I found my first exotic off a mob at month 3.
The only 1 I ever found.
I agree on most parts but:
Hearts are actually worse than quests imo, dynamic events are good though. I much more enjoy questing (hearts) in GW1/WoW.
I’m interested in why you think this. I can see no possible reason that anyone would think Hearts are worse than WoW quests.
Cheers.
Because in WoW I can actually accept and turn in a quest collecting rewards ranging from weapons, armor, gold, and reputation that gets me access to unique pets, mounts, and gear. I don’t like the karma system in GW2, and the hearts just magically showing up and getting completed without so much of a turn in takes away from the experience for me.
I like conventional quests and events, but hearts are just a dumbed down version of conventional quests. Oh sure, I can ‘choose’ to either fix some traps or kill mobs but honestly I just go for the fastest route on any heart to get completed because they all have crappy rewards and are boring. The ‘choices’ it gives you aren’t anything revolutionary lol.
Every WoW quest opens up with a story and a reason why you are doing what you are doing.
The cursor does indeed disappear, it is not a focus problem. The tab targetting is so bad honestly I just clicked my targets instead.
What I find most sad is that I logged in yesterday and the immobilize glitch that has been in the game since beta, is STILL IN THE GAME lol what???
This is a major issue especially in pvp and it’s been 6 months? Really? it happened almost immediately after logging in, too. Of course my friends list was dead and everyone has quit so I logged out in disgust and played tera instead, getting back into that game, it does action combat correctly.
I will shelve this game indefinitely if i feel the same 6 months from now. I waited 6 years playing GW1 for this game to come out and it’s nothing alike. The combat system is like fisher price – grade. I want my monk back!
Haha.. I was just making a post about monks in another thread. I feel you, seriously.
Haha.. I was just making a post about monks in another thread. I feel you, seriously. And you are better off ignoring all the NPC in you personal story because yes, they mostly just stand there and be lame. If you ever thought GW1 AI was bad, you’re in for a real treat. They’re also incredibly weak, it’s basically just solo missions.
Trinity or no trinity, I loved healing. It was dumb for them to remove dedicated healers, they lost out on a lot of potential players that play heals exclusively. You are forced to DPS in GW2, no matter what role you want to play making the trinity nothing but a bunch of DPS. Isn’t this going backwards, not forwards? If anything they should have expanded on the trinity, not butcher it.
It’s sad because monks in GW1 were like an icon class then they just remove them along with any type of real healing in the game? WTH?
If the game is dead, why check the forums again? Is an update going to convince you to keep playing?
I hope so, yes, though I do not expect it will. I still check in here every week or two to see if there’s info on these “big changes”. Enjoy your game!
Just curious.
Maybe play gw1 still? It seems like it’s gaining steam again from gw2 users who don’t like the new game! I hear a bunch of ppl talk about going back to gw1
Yeah but the best parts HA and GvG is dead, sure if you wanna pve GW1 is still fine but I was always an HA junkie. ANet abandoned the game for GW2 so you can’t really blame the players for it being dead with no updates.
Just saying, that’s why most people don’t play GW1 anymore.
I do still play, but it’s not the same.
I personally can’t wait for the players who would insult anyone who perfers the trinity as “unskilled.” I dare you to go up to a top 100 WoW raiding guild and say that.
The problem with using WoW raids as a base to determine skill is that they’re nothing more than scripted events. When a new raid is made, the “top” guilds get to beta test the raid. They’re also given the script on how to fight that particular fight. Tanks do this, dps avoid that, etc. Once they’ve mastered the script, they create videos to tell the rest of the community exactly how to do the fight. The only skill they really have is skill at following a script. When I was playing (pre-Cata), tanking was going to the right place and doing my 9-6-9 rotation, occasionally using a taunt if an add broke loose or whatever. At predetermined (and loudly alarmed) moments I may need to add in an additional mitigation skill… that was pretty much it. On my hunter, go there, start rotation. Alarm sounds, next line in the script.
