As a player who enjoys role-playing, it helps that I’m way into the lore of this game. I’m almost done with the first novel, Sea of Sorrows, and will soon read Edge of Destiny, then Ghosts of Ascalon.
That, and having my girlfriend, my bro, and other close friends (all of which also enjoy RPing) to play with easily makes this my favorite game, hands down.
Is it perfect? No, but it’s still a blast to play. And I have confidence that Anet has big plans for the future of the game. C’mon, Tengu and the Domininon of Winds!
So in short, yes. GW2 is best MMO!
How long does it take to farm a key, once you’ve gotten practiced with it?
Roughly 20 minutes. It helps if you have friends to farm with you, so it’s not so dreary, but hey, easy Black Lion keys!
If you’ve played GW1, then you’d know it was a blessing, and there’d be no need for this thread at all.
I missed the one last year due to work, I wouldn’t mind old content at all xD.
Same, here. I totally missed last year’s festival, so this is gonna be all new for me, and I’m excited to log on tomorrow!
Yep.
Still waiting, just in case anyone was at all curious.
Yeah, it’s a stretch, I know. But I remember reading in the overview of the Festival of the Four Winds that a lot of things fans loved about stuff in the past would be returning. It’s probably mostly Living Story related, but wouldn’t it be a good time to finally bring back the Tribal Armor set (and the other PvP sets while we’re at it)?
I’m also curious as to what else is coming back, too. If the lightning dream catcher back item comes back, I’d be all over that, since I missed the last Festival.
But yeah, still waitin’ for that Tribal set. :\
So… Devs you out there?
Asking specifically for the devs to chime in won’t get you a response. I’d wager it actually has the complete opposite effect. I think they even mention that in the forum rules and guidelines section.
They read these forums, I’m sure (don’t ask me to prove it), and they’ll hop in when they want, I guess…
Anyways, still wondering what you guys want from a FP mode. Would you still want to see your limbs when you fight, or just eliminate your character model overall?
STILL WAITING.
…….sigh
I like some things about GW2, but I liked GW1 much more.
On the flipside, though, GW1 felt lonely as heck sometimes, what with the PvE areas being instanced. If you don’t party up with people that have the exact same objectives as you, you’re pretty much stuck by yourself, save for whatever AI heroes you take along, and they’re not very good at striking up a conversation.
GW2 feels like an MMO to me. GW1 only felt like an MMO in towns (excluding PvP). Outside of towns, it was basically a single player game, to me at least. That is, when I wasn’t playing with my bro.
GW2 will NEVER be like GW1. Let’s get over it already.
And that is why it fails.
Says you. Says a handful of people, actually. But a lot of us (myself included) have an absolute blast with the game. I’ve been playing since GW1, and I personally like this game better. Really.
Clunky and archaic? No thanks.
That’s kinda how I feel about GW1. Kinda clunky, but still fun. Trinity system feels dated, too, honestly. GW2 is much more fluid and fun in my opinion. I still have GW1 installed though, so if I feel like reliving those days, I’ll just boot that up. No need to turn GW2 into GW1.5.
GW2 is amazing and I love it, though that may be considered blasphemy on these forums.
Playable Tengu. And a new profession. Oh, and new weapon types as well. How about new PvE explorable zones?
Hmm, these sound expansion-worthy rather than LS season 2. Shoot.
Okay then, give us a full-fledged expansion! Season 2 can come after that!
You get players used to updates every two weeks and then not only have there been no updates but very little communication from AN in the last 24 days. Other than to say they are busy, and China Launch. While I don’t find it to be the end of the world, it is a little too quite for my like, and am also bored.
On top of this we probably aren’t going to see another patch until sometime in June. So now we are talking about more than a month with nothing. When players are used to content every two weeks and they suddenly get silence some players are going to feel left out and bored.
Wanna know the nice thing about a subscription-free game? You can take a break. Seriously, some of you guys are probably just burnt out. I would know, I took something like a 6-month break from the game, and when I came back, I got hooked again.
So just go do something else for a while. With no Living Story going on, you don’t have to worry about missing anything (if you care about LS). By the time you come back, there’ll likely be more things to do. Either that, or you’ll simply enjoy coming back after not playing for so long. That’s how it was for me, anyways (that, and getting my GF hooked on the game helped a lot, too).
I do, however, fully agree that the lack of communication isn’t helping things here. Heck, I’m still waiting for the Tribal Armor set to become obtainable again! Where the flock is it already?!
Sounds convenient. I’m down.
