Being offline all night wont reset the DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

From what I’ve gathered over the last few years.

1. It’s per character as Wanze mentioned, so switching chars isn’t going to alleviate it on the first one, but you could when DR hits one toon switch in another in the same place.

2. DR does not wear off over time, or if it does its insanely slowly. You *have *to actually take the char experiencing DR somewhere else and do other things/events/mobs.

2b. Imagine every time you kill a mob in Cursed shore you put a marble in a jar.
When the jar is full you stop getting drops, and the only way to remove DR is to kill mobs somewhere else to take the marbles out.
(Note, as should be obvious this is a simplified example, since they’re tight lipped about exactly how DR works the best we can do is observe behavior and try to extrapolate.)

The best suggestion I can make is come up with a rotation.
Either one toon through different areas, or multiple toons through the same, as even if you farm CS until DR hits on all of them eventually you do have to do something else.

Undiscovered Mystic Forge recipes?

True, not as bad as the initial Flamekissed armor based on T3 (honestly I didn’t have a problem with that myself, and that original skin was the only one of the 4 that looked good)
But people would certainly complain (some raged about the Lord Taere’s Shadow sword that looks like a small Fellblade with cool purple designs on it) about seeing a “better” (not really imo) version available in game (and boy oh boy would they rage if getting it unlocked the base version!)
I myself kind of expect you have to already have the base version and infuse it to get the infused version, but that’s just IMO.

For the elites it sounds like maxing the Trait line for the elite actually unlocks the new skin, I know at least thats how they said you’d get the wrench hammer skin, I’m guessing the others are similar.

Even salvaging a few dozen a day it’s still super annoying.

I’d still like this as an option. Honestly most people salvaging any decent number of rares isn’t likely to be using/keeping any of them to salvage on accident.
And if they do? It’s what, 30s, maybe 1g for a pricey one?

Undiscovered, and somehow not datamined by this point?

Depends on what you are referring to. It might not be possible to datamine combinations. The resulting items can be examined.

And wouldn’t they have slots in the wardrobe? (thus I would guess it’s not a skin)

counterexample . However, all previous forgeables did show up in the wardrobe.

“This article is about an unobtainable ascended greatsword.”

It’s not obtainable, so I wouldn’t expect it to have a spot.
However, I have noticed that things like the Bunny ears do not have empty slots, they only exist in the wardrobe if you already have them.
So it’s not beyond reason there could be other items with no slot until you actually unlock them.
Though I honestly expect the unknown recipes to be stuff like potions or some such.

Not sure they will, as wouldn’t that then make guilds/members without HoT unable to access their guild banks?

Still, since they’ve been less than forthcoming about the nitty gritty I will not be keeping anything important in my guild banks during the transition.

being told by an NPC what I have done even If I were witnessing it by myself… [LS season 1 summary cutscene]

“STRENGHT OF THE PACK!” [that on is really nasty… when they were making this skill a shout they should have do the same thing as they did with heal as one aka just add “we” on the beginning and “!” on the end “We Rampage as one!” actually sounds like a shout in oposition to “strenght of the pack!”]

Or maybe “Rampage with me!”
Or "We Rampage!
Or, you know, just simply “Rampage!”

That was my favorite skill
At least it sounds as lame as they made it.
Strength of the pack? Yeah a pack of juicy fruit

Not enough time to test Scrapper and Druid

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ScribeTheMad.7614

ScribeTheMad.7614

I work as Games QA tester (not for ANET) and i can assure you, that the fact that both Druid and Scrapper will be only briefly available to the players DOES NOT mean that they have not been tested.

You may not know that, but most game content is designed produced AND tested months or even years before being showed to the public.

Us QA-s are gamers like YOU. We notice the same issues and we care about the same things. We DO care for the final product. We want to be proud of working on it once it hits the shelves.

Truth be told, “BETAS” are just a PR stunt. Usually, most bugs submitted by players have been found way earlier and taken care of (or not).

Keep in mind though, that the fact that something has been tested DOES NOT mean it is/will be fixed. Reasons are many.

Sorry for the vent. Stating that something will not be tested is an insult to all those testers out there.

Cheers

Couldn’t agree more with mmorpg “betas” being nothing more than PR hype machines.

Agreed, all modern beta’s are nothing more than hype stunts. You would either have to be a broke indy dev, or stupid, to allow your customers to play a game that isn’t polished, at any phase of development.

All you would do is sow seeds of negativity and concern about your product, and hurt initial sales.

