  1. Ability on sword should cast more on teleport to target but for exchange, less on teleporting back. Also, range has to be toned down to max 900. 1200 is simple faceroll and irritates me. If I kite thief very well on long range, I should be rewarded for that and he has to be punished, forced to use cooldowns or eat damage. Not smashing one “GG nice kite” button!

I believe ranger as an archer seemed cool on paper. Like you can sit at range, dealing decent damage. However, I think they forgot about something called “dungeons”, “tPvP”, “terrible strafe kiting”, “S/D eaz mode #2 spammable 1200 teleport”.

Main problem with Longbow is that the damage from #1 skill is just wayy too dependant on range. Since you won’t be able to sit +1000 in most of dungeons/pvp situatuons/tPvP in general, it does totally crap damage. I knowdevs may like the idea, but really… Even 50% damage difference is way too much. Giving current +1000 damage to range below +1000 and giving around 10% boost to targets above +1000 range would be welcome fix.

Fixed Longbow. Removed range requirement, fixed Barrage to not be lifetime cast, PBS to instant skill, -1 second on Rapid cast, +damage on #1 or giving it some variation under circumstances, like I suggested in my thread for Steady Shot. L. Reflex evading for 900 range, Muddy Terrain twice or 50% bigger, fixed Protect Me and I’m pleased

Muddy Terrain as a reveal on short cooldown… Interesting idea, we’d be best counterplay to stealth thieves. But first thing first, I’d increase the radius and fix it to affect 5 targets. Making it 50% bigger would be awesome, in current state you can dodge once and bam! you’re out of it’s effect (lasting 10 sec).

How to Longbow/GS in sPvP?

20/20/30/0/0 (Make sure to get Piercing arrows and Empathic Bond). LB with Air sigil, GS with Hydromancy/Energy, gear – whatever fits you. If runes of speed will be ever fixed, I’d recommend these. For now I run either Forge or Melandru. Berserker amulet. TU, Muddy Terrain, L. Reflex, SoH, RaO utilities.
Power ranger is probably one of most skill-demanding builds I’ve tried 1v1. You’re in big disadvantage in tPvP as you can’t use any other working 25% perma speed than SoH and that speed is needed. Be careful with weapon swaps. Thieves, mostly Sword ones, will be your greatest nemesis as they can teleport to you whenever they want with one button spam.
tPvP also reduces your damage as you won’t be able to sit on 900
range most of the times so your #1 dmg is greatly reduced (I’m suggesting removal of this requirement, even only for PvP for I dunno how long -.-). As for pets, Spider and Wolf are your biggest friends. If somebody gets to close and you don’t haveany cd on LB, switch to GS. #4 into one a-a chain, #5 into one a-a chain, don’t forget about keeping some damage with Maul. If there’s only 3 seconds left or less on swap from GS, swoop away and swap to LB again, gaining range. Practice. But I wouldn’t suggest this build for any serious PvP atm, it lacks in burst and damage vs. competitive meta players and builds. It’s still fun tho, but requires hell lot of practice, focus, thinking and patience to be any good at it. GL

Hey there,
I’m currently looking for some large,social and relaxed guild, where I’ll be able to do all types of PvE content, WvWvW (especially small group roaming), tPvP, Guild Missions.
I’m 19 years old player with large experience when it comes to Guild Wars 2 tPvP, I love theorycrafting, lore of the game, having fun with people in guild in general.
I’ve been previously playing Guild Wars 1, where I was more a casual player and World of Warcraft (PvE content, but mostly high-ranked PvP, 2200+ 3v3 S11 as Hunter, Hero of The Alliance/Horde Title, 2500+ as Warrior S10 at the start of season)
In Guild Wars 2 I’m most experienced with Necromancer which I’ve been playing since October 2012 (80 ofc). I also have 80 Warrior and currently leveling Ranger(around 60 by now).
I do have Skype/TS, able to play almost every day for 1-3 hours and more on weekends.
Character names in-game: Natchniony (Necromancer), Rosenheart (Warrior), Misspoland (Hunte…shhh…Ranger ;p)
Currently on Desolation, EU.

Ignore him. They’re squishy, but they’ll get stealth from CnD on your pet or any of spirits anytime good thief wants and keep resetting the fight.

