It’s a fact from all the farm nerfs that ANet don’t want us making good money in game and instead use the gem store to buy gold so I have to disagree with them not being greedy. Drop rates are horrendous and it takes longer to make money in this game than any other I’ve played.. completely killing any motivation I had to log in.
I have hardly even played the damn game the past couple months. They just keep ruining their game. It sucks that they can’t see that.
All of those female human thieves and rangers aren’t saving up for the T3 cultural because of it’s practicality.
Same goes for winged armor. I’ve seen people craft the level 60 set just so they can transmute it to a new lvl 2 character.
I think there are and will be plenty of options both ways.
To be fair human T3 is literally the only good looking armor set for medium wearers. I mix T3 with T1 legs and shoes and it looks great. All the other armors are hilariously bad looking and 90% of them are robes of some sort.
Warrior because it’s ANets frost mage
I got this on my second try, there is literally nothing difficult about it. Definitely the easiest jumping puzzle in the game that I’ve seen.
I guess the QQ outburst from the clock tower convinced ANet that there doesn’t need to be any challenge.
You gotta think there are only two employees working on skill balance so don’t ever expect a meaningful update in the future. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment and you won’t be.
Thief update was totally useless and doesn’t address any concerns with the class but w/e like I said expectations and what not.
oh it’s only been three whole months since people started complaining about the glaring issues with this class. Let them do what every other major company with a AAA title has done, hire more people to handle the bugs and balance.
Or, you know, make a PTR so we can test their horrible changes before they get released into the game.. just a thought.
I guess that wouldn’t matter in this case though, since it’s not the updates that were bad but more the lack of updates (in the case of thieves). I won’t speak for other classes..

All this QQ for a crappy trait buff lol wow. Clueless indeed.
No skilled thief is going to use this, not even for a second. I own’t even bat an eye at the trait tbh.
Aaaand thieves are still boring pieces of crap.
No noticeable changes, no venom or trap fixes, trait-only buffs…. just wow.
Not gonna say I expected anything more than this though lol.
For the people going amg stealth buff uber l33t h4x0rz you are slowed down so much in combat it’s silly and 50% in stealth is not game changing, trust me. It will make back stabbing moving targets slightly easier and that’s about it.
The problem with the stats in gw2 is the intense diminishing returns practically. Vit/toughness only needs to be stacked to the extent that you can take a few normal hits and survive. The only thing is you just need enough to cast your heals and stuff. Any more is useless. Because no matter how much you stack, you can’t survive bosses special attacks or combos. Boss-made red circles? You still have to gtfo or get downed.
Which means the only stats that scale well are power/prec. Which is why so many people overstack those and lose all survivability as the compromise.
Healing power is even worse. Don’t even get me started on that.
And this is why you may as well go glass cannon and get good at dodging. Defensive stat’s are purely for learning the game. They scale horribly and the damage trade off is not worth it.
You’re probably hearing the lack of depth from players like me who are coming from GW1. The combat itself is fine but skill choices are extremely limited in comparison, sure the combat is far more exciting than any other MMO (imo) but the lack of skills just makes it boring when I was able to choose from literally hundreds of them, and thousands of different combinations.
Also combat feels more single player than anything without roles, I’m not interrupting casters or snaring melee to protect my backline, it’s every man for himself and sure if you see an AoE on the ground go ahead and drop a finisher but it really doesn’t feel like team work. This is supposed to be an MMO, not a single player RPG.
I would say right now playing GW2 is akin to playing GW1 with a full party of heroes. Feels like no human interaction because it’s all about pewpew and nothing else. Builds, where are they? I had a new saved build every week in GW with a template changer for no cost at all. I could be an assassin with a hammer, a monk with daggers, etc.
The argument really depends on what games you are comparing the combat to. If you ask me, GW2 combat as a whole is crap because the choices you have run out incredibly fast. I’ve been using the same build, same combo, for months now. My only 2 choices are basically pure physical damage or pure condition damage.
This is a thief PoV btw.
If its anything like it was in GW 1 a really annoying maze lay through that portal with much less foliage of course . As much as i loved GW1 the Maguma Jungle was one of my least favorite areas.