I see it more as a “get their reaction” and "make sure all the odd hardware/software builds people use work…you know the guy using some random Linux and running a voodoo gpu might have issues…but no one bothered to test that configuration.

To be fair, the last pair of BWEs were pretty truly betas, they changed a lot of stuff based on our feedback, at least from the first one, I know a lot of people couldn’t test the way they wanted to on the second one due to no bank reset, but it was still useful as a beta test.
Yes, they are meant to hype up the new content, especially when getting access to the betas becomes a selling point for the new content (something I disagree with), but just because they want to generate hype doesn’t mean the beta weekends can’t also be useful for content feedback before it’s “mastered to disc” if you will.

Why all the level 80 armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ScribeTheMad.7614

ScribeTheMad.7614

While I will agree that in certain instances it seems silly. Like in a dungeon run getting 3-4 blues from each chest is annoying. I know they can’t give me rares/exotics at that rate, even one per chest, without changing the balance of the economy, but throwing trash at me hand over fist is irritating, I’ll admit it.
But I do get mats out of it.

At the same time we all hate getting nothing. Getting nothing is the biggest baddest most horrible outcome of any endeavor, be it dungeon, raid, fractal, anything else.

Do you know why we get so much gray junk trash to vendor for coppers?
Because in early testing they didn’t have that stuff, and simply gave people the money, but people don’t count a handful of copper as “a drop” so people complained about drop rates being way too low.
The solution? Instead of giving cash, they give trash items that you have to vendor to get part of that cash (because never getting cash is also a problem), and hey now we get drops at a much higher rate, even if its really just an illusion created by the gray stuff.

What can they do? They can’t give us really good rewards from everything, hyperinflation would ruin the game, and they can’t give us nothing, because looking good and getting cool loot is a heavily motivating factor in why people play these types of games.
And even if you don’t get what you want at least getting anything means you got something for your effort.

Converting armor to weapons doesn’t do a freaking thing except make silk super expensive.
Let me repeat that, dropping all of that loot as weapons doesn’t do a freaking thing except make silk super expensive

All that blue/green crap? It’s the primary source of silk/gossamer/mithril/ori/leather.
Now it’s all just metal and wood?
And you still have to salvage the same number of items its just weapons instead of armor?
How in the world is that supposed to actually do….anything but make silk expensive because we’d lose a primary source?

The game has clicking issues, no one can honestly deny that, but this doesn’t actually solve the clicking problem.

Why do them even remove things from the gem store? Why take away options from paying players?

To make them buy it faster.
There’s also removing a lot of low-selling clutter, so that new options are prominent.

It’s pretty shoddy ethics, but there we are.

Its a perfect example of psychological response. A lot of people are now going to buy them before they’re gone because they know the items wont be available for a while.
Even knowing the stuff is likely to come back there’s a sense of urgency, something companies have been taking advantage of for ages.
Limited time sale! (every few months)
I’ve seen stores in vacation areas that spend the entire summer with banners proclaiming it’s their last week in business and they’re clearing stock, or its a one week special, blah blah blah.
Because it suckers some people, and it pushes others who are on the fence or who want it but haven’t bothered to purchase “because I can buy it any time” to pick it up.

None of the xp will be refound simply because you have to activate a mastery track to start filling it with xp. All the xp you gain with no mastery track activate is for naught.

We get that, I guess what we mean is why don’t level ups now give us a spirit shard and a potion of mastery exp that gives, I dunno, like 5% towards a (even just central tyria) mastery track?
It was always cool seeing exp from basically everything, now its just a reminder nothing I do counts or matters in the long term until after HoT drops.

That’s totally right. Just want to add: Anet allowed and agreed the same way to blc chest farm. We all saw last update where this went.

A fair point, they can always change their minds if things get out of hand, so everything I said is simply the current state of things, one should always go to official posts, like the sticky, for up to date info.
I would hope such a change would come with warnings, announcements, and such that what once was explicitly allowed is changing, and not just sweeping bans.

(this is why its so hard to get them to clarify whats allowed and whats not in the first place, as once they say X is allowed its a lot harder to stop/curtail X down the road, but at the same time leaving people with a super vague set of “rules” the breaking of which can carry significant penalty isn’t really fair to the players either.)

Asura and Charr Femininity!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ScribeTheMad.7614

ScribeTheMad.7614

Instead of having armor skins that are only for a single gender, I want to see armor that both genders can wear. For example, take your idea for a “skirt with adorable little bloomers underneath” and let both males and females wear it.

Don’t prevent us from wearing an armor skin just because our character is the wrong gender.