Personally, though, I think adding a new race would be a good opportunity to introduce a new profession along with it. I mean, the Tengu have been practically begging to become playable, and I for one welcome those lovable bird-brains!
The lovable bird brains who arrow-carted thousands of desperate refugees (and a few player characters) during the Escape From LA? :o
Oh I love them all right. Preferably in my 2 piece variety meal.
The charr blew up Ascalon… and we seem to be okay with them now, so what’s the difference??
As a search on the term Personality did not find anything posted this one.
I find the search function on this forum doesn’t find ANYTHING! Seriously, type in “mounts” and it’ll come back with “no results found.” It’s maddening.
Lack of updates for a whole 24 days so far and you’re out of here?
Nope, I’m not but my son’s guild is, what does it matter, RMB will replace the dollars they lost.
What do you mean with “RMB will replace the dollars they lost.”?
I googled it. RMB is short for renminbi, the official currency of the People’s Republic of China. He’s probably referring to the profits they’ll get from the China release, I guess.
…Hold up, it’s also stands for the Regional Management Board in the UK. So I don’t know, but this guy making an “I quit” thread will show Anet for not updating their game for a whole heart-stopping 24 days!

The gorgon armor set in Soul Calibur V has boobs EVERYWHERE. This is not that bad.
I think GW1 and GW2 are both great games, and honestly, I think GW2 is far more fun. I’ll probably boot up the first one sometime for nostalgia’s sake, but to me, this is my absolute favorite game, hands down, especially when you play with your RL friends and family.
Tru Reptile has a good idea with swap-able weapon skills. That’d offer more builds with the same profession/weapon.
Personally, I’m rather attached to my characters, such that I like to see their models, so not having FP doesn’t bother me at all.
If you don’t like first person, stay in third person. Problem solved.
I would stay in first person… and I didn’t say it was a problem. I was just stating my personal preference, that’s all. It’s issues 1 and 2 that I mentioned earlier that I’m wondering about. I’m not against FP for you guys, I’m just curious as to how you think they would implement it.
Don’t complain too much. People complained about the sylvari in Lion’s Arch saying “More violets, less violence” over and over so they nuked all the npc’s in lions arch.
Dude, they nuked all of Lion’s Arch.
So much for “more violets.”
Lance, Gunlance, Katana… I really wanna have those.
As much as I love the gunlance, I think that particular weapon is too indicative of the Monster Hunter series (although my Engineer would totally rock a gunlance if he could, as he does in MH3U and will do in MH4). Dunno if gunlances exist in any other game. However, lances and katanas would be cool, though the latter should be introduced alongside the Tengu if/when they become playable.
I do think that Gunlances are that sort of weapons Charrs would want to create.
So I do think it would definitely fit. But you’re right with your observation, I only have seen them in the MH series too. But kitten , I want them sooo badly.
Gunlances would be cool, but I wonder if Capcom would complain if Anet used them. Can you copyright a weapon type? I mean, maybe they could make them a bit different, like having the gunlance be a two-handed weapon with a slightly different playstyle. Can you imagine the awesome weapon slot skills a gunlance in GW2 would have?
I know I’m dreaming, but I won’t deny that a gunlance would look bada** in the hands of a charr.
If you guys are wondering about technical problems, I’ve got a couple of questions for you.
1. What kind of FP camera would you want? If you want to still be able to see your limbs while you’re fighting and stuff, then I can see there being problems implementing that into the game, what with how dynamic the fighting styles are. Example: think asura ranger sword autoattack. They pretty much breakdance all over the place, which would make the player dizzy as heck if the camera followed their eyesight.
2. If you want to just fix the camera looking forward with no player model at all and no movement aside from looking around and no battle effects from the player, I guess that work, but man that’d be boring as heck. And what if you get mobbed with a million skills at once? Your computer would probably explode from all the special effects clogging your vision, least of all making you completely blind until the smoke clears, and by then you’d likely be dead.
So I can see why there’s no first person mode. It’s not like Skyrim where the combat is just… swing sword….. swing again… swing…. open hand and throw fireball…. yell at enemy. GW2’s combat is waaay more stylish and animated.
That said, I’m just not sure it could be implemented properly, at least not in a way that would make it fun. Maybe you could FP mode only when you’re out of combat I guess…
Personally, I’m rather attached to my characters, such that I like to see their models, so not having FP doesn’t bother me at all.

You know what you’ve got to do Anet. This Fractal makes me want to tear my kitten off at 40+.
That poor kitten.
