Do you know the normal setup for zergs nowadays? A frontline full of classes with CC and chasing moves, a backline full of classes that can remove or corrupt boons. NO Druid is escaping, they’ll be locked down like everything else that crosses the group’s path.

So… you’re saying bunker druid is fine as is because a zerg can take one out? You might want to think this one through. o_O

What I’m saying is that WvW should not be balanced around small scale. That’s sPvP’s territory. Though what Invictorum said hits the nail on the head too, just corrupt/strip their boons, and they’re dead in the water. Before you can say not everybody can do that, there’s the Superior Sigil of Nullification (60% chance on crit to strip a boon) and the Superior Sigil of Absorption (steal a boon when interrupting).

You’re complaining about Bunker Druid…in WvW, where they can and will be ganked/jumped by multiple people. WvW is balanced around a ton of people. Bunkers die easily due to how many people can attack them at the same time. Spvp is balanced around small group, and ANet will adjust them if it’s required for that mode (since they NEVER balance things only for spvp, it hits the entire game like a blanket). Otherwise they most likely will not touch the class.

So right now in T2 NA Maguuma is winning in total score, but Jade Quarry is winning in Victory Points.

So who is actually the winner of the match-up if that continues to the end of the week, and how does that effect glicko gain/loss and tier placement?

JQ would be the winner since we have a higher VP than Mag, and VP is the new indicator of who wins the week. As for the glicko, I would say they’ve adjusted glicko for this or are attempting to, so the gap between VP amounts is what is going to effect placement now, though I wish I knew by how much.

The new system has done squat to change things. Servers who are gigantic and have massive coverage are still rolling over the smaller servers. And this server matching crap isn’t working either. Until they completely stop people from being able to transfer from one server to another period, WvW will remain broken.

I think;

  • the new scoring system is far better than the old one.
  • the server linking system should be re-done in order to promote “fair chance at first place” as opposed to “good matches.” (which is what they said it was currently for here).
  • there should be a limit on transfers. People moving around at-will can cause huge matchup issues because the links are for such a lengthy period.

IMO you should only be able to transfer once every 3 months, and reset your entire WvW guildhall stuff everytime you do. Transferring should be a serious decision that isn’t easy to back out of, instead of a “Oh I transferred for a week and don’t like this place, so let me transfer again.”

Not convinced it has done anything but make the scores look closer. Id be interested to see the results of skirmish scoring versus old method – I could be wrong.

Not just closer, it makes all the time zones important instead of just one. Say you have a strong SEA but a weak NA. Before the SEA could carry you to victory for 8 hours and throw you back into the lead. Now, most it can do is close the gap, it cannot bypass it, for that is only 4 out of 12 skirmishes.

It’s a fair way of balancing some of the timezone coverage problems and the hopelessness feeling people usually feel by the end of Sunday night due to score differences. You see a 50k point difference, you’re not likely to keep trying. You see a 12 point difference due to VP, you’re more likely to keep pushing since you can still come back from this. It’ll also encourage servers to stop stacking one timezone and start branching out so they can stay competitive.

This all really cracks me up. Ranger/Druid … About the most rejected class by zergs but at least good for roaming apparently and you want nerfs…

They’ve done this since launch. Ranger spirits, nerfed to the ground due to PvPers. The power of Ranger pets, nerfed to the ground due to PvPers. Hell, the Ranger TRAPS were nerfed due to PvPers (before being brought back up). Druid heals, nerfed due to PvPers. People like them are what cause unnecessary nerfs, and it’s really annoying.

Why wouldn’t you favour buffs to improve their value in zergs while supporting specific nerfs that deal with the specific issue identified as a problem in small scale wvw?

Because Anet rarely buffs Rangers, and their “buffs” are usually lackluster and included with an unnecessary nerf elsewhere.

Skirmishes and ppk not working together

No, they’re working well. If they’re running from fights, it lets you know they’re bad. Just like before, PPT is important, but PPK can make or break the skirmish. A server who is failing on PPT but is getting all the kills can stay competitive with those who have all the PPT but barely any kills.

IMO there can be no more complaints about off hours score blowouts, it doesn’t however solve population disparities but it was never going to.

Agreed. Off hours may keep you in the game, but it won’t win it now. So if you were completely relying on SEA/OCX to win you matches before…sorry, ain’t working anymore, at least not without the remaining timezones putting in a lot of work to keep things going.

