Just the nature of the Engi design. We’re not made to sit in any one range and attack. Bombs maybe, but face-tanking will get you swatted. We’re built to jump in and out of various ranges, making it harder to pin us down. I like being able to rifle auto and SD and lob some grenades at range and then dive in for a jumpshot > blunderbuss > overcharged.

Knights are too much of a gate to Scarlet now
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Yup, same problem here. I just wanna defeat Scarlet already!
If all you want to do is get the ending and kill scarlet there is a backdoor entrance on the Diverse Ledges. You need to build the back piece up to exotic quality (which can be costly if you don’t have a lot of iron ore around 1), but that should set you on your way to killing Scarlet.
Pretty sure all you need is the blue lvl 20 tier to enter the backdoor.

Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving loot from the Assault Knights. A reward chest will now be awarded after all three Assault Knight events have finished, and will be given to the corresponding participants even if only one Assault Knight was defeated.
Does this reward come in the form of a chest that appears somewhere that we have to open or do the rewards auto-pop up? Because, since the patch, I’ve gotten no automatic rewards other than the silver/karma from event completion.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Before I got a chest after each knight I helped down. Now I get 0 no matter how many I kill. I liked it better before. Reward loot aside, I’m never going to earn enough power cores for my backpack at this rate.
Buy them, plenty of people are getting cores and selling.
Actually, plenty of people aren’t getting them. Some are. Thus, their prices are higher than they should be. They’re in high demand and short supply. Sure, I could buy them. But I’d rather earn them than spend 50g buying them.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Cutting off magic to the dragon would decrease the rate at which the dragons reabsorb the magic of Tyria. As I understand it, every so often the dragons wake up, eat the magic of the world to balance the scales, and then slumber. Cutting off the flow to Mordy would delay his return and keep magic pumped just a little more for us Tyrians.
Not really sure that would require a year’s worth of wonton destruction. Scarlet coulda just come to LA and said, “hey can we drill down and cut the flow of magic from an elder dragon, thereby delaying his return?” I’m pretty sure we’d have been on board.
Thus…I think he plan was to awaken the dragon and it would have happened no matter what we did. She said herself that we were too late to stop it The only thing that didn’t go according to her plan was her death.

Engineer has a LOT of condition sources. You have to kit swap & trait right.
Pistols have bleed, poison, confusion, blind, burn.
EG has bleed, poison, weakness, cripple.
Bombs have burn, chill, confusion, immob.
Grenades have bleed, chill, poison.
FT has burn, blind.
TK has bleed, cripple, confusion.
Traiting gives bleeds and burns.
You can have most of these in one build.
Tack on runes of Perplexity and a Torment Sigil and you’ve got a TON of conditions applied regularly.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So I see Scarlet’s gloves & shoulders in the PvP locker. They look pretty great. Anyone know if/how/when we can get them in PvE?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I really, really want these rifles. As an Engi, I rarely get a decent skin from LS to show off. These rifles are awesome and I must have them!

I haven’t gotten any loot from the Knights in days. And I’ve downed all of them sequentially.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Since I crafted my Celestial armor set with Traveler Runes I haven’t looked back. Was running full Zerker but since our grenades and bombs dish out so many conditions anyway, I find Celestial to be better in terms of pressure and survivability.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
FT is my favorite kit!! Just wish I could use it more like I can bomb/grenades. It’s too much fun to not use.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1. Why are you bringing a condition build into PvE zergs? Even without the condition reflect, you’d be next to worthless.
2. The Assault Knights actually have 2 phases: 1 with condition reflection and 1 with condition susceptibility. Adjust your build and try again.
Because conditions are in game, would it not be better to ask anet to make them viable rather than continuously making them useless?
That argument has been around for over a year. That’s not what the conversation is about. It’s about the Assault Knights, specifically.
And, as I mentioned, they have 2 phases. In the 2nd phase, being condition specced stacks a debuff on them making them more susceptible to damage. So Anet did add a mechanic to these fights making conditions useful. You just have to be smart about it.
As an Engi, I have to be doubly-careful since my autoattacks add conditions even tho I’m specced power. I adjusted. So too should everyone.

I was wondering what he was up to. Couldn’t see him amongst all the particle effects. I hope he gets a medal and a pardon on the 18th.
Got rezzed by Kasmeer during the final fight. That was nice. I got corpse bounced into a corner and she ran all the way out to me.

Unequip and reequip the backpiece. That should work.
If not, craft the basic blue one with lvl 20 req. Equip it on your alt if that’s your desire.

