So basically if they change it that all the races/weapons have a basic model in WvW it already should create less server stress?
If so, do that ANet.. They can’t see my name, they don’t see my colors, may aswell make it as anonymous as possible.
I did all of the Fractals once. I must admit it was quite fun because I did it with a group of people that only play WvW and PvP. So we suck at jumping puzzle stuff and more PvE related things. However people are talking about lvl14… That means you would have to run a metric kittenton of those Fractals and although I enjoyed myself during that first run, I highly doubt I will enjoy myself the other 13 times…
I’m no programmer and thus I don’t understand most of what is said in here with all the techtalk.
Correct me if I’m wrong on the following:
Culling is simple server resource management. If a 50 man zerg runs into another 50 man zerg a server has to push information of 50 people to 50 PC’s on 1 server and information of 50 people to 50 PC’s on the other server. Combine that with spell effects and whatnot and you have one hell of a stressed out server environment I suppose.
A simple yes/no or “No you kitten its” followed by a proper explanation in everyday English will suffice.
The only people defending the broken thief class ARE thieves themselves. Sorry but your class is broken, played right you have 50% stealth up time, always getting first hits and worse comes to worse peace I’m out. I agree yes they should excel at one vs one fights, but at this point in time, the class is broken.
Thieves are not broken, you just don’t know how to deal with them. I get my kitten whooped plenty of times by people who know what they are doing.
Go watch high level PvP play and you will see why you are wrong, thieves aren’t a faceroll class at all.
If Ascended gear is not made available through WvW I will stop playing this game.
I simply feel that ANet is just rolling with whatever is being screamed on forums but then put a small twist of their own to it.
More often than not the issues that people have with Thieves are because of the inability to handle them due to lack of skill. If they are going to make changes to PvP they should do so based on high level tPvP play not on forum blabbing.
GW2 is a free to play game and ANet needs to make money. Their focus switched from aiming for eSports level PvP to cashcow PvE/WvWvW.
I’m a thief, played the backstab build, played the ranged cannon build, played the cond build, played the S/D build. Did it all! I don’t mind the CnD nerf at all. I guess some people who don’t want to move after they did #5, F1, #1, F (or other hotkeys) are mad but I understand why ANet would nerf a 15-20k damage chain in under 1s.
And to be honest I still think they should fix the fact that you can precast CnD before popping steal.
That being said I also would like to say there are plenty of other classes that are messed up. If Thieves shouldn’t be able to do 15k damage in a short amount of time to glass builds (you know the kind of builds that go high risk/high reward by sacrificing all kinds of survivability) then a Warrior shouldn’t be able to do a 10k volley that follows me into stealth, or a hasted 100b for 16-19k in 1,5s.
Now I know, I know, I should just get stunbreakers right? So maybe I should just use the Evade heal skill, roll for initiative AND shadowstep on my utility because you never know when you will get slammed by the next 100b warrior using his Bulls Charge after you succesfully dodged two of them and had to use a stunbreaker on the third..
“Guesting” as ANet calls it is already coming. It is, as far as I can tell, their way to negate the cries over night/morning capping.
I don’t know exactly how this guesting thing will work but it would mean you could play WvWvW on a different server outside of your matchup. Whether or not that is limited to tiers below your own tier or you could visit higher tiers, I don’t know. But something like what you are saying is in the making.
Anyone saying thieves run away in stealth by using SB #5 or Shadowstep doesn’t know a kitten thing about thieves… If you are in stealth and use SB #5 or Shadowstep you unstealth at the landingpoint and in the case of SB #5 they can even target you the moment you fire the skill.
Again: Thieves are fine. In situations up to 5v5 I have no problems with culling atleast not 2-3 seconds. I will see the ring appear and within a second the thief is visible on my screen.
For the poster above me (HtFde) do you have any proof to these accusations of hacks?
If you spec right you can easily be in and out of stealth every 3s for 4s WHILE damaging your opponent. If you only do CnD you can be in stealth for 4s everytime stealth runs out (depending on how well you time your next CnD this could be every 0,1-1s). If you run D/P you can be perma stealth by using #5 followed by #2.