Personally, though, I think adding a new race would be a good opportunity to introduce a new profession along with it. I mean, the Tengu have been practically begging to become playable, and I for one welcome those lovable bird-brains!
I think engineers are fantastic! They work really well with the lore of GW2, and fit it perfectly in Tyria.
And Tengu is a must as far as introducing a new race is concerned.
Flails, yeah! Two-handed axes would be cool too. Hey, I’ll throw my idea out there again about magically charged throwing spears for elementalists.
Let’s expand our armory!
Don’t get me wrong, a lot of lines can be grating, but I love the NPC dialog, especially when it’s so bad it’s funny. I wouldn’t ever want it removed.
Speed boost mounts won’t work. Guardians, for instance, have no perma speed buff other than speed/traveler runes. To give them a perma speed mount would then shift game play ‘balance.’ I really don’t want Anet to waste time rebalancing the game for mounts with speed.
Also, I don’t want mounts in game.
How would that shift any balance when mounts are non-combat mounts?
Since I would assume that it will be PvE content only, it will make all guardian weapon set viable so that they don’t have to use only a specific weapon set to travel around.
I am always stuck on the GS/Staff because it is the only way to get around fast.
That’s how. According to devs (though i can’t locate those posts at the moment. I think they were somewhere on the WvW subforum), the fact that some weapons offer better mobility than others was an important point in balancing them. The same for things like traveller runes, or the mobility +25% signets of some classes. Or the fact that some classes posess far better mobility than others (that one is big, since it affects whole class balance). All those things would have to be completely rebalanced. And you know how long it takes – we could reasonably expect the process to last years.
I don’t care about WvW.
Talk about PvE instead.
Simple, keep all the speed boost mounts out of WvW, or PvP, only for PvE.
I can support this.
I can see both sides of this issue, but I like this idea. Just leave mounts exclusive to PvE. Though I’m not sure where they’d go in combat. Like, would players instantly stow them like a ranger’s pet the second they enter combat? I suppose that could work.
Either way, I think mounts would offer a nice alternative to travel, especially when players wouldn’t mind taking the “scenic route.” It’d also be a boon to RPers as well, as I’m sure traveling long distances on mounts would be more appealing than simply blipping from one waypoint to the next.
BEAR APPROVES OF YOU! I CAN FEEL HIS LITTLE TAIL WAGGING IN MY HEART!
I’m probably comparing apples to oranges here, but if Skyrim modders could make mods just on immersion things like sitting/eating/drinking/etc., then how exactly is it “too large a software challenge for their resources”? If one modder can do what apparently a whole team lacks the resources to, then what’s wrong with this picture?
Again, probably not a good comparison, and I’m not trying to be aggressive or anything, so if anyone wants to correct me, feel free to, ‘cause I’m kinda not buying the “too hard” reason.
No.
GW1 is a great game that stands just fine on it’s own. It doesn’t need to be remade. That said, I’d rather Anet make past GW1 events into fractals. That way, players who are unfamiliar with the events of GW1 can experience some of what happened through those fractals.
As simple as this is, I would LOVE this to be added to the game. It’d really improve the RP aspect of this mmoRPG. I have Skyrim mods that do this, and it really does add to the immersion of the game. Again, it’s simple, but I think this would be cool to have.
Especially while I’m figuring out what to do next, I could just chill in some inn while I talk with my guildies about our next adventure!
It’d be a nice little bonus to an expansion pack or something, I’d think.
You know there is no reason to be rude to the people posting these threads. If they are that horrible to you why do you read them and comment in them.
I think there are many ways that Anet can re-imagine the Ritualist class. Even with spirits. I don’t believe like most that it could ever come back like it was, but just like the mesmers, the engineers, and the guardians; classes can be reshaped.
This guy’s got the right of it. Classes can be modified to fit the shape of GW2. That said, a revamped Ritualist would be really cool. I loved their armor sets. I wish we’d get more of that kinda tribal fusion style in GW2.
P.S. – Google image search “tribal fusion” if you want to see what I mean.
How do you figure it’s “very likely” that all weapons will be available to all professions? I mean, it’d be dandy and all, but I just don’t see that happening. If anything, I can see them adding new weapons, like elementally charged throwing javelins for elementalists (I’ve been clinging to that idea of mine), or maybe SOME weapons will be made available to other professions (i.e. pistols and rifles for rangers, which would be awesome, btw), but not all of them. That’s what makes the professions more unique, though some would argue that it’s limiting.
