Rytlock is all powerful. You’re not!
:D
Start making alts. You’ll have to do it all over again for each and every one.
Every…single…time.
I did this. I use trait unlocks as goals whilst levelling.
Problem solved.
Traits are something that is very close to ‘you need it’ (is mandatory), however to get them, the grind is tremendously high, especially all of them.
I’ve been trying to shortcut my way into the only other way to get traits (gold + skill points), so far in those few months, i only managed to get 300 skill point scrolls. Your most likely response: ‘WHAT? 300? That’s a hell ot of a lot’. It is. But in the way for unlocking traits its absolutely nothing. It’s barely enough to get one character all the traits (240 if you don’t count the XIII traits). If I imagined, that i didn’t level all character to 8 (and all professions) before the trait update, having to do this trait grind 1-7 times, that would be an extremely big grind. Potentially 1680 skill point scrolls necessary and 350 gold.
You could say, just do normal way then? That is just as much of a grind AND limits your choice a lot in how to get them. Only ONE CHOICE then to get them. The other option is like above skill point scrolls, wich luckely, quite some content now gives.
So to stay true to this pilosophy, either traits must be able to be unlocked in a lot more content (even pvp, that can unlock pve traits), wvw, etc, or the skill point requirement must be lowered a hell of a lot, (to something like 50-100 per profession to get all but the XIII traits).
Responding to this:
I don’t find traits to be grindy. I see where you’re coming from, however.
As someone who hated just about everything the NPE I decided I would level a duplicate alt, from the bottom up. I retain my dislike of almost all aspects of the NPE. Traits, however, do not seem grindy. To those people who don’t use Tomes of Knowledge, and use Traits as a set of goals to work toward as they level, you’re killing two moas with one stone.
Sure, if you’re not interested in PvE, or don’t want to level up in that environment, you might well have a tough time acquiring all of them, but the Trait changes seemed to be a way to get players into the less-popular content in the open world – all those champions that never got killed etc. I think it succeeded in that, and I like that is feels a little like capturing an elite skill “back in the day”.
I’m not saying that trait acquisition isn’t grindy, for you, as you clearly have a different interpretation of grind to me, but just thought I’d put out a different viewpoint for you to consider. I’m also not saying that I had time to gather all the traits whilst levelling (Personal story and story mode dungeons increased my level substantially) – there were a few stragglers left at L80, but far less daunting to acquire by that point, or expensive to pay for, or even just write off since not all traits are worth having “asap”.
^ NPE will be getting changes in Q2 as confirmed by Gaile. Whether it’ll ‘fix’ the issues, remains to be seen. But I think, if you look at the massive feedback thread, they’re aware of the current issues.
The only “fix” it needs is to be fully reverted back.
If the Personal Story is included in the fixing, however, I really hope they can un-butcher the story. Like when Sayeh al’Rajihd greets you in The Source of Orr, like she’d met you in Temple of the Forgotten God….when….that is in fact the next story.
Ugh. NPE.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
Step 1: Pop an Instant-20 Birthday scroll to get past all of the most intolerable parts of the NPE rubbish.
Step 2: Level normally until bored.
Step 3: Level Tomes.
I like the sound of a game where I’m not the last one to get reasonable rewards. The rewards I can use to enhance my character during its journey through the game.
Since Ascended and Exotic equipment is so commonplace, I imagine you don’t refer to stats. This infers that you want rewards to make you look good on your journey? I get that. I like to look good on my way through a game, but it is heard of for the quality of a story, and the fun of participating in the open world to make me completely forget about what I look like.
On the other hand, in a game where the reward tends to be aesthetics, the journey for many tends to be the acquisition of those aesthetics, after which is it just game over?
I like the sound of a game that I want to play for the enjoyment of playing, and not just purely for the loot at the end.
But then I’m a minority.
1 spec/prof would be a major fail.
This must be a bad rumor. Don’t believe this kind of second hand information.
Two specializations per profession is the absolute minimum. ANet knows that too. Otherwise this is no specialization, but a simple morph. Just an upgrade.
Or…is this simply a foundation for them to add further specialisms in future releases? I think so. As disappointed as you might be with only one right now, I think only one is what we’re gonna get.
