I admit that it would be nice if achievement points had more to them than bragging rights
Was thinking about it earlier already, why not have some exclusive skins or something that you can buy if you get x amount of achievement points..?
Well that wouldn’t fix the problem because using methods like mass-salvaging would be extremely easy and those skins wouldn’t be very special.
The problem is those infinitely resetting achievements.
Because according to ANet “GW1 was stagnant” and didn’t have enough vertical progression gear-stat grind.
I guess the thousands of builds we could make in GW1 was not ok, we aren’t allowed to have fun or use strategy… welcome to GW2 lol where we “play our way”
^Also missing the point, and I disagree with your opinion.
I also played NES, genesis, etc. what do those not having achievements have to do with MMO’s and this topic? Nothing.
And they are not pointless if done right. It makes an experienced player stand out, but in GW2 you can’t even compare achieves or see what people have done so yea I guess pretty pointless in this game, just like I said.
You’re just yet another casual. I feel like I’m talking to a brick wall here.
The game feels anti-melee because it IS anti-melee.
Melee is viable but ranged is far too faceroll to justify the dangers of melee.
And there is the obvious point of some fights actually requiring range.
Tell me, is there a fight that requires melee?
They aren’t pointless. I just spent 200 towards my Legendary.

Nevermind, close the thread lol.

Ooooh, somebody’s angwy, lol.
You said they were pointless. I said I used 200 of them, thus negating your statement regarding their usefulness. And yeah, end the thread, but not because of casuals or whatever you want to call everyone who doesn’t play JUST LIKE YOU, but because some of us are tired of all the QQ threads like this.
Find some wood,
Build a bridge,
Get over it.
No you just completely missed my point and have no idea what achievement points even are obviously. But hey, I’m just angry so what do I know.
And on PS3 a patinum trophy means they completed every other trophy (PS3 version of achievements) meaning they did everything possible in the game pretty much. Sorry if that was confusing.
Btw I am not elitist, it’s just that casuals completely disregard 99% of things in an MMO because they simply don’t care about them, then why even post?
They aren’t pointless. I just spent 200 towards my Legendary.

I didn’t realize Steam’s or Xbox Live’s achievement points were supposed to mean something
If someone platinum’s a game on PS3 it shows me they’ve conquered the entire game, done every achievement, etc. Of course it means something… otherwise what would be the point of it all?
Terrible trolls are terrible :/
They definitely need to do something in the Guild department Guild Wars without any Guild Wars is like ordering a ham sandwich and it being delivered without any ham (no offense to vegans, Jews, Muslims and Hindu’s).
Lets just be honest nothing outside of 25man+ raiding with huge raid size dungeons will satisfy hardcore mmo’ers and without the defined trinity of role’s that isn’t going to happen in GW2.
Maybe ANet can try their luck at reputation/faction grinds.
Uhh rep grinds are not the answer for sure. I agree though, without raiding or defined roles this game is as good as dead to any real MMO player aside from the super casual.
A while back someone posted their 15k achievement points by mass salvaging (or w/e they did) because for some reason there are achievements that reset in this game infinitely. Keep in mind this was only like a month or two after the game released.
In WoW for example if my character has 15k+ achievement points it shows I’ve done a crap ton of content, I’ve collected mounts, pets, played for YEARS, raided, killed rare spawns, obtained legendary gear, pvp’d, participated in events, etc.
Why would I actually hunt achievements when someone could get even more than me by sitting in LA? It kind of defeats the purpose imo. I can’t even see my own title displayed by selecting my character, as there is no option to select myself or see my own name.
There are far bigger problems with this game, I just felt like pointing out how useless they are so maybe the infinitely resetting achievements will be stopped because it REALLY takes away from it all.

