While I am in my 40s’, and it isn’t surprising at all that there are players older than the target age bracket. The game is casual, beautiful and friendly for the most part.

The Cure For Gold Seller Messaging?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Much like using the trading post to get around currency transfer limitations, gold spammers will navigate the problem the way regular spammers use regular email, with opening statement to get you to accept and then open it to receive delicious spam.

The problem is caused by players that keep buying gold. They are who we don’t see in all of this unless their accounts get stolen. On that end, the better way to deal with that is to have the ability to report those outrageously priced items on the TP that the gold buyers post for the gold sellers to buy to transfer gold.
Only ANet can see that information, and deal with both parties…at least until they find another way to game the system.

Creating New Character Good & Bad

3) After trying several dozen possibilities the first-time player starts experimenting with unusual name ideas…. then blamo … one gets accepted and you are sent directly into a cinematic. …. kinda sucks. (yes WoW behaves the same… except lacking all the great character customization)

So as I pointed out… the only solution is to create a dummy “throw-away” character to find a desirable name, which you later delete. Then you create your “real” character.

I think it is a perfectly viable to want a feature that can check a name’s availability in character creation rather than at the last “Next” button.

Creating New Character Good & Bad

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

I don’t know of any games that allow making a dummy character without a name.
It tells you at character creation if a name is available. Suggestion is to skip to the end of character creation, see if the name is available, and then go back and create your character’s look and story.

If you are having trouble, giving a character a title or a first and last name is helpful with character creation.
Humans and Norn have both first and surnames.
Asuran characters may lack a surname, boast themselves an accomplished in their field of study. Charr take to names that reflect their warband and/or status.
Sylvari names are harder, as they have no need for surnames. Titles are possible, bit they are more likely to have one name.
Here is a whole article about how one can explore the possibilities:

…and there are generators, like this one:

Gold spammers reborn?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They are working multiple angles here:
• New accounts popping up and spamming map chat and whispers.
• People getting accounts hacked.
• A new money transfer system pointed out on reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3253rz/ok_so_who_did_this_0_o/

Low cost items being posted at extravagant prices, then snatched up seems to be the workaround for the limits imposed on email transfers of in-game gold.

Suggestion: Makeover kit at char creation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Another option would be to have it recognize if you have one in your bank, or purchase with gems with a Character Creation mode version. Select the kit to use the features and it consumes it then. The only issue I find with this is that you can change genders with the kit, but it is pointless when first creating a character, so one of the features in technically lost.

Sorry that happened.
I like watching the story mode as well and record cutscenses for my characters since the Personal Story is not repeatable and the dungeon story mode is part of them. Most people are looking to get the dungeon done, rather than watch a cutscene.
Before things get going, let people know its your first time and want to watch the story play in cutscenes. I don’t know if it will help in the future, but it will let others know your intentions.

Not being able to get a decent name

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

First and last name is the way to go. A lot less chance someone has it, unless you are picking a name from a movie, book, or TV show you like. But let’s face it, that’s about as uncreative as it gets.

My human and Norn characters have first and last names. Many people have taken to the naming scheme of other races and adding titles, (Professor Plixx for an Asura, Kira Ironclaw for a Charr).
Sylvari are hard for me, as they don’t really need surnames at all.
I kinda went middle ground. Had a character I really wanted to name Toji, but a short name like that was of course taken. Being a pirate themed character made it natural to add some flair, so Capn Toji worked just as well.

Just tried ESO

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

When I was doing the ESO beta, I did some bug reporting, but it was clear that changes and suggestions were some something they were going to file away to be looked at later.
I had concerns about the loot management system being clunky (instanced, storage, crafting, selling). GW2 players got what I meant, while others used to WoW, found it just fine.
The biggest flaw I found with the game is that as a much as I love the Elder Scrolls franchise, I despised how ESO handled it. I understand that making a single player experience in a multiplayer game is difficult, but there isn’t enough encouragement to play socially. Other players just seem like annoying environmental obstacles, and the game rewards you for it.
They used a lot of dated concepts and executed many poorly. There are many that will enjoy that in the game, or fall over themselves because it has mounts, but it fell flat for me then and as my spouse still plays on occasion, they haven’t changed enough to bring me back as more than a casual observer,

A full map creates an overflow, even if that full map has players AFK. If I am trying to get on a map that has enough people to do events, it absolutely effects me as well.
I came into a low population map last week and it was the worse experience I had since the area first opened. Forts in Mordrem control, events repeatedly failing.
Its discouraging and poisonous to an otherwise charitable community.

Lol do seriously mesmers get shield?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

All other classes get cool weapons like engi hammer, druid staff, probably thief rifle, we get a lame off-hand shield that are completely out of context for mesmers. from all the weapons that could easily fit the mesmers like dagger, axe and even main hand pistol we get the shields, i dont know i hope there are some mage like skins for shield with HoT to fit my mesmer style at least, otherwise that wasnt a good choice tbh.

I’ll take “Not listening to anything the devs have been saying for the past 2 months for 800”.

I’ll take “The Devs not listening to anything the mesmer playerbase has been saying for the past 2 1/2 years for 800.”

Your point adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. The shield is not for mesmers; the shield is for the Mesmer specialization.

