I don’t mind the dodging, but i do have two problems with this annoying one shot mechanic.
First: You don’t know how long the charge up time is until you experience the attack, which means you almost have to die to learn when to dodge.
Second: When the enemy is half inside of a wall or covered by spell effects it is much more difficult to see what they are doing in order to dodge it.
I have the same problems, on smaller bosses it’s impossible to see anything because of the spell effects. On bigger bosses, and even the smaller ones, when you fail to dodge you just die. That’s it. And you hope that someone revives you, but usually when they try the boss 1 shots them as well because of course you’re extremely vulnerable while reviving. I have to WP and run back.
I loved the whole idea of removing trinity in the beginning but now I am seeing it’s actually not as fun as knowing someone has your back like in WoW or GW, if I make a stupid mistake I can be helped by a healer or a tank can take whatever aggro off me. But here I’m all alone, even with in huge events, because everyone is focusing on themselves not others.
Isn’t that counter to what they wanted with all this community talk or is it supposed to be every man for himself? Pretty lame if you ask me.
Logged in today after a few days break, level 50 D/D thief.
So I’m in Diessa Plateau, I see there is a world event.. kill the giant. Ok, I go in hoping that by now ANet have fixed the 1 shotting BS but alas, first I try daze to rupt his stomps, doesn’t work. Then I try blind, doesn’t work. Then I try dodging, very iffy but works for a while.
Start using Death Blossom, with some timed intervals watching the bosses movements to prepare for stomp, and found that I died while in a Death Blossom. Twice, mid animation. After running from the WP a few times, already frustrated after 5 minutes in the game I logged off.
No idea who thought of all this 1 shotting but by now it’s pretty old. Really really old. I never liked this in WoW, or any other game I’ve ever played, and I hate getting punished by attacks that I simply can’t dodge at times. DB is supposed to dodge attacks but I can’t actively use endurance during it so I was f’d both times due to the mechanics of the boss.
This gives me 2 options. Range, or log out. Or a 3rd option that would never happen, infinite endurance. Seriously guys, fix melee. I’m not going to bother playing a game that punishes me for playing my way when it boasted about being able to for so long.
Been a long time GW fan, played GW1 for 6 years along with WoW. I always loved GW for being that unique game and always something to play when the grind and hilarious unbalanced pvp overwhelmed me in WoW. But I can honestly say in GW2’s current state, WoW is the better game.
Sure it has had years of polish and GW2 has only been out for whatever amount of time. I get that. I’m just saying, maybe fixing melee should be on the list of priorities because to me it’s completely broken. For the love of christ remove all the 1 shots. At least make it two.
It really feels like a slap in the face when I go down in 1 hit in every meta event or dungeon when sometimes it’s purely impossible to avoid the damage. That will be the end of this rant… delete or flame idc. I just hope something major changes, because I am not looking forward to pandaville. Till then I’ll be patiently waiting, at level 50, to progress to 80 without getting angry.
inb4 bad, game isn’t for you, etc.
You can get up to 190% damage on your backstab if stars align, add a crit to that and it’s just sad. Not to mention the multiple stacks of might you can get as well with a glass cannon build you can 1 shot people all day.
Come on guys, obvious troll is obvious.
It’s the Ezio set from Assassin’s Creed, only cool hipster thieves will use it, incredibly rare! /endsarcasm
I don’t want to comment on most of this, as I largely don’t care about ‘nerfs and buffs’. But this point drives me bonkers:
Random isn’t fun
This is flat wrong. Random is very, very fun. It’s why slot machines exist, and in fact dominate most casinos. It’s why Roulette and Craps exist, despite eating money from the players.
Random is quite fun. Please don’t go on a witch-hunt to get fun taken out of the game because you don’t find it useful. As has been pointed out, there are plenty of other choices in that exact slot that you’d rather take, so please take them and let scrubs like me to take our “bad” but fun choices.
Sorry but I thought we were talking about a video game, not real life.
Random is not fun nor should it be anywhere near a thieves skillset.
It shouldn’t even have a cast time. It’s a 1s stun and sucks. At least it could be used as a rupt if it was instant.
No dungeon finder. Just a simple window that would go something like this.
name —- lvl(?) —- looking for
player 1 —- 42 —- AC (S), AC(E)
player 2 —- 40 —- AC (E)
player 3 —- 28 —- DEThis will be server wide list, not zone wide, so you can go out any where in the world and see and be seen by everyone on YOUR server. Then you just have to click on the name, send a whisper if they are looking to do what you are and form groups. Without spamming chat, and without ‘groups are hard, make one for me’ LFD that people are talking about here.
You keep social interaction this way. And keeping it server only means how you act, behave and play will grant you reputation among the server community. Making people accountable for how they act. If you act like a jerk, you will gain that rep and soon find yourself unable to get groups as easily. If you act respectful, helpful, good player, you will be known for that.
Very much this. I suspect this is how the function that’s already in the game works but no one EVER uses it because it’s so hidden… (press Y)
Holy trinity is horrible, but that’s not to say ANet doesn’t need to improve though because they definitely do. For example, dying in 1 shot to unavoidable damage is never fun. This is still new, so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and gonna say it will get much better.
The channeling attacks still following you even when flanking the target while stealthed is complete bull. The attack should still go through, and even hit you, but only if you’re still in line of sight, in front of the attack. Unless it’s AoE, then of course it should still hit. It should not follow wherever you go…
At this point it’s extremely obvious that people are hopping on the “thieves are overpowered” train for the hell of it. L2P, I have no problems obliterating thieves on my war and mesmer unless I’m already down to half health at which point, they should be able to burst because that’s all they got besides backstab crits.
I know may come as a surprise to many of you, but you can utilize cripple, teleports, invisibility, daze, endurance, and immob among other things. It may not be GW1, but it’s still Guild Wars. Build against the meta. Bring counters, you imbeciles.
Skritt if not Tengu.
Agree’d. They are largely boring in comparison to GW1 missions, which were actually long and well thought-out. Story mode in GW2 feels cheap and unimportant.
1) I agree
2) You should have traded in-game gold for gems instead of wasting money, it’s insanely good ratio right now. I have 2000 gems and put maybe 2 gold or so in…
3) Are you serious? Lol.. it’s a reward for Guild Wars vets, if you really think you deserve those rewards then earn them yourself. WE would be the ones cheated if you could access these rewards for nothing.
“I liked the part at the end where it was Guild Wars”
I’m all for it, I hate the fact that there is fall damage in the first place. In any game. One thing I loved in WoW on my rogue was a passive talent that basically reduced any fall damage to zero unless you were jumping from insanely high distances. Should be like this any character imo.
