Well if you disagree with one feel free to post something else than just saying it’s OP… thanks @ everyone else.
Been requested many times before but as always, /agree
The only thing you enjoyed was hearts? Lol all of my “what.”
But seriously, if you’re not into story or interested in exploring I have to ask you why are you playing an MMORPG? I am flabbergasted! Since you didn’t mention pvp, have you even tried it? And I mean with a competent group of players with vent/skype because it’s fun as hell. Hotjoin spvp with a bunch of randoms will drive you mad.
Both for sure1234
Just going to bump this thread to let others know that it’s a known issue… I tried to ignore someone today and found out it doesn’t work
You can thank free server transfers. As soon as people noticed we were losing at WvW like half our server left… lawl what a joke, and then people complain about long queue’s because they went to one of the most popular servers there is. And that isn’t the only reason, people transfer just to transfer because it’s free, no one cares.
The game used to be pretty balanced but now some are bloated and some are seemingly “dead”. But it’s a big world.. even in WoW where the supposed 10 million people play, you wouldn’t see anyone in lower zones because they were obviously in the higher area’s. Sidekick system doesn’t mean squat when you don’t get lvl 80 rewards in a level 30 zone. Pointless. This is how all MMO’s work, everyone is at “end game”
When Orr is dead on your server, then you can come here and complain.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
I’m just hoping they add xunlai chest in the Cantha expansion and have those be the costume storage, either that or just bring the NPC from GW1 back. And yeah, why the HELL aren’t rare materials able to be held in storage? This makes zero sense to me.
Sorry Jack, I had to ignore your posts, typing like that just isn’t necessary lol.
@OP I understand where you’re coming from, thieves are definitely bland compared to other professions. Just compare D/D Elementalist to D/D Thief. Their gameplay is 10x more active… lolwut?
I am always a thief/assassin/rogue class in every MMO I play so naturally, I’m used to being the underdog boring class with stupid gimmicks. All you can do is either reroll or wait for updates. Something keeps me playing these characters and I don’t know what.. but no one can seem to do it right. sigh

These would be my dream traits more or less, but I believe if they nerf the damage and damage traits, that this kind of thing needs to happen so the thief has more access to group buffs (group vigor/swiftness.).
Venoms are fixed this way (50% faster recharge and the cool down on the heal removed allows us to heal our group with it as effectively as shouts.), and Traps are fixed too (throwing them allows better ways to defeat opponents and set up battlefields.).
Several Damage traits nerfed, several utility traits buffed, more access to boons and better protection.
(edited by Moderator)
Credit goes to Daecollo
Some of them are the same, some of them changed, but this makes the thief more passive after they nerf our classes damage abilites.
Back Fighting has been removed, the thief automatically deals 25% more damage on his downed abilities. (reason: nobody takes this trait, its worthless.)
Keen observer has been removed. (because its worthless, a thief is almost never over 90% health unless hes using a backstab build which kills people faster then they can count, since they are nerfing it, this trait needs to go.)
Side Strike has been removed and moved, it is now Critical Strikes 5 point trait.
Opportunist has been removed, its nerf on beta to make it 1s CD made it worthless for pistols, its been changed so its good for every spec instead of just a few. It has been replaced by quick breaths.
Signets of Power has been removed, its only good for a couple builds like backstab and old pistol whip.
Thrill of the Crime’s buff was changed to be 30 seconds, but what it grants has been spread around all to be more passive.
Thief now has 2-3 different kinds of group utility if he specs for it.
Deadly Arts:
Given Traits:
5: Serpent’s Touch: stealing applies poison. (10 seconds.)

III: Mug: Deal damage when stealing. (25% less then before.)
IV: Venomous Strength: When applied, each venom’s grant 3 seconds of fury.

Critical Strikes:
Given Traits:

Lol underwater group events are literally untouched 99% of the time. In all my time of Orr I can honestly say I’ve never taken part of, or even seen anyone attempt them. Who would want to.. underwater is horrible.
Regular veteran giants are easy, but I’d like to see you solo the undead one in Orr that summons grubs(the boss version)
^Well said. Just hope ANet doesn’t succumb to the QQ like so many before them.
I think intentionally stopping players from completely a jumping puzzle, which is a PvE activity, is griefing. This is exactly why you shouldn’t be putting PvE kitten in a PvP environment. Its just stupid.