I seem to be at 532 Mb with one file remaining. Have been at 1 file remaining for 20 mins now…
Edit. Restarted the client and downloaded a further 15 Mb or so for that last file.

We can only speculate until the real hype starts around March if it is an expansion.
or we can do nothing and just wait, instead of being a large group kids screaming around waiting for something we have basically no idea about
Some people find speculating fun. It doesn’t have to be serious.
Anyone who gets their heart set on something is silly, yes, and you can sit there being smug if you like, but there are some of us who are able to speculate with the full knowledge that disappointment might be right around the corner.
Think about it, they can’t possibly add full scale (current gw2 map size) expansion just basing it on Maguuma.
Why not?
LS Season 3 leads up to a final confrontation with Mordremoth, then in Q3 2015 the Heart of Thorns expansion is released. The player finishes Mordremoth in an explosive start, then returns to the Pale Tree who tells you that a rival Pale Tree can be found in the Echovald Forest, whose offspring have awoken a terrible menace – Mordremoth’s Sister! Maggiemoth. You must travel to Cantha and convince the fleeing Wardens to aid you to destroy the biggest, thorniest dragon of all time.
Also Scarlet did something.
Legit? Totally.
Heart of Thorns?
What he said.
A large patch/update/expansion telling the story of how Mad King Thorn finally broke back through to the mortal realm? Yes please. Dragons can go suck a brick for a year while we battle with Thorn.
Also I would also add this. “Cantha, pretty please?”
Im guessing you didn’t read my post fully or properly. Try again.
Your argument is “but..but..dragon bash”?
That’s not part of the personal story and festivals are always being re-written, re-scripted and re-designed. I’m sorry, but I find post-story Zhaitan references to be such a poor argument I disregarded it before.
A new race would require a completely new personal story, from start to finish. If a new race were to be introduced, it isn’t just a matter of making a new version of the Race Arc.
Why would it require completely new personal story? Level 1-20 section, sure…but other than minor tweaks to the dialogue where it refers to the players race, I don’t see why the PS needs to be “completely new”.
I’m not particularly pro or against new races, but I’m not sure it’s your place to say that there’s 0% chance.
….unless you work for ArenaNet. o.O
…do you?
If you do, then come stand in front of me and watch me throw a tantrum because there’s no Cantha yet!

I’m not saying it’s never been suggested before, but thanks for your demeaning post. It is, however, the only thing I wanted out of the last feature pack, and it was never included. Disappointing. I would be very surprised if every feature in GW1 that was not translated to GW2 has not been suggested, somewhere, on this forum. That’s not the point of this thread though, is it?
It was an amazing feature in GW1 and I’d dearly love to see a system brought into GW2.

trahearne’s poetry corner.
This needs to be a thing.
Mother in danger
I ’aint “doing a Logan”
Off to kill Dragons.
When they are caught their accounts are banned. Sounds like a good fine to me.
I used to blindly think that until I heard that a friend of a friend began botting, and after being banned by ArenaNet, complained to them, and got his account reinstated and a load of free Gems as a “we’re sorry for banning you” gift.
Needless to say all reports are he went back to botting.
Citation needed on this, I admit; it’s only word of mouth, but has certainly instilled a lot of doubts in my mind regarding ArenaNet’s handling of these kinds of players.
As I think about it more, it might be easier to simply give different dailies per player. Keep the task and reward the same (logger, events), but let the locations be different.
Just this. There must be hundreds and hundreds of possible dailies with the new system, why not just divide them into groups (so that you don’t get 3 gathering dailies, for example) and randomise it.
I went ahead and farmed so that I had 25 of each, saved 8k crests, plus I saved all of the nightmare keys that I got for successful completion. This should be more than enough to eliminate any further grinding next episode.
Depends how many “pieces” the mordrem item for the Chest piece will be broken down into!
Watchwork Portal Device.
Surely any profession can portal anyone else?
Why? As you stated, the defense events are stale, repetitive, boring and utterly unrewarding due to no loot from corpses.
