If this where to be done, it would be a gem store item. It’s an item that’s at best, a QoL item, much like the home portal stone, also a gem store item.
Whilst I don’t particularly care one way or the other I would say this:
It doesn’t have to be a GemStore item. I have often thought that those of us who like exploring end up with an awful lot of excess Gifts of Exploration. I envisage a Mystic Forge recipe, requiring multiple of these, to create a re-useable item to unlock all waypoints on new characters.
Other such Mystic Forge uses for Gifts of Exploration could include infinite road markers.
The OP isn’t a troll, because a troll isn’t “someone who disagrees with you” or “someone who has an opinion”.
A troll can be neither of those things, and simply a forum user who posts about a subject that everyone and their grandmother has always posted about, because they know it gets a rise out of other forum users. Those users who reply directly, let’s face it, generally enjoy doing so even though they might claim otherwise.
For me, it’s irritating seeing the same complaints come up time after time. Maybe he’s not a troll, sure. Maybe he’s genuinely a new(ish) player with a gripe. Also, maybe he’s “yet another user who can’t use the search feature” in order to find one of the other 1000 posts on the same topic to post in. And now, I’m past caring.
Really love the new sound effects in the sewers in LA. Running water, dripping walls and the sound of rats makes for a much more immersive experience there.
if you look at the foodchain in this world, human is at the top because they have the highest IQ.
Yet the Charr retook Ascalon from the Humans, and Orr was sunk to avoid the same fate.
Both the Norn, Sylvari and Asura have all managed to carve out pieces of the world for themselves, but the Human race has become more and more confined.
I’m not buying your claim. If humans are so clever, a load of feral cats and their false gods should not have been able to breach the wall all those years ago, no?
Dont feed the troll.
Whilst this is true…
Do NOT level your char, play it, you’ll be 80 long before you exhausted the content to play
…this is more true, and should be recognised regardless of how much of a troll the OP is.
This merged thread contains a lot of feedback about the name Dragon Hunter. In addition, it merges a couple of polls or petitions. (Please note, the observation about forum petitions is correct: They are not something that we support or allow.)
Please keep your feedback about the name in this thread so that devs can read all your thoughts.
Thanks.
Is there any chance that perhaps the Devs could post explaining their thought process when creating the name? There must be a reason why ArenaNet settled on a name that doesn’t seem in-keeping with the rest of the profession/specialisation naming structure. It’s like calling a specialisation a “Crabgrabber” or an “Applepicker”. There is something very static and decisive about a name that doesn’t seem like it’s been made up of two words picked out of a hat.
Either Guardians will get a big punch in the face and Warriors will get “Paragon”, or there will be something equally as ridiculous as “Dragonhunter”.
Perhaps… “Hermit Crab Terroriser” with a unique profession mechanic where F1 skill deals more damage to Hermit Crabs?
“Hambow Pro” Where your F1 skill activates a combination of the Hammer and Bow F1 skills?
“Cabbagemuncher” where your F1 skill spawns 10 Cabbage nodes around you which help you seek out stealthed mordrem?
Hambow 2.0
Rune of the Trapper.
Stealth Hambow coming at’cha.
Is there a reason not to pick the elite spec over a existing one? I mean it strait up buffs virtues, giving you a leap among other things and you do not lose the passive effects.
Only having access to only two core-traitlines is a rather good reason for certain builds to not pick the elite.
In addition, although presumably still to be confirmed, the elite spec will include a lot of traits buffing traps and the bow, maybe the additional virtue function, so if any of those things do not fit a build then there’s every reason to ignore the elite spec.
As for the name, I think it’s nifty.
If it were a warrior or ranger, sure.
PS: Watch Warrior end up with the Paragon spec.
I’ve already predicted that quietly to myself. Maybe they’ll also get Staff, and shoot banners out of the auto attack at 1500 range.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
Rune of the Trapper + Heavy Armour. Stealth Guardian at your service.
The name is horrible too, by the way.
Everything else I suppose I’ll reserve judgement on until tomorrow.
I could be completely wrong, but I am going to run with the idea that each elite spec will also get access to a previously exclusive skill type, much like the Chrono got wells. With that in mind here are some ideas:
Guardian = Banner or Mark skills
Thief = Kit or Gadget skills
Elementalist = Mantra or Clone skills
Warrior = Kit or Survival skills
Ranger = Deception or Stance skills
Engineer = Banner or Clone (hologram) skills
Necromancer = Spirit or Ward skills
I think you’re more on the mark that this is a way for ArenaNet to give current professions existing skill types that they previously didn’t have access to.
When enough elite specialisations come out, perhaps we will see more rune sets and sigils affecting skill types, such as the set we currently have for Traps.
I don’t like your idea of Elementalists or Engineers with clones. I think some skill types need to remain sacred to their original professions and clones are certainly one of those skill types.
