What is Marjory afraid of? [Spoilerish]

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

If I remember correctly there was some dialogue between Jory and the PC in episode 1 about this matter. It seems momma Delaqua has some serious issues with nobility.

Now that you mention it, I remember this. That makes more sense than the other explanations….

Kas and Jory’s relationship is a problem because of Kasmeer’s family background. Likely Marjory’s mother had been personally wronged by nobility in the past and it has the her harboring some anger about it.
In the last 25 years, plants have started walking about and talking about peace and everyone has been okay with that.
Humans battled Charr bitterly and now they have their issues, but at least can respect each other.
Getting issues in our world confused with Tyria. It happens.

I want people to die Game of Thrones style.

Can’t wait for Marjory and Kasmeer to send out RSVP for nuptials.

I’m a little torn.
Yes, I think Belinda’s existence was just a plot device. The irony of the The Dead End bar showing up unannounced. She didn’t belong and I got a “twinning” vibe from her and Marjory. They were too much of the same. One of them was going to have to go.
However, the fact that they went did the trope with a female character was disappointing. While this removes Marjory for a bit, (can she be absent for at least one episode to mourn and not gloss over that she lost her sister.) there is an opportunity for Kas to stand on her own as she did against Scarlet.

Thinking back to FFVII when Cloud approached a praying Aerith, I wonder if the PC could not be showing signs of mental instability now. We go to see the Pale Tree or Queen Jennah and go off the deep end at the appropriate time.
Aerin seemed fine and didn’t seem to have ulterior motives joining the Zephyrites. His personality changed later.

Don’t you think there was already an attempt on Jennah’s life when she unveiled the Crown Pavilion? There are leaders thought Tyria, but I guess we would best look at who has the most effective resources to fight an elder dragon. Even though humans have rule in Kryta, they have not contributed any extra effort to fighting the dragons.
The Pale Tree has more invested in battling Modremoth than Jennah, as every one of her children have sprouted with at least the intent to fight elder dragons.
The Master of Peace is another possible candidate, if he has anything to do with the legacy of Glint. If he out there looking to save his people, that is.
Zephirites meeting those centaurs that are sympathetic to the teachings of Ventari may have been the most interesting part of the story for me. Makes me wonder if it was all still a coincidence they crashed where they did.

I mean, we have titles. It would be nice if we could use them as more than window dressing. I notice the NPCs do use the correct pronouns, so they are paying attention to that, and sometimes even our professions and race.

I don’t know many friends that go around calling each other by their full names, but also they have a way of speaking in a group that implies you are the subject or the one they are talking to.
With Boss, I don’t mind, but it should/could be associated with one character as a nickname for the PC. Rox calling the PC Boss could be her thing, while other NPCs say something else entirely. (I’ve always been partial to “Sir” regardless of gender.)

Topic.
I have characters that have that have combinations of crafting skills I don’t care for that were made at the spur of the moment:
“Why do I have 3 Artificers?”.
I have made new ones that I want to train after another character maxes out a discipline:
“Master Jeweler plans to retire and apprentice someone else.”
It is also gets expensive to train multiple characters in the same profession, as the new Dry Top recipes have shown me:
“Did I get everyone the recipes they need? Do they know that one already? Did I just get 4 recipes for 3 Artificers?”

The idea that one character can train in 3 professions has been added, but is there an option to simply retire one completely?

Investigation Group: the Sylvari member?

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

We could always kill one of our Destiny’s Edge 2.0, unfortunately, it would probably be one of the humans. My character is Sylvari, so that completes the group perfectly.

No, very fortunately. Hopefully it’s Kasmeer.

Marjory is a very interesting character but Kasmeer seems so shallow and boring. Maybe she dies in the jungle or waste if we’re lucky.

I’m thinking it will be Belinda. We’ll see though.

Marjory was supposedly the one to have been up for the chopping block in Season 1 until evidence of spoilers became widely known. I don’t expect ANet to try again with the same character.

