No, of course not. This game won’t be around long enough but the point is the same. Getting points (a few each day) is not unreasonable.

It isn’t unreasonable, no. But in terms of competitiveness, it can be a bit of an annoyance. I typically take an hour to finish all the dailies I want to do (excludes WvW, PvP, and Story Dungeon/Daily Fractal). For people who can relax and eventually reach a cap, that’s an hour extra they can spend doing something else (perhaps more enjoyable in game).

Inspired by the Patch to make a Legendary?

The patch, and changes to the way skins and legendary skins work definitely inspire me to go for more. Currently I only have Incinerator, Meteorlogicus, and Sunrise. I had to spend a good deal of time wondering which character to give it to, and whether or not I would play that character enough to warrant getting it. Now that that concern is gone, onto the next!

You’re still going to get laurels, [chance at BL item], mystic coins, the MF consumable, and karma. Do you really care that much about AP?

Since it is what is used to unlock reward chests, yes. If it was a trivial number… not so much. But its not, you need it to continue unlocking chest reward tiers.

The dailies and monthly cap together will get a person up to 15,000. I’m currently sitting at ~14,000ish with somewhere around ~7,000 being permanent ones. Close to ~6,600 being dailies, and some other odd amount of monthlies. I don’t have any HoM, barely any PvP or WvW achievements, and I also skipped WvW Season 1. There is no doubt ANet will keep adding achievements, and further achievement rewards. It’s not like the game as it is now will be the only AP in the entire game.

So because I can be rewarded for other things….

I shouldn’t be disappointed I am no longer rewarded for completing daily goals for what I enjoy playing in the first place? The same goals everyone that hasn’t reached the cap will be rewarded for doing.

I don’t understand your point.

You can be disappointed, you’re entitled to that feeling.

You said one of the biggest things keeping you playing was being rewarded for playing daily. You still will be. Just not in AP once you reach the cap. The way the system is now, those who have the highest AP and rewards are those likely to have been playing longer, cause they have the daily point advantage.

Once I hit the cap, I’ll still do the bare minimum for the reward, and consider myself having more free time to do other things in the game that isn’t simply to keep up in AP.

But to clarify some questions in your first post.

Now is this just for PvP achievements or all achievements?

I don’t even consider myself a huge APer, I haven’t even broke 20k points. I’m sure many people have over that 10k limits? do they lose AP?

I suspect people like myself are simply going to stop playing because they game for some reason abruptly stops rewarding people for continuing to play on a regular basis…. What possible reason could there be for that?

This is for the entire achievement system. PvP and PvE are both included. I’m sure if anyone has more than 10,000 already, they will be lowered down to the limit. Those who had absurd amounts from an uncapped Agent of Entropy, months back, lost points when a cap was instated. I’m not entirely certain if anyone has actually reached the cap yet. But if they do, they’ll likely be lowered. What that means for the chest… they’ll probably just keep the reward they had to get next. Say if they had 15,000 pre patch, then 14,700 post patch. They had already gotten the chest 15,000 chest, so their next would be 15,500.

This change equalizes the imbalance in daily / monthly AP values between players.

Those have a max cap as well.

“There will be a limit of 10,000 daily and 5,000 monthly achievement points”

This confuses me greatly. I have a very few times gotten 10 points for daily, usually about 7 or 8. 10,000?

It means that the max amount of achievement points you can get for doing dailies will be 10,000. Say you do the minimum 5 a day. It would take you 2,000 days to reach the cap. At which point you would no longer receive any AP from doing dailies.

I disagree. I was never an achievement hoarder. Actually, I only cared for points to unlock skins, and now Hellfire/Radiant boots are going to be even more distant than they already were.
Thank you for this change… not.

So… they’re actually an achievement to get now? gasp

Nasty sarcasm aside, I am glad for this change. As much as I enjoy toting how much AP I have in competition to others, this will help keep the AP system balanced, not a matter of who constantly logs in.

The skin is the only thing that applies. You won’t get the ability to change stats on those weapons. You won’t get the particle effects, the footsteps, the weapon skill effects, and so on. Just the skin. Only you’re originally crafted weapons will be truly “legendary” and rightfully so.