Well, after 24h I conclude the new system is rubbish.
Designed to diminish the huge PPT some servers had thanks to nightcapping and big outnumbering situations… AND it does basically the same, now it pushes stacked servers even more, and the population imbalance becomes even worse.

Skirmishes: A system designed by devs, for stacked servers with the promotion of primetime people, where offtime players and servers out of top 5-6 are now considered 2nd class.

Umm…but if you’re stacked in only one coverage, doesn’t the system actually hurt the server that’s stacked? You can’t win just 4/12 skirmishes every day and expect to win the week.

That’s a QoL change they could pull, and I’m surprised they haven’t.

Wrong screen. That’s only the War Score, that isn’t the Victory Points.

Given the skirmishes are about to be implemented do we know what the schedule is? Are they every even hour or odd hour? Are they on the half hour?

Victory points they called them….wtf are victory points. They said victory points are used in calculting the winner of each week……wtf?!!!??!?! Isn’t warscore supposed to do that? wtf is victory points?!?!!

Every 2 hours the current warscore is reset (who has what in terms of camps/towers/keeps IS NOT RESET), and whomever has the highest will get 3 points. 2nd highest gets 2 points, last place gets 1. They add up all the victory points to the end of the week to determine the winner.

My guess is the players that voted for scoring changes will finally learn that changing the scoring won’t effect coverage and general population issues. PvD and mowing down out manned players will still be dominant issues in WvW.

On the plus side, winning will be… oh wait… still utterly pointless since we aren’t rewarded for winning with anything meaningful.

More on the bright side, stacking one timezone won’t guarantee a win, since you can’t win with this if you can’t win the VP in the other timezones.

Boon Stripping exists.

Necros are the only class that can play boonstrip, and even with constant corrupts it’s hard to keep up with the constant boon reapplication.

Mesmers can boon strip too. Necros are far better at corrupting said boons. Nothing wrecks permaboon on a person worse than corrupt boon.

Well, Zaithan is dead and his minions are still around.
Furthermore Tequatle got stronger.

However in this case it is mostly panic and fear in the peoples mind. They are still dragon spawn, even if their master is dead.
People don`t trust them.

There is the idea that Elder Dragon Energy has “a will and shape on its own”, to some degree.

It does seek or accumulates in a host, that will become the next ED of that partiular energy.
As long as we don`t know, where Mordremoths energy ended up in, Sylvari could easily be coverted, by the next one who inherits the ED energy.
Which by all means could be a follower of Mordremoth.

Old Mordy has been defeated by Trahearns sacrifice.

Btw. we don`t know where Zaithans energy went. Though the Priory is studying his tail (Or was it the one of Tequatle)ß

Old Mordy’s power went to Glint’s child, so if it ends up nice and good, the sylvari are fine. But if it’s evil…Sylvari are screwed. Zhaitan’s energy I suspect went to the closest ‘focus’ for its power, Tequatl itself. If its defeat is permanent, then the power from that would have gone elsewhere, to the closest dragon or dragon champion nearby, following the leylines. Which means its possible it went to Bubbles or Primordus, considering how close Orr and the Ring of Fire and ocean are to each other (and since the next zone is confirmed to be in the Ring of Fire, it may have gone to Primordus, if he was there at the time of Zhaitan’s death, which there’s no telling considering how he can move underneath the earth itself).

On the contrary, kill score will be drastically increased in relevance. If a guild group can reliably and efficiently murder zerglings, it can create score swings in the skirmish that would otherwise be irrelevant in the current state of WvW.

Which isnt good at all. All that kills having drastically increased relevance means is that people will PPT and avoid fights whenever possible. Oh did you die? Its your fault we lost, gtfo out of WvW!

The zergs become stronger and the outnumbered become weaker, well played if you think thats a good thing. Think guilds can kill zergs? Hahaha… port to another map and keep the train going!

As it is now, people have nothing to loose trying to fight.

Not necessarily, depending on how the scores for skirmishes go. If the score gain stays the same, it would probably end up badly. If they change how much you get for holding stuff at the point scores, it could change things up. Because it would mean that while you’re so busy dealing with those small groups, your stuff is getting flipped and you could lose that skirmish.