However I’m skeptical that either Marjory or Kasmeer will be dying simply because what their relationship represents. A lot of people would be outraged if I were to hazard a guess. So I think, if a death is going to happen, it would be some minute character whom has a connection to the characters of our story – that being Belinda as she is Marjory’s sister.

I don’t like the idea that they can write a major character out the story like that, even if they did. As much as it is touted that the current story has been planned from the start, things like a character’s death is a trivial rewrite that can only mean that their further inclusion isn’t necessary to further any events or plot.

But I digress.
As to there being another Sylvari, I could hope (hope being some vague future release), that we would find one from the awakening Echovald Forest. This would not only possibly open up Cantha for us again, but perhaps find that Syilvari there, at least what we define as Sylvari, may have turned out completely different based on life in that area of Tyria. Perhaps the secrets of their tree will have some answers that we would not have access to otherwise.

Or it could just be a neat twist.

Something interesting about Aerin...

in Living World

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Everyone has an angle.
The Master of Peace eager to help Lion’s Arch with a festival that was meant to provide “distraction” for people after the events that felled the city. While Divinity’s Reach’s approach was with the Pavilion, it was actively collecting donations for reconstruction and relief.
This made it seem more like the Dragon Bash in that it was cover for something else going on in the Cliffs.
The only thing we saw in Labyrinthine Cliffs were loads of shady deals and evidence of suspicious cargo. The conversations involving Carden and Parker Cole.

Both are trying to unload what they have quickly. And Parker doing her best to avoid the Vigil. With all the different orders and groups that are involve with defending Tyria, she is worried about the one specifically antagonist to the Elder Dragons.
Carden goes from confident to downright scared at the prospect of having to hold on to whatever he is has.
Has anyone seen these two in this release, dead or alive? Are they hiding somewhere near or around Lion’s Arch or did they go down with the ship?

Speculation: Is the Master of Peace, “M” or the real villain?
No. Because taking out the his ships there was not his intent.
The work of a saboteur, that wasn’t Aerin.
His departure is suspicious. Their heading. The sense of urgency, having known the cargo that was on board and that they may have access to Glint’s legacy. He seems to be heading, as Farzo said, toward the Bloodstone.

My brain just broke.

I hadn’t seem to grasp how they felt until that conversation.

They both come from similar backgrounds, with immediate family that have made legacies of their own, and and are expected to be of the same caliber as far as their heroics. Both have gone the astray of these expectations.
They can relate and support each other in this manner, not to mention, just being themselves. I can’t see Rox being able to reason with Rytlock like she is able to do with Braham (with Frostbite proxy). Braham having a compassionate side that isn’t all about forging his legend.
While everyone seems all goo goo eyed about Marjory and Kasmeer, I have liked the interaction between Rox, Braham and now Taimi.

While ANet said it would be dropping hints of future content in the Labyrinthine Cliffs, I have seen little different aside from the ship with the red sails Taimi and another Asuran mentions.
The only other new fixture seems to be a little ways off the coast is surrounded by NPCs named only “Stanger” that you can interact with, but can’t talk to. They are situated on structure around the debris of an Atherblade airship.
This, with the presence of other “Stanger” NPCs makes me wonder if since Mai Trin’s escape, there are some Atherblade stragglers in the Cliffs looking to harness the Zephyrites aspect knowledge for their own usage.

The ship with the red sails could very well be a Athership in disguise. It’s big enough to conceal one, it would explain the glow coming from it, and the discrepancy in the amount of cargo on board, if it’s being stockpiled elsewhere.
All speculation, but I haven’t seen much else.

Surplus Queen's Gauntlet Passes - uses?

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Ah well…looked it up. You get the chances from defeating the champions and I have all the stacks of gauntlet tickets because I don’t participate in gauntlet. So I’m back to nothing to do with them.

Go to gantlet -> take 3-4 gambits (all except sqeamish- exhausted? and crowd favorite) -> fight 1st boss of 1st tier -> repeat -> profit

Additionally every boss has a daily chest that gives 14-28 (1st tier 14 2nd 21 3rd 28) festival tokens in addition.

