Err ive been saying this like 4 months ago and no one listened. Even posted my ranger build that everyone ignores and look where we are now.

I think it is a really bad idea.
Appearance of teams running multiples of single class and dominating is actually very good data point about OP-ness of the class and need to tone it down.
Now you would completely remove that data.
The solution is to balance the class, not to destroy data that points out that class is OP.

What he is suggesting is a way of balance as well, instead of having 3 ele’s spam heals on each other now only one would do it. People would have to synergize with a variety of classes and not only a few familiar ones which is good for the game. Most classes would be designed as a stand alone entity within a group of unfamiliar classes, and in itself the ele might not be OP if it was only one per team, however when you add more than one, the strength of each individual player increases and that is where the problem comes in. In order to “balance” elementalists for this compounding issue it may take their single use (ie not bringing 2 or 3) out of the game entirely and no one wants the artificial removal of a class.

Sidenote to Sataar: A few of the rangers have been here since the start, not all of us are fotm people.

great reply exactly right. and i know there is rangers from day one and you have always been a great one. but now its just getting rediculous and i dont want to see you get totally nerfed nor do i wanna see ele either. but teams out there will always find the most op classes and abuse them its getting so redundent and im tired of making new teams to stomp them. there is no reason that a new team comes out does this then 75% of the players are no longer viable. if we limit this to 1 class per team a lot will change. and even if we only try it for a month to see if im right.

That would work if there were over 100 different classes like how there are on League of Legends. That would be pretty sick if that was the case for GW2, but sadly not.

i never played LOL but from what i heard about it is that it is Esports. and if they are doing 1 class allowed then there is a reason for it. im not saying lets copy LOL but there is a reason for it and anyone who is playing GW2 since day 1 will see what that reason is.

Also understand that even one Ele or one Mesmer is already game changing vs. a team that has none. Why? Time Warp and a hyper carry Tanky DPS. Scratch that, both Ele and Mesmer are hyper carry status, the true solution is either nerf them both to Warrior level or buff everything to Ele and Mesmer level or find equilibrium somewhere.

mesmer lvl? if you have been playing this game mesmer is nowere near ele and ranger lvl. please read the part were i say what a ele and ranger are now this is what a mesmer is. portal timewarp both on 2 min and 4 min cd. other then that we have a aoe shatter that hits for 4k every 10 seconds. we are weak at 1v1 vs most every class because we are built for team but if we build for 1v1 then we are usless in a team fight which most this game happens. but even in a team fight now mesmer is not the best choice because timewarp is only good against dumb teams that stay in it. plus mesmer have to be in the enemys to be useful but the problem with that is the same as the warrior once were in no matter how good we are its hard to get out. the problem is having a tanky class that is op at being tanky and 1v1 and team fights and ele and ranger are both of those. so if u get multiple of them its GG

in closing if this is the only paragragh you want to read here we go. if you make it one class locked per paid team you will get better information on stats and how a meta is formed. you will see what classes are left out and what classes are used and how they are used in a game. you will see new builds being made and how they work with the teams. you stop seeing teams focus on counter comping but more so on working as a team. you will see more ppl come back to this game because now they know even though they are not a ele or a ranger they will still have a chance in a group. i am not even asking for this to be permanent but even just for a month try it out ANET because no matter how much fun im having with q pops all day it still pisses me off what im seeing in these games.

so great job anet on were are are now but lets take it one step further and get some entertaining games going on. and lets not wait until 3 months down the road or put this on the back burner lets do this right away and i promise just like weapon swaping and utility swaping ppl will see its better for the overall play of the game after they cry for a few days.

in the SOTG you guys are praising PZ for being great? it confuses me cause every time they make a strong team its based off of the op classes and 3 times we make a team that destroys them but every time we use good ppl on diff classes and they quit for 2 weeks -1 month until something more op comes out. this is not ok and a game shouldnt be this way. for the first time pz actually has 5 really good players so that with abusing op classes makes this game not fun.