Last option is limited because if you are near a player while using either #5 or #2 you will hit that person because of targetting and get the 3s debuff.
@Reonhato:
That will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever happen. Simply because it’s impossible.
@OP:
My only issue with warriors is that you can’t recognize the different build easily. You see a thief running with signet of the assassin you know that once he hits that 900 range he’s doing CnD and hitting F1 followed by a backstab.
However unless a warrior is running around with a rifle/bow it’s pretty kitten tough to know what the hell he’s up to.
What I love about these kinds of posts is people complaining about rather running into a warrior than a thief.
– Volley is insane it will follow you into stealth and can hit for 10k.
– Kill shot is incredibly good in a zerg (15-20k hitting 3 targets whuuuuut). Sure it can be dodged but do you keep an eye on every single one of the people throwing kitten at you?
– Heavy armor, 20k HP as glass cannon a 5s invulnerability AND decent mobility (GS #3 IF target far away is possible #5, switch to Sword/Horn #2 followed by #4). A proper 100b warrior (who missed his 100b or whatever) will be able to outrun a LOT of classes.
– Viable weaponset options.. I mean really they can pretty much use anything and own. GS/Hammer/Mace-Shield/Sword-Sword/Sword-Axe/Axe-Axe/Rifle/Bow they’re all useful in some respect. What do thieves have? That’s right 3 viable options…
What I’m trying to say is Thieves are basically one of 2 things.. Cond build or Burst build. Both can be distinguished rather easy by looking at buffs or weapon set.
I still roll with Caltrops in sPvP and tPvP. I deny caps and cap, caltrops are an amazing way of forcing people to move out of the circle or slowly but surely die.
Mug is by far the most stupid skill there is in this game.. It’s an instant gap closer with the possibility of doing 5k. It also allows you to precast CnD which means in WvW another 5k followed up by a backstab of lets say 5-10k.
If you run power/prec/crit dam and you don’t have Mug you are cheating yourself out of free damage. There is no other skill that will be as useful as Mug is with those stats.
10-15k warrior volleys follow your kitten too..
Thief is kind of annoying to play at low levels. However the moment you get to the gear with 3 stats on it, it’s faceroll pistolwhip time.
Power/Precision/CritDamage. They multiply together, they don’t conflict with other players, and MOAR DAMAGE is always relevant.
I don’t take the Power trait line, though, because I think the actual abilities in it aren’t really worthwhile.
Because a 5k Mug isn’t worthwhile?
WvW:
Power/Prec/Crit dam
Because it’s WvW it simply doesn’t matter.

Wait what? Bad in PvE?
My main is a thief, always ran with crit builds. The moment you hit that level where you get to have 3 stats on items it was power/prec/crit dam and S/P for PvE. Pistol whipping my way through every zone in a heartbeat. Even after the Pistol Whip nerf you can do it.
AI is beyond stupid in this game. Everytime you pull a room/group I can hear myself scream “LINE EM UP”.
I love sPvP and tPvP on my thief because I make a difference. I’m a roaming Thief who helps out where needed and I can do so in the blink of an eye.
WvWvW I pretty much run the same way as PvE except I stopped using S/P there but currently run D/D and SB (still not a burst/backstab build).
Thieves are fine in all 3 elements of this game. But are by far the most fun to play in s/t PvP.
IF Ascended gear will not be made available through any other means but dungeons. I will drop this game so fast the only thing you will see before it dropping the ground is a dustcloud.
There are some exceptions:
– Ascended gear is fully craftable via materials found OUTSIDE of dungeons
– Considering the last one this means you should be able to buy them on TP
– Via some sort of Karma/Badge payment
If they are going to try and make me run the Fractal thingy, I’m out.
Thieves are fine. Stop nagging. By now they die so fast to me that I’m starting to feel bad.
ANet has stated from the beginning that WvWvW would be considered a PvE environment where PvP CAN happen.
The competitive PvP was always meant to be sPvP and more important tPvP.
