@ Bryzy
I will never play a “Holy Trinity” game again. I hated waiting for a healer in GW1 and then hear the group blame them for an even failure.
I do enjoy making my own fate and taking responsibility for how an event turns out. Even soloing impossible odds.
In Fantasy how many heroes needed a a dps, and healer to make them a hero and save the day?
Thanks goodness ANet did away with the “Holy Trinity”
^This
Everyone blames the healer, no matter what. Heck, people used healer heroes in GW1 and still blamed them when they died. Healers were always the scapegoats, whether they were really at fault or not, they just couldn’t win.
Anyways, I still think there is really good team play in this game, as I’ve benefited from traveling with a guardian on many occasions as a thief (that’s just one example).
Will you still be able to earn transmutation stones through stuff like map completion and convert them to charges, or will the gem store be the ONLY place to get these charges?
The charge system is a little confusing. Will it still be one charge per armor piece or will some pieces cost multiple charges?

[…]there is only so much old a player can take before he gets bored. New shinies are exiting.
Insert playable Tengu here, with new explorable zones to boot. :]
This is a great post for new to PvP players that has all the info you need:

Good luck!
(ps. If you jump in now any ranks you earn before the 15th will get you a free transmutation charge)
Thanks again for all the helpful tips, Karizee! As I said, I’m not much for PvP (co-op all the way), but I’ll give it a whirl now that I can grab that Voodoo set and use it ANYWHERE! And who knows, maybe I’ll end up liking PvP at the end of all this. Could be fun! ’:)
I second this. And third. And Fourth. And so on…
Good notes, Karizee. Thanks.
Also, I’m way not concerned about leaderboards and W/L records, as you probably know my end-goal by now. I didn’t know I’d need to memorize maps, so I’ll keep that in mind, though I’ll probably just memorize them as I go.
Can I gain rank in any PvP mode, or just leaderboard stuff? And should I start now or wait until after the April update?
Sorry for all the questions, I’m just really stoked and determined now that I got the official confirmation of gear unification, and I’m trying to plan the best route to take in getting what I want. ;P
Some people will never be happy in life…
I’d like to know as well, as I can only find the font used for the cover logo.
Thanks.
They have stated that there will be more unique skins from sPvP in the future. If you are interested in obtaining them you might want to jump into PvP to start learning this game mode, it’s really very fun!
You’re probably right, Karizee. I just dread the idea of dealing with pretentious jerks who’re gonna flame me outta my chair for being bunny rank with NOOB this and NOOB that (though I assure you, I’m no slouch. I’m just not competitive. I’m a co-op guy). Typically I laugh and ignore them, but if they have the power to kick me, I can’t ignore the boot.
All in all though, Karizee, if it comes down to it, I’m more than willing to dive into PvP and scrap with these guys to get that armor set. I hope it’s as fun as you say so, friend.
…and I also hope it won’t be TOO tedious to grind.
I do miss my Paragon in GW1. Well, mostly I miss the idea of throwing spears. It was a fun weapon mechanic; one you don’t see too often in games, to be honest.
I think there should be two types of spears introduced in this game:
1. Polearms or halberds for the heavy classes. It’d be a melee weapon, obviously. Anet could use some animations from warrior banners, now that I think about it.
2. Throwing spears, javelins, or harpoons for lighter classes. Magically-charged javelins for elementalists would be nice, kinda like how the magic bow works in Dragon’s Dogma (if you’re a magick archer). I’d love for my water-ele to throw hydro-javelins (I like water-based skills more than ice). Plus, it’d give elementalists another physical weapon choice besides just daggers.
So yeah, that’s a bit of what I’ve got. I’m still waiting on those spears, Anet! ;D
Got it last year after they announced the changes were coming waaaaay back in December.