Haha… the memories, I agree kinda but I eventually memorized it all so lol
Well I like both, but I like to spend the majority of my time in open world of course.. the bread and butter of an MMO
I don’t think it’s realistic to go back to upgrading GW1. It does miss some elemental items like jumping.
However, I do think GW2 could’ve been more like GW1 in their approach to how the game feels and works.
I am thinking that GW2 is lost to me but perhaps Anet needs to learn from both GW1 and GW2 so they can make a real comparison and then GW3 will actually really be the successor to GW1.
But that might be wishful thinking…
You don’t go from good to bad to good you go from good to bad to worse, look at Blizzard or any other gaming company. They start out fine and have a huge respect then they turn evil greedy greedy greedy gotta get their dirty little hands on your money any way they can they aren’t gamers but corporations.
It sure would be nice though, maybe in 6 to 8 years we’ll have a true GW succesor who knows but I highly doubt it.
It’s like D2 to D3, you know damn well D4 ain’t gonna be any better than the terrible failure of a sequel D3. If it ever see’s the light of day, that is. I’m pretty sure they’re done with that franchise though lol. It won’t have much of a following at all from earlier Diablo fans so who knows how much revenue that would bring.
ANet has great PR, they advertise things one way then do the complete opposite and then they completely ignore the complaints about it as if they don’t exist lol amazing how low they’ve fallen and all these stealth nerfs just more cloak and dagger bull to hide their true intentions.
It killed the world more than it was already dead, that’s my issue anyway. And the DC issue is extremely annoying, you end up having to quit 70% through the dungeon because 1 of your friends can’t rejoin. How did they not see that coming?
If you don’t want to do any dungeons you are free to play a dead game, may as well just go back to GW1 for that because you can do all content with a group of heroes.
I like GW2 as it is. That said though, I would give my left nut to see a Utopia campaign to GW1.
TBH I wish guild wars 2 kept everything the same up until lvl 80, but then totally ripped off WoW dungeon and raiding…evn vertical progression I miss my sweet gears
Agree’d.
They should have gone 100% WoW clone and let everyone be any roll tank/heal/dps or actually put some Guild Wars into the game. Before I get flamed, I would much rather the latter but obviously ANet hates the original GW because there is none of it here and even a dev stated it wasn’t that fun.
Update includes fixes.
I can’t wait to see the much needed Pistol Thief buffs.Need a non-trenchcoat armor buff too though.
Thieves and mesmers suffer the same problem as rogues in WoW; they are already so deadly in PvP with a couple of specific builds, arenanet doesn’t dare cut them a break and buff any of their other skills.
Alas, for us the only changes we’ll be seeing is nerfs or fixes
Current WoW rogues are a dead class, suffering from being weak and every other class being able to do exactly what they can except better. I’m sure you were referring to the early days rogue though, and yeah they do suffer from not much change because it’s a delicate class and that has made it extremely boring to play with no major changes to it through the years unlike every single other class getting new mechanics and such.
Hopefully this doesn’t happen to thieves and mesmers in GW2 but I have quit the thief already since it’s a dull proff to begin with. It’s all about how stuff plays, diversity, and uniqueness. Thief uses 1-2 buttons on any given build 24/7. Not sure how anyone finds this fun or to have any sort of longevity but that’s for another topic.
From all the massive QQ from bads about thieves I’m sure they will be nerfed into the ground and suffer the same as the WoW rogue, useless and not played anymore. But I really don’t care about that profession any longer anyway. It will always be boring with its current mechanics.
I am hoping for D/D Ele invincibility nerf, even though I play one and it’s extremely fun to troll people it is obviously OP as hell unless you are CC chain focused down by a good group of players. And mesmers need more mobility through a passive or swiftness.
Warrior are ANets frost mage so I doubt anything coming for them except for more buffs. Rangers uh… yeah they are just neglected as all hell and forced to use a pet in GW2 why? I played around with ranger for years in GW1 and only used a pet for select builds like thumper etc.
Bugs, bugs and more bugs need to be fixed before they even bother with new content. You may say they have different teams for both but I’ll retort with what is the bug team fixing in the new content released while they are busy fixing the old bugs?
