…prolong their life by unnatural means …

Is it possible to learn this power?

If we ever get to Elona, you might have a chance to ask Palawa Joko. However not sure if you want to be a dried up corpse. Alternatively you could go seek out Livia, if she is still alive. She managed to stay fresh for around 200 years, probably with a little help from the Scepter of Orr.

You mean Countess Anise (if you accept the theory that Anise is Livia)?

I believe they’ve also said that the players being revenants before Rytlock goes into the Mists isn’t a canon lore thing, though.

They have? I don’t remember that statement. Was it the same interview with them stating that Rytlock is the first Revenant?

Revenants

RyuDragnier.9476

Well Rytlock becoming a Revenant basically caused a “wave” across the Mists. Inside the Mists, all of what we can assume is the source of Space/Time is housed there (since we can see battles that already happened, and things that may happen). So him opening the ‘box’ (or whatever it was) that caused him to gain his powers basically hit across the entire Mists, giving more and more the power of Revenants. He was the first in all of existence to gain the power, and it spread to the rest of existence.

While theoretically sound, don’t say it as if it is fact.

Because it isn’t.

Until ANET states how it works, it’s fan theory for how this works. But their statement that “Rytlock is the first Revenant” can easily lead to the thought that if Revenants can appear before he becomes one but yet he’s the first, that time/space shenanigans at work.

At its core, yes. When HoT was first coming out, everybody joked that Rytlock was Tyria’s Dr Who, simply because of this time/space shenanigans.

How about Trahearne's memorial?

in Living World

RyuDragnier.9476

here is my reasoning… we lost tybalt, Eir, Trehearne, our respective faction commanders, and countless others during LA’s destruction etc… While we all have attachments to our favorites, they couldnt possibly do a cutscene for every single person you are personally attached to. They chose Eir cuz braham is still a part of the story and intrigal to the next part of it. the rest got honorable mention at their respective deaths.

This is why I want a monument on Claw Island, one we can actually visit in an instance, that pays memorial to all those who have fallen so far in the Dragon War. A list of names of those fallen during the march and battles of Orr and the battles of Maguuma. Or at least the big names.

I typically don’t like the words fate or destiny in anything. It sounds pretentious.

Dragon’s Watch isn’t terrible, but not my personal pick. Rytlock was mourning the loss of his guild and guild leader. It is no wonder he shot down the idea.

This is the reason why he didn’t like it.

On the whole name thing, I really think the guild should have been called Dragon’s Bane. Sounds better, and we ARE pretty much slaying dragons.

Condi's are stronger then power builds?

in WvW

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Not really. Conditions can potentially do more damage if not cleared, but the upfront damage of many power bursts is far higher. I whacked a Warrior with a 15K shatter this week. I killed an Ele with a single Vault doing 12K damage.

^

Watch out for condition Chronos. Otherwise, most things can’t stack conditions fast enough to be as much of a threat as a power build. Bring cleanses or don’t blame other people for something that you could have prevented. Can’t tell you how tired I am of the “I don’t want to bring cleanses but condition builds are OP” attitude.

It’s actually more complicated. You bring cleanses, necros throw all the condis back on you. You use Resistance, the necros and mesmers boon strip it or corrupt it, throwing the conditions back on you. Necros are what make conditions too strong IMO, they can toss the conditions on you fast, and corrupt anything you try to counter it with. I think if anything, they may have to add a permanent buff to players whenever they enter WvW that cuts down the condition damage you take by a set %.

Hey guys, I think you will be surprised at how affective lich bombs can be against the current meta. The 5 skill on lich form strips 9 boons. Combine that with 4-5 necros and you can turn the tides of the fight.

That’s the sad part. In order to counter this boonshare/resistance problem you must use…more necros, who will condi-bomb you to death the second your boons and resistance are down. You resistance to stop the necros, who then destroy resistance so they can do it anyway. <_<

Also, did anyone notice: nobody plays thieves in touneys -> Anet throws some little buffs at class -> Sind plays thief for fun in tourneys -> nerfs after nerf lel. Meanwhile mesmers are on top of the food chain for 4 seasons straight and people still flame and cry rivers if someone plays thief on their team.

RyuDragnier.9476

Is this in a group fight, you solo running from a group or in a zerg vs zerg where the commander was being moa’d constantly?

Zerg fights. Like 30+v30+. Certain guilds just spam it every chance they get on enemy commanders when a fight starts.

