There’s only one thing you need to keep in mind when playing GW2. If it makes you gold, it’s bannable.
Extremely alt unfriendly actually, in comparison to let’s say WoW where I could easily level an alt with full heirlooms in a few days and have it maxed out in heroic epic gear whereas I’d have to grind months in GW2 for ascended gear, seeing as how dailies are account bound and not character… pointless having anything other than 1 main.
Having dailies account bound is like the equivalent of Blizzard locking raids to one character a week, so I can only gear up ONE main and no alts. It’s complete trash. (which they would never do btw)
I’ve never played a game so unfriendly to alts, never ever it’s horrible.
I’m a hardcore gamer no matter what it is I’m playing, from mortal kombat to cod to MMO’s… makes no difference to me, I’m always an exceptional player… no to boast or anything, but I’ve been a gamer all my life so.
Still going to have massive culling in open world, pointless… call me the grinch but why play when you can’t even see what’s going on
I’d assume the settings will effect all culling.
They said it’s WvW only – so we will still have culling in meta events, cities, etc.
They also said that this won’t be addressed until later this year…
Let me take you back to GW1, where gear didn’t mean squat and skill mattered. The end.
Skill didn’t matter, skills mattered. As in, the eight slots on the bar and your Attribute setup. Get the right eight and the attributes to run them, you didn’t need to do more than stay awake and spam keys sometimes to just walk through PvE.
Even as a ranger, 90% of all four parts of the game were easy enough to blow through without resorting to broken skills like Ursan’s Blessing, Ebon Vanguard Supports, or Pain Inverter.
It was PvP that required actual skill. Well, either that or the latest build that the metagame served up as being inexplicably more useful to steamroll the unprepared people facing you.
I could miss a few days and it wouldn’t matter one bit. None of this laurel trash was in the game.
Zaishen Coins.
Are you trying to say envoy weapons had stats that were better than your current equipment because they didn’t. It was all truly optional grind with nothing more than an appearance change. There was nothing to keep up with.
No, I’m trying to say we had Laurels before GW2. It’s just that the build of the game didn’t permit them to give you a significant advantage. Well, aside from being able to get Zaishen Keys or other goodies easily, which could be transformed into liquid cash fairly easily.
Envoy Weapons were cool but oh my GOD were they overpriced.
Go play a GvG match with any meta build and play like a pro… so easy as long as you have the build and correct attributes right, right? Just spam 1234 like in GW2 right? lol.. try spamming your rupts on ranger and be useless 99% of the time.
Nope, but not understanding the meta is what got me relegated to “no thanks, Tobias, I think we’re good”. I didn’t really try the PvP all that much after being pretty much faceplanted repeatedly by teams which would focus on the ranger before the monk. Why? We went down easier.
I will agree they were insanely overpriced lol, well if you went down being the only one focused then your prot monk sucked, nothing easier than keeping a single target up which is why pressure should always be split with spikes in between.

Still going to have massive culling in open world, pointless… call me the grinch but why play when you can’t even see what’s going on
At this point it has nothing to do with balance, I suppose they just want the game to be boring.
Just look at the state of GW2, can you tell me it’s balance in either pvp or pve? We faceroll all content, glass cannon is the best option thanks to the insanely high HP pools with lame or non existent mechanics mobs have and conditions are just way too limited to be viable.
Pvp is either glass cannon or bunker. Meta’s don’t change, the game has been in the same stale state since launch.
Why? Because there is no shift in balance, not enough skills or builds to even change the meta if you wanted to. We have tried, and failed. If they can’t even balance what incredibly small options we have now, then they may as well let us have some fun and add in variety.
I’ve lost any hope I had of e-sports, this game isn’t GW1 pvp and it never will be. It won’t even come close to that level, ever. I’ve come to terms, so why can’t ANet?
I couldnt disagree more. Go run a Pug dungeon group full of glass canons and see how much fun that is. I ran SE last night with a group, and since I was a tank setup I was the one who carried the group through the dungeon. I constantly had to keep rezzing people, which led to me asking the group what their builds were. Low and behold, they were al glass cannons!
I find GW2 to be pretty well balanced, I cant speak to pvp as I dont do that and wont. I dont care about competition, I dont care about esports, I simply want to have fun, which I do right now
And are you saying that a glass cannon guardian has a high HP pool?