GvG still not in the game lolwut seriously this should be a #1 priority.
Guild Halls
How about they add the basics before worrying about other stuff.
Sorry for such a long post, some may not even be relevant to the thread I’m in rant mode
I am relieved that I play a game where this is a problem.
Lol except you completely missed the part where the servers aren’t actually full.
I knew full well there would be no more trinity in GW2, but I didn’t realize how much I’d miss it, personally..
You cant sit back and /afk spam keys to play like you do as a healer in “traditional” MMOs
This may be off topic, but you’re saying you healed in raids in WoW and you just spammed heals? You didn’t dps, cc, interrupt, decurse, kite adds, stay out of fire, stack or spread out, time your heals perfectly either for the 2 secs your tank was healable or in between boss hits? It’s easy to call WoW raids faceroll in retrospect, I guess…
Agree’d. People with no experience in raiding just like to throw random comments around as if they actually know the full story. I’ve been a main tank for years in WoW with offspec being healing and I main monked/sin in GW1. GW2 has the least amount of team work I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
Healing isn’t just standing around afk, far from it. Fact is, ANet could have implemented healing just fine and the combat would still be fun and active and more diversity would be there but we all know GW2 is all about not having options so..
Game completely dead, no one playing anymore. Cuz it’s Too crowded.
Lol what?
Game completely dead, no one playing anymore. Cuz it’s Too crowded.
Ya see the kids listen to the rap music…
Lol epic
I think ANet needs to get guesting in asap and add an option to choose from overflow servers like we could in GW1 and just play with your friends in that ‘instance’ of the world if the original on that server is full. That way, it doesn’t matter what server anyone is on you can just guest to one.
Also all those servers being full is complete bullcrap, most of them are pretty dead and ANet servers do not work like most I think where it matters who is actually online and playing, because there is no way 100% of the population is just sitting in LA on my server or doing dungeons.
Orr is completely dead along with most other parts of the world.
Hell I haven’t even seen an overflow since the last major event… but my sever is full, right? Right?
(edited by Rukia.4802)
More reliable swiftness would be great, if it were not for rangers, elementalists and necros getting free 25% passive movement. Even if we get better swiftness uptime we will still be falling behind, because everybody else moves even faster now.
Please consider giving us a passive movement increase tied to a mantra or signet. 20% or even 10% would be more than welcome and very needed.
Thief also has 25% signet passive
Ya’ll should know this by now, GW2 is all about not having options. So playing a ranger without a pet is never going to happen.
The only right way to play a game is the way in which your having fun. As soon as your not having fun it’s no longer a game, just a waste of time. At which point its best to move on to other things.
I just wanna throw this out there – not everyone complaining on the forums is still playing. I’m certainly not, I still voice my opinion here though and await a decent update to fix the major issues with the game to make it better.
I don’t think many here understand just how disappointing ANet has been to a lot of longtime GW fans. I don’t want to see this game fail or not be fun. I want it to change, very badly. I’ve been a GW player for the last 7 years.. you don’t just up and walk away from something you’ve loved for that long.
That’s 7 years GW has been in my life. That’s a pretty big deal if you ask me, no? Sitting down almost every week playing with friends & guild mates only to find them all quit GW2 at once because it has zero diversity is largely disheartening.
Only time will tell what happens to the game, but my bet is on ANet sticking to their new demographic unfortunately.
You’re just in time to join in on all the grindfest that is GW2. You won’t be making any money anytime soon… a terrible time to start in all honesty but I hope you enjoy yourself anyway.
Stopped reading right there. Not what people are saying, read again.
I read what they said. A guy complained we have little skills usable at the same time, and that was the correct answer.
As a friendly advice, next time you use the “you don’t read what people are saying” angry kid talk, make sure -you- actually read it first or it might end up embarassing again.
You literally said 18 keyboards of keybinds and 72 hotbars on screen. No one said anything close, so naturally I stop reading a silly idiotic comment like that, I wasn’t lying. Maybe put things differently if you want to be taken seriously, and yea I’m super angry… careful I might bash my head against my keyboard brohamlet.