You might not get loot from mobs directly, but after a round of the meta, with all the loot sacks, champion bags and chest loot I’m pretty satisfied really. 20 bags of fine/masterwork loot is about standard I think, each containing 3 items. The volume of champion bags easily make up for the foes rarely dropping any materials.
You can see why they did it though, surely? Everyone would just camp one fort and force Champions to spawn over and over. That would ruin the map the way the Amber Fort Chest Farm did.
As for the events being boring. Yeah, maybe…after so many…but I still think that they come so thick and fast that I don’t find myself getting as bored as I was doing the Clockwork Map Invasions last summer. Red Rock Bastion feels the most fun to defend, and feels the most lucrative to me. A nice array of potential bandit chest locations around it, and 3 Supply Bull events [Red, Indigo, Amber] it’s easy to get participation for.
Because we’ve been doing the same exact defense events for 6 weeks straight and ANeet just keeps heaping on more and more RNG?
Stockpile the unopened Mordrem parts for each boss until ArenaNet have released all the content. God knows I love my Achievement Points, but even I have the restraint to wait until all the RNG has been added before opening them.
Notwithstanding this, take a step back and look at how it’s likely to end up when this season is complete. You’ll have a zone providing a structured way of obtaining a slightly prestige armour set. Obtaining the base carapace skins (which are quite lovely as they are) is a piece of cake. Completing the Luminescent set might end up taking a bit longer than running dungeon paths every day to earn a skin set from dungeon vendors. To me, this is ok. Earnable armour skins are what this game has needed for some time and I’m pretty happy with the way it’s been implemented.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
See, this right here is why I’m a terrible farmer. Something like this seems so simple, and yet I’d never think of it that way.
At least you can learn from this. If we analyse the Living World a bit, it looks like they’ll be adding a map, slowly expanding on it over 4 releases, and keeping a reason for you to keep playing that content for as long as possible. With Dry Top it was Ambrite skins, I guess. With Silverwastes it’s RNG mordrem parts for the Luminescent skins. Skins which are, from my perspective, not as nice as their non-luminescent counterparts.
I’m not saying this practice is bad, on the contrary…if it keeps people wanting to play in an area for a long time, then great. If they do not implement content like this then the zones risk dying out as soon as the next living world map area comes along. The real test will be 1-2 years from now. Will people still be in Dry Top trying to grind out their Ambrite skins? If they are, and Tier 4 Sandstorms are still a common occurrence, then perhaps the new Living World maps are a success.
I’ve been stockpiling the unidentified parts like mad since the end of Echoes of the Past, and will continue to over Wintersday. It’d be nice to have around 30-40 of each type ready to identify when the final armour parts are revealed.
I also have another suspicion. This “rare gland” that occasionally drops. Calling it now… it’ll be a material for something…perhaps a new weapon set. That gland that, since November, everyone’s been happily exchanging for 50 crests. Hmmmmm.
ArenaNet rule 1. Stockpile EVERYTHING.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
Turn off UI.
You notice more of the beauty. It isn’t immediately obvious where enemies are since you can’t see their names, and no visible skillbar makes combat require a little more skill / timing / forethought. No minimap also makes exploring require you recognising where you are instead of flicking your eyes down to the bottom right of the screen every few seconds.
I did this with my latest run through the game and was amazed at how much more I actually noticed, and the combat was quite fun this way, though obviously has it’s downsides.
I largely agree with your post though. Too much of the world has too many waypoints for starters. I don’t know how I’d feel about having to do a corpse run though…less waypoints would be nice, which they have begun to achieve with The Silverwastes map.
Feature Packs should be more BUILD TEMPLATE SAVING SYSTEM focused.
That is all.
I’m not sure “unfair” is the word. I mean, the “zerker meta” has been basically “forcing” ranged professions to go melee since the dawn of time. Perhaps it’s time that some fights benefit players who prefer range.
As far as the Thrashers go, they’re ok. If I can’t stun and I’m full melee them I step out of their AoE for 2 seconds.
The Boss… yea… I found him irritating on Guardian, even with a Scepter equipped. Dem slow moving orbs…. The thing that particularly annoyed me was the Zephyrites in that instance. The boss would stop and they’d shout “Now’s the time to get close TROLOLOLOLOL—-LOL—LOL—LOL—LOL”. So you get close, and it activates one of those skills that deals silly damage from graspers out of the floor. Dodging out as fast as I could only left me with about 100 HP and a disinclination to take any advice from Zephyrites ever again.