Well you were in a PuG that’s your problem right there, the only reason for a tanky spec would be in PuGs for obvious reasons. In any competent group that knows how to dodge, glass cannon is the best option. I find GW2 to have some of the worst balance I’ve seen. I can’t even imagine a full group of tanks with no crit dmg just power, those insanely high HP mobs would take even longer to take down…
It’s called daily wars for a reason, everything from dragons to dungeon rewards revolve around dailies. It’s pathetic, why I quit playing. GW2 wasn’t the best of games before, but now that I have to log in every day to keep up is just… WoW 2.0
Especially with laurels… lawl, terrible terrible design. “play your way” yeah right.. maybe if you wanna be poor the entirety of the game and never get ascended gear.
If you can’t even be bothered to log in occasionally to do simple tasks in exchange for END GAME gear then MMO games as an entire genre is not for you.
While you are at it you might as well not play any other online games where there’s ANY progression whatsoever because if you can’t even stand the minimal effort that it takes to do dailies(Which is completely OPTIONAL) in GW2 then you aren’t cut out to do anything.
In fact just quit online games all together and save us from your inane rants on the forums. That would be much appreciated.
Sorry I have a social life and am not home every. single. day. and for that I don’t deserve the best gear?
Let me take you back to GW1, where gear didn’t mean squat and skill mattered. The end.
I could miss a few days and it wouldn’t matter one bit. None of this laurel trash was in the game.
edit; btw if you think gear treadmill is progression… then lol. Enjoy progressing on that next tier… and the next…. such progression amirite

I grind 24/7 when I’m hopped up on AMP and come out with a total of 5g
totally worth it mang
I’d rather keep my sanity. If it wasn’t a mindless grind I would have liked to get a few of them.

The reason for the set unchangeable skills is because they admitted that Guild Wars 1 style was a failure becoming exponentially more complex when trying to balance skills.
They have said that:
The trait tree has tiers so it can be easily expanded.
We will have new utility skills.
New weapons for each class will come with expansions(on the forums during beta a dev mentioned saving things like a Great Axe for an expansion)
How long until people get bored of those new weapon sets though? That’s just avoiding the issue. There needs to be a big pool of skills that WE can customize, not just slap on a weapon and have them locked in.
They could easily do it, too. Just how a thief’s 1 skill changes to backstab in stealth, the 3 skill (using thief as example) could be the dual skill, no matter what you put there. Let’s say I put death blossom on 5, it would be an offhand skill. I put heartseeker on 3, it turns into a dual skill and has a different function.
That alone would be major variety compared to what we have now… but no, linear boring crap is what we get. I can’t believe how locked in we are with almost no options in variety compared to GW1.
And no, GW1 was not a failure with its skill system, ANet did a tremendous job balancing. Was it a lot of work? Sure. But it worked, and kept everyone happy, and was the no.1 reason meta’s changed constantly in pvp and pve making fresh replayability all the time.
It was never perfect, you simply can’t achieve perfect balance, but the thing we should be focusing on is “was it fun”, to which I reply a resounding YES.

I get your point completely and this was an issue I brought up a while back. Compared to GW1, or any game really, you enter a zone not knowing wth is going on just random events with rarely any back story.
At this point it’s too late to change the lack of quests in current content but they could better it in the future. personally I think there should have been quests AND events. I mean, quests are incredibly easy to design in comparison. They could have been hearts with a lot more back story on what you are doing there and why, also would have made hearts 10x less boring since they are all the typical gather this, kill that, etc. anyways.
GW1 was incredibly rich, you knew exactly what was going on the entirety of each campaign and the story was great… can’t say the same for GW2.
@Aeon I think you hit the nail on the head there, and at least no one else is going to try removing trinity without a proper replacement, thank god. I don’t think combat is ‘amazing’ though, more of just meh. I like actually using my brain and strategizing which is why I loved GW1.
At first I hated ascended gear
And I still do.
The whole system spits on the name of Guild Wars.
Town clothes are useless because you can’t combat in them. I wouldn’t buy any of the costumes even if they were amazing looking.