But as long as ANET wants to restrict armor skins by gender, I prefer the Charr and Asura having all the armor they can wear open to everyone instead of the sexism shown by humans, norn and sylvari when only characters of the correct gender can wear specific looks.

Okay so I just about died laughing, not so much at your post, but you made me realize something.

If they did that people will just complain “Why do the male/female versions look the same!?”
They change one so they’re different, and it’s “Why can’t both wear both!?”
They make them both wearable by both genders, now its “Why are both of them identical on male/female!?”
They change two, “Why can’t both genders wear all 4!?”
etc
etc
etc

For all we know they actually did that at the start, I mean Charr and Asura being races that seem to have little distinction between gender already had a lot of armor that was minimally different between genders (possibly for lore reasons possibly for saving time), it’s been a big complaint for years.
We already had what people were asking for to some degree at least.

But they can’t ever win here, no matter what they do people are either going to complain that they look the same, or that they can’t wear the version they want, and it’ll be the same people.
I know it, there are people who I’ve seen make both arguments, why are they the same, and why can’t both wear both.
It’s frigging hilarious now that I actually think about it.

Why fight something that has little impact on you?
(well aside from a bit of dev time to make sure everything works and doesn’t delete your stuff, but the option of more tabs doesn’t hurt you in any way.)
Don’t need more bank space? Great, good for you, you’ve saved money.
Some of us could really use it though.
And the argument that it would take up too much server space is silly frankly.
I can have 67? characters now.
I can get them all 7 20 slot bags.
They then each hold more than a bank tab, I’m feeling lazy and dont want to do the math, but its a lot more per toon.
In fact strictly speaking mules are far more cost effective space wise than bank tabs, but bank tabs are far more convenient, that’s why they’re more expensive.
So tabs pretty much have to take up less space than characters because 1 its far less storage per, and 2 it doesn’t have all the character info with it.

It’s like saying, well I only need 5 toons so no one should have the option of making more.

It’s the convenience mostly, I have a few mules and they’re a pain in the butt, even, as someone mentioned, using gw2efficiency to find stuff having to swap across 4 toons to get what I need is annoying.

LFG Tool Quickly Going Down the Drain

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ScribeTheMad.7614

ScribeTheMad.7614

I find it distasteful in the extreme, but arena.net hasn’t declared it verboten, so this is what we get. Personally, I wish they’d make an official statement forbidding it, an then actively ban anyone who tried to do it. Of course, the kind of people who buy and sell these services are hugely offended about anyone who feels this way. They always immediately start screaming “How are they hurting you?” “shouldn’t they be paid for their skill?” etc. I could care less about their arguments though, it’s just tacky and sad, exploitative on the sellers side and pathetic on the buyers. At the very least if Anet banned it they’d have to make shady backroom deals on 3rd party forums and such, and you wouldn’t see it in the LFG tool anymore, and that would be much better. They could hang out in the dark alleys of the internet making shady, shameful deals all they want, always fearful that their dirty secret would come out and their account would be properly banned.

Gaile has posted about that a couple times.
Explicitly stated selling dungeon/fractal/whatever slots was perfectly fine, as it was for the purpose of forming a party regardless of it being a party for like 30s or however long it takes to finish it.
She also explicitly stated that advertising guilds, buying items, selling items were not allowed. So feel free to report anyone doing such.
She also said advertising slots in parties to farm home instances was not allowed despite being for the purpose of forming a group to do something together, often longer than the last 5% of a boss’ health.
She said that’s considered an “advertising an access portal” and is not allowed.
Which by logical extension means selling ports to things like JPs, Golden Coins, anything else (via the LFG tool) is not allowed either.
In the same vein, Taxis are against the LFG rules, as they are advertising an access portal to content, not for the formation of a group, at least when it’s “join and leave”.

I encourage you to find the LFG thread, I believe its a sticky, get to know the convoluted rules, and then feel free to report people abusing it.

Nothing is going to happen if no one reports the abusers.

Trading post question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ScribeTheMad.7614

ScribeTheMad.7614

It’s not an auction house, its a trading post.

What this means is you place a buy order for 5 silver, then someone else places one for 5s01c

His order will fill first, always, because his is the highest Buy Offer, then you, assuming someone else doesn’t also place one above you.
This happens a lot, the TP is global across the entire game (for major regions at least)
It’s best not to micromanage your sell/buy order too much.

Prices fluctuate, moving up and down regularly, so if you list something and then see a bunch of others listed below you/above you that doesn’t mean you’ll never buy/sell, it just means the price is trending up/down and you’re priced too high/low (at that moment)
If you wait often the prices will change again and yours will sell.