This. It IS griefing and those kids should get a ban if they do it for hours at a time, but it’s really ANets fault… seriously it’s never a good idea to put pve in pvp.
Was anyone able to salvage the Mad King's footgear they got from the Clock Tower?
Posted by: Rukia.4802
Just like karma gear, can’t even salvage the rune. :/ I guess instead of giving you 1.5 gold selling a useless pair of shoes for 2 or 3s was a better idea in ANets eyes, great reward for that puzzle amirite
This video is the best representation of how thief can use nothing but shortbow + dagger/dagger.
This guy DOESN’T hit hard at all he try to kill this ele with autoattack (wich is the purpose of the build) with no chance. We need an alternative first then ANet and all of haters can ask for nerf on bs build.
Seriously? Your trying to turn my post into ANOTHER one of those threads. It was a toughness/healing elementalist, they are tanky as hell.
I think what he means is, we have pretty much just autoattack and C&D when a d/d ele has like 20 abilities. I play both proffs and do admit when comparing them thief is a total joke in terms of variety. Both are different playstyles though..
Using WvW as a basis for pvp nerfing/buffing is a very bad idea. It’s not even balanced pvp, nowhere near. It’s equivalent to WoW battlegrounds, just a zergfest with no real strategy. Spvp is equivalent to arena, where they should be balancing around.
It’s not the fault of my thiefs damage that they are supposedly perma stealthed in WvW ( I don’t play that crap) that is the fault of the stealth or render bug. Fix that, don’t nerf my damage…
Not everyone runs the kitten glass cannon BS thief, and BS isn’t even the problem. It’s a combination of traits and utilities to pull off a plethora of damage in a short amount of time. Nerfing BS is just DUMB
Compared to any holiday event in any other MMO ever? Definitely a 10.
Rating purely out of how much fun and amazing it was? 8.5 to a 9.
It was overall really great but some things could have been done better, and I know they probably didn’t have much time to test etc. I am not complaining, just being honest. The clock tower could have been done better, although I’m not sure how, without making it instanced. The oversized characters were incredibly annoying and hard to focus while doing the puzzle.
I only accomplished it when I did because I was the only one that made it up, would have been improbable with a stupid charr in my face. I failed 90% of the time because of this.
The pumpkin achievement wasn’t something I would expect from ANet, largely boring and unimaginatively grindy. I just entered overflows to keep resetting the pumpkins. I wouldn’t have even considered it without that method. I forget the mini game name but people hiding outside of the map and running around with a slooooow character was so boring I just left the game half the time.
The rest was great, mad king fight was interesting and funneh. Always has been one of my favorite GW characters.
ANet always has the best holidays. Oh and ToT bags, those have always been awesome since GW1. And I got an exotic recipe (dang you, EL tonics! next time!) from them
(edited by Rukia.4802)
No.
Add ons, such as wows, functions like hacks and cheats. They are nice in the begining, but sooner or later they will force players to use them.
Who raids in wow without a dps meter? Who can heal effevtively wirhout healing Addon in wow? How about powaaura that shows when your abilities are ready?
Addon changed the way blizzard design wow. They built their game around those addons because everyone is using them. Allow addons in gw2, and anet will be force to follow blizzards footstep.
Hell, who raids without DBM these days. A mod literally telling you what to do / when to do it, what the boss is doing and when etc. just terrible, and you would be laughed at or kicked out of the group if you didn’t have it because learning a fight on your own is taboo in that game. There are also mods that even do your rotation for you, you just hit what it tells you. We would be getting addons that tells us when to dodge, etc.
Yeah, I think we could do without addons. Forever.
I think it would be pointless to make T3 exotic. By the time you saved up enough gold you most likely have your set stat’s and such, I would prefer the cultural armors have no stat’s so people will stop crying about the quality and price. They are for transmuting.
It’s the only thing you can get and be unique with without having to depend on RNG like legendaries… honestly I’d love more sinks like this. And people with lives are able to afford T3 you are just mad, get to farming brohamlet.
I just loooooove how the edit button disappears at random.
I wanted to add that I get what ANet was trying to accomplish with Orr, and I have adapted to it. I didn’t want to just make a post QQing about it but there are things they need to fix, not completely change the zone though. I believe it does give the more rare mats higher value because people just hate running through the zone and gathering etc.