That’s what I like about the GW2 system instead… scripts are tossed out the window. You’re free to deal with the encounters as you see fit, and there are a myriad amount of ways to do so. I do what needs to be done, not what the script tells me I need to do next.
Lol so you think GW2 doesn’t have scripted fights, that’s cute.
Anyway let’s see your 25m heroic raid boss kills since, after all, all you need to get them is following a simple scripted fight.
Don’t get confused because your team carried you through a normal 10man

out of curiosity why is this game called guild wars 2 ? because thus far, there has been no wars of the guilds in this game, I dissapoint, i want my E- peen to shine through dominating other guilds, BUT U DONT LET ME, will there be some sort of guild activity in GUILD WARS 2 ? ~hit me up just to chat, your biggest fan, this is stan
Dear Stan, I meant to write you sooner but I just been busy, we all want GvG.
Combat may be ‘fun’ or rather, active but it IS boring with extremely limited skills.. can’t deny that.
I do not agree on the premise that I actually use all 10 skills on my bar plus profession mechanic skills, alternate weapon kit, forms and the like. All of those skills have a use in the correct situation.
Compare to any other MMO where you just spam fireball. Oh yea there’s an optimal routine, but just spamming fireball gets you everywhere. WoW fans called GW1 the 8-skill game. The sad fact being that WoW is pretty much a 1-skill game regardless of how cluttered your screen is.
You’re wrong and obviously don’t play WoW, so I won’t bother commenting there.
I wasn’t talking about how many skills we use at a time, I am talking about variety. Builds, true customization, there is none. I am a WoW player and I never called GW1 the ‘8 skill game’ lol… moar generalizations please. You’re just like those players since you bag on a game you have never even played. Oh you can just simply spam fireball? Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that next time I log in to do a raid on my mage lol.
GW2 skills are extremely limited. Has nothing to do with the amount of skills you have on your bar. I mean honestly, we can’t even move skills around on our bar??? How ridiculous.
I just feel required on this and i did play WoW. In WoW every class had 3 optimal build, with very limited to non possibility to variate them if you where playing pve. So one build for every talent tree a class had. And every role you could play did use 1 or 2 skill most by far, 3 to 5 you used on a regular base, 1 to 3 you did use on regular base at specif tactics and all other skill where almost not to never. So i don’t count more skills as you use in GW2, only difference in wow you did not have to chose what to put in your skill bar, you just did bound all. And the pvp build where more or less variations on the standard pve builds. In GW2 you can build a pve character in way more ways, you can build support, control, glass cannon damage, tanky support, supportive control, tanky damage dealer, damage dealer with a supportive edge,….., ect. I think the essence is clear. And if you think skills are to limited try a ele or engi, i can get both above 40 skills they can use without a change of weapon. And about the fact you can come arround with only fireball spam is in WoW is also not treu. So i think people should not start the generalization. I don’t know how WoW is now since i did quit it during patch 4.2 (firelands), so I’m talking about how it was when I was playing just before i stopped playing it. It might have change allot due to MoP since they change allot about classes every new version.
It actually has changed a lot since hybrids are sort of making their way back into the game (dps healing, etc.) but I never even mentioned skills in WoW, and still it has a ton of skills to play with, my rogue for instance can start fights in way more ways than my thief can.
In WoW it all depends if I want to get my self healing up immediately or go straight for dps, or both for a long fight, then my dps buffs and debuffs come into play which are also situational, do I want burst or dot? Am I going to spend most of my time on my target or chasing it? All of these things I think when I am playing rogue. Is this a caster or melee target? Ok, either CC with silence or disarm my targets weapon or stun.
In GW2 I just autoattack pretty much, I mean what else is there? There is almost zero thought that goes into attacking a target. I go in, burst, get out if I’m taking damage and begin faceroll on my shortbow.
in GW1 it was all about paying attention to your surroundings. What is going on, who is taking damage, ok need to peel or heal/prot, in pve you pull mobs and watch for patrols. GW2 mobs hardly have patrols and the ones that do I’ve noticed don’t even stop when I attack them, like they are going to make their destination no matter what.