Are you sure? the effects are part of the skin…

No, the effects are party of the weapon being Legendary. Before they made Legendary weapons on par with Ascended stats and the ability to change them, people used to make a legendary and transmute the skin to a stat set they preferred. In doing so, however, they lost all the visual effects associated with the weapon being “legendary” since it was no longer the original weapon.

I might be wrong here, but I think that was actually a bug they wound up fixing.

But my guess is that they’ll just become useless (in the meaning of non functional) items that you can choose to keep. For instance, I still have these guys http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain's_Council_Commendation

Unless of course the update just makes repairs free, and stuff still breaks.

Feature Pack - What's your bottom line?

What I’ll do when I log in Apr 15th I’ll probably just rearrange a few armor setups/skins for some characters, but that’s about it. I don’t expect this patch to really change much for me outside of making some things a bit more convenient.

That’s pretty much what most of it is designed to do. Make things more convenient. Quality of Life changes.

For Me:
Trait Changes – I typically play whatever build I want, a lot of my characters haven’t changed builds since they hit 80. Some of these might be good to use, and if I like them, I’ll use them. I don’t foresee that happening though.

Rune/Sigil Changes – I’ll have to adjust some sigils and runes on my characters, especially ones I overlooked before due to their limited functionality.

Critical Damage Changes – -

Wardrobe System – My characters pretty much have their set look already. I don’t plan on changing them unless I find something else I like more. But I will start collecting skins to satisfy the collector in me. Great thing overall.

Dye Changes – Yay.

Social Improvements – Not so much useful for my guildies and I, as we’re just a bunch of friends hanging out. But a much asked for and appreciated change regardless.

Account Bound – I already don’t transfer my infinite harvest tools between my characters. I’m not likely going to transfer my (future) ascended weapons or armor around. I simply change characters way too much.

Repair Cost – It’ll save me time from unequipping in certain parts of the game (CoE lasers, CoF P3 bombs). Perhaps less annoyance from newbies in PUGs. Overall it makes me more leeroy-y, but this also might make newbie learning experiences stick less.

I would bet the majority of the people that are against compensation are the ones scared they will lose the ability to skin legendaries. or are the ones exiceted to make quip, bolt or incinerator and then be able to have two skins. or only have 1 of quip bolt or incinerator.

Majority of people with two skins of one I am sure would have made a diff legendary if this was already in place.

There is nothing wrong for us to be compensated. If I knew about this I would have made bolt instead of second incinerator and I am sure the majority of the people complaining against compensation would feel the same if it happened to them.

I like the changes cause I have 1 quip and cant wait to spam 2 quips and annoy everyone. and was going to make 2 quips but not now.

I do have 2 incinerators and am upset cause i could have had a bolt instead of one. so I dont see how asking to be compensated is that big of a deal. they could do a lot of diff things like unbind so we can sell. allow us to pick a diff legendary. give us our mats back. give us the 3 major gifts and the precursor and mats back for the precursor gift.

non of that is going to hurt the person crying just deal with it. cause I would be the majority crying just deal with it would be wanting compensated if they were in the other situation.

I am against compensation for various reasons:

-There is no clear line drawn to determine who will get compensated. There is no good way to determine this.
-People who made multiple of one item made a conscious decision during that specific time and set of principles and features in the game to spend time to get multiple of one item. Those people additionally then sported whatever fancy look during a period where it was more rare for others to have the same look.
—> These people got what they wanted, they got two of one item. Compensation in this case is more rewarding people, putting dual or more owners into the favorable group. They got what they decided to get, had the “unique time” of specialty, then get another item (or whatever).
-What’s to stop people from making a cheaper multiples of an item, and claiming that they want a different one? If ANet accepts tickets for this type of compensation, this creates more trouble for them.

Just because ANet changes something in the game, does not mean you are entitled to compensation of any kind. If they decide to, that’s on them, and they’re being generous.

Well, with the latest news for account bound legendaries, not only is having a 2nd Twilight not benefiting me as a skin, but the idea of it still being valuable because of stat changes is also being thrown out. People asking for some way to address this problem are not trying to game the system. It’s a legitimate concern. Try to keep it constructive.

If I recall, you could already move a legendary around on your account through transmutation tricks. It was just more complex than what they’re going to be offering.

Sera.6539

The problem I see, is that in GW2, (and this is especially true of GW1) end game revolves around acquiring skins and making your character stand out and look unique. If we make it so that skins are account bound, isn’t that like shooting the entire point of end game in the foot?