I know on my server we frown upon this. Not because of some ethical code or spirit of fair play, but because of greed. Pin snipe and your bags go running in all different directions making it impossible to collect them all. Now, where is the benefit to that? Sure you might ‘win’ the engagement, but at what cost? Silly pin snipers, think about the loot!

It’s a valid tactic, but IMO it’s one of those things you only do if you’re having to win against a blob or to get the enemies out of your keep. Focusing down the pin seriously helps when it’s 25v60, and breaks that blob up enough to where you can clean them out.

Make them activated through the beastmastery line not by default.

Maybe order missions. I like the idea of daily order missions. Whispers give sneaky staff, in priory you researching ruins and artifacts and vigil is maybe killing dragon minions or something. I never liked pact. Personal story become boring after order story.

This, and bring back the earlier race characters, such as the AWOL father for the Charr if you let him escape, that sylvari who wasn’t from the Pale Tree but was from a different tree, etc.

Charr player's Warband Responsibilities?

in Lore

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

The real question is who keeps sending those summons. Is it Smodur, or could it possibly be the unseen Blood Legion Imperator? I’m pretty sure Rytlock would talk with Smodur, the Imperator seems to have a good head on his shoulders and being understanding. But the way Rytlock brushes off those summons, it would have to be from somebody he really doesn’t like.

Given that the summons is coming from the Black Citadel, it shouldn’t be from the Blood Legion Imperator. And he’s apparently the one in charge of his warband, they wouldn’t have the authority to try to summon him.

I’m 90% sure it has to be from Smodur, or Rytlock’s Black Citadel counterparts in Iron and Ash Legion. Those three are pretty much the only ones there with the authority to even try it.

The problem is, he’s actually on pretty good terms with all three of them. So, why did he react as he did? In another thread, I suggested that he’s actually blind now, and while he can use his new powers to navigate the world around him, he can’t actually read the message. He crumples it up and throws it away so nobody will expect him to try. And if he returns to his station, his blindness will be quickly discovered. He’d be deemed unfit for active duty, and retired. I think that actually scares him, and that’s part of the reason why he quickly suggested forming a new guild for him to belong to.

If he was blind, I’m pretty sure he would have told our PC this at some point by now. He may have his pride, but I think he trusts us enough to actually confide that in us. It could also be that the summons have been asking something incredibly specific of him, something he’s not willing to go through with. A guess would be giving his title of Tribune to somebody else, or a repeat of trying to rid them of the ghosts of ascalon. It could also just be them saying “Come do your paperwork,” and we KNOW how much Rytlock hates that.

Charr player's Warband Responsibilities?

RyuDragnier.9476

Technically, we are on a long term assignment to the three Orders and not the Pact. Also, I would like to think we are given some degree of leeway in that we are the ones that killed two Elder Dragons.

Rytlock is higher ranked, and the highest ranking Blood Legion soldier at the Black Citadel. He was also MIA to the High Legions after that ritual to destroy the ghosts, so it is not surprising that he keeps getting summons.

The real question is who keeps sending those summons. Is it Smodur, or could it possibly be the unseen Blood Legion Imperator? I’m pretty sure Rytlock would talk with Smodur, the Imperator seems to have a good head on his shoulders and being understanding. Ranger discrimination.. lol

in WvW

RyuDragnier.9476

omg… I’ve played this game almost since it came out. WvW for over 2 years… Ranger for most of the time. Fine tuned this pewpewpew to have some nasty damage and backline support. I go into EB and join a squad and am promptly kicked out for being a Ranger. Seems they wanted only people who could tank, heal, help survive.. and so on.. of course Ranger/Druid can’t do that can it… Frankly I’m not sure how Ranger is self serving but that’s what I was told…. ???

I am in BP, attempting to get into one of the Host servers squads. Shifting between annoyed and just sadly humoured… I mean it’s not like we get gold for winning the week. It’s a game, it’s a game, it’s a game… then again maybe it’s reality? :P

I’m not a member of the CD community, tried to get on the site but even trying to register gets me an error so that didn’t work.

Just curious if other people that have been “pugged” up into the “better” servers have encountered this sort of thing.

So totally out of trying to get with groups in WvW unless my guild group is in and running I guess.. I mean seriously.. holy freakin crp…

Medium armor classes in general are not very good for larger group play in WvW. The AOE damage is lacking, which is the biggest issue for me personally. They don’t provide things like group boons like stability, regen, protection, etc. Druid heals do not make them worth having around either.

The issue is that anything a ranger can do, a necro, warrior, ele, guardian or rev can do better generally. Now they can’t ALL do all of the same things better, but they’re all over all better for the group than a ranger.