There is ZERO strategy in this game, is my point. I’m not even sure more skills would fix this game, but it would certainly be less boring with more variety, and definitely it won’t matter if we can never customize our skill bar.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
I am not good with drop rates specifics when it comes to math so, just make the drop rate of rares close to what it was in GW1. They are worth more being able to salvage ecto so… something CLOSE to that drop rate.
I didn’t see my first exotic until 3 months into the game, no lie. And I’m not counting the one I got out of the halloween jumping puzzle, which was useless and I couldn’t even salvage by the way lol…. what an amazing reward, as always compliments of ANet loot team.
The effort you put in just to get nothing is ridiculous. Oh I solo’d a champ, cool wasted a bunch of time for nothing. Loot scaling yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
Guarantee’d drops on elite mobs/bosses is a must with the abysmal rates in the game, that is, if you want anyone to actually feel rewarded for what they do.
Combat may be ‘fun’ or rather, active but it IS boring with extremely limited skills.. can’t deny that.

I agree on most parts but:
Hearts are actually worse than quests imo, dynamic events are good though. I much more enjoy questing (hearts) in GW1/WoW.
Dungeons are easy, just range faceroll your way to the end and like you said afk on the boss. Don’t even bother trying melee, it’s obvious every fight in the game is favored for ranged, and don’t tell me that melee gets more DPS lol that is complete crap when you are having to dodge and position yourself constantly.
It’s pretty clear to me they didn’t think at all on both range and melee vs boss mechanics or any other mob for that matter. Range is almost always 100% safe while melee is in too much crap. WoW raids are designed that everyone takes damage from attacks, this is how every single boss should be in GW2 as well so EVERYONE has to put in the same effort to dodge and avoid damage.
Improved looting system? I much prefer the old system over the one we have now, with no drops ever. It basically equates to the old system but even worse, because in the end even though you are getting loot, you really aren’t. With all the drops I get in GW2, I actually make more in WoW by a long shot even though I share drop chance and mob tags with everyone else. We’re actually rewarded less, even though we ‘get’ more. Loot needs to be adjusted asap.
Funny you mention kane and lynch, I would say this game was a better investment than FF13 but other than that a huge disappointment. At least I managed to get to the end of this game, FF13… not so much.
Oh I almost forgot to mention DR, it is obvious this system was meant for players and not bots since any logical thinking human being would know that a system like this will just have botters programming around the system, just like realm down in D2.
It needs to be removed, however it won’t be because it’s ANets absolute horrible version of raid lock. It’s basically a “stop playing now.” mechanic.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
“It’s not about loot” points at fractals
Don’t lie to yourself, this so called MMO isn’t any different than the other grinders with one exception, drops are complete crap.
At least I feel progression in WoW and that makes you forget about the grind because you’re having fun while doing it.
Why even bother when you aren’t being rewarded? MMO are always about loot, always have been always will be. GW1 was all about ‘da lootz’ too, except rares dropped quite frequently in comparison to GW2 and we didn’t have none of this stat system crap, it was on a very minor scale.
Why do we need green/blue they are useless merchant fodder… so this was there plan? Add a bunch of useless gear that is literally meant to be sold to a merchant, and have abysmal drops on anything actually usable?
Why scrap a great loot system for the one we got now? I prefer GW1 system a billion times over this one, where I wasn’t spending half my play time at a merchant selling off all my useless crap I find because that’s the only reliable way to make money in this game unless I wanna sit in LA and ‘play the market’, or so I’m told.
Soooo many ways to make money in GW1 from running to carrying people through missions to dungeon clearing to VQ to trading, you know where you could actually haggle, still don’t see why the hell they removed trading it’s like going backwards not forwards in MMO development.
Combat may be ‘fun’ or rather, active but it IS boring with extremely limited skills.. can’t deny that.
On our goals for 2013 will be evaluating all of the bosses and creatures in the game, from open world to dungeons, to try and make them more exciting and fun to fight against.