yes im new to mmos i only have SWTOR under my belt but i do understand fair and not fair.

my view on ele = they have crazy burst, crazy cc, crazy heals, crazy condi clear, crazy condis, crazy survivability, they can get out of a battle reset health and do it all over again so even if they are getting beat first attack attempt they will come back and do it again. ( it dont matter how skilled u are a great ele will win) and then to top it all off there elites are the most op eletes in the game. if they need heals for the team or in solo fight the water one (gl beating them 1v1 with that out) or if they need that extra bit of burst for a little more tanky one then they have a dps 1) so overal WTF is all i can say to this.

my view on ranger= they can drop a top tier bunker in 30 seconds. (enough said u would think) they have crazy aoe damage crazy single target damage. they remove every condi every 10 sec, they have entangle elete super crazy op damage and its great for 1v1 and team fights. they are super survivable. u can be a bunker and your pet will kill them fast while they add condis so either one u try and kill ur SOL, they have super speed over 50 times a game on pet swaps so they are so crazy in team fights for reses and stomps. (cc them u say when someone goes down? well i do a smart guard wont let that happen they stability, plus gotta go over there to them cause ele mist forms behind the line so ur dead for over extending) they are super survivable also.

there is more to them but i want to get on with this post. when i hear on SOTG that they are not op and no jon said anything about that directly baffled me. a guy named Newmoney made rangers what they are today. he was the best ranger this game has or had ever seen he destroyed EVERY ranger in 1v1 and didnt die in team fights and he was are back point ranger when only we used a ranger. then he had rl drama and hasnt been back. then PTC got vyndetta and started stomping teams also. but they were still called weak? then i found vain and we perfected ele staff ele then they got nerfed. after that skovex made d/d ele were it is today and now thats were we are at. so yes ppl will always find the strongest way for there class and you keep nerfing it because the same pattern keeps happening we find op stuff to many ppl use multiple in it and ppl complain. (remember ppl thought staff phantasm was op until i made the GS shatter build and destroyed every mesmer in the game? if u dont try watching old xee videos and how he changed after fighting me and losing over 20 times in a row. then i give him my build he posts it and everyone changes then there is multiple mesmers on a team then we kept getting nerfed)

to stop this from happening one class needs to happen because even if op builds on classes are found they only get 1 of them. i can beat these rangers and ele just fine and so can everyone else ive seen but its when u get multiple is when it gets crazy and i dont want them to get nerfed so bad ppl stop using them just like mesmers now keep them how they are IMO buff other classes like u said u want to in SOTG.

these are what i want on the leaderbords so i can see how good and useful ppl are. if ppl have more ideas please post them on here and keep it simple so i can update my list. anything you think will be great on the leaderbords or help ppl see improvements they need.

i agree that ppl dont like this game because it is skill based. in fact some ppl i talked to told me they like having better gear they want that advantage.

me i like GW2 system. everyone can make equal builds and comps.

i decided last night to give WOW 1 more chance at impressing me. but nope it failed. i dont know if its the 20 year old graphics or the 2 min long matches or the fact that they say they won or lost before it starts and are 100% right everytime just by seeing the comp. or maybe its the fact that they all talk about how everyone runs AI programs to be able to compete.

idk maybe its all of the above but whatever it is and im srry WOW fans but i just cant watch it. Soccer is very famous also and has the most viewers in the world but other then ESPN highlights i cant sit down and watch a soccer game either.

Gw2 will get more viewers and it will go esports simply because it is fun to watch. maybe we just need more streamers.

@ # of maps?: Right now we will do one map per week, so that teams can adjust to the new maps and get their builds ready. This will also allow us to see the meta shift week by week, based on the map. This is very useful information for us.

The WvW is not even as good as DAoC, DAoC had points you could earn only by doing RvR to buy pvp skills for classes improving their power.