If you waited until now to be concerned about it, the chance of getting it at this point starting from ground zero from the current system is pretty small. I imagine they will add it to the Reward Tracks in PvP in the future.
First of all, good job, Karizee. I should’ve done that.
Secondly, this is exactly why there needs to be an alternate method of obtaining this, as right now there are really high barriers-to-entry in PvP to newcomers (actually I’ve had this game since launch day, just never touched PvP). I’d be lucky to find a place anywhere at the bunny rank I am currently.
…groan… I just want that armor set, that’s all I ask. >_<
No! Not fair enough, Donari! That skin is too awesome! ;_;
I just don’t think there should be armor sets strictly obtainable through PvP, especially now that they’re unified, because not everyone is super-competitive. Dungeons I can understand, but I hope there’ll be a new way to nab that Voodoo (PvP Masquerade) set for PvE use.
Please don’t use terms that have NOTHING to do with video games to make your language sound more eloquent. It just makes you look stupid and sounds like your trying to build propaganda. Communism style game play…really? Are you sure you are using that term appropriately?
Also the game is fun even without the Holy Trinity. There are plenty of boss mechanics and encounters were you don’t need the Holy Trinity and it is just as difficult without it (Wurm, Teq, Aetherblade fractal, etc). I have no idea why people believe having a rigid class structure makes encounters fun. In WoW it was so freaking boring playing the healer. Don’t get me wrong, I love healing, but none of the encounters I did made the role “fun”, I’d just heal people who got low while everyone else did their own thing. It made dungeons feel boring after a while because no on really ever did anything new or exciting, I’d just use heals, dps would just use their rotations, tank would tank.
So no, the game is not boring without a Holy Trinity. I daresay it’s better without it because I can role any class I want, play how I want without worrying about a “comp” with friends and I like it that way.
Thank you! I laughed so hard at that first paragraph, as I get so tired of seeing words like that which are only used to get people’s attention.
Back to the subject, I know there aren’t TRUE healer classes here, but aren’t water elementalists and guardians kiiiiinda like that? It’s probably a stretch, but they’re good support roles at least, especially the guardian.
I used the champ train as something to do late at night when there’s barely any people on. Also, I haven’t met a single “elitist” while on the train, at least as far as I can tell. Yeah, there’s been the occasional jerk now and then, but I’ve actually made a number of friends after chatting with folks on the train.
So I don’t see the train as some plague on Tyria, but I’ll admit I’m hoping to see more people around the world now, as it’s kinda melancholy running around Kessex or Snowden (etc.) all by yourself.
The fact that males don’t have a basic ponytail also confuses me.
But I mostly want more dreadlocks hairstyles, especially after seeing the asura and charr get more of those (and really cool ones at that!).
I’m really curious about this too, especially after reading this line:
“As the Wardrobe replaces the gear locker, PvP crafting materials will be removed from the game, so be sure to craft anything you want before the April 15 update.”
So then, how will it be acquired after April 15th? Will there be a new method to obtaining armor sets like this, perhaps outside of PvP? I hope that’s the case, as I’m not a competitive player, and I REALLY want that Voodoo set for use in PvE.
Yeah, I wouldn’t want to eliminate whisper altogether, as I use it quite often (especially for rp purposes). A block/filter option would be nice.
Though when I got that whisper, I noticed there actually was a “block” when I right-clicked their name. The problem, however, was that even though the message I get is the same, it’s a different name everytime, and it’s always a garble of letters, akin to a bot (probably is).
While I love most of the new hairstyles for the other races, I’ll admit I’m getting tired of all the boy-band, pretty-boy human male hairstyles. Not only that, but they’re not even that different from the existing hairstyles (there’s now probably at least six variants of a semi-short, parted hairstyle). With all the creativity being put into the other race’s hairstyles, I’d sure like for some of that creativity to show up on human males.
Personally, I really want to see this on a human male:
This hasn’t really been a problem until recently I’ve noticed. Now it seems like I can’t log on without at getting at least one or two whispers from “akjldfoie” or “joaewrjaeljk” or whatever botted name they’re using. My gf even got a private message in her mail from these guys.
Like I said, they were gone for a while, but it looks like they’re rearing their ugly heads again. Turmon’s got the right idea though, and I report those messages every single time.
I’m eager to hear news about both the “removing restrictions” and “account bound” topics.
It’s probably a stretch, but I hope this will make more armor sets not account bound so they can be put up on the trading post. (and by that I mean I WANT THAT PVP MASQUERADE ARMOR FOR PVE) Obviously not everything should be like that, like dungeon armor (it would probably take away incentive from running dungeons for some people), but since PvP and PvE armor are going to be integrated, perhaps there should also be new ways to obtain those armor sets as well.