Already mentioned earlier in the thread, “bugs and exploits” doesn’t explain much.
Someone found another farm, nerf’d with ANets swift justice….
Source? Or just guessing?
Just guessing but chances are I’m right. Clearly they don’t want us to know about it, w/e it is and every other farm nerf has been ninja so…
Oh kitten they did it again.
“We’ve updated the game to fix several exploits and bugs. ~RB2”
Because we loved when they didn’t tell us what they changed/“fixed” last time.
Someone found another farm, nerf’d with ANets swift justice….
Even WoW has cross realm zones now that fills dead zones with people.
GW2 gettin’ left behind in the dust lol
Well here’s a fact because people seems to compare this game to others. When guild wars came out the next expansion wow came with actually lowered the amount of skills you can have and use on the bars. Rift’s expansion actually did the same thing too. Showing that maybe Anet actually was on to something. If two of its biggest market share competitors copied it so blatantly.
Interesting fact because WoW was released in november of 2004 when GW was released april 2005, BC didn’t hit WoW until ‘07 and in the case you are talking about when guild wars 2 came out, MoP did not lower the amount of skills you can use… my bars didn’t change much at all except for some abilities being made passive and I got new skills to replace those so..
There is no endgame unless you count grinding the same dungeon 24/7 end game.
You should really just stick to WoW and take GW2 as a facebook app you play when you’re bored cuz it’s hardly an MMO.
Incoming nerf to guard
GW2 is horribly optimized and it never will be if the zero updates to it in the past months was any indication.
Sometimes you’re lucky and your computer can run it fine, sometimes you’re not.
GW2 pvp in general is so horrible nothing will fix it at this point other than a complete rework. I imagined pvp without healers once, and my fears were true. It becomes nothing but mindless zerg with people 1 shotting each other, absolutely ZERO strategy involved.
And dodge is just a horrible mechanic in pvp. I never liked it when it was passive in other MMO’s, and I don’t like it when it’s active in GW2. People should not be able to just loldodge whatever you throw at them. Block is another TERRIBLE mechanic. I mean really, how long it lasts in this game is just silly with a 100% block chance, wow…. clearly they put some thought into pvp.
Then again without any true healer I guess that’s all you have to prevent all the instagibs in the game. In GW1 if I were on a monk and he used shield bash if I was on my game I could stop my attack, prevent the KD and 20s disable on my skill and I wouldn’t be hit with some kitten “cancel cooldown”.
But I see no active way to counter dodge other than making them waste it and some silly builds let them have near infinite dodge. E-sports lol rofl there isn’t even resource management in the game, it’s designed by noobs for noobs.

ANet design baffles me on so many levels, one of these days I’ll break my face from palming so hard. Bots are not on a time schedule, they don’t care if they hit DR. Players DO care.
Bots DONT buy gems. Players DO. That should clear up why they have this system.
Truer words have never been spoken :/
The issue is self control.
No, I’m not one of the power levelers. I have a level 70. That’s pretty much it.
It’s just the time ingame allows for no error.
Maybe it’s not that the game is too hard for me, but maybe just too hard to be fun.
I know what you’re saying, there is no relaxation. The game tries to challenge you constantly which really gets tedious, challenge should be exclusive to dungeons and raids imo. I mean, look at how much most people hate Orr…
Assassin. Just take every reference from the profession in GW1.
Lead/Off/Dual attacks and the combinations you could pull off is what I miss most.
We have one, it’s called a Thief.
Thief is Thief. Not Assassin. And it sucks horribly.
Blame ANet for a horrible stat based system, not the players. Of course the majority is going to go glass cannon… because there are no real tank or heal specs.
Windows 7 is awesome… I was an XP fanboy too, but it’s just old now and unsupported.
It’s especially noticeable in caves, I recall one where I had to fight 3 or 4 mobs while making my way in then a mob inside and I read a book or something and it spawned an elite. I killed it and by the time I was done, which only took me a minute at most, every one of those mobs were respawned.
This is the typical spawning in GW2.
I posted this in another thread but since this is specific DR discussion I deleted and post here.
DR was NEVER aimed at botters. It’s ANets version of a “raid lock” except it extends to every single pve activity in the game. It’s meant as a ‘you can only play for this long’ kinda thing, unless of course you don’t care about getting any drops.
I guess they thought it would pace people and keep them playing longer but for me it does the opposite, it’s currently the #1 reason I don’t log in at all anymore. I refuse to believe ANet is stupid enough to think DR would stop bots.
I saw something very similar in Diablo 2. Blizz implemented the Realm Down feature, which would limit you to 20 games per hour or something like that, and each game had to be at least 3 minutes long. This of course didn’t effect the botters in the slightest, all they did was design the bots around the system and it only hurt legit players.
DR needs to be removed ASAP and I am not playing until it’s gone. If I don’t have the freedom to actually play the game without being punished for it, then I will not play. It’s pointless. Just think, really think, how ridiculous this system is.
ANet design baffles me on so many levels, one of these days I’ll break my face from palming so hard. Bots are not on a time schedule, they don’t care if they hit DR. Players DO care.
Kiba from GW1? Nice shield..
To be honest, yeah I do want to “win” the game. Winning means you can move on. For me in GW1, the two biggest accomplishments you could get in the game were GWAMM and the maxed HoM. After that, I stopped playing the game. Why? I felt accomplished, my memories of GW1 were nothing but positive, and I had achieved the ultimate in-game achievements. The game wasn’t subscription based, so ANet didn’t lose any money when I stopped playing. I don’t really see why GW2 has to be different.
Because they’re not yet done with it? How long did it take before they even had that concept? IIRC, you had to get your obby armor to be able to get that full hall. How long did you have to spend just get to grind out that armor? How much PvP work did you have to do? Have you even come close to putting that much effort in, yet?
Pvp titles never bothered me because it was actually good in GW1 and took half a brain to excel, not roll thief and lolderp. Obby armor was never that hard to get except for the beginning of the game because DR wasn’t nearly as horrible as it is in GW2 and I don’t remember DR at all in the beginning of the original GW. I can SC dungeons all day if I want in GW1.
And personally no I haven’t put that much effort in because what’s the point, you hit a brick wall with DR if you play this game as an actual MMO instead of some casual facebook app. Like I said, winning in GW2 is being rich IRL.