Anyways, I can see both sides of this, but I think I’d rather see new weapons get added. Throwing spears, please.
Honestly, if it shows up in the gem store, I’ll buy it. Though admittedly, I hope it gets put in somewhere else like a reward track (karma vendor would be also nice). Basically, wherever it ends up, I’ll go get it. Just gotta wait…
Wherever the Tribal Armor set goes, I’ll go. Simple as that. Just waiting to see it come back.
This is my obligatory post of support for this armor set.
Well, I like the outfit as a whole, just so long as it’s dye-able.
And that sucks about the clones-not-wearing-the-costume bug. That should really be addressed soon, especially because of how easy it makes it to spot the real mesmer.
It’s nice seeing that I’m not the only one who wants a good jester costume. Let’s hear it for all the fools out there!
Hey, whatever. I’m patient, and I’ve got a bunch of other characters to play, so I can wait. As long as it comes back eventually, I’ll be happy to go and get it.
Now that I think about it, this would’ve been an awesome April FOOLS day costume!
The best short explanation I can give.
Non-RP people: you play the character.
RP people: you are the character.
Personally, I find RP very enthralling. It puts you in a deeper level with the game and your characters, and for me, it makes it that much more fun.
On my laptop, I’ve got a wireless Logitech mouse that serves me well enough. For my desktop rig, I’ve got the RAT 3 gaming mouse, and that feels pretty darn good to play. It’s wired, but it’s for a desktop, so who cares?
You can’t. We’re still waiting for this to change.
compare GW2 to other MMOs
- Why do people keep saying this? Tobacco is a mild drug if you compare it to heroin, but still wrecks your health and doesn’t improve your life in any way. What does it prove to compare one dull thing to another dull thing? MMO is the worst genre of gaming there is, no matter if you’re casual or hardcore player, no matter if you prefer to experience story or play against other players, no matter if you prefer using reflexes or thinking to succeed. There’s always a genre that serves your needs better.
Oh for the love of…
If you think all MMO’s are dull, then what in the heck are you doing posting in an MMO forum? Why do you even have an account for that matter? For crying out loud, go find something else to do!
I would absolutely love this for my mesmer, since he is a jester! Love that hat/mask combo! Given that costumes are primarily gem store skins, I’d like to see this on the gem store someday. I mean, the model’s already there, so let’s make it official!
After all, “a jester unemployed is nobody’s fool.”
Having permanently departed World of Warcraft recently and come back to GW2, I once again find that this really is a ruddy nice game. I’ll have to send Blizzard a thank-you note for finally managing to drive me off with some of their (I think) absurd plans for their next expansion – I forgot how much I loved just -playing- GW2.
Honestly, I’d probably give WoW a try if it wasn’t for the subscription (I really like Taurens, and would love to play them). That, and I’m sure the player base would eat me alive. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the WoW community in general.
Speaking of which, that’s another thing I love about GW2. Most of the players you meet are actually quite friendly, making the MMO experience all the better!
What the? Dude, the dailies are easy as cake to do now. Most of the time, I complete them all without even paying attention to them, and when I do pay attention, they’re still really easy.
I know you don’t like hearing “I don’t see the problem,” but I’m sorry, I really don’t see the problem. There’s less selection, I know, but it’s way more broad (i.e. instead of ‘Krytan event completer,’ it’s just ‘event completer’)
Even if you don’t like the dailies anymore, It’s almost impossible NOT to do them.
-Daily Kills: well you can’t avoid that, now.
-Daily Gatherer: I gather stuff all the time, so not a prob, either.
-Daily Events: events are all over the place, just pick a few to do.
-Event Mentor: I’m usually a higher level than most of the events I do, anyways.
-Daily Champ Slayer: champ train, done. Heck, this’ll do the event one, too.
-Recycler: I salvage stuff all the time, another easy one.
-Condition Applier: my condition necro loves this one.
-Condition Remover: my condition necro loves this one, too.
-Daily Reviver: there’s enough downed NPC’s to get this one done.
-Laurel Vendor: talk to him. SERIOUSLY, THAT’S IT! Just talk to him, you’re done.
-Leveler: just stick to one character for a bit.
-Skill Point Accumulator: see “Leveler.”
-Personal Story Completer: I’ve got a lot of characters, all of which are working on PS.
I know there’s others I’ve failed to mention, but seriously, you can get most of these done without even trying. I just play like I normally do and get my dailies done every single time, no sweat. Again, I’m sorry, but other than “less options,” I don’t really have any problems with the new dailies.
