I made a thread with notes they just put them up
lol
We all know where they get posted. I don’t think you needed to make a whole thread to link to another thread. In any case, I’m happy to see event fixes, moreso if they do work out. And the personal story fixes are bound to be great for anyone stuck on certain missions!
99% of people on this forum go straight to general or their class forums and ignore the rst.
I made a thread with notes they just put them up
17 mb patch isnt a big patch
It can be very big in terms of statistic balance, obviously it’s not a content patch but a patch is a patch and can range from loot buff to skill balance to disconnection fix.
Also as others have said it’s much more than that.
I’m expecting “routine maintenance”, yet i’ll notice jormag is now on a 6 hour timer and one of my skills doesn’t work.
This is also a major possibility unfortunately.
More loot/drop nerfs i should guess …
Lol right?
Awaiting patch notes, hopefully something other than nerfs..
There is nothing for December in news and announcements but my client just did an update before logging in… anyone know what was in it?
(edited by Moderator)
The fix isn’t released yet in 3 weeks == They aren’t listening?
Can we get past this argument? Can’t we all take a reasonable view and maybe assume that the fix isn’t released yet because they are working on it and it’s not yet in a good state to release safely? Is that too much to ask?
And all they gotta do is post that on the forums instead of being silent about it.. people keep telling ANet communication is key yet they continue to ignore every complaint because that’s just easier I guess, even though it gets them a ton of flak.
I honestly don’t get game devs. Ignore your community = good? Is it really that hard to make a forum post explaining what’s going on? Does it reaaaaly take that much time out of their day?
I would submit to you that running P/P so you can be lazy and do less damage at a safe range is exactly the same as people who run +vit/toughness gear instead of full berserker so they can be lazy and miss a dodge. As soon as you jump on people for not going full-offense gear and dodging everything, you can jump on people for using a sub-par weapon set.
I run toughness/crit/power/healing power with 15k life and I spend half my play time reviving my team mates. Not an exaggeration. Running full damage and being the best player, you are still going to die much more often than someone in a toughness + healing set. And I don’t do it so I can take a hit instead of dodging, I do it for the attacks that I can’t dodge. It’s nice, not dying in one hit.

Speaking of classic GW1 builds such as Touch Rangers, just to bring back some memories, recall:
55 monk
SF sins
B/P rangers!! (almost forgot about that one)
CoF/VoR Mesmers
VoS Derv Runners
Charge War Runners
SH/SF eles
SS/SV/orders necros
MM necros back when there is no limit to minions concurrently alive
Mending Warriors
Apply Poison/Burning Arrow Condi rangers
Trapper Rangers
LoS/Infuse Health monks before LoS nerf
…Oh man, now that i’m thinking back. Skills used to be interesting, and given thought could form new decent builds. While most of such builds aren’t the best, and eventually fall out, they are a lot of fun
Don’t forget Ranger thumpers, backbreaker sins, shockaxe wars, boneti’s WoH monks, and the other thousand builds we could use. Haha I remember the days you could get away with running 55 monk in AB and be a god because they were all noobs.
I also made a 55 sin once, yea you heard right.
I think 3-4g an hour is in the right spot but I don’t make near that doing dungeons and with most meta events dead in the world that’s all I do now..
I would like it if bags of gold had a chance to give one gold.
So much this.
I stopped reporting, honestly there are just too many it’s a hassle. ANet needs a GM per server to run around addressing the issue head on instead of relying on us to send 250 reports in per bot, but hell if Blizz refuses to do this for the last hundred years and ANet never did it in GW1 either I don’t see this happening.
I know there a ban command, and I know for a fact ANet has banned innocent people so their “investigation process” is not flawless in the first place, bots are soooo blatantly obvious I see no down side from just banning them on the spot.

Trinkets drop from mobs or get them in Fractals. No crafting required.
Good luck getting a full set of exotic trinkets of the stats you want that way XD Even getting ONE exotic trinket that way would be a miracle.
I’ve been playing GW2 since early launch and I have not found even one trinket, rings or otherwise. I imagine an exotic trinket specifically would have a 1 in 10 billion chance to drop for me.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing, would be kinda weird. Anyway yeah, thanks, if anyone can answer the sigil question feel free
I will venture to say that it will get worse. They want you in the cash shop.
The less you can make ingame, the more likely you will open your wallet.