I don’t think he means needing a prize, he says “feels alot more rewarding”, some gameplay can feel more rewarding than others, e.g – gameplay with instagibbing, that is simplistic, spammy, etc can feel cheap, one dimensional and unrewarding.

its not about prizes but it currently feels entirely unrewarding,

to put it in perspective, its like the scene in Labyrinth where she’s running down the corridor and the end of the corridor just keeps getting further and further as she runs.

if they’d give us the ability to buy ALL armor (for increasingly higher glory costs based on appearance) we’d have goals, something to aim for, not the endless corridor or rank farming.

WoW pvp actually is terrible. I was watching I think it was a Blizz con, and between SC matches I checked out some WoW arena pvp. It was truly stupid. The match lasted something like 10-15 minutes, team death match, and literally not a single person died during that time. At the end, they had to decide the winner by which team did the most damage. Boring to watch, kitten gameplay.

thats good 10-15 min. from what i watched today it was 2-3 min everyone was ranked like 2700 or something and they were such defeatists. the second they seen the opponets they would say we lost they are kfc or we win they have blah blah blah. i would never play a game were i knew i was going in to lose with no chance.

gw2 would be even worse if they added death matches. 3 ele gg we lose. this whole thread is funny you would pick the game that you play and desperately want to be popular but never will be over a game you have never played and cant follow.

An easy fix: Limit number of classes per a team IE – you couldnt run Ele/Ele/Ele but could run Ele/Guard/Thief or something. no Thief/Thief/Thief abusing stealth either.

WoW does several aspects of PvP better in my opinion -

More Maps: Simple really, more maps and you wont get bored as fast.

More Game Modes: Capture The Flag, Team King Of The Hill, ect would be cool to add. Something other then just the the same old

Balance AI: This is for The Forrest map mostly if you add AI mobs make them a challenge. Take a look at Altac Valley kinda similar though in wow its 40Vs40 but you would NEVER see someone soloing even the first boss let alone the end boss in the map. Make it so that AI mobs NEED teamwork and are a challenge and not something that people can solo. Also make the doors ALOT stronger

I very much enjoyed WoW PvP when i played it. I would say both have positives and negatives and saying that one or the other is “so bad” is kinda sad especially when most people that say its sucks havent even played it, watching a few videos doesnt count.

i used to want a limit on the classes u could bring into a game and i made a post about it a long time ago to make sure no teams abused op classes but latley after talking to ppl im on the fence. if they restrict 1 class per team or dont i dont care either way.

1. the name is just so similar.

2.both teams have 5 ppl

3. dodge rolling out of danger

4. you have your skilled range ppl and your close range ppl

5. positioning is so important.

6. down state and you can revive teammates if they dont get executed.

7. the look and fill to it are the same.

8. i played execution mostly but king of the hill is crazy similar to guild wars 2

No, but to the main topic, I think both games are rather crappy where it stands now. In defense of WoW, I can’t say I ever got bored of the PvP in that game. The different battlegrounds, then came the arenas.. was a wonderful time.

In defense of GW2, if I must give it, the dodging mechanic on the right path, and the lack of a need to grind for gear is a good thing to have. That is, unless you want to look sexy. ^_~

Before the rage, yes, this is my opinion. I absolutely despise the PvP in GW2, and that’s why I stick to Smite for my PvP sensations. I may pop in once in a while just to try it out, only to realize that the PvP in this game just makes me want to kill myself. : (

the pvp feels alot more rewarding,
theres no one shotting,
theres no class like the mesmer spamming an army of clones,
the warriors can actually take a hit without crumbling like paper,

warriors in this game can take a hit also. noone said you have to go pure glass if you dont know how. (try using solder amulet and a hammer, lewdog used to destroy ppl on his warrior before he had to work)

dangit i have no responce for the holly trinity. GW2 doesnt have any classes that can heal and condi clear (ele,engi) nor does it have any bunkers (everything with a solder amulet) and dps (nope aint seen none those around)

ok so after today and having ppl tell me they practiced underwater i think we came to the conclusion that ROTC should be put in competitivley for at least a day to see how it goes.