In general if anything has a really high health pool, it needs to have unique abilities to make it exciting for the entire time, or actually change abilities/tactics as it goes down in health to ensure it stays fun and exciting to fight against.
We realize there are a number of bosses in the game, from the open world to instances that all can be more fun to fight than they are now. We’ll be tackling that this year in part of our goal to make our core game as strong as possible.
Even Colin is having lag issues on the website. Double post ftw
Take points from WoW, make all bosses have phases with unique abilities and functions at certain health % maybe even enrage timers, no wp zerg rushing should be allowed in ANY dungeon. Because with the boring skill system we need absolutely amazing fights to keep it fun.
More team work, buff a lot of the combo fields dramatically or make it that they are actually REQUIRED in some fights or at least heavily influence a fight other than moar deepz. Let combo fields be able to chain off each other to make even more powerful effects. Stray away from this pure-DPS trinity you have going on, it’s lame.
Let us heal
Anything to make combat engaging.
In GW1 costumes were actually useful because you could combat in them. Gone are the days of logical ANet.
My favorite is pink/purple
which sadly none of the classes I ever play, have. (other than armor color)
I know people that have /played times bigger than my GW1 played which is quite sad tbh since I’ve played that for over 5 years, consistently too… lol, I’m hoping a lot of people have afk hours otherwise they are pretty much on 24/7 which isn’t healthy.
Oh btw GW2 is the worst purchase I’ve ever made right next to MW2/3
well I’ve learned my lesson on both franchises though. I guess in the end every company has to ruin the great things about their games, why? I have no clue. oh yea.. money.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Hearts are your typical quests and yes those are for every individual player. Events are what you can take part of with a party, or with anyone outside of your party. To do missions together you just have your husband in your group or vice versa when one of you enters the missions he/you will be prompted to enter as well and help out. Missions are different from hearts and events, they tie to your characters personal story line.
Events pop up all around the world just run around and you will find them.
You don’t need to play the same race to play together, you just need to complete the ‘tutorial’ in the beginning and go to lions arch and from there you have access to portals leading to any races main city.
Needless to say it’s pretty confusing in the beginning, but once you figure out where all the portals are it’s easy.
You don’t really need to time dodges, just spam it at random intervals like everyone else does.
Put the signet build on your warrior (google is your friend) I hear it’s easy to pvestomp with.
I get you point but honestly if you are having a hard time with warrior then nothing is going to save you a headache except a ranger. They can reach a 1500 range, literally faceroll insanity. You can even go glass cannon on them and never die, in fact I see no other logical way to gear the ranger, just never go near enemies and your pet will tank for you.
GW2 is anti-melee, you must be quick at twitch reactions to animations or play a guardian to survive. If you are talking about pvp well I have no tips there it is horribly unbalanced and a waste of time unless you enjoy being stressed out by bugs glitches and overpowered glass cannons.
This game is pure grind, I think what you mean is the lack of rewards for grinding kills this game for you.
When we are at it-when did Colin join ANet? He is not in the Faction credits. Maybe when work on GW2 started? Cuz I sure as hell don’t remember him from GW1-he just jumped out of nowhere and started talking nonsense. “We took everything you loved about GW1 and made it 3x better”-how would you know that Colin? Hell, I started playing before you arrived(at least I think so).
On topic: I feel GW1 within GW2. Faintly, but it is there. Sadly, it feels Like today’s ANet is totally different ANet from the GW1 heyday. Shame…
Who are the GW1 devs who are still there? Jon Peters?
Basically no one, if that wasn’t blatantly apparent.
The suggestion of raids is a very uncreative solution to the lack of epic PvE content. Just as criticizing the lack of the trinity in the game. The trinity is a crutch in MMO’s that has been used to death and desperately needs to be retired. This genre in general was growing very stale about 5 years ago.
I like alot of Arenanets idea’s they use in GW2 but simular to GW1 alot of idea’s just are not implemented will.