I remember when Cursed Shore was hard

I don’t… And I’ve been playing since the beggining.

Cursed Shore, Ranger before the “pet takes no aggro” and “enemy amount” nerfs. It was pure hell…couldn’t take 3 steps without aggroing something, and your pet could and would aggro everything else.

In EU there are so many servers in tiers where you wouldn’t put them if you consider their strength atm. Let’s hope the new matchup in NA doesn’t also go this way.

It’s a real shame due to the language barrier…but considering how much of jerks certain server languages act towards others (I’m looking at you, French, this is why we can’t have nice things), this may not be able to be changed without starting full blown server link problems.

Well, this is WvW.

Most games are a 20-30 minute match, then it repeats. WvW can be hours of continous fighting.

Fondest memory is still the early days when we had 4+ hour battles in garrison. No other maps, no running around other places, just hours upon hours of 3 entire servers fighting over the same objective because defenders kept bannering the lord, lol.

I remember those fights, especially the legendary 14 week AR-BP-EB matchup. Dear god the fights we had (I was on EB then)…spent 6 hours once just trying to keep Bay, it was T3 and had holes all over, and our forces were pouring in whenever the small window occurred when you could port in. It was just a 3 way push on all sides, with none of them coming out on top. It only changed when our SEA group got on and managed to help turn the tide enough to push both out. Those were the days…

But now all we have are the 2 hour endless zerg pushes out in EBG, with one group wiping another, and then immediately moving to the 3rd group. The outcome only changing once 2 sides decide to focus on only one. This btw happened last night, and was really fun.

I dont want to be on dead servers, I want to play on servers that have large zergs and queues.
I transfer where the activity is and not where Anets weird idea of server balance is. Anet should just merge all servers into 3 or 6 already instead of this useless linking.

Umm…if it’s T1, it’s not a dead server. It has to be T3 or lower to be considered dead nowadays. :/

All this talking is making me wonder if Caithe (and by extension, possibly the Firstborn themselves) is a part of the Pale Tree’s personality itself. She tends to embody distrust in general. That people can’t handle the truths she knows, that the people of Tyria are not worth trusting, that she can only trust her own judgement and nothing more. Similar to how Trahearne practically embodied self-doubt, Faolain embodied cruelty, etc.

I find it funny that you say Druids are overpowered…I constantly see them dead, because if you’re going for any group spec, you have no damage, and you’re focused on healing. All it takes is one encountering any roamer or person heading back to zerg that’s spec’d for damage, and that Druid is dead.

Glint’s Egg was around the time Mordremoth’s voice was reaching Sylvari, and her Wyld Hunt dealt with it too.

But did her Wyld Hunt really have anything to do with the egg?

Caithe’s Hunt was to slay Zhaitan, which had been done. Nowhere is it said that ANY sylvari gets a second Hunt after their first is over.

Also, the vision from the Dream is passed to the Commander, not Caithe. Even the Pale Tree says this was for us to do, not Caithe. That’s why we were the ones given the vision, not her.

Caithe has a long history of making quick judgements and doing what she feels is right, but not applying that judgement to herself. In one of the sylvari starting stories (Shield of the Moon), she bluntly tells someone that his love is lost to nightmare, and he should move on. She also kills a member of the Nightmare Court that we had chosen to spare (I don’t recall which story that’s in, but it’s one of the sylvari stories). Also, I believe it was Caithe that decided Destiny’s Edge would go after Glint next, and would have killed her had Glint not reasoned with them.

Caithe is a monster that will do whatever she wants for her own ends, but expects better from others. Was that egg her Wyld Hunt? No. No, it was not.

Canach puts in a good word for her, saying that The Call and a Wyld Hunt together would mess with any sylvari’s mind, and I trust him. But we all know she was lying about the egg being her Hunt. The only thing that was confusing her was The Call being at odds with her own desires.

I think that’s why Faolain kept trying to pull her into Nightmare. Faolain recognized the monstrous behavior that Caithe was capable of. I’m starting to wonder if Caithe saying that she was just a shadow was her being over the top, or has some truth to it…

A thought on this. If ANET goes the route of the Pact losing and is unable to keep going, they’ll have to rely on independent bodies to supply the skill and labor to get things done…Guilds. You could say then that the fights from Primordus on are…Guild Wars. :p

I trust Caithe even less now than I did before. And since I stopped trusting her at all before I even got to Orr, that means it’s in negative values, and she’s required to trust me more to make up for it. She’s completely undermined and compromised, proven to be utterly unreliable, and entirely too arrogant to be of any use to anyone, even herself. Certainly not her own people or anyone else in Tyria.