All in all the most irritating thing about both boss fights in this patch (Terragriff and Predator) is the sheer volume of hit points they seem to have. I have to confess I got pretty bored waiting for the Terragriff to stop running around, and whilst chipping away at the Predator’s HP pool.
Seeing her, and her following us didn’t bother me too much. As soon as she was there, and seeing her act “strange”, I suspected that she would do what she did. What bothers me is that the episode ends with us NOT going to the Pale Tree to ask her “WTH is up with Caithe?!” That is was irks me. Was that TOO much for this story?! Because, let’s be honest – this episode was extremely short.
I would assume we’re not going to the Pale Tree just yet because: Cliffhanger.
I don’t reckon we’ll see more Living Story until after Wintersday now? Which means ArenaNet got themselves a lovely little cliffhanger to keep us talking for the next 6-8 weeks.
I may be wrong. Wintersday came at the beginning of December last year, though.
Thank you so much! Why don’t they just tell you this crap? It’s infuriating. I’ve wasted two days on this kitten because I didn’t know it couldn’t be done on the first run. -_-
I know, right? They should lock out achievements like this for at least 3 years just in case players can’t work it out for themselves.
Long Live the NPE!
Also, all accounts are equal. One account is no luckier than another.
“Let’s keep the whole world thinking that way, right Kids?”
You can’t replay Season 1 of the Living World but you can replay Season 2.
If you have not unlocked Season 2 content free of charge through logging in when that release is active, however, you will need to pay 200 gems per episode to unlock it on your account.
To come back to your statement about gear progression – we have Ascended gear now. I don’t know if you know about this. Exotics are fine, on the whole, however if you did want a higher tier of gear to grind for, Ascended is available now.
The only precurser to drop for me was from the glorious Precurser Giveaway of 2012 in Southsun. I dropped the Hunter, sold it, and bought the Chosen.
Have bought Venom since then.
I may have never bothered with a legendary at all if the Southsun thing didn’t happen back in the day. Good times.
And my motives are something like: I think it’s extremely silly that we’re nowhere near a single full set of these armors being accessible to even one player at the very top of the achievement totem pole. And I feel the design of making you go through both sets to get one complete is a sloppy remnant of slow implementation that would probably have been examined already (who knows, maybe it has) were it not for the numerous other more pressing issues that they’re dealing with.
Would the same argument be occurring if the only reward involved was a title?
I began GW1 over a year after it’s launch. It took me a full year to reach the first tier of GWAMM. Getting any more max titles seemed so impossibly far off I pretty much wrote them off. It surprised me, later on, how fast I ended up earning the additional titles to reach the tier I have today.
My point is that more content will come. ArenaNet seem to have learned their lesson about temporary content, meaning all this new LS is permanent, and the achievement points will be there to be gained ad infinitum. I think you underestimate how quickly AP will end up being gained, even by casual players. If players cannot get past the “I want it now” train of thought, perhaps they should go off for a couple of years, come back when most players are on 45k AP, and scoop up all the new achievement points then. The problem is, there will just be a new tier of rewards which will undoubtedly annoy them even more!
I’m not so much “pro-exclusivity” as I am “pro-marker of achievement”. A title is nice and all, but that feeling of finally earning your first full set of Radiant/Hellfire gear and walking around LA in it for a day will be supreme. After that it can be consigned to the Wardrobe as those skins are not particularly my taste anyway.
Did you have items in an invisible bag? You can’t sell them from those.
I can still sell items on the Trading Post wherever I am in the world.
I also don’t have the killer lag you seem to…. soooooo…. seems like you’re having a slighly unlucky experience. Perhaps you should contact support and ask ArenaNet to help you diagnose the cause of your lag.
Hey everyone,
While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future. We want you to be able to enjoy your minis so hang in there!
I was in Plains of Ashford. I couldn’t see any players around me, at all. Tried to display my mini…and got told the map was too full.