The ranger hate isn’t irrational, it is heavily single target based and most of its “big damage” skills like longbow 2 are EASILY reflected or negated by skills that either destroy or reflect projectiles. Longbow 5 doesn’t do much damage and is really the rangers only big AOE.

I honestly don’t see why anyone would WANT to play ranger in WvW for larger group play (10+ people) anyway because you get a LOT less tags on enemy players which means you earn a lot less loot bags. The less AOE damage you put out on the field, the less useful you are to the group.

I’d kick rangers from my groups too if I was commanding, I’d rather the useful classes get the boons and heals and such from other useful classes than promote people playing rangers personally.

No offense to you at all, I just think there is a time and a place to play ranger and it isn’t in larger groups in WvW.

It’s sad that all the medium armor classes are like this. Nobody wants a Ranger, Thief, or Engineer in their parties. We’re stuck doing what the light armor and heavy armor classes can do, but can’t do it as well as either of them. Anet needs to seriously buff these classes so they have a viable group spec.

You know what would have helped Rangers a lot? If they had given druids some waterfields that could rival Ele’s that could be cast from a distance. That #5 staff is pure garbage and has no circumference, the healing spring has no range and requires you to be in the middle of the frontline, and the celestial #4 also has no range and require you to be stationary where it’s being cast which = dead Druid. They could have given them some viable boon stripping options, there’s a ton of things that could have done but didn’t. HoT was kind of a reset button that could have been used to correct some of the class balance issues and somehow they still completely missed the mark.

This exactly is what’s the problem with Druid. Anet needs to buff this stuff, and as far as I can tell they haven’t because they’re afraid of PvP imbalance. NOBODY CARES ABOUT PVP ANET!

You should show something in your combat log though. That nothing appears is strange.

I thought that was odd too. Nothing in my logs though. I figured out part of the problem. I was lagging a bit. And only around that thief. I was even in a blob vs blob fight and no lag. The whole ordeal was very fishy to me.

Leaving only the guilds with honor to help reorganize the YAKS .

Yaks was winning T1 thanks to DK and Chris commanding near non-stop coupled with HIbergate being very Hiber. They also had “The Alliance” for a while. Once the Alliance left and Hibergate once again became BlackGate, the beatdown commenced.

A lot of guilds including mine left because we had new and returning players on other servers while YB was locked down. We had no other choice but to move. Besides there is nothing dishonorable about moving servers… now calling some dishonorable that plays without cheating and doesn’t insult others falls into that category.

Just reminded me about a guild group that moved onto JQ a month or two back. I forget the exact tag name, but they had mentioned that YB treats people who weren’t on YB from the beginning badly. Be called dishonorable for moving servers was I believe one of the things they mentioned getting thrown their way.

I do think this Episode of the new LS is giving us a massive hint to how Elder Dragons were created, and hopefully how to stop them. It’s possible Lazarus could become the big bad of the entire game, with him absorbing the magic of the dragons after they’re defeated. Even possibly reaching the point where he plans to turn the humans and asura into his minions as a way of having revenge.

I have another theory on where things may be headed in the far future, but its something I’m not willing to share just yet. We’d need another 1-2 expansions before I could consider it a good enough theory to share, otherwise it’s Wild Mass Guessing.

Companions die a lot

in Living World

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Its something that a LOT of games nowadays that utilize friendly AI / parties do, actually. Scale the damage your companions do to trivial levels so that the players have to handle the game rather than just letting the AI beat it for them.

Its not something I’ve ever been a fan of personally, but I can see the reasoning for it to an extent. Actually making your allies useful is a fine line between making them too good so the player feels uneccessary and having them be just useful enough to help but not carry. Its a difficult balance to achieve I imagine, and so many developers just throw up their hands and say “Whatever, better to have useless allies than ones that are too good and make the player feel unimportant”.

Or just make it so the allies can’t die or have the HP equivalent to Champion monsters. That makes them useful without having them seem like utter trash companions.

Couldn’t Almorra say something less inflammatory, like “We were sorry to lose Marshal Trahearne and don’t want that to happen again?”

Almorra’s a Charr, higher-ups in their society tend to do paperwork for a reason, losing them throws the chain of command in chaos. Which is pretty much a reason why Rytlock hasn’t been in the Citadel in a while, hard going to that after the adrenaline rush of fighting legions of dragon minions.