That’s not the case though, I won’t buy anything from the store if this is how things continue. Not like I do on a regular basis but I like buying skins and such, loot being at an all time low and no way decent way to make gold means no incentive to do anything. I don’t want to play the market, I don’t want to buy gold off the cash shop, I just want to play, and yeah that includes farming. I don’t mind farming, but apparently ANet does.. they think it’s some evil force yet we were allowed to do it for the entire duration of GW1.
It’s so obvious what they are doing I can’t believe they are actually doing it – and staying silent about it. Just low. They are only tarnishing their name more and more every week/month and it’s honestly just very sad to me to see my favorite company stoop to such levels. I am just an old GW fan though they don’t care about me, only the new demographic grinding away and most likely throwing money at the cash shop making things worse for people that don’t like being forced to pay a monthly fee, let’s face it this isn’t much different.
They nerf every possible farm but dungeons, further demolishing the population of tyria in general, not to mention fractals but they’ve admitted to that fail. What they haven’t admitted is they are trying to force players into the cash shop, and that will only leave a bad taste in everyones mouth. This will back fire, trust me. That’s why I’m not even mad about it simply disgusted, they’ll learn their lesson soon enough I’ve seen it happen tons with games and cash shops.
My disappointment in ANet and this game just keeps adding up, idk how much I can take.
All I know is I might be breaking off GW2 fo a while until this crap blows over.
grind more gold or pay cash. that’s the way it is.
And there it is, this is one of the major reasons why people are quitting the game in masses. Gold grinding is extremely boring, still reliant on RNG and the grind is pretty intense if you want anything decent ~ and finally, you have cash ~
While I don’t disagree, I always laugh when people say that others are quitting the game in masses. It’s like when infomercials say it’s what everyone is RAVING about when it’s obviously not true lol. Although I can easily see people leaving over the horrible TP pricing and loot or lack thereof right now.
There isn’t too much to log on for atm.
If people want a server to grief each other on, I see no problem with it.
Nexon & friends got some good things in store for us!
Anyone else logging in running multiple dungeons, doing events, etc. and feeling zero progression in terms of wealth? This seriously needs addressed more than anything else right now. STOP NERFING FARMS….
I agree, most people I meet in game are aware of the forums and use them. Through the years more people have started using gaming forums to express their concerns.
They said blatantly from the very first announcement that GW2 would largely be a continuation of the story, not the gameplay. And they made this change because GW1 was one of the most flawed gameplay systems ever, it was meant to be PvP driven yet was dependent on PvE sandbox customization. The system they made may have been great to play with but was heavily flawed and impossible to balance.
Umm, I disagree. Can’t really go into detail without heavily insulting you so… yea.
GW1 had fine gameplay.
I’ve heard Alt + drag
Ctrl+shift+H, I believe.
You mean the old one? -useoldfov in GW2 command line
Give me factions and I’ll overlook a lot of the hatred I have for ANet right now.
I would pay 400 dollars for a well designed assassin class. Thief is… meh.
Telling him to farm is pretty silly, seeing as how every farm has been nerfed and if another shows up it will be nerfed to. Pretty sure ANet wants more people to buy gems instead of playing the game to earn their wealth. I do dungeons and come out with pretty much nothing worth mention. Woo, a gold or two a day from 3-4 dungeons. Nice rewards, bro! Not. I wish these places were about 10x more rewarding because I don’t exactly enjoy zerging events 24/7 to make cash.
We’ll see in the next months whether ANet makes this worse or fixes it for the players that don’t want to dish out real money to acquire nice things in game. I would hope for the latter.
Really?
You call legendary nice thing?
LEGENDARY WEAPON are the most rare and unique weapons ingame, they are long term goal that only the MOST HC and dedicated players should achiveve.
HAS anyone even actually thin about why legendary are so hard to obtain, why are they so expensive? So only small portion of players will have them. ARENANET already said that!If you want nice thing for your 2-4 hours a day, you can buy weapons from those dungeons or craft some corrupted, etc ones. They are nice, infact there are a tons of nice things which dont require so much effort.
Legendary weapons are the most exclusive weapons in the game. For those who spends more time in Guild Wars than in real life. For those who actually works for it. NOT FOR EVERYONE.
That’s fine, but there are no good ways of making gold unless you buy it, that was my point. Calm down.