Rangers aren’t the best 1v1 class. Their is no such thing as best 1v1 class. Every class/spec has a counter and ranger does have many counters aswell. Players say rangers are the strongest 1v1 class right now because players favor the ele/mesmer/gurd meta. And well, those classes are laughable when they 1v1 a ranger with their standard meta specs.

P.S. Ranger too stronk underwater

that is the reason for my build so i can kill vyn and java. the regular shatter mes build is laughable.

but 2 rangers on a team makes it very hard to try and beat.

so im glad we all agree we should try this for 2 days instead of being mapcist.

So its day 4 now and i say Temple of the silent storm passes with my 100% approval for entering the 5v5 competitive playlist. from the many ppl i talked to they fill the same also so good job.

i like that temple was put in for so long only being able to play it now that we had to constantly play it this really helped me learn the map (i hadn’t been anywhere on that map except the mid to duel before until Monday) and come up with strats.

Now i think to be fair we should give Raid Of The Capricorn a chance also. it doesnt have to be for a week maybe just 2 days but you should let us see that map in a 5v5 competitive lvl.

Ppl say they dont like it but that is just because they have only played it 8v8 and that map in 8v8 is a zerg fest because under water is not were ppl want to go. If we look at this game from a Esport stand point (ppl watching us play) then you will admit ROTC is the most entertaining map to watch.

you have the best looking visual map. you have on land and underwater battles, you have sharks and cannons map specific interaction, you have great kiting areas, you have awesome open area fighting areas. this map to me has more to entertain the viewer then any other map.

this could just be my opinion and thats fine but i think we should give ROTC at least 2 days in competitive play to see for sure.

remember this is a post to say thank you to the devs for doing a great job. there has been so many ppl asking for this im sure a thank you wouldnt be to hard.

so before you say or ask for the next thing you want a ty should be first for getting the last thing u/we asked for.

can u explain what solo /duo rated is and what team rated will be if they do that?

So now this is my opinion and i want it heard before what happened to SWTOR happens here.

i really like how i can get on in the morning and play with random pugs and have fun.

i was able to play with random ppl all day every day in SWTOR before ranked and ratings came out.

after SWTOR ratings came out i had a 300- 30 win loss rate and my loses were because my main team wasnt on so we puged and we lost and that brought my rating down a lot with every loss.

i really want ratings in this game i really do but what im saying here is how can we get ratings in here and still be able to pick up random ppl when our main ppl are not on?

lets us a example.

2 high rated ppl plus 3 low rated ppl play a team with 5 high rated and the 5 high rated team wins i dont want to drop rating alot because i am high rated i want to drop rating as if im low rated playing high rated.

so here is the moral of this post. right now its awesome that good ppl can play with randoms overal helping them get better and win more overal making new ppl fill more welcome and less discouraged. i hope when ratings come out that we can somehow keep this up. i dont want it to be like SWTOR noone would q up unless they had there main 8 overall making it noone ever q up.

please fill free if ppl have any idea on how to make this work

im happy they put 1v1 in so paids pop so quickly. and im happy how fast they fixed there mess up. the update started so bad and did a 180 withen 30 min it was awesome. everyone i know is happy.

you guys did some weird stuff to start the patch but u changed that real fast ty thats what we need big mistakes fixed ASAP.

now after this week is up is it possible to put the 1 team v 1 team paid matchmaking in for good and put ALL 5 MAPS in the rotation. let us have all 5 maps for variety i dont care if some ppl dont like so and so map all 5 is great we should get good at what u guys worked on.

and for the paid 8 full team tournaments can you make those cost 1 ticket and u get 1 qp for winning. we can use that as an advanced playlist. (remember that thing i wanted a long time ago) but please dont take us back to waiting all day for paids.
or just scrach it all together whatever u want to do.

Yep this patch is no longer a big disaster. Sure the pvp guys are still screwed compared to the pve guys. But thats isnt the pvp devs fault. Its anet management fault for not giving enough resources to the pvp devs.