@warriorjrd As for zerging, your build is better than mine, but since I use to roam alone/small group, I prefer more condition removal over signets and I run TU since I kite much. Also, I use not really common set of utilities I’d say, but I do very good. TU, Muddy Terrain, L. Reflex, Protect/SoR/QZ. You know, I found out that best weapon vs. most of classes is kiting them properly and staying +1200 as long as I can, so even most OP build can’t reach me anyway

Staff #2: Nature´s Wrath > Master’s Warth.
Use staff throw your “pet” to target 400aoe range900 daze effect on direct hit.
And side effect is up to what “PET” you throw!!
Bear type : get launch.Throw bear to target ha!!
Dog type : get fear. you know dog bite hurt then…run!!
Pig type : get cripple.OUCH!!
Bird type : get weak. I don’t like smell of…
Spider type : get poison. Ewwwww.w..w…It stinky.
Lizard type : get torment. It’s stink!!

As mentioned above, GS goes well in pair with Longbow. As for build, I can suggest going for 20/20/30/0/0 with condi cleasing bond and traveler runes for WvWvW. You have nice condition passive removal, can slot one utility for SoR of “Protect Me!” if needed and still move 25% faster from rune bonus without wastng utility slot for SoH. Works good for me, even for 1v1.

Pets could have a passive effect that if they’re not the target of the ability, they take 50% less damage from cleaves/pierces/AoE effects.

How about something like this:
Symbiosis 1.5 second cast, 90 second cooldown, 10 second duration. Switch health and conditions with your pet. Your health becomes his and his become yours. You share all the boons and effects, but not conditions. Put all your signets on 15 seconds cooldown. If you or your pet die during skill or you swap pet during effect of Symbiosis, you both gain Weakness (5 seconds) and Symbiosis ends - counterplay : you share haste, stealth etc. but also hard CC apart from Fear. So either CC one of you or switching target to pet.

Idd, pet abilities and numbers included in both weapon and pet commands are nothing serious, just pointing some direction and overall idea. I can’t really say proper math inb4 pet-player damage would be adjusted to state I mentioned. Glad you liked my suggestions. Working on traits atm, will release it today or tomorrow. If you play Axe/Dagger Sword/Torch condi tanky ranger build, it’s not that bad. However, if you dare to go power with LB….oh kitten, better be prepared! You have to play amazingly well, when every single thief can close any gap spamming one key! Btw, as power in pvp, you don’t have damage.

@solrik As I mentioned in my post, these ideas cannot be qualified as “balanced” and “well-thought” ones. You know, I’m just one person and may miss some particular cons of my ideas

As for pets dodging- I mean, it doesn’t have to be dodge, it can be evade, for example devouer evade skill etc. I adressed this thing mostly to PvE, but I see where it lacks in PvP design, however, it’s very simple change I think. Pet dodge on button seems great however, but probably requires even one more bind, putting it on return…. Dunno, maybe dodge on quick return click and pet returning to you when you hold the key?
P et damage- I didn’t mean that going BM should decrease player damage. I was talking about damage Overall, when you take total damage. Example: without going anything particular, I do 1k damage and my pet does 250. Going full BM, I do still around 1k damage and my pet now does around 1k damage too. Talking about running to survive – that’s the passive play I don’t like. You should have some counterplay vs. AI following you and dealing damage when your enemy runs away. It’d still do nice damage, but as pet commands are on your weapons and rely on utilities, you have to be active to do something!

As.for Steady Shot – LB desperatly needs some damage boos
and Steady isn’t a thief mechanic, it’s just something requiring more active play, dealing decent damage, but still with great room for counterplay. Also, would help a lot to increase our damage in PvE. Talking about LB going melee, weird idea. You’d have to rework everything for Bow, going for something like World of Warcraft had – under certain range hunter was switching to melee weapon. We dislike that and don’t need that. If you want to switch to melee, swap weapon

I dislike the last part of your idea. Somebody who is good enough at PvE to defeat last boss of tower, cool, give him some cool reward, but don’t force him to wait week or two till current King of Towers logs in,and owns PvE player with his imba Phantasm Mesmer 1v1.

#3.Hunter’s Shot Good as it is.

#4.Point Blank Shot Make it instant cast

#5.Barrage Rework. Now, fires two salavas of arrows, covering smaller area, 1/2 second cast time, arrows hit twice, each for about 150-175% of normal Long Range Shot damage, each tick cripple for 2 seconds. Base cooldown reduced to 12 seconds. If hits 3 or more targets, cooldown reduced to 6 seconds.
Descreption: Current Barrage may be cool sometimes, but it’s hard to land, troublesome in WvWvW due to Retaliation uptime, on long cooldown and not really viable in PvP unless shooting from afar + almost useless in 1v1 situations due to long cast. Short version is cool, more like ol’Barrage from GW1. Animation may be no problem, one of Eir’s fit fine.

b) Warhorn

#4Hunter’s Call Add blind effect. If used while stealthed, additionally Fear(1.5s) foes around you in 600 radius.