Loved the fights. The mechanics of each fight required you to stop for a minute and not just mindlessly zerg. Condition play on the Assault Knights was nice.
Scarlet was about to spill the beans and Braham tells her to shut it. I can no longer like Braham. Moron. I’m shocked Jory didn’t smack him and said “yes, give us free intel.”
The Scarlet ‘splosion was…awkward. It looked neat but weak and then suddenly Braham’s leg is broken and Jory is near death? Meanwhile I’m still standing in the background exactly where I was like nothing happened.
The loot was awesome. That helm looks fantastic and I only wish I could have 2. Vision Crystal made me double-take. Thanks for that. And when I downed my first Assault Knight and saw all those boxes I was like o.O
I will say I think this event needs a little more direction. “Escape” was well done, explaining what needed to be done, mostly working because it was zone wide and there were rally points outside of LA to get the skinny. But with “Battle” I went in and was like “uhh…..what now? Oh an event” <wander>. Unless I missed it, some sort of direction to down Scarlet’s 3 Assault Knights to gain access to her Breachmaker would have been nice. Thankfully, map chat was helpful and let me know about that.
As for the shocker of an ending….kinda saw it coming. Now if I hadn’t been a forum-goer maybe I wouldn’t have. But I was expecting someone to die other than Scarlet. And I was hoping for a bigger twist. Awakening a dragon is cool and honestly, the next logical step I guess. And where was Taimi in all of this?? I hope she plays a bigger role in season 2.
Final Grade: B+++ / loved the loot and the fights and the cutscenes were pretty good but I was hoping for a more M. Night Shyamalan twist.

Anet ups the rewards.
People still whine.
They just can’t win.

engineers and pve HAHAHAHAHAHA that was a good one, wanna pve? go warrior or go home
Ignore this person. He/she clearly has no idea and prefers instead to abandon creative thought…which explains his/her penchant for warrior. Engineer are great in PvE.
Bombs and grenades will be your high damage kits. Bring a rifle, gear zerk, and blast away.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I gave the Assault Knights a go last night and killed all 3, dealt constant damage, and got event success message (karma, xp, silver). However, I only got loot from the 1st 2 (blue & green) and nothing from the 3rd (red).
I noticed I didn’t have the red icon over my head either upon killing the red knight so I’m wondering if the event only rewards you if you have the icon for standing in the proper circles for each fight. Which would be stupid, but it’s just a guess.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
There were some weak skills in GW but for the most part I thought they very unique and even the ones with drawbacks were useful. The necro skills that sacrificed health were extremely strong, and could be maintained with Healing Breeze as a N/Mo in an organized group. Using Dolyak Sig with Drunken/Desperation Blow was super awesome. Skills had much more synergy and interacted in clever ways.

