GW was not vertical progression. At level 20, you could buy the top and only level of gear from vendors for next to nothing. The big money items were the snazzy looking ones. Same stats.
GW2 has vertical progression. Even at 80, it’s got white, blue, green, yellow, orange, & pink levels of gear. 6 tiers. And orange (exotic) cost a fair amount of money/time for your first time 80, not hard if you plan ahead but an acceptable amount of needed effort. Pink though (ascended) is ridiculously expensive and requires a lot of time and crafting and materials to attain.
For a game designed around build strategy being the separating factor in combat, such expensive gear doesn’t really lend itself to trying to new builds that require new gear. Who wants to grind for an ascended zerk set, only to have to grind for a dire set to try a different build. Oh yea, and there’s WvW as well, which requires a completely different style of play than PvE. New armor set there too.
Too much grind for max tier gear = vertical progression

Could we please at least get a red post saying IF anything is going to be done or if my farmed heirlooms are just wasted on a potentially fantastic item with horrible clipping/sizing/position issues?
I have a day and a half to make a decision on which potion to get and so far, neither of them look good on my asura main.

If you hover over the zone names in the world map and they all say 100%, then it’s the Chantry of Secrets for sure. GL
Also, even if you have 100% on a zone that has since gotten a new POI (see JayMack’s list above) you may have to rezone into them to get credit. Like a reload of the map info.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Maybe each kind, but surely not every single one in the 40 minute evacuation. It’s a map wide effort.
This is why it’s hard to get. It’s not a personal effort, but one that requires the whole map to coordinate. Ideally, you’ll see ppl in map chat saying things like “we’ve got enough ppl here at X. Head to Z to help out.” You need success in your zone at the same time others are succeeding in their zones.

1. Remove Ascended gear
2. Make conditions viable in dungeons, large-scale battles
3. Make combat require more than dps-output (support, strategy, dmg mitigation, etc)
4. No more RNG boxes, rare chance tokens, gem store only armors & weps – in game!!!
5. Search function on the TP that sorts by armor type
.
.
.
6. Remove Ascended gear

One Question Though: Where is all the waste material?
How do you think we’re being rewarded for this living story?
Ba-dum-ttsssss!!!
But seriously folks…I like the rewards this time around

… I mean, give us 20 heirlooms for getting 1,200 citizens, then people would ALWAYS get 1,200 citizens, but no …
Actually, 1200 will get you 8 9 heirlooms. 5 from the 1200 box and 1 from each of the 3 4 bags you’ll earn on your way to 1200.

Your issue is that you want it now. Unfortunately, there’s a pretty important event going on in LA now. And the next LS release on Tuesday will probably be even bigger. You’re going to have to
a) wait till LS ends to farm world bosses
b) guest to a server that regularly does world bosses
c) a ham sandwich
Personally, I’ve gotten probably 100 dragonite ore from the LA event so far and I’ve done about a dozen runs. Every bit helps. And we got 1200 last night. That’s still happening too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Huh…that’s a fair point.
I think the reason for these additional costs is simply because there’s a lot more gold floating around than there was this time last year. It’s inflation costs. If the heirloom potions cost 10g a year ago we’d see a lot fewer people with them than we will this year. Heck, a year ago you could buy common dyes for like 18c. Now they’re 1s. Everything’s gone up.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yak’s Bend here. Did 2 runs yesterday in non-overflow. Got 1200 on first run at server reset (7pm EST) & then 900 immediately afterward.
I’m actually surprised the first run hit 1200. I figured the daily reset would have everyone spending that first run hunting heirlooms and not winning the event.

Anyone?? I could really use the advice, given that I haven’t seriously played my ranger in almost a year.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you’re talking dungeon PvE, you don’t want a condition build.
If you’re talking open world PvE, then you’re fine. Pistols, grenades, bombs, spam, enjoy.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Condition Engi is already really strong. I don’t think we need a redesign to add fear to the mix. As for control, the flavor of engi is that of knockbacks and immobs, not fear. We make tings ‘splode and cover ’em in nets. That’s how we operate. I can’t think of a gadget that would thematically invoke fear.
What we need are for our existing gadgets, gizmos, and doodads to be fixed, tweaked, adjusted, and primed. Kit Refinement needs to work again. Flamethrower needs to be made for effective as an offensive weapon. And turrets need to be made to function as they were initially conceptualized.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If I don’t have enough cyphers to combine into a key, should I just throw out the remaining pieces I have?
Of course, since there is no way to get them anymore.
Or check out my suggestion here for a LS vendor so we can do something productive with all our LS leftovers.

Wanted to take my ranger off the shelf where it’s been for a while. Wondering how this looks for some WvW roaming.

1,000-Point Reward and a choice of skins....
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Seras.5702
Those skins are infinitely usable on all characters. So if you have alts you enjoy think of them. Otherwise, you’re left with the obvious pistol, rifle, shield. I personally went with pistol because I don’t like the look of the rifle and shield is awesome looking but I don’t use it enough across my characters.