II. Pet Commands
Now, that’s something new. As I want to reduce pet’s passive damage, I’d like to have more control over it and be able to use it as a part of my class. That’s why I’d like to add Command effects to some Weapon skills, like swiftness buff on HS etc. That would greatly improve our pets in my opinion, make them more bounded to class. Let’s start!

1. (Longbow 3) Hunter’s Shot – Heket’s Rampage Your pet gains Swiftness (10 seconds)
2. (Longbow 4) Point Blank Shot – Predator’s Strike Your pet instantly performs attack, leaping to be in range, which does 100% normal damage and 10% more damage for each Vunerability stack target suffers from if target is under Crowd Control effect or not moving. If not, pet is knocked down for 1 second.
3. (Sword 3) Serpent’s Strike – Serpent’s Quickness Your pet get 2 seconds of quickness
4. (Dagger 4) Stalker’s Strike – Melandru’s Assault Your pet performs attack which does 50% normal damage. You and your pet gain health equal to damage done.
5. (Greatsword 5) Hilt Bash – Feral Agression Your’s pet next three attacks do 30% more damage and cleave/pierce.
6. (Greatsword 2) Maul – Magebane Strike Your’s pet next attack remove one boon.
7. (Torch 4) Throw Torch – Tiger’s Fury Your pet gains Fury (12 seconds).
8. (Warhorn 4) Hunter’s Call – Otyugh’s Cry Your pet’s next five attacks become unblockable
9. (Axe MH 3) Winter’s Bite – Scavanger Strike Your pet’s next attack inflict weakness and cleaves/pierces
10. (Axe OH 4) Path of Scars – Maim Your pet shadowsteps to your target, dazing it for 1/2 second.
11. (Shortbow 2) Poison Volley – Poisonous Bite Your pet’s next attack inflicts Poison (3 seconds). If target already suffers from that condition, applies 2 stacks of confusion instead( 3 seconds ).
12. (Shortbow 4) Crippling Shot – Lacerate Your pet’s next three attacks inflict bleeding and do 5% more damage for every bleeding stack target suffers from.
15. (Harpoon Gun 3 ) Feeding Frenzy – Bestial Fury Your pet gains Fury (7 seconds)
16. (Harpoon Gun 4 ) Mercy Shot – Brutal Strike Your pet’s next attack does 100% more damage if hit foe with less than 50% health.
17. (Spear 3) Dart – Headbutt Your pet’s next attack cleaves/pierces and dazes for 1 second.
18. (Spear 5) Man O’War – Strike As One Your next three attacks remove one condition from both you and your pet and one boon from target with each single strike.

Hello,
As we see some healthy possible changes coming for Ranger class in following months, and as Devs ask for suggestions, I thought that I’ll compilate my thoughts from multiple threads into one. This thread will be expanded in future.

General
Ranger class is pretty unique as it is, because of Pet mechanic bounded to us. I find it very interesting and working in other MMOs as well.
Please be not surprised I take some suggestions from other games, as we shouldn’t ignore things that work and do not implement them somehow into game because they’re too “mainstream”
However couple things, especially about pet feel very cheesy, easy-mode and too much RNG/AI based for such dynamic game that pretends to be an e-sport qualified.
About pets: They should dodge at the same time ,as evade, as we do and we should be able to bind one more of their special abilities, like charge for Boars, Web for spiders, leap for Wolf etc…
1. First and main issue is AI based gameplay.
I do like the idea that we do our damage via both Character and Pet. However, as AI of NPCs isn’t that great, I can’t stand the fact that pet takes 40% of our damage, doing with it whatever it wants and acting not as part of class, but some random helper.
In my honest opinion, without speccing for pet, it should do about 15-25% of our damage and speccing, traiting for it it shouldn’t be more than 40-55% of total damage provided by class.
Why? Beacuse at the moment overall AI of the game is very passive. For ranger, it’s huge deal, because our pets tend to miss attack most of the times and if they do hit, sometimes they do much more damage than player himself and doesn’t even require him to be active, he can also run away, which is extremaly cheesy, unbalanced and unfair. It applies also for Mesmer Phantasms, and Necromancer Minions (where minions are minor problem as they don’t do that much damage)

Moving on, I’d like to introduce couple things, making Ranger play way less passive, more skillfull, interesting, smooth and balanced. They of course are lacking in design so feel free to adjust them, make suggestion, et cetera, et cetera…

I. Weapons
Keep in mind, damage should be adjusted after pet balance, as it stands above!
a) Longbow

After adding stealth, it got some improvement, however, it still sucks.