If I had my way she wouldn’t just be in a cell or under constant guard, she’d be dead.

Now that you mentioned jail, I realize I trust Canach more than I do Caithe.

Exactly. Canach is far more trustworthy -and far more interesting character- than Caithe. I picked him, along with Braham, for the final HoT battle.

I too agree with what Wreave wrote. The fact she followed and supported Faolain for so long speaks volumes of her; and having the nerve to stole Glint’s egg … Her choices have been anything but wise.

The Faolain thing I blame on blind love, something any of us can get irl, where we ignore all the evils the person we love does because we care about them that much. Glint’s Egg was around the time Mordremoth’s voice was reaching Sylvari, and her Wyld Hunt dealt with it too. She really wasn’t working with a full deck there…unless your PC is a Sylvari, at which point keeping it out of your hands wasn’t entirely stupid, since she didn’t know if you were turning.

Because, according to physical properties I just made up, time moves differently underwater. I call it the “Baseless dilation” principal.
But it was probably an oversight since no one really seems to pay attention to water combat. And it’s probably for the best. GW2 did water combat better than any game I’ve seen so far, but it’s still just an annoyance to most people.

Simply because we were locked into specific weapons and couldn’t use most of our traits/skills underwater. It’s nice that they wanted to differentiate it, but at this point they may have to adjust underwater combat entirely with mastery skills and tracks like they did with Maguuma.

Yes, but pretty sure that means the team doing profession balance will start using more split skills, not that the PVP team gets to make their own skills.

They don’t get to make their own skills but they nerf/change how skills act in pvp to make them more fair. Why can’t they do the same for WvW?

Because WvW numbers are completely erratic.Some days you’ll be by yourself, others in a standard party of 5, maybe a 10-20 group later, and other days you’re in a full zerg/blob. It’s impossible to take into account all those changes in numbers and random variables. All they can really do is ‘bandaid’ things.

Such as if they feel conditions are too powerful in WvW, add a passive boon that cuts condi damage by 33%, that’s only on if you’re in WvW. Or if they feel that boon sharing is too much (it really is), install hardcaps on boon durations across the board for all modes. Such as a maximum of 10 seconds for Quickness, 20/25 for Resistance/Stability/Vigor, 2 minutes for Swiftness, 1 minute for Might/Fury/Regeneration, yadda yadda.

Population balance is on the players. You can’t put this on Anet. Players have created this issue.

ANet is in the position to incentivate or force players to balance out, but so far they failed to achieve that.

I think players enjoy winning (bandwagoning) at least as much as they hate not having fights because the borderlands are empty.

Population balancing requires the players to put forth the first step. But because of servers like TC and BG, we know this isn’t possible. Players created this mess, and the only way ANET can fix it is by kittening off the playerbase.

For example…setting a permanent hardcap on the amount of accounts a server can hold. Even if somebody hasn’t played the account in 3 years, they’d still have a placeholder in that count. It’s easier to link servers and fill the gaps if you have a set count on the number of players in WvW on that server. So people in servers who already reached that count, say BG, would have their remainder of numbers thrown in other servers until they reach that hardcap.

Would this kitten off the playerbase massively? YES. But the playerbase lost any rights it had when BG and TC pulled this crap they pulled in the past. It’s time for the foot to come down.

JQs fault for nightcapping and PPT try Harding to go into T1 when they don’t belong there.

You can thank the ppt warriors and LGN for that, sounds like epic wvwin lol

It’s pretty funny, JQ’s SEA wants to stay in T1 for fights, but JQ’s NA/EU prefer T2 for fights.

Actually, EU T1 servers dont do it, because our revenants actually know how to rotate resistance and people are willing to relog/change builds based on enemy.
If you’re complete noob and havent realised the red circles on ground that can get 10 condis on you suddenly and kill you instantly, you most likely stepped on a wellbomb thus you died from power damage. Conditions are linked with power, purging flames do 1000 per tick even on power build with max might + cele trinks.