It’s the reason why ANet doesn’t balance WvWvW. It’s also the reason why ANet doesn’t care much about fixing WvWvW issues (culling/hacks/exploits/flaws). This game was meant to be a simple MMO with amazing competitive (maybe even eSports level) (s/t)PvP.
WvWvW will always be messed up.
Good luck balancing this.
I just quit playing WvW for now. sPvP/tPvP and my daily farm run will be enough to keep me going. Apart from that there is Black Ops 2, AC 3 and SC2 Heart of the Swarm.
RUIN isn’t your ordinary guild is basically a company that needs to satisfy its shareholders. You can’t keep shareholders satisfied if you are losing. Transferring is free so they opted for the easy way out.
I honestly don’t care anymore, I wish everyone the best of luck in WvW I am going to duck out for a week or 2.
I hardly ever run in the zerg. I’m a scout so can’t really applaud it :p.
However we hardly every have the numbers to make a succesful turtle on our own and we lack the classes to make it really really really work.
Every fight vs IRON is fun though.
If ANet “fixes” the thief issue they are just lowering the skill bar for this game.
There is nothing hard about finding a thief and dealing with him/her. Posted in countless other threads about this issue. If you don’t know how it works don’t complain about it try to understand it and deal with it.
Go out of this world like you came into it.
SCREAMING AND BATHED IN BLOOD!
It would be silly to grant insane bonuses to losing servers that would completely destroy any competitive element in WvW. It would just mean that if you are playing against a server that recruited and works 24 hours per day with high organization could be stopped dead in their tracks by a server that lacks any WvW presence or tactics but has a small group with stupid bonuses.
Getting steamrolled sucks, but granting bonuses to losing parties makes it worse.
As said before the culling issue is mainly on the server side. I have done simple tests to see if what everyone said is true.
If I am on scouting duty on a tower/keep and I’m basically alone I will have no problem seeing the 50/60/70 turtle zerg pop in with a portal (surely I will miss a couple but I can see the majority of them popping the moment the portal opens up).
If however I am running with a zerg of 30 people and we run into another zerg of 30/40 people I will see some but not all.
I have noticed a difference between running in the main ball of the zerg and running slightly ahead of the zerg. Which has been making me feel that it might have something to do with proximity aswell (completely hypothetical). I also notice more players pop up whenever I shadowstep into a mainly invisible zerg and dagger storm.
Anyone else tested this?
Apart from that, if ANet doesn’t fix this or atleast give a proper statement about it people will stop playing WvW and this game will die. sPvP/tPvP isn’t for everyone and the game simply lacks proper PvE content to survive.
So anyway.. I read up to that RUIN leader his post and will leave this thread with the following:
Stop the insane amount of posts saying RUIN is a joke and so on. There’s no need to do so, I hardly think ANYONE in the EU ladder doesn’t know RUIN is horrible. No need to fill 5+ pages with it.
If anything we all should blame ANet for making transfers as easy as they are now. RUIN doesn’t care about servers or other players they care about keeping their own community happy because being a gaming community probably means there is some kind of financial aspect to it.
These kinds of issues will not stop before ANet puts a stop to it, can’t tell you how or when but I hope they do. If the competitive aspect of WvW will die fast.
Honestly it’s hilarious to see turtles. Especially if its like 50+ people in it, LOOT ALL THE LOOTBAGS!
[GoD] from Desolation tried to get a keep by stacking up against the door in a corner. They got wiped 4 or 5 times by 5 arrow carts and a catapult..
My complete toon is using the dye called “humiliation”. Would love for that to show up to enemies :p
WvW is NOT PvP. So don’t call this issue a PvP mechanic. It’s closer to a PvE mechanic in a server vs server setting where PvP and PvE meet. ANet has stated that WvW was going to be aix of servers duking it out in a PvE setting so PvE settings apply.
You want pure PvP go play sPvP or tPvP.
IF all players/numbers/skills are equal it should be a stalemate.
I haven’t run into a single person doing the ALT-F4 thing so far in this matchup. And I’m a roaming thief always alone, always outnumbered, always looking for a fight. I have already killed plenty of Vizu/Deso players (they also killed me don’t worry) but not a single one rage quit with ALT-F4.