Just a suggestion off the top of my head. Five man dungeons that involve one epic boss fight with a boss the size of the current dragons or bigger and included checkpoints that save your progress from one phase to another. Remember Chronos in God of War 3. Something like that. Notice the lack of tanks and healers. Shadow of the Colossus is another game thats good to emulate for epic boss fights.
The fight could run for 40 mins with 10 phases that include the boss fight, add fights and just plain navagation around the area but is all focased on this one guy your fighting.
My point of this is an MMORPG should provide the most EPIC PvE content in video games and what get is extremely mundane. The boss fights in GW2 don’t even stack up against WoW and its fights from 5 years ago.
Though I do like Fractals alot and it is a more of what my expectations where when I bought GW2 . The MMO genre however is radically going to have to change its format if its going to survive in the future and raids and the holy trinity is not the answer. Just go check out SWTOR.
Actually you’re wrong about one thing, the future of MMO’s is letting everyone tank or heal or dps. The trinity is a great system and it’s basically infallible, nothing has ever been made to top this system. And nothing ever will be. It’s what the entire foundation of MMO gaming was built off of.
It’s fun, no idea why people hate on it so much, the horrible part about it is devs just loooove to pigeon hole you into playing a certain class just so you can play those roles. However, if we were all allowed to choose to play any of those roles on any class while having a decent aggro system that would be the ideal MMO that everyone flocks to.
Watch, ESO is gonna be a huge hit. I also want to point out just how not the trinity has evolved, but the fights that people are making nowadays. In WoW there are multiple fights, in fact most of them require everyone to contribute the party in ways that have nothing to do with DPS. Whether that is kiting, CC, offhealing, offtanking, etc.
The trinity is fine. It should have never been messed with. It’s simply a lazy design what ANet have done because now they don’t have to make interesting fights or mobs.
Thats funny. Every other profession bores me. Only 2 weapon sets and less than 4 profession skills.
What they should do is build every profession like the Elementalist and give them 4 weapon sets and 4 profession skills.
Man(woman?) of the hour here.
Every proff except the Ele is truly boring as all hell but I just don’t enjoy playing mage classes really although the Ele wasn’t bad because she has D/D which is OP as hell btw.
I think it’s funny because most people that play the profession seem to cry a lot on the forums just how weak and useless they are/were/have been since release when it’s quite the opposite.
I also think it’s funny how long it took the community to catch on how OP D/D is in both pvp and pve, you are basically unkillable most the time.
Raids would suck in GW2, there is no trinity. It’s just more zerg & chaos, what would be the point? Just adding more players doesn’t make it a raid.
What are you talking about man, we almost get 2 silver per lvl80 event. TWO! That’s like, omg major reward right there.
Vote GW2 best rewards in video game history
Haha.
In conventional MMO’s it’s raids of course, what kinda question is this
It’s funny because ANet is failing so hard for things that have already happened multiple times in the past. It’s not only warhammer all over again but D3 with their RMAH.
They just don’t learn.
Oh, wagers. Yeah that would be awesome… sorry for confusion.
Even better if you could put items like you said, anything you want, it would help guild community tremendously for holding competitive events.
But still, only one version of GvG will make it in. And this wouldn’t be ‘e-sports’ enough to win vs the original GvG.
Since they have made it obvious they don’t want to add a lot of modes, only one is going to make it in, and it WILL be competitive and as balanced as possible. (whatever that means… balance in this game is w/e) so even though this sounds cool it would never make it unless your wager idea made its way in for a non tournament version like how spvp has hotjoin and tourny parties.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
So, a deathmatch type GvG?
I’m not clear if you know that a form of GvG already exists from GW1
I’m well aware of that, which is why I called it an interesting twist to GvG.
I do know that GW2 can have more than one way to GvG, don’t you? They can definitely bring back the previous modes, but I thought this might make a fun addition to those ones.
Well challenging a guild to a battle is nothing new so that would be a given, that’s why I wasn’t sure… maybe you should be more specific and simply put deathmatch GvG
Izzy said they don’t want to add more pvp modes because wahhh they are too hard to add content to so I doubt anything more than one mode would be in the game.