If you dont want to convert your passes to something useful, delete them shrug

This is where it becomes painful.
I have 250 tickets from the LAST QP event. This time, I have an additional 181 from doing the gauntlet this year. The Queens Gauntlet isn’t “paying out” enough to cover the time I spend there. One Festival token and chances that usually drop…more Gauntlet tickets.
Maybe when I finish getting the Festival Tokens I need for the whole event, I’ll head back to Gauntlet, but in all likelihood, I’ll have another stack in my inventory to deal with, and with the potential of this content returning, deletion is like flushing all that work/time down the drain.

Boss Blitz Lobbying System

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

I read a suggestion that mentioned a system like the Marionette.
I would not be against something like that, since a few mechanics are similar:
The unique mechanics for each boss.
Separate areas.
The adds.
A timer.

Scaling is seriously touchy. I can move out of the center lobby area heading out the door, and scale a boss for everyone below.
I used to last QP event to level some characters. Now the Labyrinthine Cliffs has events that reward players for participation consistently. The Queen’s Gauntlet requires only yourself and strategy. The Blitz, even with organization, is becoming an unrewarding way to spend your time.
I don’t think it should be easy, but it should be fun and not seem like I am wasting my (and everyone else’s) time when I come to help.

Don't hate on the zerg

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Don’t hate on the zerg. The zerg, whether you like it or not, is a core aspect of this game. Mechanics that you put in to split up zergs make the game LESS fun, not more fun.

Game Release Notes:May 20, 2014

Champion Event Conversion on Starter Maps Many champion events in the starter maps have been converted into veterans. This change is being made to ensure new players focus on learning the core game experience.

Nerfing the Champ Trains in starting areas are a pretty good indication the developers are clearly hoping to steer players away from the zergs. People got used to just DPSing enemies to death when first playing and now those same players call that the core of their gaming experience. This has been exploited in starter areas by players and bots, leaving little daylight between.
In short, it is a lie to think that what works in Queensdale, works everywhere.
With more and more foes becoming immune to zerging, we as players need to become better at communication and knowing our opponents and allies.
Splitting into teams to deal with the Queen’s Pavilion champs is if you are trying for a gold. silver or bronze completion reward. If you want to zerg, you get xp, a little consolation prize and wasted 15+ minutes of a foe scaled to deal with the excessively to give you the hint:
Zergs are obsolete.

If you won't give us mounts...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Let’s try this again…
I am trying to see what the point of mounts would be aside from aesthetics.

The Waypoint travel system is unsatisfactory
Then rent a mount for 10 silver to travel the same distance.
The cost of waypoint travel isn’t an issue. It’s the way the system is designed. If you are not making enough gold playing the game to support WP travel, then what are you doing that is causing it to be such a burden?
ANet will likely make a gem store item that reduces the cost for a period of time before adding mounts in this game.
Immersion
Not really. Immersion would be stable/parking/valet services that where you could pick up and leave your ride. I only know of a few places in game that house Moas like that. What breaks immersion is riding around in places where one clearly shouldn’t be riding. The horses in ESO are everywhere and looking very strange not using roads, running up stairs and vanishing disturbingly at doors.
Mounts are for everyone
There are currently 5 races that are very diverse in look and with pretty interesting animations on how each race and gender have their own style. The broom isn’t really much to animate around, as it has no moving components, but other rideable apparatuses or critters will require attention, for how it interacts with every race and all armors.
Devs have enough clipping issues to deal with without a load of unnecessary window dressing.
Mounts ARE lore friendly -site several examples as to what makes they lore friendly-
I will concede that lore indicates that mounts have been used throughout Tyria’s history. But currently, only Asurans use golems as such, to a degree. They also have the technology for the Waypoint and Gate network. Charr have their war machines in the Iron Legion and can travel quickly on all fours if need be. It doesn’t launch a strong case for the addition of mounts, it just seems to make it more awkward.
Because the zones are so big
With the exception of Lornar’s Pass, most are small. With multiple exits, and usually no more than a zone away from a major city or hub, the world we are in is pretty cramped.
The “2Cool4U” Factor
While I can understand a lot of cases for the addition of mounts, this is the one that I think everyone against the concept bristles at. If these are the sort of case one chooses make, let’s up the ante:
Mounts exclusive to Rangers only. Can choose to ride or fight at your side when initially charmed.
Guild Exclusive mounts: Via guild upgrade. Guild leader chooses mount and guild members of required rank have access to it.
Craftable mounts: Set up a stable or shop to craft transport or breed animals for mounts. Purchase upgrades to your shop for more room, and supplies.
Mounts as killable NPCs Mounts that end up in defeated state can be looted for items, but disappear like normal corpses after a period of time.