Assassin. Just take every reference from the profession in GW1.

They never meant anything in the first place, no challenge just grind and pure luck.
Being rich in real life.
When was the last new 25 man in WoW? Realy? What 3, 4, 5 years? The don’t get made anymore because People Don’t do them.
What… I guess running my 25 man mogushan vaults raid yesterday was just a figment of my imagination then?
I agree with OP there needs to be bigger grouping and way more enter as party options.
The respawn timers in this game are very primitive. In fact I say it makes a mockery of the game. No tactics are needed. for example. In the char first zone there is a little gully in the rocks with some rich copper nodes in and it is protected by three vet’s and some standard ghosts I tried using skill to pull them out in small groups. it was going great and I was enjoying myself until they start respawning behind me. So it occurred to me right then, this game is not about skill it is about running with a zerg.
WoW respawn timers are dynamic so we all know it can be done. The more times a mob is killed the faster the respawn. In new content when they release an expac the zones respawns are very fast because there are alot of players around, as the content gets older the timers slow down.
Interesting I’ve been playing WoW for years and I never knew that about the respawn timer, but thinking on it now it makes a lot of sense. Great system.
Dying to see their comments on loot and DR lolol.
My question is: Will DR be removed and loot buffed dramatically or should I just go ahead and quit the game indefinitely, this is a serious question for many I think.
Until a satisfactory answer me, my friends and family will remain in pandaland.
No monthly fee doesn’t save you from horrible design.
For some reason ANet thought the perfect costume system in GW1 was bad so they made costumes in GW2 useless and not useable in combat oh but hey you can play the terrible brawl game with them that’s a plus..
Downscaling is pointless when the rewards are inferior to the end-game events. This alone is why downscaling has had zero effect on whether or not people revisit old content.
What’s the point in going back to them when you could do any event in Orr and get way better rewards? I don’t see any reason for downscaling it at its current design.
Builds. Where are they?
Skills. Where are they?
GvG. Where is it?
Halls. Where are they?
Trading. Seriously not even going to bother with this.. such a stupid idea to completely remove the trade system. I cannot even fathom the thought, it just baffles me.
Strategy. There is none.
Hey remember that one time when ANet said we could play our way? Yeah, me too. I enjoy being a healer in GW2, said no one ever. I enjoy being forced to range in GW2, said no one ever. I enjoy being instagibbed by buggy dodging mechanics in melee range, said no one ever.
Stat’s on gear. Bad idea. This is not how GW ever worked, other than runes and armor level. Our customization always came from attribute allocation which affected our builds based on what skills we were using. Why are they going from unique and interesting to boring and grindy, needing multiple sets of gear with different stat’s?
Pvp balance. What’s up with all the knee-jerk nerfs that ANet supposedly doesn’t like doing?
Bugs. I’ve ran into the same damn dodge bug for months now, while in melee usually during an autoattack if you press dodge it will hold you in place and not even work right. Also the immobilize bug where your character randomly gets stuck in place and you can’t do anything, that’s a great one too.
Loot nerf/farm nerfs. Lol I don’t even- obviously this is a ploy to get us into the gem store, no more needs to be said.
Lack of Depth doesn’t even begin to touch the surface with what is wrong in this game. It’s the lack of intelligence coming from the dev team imo.
Yeah…. more flawless ANet balance, so far every nerf I’ve seen for thief/mes is completely kneejerk like the 50% reduced damage on DD with zero compensation.
Their so called dislike for huge nerfs that disrupt things is complete bull. They don’t even think on the changes at all, just throw an over zealous change out there and see how it handles.
Oh and it doesn’t matter how it handles, because the community is ignore anyway.
I want to hear the reasoning behind nerfs with nothing in return instead of their trademark silence. I’d like them to actually communicate with the players.
Dungeons are not raid difficulty so no.
In short, no they’re not.
Thief is definitely the most played in pvp from my experience, due to the ease of just facerolling and not really needing to learn the profession too much compared to the others. I main a thief and I’m honest about it b4 you rage at me.
I found mesmer hard to master, probably the class with the highest skill cap in the game imo so it makes sense they are one of the least played.
In 90% of my pvp matches I have seen probably at least half of my enemies are thieves, the typical backstab glass cannon and heartseeker spammers then there are the 100b warriors although I am seeing more thieves every day. Then there are the haste longbow rangers right behind them along with guardians and ele’s and honestly I don’t think I’ve seen a single engineer in a good while.
I see a healthy amount of necro’s, or maybe it’s just they are obvious to spot idk.
This game is a lot like WoW pvp in the sense that people go for the FoTM classes (flavor of the month) whichever is most OP or easiest to play, that will be your #1 played class.
I will not comment on pve because I see a good amount of everything except for maybe mesmers.