GW1 had Elo ranking system for GvG but it’s pretty useless for any format currently in GW2. I doubt a ladder would make people play spvp more, maybe a few competes but not much.
There needs to be a better format first. An arena with LoS would be a good start, take any WoW arena as a great example. Or you know…. GvG……………………
Do you REALLY think that someone out there is spending that much on a legendary weapon? I highly doubt it. And if there is someone spending that much on a legendary, I feel bad for him.
People already have…people spend thousands of $$$ in the RMAH in D3, $2500 to save 100’s and 100’s of hours of their free time is nothing to more people than you think.
This.
My time is much more valuable than the money.
I guess gaming is becoming a rich mans sport.
It really always has been, some people in certain online games buy entire planets for millions of real life cash… it’s crazy. You just don’t hear about it much because those games are pretty much based around pure economy.
Those books give you like, 1-2 sentences worth of lore… lol
So, a deathmatch type GvG?
I’m not clear if you know that a form of GvG already exists from GW1
The most important thing imao,is total rewamp of gameplay, skills bar, weapons skills numbers and weapons customisation of each char.
You can add more and more stuff to do, its already boring to do something over and over with same skills/traits,and rarely change your gameplay style, because its useless.
When i open gw1 and see 300skills per char, and come back to gw2 with 30 skills, i want to cry…
Umm… pardon?
Guardian= 102 skills available
Warrior = 119 skills
Engineer = 124 skills
Ranger = 144
Thief = 110
Elementalist = 146
Mesmer = 89
Necromancer = 93There are plenty of skills in the game, especially for the core game. You forget, that three-hundred skill deep pool was built up over three expansion campaigns, each class in GW1 only had about fifty skills available upon release of the core game.
What they really need to do is make it so people can switch their builds around without going to town and paying a fee, and revamp the trait system so that you don’t feel cheated out of the build you want because so many completely different build options occupy a single trait tree.
After leaving pre you had 200+ skills to play with once you unlock them, which was actually a journey. Elites didn’t suck too.
You know what the person you quoted was implying but let me spell it out for you. There was customization with skills in GW1.
I see no reason to defend this crap, wouldn’t you like to be able to customize your build?
I honestly don’t believe my thief has 100+ skills because it really feels like 20, at best.
You mean the dungeons story? Those have level requirements and are very far apart, plus you need a group for them and they don’t start until lvl 30. Like I said, disjointed.
Nothing compared to GW1 lore either. In between missions you could talk to NPC that further went into the lore, you got waaaaay more than in GW2.
Not to mention the lore tablets you would find in certain missions depicting stories.
Didn’t you hear? They stopped botting with DR! Oh wait, that was their playerbase not the bots.
I know what you mean OP, GW1 had a story that was very connected and made sense, would actually carry you through the game without a level requirement to follow the story if you wanted.
GW2 story is VERY disjointed and sloppy at best, the scenes are meh. Cinematics from GW1 were far more interesting and got you into the story more.
It won’t pick up for you in GW2 until about lvl 40 I believe. When trehearn actually mentions GW1 lore (WOW, FINALLY!) and speaks a tad bit about the Guild Wars. Then, it goes dead again.
It really doesn’t change much through out the entire game so don’t expect anything special.
Mike O’Brien: “….If you love MMOs, you’ll want to check out Guild Wars 2, and if you hate MMOs, you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and puts it into a persistent world that’s got more active combat, a fully-branching, personalized storyline, a new event system to get people playing together, and still no monthly fees.”
Other than the monthly fees part, GW2 is absolutely nothing like Original GW. GW2 is a lot similar AION. Most importantly, GW1 did not have a cash shop. GW2 has Black Lion whereas AION has Black Cloud. Both are NCSoft games.
Today the game design somehow has to incorporate elements that promote a cash shop directly or indirectly. In GW, it was not a problem. They designed to foster gaming and not to boost sales of insta repair kits or black lion salvage kits.