Lol no. Not even close. GW2 ain’t a bad game for sure but it doesn’t have anything I loved from GW1. That is a quote I like to bring up often when comparing the two games and I will translate for you. “GW2 takes everything you love about GW1, takes a dump on it, and puts it into a persistent world.”
Now I don’t want to get infracted, but this is how I see it. They should have come out right and said this game is nothing like GW1 so don’t expect it to be, certainly don’t say it takes everything we love from GW1 because that’s misleading as all hell and completely untrue to the max.
To put it simply: GW2 is basically the opposite of GW1.
Telling him to farm is pretty silly, seeing as how every farm has been nerfed and if another shows up it will be nerfed to. Has anyone confirmed whether or not healing power affects sigils like water or leeching? And other than the CoF armor vendor, do the rares from other dungeon vendors have the potential of ecto? I haven’t found any from salvaging except for the CoF rares. Also someone mentioned to me this may be an exploit, is this true? It’s the only way to make money now. Thx.
Yes loot is beyond horrid right now, to make any sort of income you need to grind dungeons and buy rares for tokens salvage them for ectos and sell on TP.
And I’m sure that will be nerfed soon too, “no grind” lol k. We aren’t allowed to make gold ingame unless we buy it with gems.
Can you trigger an offhand sigil with your primary? Say I have a sigil of rage (quickness on crit) on my offhand dagger and I crith with my 1 skill which uses my primary, will it trigger? I haven’t tested it myself to confirm or not but I always just assume that I would need to use my offhand skills or dual skill to trigger that sigil in any way, for instance C&D.
So 5% crit sigil is only offhand crits if I have it on my offhand or is that both main and off?
[thread hijack] better than making a new one I suppose.
Just checked the wiki and found this at the bottom in notes:
Charging and stacking sigils can be used together.
Some more information about sigils there too
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil
Haha that helps thanks, missed your post.

He ragequit to avoid getting killed.
You should really add LoS (line of sight) to your OP, because I don’t see enough people use it enough and it is one of the most useful tools in your arsenal especially if you are being focused. If you see a rock or pillar, basically any object in the world you can hide behind it to get that damage off you.
Also, always have a ranged set on you. Some bosses are specifically designed for ranged. Like the boss in CM where a bunch of rangers are up top and you have to hide behind the door and range him down, when I was still newish to the game this hurt me bad because I did a bunch of fights just standing there and reviving team mates because I thought GW2 said “play your way” but the truth is, ALWAYS have a range set on you.
Slightly off topic but I feel it’s an important part of combat.
Combat is not just range or just melee, it’s both, although you’ll never find a mob that favors melee.
Assassin was my main in GW1, but the guardian is my main this time around, because I hate the mechanics of the thief. To me, invisibility cloak type stealth is a horrible mechanic for any MMO, and many other genres as well. Additionally, the initiative system makes combat dull. If stealth was removed, my thief would probably be played more.
As someone else said above, I would like to see the assassin make a non-spiritual return with a focus on evasive skills and combo attack chains more than anything.
I would ask for sin instead of thief revamp but honestly do you think they would add in assassin when they have copied a ton of names from GW1 sin to the thief already? Shadow arts, Crit strikes, Deadly arts, Scorpion wire, Death blossom, etc etc. this IS ANets GW2 version of assassin, albeit a bad one.
I think what could be better is “jobs” where you can choose what type of class you’d like your profession to be. Like guardians could be paladins or paragons, warriors could be dragoons maybe using spears and thieves could be assassins idk just throwing stuff out there, it’s the only way I see us getting sins in GW2.
Thieves are being removed from the game, calling it now.
I hope they just totally change the profession into the assassin from GW1 like they should have done in the first place. Honestly, stealth is never a good idea in an MMO even though it’s far more balanced in GW2 than any other.
Stealth is far more balanced in GW2 then any other? Are you serious? WoW vs GW2, a class that can only stealth with skills for a limited time, can be broken out with DoTs or AoE. Vs a class that can invis whenever the thief pleases.
Please….
Rogues have indefinite stealth and tons of defensive abilities, bro.
Thief is balanced completely around stealth unless you’re a unicorn thief, and rogue is balanced around plenty of survival tools outside of stealth. It’s totally different, but rogue also gets 3s vanishes that act the same way as GW2 stealth except they have way more abilities like 4s stun, a long dot, burst damage, sap, etc.