My point is, we literally have 0 idea of what the Mesmer specialization can do with the shield. A regular Mesmer cannot use a shield, so why this is an issue is beyond me. When they release more information about the specializations (and how they are very likely NOT just extra weapon skills tacked onto the profession), then we will know why they chose a shield.

The shield seems to give Mesmers time manipulation, which would work for the class just fine. We don’t know the details, so we don’t know how it effects the gameplay.

Welcome to Tyria!

Once piece of advice…do not race to Level Cap. Enjoy the journey.

Good luck.

True, another piece of advice, go off the beaten path. There are other ways to level beside doings hearts. You never know what you may find if you aimlessly explore :P

Highly endorse this.
I have more fun finding hidden things in the game, that are of no value except to see them.
An example is that while I had traveled the Brisban Wildlands zone many times, I had a gotten lost in Toxal Bog area. Its a mostly a tangled mess of vines and swamp gas. I was cutting between some trees when one lifted off the ground and knocked me back.
I look up and its a frikk’n giant!
I got up and ran to high ground. I turned back to see if it was still in pursuit, just in time to see it turn and meld back into the scenery.
I know why its there now, but to have passed so many times without seeing anything reminds me there is much to discover in Tyria.

The downside is that it made the game less about community and AI does not make up for a actual mind controlling a character.

When the Silverwastes first became explorable, people were enthusiastic, much like Dry Top. I hadn’t messed around there since it first opened up, but I decided to try it again tonight.
I don’t know if it was the map I was on or not, but it was pretty boring.
No one escorting supplies from Camp Resolve, a few people on defense at forts and overall spread thin.
I don’t mind zergs if they can organize. People willing to learn the mechanics because team efforts are enjoyable for me.
Tonight, crickets.
Low map population, disorganization make for low rewards. It made my time there feel unproductive. I have yet to complete the entire map, but today was not the day I was going to get anything done.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

I think the hardest issues to resolve with clipping is what to do with hair, and Charr body models.
Hats and masks that remove hair is an annoying solution to a issue that they have had since the original Guild Wars.
“Make a basic hair model to accommodate the hat, or design all hairstyles to have a version that does not clip with the hat.”

Charr have the complication of being a really great in design, but are both bipedal and quadrupedal digitigrades, having an extra moving appendage and horns.
Designing (or re-designing) armor for Charr I imagine is a nightmare.

These are all legitimate design issues that an artists and devs would have to work together on. We would really like to see this game be the best at what it does.
The sideflappies on my Pirate Hat are really annoying and I would like to see the roguish coif peek from underneath. I know why they are there and that makes both the gamer and artist side of me sad too.

Right after I decided to press my luck and find a fractal group, something I never have any luck with.

Like the Renowned Hearts, they gave you a choice to do things according to your play style. While doing Fractals is something I plan to do, with everything else going on, diving in right now is not something I was able to do, and I get the impression that was the situation for many. Not everyone has gear to run Fractals, even without the infusions at the lower levels. With the holidays, not everyone has their guildmates and friends available as well. And while I have seen folks selling their time to help with Fractals, it really takes away from learning the mechanics and actively doing them.

With WvW, PvE, and PvP options, why not have Dungeon dailies as well for dungeons and fractals.

Dumb reasons why you can't play a class/race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

Sankofa Jimiyu.1567

I have one of each race and each class, and have found something to like about them, but I have had personal hangups about each of them on the way to 80 and beyond.

Racial issues:
Humans: For a race “making its last stand” there are certainly a lot of them. And they have forgotten how to dual class in the last 250 years.
Sylvari: Anet’s “Mary Sue” race. Sure they are new and their history is still being written, but I would like to see the focus off them eventually.
Asura: The superiority complexes are cute for a bit, but wear thin quickly.
Charr: An ancient foe. Played Guild Wars for years and can’t help but be upset about that. Walking around the Plains of Ashford only makes me hate them more.
Norn: Jumping Puzzles hate them and the Charr.

Profession issues:
Mesmer and Engineer: Pain to level. I had to force myself to keep interest until I became useful/able to survive fights.
Warrior and Guardian: Hit all the things. Not enough support love.
Thief: Would have preferred a dedicated Assassin profession separate from Thief. It feels messy.
Elementalist: Once you master Fire Attunment, there isn’t enough reason to do anything else.
Necromancers:. Small army incoming.
Rangers:: Strictly pet focused and pet AI is still wonky.

The Runes are from the Rite of Ascension in Augry Rock representing Elona Reach, Thirsty River and the Dunes of Despair.
Maybe the snakes refer to either the rite or Augry Rock itself.

You should have played Glints lair in GW1. Even on normal mode it was a lot more challenging than this.

Don’t bother. Players have gotten spoiled with the “difficulty” level of GW2.

It caters to younger players, and those of impaired intelligence. I bet if you make everybody who plays gw2 play a gw1 mission on hard mode, 90% would ragequit after the first mob.

Hero AI wasn’t an free pass solo win. I am still having issue with Jennur’s Horde in Nightfall because it requires a lot of coordination that is easier to do with players than AI.

Hidden Arcana walked you through all you needed to know carefully. There is a lot of content in GW2 that can make it confusing for new players, but I have learned if it is meant to be a boss fight, it isn’t meant to be easy or predictable. Before running in, look at what’s available in the environment. Chances are, its there for a reason.

Plus Marjory with spirit infused greatsword doesn't hurt your odds either.