I’ve had things take days/weeks to sell because they were pricier/more slow moving items

It was made very much clear that the accounts would be cloned ONCE for the Beta weekends and continue across all Beta events. It is the player’s fault for not reading this or having other issues with it.

Besides, it does not matter on bit. There is a singular Beta Weekend event left between now and the HoT launch on October 23rd. And that will be wiped shortly after said event. And then…and then, the actual launch happens. And we’re back to stating that the Beta doesn’t matter.

Um, no, what was made clear was that everything would be kept through BWE2.
They never said anything about BWE3 as far as I’ve seen, one way or the other, so it’s not a huge logical leap for people to think they were intending to do a reset for the last one/further ones.
Not that they said that either, but it was left open after BWE2.

No Druid reveal? Really?

Yeah, wouldn’t work here for two reasons. First no class is really necessary for anything.
And second, most everyone already excludes rangers from group stuff anyway, they’d all just celebrate.

That’s one way of looking at it.
Some of us are looking through glasses tinted by 3 years of disappointment, letdown, and being ignored as a class.
So to some of us it simply looks like we don’t even warrant our own release vid, like we’re going to be a couple lines mentioned in passing.
It kind of hurts.

As a ranger I am not surprised by this, not after 3 years of the treatment we’ve gotten already.

They didn’t save it, we’re simply a footnote not worth mentioning on our own.

Oh good, I was afraid I’d actually get to see it. Would have been disconcerting of them to break the tradition of raking rangers over the coals.

We’re still a footnote, status quo maintained, move along.

You can consome 1 stack each/day. I agree it takes time until you convert all stacks after you gained the converters.

But how on earth are you generating each day more than 1 stack??? Even during 4h SW chest farm or 5h world bosses I only get close to 250/day.

I realize many people don’t, but I’ve walked away from a day of play with 2k-3k of each dragonite and bloodstone.

I don’t expect the eater to be able to eat all of it, they don’t want people to feel like they have to farm more to get their daily gunk pellets, so I understand its likely balanced around more average players.
But it would be really nice to see even a small increase, give it a 5-10 or maybe 6-10 range.

Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

What if… Keys were a PvP track reward?

Nice Idea! Please add them as a dungeon completion reward also (for those of us who do not play PvP).

Change the dungeons to have all paths active at once and it all has to be completed | Vanquished | Cleared for the end chest to contain a Black Lion Key XD

That way it takes as much or more time as a low level key farm, removes server strain from character creations, improves dungeons so that are not “run” but Vanquished (like gw1 Vanquishing reward), improves dungeons to be more desirable.

I have never understood why some people obsess over having to kill every mob, and want things taken away from/kept away from people who don’t want to play their way.

The mobs are simply an obstacle, there to give the place some flavor and slow you down. Like a simple puzzle. People who can think outside the box realize, hey, this guys here to slow me down but there’s nothing actually stopping me from just going past and completing the only thing technically listed on my objectives, namely kill the boss, and getting the only thing worth coming in here for, namely tokens.

[Suggestion] Lower price of Upgrade extractor

Congratulations, you have discovered the sink for runes (and thus the money potential of said runes)
You are intended to lose your runes when you change/upgrade armor.
The upgrade extractors were pretty much only introduced for use with super expensive infusions, like ones costing 1k gold or more, not for use on everyday runes, even strength runes.

I’d imagine higher resolution textures? Maybe more refined models/meshes.

I don’t have a bad case of sewagemouth, so I don’t run run into that very often, and most times I do its just a word combo that triggers it (like the word “it” preceded by anything ending in “t”)

If you are rolling for clovers then you need the t6s anyway …

Unless you already have all the T6 you need, which is why I always tell people go for the clovers early on, then at least the T6 is still useful towards the legendary.

Bring back a reward for leveling past 80

HoT will introduce Tryia-Masteries and you will be able to level them after 80. The XP bar will be replaced with a mastery-bar.

HoT is more than a month away, and masteries (to my understanding) will only be available to people who have purchased HoT.

Just as other MMOs have an extra 10 levels if you buy the expansion, this game has progression for level 80s who buy the expansion. Neither type of MMO allows the non expansion buyer to progress their character.

Yes, but I realized too late the thousands of exp I was earning doing world completion was going to complete and total waste, and I’m a customer who purchased HoT>
I picked it as something to work on while waiting for HoT, now I feel ripped off for doing it early, everything I do feeling like I’m wasting effort. And all it would take would be to get something, a spirit shard even, for my efforts.