I thought I saw a RUIN member do it but it was just a thief that blew all his stealth just before getting downed state and managed to heal himself and run the other way. While I was busy trying to kill some annoying mesmer.
I’m still having fun in WvW don’t care much for the points anymore considering it is kind of obvious that Blacktide took a commanding lead. I just want to run around and meet skilled players in WvW 1v1 1v2 or 1v3 combat and see if I can beat them. If I lose to a certain player and can’t figure it out I will even send them a /tell and talk to them asking their build and so on. Nice people on both Deso and Vizu.
A short shout out to the lowbie IRON mesmer on EB last night, I was the thief that capped your most eastern supply camp and defended it for a while vs you, a lowbie RUIN asura ranger and a lvl 80 (I think Human) thief. You kept coming back to defend that point at all costs even if it meant dying or simply trying to draw me out.
So backstab is getting nerfed in a couple of days and already people are crying about condition damage thieves? Priceless.
Please oh please ruin this game with constant cries for nerfs because you don’t know how to deal with something. Because asking for a change is easier than adapting..
Wow, adapt to instakill. Spoken like a true believer. I have a post and video that shows me getting hit for 28K in three seconds. That class needs a huge nerf. Maybe then the good players will look good and the bad will look bad. At the current state of things, the bad players look great and the good players look like gods. Something needs done.
Dude what are you crying about? Backstab is getting nerfed already along with other Thief skills according to rumors. People should look at how a thief works, roll one, go to heart of the mist and mess around. It’s how I learned to deal with D/D Ele’s, Condition (bleed) necro’s and whatever seems to kill me easily. I ask the person what build he/she is using, look it up and test it.
I have done a competition with another thief where we would find hiding spots in SM and see if we could stay hidden WITHOUT stealth.
Which isn’t too hard. I got bored after 15 minutes of sitting in a corner while my friend managed to sit there long enough for SM to be retaken by us, lost and then taken by the third server. By that time I logged out but he claims it was over 1,5 hours of not being detected just sitting there.
I am btw not opposed to mesmer portals at all, keep them the way they are. Just pointing out that sweeps of big areas like SM often fail and will result in your keep/tower being taken. Elonah was the master of Mesmer portals, they would break down the door roll in with their zerg let 4/5 sometimes 6 mesmers disperse into the keep. As a defending server after you found the 3rd and sometimes 4th mesmer you’d be like “That surely must be all of them”. Hell to the no. Them Germans would be busting in with their entire zerg with fresh supply and full fury. I loved playing vs Elonah!
The beast pit is hardly an issue with camping.. It’s that stupid towerlike climb that comes waaaaaaaay before that. Where you have to climb on the inside of some sort of well. If you have no enemies beyond that point and there are 4 people up there with AoE capability you are screwed. Today for instance there was a group of player camping that spot and it had gotten to the point where they built 3 arrow carts that were constantly firing down into that pit.
Getting damaged means the invis wears off after that its just them picking you off one by one. You will get hit by the first AoE’s (be that arrow carts or something else) about half way up the climb and you simply will not make it up there with 4/5 people being able to stand there and blast your kitten back to last christmas.
I’m just going to stop discussing this and leave you with this. AOE caps at 5 (some skills are exempt of this rule) but its not impossible to beat a group of 20 with just a group of 5. If you have the advantage on skill and KNOW they will be ressing you could always focus on that area and try to get 2 to down state while they got 1 up. Rinse repeat.
The REAL issue with combat ressing is with the current turtle fad that’s going on. Where sick amount of people stack on top of each other and go “lol 90% of AoE has a cap”. Those who DO get hit and get to down state are brought back up in a matter of seconds.
This is why down state should be cut out of the game. Ressing a person back to life should not be taken out cause it’s a vital component.
Like most skill based games do? Yes, keep going.
And my guild wins 5v20 on the regular. As long as they’re too arrogant to combat rez. And trust me, us 5 have no opportunity to combat rez, lmao. It’s an obvious zerg mechanic.
Portal Wars
15 characters zzzNo portal, just skill. Try again. Would you like videos?