But… GW2 does have gear (stat) progression.
Because they didn’t actually test or optimize the game at all before it was released, and they didn’t listen to ANYONE during the beta tests (obviously)
Culling, lag in groups, etc. was reported since day 1.
So pve remains broken until later this year
Lol bravo. Literally no point in logging on until they fix culling ,which is a horrible mechanic in the first place. I can’t even see what’s going on in events, that’s worse than the 10 FPS I get thanks to your amazing optimized client. Silly ME for actually believing they would fix culling all across the board, not just WvW.
Meanwhile, ultra in every other game I play, no problems seeing my enemies or allies. I think I know what games I’ll be playing.
I also find it mind boggling you guys still haven’t added the option for particle density. It’s largely the reason the game runs like crap in huge groups yet you can’t even lower spell effects like you can in every other MMO I’ve played… go figure.
Not to mention I’m supposed to dodge your 1hit instagibs yet can’t even see what some bosses are doing. This game still has years of work before it’s decent, and all it would take is a little common sense from the devs. #imad
Prophecies enemies lacked depth (but still light years ahead of GW2 enemies). But before anyone retorts with, well GW2 is a new game, just like Prophecies was. They’ve had 5 years to build on what they learnt in GW1. Now it just feels like they threw all that knowledge out the window.
I see that retort flown around all too much, and that’s my exact reply. They’ve had years to learn from their mistakes, yet they haven’t kept ANY of that information.
Agree’d, another cool thing about GW1 was when a skill got changed with a buff or whatever, so did the enemies.
Just add UI customization to the list of not allowed since it was a feature in GW1.
Town clothes are useless. Why abandon something that worked perfectly in GW1, combat in your costumes that you spent good money on.
It really is true though, anything and everything that was in GW1 = not allowed in GW2 even if it is better. I just don’t get the logic in not allowing us to combat in our costumes.. oh cool I can stand around in a city looking good while the entire world is persistent, tell me HOW does that make sense!?
The reason we stood around in GW1 was because everything was INSTANCED and they were our trading hubs.
Plus with the massive culling, I couldn’t see peoples costumes even if I wanted to, hah!
I do believe them when they say they have kept selling copies even after launch, but I do not believe that the player base is increasing. Between the different guilds that I am in, a huge friends list from launch and other friends with their guilds and friends, I do not for one second feel as if the true active population is growing. I don’t think anyone believes that.
I think everyone has something to gripe about with this game. We can all find something. The lack of end game, no matter what some might say to justify this. The unbalanced classes. The broken SPvP. What passes as new content (living story). Blah blah blah, continue list.
The fact is that nothing else is coming out soon. So we are going to keep playing this until a new game comes and we jump ship.
Exactly, cough ESO cough, they really aren’t doing much to stay competitive, which means they don’t care and are not worried about it. Even WoW is doing major balances right now, after community cried out for balance Blizz answered.
I have a problem with naming, it’s actually the reason I don’t run alts. All the names I want are taken and I just can’t be bothered to look at the screen for an hour trying to think of something I could live with.
It’s really bad, like if a name is short let’s say Sara, her last name can only be 4 maybe 5 letters long or it will bother the hell out of me and I’ll delete and remake. I also don’t like the look of some letters in the default text style so I will never use them in names… yeah tell me about OCD.
I’ve also never truly been satisfied with a name except when I played WoW I got the name Rukia and used it for years, still have the character too. Same in Diablo 2
I could have gotten it, if names were server based. Horrible idea they went with imo, I even logged in at the very moment servers went live. I can only imagine someone had it reserved on GW1.
In protest I make all my names absolutely stupid now.
I make u sammich k, etc. I just don’t care anymore too many great names are taken thanks to how they are shared across all servers.
I can only hope ESO doesn’t do the same thing, since they will have one ‘mega-server’ but I’ll try to get it there too, and if I do… say goodbye to me lol. I can’t take a game too seriously unless I get the name I want, it’s really annoying but my brain is stupid so.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
I like the voice, too. But that might be because I usually make young looking characters, and the voice sounds a bit young ranged 18-25.
If that’s how you feel, then try to listen to Norn Female’s voice.
Now that I DO hate, it’s way too deep and just doesn’t fit a lot of the characters options.