You talk about Necros getting ward skills. Wards, if I recall correctly, are only available on 2 Guardian weapons. It would be nonetheless interesting to see skills which appear on weapons made into utilities for the new elite specialisations. Wards would fit Elementalist much more appropriately than clones would, especially since it’s a skill type they had access to in Guild Wars 1.
You might be right if the effects work mathematically accurately, but how can you be sure that the game doesn’t do an overall calculation before it applies the results?
For example. The game recognises you have both alacrity and chill on you and automatically cancels their effects out, like balancing an equation.
I’m sure for a mathematical purist you will deny that this could never possibly be the case, and I don’t care one way or the other, but it feels like you’ve not considered the several ways in which this system could work.
The F5 skill Continuum Split has a weakness, that will be taken advantage of: it returns you to the original position you cast it. That means for PvP, people will know exactly where you will you come back. Expect that spot to be cover in conditions on return, or someone waiting for you with a pull/push/interrupt.
Doesn’t every build need some method of counter-play? This seems quite acceptable to me. The opposing player still needs to plan ahead and be aware that the Mesmer could ping back any second, and remember when the Mesmer used Continuum Split in the first place.
Gemstore Glider skins.
Dear ArenaNet,
I have just hit 25,000 achievement points. Excitedly, I opened the achievement reward chest and began carefully putting away my rewards.
Mystic Forge Stones….don’t stack
Karma Boosters….don’t stack
Experience Boosters….don’t stack
Magic Find Boosters….don’t stack
The +20 level scroll will not stack with either the first birthday scrolls or the second birthday scrolls, which are already unstackable with each other.
In addition to the above I also have one single total makeover kit that will not stack with the others.
This needs to end. Are you only doing this to force players into buying more bank tabs if they want to keep hold of their loot? It’s either that or carelessness. Neither is acceptable.
I have turned my non-stacking boosters into the generic enchanted reward boosts, but I cannot do anything to ease the additional inventory slots that your in-game items continue to needlessly occupy.
I’m waiting for Heart of Thorns now which will undoubtedly bring Mithril that doesn’t stack with other Mithril.
If you can actually SEE the player doing it, report him.
Unfortunately I did not, but it’s something I’ll be keeping an eye on in future.
Stand down, crisis averted.
So it’s either a REALLY long respawn time, or some guy has been entering without the key somehow. Someone in map chat was claiming it was possible just now.
Bit annoying I’ve been sat here with the key for 2 hours and some other player has just been entering without one and re-starting it’s respawn timer.

By “Grind XP”, do you mean “Stockpile writs of experience between now and HoT release”?
Presumably Tomes of Knowledge would work too.
In the face of relentless questioning they did announce that Tomes of Knowledge will work on day one Revenants and that they had not decided yet if Tomes would advance mastery tracks.
As a matter of clarity in design I hope they do (an XP is an XP is an XP…) but we’re all awaiting a final decision while some of us continue to stockpile
.
I’d be quite happy if they disallowed Tomes for Mastery progress, but I think that goes against the idea of them. They are conveniences for levelling, so I suppose, why not Mastery tracks, as it is their alternative to levelling in an XPac world.
I don’t really mind which outcome they settle on, but I’m sure if Tomes are not permitted then some people will be raging!
I don’t realy get some of you.
How can you claim that you have to grind to get to level up your Maserie? Well it is like how you have to “grind” to get to level 80 in this game as people say.
Something you need to learn, my friend. Some players really do consider everything, even loading the game itself, to be such a horrific grind, and completely fail to see that if everything was unlocked for you from day 1 there would really be no reason for the game to exist.
MMO Rule 1: If you have to move your wrist, it’s a grind!
(edited by Sarie.1630)
I have a completed Matrix Cube key and cannot gain access to the Steam Ogre area in order to complete the task for the Mawdrey crafting.
Another player had a completed key also, and like me, could not gain access.
Please fix.
Mastery Window
When using 3 monitors (5760 × 1080) the window extends across all 3 monitors and makes it difficult to see. Suggest confining it to the center window.
First world problems, eh? XD
1000$? Isn’t that a bit much for a video game? Frankly, if you like the game that much, paying something like 50$ for an expansion might be worth it. But hey, do as you want.
Perhaps he could just straight up pay ArenaNet to develop a dungeon!
Player-funded requests. The future for MMOs. You heard it here first.
So, now I’m throwing money at my screen. Where’s my Cantha?
By “Grind XP”, do you mean “Stockpile writs of experience between now and HoT release”?
Presumably Tomes of Knowledge would work too.
Notwithstanding the above. It is supposed to be a progression system. I don’t know why people are surprised that it takes a bit of a time investment to progress. I’m certain there will be more than enough events to farm up XP from, once you’re into the game you probably wont even notice. Gaining a level feels quite trivial after L80, it’s nice that it’ll mean something.