[…]Do you see this improving or destroying what’s left of the SPvP minority, and do you see this improving PvE at all?
Well, I’ve always wanted the PvP masquerade (tribal) armor, but I’m way not a PvP guy; it’s just not my thing. If I can earn this armor set for use in PvE, however, then you can bet I’ll be willing to touch PvP for the first time and work my way to that goal.
In that sense, this update would actually bring me into PvP, and that’s a tough sell! So yeah, I would definitely see this as an improvement.
I hope we hear news of this really soon, it’s been a couple of months now, and I’m so eager to get my hands on that armor set!
Edit: I also read something like PvP armor will still have value after the update makes them PvE compatible. If that means these sets will be available on the TP, that would be even better!
(edited by Seabreeze.8437)
Is it possible to get this armor skin in pve? And where
(PvP version called “PvP Masquerade armor”)Maybe in the 18th of march
Did you read this somewhere or are you just guessing?
Is it difficult to get to that rank? Sorry for the interrogation, I’m just really not into PvP, which is why I hope there’ll be another way to get this armor set. I’ll do what I have to, though.
Hope we hear news of this soon!
Now I’m hyped! I’ll be eagerly awaiting further updates on this!
Question for those who’ve gotten this armor set already: Is it really difficult to obtain this set? Like, is there a lot of PvP grinding?
Oh man! Thanks for that link, Inculpatus Cedo!
If this is true, and we’ll finally be able to use the masquerade armor in PvE, I will be the happiest man alive! PLEASE make this happen, Anet!
I’ll bet the process of acquiring the armor won’t change, though, which’ll mean I’ll have to go PvP, which isn’t my thing at all, but I wouldn’t even care! I’ll get my butt kicked for that armor if it means I can use it in PvE!
Thanks again, Inculpatus, that was such good news to read!
Edit: I hope there’d be a way to craft/obtain this outside of PvP, though.

Yeah, I think this is a really cool idea! And the concept of a historian NPC is a great way to integrate it into the Guild Wars world without creating a time paradox. I’ve played Guild Wars since the first game, and I really love the story. Unfortunately, I’ve missed out on some of the Living Story during my time in GW2, and I’m bummed that I there’s no way to catch up other than to read summaries about them on wikis or fansites. This would be a nice treat to give to players who are really interested in the deep and engaging lore of GW2.
I mean, I understand the point of LIVING Story is a “do-it-while-it’s-there” kind of thing, but you know, stuff happens and a lot of people don’t always get to experience it when it’s there. Not to mention any newcomers to the game will be completely lost unless they do a TON of reading and wiki-hopping beforehand.
Long story short, I think this is a terrific suggestion. I’d love to see something like this implemented into the game at some point.
Hey, I noticed the gem purchasing/redeem code options are functional. Is everything good to go? I don’t want to punch in my code yet until I know we’re all good now. Thanks!
I want another character slot. So I logged on this morning, ready to buy gems when I noticed that the gem purchase option was disabled. I thought, “that’s weird, but hey, the redeem code option is still functional. I’ll just go buy a card.”
So I hopped in the car and drove a short way to the mall where I bought a gem card. I wandered for a bit with my bro and our girlfriends until we all wanted to go back home to feed our Guild Wars addiction.
We all went home, with gem cards in hand. Scratched off the little code. Logged on to redeem our gems.
…Redeem code is disabled. Well alright then!
I’m not upset, mind you. We actually all had a good laugh. Hope this gets fixed soon though. My charr necromancer is itching to get out of my head.
I’m going to agree with Smooth Penguin on this one, particularly because Guild Wars 2 requires NO monthly subscription. I mean, if a game like WoW (haven’t played), which DOES have a subscription, does stuff like this, I’d probably be more than a little annoyed. Paying like $15 a month or whatever it is PLUS these extras? But GW2 isn’t like that, so I don’t mind buying some gems every other month or so to support them. I haven’t bought any of these gathering tools though, so it may not be my place to say anything.