How does my hero feel after playing GW2? Every night, after finishing dungeon runs, she feels like a garbage collector. Her truck is loaded up with garbage (vendor trash) that she can unload at a center nearby to get make money. Does she go toe to toe against that not-so-fearsome mob for “Ooh! Shiny!!”? No. She merely runs the dungeons and prays for mostly greens instead of boatload of white salvage fodder. Exotics? Ohforgetaboutit!!
I have stopped displaying “Champion of the Gods” title. I humbly request ANET to introduce “Garbage Collector of Tyria” title track. It will be more appropriate as GW2 players are indeed doing exactly that. Collecting garbage to make money by doing same things over and over and over again.
Hahaha oh so true. Seriously, go play GW1 for like an hour. Do a few missions in HM you will come out with multiple rares, purples, salvagable useful mods, gold, chests to open with lockpicks for plenty more rares, and finally a reward for finishing the missions. Not to mention dungeons, and this is in a full 8person party where you share drop chance with everyone.
It’s true, you are a legendary garbage collector in GW2.
Meh, Izzy’s contribution to GW1 never amazed me, all those questionable skill balance changes, I almost died when I heard he became lead designer for GW2. But now I’ve come to not expect much from him or Arenanet anymore anyways.
What do you mean, Izzy’s skill balances were top notch and he listened to community feedback!
sarcasm
I was also very sketchy but I had no idea they would only have 2, yes TWO people working on balancing skills. Do they even have a test krewe anymore? Lol I doubt it.
I’ll be honest I don’t know what the normal amount is for a balance team but 2 seems way too small. 5 at least to collaborate idea’s and bounce off each other then having a test krewe try the changes and give feedback but no all we’ve seen so far is kneejerk nerfs.
Man they have really gone down hill. Don’t get me wrong, GW1 had its fair share of WTH moments, but I expected much more with a bigger team this time around.
So far they have ignored balance completely. I can hear it now, the faint whispers of e-sports, lawl gimme a break. Even WITH skill balance you will never balance a game where you can just loldodge out of everything and no healers… bunkers… ugh not even gonna rant right now.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
It’s completely pointless because other than traits there is no sense of progression.
I guess more traits would help even more to 1hit kids in pvp. Yay for balance.
What did ANet say to the community?
Nothing. LOL!
Yep, don’t even bother reading honestly. The answers are more disappointing than anything and it truly shows just how far back they are in development. Pretty much nothing noteworthy is even in the works atm.
This one specifically made me laugh, and cry at the same time. How stupid can they be?
Mainly one of the big issues we wanted to avoid with Guild Wars 2 was creating too many games types, which leads to a fragmented player base and adds a lot of complexity when balancing. This tends to lead to many game-types being left out as it’s impossible to develop new content and features for all of them in a timely manner.
Which was a response to this
Certain PvP game types in the original Guild Wars, like Heroes’ Ascent and GvG, were favorites amongst PvP players. Can you discuss why these game types did not make it into Guild Wars 2?
So… they don’t even want to add more game types? Awesome. Looks like GW2 will never get decent pvp, sorry guys! Again they are focusing too much on content because they made their silly game too boring with zero skill and build diversity.
Look at WoW and how long WSG and AB have lasted with no content updates, YEARS.
Look at GW1 and how long RA/AB/TA/FA/JQ/HA/GvG lasted with no content updates, YEARS. Until of course ANet removed TA for no apparent reason kitten a lot of the community off and adding lolcodex possibly the worst arena ever to be seen in a video game.
Enjoy your crappy pve because that’s all that is in store from the looks of it.
Edited for clarification: They are focusing on the wrong content (thinking they have to regularly update a BG/arena) as long as it is working fine with no major issues, let us do the rest.
I want old ANet back.

Neverwinter has no PvP, only Lore. So it’s not a real MMORPG. Elder Scrolls has almost the same problem, PvP system is GW2 like. Here or there, it’s the same.
How do you know, all that’s been announced is one pvp area which is like WvW but I’m sure there will be an arena (like in oblivion) at least I would hope.
Also I’m sure they will actually optimize their game for all video cards so large scale combat is possible for everyone, I’m all for that!