Signet of Spite, Epidemic, Corrupt Boon, Well of Corruption, Chilled to the Bone. Imagine all of this coming onto 15+ people in the span of 3 seconds, from a group of 15 necromancers in a map queue of 60 blobbing everything. Congratulations, you have NA T1 strategy.

That’s just the necromancers too. Add in the boonshare mesmers, zerker eles, yadda yadda. There’s a reason why NA blobs destroy anything they get the drop on but fold easily if you even catch them off guard.

Idk why condi is so toxic, it is just a noob killer that works only against rangers. The moment condi necro tries to roam and meets a rifle warrior, it is rip for him. And in Zerg fights you cannot ramp up nowhere near the same damage as power specs because the cleanses/resistance. Of course if you make full blob of condi to hide Burnguard damage, you can get somewhere.
And Roamingwise condi is no good, except if youre mesmer and in that case you have to run away everytime you see more than 1 enemy with proper build.

That is literally all the T1 servers do. I wish I were joking, but there’s a reason why Revenants are forced into Mallyx for WvW, and that’s because without resistance, you’ll die to whichever zerg strikes first with the condis.

Serious question here…

3 weeks ago DB, BG and JQ in T1, DB wins, BG in second JQ in 3rd

2 weeks ago DB gets knocked from FIRST place in T1 into T2, BG, JQ stay T1 and TC moves up

Last week BG wins, JQ in second and TC in 3rd

But now, JQ has a score higher an TC but is in T2 with no pairing and TC(who has a pairing) is in T1 against DB and BG…

What exactly is going on with scoring? Are you guys just throwing darts at a board to figure out T1? Or is TC cozying up with the right people?

It really makes no sense to me what so ever and I would really appreciate an explanation.

It still early to call this week scores… The matches pretty much just reseted. Give it a day or two before jumping unto conclusion. I’m pretty sure TC still cannot compete with BG.

At no point did I say anything about this weeks scores, I’m wondering about the fact that TC consistently places low and their current ranking score according to the GW2 Leaderboards shows TC scored below JQ which earned them a paired server, yet they are in T1 instead of JQ.

TC scored low becasue the server is hibernating. JQ is not. JQ is try Harding TC is taking a break… Thats why TC gets a link and JQ doesn’t. Smarter community working the system better.

I heard TW took the week off WvW to show you guys in TC just how much you need them to stay afloat. Judging from the score, they may be right. JQ, SEA wants to remain in T1, but doesn’t want NA getting more servers for some reason. We got a few more, but not enough.

No pairing for JQ? Since they are a relative ghost town outside of overnight compared to the other tier 1 and even tier 2 servers, they are going to be hurting.

JQ is barely in tier 1 yet TC gets a link. lmao. nuff said

And let’s not start with Mag getting a pairing even though they can handle themselves with a T1 level NA blob.

I always thought they balanced around PvP. There’s a reason why Thieves get nerfed to the ground every patch, and why Rangers got nerfed for the longest, and it sure as hell ain’t PvE.

In the context of Charr culture, this ‘evolution’ of names would tie to the progression of individual Charr through the ranks/professions – younger Charr having profession or physical characteristic based names, older more experienced Charr having earned more individual family/clan based names through their deeds/achievements.

Parallels are great and all, but you can only carry them as far as there’s lore to support- and there’s no evidence that charr change their name for any reason but a change in warband. Rytlock Brimstone, the rebellious little punk soldier on the verge of being executed for insubordination, is still Rytlock Brimstone now that he’s in the highest ranks as a tribune and considered a hero and role model to his race.

There is however, evidence of nicknames sticking depending on how ‘legendary’ things are with them. There’s gotta be a reason why Smodur is The Unflinching. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rytlock eventually gets the nickname of The Dragonslayer.

They’re out of control, and why I stopped bothering for the most part with WvW and GW2 in general, since that’s what I play the game for.

But unfortunately ANet developers do not care about profession balance in WvW. They’ve said it outright that they actually do not care and that the game mode is not intended to be balanced.

The sad reality is complaining about it falls on deaf ears. Most self-respecting players just got up and left, trolls continue to run the get-carried builds since it makes people angry, and those with skill deficiencies can do the same and claim victory while refuting any innate advantages they may have.