How doesn’t it? You do know what DR is, right? Diminishing Returns on rewards. It’s a direct counter to farming. The way it works if if you kill one type of an enemy too much you will start to get DR, and it works in other mysterious ways too.
It doesn`t work that way. As of now it is account-wide and world-wide. Meaning a guildmate only logs for half an hour Tixx run and gets rares. I play for 6 hours straight on three alts, never staying in one location or on one activity more than half an hour (openworld, wvw, dungeons, tixx etc) and have ZERO return. No rares, barely any greens. I play around the same time every day, so I guess the 24-hour cooldown on DR just never drops for me.
What are my options? play an hour a day and spend all other free time in another game? because I have nothing to do after work ( it`s -20C outside, not much room for outdoor activity ). I can`t see how it is in any way “better” for me.
I do not enjoy the grind this game came to. I do enjoy exploring the maps, doing hearts and dynamic events. I spend most of my time in open world on lower-level alts, and switch to main to do dungeons or wvw with my guild. I come online earlier then they do, and spend my time on alts, effectively kicking DR into work. But I enjoy playing on alts, why am I punished for this with reduced drops when I switch to my main? I still cannot finish non-MF combat exotic set on my main because it requires too much grind now.
That’s a perfect way to describe how players act towards grind-based MMOs. They lie to themselves into believing they are a good thing, while in reality they are just time sinks keeping them hostage.
How come you decide what I want to do with my time? Leave my time sink alone. Any computer game is a time sink. Making yourself believe you could do something meaningful while you play is plain stupid. In any game.
You’re right and I have no clue how DR works because its behavior seems to shift at random, I was just going by what ANet stated, which is probably just another one of their lies. I also haven’t been playing lately so obviously I’m not getting hit with it as often when I only log in for an hour.
It actually interferes quiet often you are in combat most of the time when leveling imo. It only lasts a couple seconds so it doesn’t exactly leave me raged… but it IS quite silly to have an actual levelup animation that interrupts combat.
There is a flaw in the system. The game has quite a bit of content that requires farming, yet it tries to hinder your farming. This leads to player frustration. And I’m not just talking about legendaries – I’m okay with them being very hard to obtain.
For example, I set myself the goal of getting a corrupted branch staff. It’s there in the game, and I thought it might be a fun goal for my endgame. This requires 30 corrupted lodestones. Having completed the Frostgorge Sound map playing normally I had none. Zero. So if I want to get that weapon I clearly have to farm, yet I’m consitently being hampered by the game in this. It’s not really that great a system.
How does it hinder you in your farming?