I like the human female voice.
Has anyone tried to farm a chaos axe?
Rare things are rare.
Chaos axes were easy to get lol… don’t even compare GW1 farms to GW2.
This game surpasses any korean grind, puts them to shame actually.
There were multiple chests to get it from and they also dropped off mobs if you were lucky. Everyone and their mom had one, which wasn’t a bad thing imo… at least these items should be obtainable without wasting your entire life away.
I’m so sick of any decent items in this game requiring a ton of mats to farm/buy on TP and throwing them into the mystic toilet, why can’t they just drop themselves at a fair chance %?
Worth what?
If you’re referring to the 60 bucks you payed initially to get the X number of hours you’ve already enjoyed…
I’d say yes. It’s worth it.
Imo this doesn’t hold ground when talking about an MMO. If we were talking about a single player RPG, then sure… but this is an MMO a game that will get continuous updates and expansions, there should always be fun things to do other than rolling a bunch of alts. (cough, endgame, cough)
The price doesn’t really matter whether it’s b2p or p2p. GW1 achieved this endgame by adding a ton of skills so players would be busy with builds and trying content in different ways, it didn’t need raids, but GW2 just stops and there isn’t much you can do to spice the endgame up. Especially since pvp isn’t exactly favorable in this game, meta’s never change, it’s just the same thing every single day.
The “feel the flames of balthazar” on human female is hawt
MF always seemed silly to me as an armour stat.
Get armour with stats that maximise your build – more damage, more kills = more drops = more chances at good loot. If you still want MF, I find food and guild banner buffs to be more than sufficient and they don’t sacrifice performance for something as vague as luck.
Same here, I find MF to be a waste.
^Actually it does make sense because it’s his opinion and that’s how he/she feels, as do I. You don’t have to get all hot and bothered about it lol.
No, it doesn’t make sense. Believe it or not, opinions can and often are nonsensical. “GW is better than GW2 because it allowed me to set personal goals” is nonsense. “The game was made by suits, not gamers” is nonsense.
You’re missing a very important point, it’s how he or she feels, the person wasn’t stating it as fact, so it very much does make sense. Get off your high horse and learn what an opinion is. Keyword “to me” go and re-read the post.
Is it really necessary to keep making these same exact threads? No, the manifesto is complete bullcrap, let’s just leave it at that.
Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam… And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva…So tweasure your wuv.
Reminded me of the dwarves from FF9, rally-ho!
Just like in WoW or GW1, having click to move enabled does not disable WASD movement.. have you guys really never played an MMO with CTM?
I would obviously use both
I’m loving the replies today.
This is exactly how the stupid Orrians were underwater until they finally fixed the silly instakill spin attack. It’s literally the one sole reason I never entered water again after trying to face just one, yes one mob underwater there.. this was a while back. Anyway, far and beyond unintelligent to add this back into the game.
If it’s the attack I’m thinking of, it’s instant and almost non dodgeable because there is no tell that they are going to use it, it just happens. If you are melee, prepare your anus. I just don’t get the logic behind ANet devs nowadays. Instakill this, instagib that.
Is that really all their tiny pea brains can think of? How about some real fun, not frustration. Again, it’s FRUSTRATION, not FUN ANet… you have the two bass akwards.
Lions Arch sewers.
Are you asking where are the worthy benefits like costumes, or what.. confused by your 2nd post.
Obviously a game needs to be funded, GW2 isn’t pay to play, you can’t be that oblivious..
The benefits in the store are hardly cheating, and not even that good, at all. At least not for the price ~_~
^Actually it does make sense because it’s his opinion and that’s how he/she feels, as do I. You don’t have to get all hot and bothered about it lol.
Nah, I prefer the GW1 Tengu by far. Now they’re hunched over, anemic looking. Basically just bird heads on hunched normal frames. In GW1 they had feathers coming out all over, had a presence, weren’t hunched over like decrepit vultures, but rather stood proud like an eagle. The GW2 Tengu remind me of the trolls in WoW. They coulda been cool, but instead had this weak look. I’ve never liked the hunched look of characters. It’s feeble, it’s unnatural. I understand a crouched combat stance, but not walking around like a 90yr old. Bring back the proud eagle warriors, not the feeble buzzards they’ve become!