Not sure if this post is in the right area but I’ve searched for home and housing and no one else seems to have brought it up.
Everyone, their Grandmother, and all the pets in their Zaishen Menagerie have already bought this up. Players have been doing so since 1900, during the end of Queen Victoria’s reign, when her subjects would bow before her screaming “Player housing now!”. This was right after the great “Omg Mounts” revolt of 1895.
For what it’s worth, for the love of Dwayna, please no player housing. What’s the obsession? I just don’t get it.
Buy one additional node from the trading post.
Problem solved.
Looks like you addressed ANet’s money grabbing techniques.
“Lets inconvenience our loyal customers so they will pay more!”
It can be bought with in-game gold from the trading post, sold on by other players. When I say “trading post”, I mean “trading post” and not “gem store”. No real money needs to leave your wallet if you choose to buy from other players selling on the BLTC (who yes, admittedly got lucky).
You just need to put a price on your opportunity cost of having to go to a zone and find a node. Personally, I’m fine with gathering in the open world. Do it a week and you soon learn where the permanent rich nodes are, and where the high density of tree nodes are.
/shrug.
Seems you’re a man who cannot be argued with anyway. You just want us to tell you how right you are.

Since today, whenever i leave party or the all other people leave the party, my games crashes. o.o
Really weird
Just to confirm. Yes, this is a thing, I’m getting it too. For me it began within the last few hours.
Really, very annoying.
- Can’t buy traits (I haven’t verified this but have heard it)
Actually, I couldn’t buy traits from some sellers before the patch went live. I visited an alternate trainer and managed to purchase what I needed. The faulty seller in question just said I didn’t have the prerequisite knowledge to be able to buy from him, at my dizzy heights of L68.
I don’t know if anything’s changed post-patch for the worse, but it might be a fault with certain vendors instead of a patch bug.
6 days extra QA time.
/sigh
My guess will be 5 legends:
- Prophecies: Glint.
- Factions: Shiro.
- Nightfall: Mallyx.
- Eye of the North: King Jalis.
- GW2: ???. Maybe the Ghostly Hero? The Khan-Ur? An ancient hero that changes based on race?
I think likely this.
The ancient hero based on race seems perfectly legit. Surely, the Revenant will have access to racial skills, but maybe these will just be packaged up within a legend of that race that… sadly… noone will ever use, because while they’re cute, they’re largely lackluster.
I can see Shiro, Vizu and Kanaxai all work. Perhaps Togo, Saint Viktor or Archemorus as well. That is, if a Canthan legend is making it into the game at all. I have doubtful feeling about it.
Brutus and Sheena. Needs to be done.
Nah, don’t care. I main a Guardian and our meditations have always required targeting. No free Blinks and teleports for us.
As a fellow Guardian I’d just like to point out that the Guardian blinks, as I understand it, WILL be subject to the change in so much as if your target just gets out of range when you hit the button, nothing will happen.
This change seems like a big buff for Warriors. They are already able to get away from a fight irritatingly fast with their greatswords, now there will be less chances to catch up with them.
The dailies are meant to be accessible, no?
If you were a brand new player how sucky would it be if your dailies were:
-Craft a piece of ascended armour
-Complete a run of Fractals L50
-Remove 10 stacks of Tequatl’s Hardened Scales
-Kryta Forager
Completely unreasonable. If you want to do the higher level stuff, just do it because you enjoy it and accept that you might need to spend 3 mins doing dailies you wouldn’t ordinarily want to do if you want to maintain the daily +10AP.
I’m not a new player, but I’m fairly casual now, sitting pretty with my 24,500AP and I sure as hell wouldn’t want a daily to do the things on your “worthless” lists.
I’m also pretty sure that if they completely tailored dailies to players then you’d be just as quick to start another thread stating that you don’t want to craft a piece of ascended armour, or complete a set of guild missions, just for “the daily”.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
What makes you think we will be fighting Mordremoth directly, or that there will be a “final boss battle” at all?
Colin was very, very cagey in one of those previous press interviews when questioned about “the Mordremoth fight”
I’d consider AP or played time a better measure to reward loyalty than just signing in to a mailing list
Honestly I read “customer loyalty” as “amount spent on GemStore”! :p
Don’t mind though. Fingers crossed.
Maybe, when we will have to deal with the water dragon, they will be of use.
I too hope we see some more underwater content.
Also, there are dozens of ‘aquatic weapons on land plox’ threads already. why do you guys keep making new ones?
I rather suspected, as soon as profession specialisations were announced, that perhaps in the future we will see new underwater themed profession specialisations. In addition, special underwater mastery tracks.