I moved to Wayfarer where the Maw event was active. I stood with the zerg and all of a sudden my minipet popped out. Almost everyone seemed to have one. Might I just say the same scenario happens with Tequatl, and an even bigger zerg, for me at least.
So, if this is indeed “working as intended”, ArenaNet have somewhat dropped the ball again. Not that you can see the ball, there are too many people here. Notwithstanding this, why doesn’t your “working as intended” system not take into account the number of players who are actually near you, rather than how busy the map is? I can completely understand minis being hidden when I’m with the zerg…but this seems to work the complete opposite to how anyone would expect.
Would like a toggle option.
[ X ] Normal Levelling Experience
[ ] I’m quite a simple fellow who doesn’t want a pet to control on his new Ranger in the tutorial area. Please make the game slower paced, and send a Dev to my house to hold my hand while I play.
… in seriousness, I wasn’t going to post in any of these threads. I have 9 L80s, I don’t plan on levelling any more and if Tengu comes out I have enough scrolls to make it L80 instantly. But you know what? I have to register my dislike for this system at least once, just so the objection is there. So here, ArenaNet; I might not care about the NPE where I am concerned, but I object to your changes.
Is it just me, or are there some problems unlocking some of these collection achievements? I’m speaking specifically, so far, of:
Brewmaster
Fine Wining
Hero of the People
Those three at least will not unlock for me. I’ve tried several of the items required for the collection and nothing seems to unlock them.
Is this a common theme, is it just me, or am I missing the obvious?
Anet please don’t forget about us – WvW only players :< Please start using those badges to provide us with items we need for the new items so we can feel part of this game.
Stop isolating WvW players.Feeling like the unwanted child for past 2 years started ho hurt a lot lately.
Maybe Rytlock’s coming your way! He’s gonna solo Stonemist.
At the summit the Quaggans are very much in your face. There’s no need to speak to them but it’s very obvious that they are present. After the dragon attacks, they are nowhere to be found.
That’s what got me suspicious about them. Pinning down a reason why they would be saboteurs is tricky though. They don’t appear corrupted, or particularly evil. They just seem like normal quaggan. I’m still suspicious though.
Further updates:
I ran the render test in that GPU-Z program and notice that it flicks up to v3.0.
Does this mean there’s a problem with it recognising when I’m playing GW2?
Thanks, I’ll start working through your list of possibilities. I downloaded MSI Afterburner. Again, I’m not sure what I’m looking at here, so I’m not sure which slider is “the power slider”. Assuming it is the Core Voltage – I cannot seem to change this at all.
This screenshot was taken with no GW2 running. Should I have GW2 running whilst I tinker with this so I can tell if it “wakes up”?
It might also be worth me checking something. The Power Supply I have has a PCI-E power cable with 2 ends on it. I have therefore used one cable for the GPU. Should I have used 2 separate cables? I rather came to the assumption that if a cable had 2 ends on it then both could be used to power the GPU, and therefore saving on the amount of cabling inside the case. Not sure if this makes sense – but the suggestion my Power Supply was weak had be wondering if this could in fact be an issue.
Tried using a second cable, made no difference
Edit:
Your GPU is in its sleep state and stuck. (PCI-E 16x @ v1 = Sleep)
I just tried reinstalling the graphics drivers. Whilst GW2 was loading the bus interface in GPU-Z was reading PCI-E 16x @ v3.0. As soon as I tried to load Hoelbrak it switched back to v1.1. Closing the game it seems to remain at v1.1.
Edit 2: Actually it slips down to v1.1 a short time after windows loads.
(edited by Sarie.1630)
Yes, GW2 was running in a window.
Check your PCI-E bus speeds for your 670.
If your IGP is enabled on the CPU, you are going to be pushed down to 8×. You can also have issues where the CPU is stuck at 1x due to power saving issues.
GPU-Z will tell you what your card is at, but you must run it while GW2 is running. Set the game to windowed mode.
Thanks for the reply. I can’t pretend to understand most of it though!
I downloaded GPU-Z and have attached the results. I’m not sure what I’m looking at here.
As for the “IGP” being enabled on the CPU. I’ve no idea what IGP is, if it can be altered, and how to alter it.