But I agree we need way more skills to choose from and be able to swap out skills on weapon sets as well.
As another poster stated, adding another profession would only add flavor for a day.
You guys need to be done with the mentality of buttons.
I’m tired of hearing a game to be fun needs 18 keyboards of keybinds and 72 hotbars on screen.
Stopped reading right there. Not what people are saying, read again.
Well OP asks why I feel the way I do but honestly you took all the words out of my mouth and as I’ve stated these issues across the boards for months they all go ignored by ANet. It’s clear they are aiming towards a new demographic not old GW fans so we are being left behind in the dust.
That’s the sad fact and yes it hurts :/ RIP GW franchise, at least we still have a dead game to go back to though right…?
I saw some kid mention rose colored glasses.. all I’ll say to you is go back to the WoW forums please, leave that stuff out of these boards. These are all legitimate complaints.
I completely agree that ANet should have given all classes every role instead of removing them. Been saying this since day 1 and have wished Blizz did it in WoW for years, I would kill to dodge tank on my rogue or heal with potions or whatever mechanic they would need to use to make sense of it.
But nah, we aren’t allowed to have fun in MMO’s for some reason the devs like to pigeonhole us into playing certain classes to play a certain way which is complete bull, and for people that don’t like being DPS 24/7 of course GW2 combat is going to become extremely dull quite fast because that’s what you are doing 99.9% of the time. DPSing.
I loved games like skyrim and oblivion because it let me do all the things I wanted, I could be a 2 handed claymore wielding battlemage with healing powers and high stealth if I wanted… I make my own character and play my own way, and for this reason I will also love the elder scrolls online.
GW2 doesn’t stand a chance in the future if it continues to have such linear and limited choices.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
UGH!
This is a Nekro that should really die.GW2´s problem isn´t another missing class, but the restrictive 8 skill(self-heal & elites are basically useless) system.
So clamoring for a new class to make things interesting again will slake that thirst for about a day.Make our current skills actually synergistic, similar to what beat-em ups already have.
GW2 is basically a RPG beat-em up anyway.
Time to get honest about it.
Indeed, combat is boring because you can only swap weapons with a set amount of skills and some are completely useless like 3 on a BS thief or 5 on a DB thief… they don’t synergize at all since you can’t swap out skills only weapons.
They won’t and cannot change this without completely redoing balance though and let’s be honest that is the entire reason they made this boring combat to begin with, and why we can’t even change our skills on weapons and have such an extremely limited skillset compared to GW1.
The ironic part about all of this is GW2 isn’t even balanced with the low amount of skills so may as well give us options and tons more builds to play with so at least I can enjoy myself while getting instagibbed whether it be in pve or pvp.
No healers, no tanks. Don’t ask for stuff that would ruin the game.
LF2M healer and tank for hours and hours and hours and hours, no sorry, no.
We already have LF2M except without the healer and having them would actually attract more people but useless when everyone can just heal themselves. Needless to say they will never be in the game, current trinity is boring they would have to completely redo it. GW1 was fine with healers and no tanks.
So no, wouldn’t ruin the game lol. What they do need to do though is buff healing power with certain skills it’s just useless to some like thieves horrible HP scaling, I went pure heal gear and the trade off for damage isn’t even close to being worth it rofl horrible design I don’t even see the point of HP honestly.
Pointless with hats having the invisible nohair bug
Wow the trolling in this thread amazes me…
Is it that hard to grasp simple logic? It’s unfair that 2 one handers cost more than a zweihander. But this is the new and improved ANet we’re talking about so silly things like this existing in the game don’t surprise me one bit.
Nor do I really care, but like I said, simple logic.
I am taking a break until they fix loot and reward issues.
And the world is dead because everyone is grinding dungeons, try LA if you want to see someone else in the game lol.
My reasons for not buying anything in the gem shop (anymore) is ANet nerfing every single farm to try and force me into it to buy gems to trade for gold. That is such bull and oh so low… blatantly obvious they’ve been doing this since the beginning.
I could directly quote john peters “While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.”
This just goes to show how ANet throws lies around all the time it’s in every one of their PR bullcrap posts.
