WoW ruinned people. I blame WotlK for that.

Wotlk was awesome though, Cata is a better example imo. People weren’t facerolling the main boss of the expansion and getting raid geared in a couple days during Wotlk, that I remember anyway. You can literally afk in raid finder and watch a movie lol.

I think the stat’s need to be removed on cultural armor. They make people think that it’s supposed to be end game gear to actually wear when it’s not. They are purely for transmuting, unless you can actually afford them at the appropriate levels and even then they will get replaced quite fast.

Agree’d. I actually have to build towards my 3 or 5 on daggers to even make use of them. I would very much like to change those out for skills I’d actually use, for example I don’t use death blossom on a backstab build with no +condition damage and I don’t use 5 on a condition build because I don’t have crit or use stealth. I want to use ALL of my skills, and not waste initiative in the process for some mediocre damage.

I’ve built a hybrid condition/crit thief because I like using all of my skills, but it would be nice to change them out so I could use different builds and still use those 3 and 5. It’s pretty boring as-is.

I’ve come to the conclusion that some people just like to complain. Instead of listening to them, just continue to play the game and have fun like you are now.

Welcome to any MMO forum that has or will ever exist. People will cry about anything, and grind has turned into “lol everything is just a grind including logging in..”

Leveling a melee wasn’t a waste of time, but fighting a boss in melee range is. People will just tell you to go range and no class has a specific melee or range roll, but the truth is melee is horribly bad for any type of pve content except for normal enemies and some faceroll elites. Enjoy getting one shot, or go range. Or be a thief where you can dodge constantly and get an entire 7 seconds of melee time in on the boss (then back to range)

Most “open-world” PvP has always been about people with power issues. The ones who actively seek out lower leveled players, or other situations where the other player has no chance, or you’re just pushing people off of things are there to get their kicks and feel better about themselves. They dont value honor or things like overall wins. they want that personal moment where they feel powerful for being able to affect other people.

That said, having a jumping puzzle in a designated pvp zone is a very silly idea unless it gives pvp rewards.

Pretty much this, think of a WoW pvp server. That’s what WvW is. Horrible, imo. I don’t think there should be any pve in pvp zones like puzzles or mobs except for NPCs in your base. Just virgins on a power trip, don’t bother trying to do the puzzle, or get a bunch of people together and try and do it.

Clearly the fact that I’ve been able to survive at least 2, maybe 3 hits before dying in other games has made me incredibly bias in Guild Wars 2. Yes.

I like your signature. Have you actually tried moving, evading, switching weapons, porting in and out? You know, playing your class properly. As I thief, if I don’t do those things, I get 2 shotted. That’s why when I am tired I play a guardian…..

Because clearly I’m referring to regular mobs.

I am talking about champions and WvWvW
Your point again? If you don’t move and you stay toe to toe with a Champ, you gonna get obliterated. What’s wrong with that?

And I’m talking 1 shot mechanics, for example dungeon mobs/bosses. And some champions have the same. 1 shot kills shouldn’t exist, it’s poor design. 2 shots sure, because you have a chance of surviving and can heal up, giving you that chance to dodge the next hit etc. 1 shot is just hilariously lazy design.

All the mobs that I saw one-shotting sort of gave enough warning to try to evade (and all the times I got smashed I wasn’t paying enough attention). People really have to learn how to play this game (including me of course)

I don’t disagree with you, I can obviously run a boss multiple times and learn his skill queue’s but are you saying 1 shot mechanics are ok? Because I disagree, and think they are lazy horrible design. I simply don’t find it fun when I go down in 1 hit.

Your post isn’t very relevant when you assume I’m not moving and using my skills… just silly. I faceroll most content, fact is a lot of bosses and mobs are incredibly overtuned and kill me in 1 hit. I’ve done pure vit and toughness builds on thief, they don’t scale well with medium armor clearly.. because I still get 1 shot.

A thief has to depend on evades, and they aren’t unlimited. That 1 second where I’m not evading is literally the 1 second where I die instantly, vs almost any boss. It’s silly.