Indefinite stealth to set up an attack, after that, 3s vanish is a lot better then perma stealth builds in gw2. Culling issues adds to it, no doubt. But you can DoT them OUT of invisbility, thief? no. It doesn’t even matter to them.
A long dot? fine, burst damage(Already have as a thief), sap, fine. 4 second stun? I’d prefer a 4 second stun then a thief you just cannot see. I’m sorry but Thief is absolutely over powered compared to a rogue. So your previous comment is a joke.
I disagree. I play both games and even the sorry pathetic state rogues are in right now they are still less balanced than the GW2 thief. But we should probably stop arguing off topic or we’ll both get infracted.
I’d be okay with this, since it would also make SoM even more valuable. Not to mention, as you said, it would make sense.
What would be also cool is if it fired 8 shots, then fired both guns at the same time for the final shot for extra damage, similar to 100 Blades. I’m kinda disappointed ANET hasn’t used any simultaneous shooting animations for dual pistols.
All in favor for a Barret power shot from FF7?
Owait, warriors already got it

Well if stealth was removed obviously it would be compensated… I don’t just mean removed and thief is just left at that.
Personally, I think this was a bad idea to begin with. I knew there would be an influx of bads crying about how thieves are OP, no matter what state they’re in because.. well, that’s just what happens to stealth classes in MMO’s.
No one likes them.
I loved the Assassin from GW1, much, MUCH more than the thief in GW2. I would rather have a combo system (lead into offhand into dual attack) and more out of stealth combat options.
I’d rather they just remove stealth as a whole tbh and make us more as swashbucklers / assassins who can dodge and briefly move through the shadows (teleports)
Stealth really isn’t needed and it’s only a cause for massive debate and QQ.
This is my opinion, feel free to disagree and explain why. Btw don’t worry if you’re in favor of stealth because at this point ANet wouldn’t even imagine removing it. I’m just curious how all you other thieves feel.
Been thief since BWE3.
I’m in favor of straight-up reducing back stab’s raw damage in favor of buffing it in some more synergistic ways.
Even though I play the spec because I like raw damage rather than condition, done right I am also in fanvor of this. Maybe a medium-large cripple or with traits a source to gain protection or retal, things like that to give it more flavor in trade for some damage.
The only problem with this though is that BS does a very small amount of damage compared to glass when you run a balanced build. Any nerf to backstab in terms of damage is only going to hurt balanced that much more, so the trade off would have to be very significant for these builds.
So when is A-net planning on responding to this thread to let us know what they were thinking when creating it, and what the purpose of this thread actually serves?
Also, when will they lock it down because it clearly derailed some time ago…
I get that they wanted feedback yes, but there are more than enough common themes appearing in this thread by now.
Should we assume a patch to the class is incoming based on the common trends of this thread?
I only hope they can overlook all the whining.
+1, good sir. I wouldn’t hold my breath though. Frankly, the way this thread has gone, it almost looks like this thread was the extent of their plan.
I’m sure more nerfs will be forthcoming anyway. All while Flanking Strike remains busted, Pistol Whip remains kitten, Dancing Dagger remains initiative expensive, etc. Christ, I’m having flashbacks of playing SAM in XI… and they were hated on like this even without a strong PvP mode in that game.
Thieves are being removed from the game, calling it now.
I hope they just totally change the profession into the assassin from GW1 like they should have done in the first place. Honestly, stealth is never a good idea in an MMO even though it’s far more balanced in GW2 than any other.
Inb4 WvW culling.
Oh, add the option to replace useless skills, not just for thieves but for everyone. Seriously. I haven’t touched death blossom once in the past few months. Why? Because I’m a backstab thief and I get my AoE from shortbow. 3 is literally useless, and that just doesn’t feel right at all.
God I hate the skill system in this game. Why can’t we at least change out 3 for another 3? Say, I take flanking strike or pistol whip instead of death blossom. Then I’d actually use every skill on my bar.
Oh wait, I haven’t used dancing dagger since the over zealous nerf. Should fix that too with some sort of balance seeing as how I can kite way better with my shortbow, being on a build that doesn’t have a ton of initiative return unless I’m stealthing. 4 initiative for a weak cripple is not worth it imo.
Revert the damage nerf and add “loses 25% damage per target hit” or knock 1 initiative off, or add a longer range, something. SOMETHING!
Thanks for reading my rant.