There is no alternative to making money other than dungeon grinding or playing the TP which imo isn’t even playing the game. They have increased the cooldown on so many events to prevent farms it’s ridiculous not to mention DR.
Further making their world dead and forcing us all into dungeon grinding and sitting in LA.
Gold used to be so easy to make now it’s insanely slow. I feel like a new set of T3 is like over a year off now. Drops seem reduced as well. This is exactly their plan to get you into the store to make this a much easier and faster process.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
I say make them like guild wars 1…..free
Agree’d. But that would go against their scrap-anything-guildwars-esque philosophy.
There is no such thing as “leveling”, you explore the world, do events, complete hearts, do whatever you want – and you get levels by doing so.
The concept of “leveling” is an obsession with doing things repeteadly just so you raise your level, it’s not something that can be resolved by anyone else beside you.
Until you’re obsessed with the level you are you will always believe getting to 80 is a grind no matter what, but in reality it’s not – unless you don’t like anything in the world that is, in which case you should consider games with a progression are not for you.
Uh that’s called leveling and of course you actually want full traits which isn’t possible until lvl 80 and heavily affects your build so leveling does exist and yes it’s a grind in GW2, hearts are a grind and annoying hate how they are required for map completion. No different than boring quests in other MMO’s.
As much as I hate area’s like Orr I am glad there are no hearts there.
Yeah, OP is right.
Just like I don’t own a tv, because if I spent money on the best tv in a year it would be obsolete.
Same with computers. I don’t own one because if I spend money on it something better will come out.
Or a car. Why spend money on a new car when next year there will be a better one?
Or cell phones. I bought an iphone 4 and then a few months later the 4s came out making mine obsolete…
brilliant observation, friend.
I really don’t get how people can justify using real life examples and compare to a video game lol … I’ll never take that seriously.
Lettuce be cereal, OP has a point. Eventually a full set of ascended gear will exist, making exotics inferior stat-wise and that will affect the balance of the game.
5 signet warriors are the W/Mo of GW2.
W/Mo got nothing on W/E hamstorm bro
Because they’re faceroll compared to any other proff.
grind more gold or pay cash. that’s the way it is.
Or quit playing. That’s always an option too.
The solution to a problem in a game is never “suck it up and deal with it”. Anet wants to make money, players want to play. There needs to be a nice balance. Anet promised the gem store wouldn’t be mandatory and a lot of us scoffed.
Well, guess who appears to be right?
There’s no such thing as a F2P game unless you don’t want to really play the game, so Anet needs to offer a decent solution. Personally, I don’t understand the disgust for just offering a subscription. I would pay a subscription fee if it came with some modicum of gems or access to all bank and bag slots, etc. The gem store is idiotic and this is exactly why.
GW1 was F2P after you bought it and we never had these issues with the ANet store. It’s the new management and general direction they are going that is ruining this game, it can and has been done correctly before and worked for 7 years so before you say there is no such thing as F2P maybe you should look at the facts.
Monthly fee’s are hilarious and only stem from greed. Companies don’t actually need that money to produce content, it is also fact that enough revenue is gotten from expansions alone to create more. Gem store is just icing on the cake for ANet just like the store was in GW1 but this time around they are looking to make more cash obviously.
Just take a look at how much revenue they got from GW1. Out of new campaigns and the store which was completely optional and only had things like costumes and bonus misisons they had enough to make GW2 and then some.
There is no reason for them to pigeon hole us into using the gem store other than greed simple as that. Honestly it would have been easier for them to just add a monthly fee, but I wouldn’t be playing if they did.
Btw it’s not ANets fault that the market price is increasing, that’s because of players. Supply and demand, we have a real player controlled economy in this game. But it IS ANets fault for nerfing every single available farm making gold hard to come by which is obviously a plea to get people buying gems turning those gems into gold.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Most likely another player farm was found and nerfed with swift ANet justice.
The whole point of these nerfs, which are intentional without a doubt, is that you spend more rl money on their piece of crap gem store. No subs so they have to sucker you in some how.
This never ever happened in GW1 though. Smells like Nexon up in here.