#1. Long Range Shot - Remove range requirement. Same damage for all ranges.
If you’re under effect of stealth, or targeted foe is immobilized, stunned or knocked down for more than 1 second, Long Range Shot shifts into:
Steady Shot (1.25/1.50 cast time) which does 250% normal Long Range Shot damage if moving and 325% normal damage if not moving during entire cast. If Steady Shot hits target which is no longer under effect of immobilize, stun or knockdown, it has 20% lesser critical chance and critical damage. Steady Shot has 5 seconds internal cooldown, during the cooldown you fire normal version of Long Range Shot.
Descreption: So, yeah… Range requirement may be cool on paper, but in dungeons and with meta where any class can close the gap in no time, multiple times, it just makes LB basic attack worse and worse. I think attack speed is kind of okay. Moving on to Steady Shot- it’s something that I feel many people were asking about. Let’s be realistic – people like high numbers, everyone likes. So here it comes, tricky way to implement it into the game without messing up with other Longbow skills. Skill which require either stealth or CC to proc and land. Remorseless trait with Steady Shot is obvious combo, as with 25 minor MM trait it’d guarantee crit with this skill whenever you attack from stealth, already implemented into Hunter’s Shot. Other way to perform Steady would be to CC your target. #1 would switch to Steady Shot right after you gain stealth from any source or target is under effect of things mentioned above. Keep in mind, damage is reduced if target breaks the effect and you get normal version of skill right after CC or stealth expires, however, you still perform casting skill if you start in before.
#2.Rapid Fire This skill is kind of nice, however, it shouldn’t follow target in stealth as other channelings shouldn’t. Cast time reduction by 1/2 second or 1 would be welcomed improvement.

Great, great. Seriously looking foward to Blood Magic changes.
Also, very happy about Ranger changes. Even if simple fix from World of Warcraft, where pet, if not targeted directly had 90% AoE damage resistance would be a lot better, glad to see something is on your mind at least.
Really looking foward to Longbow changes, redoing Barrage, removing range requirement from LB #1, adding some hard cast shots maybe as I suggested ? Can’t wait, big hopes. Anyway, will be posting my Ranger fixes on days. Power Range Rangers ftw!

After playing as a power ranger with a LB/GS, I found out that ranger still lacks in being “archer”. Recently, we got some updates like stealth on Hunter’s Shot and I find it great, however we still lack serious damage unless we go straight zerk and pop every cd we have. I have couple suggestions:

First, Longbow. I find range requirement useless and not necessary.
1. Reduce damage of 1000+ shot as it is now, by 5-10%.Same damage for all ranges.
2. LB #1 skill redesigned for stealth.
Surprise Shot- 1.5 sec cast. Damage if moving – 200% normal #1 damage. If not moving during cast – 250% damage of . #1. Simple as that, nice burst damage.
2. Barrage, LB #5. Reduce cd to 10 seconds base. 1/2 sec cast, castable in move. Hits two-three times, each time cripple for 2 sec and 180% damage of each barrage tick as it is now.
3. Make pet evade on our dodge roll. Simple as that.

In my opinion, it’s not a problem to create shiny bling bling armor everyone will be wearing because it reveals kittens. The real piece of imagination, design and art is to create a non-shiny armor which looks adult, is actually an armor and is based upon atmosphere of place where you loot it, type of it, etc. I’ll post some pictures tomorrow since atm I’m unable to due to my mobile.

Imo, the funny thing about our precioussss GW2 is that most of avalible new armors look soo shiny and disgusting, not a single one fitting into more mature themes (few exceptions). It’s hillarious to look at all these people, rollimg human female to make her look like hentai hero or mixing all possible random armors just to be even more shiny. Nothing personal, I just find it funny as hell

Ideas to make Power/Longbow More Viable

  1. Range requirement removed. If hits the target at +1000 range, strips 1 boon from target (2 seconds cooldown). In stealth, renamed to Aimed Shot.
    Aimed Shot(1.25 sec cast)- Does 2x normal #1 damage if casted on move or 3x normal #1 damage if casted stationary(not moving for cast duration).
  2. Reduce firing time by one second.
  3. Good as it is
  4. Good as it is, but make skill instant cast
  5. Rework. 1/2 second cast, 10 second cooldown(8 if hit more than 1 target). Fire salva of arrows, hitting two times,decent damage and crippling with each hit for 2 seconds.