Even adventurers need downtime. That’s what I thought town clothes were for. In our towns kicking back, dressed like the locals in civies.
Town Clothes, I thought, were the default. There was a toggle switch to change into them, and if you wanted to go swimming, you could remove them.
I thought that by simply making outfits into armor skins, Town clothes would remain a default. The tonic option seems like it was a temporary fix at best and shouldn’t be the final solution for town clothes.

FYI for those that say Anet is ignoring this thread, after the BL Armorsmith issue was posted here, they shut it down. They are paying attention. Easy fix to disable the merchant. Our current issue with the actual implementation and dye process a more difficult issue to resolve.

Some thing tells me they realy dont care about the customer only there pockets. We the player demand a answer on how you plan to fix this and i realy dont care for gems. What am i gona do with them buy more costumes that might get screwed up with another patch at some point? make town clothes the way they used to be or im not buying anithing from you ever again.

First off, I really don’t like the town clothes and outfit aspect of the update, but am satisfied with the armor skin and dye system.
The constant complaining is making this thread seem like everyone HATES this new system.

After saying they have been working on some of these features since release, I can assume the one or some of following in regard to this thread:

• Since so many features were released at once, issues are prioritized according to if they are game breaking or not. Cosmetic issues will not effect the game as greatly as a skill or event that is not working as intended.
• They are working on this and instead of just appeasing players by saying “We’re working on it”, they are actually finding a way to solve the issue with real answers and solutions to update.
Simply rolling back that particular part of the update will do more harm than good, and refunding gold/gems isn’t practical long term.
• A fix will not be available today, next week or maybe even in a month.
Expect realistic fixes that take as long to correct as the problem was to create.
• That they are not going back to the old system, as I know very few developers that do it. We will either get a polish on this system or leave it as is.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

Re: town clothes and outfits.
I can’t understand why this couldn’t be implemented better.
I understand some mixing and matching of things so they would fit with armor types, but the inability to dye town clothes and limited options for outfits is…strange.
The good is that I don’t have 8 copies of town clothes in my inventory.
The bad/odd is that I have clothes shaped tonics instead that are red and black.

I like so much about the update, but this particular part of the Wardrobe feature needs so polish.

Town Clothes, the ones your character starts with, seem completely un-dyeable.
They come up Black and Red, but when you go to dye them, they aren’t dyeable as tonics.
If the default is broken, then what?

Why are MMO characters called "toons?"

I played GW1 first and always called them “characters”, or by main profession, as I had one of each. It is very telling when the second game gets some WoW lingo added to the jargon.

Reasons why Guild Wars 2 is awesome

I had some customers that had never played an MMO considering WoW.
I mentioned some things I liked and didn’t like about it, and then Guild Wars 2.
“Did I mention it was Free-To-Play?”

Proudest sale of the day.

