patch etc etc.
Anyway if you guys can give me a definite number that would be great.
As for the 20% exp that means I should go back and get 100% completion in each area on my alt instead of just doing hearts :p
Lol no.
You’re probably talking about map packs? MW3 adds them like, idk, weekly? As a way to mask their horrible game they keep adding terrible maps, I wasn’t talking total. That’s not really fair, is it? In general patches are upwards of 80mb and lower of 15-30
Not to mention you’re comparing MMO to FPS rofl.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Sure, a convenience buff… good enough? Not imo. I often waste my opponents dodges before even attempting a steal stun because it’s so obvious and commonly used it gets dodged 90% of the time if you open with it. Honestly these “buffs” don’t affect me at all.
Now that’s the spirit! xD
Yes they did :
The charges are actually no longer reduced if you receive a ‘Miss’ notification or are just swinging your weapon out of range. They’re still removed if you’re blocked/evaded/obstructed (combat misses, essentially). They also used to remove if they were on a projectile that lasted too long, or on non-attack skills such as Caltrops or Smoke Bomb. All in all, venoms and other charge-based attack bonuses have been improved and made much more reliable.
-KarlFor example, Shortbow + Basilisk Venom with the trait for 2 charges on a target far away = often you’d get no effect at all.
I’m fully aware of the changes xD
still useless venoms, save for basilisk of course (as stated multiple times)
conditions are a joke in both pve and pvp, pve because they’re under powered, pvp because they are removed with lol no effort at all let’s face it.
They got buffed immensely in fact.
Now that’s the spirit! xD
edit; I know you weren’t being sarcastic, and that ooh big whoop venoms don’t disappear now from being out of range – yet that’s how they were to begin with (never should have changed.) and are still incredibly underpowered, save for basilisk in pvp.