It does have its purposes… but that underwater…….. /rage
Oh and go figure, the edit button appears the instant I make a new post.
Also, underwater is not a better option. They’ll use Dart, an animation-less fast move that can kill you in less than a second.
Yeah what is up with that seriously??? Who thought that would be a good idea? #1 reason I don’t enter water, way overtuned. I should mention I have like 2500 defense on my thief, and it still hurts the hell out of me. It’s literally instant too so good luck dodging that. 2 of em and you stand no chance trololo
(edited by Rukia.4802)
It IS extremely annoying, I made a post about this as well not too far back. Don’t even get me started on underwater in Orr, it’s like, 10x worse than land if you can even fathom the possibility.
Going to the lower zones it feels like I’m playing a totally different game than I was in Orr. It’s just hilarious… but I’ve gotten used to it by now… STILL annoying though. And I’ll STILL never enter water in Orr. I may kitten through the land part, but man underwater it’s the same setting just more awkward + annoying plus my skills totally don’t fit my build under water so I’m at half my strength.
Traps. The only thing useful is ambush. It’s powerful even without VA.
Condition removal, as has been said. There needs to be more practical methods than just going shadow arts and having to stealth. I personally run a support BS build and often have the trait but I really feel for those other thieves.
Moar support, please. More ways to spread regen to my party members than just SR. Maybe make shadow’s embrace effect party members as well if you stealth them.
Moar boons? I feel we have great offense but let’s see some more support coming from thieves other than damage.
It’s WoW rogues all over again, we’ll get nerfed to the ground thanks to a plethora of uninformed terrible players and be useless for many months but the skilled ones will still own and all will watch in envy, your tears are delish~
To be fair, ALL classes need burst toned down. Burst should come from a coordination of attacks by multiple team mates, not from one person. And haste needs to be removed from the game seriously who’s idea WAS that?
…..unless you’re a unicorn thief.
Anything non – risen, there’s a reason it has been said multiple times already.
WoW has excellent customer support, everything else sucks.
Some of these replies have me literally rolling. Personally, the human female short hair was the best imo so I made my thief with one, which is my main. I was originally going to go norn. I had been set on that race for years before the game shipped but unfortunately I am not a fan of their hair.
And, I’ll admit I love to play dressup and make hot avatars. umad? or jelly of my T3 cultural?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/On-Botting-and-What-We-re-Doing-About-It/page/13#post377170 here it is your post. Look for the mods posts guys, no need for creating more posts….
Thank you sir for inept ability to realize that this post was made a month ago and the problem is in fact getting worse instead of better. They also prevented any more responses from being made to that thread.
I spend money in their Gem shop. I’m a paying customer who is unhappy and therefore I choose to voice my opinion. Don’t like it? Don’t read it.
Can I have your stuff?
I’ve never played a game where mobs were especially difficult or smart in normal “quests” compared to dungeons or raids. You really expect every event to be a challenge like dungeons?… if you take them for what they are, a replacement for quests, then isn’t it kind of far fetched to expect that much of them?
Don’t get me wrong.
I’d love for them to be more intricate and non zergy but this is how every MMO has ever been. Well, except for the part where in other MMO’s you usually hate seeing someone else near your mob and rarely do you party or work with them because EXP and loot is either not shared or it is penalized.
What yo guys are asking for would probably alienate a lot of the playerbase. Most people don’t want that kind of challenge in the ‘normal’ pve world.. that’s just what dungeons are for, I’m afraid. Maybe ANet could pull it off, who knows.
That mob is hilarious. He literally fixates himself on ONE person, and sticks to that person the ENTIRE fight. As long as they don’t die, that is. When he’s frenzied (or w/e makes him hella fast) it’s hard not to die sometimes lol but I rarely go down on my thief thanks to mobility. I think it’s kind of fun actually, being the person that needs to kite him.
I would like more mobs to be crazy like this and with a huge group his HP pool isn’t what everyone makes it out to be. You just want events to end faster so you get more rewards… enjoy the fight or do something else. Too much kitten zerging for lootz.
I wonder how scarred they would be if they saw a beached whale in real life gasp I saw one as a child and I didn’t turn out a serial killer or an anti-social otaku so I think they’ll be ok.