I also love the story and lore of the world. The Living Story ended on such a big, devastating note. Lion’s Arch was my city and I have memories of it that will stick just as much as any other that I hold dear.
The art, not just the scenery, but character design too. In any other game the Charr would have been mis-proportioned furries. I am so glad for that!
The questing system that isn’t fixated on one objective I can go and eliminate hostiles to complete them, or help a researcher solve a puzzle. The flavor for my gameplay style and mood.
Dynamic Events that invite us in. They pop up and I can help or not. It may be to difficult for me to complete alone, but people can show up and make it team effort.
I don’t feel like I completed a quest. I feel like we saved the day.
Shared Resources for co-operative play! Playing ESO I was constantly losing races to nodes and chests. It was so disappointing to have to do this after playing Guild Wars 2. A friend invited me to play WoW and I had a time of it when helping others and not receiving XP for helping them. Guild Wars 2 system seems more organic.
I like the skill system Tying the base skills to weapons was a great idea that allows people to build around a preferred set, and meta counter-measures for people that face them.
For PvP and WvWvW this makes for some interesting match-ups with people that may know your build as well as (maybe better than) you do.
Weapon and Armor Skins are the best. Each character I create I build with a look in mind. Whether it be a cloistered healer, or a mischievous necromancer, I want to portray that visually.
Skins allow us that sort of freedom to be creative. I don’t know if everyone creates backstories, but I do.
I like the ambient stuff. For anyone that remembers the tavern hopping ladies in LA, this is pretty cool. So much stuff going on in the background that makes the game live more than just merchants in the market and guards at the gate. Kids played. People go to work. That guy that orders you out of his house when you go in looking for treasure…

[Suggestion] Mounts?

I am seriously sick of the repetitive threads concerning mounts.
I would like to see Guild Halls and capes.
The ability to sit in a chair would be great too.
There isn’t a need for them, as nothing travels so fast as to outrun a speed boost.
I will go even as far as to point out that in either game (Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2), I have never known any sort of rideable “mount” except for the Siege Devourer and to some extent the Luxon Siege Turtle.
So if by mount, you mean slow kitten tank, then sure. Why not.
Lorewise, it makes even less sense, as armies come to turn the tides in battle, not calvaries.
What will the supposed standard for rideable critters/devices be? Never seen a horse about. Dolyaks, Pack Bulls and Marmoxes?
Making the point that it is “a great gold-sink” makes the argument even more trivial with some bait to get devs to consider this part of a game they say they want to be different.
If the only suggestion you can make to improve your gameplay experience is to have a mount, then you are obviously lost.
ESO has a horse for $15 USD if you need your fix that badly.

Frequent crashing

I posted here about this ongoing issue with most of our Guild members.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Continue-Crash/3778262
This has been an issue since a few months after release for them. Even newer members have had this issue. Most have simply given up on the client ever getting repaired.
They have tried quite a few methods to get it to work again. It has become frustrating and more members have been effected as each patch comes out. I was able to repair mine, but I would hope that not everyone should have to be able to code to play a this game.

I think I know who E is ...[Theory]

in Living World

By “Evennia” I think you mean Livia, from Guild Wars 1.

As for E. I think it’s Caera trying to fight the influence that turned her into Scarlet. Circumstances have certainly dictated that she can’t interfere. She would have full knowledge of all of Scarlet’s plans, etc.

Caera wanted to stop the dragon from coming forth. Scarlet was under the dragon’s control. There could have been an inner battle for control going on, who knows, maybe Caera had some more control while Scarlet slept, allowing her to write the letters.

As for the question I’m sure that will be asked – “…but how does the letter E relate to Caera”. Why does it have to? Wasn’t the letter signed as “Mr. E” which could be read as Mystery. Instead of focusing on the letter look at the other meaning. Also if it was Caera that was writing the letters and signed it as her own name, how likely are we going to treat it with any seriousness. You get a letter from your arch-nemesis’ alter-ego there is little chance you would take it seriously. Get a letter signed by Mystery/Mr. E (also a deliberate divergence of gender) and you might take a little more notice – especially if events mentioned in the letters prove to be true.

Edited to add: to the voice issue. We read it (or had it read to us) in a male voice but it’s not like voices can’t be disguised at all can it?

Just my thoughts on that

This.
Pouring over the evidence at the Dead End and her Journal was when I got the feeling that Caera was losing the fight for her sanity and knew it. Her story was tragic. By the time it was over, it was all Scarlet, and the memory of Caera enraged her. That at the end, someone remembered her name instead of scorning the name Scarlet Briar.
As a theory, this one is nearly as intriguing as the possibility of Lord Faren.