Acquisition of Corrupted Lodestones
Icebrood (of high levels)
Corrupted foes (of high levels)
Some Ice Elementals (of high levels)
Chests within Honor of the Waves (explorable mode)
Chests within Fractals of the MistsI’m okay with this. It’s their answer to the favor of the gods from GW1 IMO, except instead it doesn’t limit people for playing at certain times to farm (when there is a blessing). So people can farm at any time they want, but then it has limits set in place for them like the favor of the gods had.
Well opinions are like you know what.
Fact is, it goes against their “we aren’t against farming” bull. I was pointing out their lies and slander. And favor is nothing like DR, GW1 already had DR I’m surprised no one mentions this but if you farmed in one spot too long you would get reduced drops.
I was hoping this crap would be removed but it only got double time worse in GW2.

Also don’t forget you can’t even complete what is it, like 4 or 5 dungeons within a 2 hour time frame or you will get a ton of DR. You can’t even grind what they are pigeon holing the entire populous into without hitting it.
Basically there is very limited freedom in the game, you can only do so much of one thing before being forced to do something else because your drops are being reduced and drops are already horrible to begin with…

GW2 has some of the worst loot of any RPG game, period.
I beg to differ. WoW has the worst drop rates in any game that I’ve ever seen.
This game practically throws loot at you everytime you turn around.
You must not have played WoW in the past few years. Blizz literally hands out epic gear for zero effort now. GW2 RNG is a billion times worse.
So other people have to learn that lesson too, good. I am fairly tired of 4signet/for great justice warriors anyway, that think their main weapons are those little rocks in downed state.
You have reached midlevel gameplay, time to adapt to different situations. Would you play this game because it is a cakewalk to 80? Sounds boring as hell…
It is still a cakewalk, you just go ranged and faceroll everything. “sounds boring as hell” you hit the nail on the head there.
Yeah pretty much Azur, unfortunately that’s what the game has become.
Personally I have gone back to WoW, I’d rather not get disappointed every time I log in to GW2. Just waiting for ANet to stop evolving into nexonblizzardnet
At least Blizz doesn’t hide the fact that they’re greedy pigs and love charging me 15 a month.
Personally I dunno if anything will save this game other than a total makeover. No trinity really takes away from the team play. I at least need a dedicated healer in my MMO.
Makes setting up kills that much more fun dropping a CC chain then blowing someone up. GW2 pvp is total garbage… 10x worse than WoW and that is saying something, it really is.
(edited by Rukia.4802)
At some point I would like to see MMOs simply have one server.
Elder Scrolls online is going to do it. They call it a mega server.
From what I understand it’s essentially a ton of overflows.
I feel the same way. There is basically zero variety for builds. I absolutely loathe traits, I want tons of skills to play with like in GW.
GW2 doesn’t deserve any praise, let alone GOTY.
If this was Nov 14th or earlier I would argue vehemently with you over that…
It does deserve some praise though. Some parts of it have really become crappy since mid Nov, but the rest are still pretty good and worth playing with.
I voted for it, though I don’t expect it to win this time around.
Yes, some praise. Praise for the most developer lies. Praise for the worst class balance. Praise for the worst storyline since Mass Effect 3. Praise for the worst PVE content. Praise for the most bugged MMO released in years.
Guess you haven’t heard of SWTOR.
I agree that GW2 is no where near being GOTY, but the kitten you’re flinging is off-point, with half of it being opinion.
I have. I’ve played it. It’s terrible and eating glass is more fun than playing it, but GW2 is far worse.
Lol nothing is worse than SWTOR.
GW2 is not GOTY material. It may have been before fractals killed the world off and drops were reduced to abysmal rates.