Would seem legit that a huge underwater revamp would occur on the unveiling of Bubbles.
I know Underwater combat is what everyone loves to hate. Personally I don’t mind it, but feel that it could use a bit more variation in weaponry, and the additional mechanics that specialisations or masteries could easily bring to the table.
Nah that’s too mainstream.
I want a pet skritt riding a pet shark firing the anti tequatl laser cannon which is strapped to the shark’s back
Underwater, maybe.
Above land the Shark rides the Skritt and invokes the power of The Breachmaker on your enemies.
Brutus.
Sheena.
Cool ideas here!
3. If we’re going by profession then a big bad kitten eagle as ranger’s glider:)
And all of a sudden all “Legolas” Rangers rename to some version of “Gandalf”!
I’d really rather ArenaNet developed more meaningful content than just The Sims 5.
But I suppose it takes all sorts.
TL,DR: Don’t like it, don’t want it.
Like what? What kind of meaningful content would you like to see that they aren’t already working on.
i think that’s his point. “i’d rather them keep working on what they announced than see any of those features dropped in favor of playing house”.
Quite so. In my opinion any content is “meaningful” when compared to either player housing or mounts.
What I meant by my original “meaningful content” remark was simply that I’d like to see more Living World, I’d like to see the LW iterated on further to make it even better, and I’d like to see ArenaNet not wasting their time on The Sims 5 and Grand Theft Dolyak when developing new expansion packs, and instead creating new zones filled with content that really tells a story.
game development is a zero-sum game. you can’t just have it all, you need to pick what you want to work on.
In which case, can I just drop in that I’d rather they worked on Cantha than player housing. That aught to keep them rushed off their feet well enough to keep their minds away from housing.

Speculations, you say. I can speculate.
The following are my guesses:
Revenant.
Weapons:
Staff, Sword, Torch, Focus, Dagger, Spear (underwater)
I also speculate that this will be a non-weaponswapping profession.
Specialisation:
“The Ritualist”
Unique abilities: Summoning ghosts of heroes of the past. Much like Mesmer Phantasms. Imagine a large, ghostly Mallyx?
Revenant Profession Abilities [F1-4 skills]
This is a tough one. Perhaps these skills invoke powers of past heroes, and much like the Engineer’s toolbelt skills, change depending on your utility skills. I imagine the Revenant’s utility skills might well be named after past heroes – we have plenty of Monks to name the healing skills after, right? “Alessia’s Curse: For 3 seconds you expect to be healed, but realise Alessia’s ghost is half way across the map aggroing some more mobs.”
They probably get a bit different dialogue options and that’s it.
Perhaps a whole “second” “secret” expansion for Sylvari alone, where they get to play as corrupted beings?
On second thoughts, maybe the dialogue thing.
Do you think we will be able to master the ability of swinging our swords? Maybe Colin will be our mentor.
They’re going to make a Colin backpack. Much like the Job-o-tron backpack he has phrases like:
“You swung a sword!”
“You swung a sword again!”
“Hey, you swung it again. That’s great!”
I think it depends how long winded it is. If it’s a WvW-point-like-system in PvE, then account-wide is certainly for the best.
If it’s a 14-point trait-like-system then, I feel that account-wide might trivialise the whole point of this feature as an extended character progression system.

Brutus and Sheena
Little question: What’s NPE?
New Player Experience ( if i recall correctly)
what’s so bad about it then?
The question you should be asking is “What’s good about it?”.
#tumbleweed.
The demo is in 6 weeks, after that beta will start. Colin or Mike (sorry, i don’t remember which one exactly) said that things will start moving fast after the PAX East (where the demo will be available to play in 6 weeks). Half a year after the demo is not “moving fast”, it’s very super kittening SLOW, especially considering it’s gonna be 3 years by then. And they’ve worked on it for so long now, they said. So, no, none of this mambo jumbo with dates makes any sense to me.
Half a year would be moving “fast” since, if I understand correctly, this expansion has been in the works almost since the base game’s release?
All relative, my friend. o/
This seems like archeage all over… nice copy cat work.
And do you know what? It doesn’t even matter.
I never played Archage, but I did play Aion. I know Aion included full controlled flight, and not just gliding, but having the ability to glide in Guild Wars 2 will:
a) no doubt have that “ArenaNet twist” on it and;
b) make further use of that third axis, since everyone seems to hate underwater.
People need to quit it with the “omg copycat” remarks because, really, what does it matter? Hasn’t everything already been done by this point? Are you the sort of person who complains when the supermarket makes it’s own version of a branded product?
Also agree on a release around the third anniversary.
I have always rather assumed it would be on an anniversary, as they seem to like doing that, and was quite happy with it until the announcement. They seem to be saying that the expansion story continues directly from the end of the last living story. 8 months feels like a very long time to wait for that story to continue.