The issue with the karma nerf, and every other change they make in an attempt to balance an surplus of anything, is they never revert the changes or tweak them later to adjust for the severe nerf. People had a surplus of karma and nothing to spend it on.
So instead of giving us something to spend it on, they nerfed the means by which to acquire it.
They time gate new ascended gear and celestial gear because they don’t want everyone getting it right away. Well, they’ve been out for months now…I think you can remove the time gating.
They notice how certain crafting materials are flooding the market. They introduce recipes that require a ridiculous amount of these items to reduce the saturation…and then suddenly there’s a huge price increase for these items since there’s no longer any available.
Everything is done in excess and then not brought back to scale afterwards to compensate.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The lack of response from the F2 skill is well-known and quite frustrating.
One suggestion I saw in the CDI is that the F2 skill would not be something that the pet itself does, but rather an aspect of that pet. So rather than waiting for your bear to finish his attack animation before he roars and cleanses, a semi-transparent aspect of the bear (visually like GS Maul) roars at the pet’s location instantly casting the F2 ability. This would solve both the existing problem of the lag of waiting for animations to finish and the potential problem of interrupting an action (like the pet’s Bite skill) to have the F2 skill be instant.
This aspect of the pet would go far to alleviating a major issue with pets right now.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d like to propose that a vendor appear after the LS finishes. He/she will accept all remaining LS items that were never used in trade for some items of little consequence. I have partial stacks of Marionette keys, I’m sure others have Tricolor key pieces, and potentially a half dozen other items from throughout the year+ LS that either never got turned in or are the unusable remains of partial stacks.
Don’t let the vendor sell anything that can’t be acquired elsewhere, but give us something to do with all these extras taking up bank space. The vendor would be proof that we’re allowed to finally “trash” stuff without repercussions.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
…next to your tri-color keys.
I’ve got 1/2 a row in my inventory of all those Marionette items in stack of <25. Can’t bring myself to trash em.

I do really like the idea that Marjory is an illusion. It’s not true, but a mesmer who’s mind is so broken she fabricated a friend and used her magic to make her “real”… that would be really interesting, especially if their mind broke any more. We’ve had enemy mesmers use illusion magic in a big way before, but the plot twist of an ally who’s mind is broken and is deluding themselves (and tricking us), that’s so cool.
What if all of this is just one big Kasmeer illusion? Her broken mind yearning for purpose creates an illusion even she can’t tell is false. Scarlet, Destiny’s Edge v2.0, Steam Creatures from the future, far-fetched alliances…all of it!!
Lol ok I don’t believe that … but it’s fun coming up with theses “theories.”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
From a conceptual standpoint, I see a Ranger with a pet as a team working together. Unlike clones or minions, they should be like 2 buddies, able to communicate and help each other throughout a battle. Which means I think there needs to be more synergy between the player and the pet, allowing one to buff the other, deflect attacks, absorb their strengths, etc.
In game-play terms, a stow-pet option would be cool if it worked like a signet: it’s a temporary benefit/surge that changes the aspect of battle with a risk/reward choice. So, you “stow” your pet, or more specifically “gain the aspect of your companion” which might give a stat bonus but also a tangible change to combat, perhaps working like an Engi kit and changing the 1-5 skills, or perhaps giving the ranger new F1 & F2 skills. It would need to be more than just +15% damage output or something boring. It would need to be something strategic. Perhaps a Moa pet would split into 2 “spirits” and run at the target and give confusion upon “stowing” while the ranger player gains and a new F1 skill that deals extra damage for each condition on a foe. Or stowing a panther teleports the ranger to just behind the target and gives an F1 skill that makes the next 3 attacks guaranteed crits.

GW’s music was far more epic, far more noticeable, and far more memorable. GW2’s music is good, don’t get me wrong, but sadly just not quite up to the original GW level.
Thankfully they recycled a couple GW tunes. The first time I heard that GW pre-searing music in GW2 I stopped dead in my tracks and got a warm feeling in my chest. Made me very happy.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Slightly tilting the weapons and slightly raising the weapons could solve some problems.
They need to look at the other races and try to adapt the weapon positioning so they look as good on asura.
I really want a Charzooka but I refuse to with the current unequipped look. Don’t want to dig a channel in the ground everywhere I go.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think turrets should drop like warrior banners (ground targeted, take no damage) and have charges (like ele weapon summons). Drop turret, it fires its salvo, say twice over a certain amount of time, then self-destructs. Once it dies, it begins to recharge. Lower cooldowns so they’re useable. Allow traiting for more charges and/or shorter time between salvos.
Problem solved.
No offense, but that sounds like a horrible idea.
None taken. My idea is simply an attempt to think very outside the box. When discussing pets, spirits, turrets, spirit weapons, etc, everyone compares them to warrior banners because banners take no damage. I figured that the turrets acting this way would alleviate the whole “they die so fast!” argument, but giving them charges would ensure them not just sticking around forever. Ground targeting would allow area denial and could strategically force enemy movement (eg – drop net turret behind target to discourage fleeing, drop thumper turret in choke point to slow reinforcements while engaged in 1v1).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Been using my warrior alt for the event since it started. It’s been great XP and lotsa fun. Since you get up-leveled to 80, it doesn’t seem any harder than it was with my main. Just dodge often and watch for animations. Ranged fighting helps. I think I’ve gained about 10 levels since event launched.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Well she was in the Edge of the Mists when everything in LA went down. I’m guessing that, rather than going into LA like Braham and the others to evacuate survivors, she’s doing something else “instrumental” outside of LA. Hoepfully, we’ll find out.