The unfortunate truth of it is that if you don’t like it, too bad. Nothing’s probably changing to ever make it any better, since profession developers only balance for PvE.

I think that’s a wrong interpretation of what they actually meant: They can’t really balance large scale, which is true. And maybe at some point they used that quote as an excuse to not care about (wvw) balance at all.
But yes, this game is balanced for PvE and I guess everybody could tell that this is a very very very bad idea (except for PvE players of course “But raids are soo hard – you have no idea!!”).

I’m off beating something else than the forums.

The best way I could think of them balancing stuff in WvW, in terms of damage and whatnot, is just to set up something that activates upon entering WvW maps. For example, if they wanted to nerf condi damage in WvW, they could add a WvW exclusive buff to players while they’re in any WvW map that reduces condi damage by a set percentage.

Bring Back the GW1 Skillsets

But one thing that would be really cool to bring back in some shape or form… skill hunting. I really did appreciate that part of GW1. It was nice to go on a little adventure to find a better version of a skill that you already have. I liked downloading a template, seeing I have 5 blank spots and having to work to fill them. I guess we have that to some extent with the elite specs, and I’m not sure how A-net would be able to work in skill hunting in general… but I just like adventuring :P

They tried that with the first trait rework. It was horrible and didn’t work. Even if they pertained it to skills this time, it still wouldn’t (wait times for events to spawn, wvw wanting alternate ways to get them, etc).

Pretty much this. That trait rework pretty much destroyed the game until they fixed it and made it way better. It didn’t help that the trait locations made no sense in relation to when you’d unlock the ability to use those traits. It especially didn’t help that the best ones were locked in ridiculous spots, forcing you to use really crappy builds until you got them. Remember the first tier ones locked behind 100% completion in Frostgorge Sound? shudders

Your character should have an actual name, not something like talon glovepaw or beef hardstew. Those sort of names are the ones the devs spend 3/4 of a second conjuring when making the game for speed reasons. You should at least spend 60 seconds looking up cool names. I personally like crusader names.

I see nothing wrong with the naming pattern here. It perfectly fits how Charr characters are named by the Dev’s: very descriptive names of mostly physical attributes.

Dev’s tend to give Sylvari names Gaelic inspired names (Wynn, Faolain etc.), Norns get Nordic style names (-son & dottir endings e.g.) and Asura have short names with lots of un-melodic consonants (Phlunt, Snaff).

Those are actually very well thought of naming conventions which make it easier to recognize a race just by its name.

On the other hand I have no idea what a “crusader name” is supposed to be.

I did not notice this naming pattern! Writing this down for future characters.

That always makes me wonder if all dragon champions have the ability to makes prophecies, or if it was just random chance that the two uncorrupted champs we know (Glint and the Pale Tree) both have this power.

It’s quite possible that all dragon champions have this power, but only the ones that break ‘out’ of the system are aware of it. From what Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s minions showed us, they have somewhat of a hive mind to their ED. The ED believe they are undefeatable, as Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s comments showed us in the past, so they wouldn’t bother looking at the possible courses of events.

However, since both the Pale Tree and Glint broke out of the hive mind, they have reason to look at the timeline, understanding their own place in it and what needs to be done to their former masters, to save the current races. Adding into this the time we saw the Eternal Alchemy, where we saw a white center entity (Tyria itself, or at least this place on the Mists), and 6 circular orbs around it, like cogs in a machine, it can be stated that the dragons have this power simply because they are ‘necessary’ to this realm’s balance. They’d need to see when to wake up to keep the magical power in the world at stable levels.

Hmm…now that my mind is on that center light, another theory is pulsing in my head about Tyria itself being a final ED, but that’s a theory for another day.

Do you guys think our characters are not alright? That maybe hanging out in bloodstone fen has messed with our character’s minds?

Oh, I’m sure of it.

Well, I’m not sure of it in a game development sense, but we start collecting Unbound Magic, and before you know it, we’re taking a “just a few minutes I can quit at any time” attitude about it. That way seems to lead to some sort of bloodstone madness, right?

Could it be that we’re finally getting to see the line between the Mists and Tyria where the Mursaat liked to hang out at? Are we going crazy due to bloodstone magic alone, or is it a combination of that, our close proximity to the leyline magic constantly, and our trip to seeing the Eternal Alchemy way back in LS2?