Oh, and the profession is boring as a whole. I want a combo system instead of straight up hurrdurr damage. Initiative doesn’t really make gameplay interesting. Take more things from GW1 assassin and implement them here. It will do the thief some justice.
It’s autoattack city up in here. Spamming 5 > 1, 5 >1, 5 >1, 5>1, 5>1 isn’t all that interesting tbh. A rotation in WoW had 10x the variety as this, hell go play a D/D Ele then play a D/D thief and tell us we have a fun profession. Seriously, do it.
I don’t even have time to autoattack on my D/D Ele. I’m too busy hitting skills left and right on each attunement. Why isn’t thief more like this? Needs more action, less “meh.”
(edited by Rukia.4802)
Agree with you OP, compared to other proffs boring for sure but you mentioned the WoW rogue, I’ll inform you that rogues no longer have that “build up” they once did with epic finishers. They are like 70% passive damage from poisons and autoattack, Blizz essentially ruined the class. Both rogue and thief are about equal in boringness at the moment.
I guess everyone missed the part where I said “big groups”
We should just make C&D cost 15 initiative and take away the sneak attack damage bonus.
People in that video are horrendous and thief is not OP. I mean really, watch the 2nd fight that guardian literally stands there and lets the thief kill him…lolwut? Bot much?
It’s called waiting a split second before coming out of stealth and using cloak and dagger again, you are only seen for maybe half a sec if that. I’ve done it before, it’s easy in big groups. With the 2 refund initiative trait when stealthing you can do this for days.
You only get the revealed debuff if you damage someone while stealthed.
Also, putting down a smoke field with pistol and heart striking through it 3x will net you stacked stealth duration, so will standing in shadow refuge.
There are a couple ways to “perma stealth” but the smoke field way is actually 100% perma, you will not come out of stealth nor run out of initiative if you trait for it.
It’s a pain looking through 10 pages to see if someone replied to your comment when you leave a topic for a while. The system on GW2Guru is amazing, I suggest you put something in the code that would PM you when you were quoted.
tyvm
In Lions Arch you can buy a power level reader its about 45 Silver. Mines over 9000.
I wish this was true.
Not sure what to say about this. I have like, 1300.
The lack of the trinity freed the people from being forced into parties and do as they want. And personally, if someone is too much about correctly targeting and if they get all worked up about the way I play I get tired really fast. It is the major reason to solo unless some one is a friend or guild member I know. Many times these players also quit in the middle of a dungeon and are the worst pugs who put the whole party on edge (and quit)
This is why I never mention how bad the players are doing. If I say “hey, you can press T and focus my target..” I feel they will take it the wrong way and retort with some drama which always happened in WoW or GW1 when I tried to give tips. Everyone assumes elitism, etc. “but let me play my way, ugh.” to which I will reply “but, you’re hindering the party…”
It’s even worse when I tell people to dodge certain abilities “shut up kid some of us have lives” etc. the typical reply from baddies, so now I just hop from group to group hoping to find a good one, and this includes guilds.
Sure, play your way when you are alone, but in a group, why not work towards a unified goal together efficiently? It makes zero sense to join a group and play solo imo.
1. When did you begin playing? (post bw’s)
BWE3
2. how many hours total do you have? (/age)
276
3. What’s your most gold banked so far?
100? IDK.
4. Do you have a max level character (s)? (number if more than one)
Thief.
5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / tp; where you spend most of your time for income.
Cursed Shores, until Plinx was nerfed.
6. Do you mainly use MF or not?
No.
7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?
Only exotics I’ve got is armor pieces.
8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?
Never got an exotic weapon, no.
9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?
None lol.
10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?
Oh I don’t expect any in this life time.
11. How many lodestones have you looted total so far? (all types)
Zero.
12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
LW, for the exotic starter armor.
13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
Meh, I just hoard them.
14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
Hellz naw.
15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
BUILDSKILLVERSITY. That’s a mix between builds and skill diversity, yes it’s a word (trust me).
I guarantee name change would increase revenue immensely. It really doesn’t make sense that they add a complete character revamp without the name.
I’ve been waiting for name change option since release, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to find a name I liked for at least a month considering every single possible name and combination I liked were taken the instant the servers went live.
So I am running around with a silly stupid filler name, and I’ll probably never get to change it. ANet seem to be slow in the head when it comes to the most basic of issues.
It’s not annoying, people just mad and jelly. Although they will deny these are the reasons they are mad and jelly, (lol) ignore them.