Would Axe/Axe be good for a 30/x/x/x/30 build with Burst Mastery (Discipline XI) since Axe#5 ramps up adrenaline really quickly? You could almost sustain 2 fully charged Eviscerates on cooldown right? For bosses (single targets) that sounds really good.
Axe 5 is quite literally never worth using. And you shouldn’t ever be eviscerating except near the end of the fight because you want to maintain the 15%+ damage modifier from Berserker’s Power as long as possible. In x/x/x/x/30 as well, you get 15% crit chance at full adrenaline too, so you’ll be destroying your own crit chance.
But what about x/x/x/x/30 with Burst Mastery, not Heightened Focus? Getting 1/3 of your adrenaline refunded and having Eviscerate deal more damage seems like a good thing. Wouldn’t Eviscerate be good if you could get your adrenaline back to max almost instantly? With Burst Mastery and Axe#5 you can spike with F1 and then get back to full in like 3 secs. Still a dps loss?
Fairly new warrior player. Just trying to learn.

I don’t think they’ve ever deactivated a MF or crafting event recipe, only taken away methods to acquire event materials. So if you’ve got the blade shards and recipe pieces, you should be golden.

HotM unlocks everything for you to test.
To delete you have to select the character, click the delete button, and then type their name in the box as confirmation.
As for my recommendation, I’m with the other that say try em both. I rolled a ranger way back at launch and it was fun for a time but got boring and lacking any variety. It took me probably 3-4 different attempts at rolling warrior before I liked it enough to stick with it. But once I did, I realized I like it better than ranger due to more variety.
They’re both easy to level. Warrior will feel sturdier but ranger has a pet that can tank for you. The ranger pet is often both the source of joy and hate for a player. It’s cool hunting down new animals to tame and working side-by-side with them. However, in dungeons and PvP you’ll need to micro-manage them more, which can be frustrating.
Either are really good first professions to roll. But I’m an altoholic, and have 4 80s and 4 others 45+. I rolled both lol.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you’d rolled asura and sylvari, you’d be playing together by level 15 because their starting areas are right next to each other. However, you two happened to choose races that are just naturally farther apart. Once you finish your personal stories and get into the Order portion of them, you’ll be able to play together without having to alter your course of action.

Take 10 in tools, for speedy kits then play with anything you want. Engineer doesn’t get to have a useful build until level 70+ because we have too many high level traits.
A little over exaggerated but close enough. Play with everything and find out which kits you like most. Until you hit 50-60 you won’t really have enough trait pts to make any of them incredible. There’s no “build” at your level. Experiment with kits and obviously trait to boost them. 10 in Tools for Speedy Kits is great though.

If you’re an asura Mesmer you’ll have no problems. They’re nearly impossible to see on asura anyway so nobody will be able to tell the difference.

You can’t farm leather from nodes either. The discrepancy is that the recipes are equal, it’s the market prices that are not. Apparently, clothies are more popular classes and therefor the demand for tailoring supplies is higher, thus driving prices up. If the recipes were equalized based on today’s market pricing, in time the market will shift and the costs will be uneven. It’s just a shame that the costs are so vastly different.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m actually let down. They looked to fix kitten near every major issue that’s been going on lately. Ranger sword auto, pet AI, turret AI, Engi KR, Engi FT, were a few that really had my hopes up. Alas…
I will say though that those at Anet should seriously read the threads on the forums reacting to the fake notes. Despite the changes not being real, it will give the devs some good insight into how players feel about various possible changes. Things that were hailed as great can be further explored, while things completely hated can be cast out as possibilities and other solutions found if necessary. It also gives Anet more of a feel where the heads of the players are at.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
When I first rolled my warrior I liked rifle. It hit pretty hard. But playing more I realize that LB just offers more. It’s got our only combo field for one. And a blast finisher. Also, Pin Down is amazing. You can take LB with literally any other weapon set and it will be a great supporting weapon.

Everything that MonMalthias said is true.
…for now.
Anet is changing critical damage to Ferocity (in March iirc) and it could very well change the levels on many armors/trinkets, including Celestial. I’d hold off on sinking laurels or gold into anything until that update and we see what changes.