But I agree, it’s a low pathetic move by ANet and it’s been happening since release. Nerf all farms…. lol really, destroy my reasons to log in more please. If they think this encourages me to use the gem store it does the complete opposite.
Let me try to explain it more clearly. It started with your reply to :
Omg, it’s begun, it was backstab, now unicorn, next " omg did you see that thief run around in circles, everyone was confused and just watched him so he took no damage!!"
OMG Thieves have confusion now? :O
Yes with the Prayer to Lyssa spell :o
The answer is a 4 letter word that starts with JOK and ends with OKE.
So… Jokoke? Idk what that means. Also 6 letters.
what were you expecting? the thief is on a very good state atm. Stealth still needs to be fixed (channeled abilities following though stealth and pets/clones/phantoms also following though stealth) aside from that i think were very strong as we are.
Hilarious. When a class member says “I think we are very strong as we are” and prefaces that with “I want complete vanish! Nothing can follow me into stealth!” I roll my eyes. Srsly, how much more OP do you want to be?
Me thinks you not know the point of stealth. Kinda hard to be invisible when some channeled spells are literally pointing to where you are trolol
Not asking for vanish, but channeled skills need to stop following target that is stealthed, it makes us too vulnerable it’s easy enough as it is to spam auttoattack and get hits on a stealthed thief.
It’st he worse with mesmers and ele’s having that hour long channeled autoattack
Should be the only things that stop casting when a target stealths, unless they can make it to where it continues to channel but stops following at the same time.
This is both a pve and pvp problem, very annoying.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Dagger/Pistol = Hard Counter
It’s permablind city up in here.
The second strike is completely in your control, just pretend it’s your autoattack. You can move etc. First strike is the only thing I sometimes have trouble with but yes going to the right of your target usually gets the hit off, and the skill is amazing for stripping boons but not much else tbh. 99% of the time I am just C&D stun spamming and auto attacking to victory.
One of thieves many exciting builds /srcasm
The whirling axe change is actually great. That ability went from the absolute best to the worst after they removed stability. At least the other more underwhelming steal abilities didn’t make me a free kill.
Be true to yourself because you know good and well if they have kept all those abilities to whirling axe to thieves then Warriors with axe offhand will share the same benefit. It’s better they put it on equal terms like a normal whirling axe instead of being an unbalance skill.
Yeah but it was fun being god after stealing from a warrior.. the old version let you evade everything it was hilariously OP not gonna lie. Btw all this update changes is you can cancel it now, it’s still the same as always since the evade nerf to it.
Meaning if I just had to C&D at the time it will cancel the spin and allow me to C&D.
Well I wasn’t expecting much just hoping that the thief thread they brought up would be put to use and maybe our suggestions would get through to them.
I think that’s an unreasonable expectation.
- It takes time for any suggested balance changes to be implemented and playtested.
- A lot of the suggestions in that thread are mutually contradictory.
- I think it’s ill-advised to make big balance changes before fixing culling.
Bug-fixing known issues is another matter, but those issues have been documented and tracked since, like, day one. If they were easy to fix and a priority, they’d have been fixed by now. I don’t think the thread has altered their visibility.
I guess you must have missed the part where I said hoping and not expecting.
It is good that they are going for bugs – it’s a major outcry from the community right now, but tons of things still left unchanged. It’s only a little disappointing.
I hate waiting
CLass modification are lame as always… another nerf for guardians, ok that we are strong, but some love for GS and scepter is requested.
Im concerned for the poor rangers, i dont play a ranger but nerf them when they are already nerfed, its like shoot an arrow to the knee, after a low blow XD
Lol that wasn’t a nerf though it was a bug fix, at least that is what ANet are calling it.
Well I wasn’t expecting much just hoping that the thief thread they brought up would be put to use and maybe our suggestions would get through to them.
We’ll see what happens through christmas… more waiting
If you think thief is in a very good state idk what to tell you, traps are buggy as hell and need massive changes so do venoms along with other things I don’t need to go into detail just go read the thread.
Also I was expecting at the very least a balance to dancing dagger. They didn’t even touch it.. looks like it’s staying 4 initiative lol useless