This seems to be following the same path. What I don’t get is, how is it that Primordus is “active.” From what I gather he was already active, just trapped underground fighting a neverending battle against the dwarves who had gone through the rite of the great dwarf.

It means he either defeated the dwarves, or the leyline energy from Mordy is being fed to the other dragons, so he has enough power to start pushing out and fighting on multiple fronts.

Same. This is the first I’ve heard of it.

More importantly, all my charr characters are already in legions, pff.

This.

Explain Dragon's Watch?

I have this persistent mental image of ED with pocket watch dangling from it’s… paw (?)… screaming “time to die, time to die!”

…now I can only think of Kralkatorrik pulling a Time Warp.

Condi from Stealth is Damage...

in WvW

Like i stated before in other topics; No class should be able to damage while remaining stealthed. Effective or not – it shouldnt be a thing at all.

People who defend this must like to play cheese builds.

Or know how stealth actually works. If YOU step into a field that just adds a condition, it’s not going to reveal them, because YOU stepped into a red field you should have known never to step in. The trap thing, no thief worth their salt even runs traps, they’re useless when you could have moves that either increase your survivability or help you kill faster. Traps do neither.

ah, clueless guy with his 2 cents
another one from NA and also a thief, coincidence? dont think so

have you played trapper thief? have you faced good trapper thief? did you know the traps are invisible and the thief is also invisible the whole fight?
no, dont answer. i know you didnt know those things, now go back to lore section of the forum

Fought one trap thief on my thief, and laughed at him. Got hit with multiple conditions, I Shadowstep’d and used Blinding Powder. I saw Shadow Refuge, I threw down a poison field on his spot, throwing me out of stealth. I put down Caltrops on my spot and waited a few seconds, just to get a few more conditions on me. I used Steal and entered stealth, then switched to my D/P set and it ended up turning into an unseeable fight. I threw down Caltrops once they were off cooldown again and I’m not sure if he ran into them or not.

I exited stealth once, I got traps hitting me and then were subsequently negated by the removing conditions in stealth trait when I re-entered it. My build is mostly for scouting, so it’s specced for survival. His conditions didn’t do that much damage due to that probably. I’ve seen far worse from power thieves.

A good fix for this is that all traps deal a minimum direct damage.
That way – the source of damage (i.e. Thief/Mes/DH,Ranger) will get revealed.

That’s exactly what they did with Shortbow and for similar reasons.

Which effectively killed group support on thief in WvW. SB was the group support weapon. If we can’t stay safe and keep the poison on, then we’re no use to the zerg.

I know how it all works and i know it isnt the best build. But like i said no class/build should be able to do damage and REMAIN stealthed. Do people read this or just blindly defend this kittenty build……

But again, traps suck…the only thieves using them know they can troll and kill bad players.

Explain Dragon's Watch?

I can’t explain it, but it certainly was the least horrible of the choices we got to vote for. They at least could have at least removed the apostrophe.

For me it was the worst choice. Unbroken sounded better, if only marginally. I swear if I ever write a book with a character in GW2, whenever it reaches this point, they WILL crack a joke on that name.

“Dragon’s Watch? What kind of stupid name is that!?”
“…the former Commander of the Pact came up with the name.”
“Good thing we don’t rely on the Commander outside of combat.”

Companions die a lot

in Living World

RyuDragnier.9476

Seems like a bug.

They fought for me in the instance. They actually managed to hold their own relatively well and take out the weaker White Mantle whilst I dealt with Adrienne.

Was the opposite for me, they were taken out easily, and I had to do all the heavy lifting…again. Surprisingly Caithe was the one companion who stayed alive (in her instance), and brought me back up when we were fighting those evil swords.

How about Trahearne's memorial?

in Living World

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

It’s frankly ridiculous.

We spent all of this time at a memorial for a member of a defunct guild that you only interact with for a few dungeon missions (because sorry, I did not play a norn) but none for the Marhsal of the military organization we created and spearheaded for the singular goal of the game, as well as the companion NPC and pseudo-mentor that accompanied all players, regardless of race, for practically half the game.

In addition to his association w/ the Pact and accomplishing the impossible by cleansing Orr, he’s arguably one of the most important figureheads in the contemporary Tyria narrative for several reasons.

He’s literally the first sylvari to have ever existed (on our side of the continent atleast), the Pale Tree’s favorite, Caithe’s brother, and is well-renowned and well-connected among many different organizations and races (even ones as elusive as the Order of Whispers and the largos) thanks to his 25 years of extensive field work in Orr research… and we don’t hear a peep about his sacrifice?