I’ve been an Anet customer and player for 7 years, and loving GW2 so this doesn’t come from you average QQ nublet who died in DoA, I facerolled DoA with all kinds of setups.

Colin is missing a point here.

In DoA there was no mob that could one shot you, not even Aatxes in UW for that matter.
In GW2, some mobs and bosses are one-shotting a full defense Guardian with Protection up.

If that is intended fine, we’ll use some gimmick to overcome a cheap, poorly designed difficulty, but it’s clear that instagib is not good design.

Hit the nail on the head here. This is what I’m trying to say in every one of my posts. 1 shots are not fun, they are lazy, horrible design.

All I care about is them doing away with the 1 shots. If the damage is avoidable and noticeable then I don’t mind. There is obviously a bias, every fight favors range, I can prove this by going shortbow and never dying or running out of initiative as opposed to going melee and being completely screwed once I inevitably run out of initiative and cooldowns (in like.. 6 seconds), being FORCED to retreat and go range. This is MY problem. I can play my way, huh ANet?

Suuure, looks to me like every class is forced to go range or die repeatedly. I’m sorry if I roll a thief to play melee, this has nothing to do with trinity or being bad, I simply enjoy playing melee in any game I’ve ever played. If I wanted range, I’d roll a ranger. I like that you have both melee and range there for when you want it, but it shouldn’t be forced like this.

That said, it’s not like I am staying melee obviously or I would be dying 24/7, I have adapted, but it’s a lot less fun. And I seem to remember Colin writing and entire article on “is it fun”…. no, it’s not fun being forced to play a certain way. It’s also not fun dying in 1 hit, get this through your thick skulls ANet please.

Yesterday I was in Diessa Plateau and I had seen the event where some separationist elite NPCs attack a charr base but I finally caught where it began. There are 4 or 5 separationists running to the camp, from a reasonable distance (from one of the separatist camps I think) and the leader tells you they are on their way to make a peace treaty with the charr. When they arrive with a box of goods for the charr as a token of peace the charr destroy the box instead and that’s when the fight begins.

You really need to pay attention to get the full scope on how stuff happens and why. There is story, you just need to look for it. The world is alive, this isn’t WoW. I only found this because I decided I would follow the NPCs to see if they would do anything significant.

In the past year I haven’t played any MMO’s. Mostly just single player RPGs.

But my MMO history is as follows.. GW1 & WoW (started around the same time) from 2006-2012, but I quit warcraft when Cataclysm hit that expansion made me die a little inside. And since I had done everything in GW1 I was just waiting for this game… bored as hell. WiK and WoC content kept me alive though but didn’t last very long at all.

I was smart enough to dismiss all other horrible MMO’s that have come out recently as obvious WoW clones that brought nothing new to the table.

I agree with a lot of what you say, but ANet pretty much abandoned anything that was really Guild Wars with GW2. It’s more like WoW2.0, if you want GW play GW1 because there isn’t any of it here.

That said, I don’t think this is as bad as you make it out to be. Yes, it’s unfortunate and I am bothered by it too. But it’s still got some awesome pvp, at least…. I can’t be bothered to pve much from all the 1 shot deaths to bosses that annoy the crap out of me.

Great graphics, classical ANet style art, and generally a game I can see myself getting used to, I didn’t jump in GW1 at the start either. In fact it felt really really weird at first and took me almost 2 years to get into GW1 seriously. But after I jumped in, I played for 5 years straight.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I feel ya, but this is what we got. A decent, dumbed down MMO.

One shot mechanic is completely ridiculous. It reminds me of D3 where they stated it was a challenging experience, but 1 shot =/= challenging. Challenging is actually taking the time to develop some strategies on the AI’s part and having to figure out the strategies and counter them, or mechanics.

I repeat. 1 shots are completely and utterly ridiculous, can’t believe it’s in the game.

Exactly, a better way would be to reduce you to 70 or 50% health so you think “oh crap maybe I should look out for that animation next time, that hurt!” Instead of “umm… how did I die?.. that was lame.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