I mean if I acquire a skin from some dungeon on one character and it is permanently unlocked, why would I ever run that dungeon again on any of my alts to get that skin again?

Well, I don’t know about you, but I prefer my characters to have different looks if I find a look that suits them.

Why would someone ever run the dungeon again?
-Perhaps you enjoy the dungeon.
-Perhaps you want the dungeon reward.
-Perhaps you don’t want to pay transmutation charges.
-Perhaps you want the skin and the stats in one go, instead of separate.

It could potentially mean less grind for tokens, making people less likely to do certain content. All this does is let people achieve their goal faster and more conveniently.

To be honest, now they’re making legendaries account bound I don’t get why the skins should be in the wardrobe. It’ll only make everyone have legenadaries everywhere and when I see a legenadary I want to know it is in fact a legendary not a lvl 12 weapon transmuted to look like one. People are gonna be able to swap em around anyway now.

Why does it matter if legendary skins are everywhere? If the reason for getting a legendary was the look of it, you should be focused on that. How your character looks with it, how well it works with your character. How fashionable it is all together for you. There should be no concern over other players having that look as well.

Legendary weapons have been becoming more and more prevalent. Almost every PUG dungeon run I do, someone has a legendary. They really aren’t special anymore, and no one really should have felt like a special snowflake for having them.

Some random thoughts overall:

We may see an increase in people dual wielding (skins) of a single legendary. Are some automatically assuming that another person doing this, didn’t earn it? Would seeing someone else doing this, offend you?

What is the value of the time spent before wardrobe change, in gold? The time that a player spent showing that they have two of one legendary, while others didn’t. ANet can’t guarantee that everyone will benefit greatly in future patches. It isn’t fair, no. But life (life includes this game) isn’t fair.

Are people seriously going to copypasta their legendary skin across all their characters? I have Sunrise on my Guardian currently, and may put it on my light colored Warrior. I’m not even considering throwing it on my second Warrior, Ranger, or Mesmer. Or Infinite Light on my Mesmer. I could replace Bonetti’s Rapier on my Guardian, but I’m not going to.

Feature Patch = Gem Store 2.0?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sera.6539

Sera.6539

Why does it matter if the gem store will have convenience items? They are not needed, they are not necessary for play. The gem store may be pay to shortcut, but only for needless things (those boosters, clothes, and minis aren’t necessary to the core functionality of the game). They don’t even have much of an advantage difference.

I urge people to play actual P2W MMORPGs out there (any in which there is an in game currency->cash shop currency, but still heavily advantaged towards cash), and then compare it to GW2’s gem store. I’m talking about the games with OP armor in the stores, insane stat boosts, etc. There is a vast difference between what can be found in those games versus what can be found in the gem store.

I highly doubt that ANet will go down the path of throwing outrageously cash advantaged items into the gem store. They’re actually super tame in comparison to the beasts out there.

Also, unidentified dyes will still be available through laurels, it wouldn’t make sense to remove that.

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sera.6539

I believe that as you enter the mists on patch day, your equipped items will be added to the main wardrobe. So then, if you go into your locker, you can right click on skins and add them to your wardrobe. (This is how I understand it). They are trying to combine the two game modes more, which is why this is happening.

Can’t help but feel a bit wary, since I have a couple dungeon skins in my pvp locker. Normally you’d have to play through the dunegon paths about 8 times to collect both, but I attained them through those pvp level chests by pure luck. It would feel so odd to wear those in pve since I got the dungeon skins for essentially free, with no hard work involved.

No need to feel weird about it. People buy dungeon paths all the time. For instance, I rarely PvP and I have Arah armors in my PvP locker o.O. But then, people can get Arah armor by paying a guy 5g per path. shrug

Wear what you want, when you want. It’s so exciting. Here’s a for instance: PvP’ers who got infinite light much cheaper than PvE’ers (well, cheaper to some, I guess) will now have full access to that skin. It’s a bit weird. But it’s plain awesome.

I was actually a bit upset about that (dem charged lodes), but then I shrugged it off. It’s like how people get precursors by random luck. Someone has better luck than you, oh well. So long as they don’t brag about getting cool skins for cheaper of course. Cause then that’s just being a kitten.