Agree’d. Above all, burst needs toned down. Period.
You wouldn’t say that if you were a ranger on the ranger forums. Only after the huge explosion of dissatisfied players flocking to the forums did they bother to even have a single post on there by a developer.
Rangers are getting a rework, and like I said, if a bunch of people expressed their hatred… haha
my opinion on Anet listening is going to be sort of skewed until i see thieves put in line with the rest of the classes.
highest burst damage, highest condition damage, easiest ways to escape combat between stealth and teleport, fastest persistent run speed increase…. its obvious someone at Anet has a real thing for the class.
they may have changed a couple things you like, but seriously, people keep complaining about this one class and its just been allowed to be in a different league than the rest of the game.
I would suggest playing a thief so you can see both sides of the fence. And try spvp tournaments with friends or guild mates if you want to experience any sense of balance. You really can’t expect not to run into a ton of glass cannon kitten thieves in WvW or hotjoin spvp. Of course they’re going to hit hard, build a bunker to counter them?
I disagree on nearly all accounts (exploring does feel kinda forced with PoI’s etc.) and I enjoy my ele. I suggest D/D it’s much more active if you switch between every element and the stuff you can pull off is pretty amazing.
The story isn’t perfect by far but it’s much better than any other MMO I’ve played, other than GW1 because missions and story were done much better in that imo. Most MMO’s I’ve played don’t even give you story but just a bunch of quest text.
And if you were referring to the story in JUST the events, well those are just events. Some are more elaborate than others. They are no different in terms of quests you get in other games. They tell a small story about what you’re doing and you do it. Only more real-time with VA. I like them, some I loved like in Orr.
Oh, and just like in GW1, the VA isn’t the only story there is to find out. If you talk to the NPC’s after or before events you can get to know them better, ask what they’re doing and/or why they are stationed there etc. but you have to look.
Well I think so yes, adding new professions was very common in GW1. They have to be adding Tengu as playable. If they don’t, I will throw an asteroid at ANet HQ.
Yeah this transferring for WvW wins needs to stop.
People actually pay money to jump to winning worlds? Dang.
I think I know a way around this. People’s accounts would be transferred at the beginning of a new WvW match.
Pretty sure transferring is still free..
I think the server transfers need to start costing gems already, that is the #1 problem. People abandoning their server to join the one that just owned them, which really isn’t the way to go. Oh, and then they cry about queue’s. Queue queue moar if you know what I mean. Come join Sorrow’s Furnace, we could use you.
I found 2 back to back yesterday literally seconds apart, random is random.. before that I think I went over a day without finding one. One day I probably found 10. People always think the rates are highered/lowered depending on their luck but the fact is usually they haven’t changed at all lol
Btw, is anyone else wondering if ANet is going to do double rate drops like rares or dye’s or whatever like they did in GW1?
@Ageia I met a GM in LA during the halloween event. She just /danced and emote spammed with me lol oh and she said “:3”
I should have taken an SS.
I will give ANet one thing, they listen to the community. Look at all the changes that have been or are being made to the game.
I have seen more dedication to the players in the 2 months this game has been out than I’ve seen Blizzard give in the 5 years that I’ve played WoW.
I was just visiting some other forums for crits and giggles when I saw a topic about resurrection sickness. It was and still is such a stupid mechanic that essentially stops you from being able to play the game for 10 minutes (you are completely useless in combat) because your stat’s are reduced by 75%. That’s for rezzing at a spirit healer. You would need to do this if for some reason your corpse was in an unreachable area, or you didn’t want to waste 10 minutes running to your corpse. These players have been asking (me included) for that mechanic to be removed for years.
At least we don’t have things like that in GW2. And if there was, ANet would listen to the communities hatred towards it and remove it immediately. That said, there are still issues with the game but I believe they will be addressed and it could be much, much worse.
When I truly compare services nothing even comes close to the similarity in mindsets between the players and the makers of this game. Because after all, they are gamers themselves and actually play their own content. People say us MMO players have been spoiled? No.. we are only just now starting to get spoiled.
I liked being a healer in other MMOs more than any other role, but I particularly enjoy it in GW2. It’s not a game where you’re standing still and mashing 3 over and over to keep a boss from killing your tank. You have so much more you can do, and probably need to do, to keep people up and running that it ends up being a much more active experience.