Haha this made me laugh, but I agree.
I want the game to be what it was advertised as, no grind and ‘everything I loved from GW1’.
ANet have already made the game something it wasn’t, so why not change it some more for the better? I’ve suggested countless idea’s, from major buffs to the combo system, to more skills, to a solid trinity, to professions having jobs that we could specialize in, etc. I’m not exactly a one track mind here, but all of my (and other peoples) idea’s are completely ignored and they just add more grind and faceroll content.
Not exactly trolling more than it is constructive idea’s. If you just dismiss everything as a troll then it’s your problem not mine lol
I love, love, love that the trinity was summarily ousted from this game. Yay! What’s boring is folks trolling the forums by asking to have it squeezed in somehow.
No more boring than people who read a couple posts (if that) to a 50+ post thread and make some general statement about it.
I read the whole thread. Ironic assumptions are the best.
Says the guy/girl who assumes we are trolling for wanting a trinity… rofl. Irony indeed.
The OP suggested, as have many other OPs before him/her, that AN should shoehorn in the trinity lest the whole game fall apart. I’m paraphrasing, of course. Your “we” has no relevance to my post even if you think it must. It’s not all about you, after all, is it?
Yea ok
Yay! What’s boring is folks trolling the forums by asking to have it squeezed in somehow.
Seems to me I am ‘folks’
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Trinity will not come to this game, it would take an enormous effort to rebuild characters and classes from scratch. Why do trinity addicts need to start a thread about this every week. All arguments have been exchanged many times over anyway. Yes, GW2 combat can be extremely boring, but that has quite different reasons than a lack of trinity – which would make the battles even more boring. And stop selling that concept as “strategy”. It is cookie cutter builds, rotating cookie cutter abilities in a cookie cutter order, all memorized from doing the same raid many times over. There is rarely strategy in the trinity approach, knowing what to do beforehand to counter rigid AI behaviour is simply memorizaiton, nothing else.
You just explained the current state of GW2… no strategy.
The lack of trinity wouldn’t even bother me if I wasn’t pigeon holed into using 2 skills on my thief constantly and oh switch to shortbow for AoE to spam 1 button how exciting.
ANet didn’t just remove trinity, they removed ‘build wars’ which was what kept GW1 alive for so many years and still interesting to this day. They made these 2 major decisions without replacing them with anything of value.
Can you honestly tell me you’ll be enjoying your character in a few years with the same exact skills, same rotation, same everything? Hell I’m already bored of it… was bored on the first week. Then again, I DO come from GW1… a truly unique game.
no, I am not telling you that and if you care to reread my post carefully you may stop then for a moment and ask yourself why the heck you thought we would disagree there.
O_o never said we disagree’d I was just elaborating my point.
After hundreds of events, you gotta have a reason to repeat events and currently there just is none, sure there’s ‘fun’. But after doing everything in the game I personally am tired of getting nothing but crap blues and greens and I’ve never been one to be greedy about loot, it’s simply ridiculous how bad it is in this game.. never seen such abysmal drops. I feel like a legendary garbage man… you can’t blame the player for that.
IMO, you should get a reward at the end of every event that allows you to choose what you want just like the personal story. And events are hardly balanced reward-wise. Some events take a pretty long time, yet abruptly stop after a chain of 2-3 of them and they each give you the same crappy not even 2 silver.
Yeah, I enjoy myself to some extent but it would be cool to actually get loot a different color once in a while. ANet are the ones that made this a gear based game.. not me. I’d much prefer GW1 esque loot, but thanks to ecto only being salvagable for god knows why how the hell else am I supposed to gear up multiple sets or was it their plan from the beginning for all of us to simply run one straight build forever into oblivion.
The stat system in this game is just atrocious… blame it on THAT.
Yeah it’s not much, I was actually surprised how fast you get through it all with not much dialogue, rewards, or anything really.
I still find titles pointless when I can’t even target my own character for special snowflake syndrome, especially when any title in the game is easy as hell to obtain, except for GWAMM from GW1.
Even in this very thread we heard from a WoW raider who said it was kittening boring.