Wardrobe: another money/gold sink

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s an issue because it is inconvenient. Pretty much every other MMO has a system in place that allows players to store cosmetic looks/armor stats on tabs and switch between them instantly.

I agree we’re jumping the gun here, as it hasn’t been implemented yet – but that fact that this wasn’t mentioned in the preview is troubling.

Just randomly chiming in. In the MMOs I’ve played (20 some odd ones of various ages and quality), I have never experienced a system that allowed me to swap armor sets instantly.

I’m sure the feature will be implemented eventually (hopefully). The trait changes and wardrobe changes are a good step forward in the right direction towards that.

Here are the people who are kittened off by the change so far:
-dual legendary holders, + other expensive exotics
-people who like to mix-match town clothes
-people who bought multiple dyes
-people who absolutely hate anything involving the gem store

The first three I can get behind, the latter I have no sympathy for because they think GW2 should be a charity.

As with all changes, there will be people who will be negatively affected. And they are more than likely to be vocal about their displeasure.

Either way, these changes are for the good of the game – it’s players and creators.

I wouldn’t hate the gem store so much if the game didn’t revolve around the stupid thing. “Oh, you want to change your appearance because Guild Wars 2’s end-game involves finding your perfect look, which requires you to change clothes repeatedly? Here, have these transmutation stones for $5. Oh, wanna change your look again? 5 more dollars. Oh, again? 5 dollars….”

All of the new armor is released through the gem store. (Excluding back pieces and weapons, which don’t count).

All of the good stuff is released through the gem store. Permanent pick-axes, axes, and other permanent stuff.

Guild Wars 2 isn’t a charity, but I don’t agree with how Anet is running their gem-store either. Guild Wars 1 was doing perfectly fine with just a few costumes, and you didn’t have to spend 5 dollars every time you wanted to change clothes.

I personally doubt that gems will be the only way to obtain transmutation charges. But that’s the rare optimist in me. I believe they said that clicking a Transmutation Stone (3) will give you 1 charge. So it’s possible the items themselves will not be removed just yet, and you can still get charges through map completions.

The biggest issue I see with compensating anyone for dual (or more) anything is how do they determine where to draw the line? How do they determine the compensation?

The duplicate legendary you have now, may not have cost what it did currently. If they give players gold or let them sell it, they could potentially make a profit, because the original cost to make it wasn’t as high. I know that my first legendary cost a whole lot less than my third, simply due to how old the game and market was. What about the people who got multiple Infinite Lights, Mjolnirs, or Halloween items that aren’t legendary status? What’s the fluctuating gold cost limit for them to compensate a player?

It’s always nice to take everything with healthy suspicion and expectations.

I’m glad we’re getting a wardrobe, because it means I can free up space from my bank (transmutation stones, and excess skins). It lets me play collector (get every skin!). It means that I don’t have to do Arah again for my second Elementalist’s look. I can pull it from my current Necromancer, as she has the parts I want already. It means I can have my current three legendary skins on my other characters.

I probably won’t be using it to constantly change looks, as when I created a character and finalized their gear, I had a set look in mind for them. To me, this wardrobe is convenience. The option is there if I want it. The charge pricing hasn’t been released yet, but it’s like a repository for all the skins, and if I want to use it, I can just go to that repository to bring it back up.

However, I’m concerned about the fact you won’t be able to mix and match town clothes (from what I’ve read). That’s where town clothes excelled, and there were a lot of unique combinations from that, just like armor.

now what if there becomes some new gear, that fits your charachters style, but only some of the time, lets say its something he/she would only wear in special occaisons, under the current system, and the new one you probably wouldnt bother, because you ll have to pay 12 gold to switch, and 12 gold when you switch back. But under an unlock system you would pay the 12 gold once, and anytime it felt approriate to wear that armor you would switch to it.

congratualtions anet, you just made 12 more gold which translates into 1.75 roughly than they would make otherwise.

Not everyone has the same reasoning and behavior. I’m sure ANet has considered both, and went with the more profitable option (which I don’t blame them for).

We still don’t know the cost (if they’re even varied per skin rarity). If it’s a high cost, I highly doubt that people will be putting their legendary skins on a low level item. Because they would have to continuously reskin that item as the character levels up. With both stones and crystals merging to one type of cost, it might not even be worth it for a Lvl 1 to have Eternity.