Let’s be honest, this is completely wrong. Compared to trinity MMO’s GW2 combat is very bland. I hate trinity as much as the next guy but I play thief and really, depending on my build I either mash 3 (yes, that is all a unicorn build uses, death blossom.) Or I mash 5 and 1 in my backstab build. There was so many more buttons in WoW on my rogue that I could go on for days saying how I had much more utility, healing, etc. to say there is more to combat in GW2 is a blatant lie or simply a misunderstanding on your part.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy GW2 A LOT. The actiony combat is fun, but it’s also very limited. Maybe it’s different for other professions, but I hardly have any combo fields of my own and the ones I do have cost a large amount of resources or have insanely long cooldowns like shadow shroud… Maybe if they made all the passive effects in our traits into more skills that we actually USE then skills wouldn’t be so limited/boring.
On topic: I miss healing too. Specifically monking in GW1. Very hands on, had to focus on the field intensely and I just love that kind of play.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
It’s not a big deal, you aren’t forced to do anything. I hate WvW because I get 10FPS there but you know what? Once I realized ANet is going to do nothing to optimize the game and I need to buy next gen PC parts I slug through it without whining anymore.
The human female T3 got me hahahaha
There will always be those people that are looking for speedruns, so you will be required to be good and max level etc. just ignore those and make your own group, it’s REALLY not hard… took me all of 5 seconds to form a group “LFM MK all levels”
Godspeed you magnificent feline. May whatever comes next treat you kindly.
I see what you did there.
Ok here is my 2 copper.
Tower: Next time, I’d like 50 charr not be in my face.. that is not fun at all but rather frustrating, please let me see my character, thanks.
Pumpkin achievement: boring as all hell, I can’t believe I actually finished this up today. Yes, optional and all, but seriously boring, I would expect these kinds of achievements from Blizzard, because that’s all they have in their events and I HATE them with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. I’m also a bit OCD and want to get all the achievements so of course I do them anyway… sigh.
The 2 mini games: Not bad, all in all a fun experience but the maps are just way too huge and running around trying to find the last person who is hiding behind some wall on the very edge of the map is such a borefest half the time I just exited out of the game. What is fun about running around doing nothing for 5 minutes?
Labrynth was cool, I liked running around with everyone and at least that made carving less of a chore (more of this, please) but of course it’s no different than all the other zerg fests with boring boss mechanics but that’s for a whole ’nother discussion.
ToT bags, I love that there is a (supposedly) small chance of getting EL tonics out of them. I probably had over 1k opened and got nothing of real value but at least it gave me something to dump all my candies on. All in all loved this, but more drops couldn’t hurt.
The mad king fight was pretty awesome, as with anything it got repetitive after a while but very good representation and jumps always add difficulty, though they could have been a lot harder in that regard. The only thing I’d ask for here is a story mode, I was really hoping for one tbh.
My closing statement will be, nothing short of what I’d expect from an ANet holiday event which are always top notch compared to any other MMO out there. And don’t give in to the QQ about mad kings tower, us “hardcores” (it really wasn’t THAT hard) also like a challenge.
I got it in about 20 or so tries? I wasn’t counting but it took me under an hour, that much I know. My brand new 80 thief opening chest.
Mad minus points to ANet for having everyone start at the same time, all the charr and crap made it impossible to see my character.. I thought it was pretty low and the most frustrating thing, but got it anyways because I’m a pro the puzzle itself wasn’t that hard.
Edit: Not sure how you all had speed boosts, since all skills are disabled I didn’t bother trying to equip my 25% increase, how cheap it would have been 10x easier.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
None, and the people complaining about drop rate for skins should really stop. A gamble is a gamble.. it was your choice to waste the money. I chose not to, and still had fun, bought the mad king costume though because it’s awesome. Those skins are supposed to be rare, if they weren’t everyone would have them and that kinda defeats the purpose, no?
Should have kept it to about 40 dollars max on keys imo.
Can’t hurt, I’d love it for when too much crap is going on but during fights where I actually need to pay attention I’d just zoom right back in. It was amusing… I thought it was going to be permanent, but go figure it was just a bug…lawl, thought ANet was just listening to the community.