I was also a WoW raider (still am) and although I don’t enjoy the trinity there as much as I do in GW1, raids are pretty epic. I think the problem is gamers are becoming jaded to new and exciting content because they’ve seen the pinnacle of awesomeness.
For example, killing Illidan and the Lich King in BC/Wotlk were some of the funnest times I’ve ever experienced in gaming. The only 2 things that surpass that experience was 1) beating battle toads and 2) winning certain matches in GvG that gave you more of a adrenaline rush than downing that certain raid boss as the last person standing at 1% health (which I’ve done btw ^^) but I am at heart a pvper so.
The reason I say jaded is I don’t enjoy raids half as much as I used to. I’ve seen it all, and honestly don’t think Blizz can do anything to make it any more epic. There are limitations to the way their trinity works and mechanics of combat. I think this is true for all games, my solution to make it more enjoyable again personally would be to freshen the trinity up by allowing me to tank or heal on my rogue, assassin, thief, whatever.
I think this is the age of freedom in gaming, just look at ESO and (the sad attempt) of GW2. Devs are FINALLY realizing that people want to play their way, on their character. Why do I have to role a warrior to tank? Or a priest to heal? Let me do it on any character.
I think dropping the trinity was a mistake, it just needed a little more freedom imo.
Again, trinity can be different in games, it’s not all just tank and spank, stand there and dps/heal in every MMO.
@Rukia
I can understand you if you are coming from GW1, I didn’t play with it much, but I can accept if GW1 players doesn’t like GW2 – it’s kind of a different concept… (Btw, your last sentence could be said about any other MMO…)
But this topic is about the trinity, which is not a characteristic of GW1, but other MMOs like WoW. In my last 6 months of WoW, I couldn’t step into raids or even 5man instances, because it was so kittening boring. You just stand there and do your rotation. I’m not sure what people smoking saying that the trinity is more interesting than GW2s combat, since I felt physical pain in half an hour when I had to help out in a raid in my last WoW-months. The trinity is FREAKING boring… Especially compared to GW2, where you have to move and dodge a lot.
I actually agree with you, and it’s hard to explain but there is a difference between GW1 trinity and MMO’s like WoW. I didn’t enjoy the trinity in that game.
Movement was a very crucial part of combat in GW, you didn’t just stand there and do your rotation, in fact there was about as much movement as in GW2 just no dodge button, but you dodged projectiles by strafing. There was no typical tank because aggro was random for the most part, the thing I miss most is healers.
Interrupts were also a major role in GW1, one could say required for pvp and pve.
As a monk I couldn’t just stand there and wait for some tank to grab aggro or peel a player, I had to kite and heal at the same time all while swapping weapons constantly to not get caught without my shield up by an assassin so I can break his combo chain with shield bash or the likes. There just isn’t anything like it in any game I’ve played.
High expectations are truly a gamers downfall. My point is, trinity doesn’t have to be boring. It definitely depends on the game and how AI responds to your actions, and I simply can’t imagine pvp without a healer. I think it’s a horrible, terrible idea that there is insane burst in GW2 pvp without a counter other than lolbunker.
I knew it from the beginning that it would be a bad move for pvp, and look at spvp now… dead as a door nail with atrocious balance, and same meta going on since release.
Lol, I was curious about Eric too… who knows who still works at ANet, only a certain someone gets face time (Colin). . Ree is a loremaster I’m sure she’s still on somewhere.
They have abandoned GW2 pvp, and trust me with current design there is no way in hell it will ever achieve e-sport or even be half decent. Our only hope is for someone to take a team and hop back on GW1 and start the balance train so we can get some good old GvG up again.
I’m convinced they won’t add new skills to this game, which is vomit worthy imo but it is what it is. Never felt safe even in GW1 with NCsoft, I feel ya there. Surprised it’s even still on the servers.
I dunno though, I’ve pretty much lost all respect for any of the ANet devs. Dunno who you can trust now, ya know. Their whole 180 on design thing may make GW1 just as bad as GW2, I can see it now… removal of monks and stream lined 20 skills per class.
Oh and where the hell did John Stumme go? He was my hero a while back for taking some initiative on GW… that guy totally disappeared off the map.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
More grind, added ascended gear, dailies are mandatory, game is not alt friendly.
Enjoy ^^