I’m looking for some diagnostic help today.
Last night I rebuild my PC. Current parts are as follows:
MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Mobo (New)
Intel Core i5 3.5 GHz CPU (New)
Corsair 850W PSU (New)
16 Gb Corsair Vengeance Memory (New)
240 GB SSD (Few months old, almost unused)
Gigabyte GTX 670 graphics card (Few months old)
I actually have GW2 on a slightly older SSD
My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit.
My problem:
FPS lag in game. When I’m standing on my own in a quiet place I can hit 30 FPS, but as soon as I get anywhere near another person, or start using skills, it will drop as low as 7 FPS. Not only this, but loading the game’s character select is slow and loading areas is also slow – a lot slower than it should be, and certainly slower than my old PC build.
Could this just be a bad install of Windows 7? Or something more sinister?
I’m happy to try to answer any questions and would be very grateful if anyone could help me solve this problem.
Thanks!
Note how there is vines entangling around a vigil/pact outpost in a green, grassy area.
An area like that isn’t that close to drytop at all…
From what I could seen it looks like the pact base in Timberline Falls
That was my first reaction after “Wait…what?”. I guess the effects of Mordremoth coming up from below shall be felt far afield?
I love the sound of the Centaur warhorn at the start, I can imagine hearing that and having to leap to the side in a Maguuma canyon while centaur trample through – could bring another interesting element to map exploration. I’m sure that was just cinematic though.
The best part of this story for me was inside Scarlet’s store room in the village. Sticking around after they leave Taimi in there, Taimi leads you to a hologram projector where Scarlet has left diary entries, all voice acted……..
……As you listen, and follow her progress in your mind, you know what’s coming. When it does, and her voice changes, it sent a chill down my spine. Games seldom affect me in such ways but that was very, very well done. Thank you ArenaNet.
Some hypothesis is that Razah may be a piece of Abaddon he separated from himself when he turned into the evil god he was.
I knew Abaddon and Voldemort were one and the same!
ArenaNet motto:
“It’ll be ready when it’s ready.”
If by mature you mean desert, then yes. It will be the first desert map I suppose.
Apart from that there are plenty of dreary locations to be found in the game, including but not limited to haunted misty forests, snowstorm infested mountains and full out decayed undead lands.
By “Mature” I don’t think he just means “dreary”. He means an environment that keeps you on edge, or even scared. Guild Wars 1 had a huge variety of landscapes, and as Guild Wars 2 develops and opens up it would be reasonable to assume we’ll be getting desert areas; it’s not to say that desert areas will be bad.
The scariest open world PvE I’ve played in GW2 so far was my first trip into Orr. Standing there at Fort Trinity looking over, just about seeing some land formations peeking out of the mist over the water, and then trudging through Orr, alone, in Blues/Greens…probably barely 10 people on the map at that time. The sounds of the dragons, the shadows as they passed over you, the knowledge that if you died you were back to the start of the zone all compounded to keep me on edge, and make me strive to play better. It was thrilling. Not any more, of course. All waypoints are open most of the time and with exotic or ascended gear the mobs are rather trivial.
Whilst I’d love to see some dynamic weather, sandstorms, and other features that made me feel like Orr did just after release I worry that the number of people trying to participate will completely trivialise it.
I see that some of you doubt the hype of dry top. I can see why, dry top is boring.
But because it’s so boring, makes it so interesting!
I’m not saying it’ll be boring, I’m just doubting the hype will be justified.
I’d love to revisit Dry Top. I’d love to revisit anywhere that was open in GW1. One of my favourite things to do on release was to try to spot all the little features, PoIs and easter eggs ArenaNet remembered to insert as a nod to the previous game.
P.S. I think Dry top is that scene from the trailer where two kittenes walk over a windy and dusty plane with the tumbleweed.
Dry top
It’s not two kittens, it’s Rox and Braham. :p
I’m keeping my excitement heavily contained in a big iron crate until the patch hits. I’m excited for the start of the season, of course, but new explorable zones is like a dream – I’m just not quite prepared to believe we’ll get what everyone thinks we will. Cragstead 2.0 maybe, extra bit tacked onto the corner of Brisban or something.