People like to complain that Trahearne is terribly written character. You’d think Anet would try to own up to it by either improving the depiction of one of the game’s most significant NPCs, or at the very least write a logical conclusion to the shoehorned death they threw on him.

Instead, they are desperately pandering to the incredibly emotional players who were somehow rendered insanely miserable and low in self-esteem by the character’s existence by not only giving him a cliche death, but then writing out any respectful acknowledgement of his tragic end. I’m disappointed in Anet for following “bad writing” with even worse, illogical writing and sad pandering.

I’m hoping they put a memorial for him and all Pact soldiers lost in the dragon war on Claw Island, and then make it an instance we can visit.

Did Abaddon actually love humans?

in Lore

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

With the new lore presented with this LW episode, we know that individuals absorbing too much magic (this time from the Bloodstone, but it is heavily implied it goes for any magic, presumably only not the divine one) can go mad like drug addicts, to the point they’d die over their thirst for it. That rises yet another interesting parallel between Abbadon and our own endeavors; Not only we are releasing magic unchecked onto Tyria just like he was, it is apparently driving people mad and causing much more destruction than it could ever cause good.

Just take a look at Bloodstone Fen, bloodstones are no more than nukes, they even have magic fallout to boast. So, while Abbadon could have been caring and wanted what was best for humanity in a way, he was arguably not doing good at all even before being tormented, by running around giving literal nukes to everyone. Alas, I bet the Margonites did not rule the Crystal Sea with their amazing pacifist policies before Abbadon transformed them. Then again, that is indeed akin to Prometheus, as one could argue no good left without evil came from the flame of knowledge either.

This also brings an interesting thought as to why the Elder Dragons devour magical energy after it gets to a point. Maybe to prevent Tyria from being destroyed by the magical power itself? This cycle seems to have gone on for quite a while, so maybe it’s a safeguard against it, and Abaddon sped up the process before the dragons awoke again by putting more magical energy into the system.

Homing Rocks...

Yeah they can throw them at you even while stealthed I’ve watched them throw at me while I was stealthed.

They can throw them at you when you’re stealthed because they had already thrown them at you. Their range is so far that the rocks can take several seconds to reach you. If you stay stealthed, they’ll eventually stop.

Which is ridiculous. What’s their range, 4000?

[Mild Spoilers] What was he doing?

in Lore

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Wouldn’t be logical

Are you insinuating that the GW2 plotline is based upon logic and not the writer’s notions of narrative impact?

Logical causes and outcomes are not the bedrock upon which this story has been laid for quite a while.

I am insinuating that they have been trying.

Ever since the fiasco with Scarlet, at least.

I still imagine one day we’ll get a book that retells the Scarlet saga, except she’ll be given better characterization and whatnot, and thus Rescued From the Scrappy Heap.

[LS3 Spoilers] How to make Tengu work

in Lore

Posted by: RyuDragnier.9476

RyuDragnier.9476

Everyone that talks about the Tengu seem to neglect 1 very big, very glaring flaw in making them a playable race. The Tengu are as racist as the Centaurs. the entire reason the Tengu are so unknown in GW2 is because the vast majority of them refuse to interact with the outside world, there are a hand full of them that like humans but thats like saying Centaurs should be a playable race because Ventari or the Veldrunners. Zhed and Ventari where allies but Centaurs still hate humans.

The second issue, from a lore standpoint, would be the same as in GW1 when you make a Nightfall character and play early Prophesies missions. you get a text on screen that says “your about to witness events that happened before blah blah blah”. it breaks the lore because now you have Tengu fighting against Zhaitan and Mordremoth when they largely chose to stay out of the matter. it makes much more sense to have Largos or Kodan as new playable races and even then i do not believe ArenaNet will add any new options there.

1. If you haven’t noticed, all the races save Norn and Sylvari could be considered racist in a way. Asura think the other races are stupider than them and that Asura are superior, Humans outright despise Charr and Centaurs, and the Charr have been pretty aggressive against Humans, Ogres, etc. All of these, however, have fallen apart with the current generation of each race, if you’ve noticed.

Our Human character is pretty okay with being friendly to Charr and Centaurs, our Asura doesn’t treat anybody as lesser than them, and our Charr are pretty chummy regardless of race. Our Tengu character would be the same, open to the other races and to the world at large. So that argument that the Tengu are racist prevents it falls flat.

2. Some Tengu actually fought against Zhaitan and Mordremoth, so it doesn’t break the lore in any way, our characters would be some of them that did fight. That argument is fault too.