Everything posted by you in this thread is some kind of smack talk or skill boast. However you play on a T8 server where as a Mesmer wearing light armor you can stand in a group of atleast 10-12 people down a guy AND stomp him. From the start of the clip (video 3) it takes you 30 seconds of running around IN THE ENEMY GROUP to get the lowbie ranger dead. For 30 seconds the enemy group didn’t manage to kill a single mesmer running around in their ranks killing a fellow server mate.
It’s obvious to see you have more skill than the opponents in the videos but that’s like saying you know more than a toddler, it’s hardly a compliment.
If you want to see the issues with combat rezzing you should check out vids where 2 zerg turtles of 50/60/70 people each are firing AoE’s at eachother. There will be people getting pushed to down state constantly and ressed back in seconds. Down state is a nice PvE feature but shouldn’t be in place in PvP or WvW simple as that. It doesn’t mix well with the AoE cap of damage skills.
This isn’t news. Yes there’s a culling issue, yes ANet is aware and has already said they are making good progress on it.
However you not being able to hit your tab key is a fault of your own. I have played vs plenty of D/D Ele’s now and more often than not get my kitten handed to me as a thief (not a glass cannon btw) I go into stealth and while I am the Ele will just spam tab untill he finds me.
This isn’t rocketscience.Just wondering, can you link to where this is mentioned?
It was in one of the first posts on this issue where ANet actually responded. There is no way to find that freaking thread because millions of these threads with people complaining pop up daily.
They said they knew that the culling issue was there and that they were making good progress on solving it. However this was about a week or 2 ago..
I understand your issue with downed state and combat rezzing but I don’t understand why you put those video’s up there? You talk about skill but anyone who has a pair of eyes will see that your opponents are 6 feet below Terribad on the WvW skill ladder..
After checking, lol I’m going to transfer to a T8 server with a 3 orb buff and start my fraps.
For those not interested in bad rock music I will recap his amazing youtube footage of “skill” (mind you it’s on a T8 server…)
Video 1:
You’re kidding right? You were allowed to stomp a guy while 6-7 of his/her serverbuddies just stood there autoattacking a door.
Video 2:
7/8 Devona’s Rest players that clearly have no clue what they are doing. There is absolutely nothing in that video to be proud of…
Video 3:
He is able to get into a group of 12 Kaineng players who obviously have no clue what they are doing outside of autoattacking something. He can down a person, stomp him (btw this all happens in this same group of 12 people) and blink out without so much as 10k hp disappearing.
Dude really, again I feel your pain on down state but don’t act high and mighty. I’m a mediocre player but I play on a T1 server and this just doesn’t happen there. You would have gotten your face peeled off.
Krosan: Do you read? I’m seriously asking this question because it feels like you don’t. Ofcourse culling needs to be fixed it is a major issue that right now benefits thieves that are playing vs unaware or uninformed players.
It doesn’t require 5-10 guys, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to do it with 5-10 people but like I said. I’ve been pulling it off with 2 all day yesterday.
D/P #5 leaves a smoke circle AND it fires a shot, the thief then has to #2 from that smoke circle to become stealth. See the ring, jump towards it and try to get hit by #2 he will get the 3 sec debuff and more importantly you rattled his cage and often they don’t know how to handle such situations.
CnD thieves are extremely easy to find. If the zerg stays (for supply or whatever) stack up, AoE and keep your eyes open. If the zerg moves on leave 2 people behind (as you would for mesmers in towers/keeps) and wait for one of them to get hit. I’m a thief and currently playing vs 2 servers that have denied any of my efforts of holding a camp by stealthing within 30 seconds.
Want to know why? They know what to do and what to expect. AGAIN, Heart of the Mist roll a thief, mess around and realize that OMG IT HAS A WEAKNESS AND ISN’T OMG OP.
This has nothing to do with being elite, hell I consider myself rather mediocre but everyone that complains BEFORE doing any kind of investigating or trying to find out how thieves work should be called an idiot and their opinion should be ignored. And that’s what I’m going to do to you dear Krosan, I’ve explained everything you need to know about thieves, twice and you and your knowledge of this game aren’t worth anyone’s time. Come back when you have put in actual effort and realize that it really isn’t that hard to take care of. I will await your reply where you prove me right and I will bask in the glory.