So I can’t apply any skin on any character without buying Transmutation Crystals from the gem store?
Neat.

You can still obtain the skin through normal methods, if you like. No one is forcing you to use the wardrobe feature.

If you’ve been hoarding Transmutation Stones and Crystals, don’t worry! When the Wardrobe goes live, you’ll be able to convert your them into Transmutation Charges. Transmutation Crystals can be directly converted into charges, and Transmutation Stones can be converted at a three-to-one rate.

Currently, Transmutation Stones are given as a reward for map completion and dailies. What will happen to those is currently unknown. So you will not necessarily have to buy gems for charges.

Lets say I have Tier 3 armor unlocked on character level 80 Elementalist.
Can I use the same Tier 3 full set skin on my alt level 30 Mesmer?
Is it for free? I saw there was a “buy more” menu on YT video.

If I make a legendary, I can use that skin on all my characters?

If the characters are the same race, yes you would be able to use it. It is not free.

The buy more option in the video was referring to transmutation charges, the replacement to the Transmutation Crystals and Stones. Applying skin changes through the wardrobe will cost transmutation charges.

Yes, to the legendary. For an unknown transmutation charge cost.

Will unid dyes stop dropping or something after feature patch?

Unidentified Dyes will no longer drop after the feature patch. Currently the methods to get one besides drop:

Harvesting (small chance)
Black Lion Chest
Laurel merchant (10 for 5 laurels)
Dye Pack (200 Gems)
Mystic Forge

Whether or not it will remain from harvesting is unknown, but it’s highly likely in my opinion.

You realize you can craft dyes, right?

The dyes crafted from cooking are different from the item Unidentified Dye.

No. ArenaNet is not responsible for appeasing players who decide to get two of one skin, in my opinion.

You still have best in slot (legendary), changeable prefix (legendary), and you won’t have to pay the transmutation charge cost (which is still unknown) for that second.

Im wondering how this will work too… it would suck to get charged a transmute charge when I want to use my Heritage stuff which has always been free.

If they get thrown into the wardrobe as well, the currently free skins will probably just have a charge of 0.

We don’t know the cost of the transmutation charges for a legendary skin yet.

As for legendary rarity. Legendaries have already been losing their rarity status. The game has been out almost 2 years now. Tons of people have legendaries, whether it be from doing it the normal way, or buying off the TP.

The wording isn’t clear, but I think that they would have made a clear, obvious distinction if they made the system have everything pre patch, be soul bound. It would create too much hassle, in my opinion.

In that scenario, they would be keeping track of XYZ characters with these dyes marked as soulbound. Then player unlocks it account wide, which changes that specific soulbound dye to account bound, keeping the rest soulbound.

As for the

“When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.”

That could also be interpreted as, instead of the current way of dyes. After the patch hits, blahblahblah will be the new way.

From the general understanding, you will be able to use the skin on another character for X (unknown right now) amount of transmutation charges. However, the ability to choose prefix when out of combat, and having best in slot stats, will not be applied. Only the look.

“When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.

If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account."

So does this mean, in order for us to make a dye account unlocked, we must buy the color and unlock it, and if we already had it unlocked on individual characters then we get an unidentified dye for each old character locked dye of that color?

So we must once again purchase a single dye of every color we want regardless of how many characters already have it unlocked?

I’m a bit confused as to what you’re asking. But from my understanding…

All dyes on your characters will be converted to account-wide. Any duplicates across characters will pop an unidentified dye into your inventory (for a chance at another color). Any dye used after the feature patch is implemented is also automatically account-wide.

Prices always seem to go nuts the moment new information releases, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they calm down after awhile and it lowers. Glad I’ve been saving up my unidentified dyes for my eventual work towards Bifrost though.

Personally, I think that they shouldn’t include legendaries in the list of allowable skins.

I don’t have one, but would like one and I can see people getting together in a group, buying one item and sending it between friends, or onselling.

It would surely devalue the effort of legendaries

I was under the impression that the item would have to be equipped in order for it to become an account bound skin. So I don’t think your situation would play out. But that remains to be seen.

The only thing i’m going to hate about this is not having 100% wardrobe unlocked because of discontinued skins XD

Same here. I converted some of the skins from living story to PvP because they were hogging up space. ;~;