And pvp will be nothing like in GW2 because there is trinity.
Elder Scrolls online and Neverwinter for me.
We’ll wait and see, either or both could be a disaster, or serious competition for GW2.
Let’s be honest, nothing needs to compete with GW2.
I am going with ESO, I so hope that doesn’t fail. The freedom to truly tank heal or dps and no fail trying to remove trinity. <3 sounds amazing.
If GW2 was the best MMORPG on the market, it would have ton more players. It only has 1 dungeon for end-game, woooow what an amazing game so much to do, here I think I’ll go farm and do events for zero rewards. nah…
Oh here I think I’ll try pvp… oh wait everyone is a vanilla WoW rogue, nevermind.
hmm ok let’s do some WvW “10FPS” ahmaghaaaaaaad
Alright, here is something to think about, I run a shout warrior with 1700 toughness. I used to always use an axe and shield but due to other regulars I run with having support skills also I can keep the great sword out. My guardian has 1200 healing and is specced around buffing everyone. We encourage teamwork and everyone bringing something to the team in dungeon.
So my problem is we are constantly bouncing off the diminishing returns cap. Having to take 30-60 minute breaks to prevent DR. With supportive builds we clear COF path one in under 9 minutes.
So what point is there in going any faster than this. Do people go oh 9 minutes COF is terrible, you could do it 7 mins with pure glass builds, is there really a benefit to hitting the 5 dungeon cap in 35 minutes instead of 45 minutes.
Just one more reason to play GW2! wait….
Jokes aside, I’ve been saying this since day 1. DR is literally a “DON’T PLAY OUR GAME LOL!” mechanic that doesn’t affect bots at all. Since bots are not on a time schedule nor do they really care about reduce drops, they will always find a way around things like this.
Think: D2 realm down, in diablo you could only run 20 games within an hour, and they had to be 3 minutes long. Can you guess what happened? People configured their bots not to exceed these parameters and it only affected the human player base.
ANet (I would hope) aren’t so stupid they wouldn’t have known this was going to happen, so one can only assume that DR is intentional to limit your play time by eventually making loot trivial. Not only is this mechanic incredibly stupid and a huge slap to our faces, but it comes into effect incredibly fast.
And I thought raid-lock in WoW bothered me. Lol, not even. This game is ridiculous. It doesn’t even want you to play it.
Everything of course but mostly skills and variety. The ability to entertain ourselves for years even without constant updates.
The only thing I didn’t like about GW1 is that ANet abandoned the entire game to work on this abomination.
Because 3 months of doomsaying isn’t enough.
Keep on trolling bojangles, why you spend so much time on the forums is anyone’s guess.
Haven’t figured out if he gets paid by the post or by the hour
You know we all think the same about you two…. lul
Fanboyism is a hard disease to get rid of. I used to have it too until I realized how horrible GW2 is, and how it literally has nothing that was in GW1.
I ‘quit’ WoW (obviously playing again) at the time and thought this game was the future blah blah, seriously how can you defend this game though.
It REMOVED trading, it’s literally going backwards not forwards. It removed trinity, any sense of team work or strategy. It removed interesting combat, we are stuck with the same boring 5bar of skills, ranged is totally favored over melee 100% of the time.
We can’t even move skills on our bar for crying out loud. It’s like they forgot to uncheck stickittenys (rly, sticky and keys is censored? fail forums too) and thought F it, they’ll LOOOVE the choices they have, teehee! /troll
Kiting is the name of the game because oh god forbid I take ONE hit from a mob and shatter, oh but wait we have this invincibility button called dodge. C’mon, does it get ANY lazier than this?
Minecraft has more interesting combat. I just honestly can’t see how one could fanboy GW2, it’s like you MUST be trolling. That’s all I can fathom right now.
Mmm coffee
There WILL be payed expansions, just throwing that out there.
And even if you could buy them with gems without using cash, it would take what… a trillion gold by then? The ratio is already insane so… you’re far better off just spending the cash on it.
Expansions are usually 30-40 dollars in my experience