I just hope ANet doesn’t fall for the cries of mediocre players who lack experience or simply don’t want to put effort into knowing what makes a class work.
Heart of the Mists, mess around with a thief and you will realize it’s all so easy to take care of. I mourn for the gaming industry where people complain that games are becoming to easy and all the while cry the moment they cannot faceroll their way through a game.
Doesn’t need to be a group. Just easier that way. I have done with just 2 people multiple times yesterday. It just requires a set of eyes, a tab button and reaction time…
Simple freaking mechanics.
I’ve said it before and will say it again:
1) A thief has 1 way to maintain PERMA stealth, D/P. Using #5 skill to create combo field and heartseeker out to go into stealth.
Solution to 1): Spread out and wait for one of your people to get hit by the heartseeker or #5 pistol shot. Looking for the smoke ring works too.
2) A thief will use CnD to create somewhat of a Stealth loop. CnD => Stealth => Stealth runs out => CnD rinse repeat.
Solution to 2): Stack up and AoE OR spam tab OR use AoE pull skills OR limit the amount of people @ camp and thus limit the amount of targets to CnD on.
This is a game, not rocket science. Stealth is fine, thieves are fine. Culling should be fixed.
EDIT: I just read moirweyn’s signature after hitting send. lol. Damage should break stealth/DoTs should prevent stealth. You dear sir are absolutely clueless. You might aswell delete stealth and thieves while you’re at it. There are enough abilities that actually still hit thieves while stealthed (volley comes to mind). Players who don’t feel like trying to find an answer to stealth should stop playing this game or stop complaining. If I run into a proper player he could care less about me going into stealth because he/she will now what to do and more importantly know what to expect.
Stop being mad at a mechanic you most likely are too bad of a player for to understand or combat.
(edited by Same.4687)
So backstab is getting nerfed in a couple of days and already people are crying about condition damage thieves? Priceless.
Please oh please ruin this game with constant cries for nerfs because you don’t know how to deal with something. Because asking for a change is easier than adapting..
I average about 1 badge per 6 kills. Seems right.
Can we, for the love of anything holy, stop calling thieves using stealth, “exploits”? I have stated how it works and what people can do to prevent it. Please don’t lean on ANet to provide a crutch for you to be lazy, incomprehensive and lack any kind of skill except slamming that one button that makes your AoE go off.
The sad thing is, that same button that makes your AoE go off is most likely the best solution to your thief problem.
If you want to excel at WvW as a person or as a guild you have to understand the mechanics of everything that is involved. In the case of GW2 that means understanding the mechanics of a lot of things. Most things are rudimentary but some require that little bit of extra thinking. Like the stealth stuff, you feel like its bugging you out? Why not use the PvP arena Heart of the Mist to create a Thief and try and see what it takes to create theses perma stealth situation and, more importantly, what you can do to counter it.
TL;DR: This is a game, not rocket science. Figure out what to do instead of screaming and forcing others to fix it.
Common (guild wars 2) sense.
If they put rewards in the form of items on winning servers you can say goodbye to population balance. Even more people would just transfer to winning servers and it will become even more boring and lopsided.
Stomping a different server or fighting for a Nr1 spot in your matchup or ladder should be all the reward you want.
Oh and I forgot to mention the Thief stealth issue.. This shouldn’t be an issue if you are in a group with 10 or more people. Try to make out if its a thief using combo fields to stay in stealth or that he/she is doing CnD. If it’s CnD stack up and lay down AoE around your group.
If it’s combo field thieves you spread out and try to cover as much ground with AoE, a combo field thief has to use #5 skill to keep it going, he/she is going to hit you at some point and he/she will have a 3s debuff. I have succesfully managed to find thieves (with a single group) this way in T2 and so far done it twice in T1, it’s about coordination and keeping your eyes peeled for the circle thingy of thieves popping in and out of stealth.
Yes it’s annoying and I don’t know if ANet meant it to be this way but it’s NOT a game breaker.