As for traits – I’d like to see some trait in WS tree that increases your speed in stealth by 50%, removes cripple/chill/immobilize on stealth and improves all healing effects while in stealth by 25%.

1. Remove range max damage requirement from Longbow, at least in spvp/tpvp. Really kittens up damage when you can’t keep on long range
2. Change Barrage to more flexible skill, more like Barrage from GW1. Right now the animation seems cool, etc. but it triggers all retaliation damage you might get and once casted, you can’t stop it. Also, it’s not very efficient in pvpcombat because of that casting time.
My suggestion is to keep it ground-targeted skill, but remove cast and now it’d fire couple arrows, moving slower the bigger range is, covering smaller radius, doing decent AoE damage and crippling everyone inside for, let’s say, 4 seconds. Cd should be reduced to basic 12 seconds, but If you hit more than 1 target, basic cd should be reduced to 9 seconds. Here, fixed.
3. Way more control over pets. As suggested above + bindable pet skills such as spider’s immobilize, wolf’s knockdown etc.
4. Fixing useless pet abilities! Seriously, which genius thought that having a pet which special ability is to bring you stick will be valid? I want more utile special abilities, not really ones causing minor bleed, which miss everytime.
5. Condition removal – need a little bit more

1.You can use two elites in combat – One on land, second underwater, they don’t share cd. Helpful in W3.
2.As for Dark Path – use it wisely vs. Mesmers. Most pink class players will try to snare you, port in, cast Sword chain and follow with shatter. To avoid that, when Mesmer goes for combo, cast DP on furthest avalible target (or, if feel lucky, phanta swordsman. Takes practice, but with luck, when Mesmer switches place with phantasm for imbaflurrycombo, it may take you to place s swordsman stands after port^^). That way you’ll totally screw his rotation and get huge advantage without losing any HP.
3.Using Flesh Wurm can be gamebreaking, experiment with that. Unexpected port still confuses most of players and If you roll with DS Life Blast build, it can instantly win the fight by allowing you to put huge pressure.
4.Harder combat trick : When fighting larger group and disengaging, you may use trick nr. 2 combined with Tainted Shackles. Before you port away, wait for Tainted to apply immobilize. Saves asar.
5. Epidemic skill – Personally I think that’ best skill necro has. To begin with – excellent tool to double your conditions. When fighting player who uses some kind of NPC such as Phantasms, Pets, Minions, Thieves Guild etc. If you stack some conditions on NPC, spread them to player, putting insane pressure for example if they’re stealthed. Rangers are favourite in here since some of their abilities transfer conditions on pet (Bond, SoR). Right after they use it, epidemic it back from pet (I’ve been using that tactic to kill “unbeatable faceroll” BM rangers back in days with no problem).

Just don’t expect warrior to burn in omgcondigg combo in seconds. Survive these 8 seconds (not many warriors go for Sure-Footed atm) and then keep going. To be honest, warrior generating a lot of adrenaline and spending it with every burst can have some sustain vs. Necromancer now. Especially if he brings mace or hammer

Not sure if troll or not ;p You use staff only, try to pressure with Life Blast without power spec You still win, however warrior should have try something simple, like guardian, because he fails in every aspect. You probably describe new Mace+Shield/GS build. To counter it, be focused everytime warrior switches to Mace set. Burst skill can stun you for over 3 seconds and there’s also mace daze and shield gapcloser/stun. Generally, that build doesn’t do crap ton of burst damage, however is very sustain in small scale battles due to nice condi removal, improved passive healing, mobility, CC access and various blocks/dazes/evades. Best way – keep him at range

30/10/0/0/30 Valkyrie/Cavalier/Berserker armor mix, centred around Death Shroud and Life Blast damage. Axe+Focus/Staff. Works legit in both PvE and WvWvW, if played smart, can win in most 1v1 – 1v2 situations, unless players are not scaled up, then 1v3 can be no problem. In tpvp, however, stick to 0/30/10/10/20, same build from October