GW2’s combat is more dynamic than any of the games you listed. WoW you can use just a keyboard because you basically just stand in one place and spam skill rotations. GW2 has dodging and telegraphed aoe and heavy movement.
Also, I don’t even understand your plight. Use the mouse to turn but you can’t then use your other hand to press keyboard buttons? Are you handicapped (serious question)? If so, try a gaming mouse like the Naga Razor. It has a ton of programmable buttons so you can essentially use only your mouse if necessary. But any mouse can have its buttons bound. My 2 thumb buttons are mapped to my 6 & 7 for instance.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you pick a stat combo and equip it, does that soulbind it?
If you then upgrade it, does it become account bound again, or still soulbound?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Thaddeus explained it well. The intentional design of no Trinity has its pros & cons, just as having the Trinity does. Personally, I prefer no Trinity, but feel that the dungeons themselves need to be redesigned. Since it’s the intent of Anet to have every class be able to deal damage, avoid damage, and support a team, dungeons should require more of the latter and less of the former. Damaging attacks should be more frequent and hit for less damage so-as to make defensive stats/gear a viable choice. Also, encounters should be designed so that support skills are required, but broadly so that they don’t force a specific class. Periodic reflects, for instance, can be done by almost every class.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I would bump to bring back to page1 because I think this needs to be addressed. BUT it’s patch day so we’re not going to get a response. Beautiful. I bought my Selfless Potion in case the vendor disappears and in hopes that they’ll fix it soon.
fingers crossed
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Well, yes, they are planning on releasing a large balance/fix patch soon after the LS ends. However, Anet has also said that this finale will be epic. In which case, I’m expecting not only and end to this LS, but an obvious lead-up to the next LS. If we see a gigantic dragon rise out of the ground beneath LA, or watch as Scarlet’s machine splits Tyria in 2, or opens a portal to Cantha….we’re gonna be enticed to stick around.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You like the asura thief? Roll an asura engineer. You’ll be ’sploding stuff and bouncing all around in no time laughing maniacally the entire time.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Lol I was in Orr last night (Yaks’ Bend) and noticed that literally every temple except Balth was open at one time. I announced them to my guild and nobody cared. Made me laugh. The only temple people care about and it was the only one locked.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I too have a plethora of LS leftovers. I suggested a vendor for after the last LS patch for us to lighten our bags of all the random stuff we’ve accumulated over the year+.
As for the backpieces specifically, I like the different tiers having different appearances. I hope in the future we’ll see more of this. Maybe the next one will be shiny and get more and more shimmery as you upgrade it. Or covered in fire or dripping with toxin or filled with stuff.
The 1st tier of the latest backpiece (without the blades) is a poor man’s molten jetpack.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
While I do like the traditional 5-man dungeon (or 8 if so designed), I too am a fan of the LA event as a dungeon style. Unfortunately, it will be restricted to temporary LS events due to the sheer size of the groups required to complete them, but they’re a nice change of pace. I like the idea of a zone-wide strategy and coordination. It’s the PvE equivalent to WvW.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m desperately looking for a 2nd armor set-up so this is good stuff. My zerk set looks so good, but I have a Celestial set that I’m just not happy with. Anyone with some T3 mix-n’-matching?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Imagine Guild Wars 2 with preparations as your F1-F4 skills.
OOooohhhhh……That sounds so fun. Although they kinda did that in GW2 with Guardian virtues and venom thieves.
While the pet is a unique and potentially rewarding mechanic, a ranger focusing on bows and whose core mechanics were preparations and spirits would have been boss. And we need dynamic spirits like we had in GW (eg – Pestilence, Famine, Equinox, Brambles, Tranquility).
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Gonna preface this with: I love my engineer. Best class in the game, most blah blah, etc etc etc.
However, I would like to see more non-kit weapon options. Not because I think our kits are lacking or I dislike the mechanic. I actually love the mechanic. But the kit system just doesn’t synergize with aesthetics. Drop 2k gold on a Legendary rifle and you’ll see it maybe 1/2 the time. Grind out a sweet, limited availability backpiece and you’ll see it maybe 1/2 the time or clipped horribly. More weapon options would potentially give us less time in kits. BUT I’d rather see some sort of aesthetic fix for kits.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
1) Engineers have very low weapon variety, Ive heard this is because of kits. Thus, how much use of an actual weapon(non kits) does an engineer have?
Inversely, can an engineer fully rely on kits and never pull their “real weapon”?
Our weapons (rifle, pistol, shield) are actually pretty good, but you’ll never use just your weapons because it would seriously hamper you. You can however, rotate through your kits and never use your weapons. Although, that’s not ideal, as our weapons have good tools so again, you can but you probably wouldn’t. In general, you’ll spend the vast majority of your time in kits.
2)Are there any expectations I should have for endgame? will I suddenly suck there, how varied will builds be, etc.
Engineers are even better once we hit 80. Our traits are pretty solid. The variety of builds is wide, even within the same build. For instance, certain utilities/traits can be swapped around for variety or playstyle preference or situationally.
3) How many turrets can you have out at once?
Four plus your elite Supply Drop. But you never will. Due to them dying as quickly as anything else summoned, they’re most often used by dropping > overcharging > detonating/picking up. Supply Drop is pretty epic though.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
For straight damage I think FT’s Flame Blast wins.
However, ToolKit’s Throw Wrench hits twice (out & back) plus static discharge. Not as much damage, but 2 stacks of vuln and the utility of Gear Shield and Prybar if close.
PBR + Static Discharge doesn’t deal nearly the damage as FT #2 either. Surprise Shot deals more damage than PBR toolbelt.
Rocket Turret might be a decent choice, but the cooldowns are longer. Between overcharging the turret + its toolbelt, you’ll get some nice burst. Better sustained though if you’re swapping to FT on CD.

I leveled my warrior alt from about 36 (iirc) to 65 using the LA event. I ran the events, gathered heirlooms, used longbow for ranged aoe (since low level with sub-optimal gear = quick deaths in melee zerg), , completed events, and saved citizens. Basically did the event as I felt it was designed to be played. I can’t say how many runs I’ve done, but if I had to guess maybe about 20.
Also, I used a birthday booster (huge help!), as well as food and sharpening stones, and any banners that ppl dropped. With my standard guild bonus, I generally had at least +85% XP gains.
Also, I traded all Found Belongings for Tomes for +1 level each.

Why I doubt the rescue events will disappear
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Seras.5702
I think the evacuation event will end with Tuesday’s update. The next patch is going to be the battle. So evacuation should be done and it’s time to rally and fight. We’ll have a new event in LA, which may last longer than 2 weeks, but that’s speculative too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
My quick & dirty assessment of warrior versatility is that it’s based on
- large variety of weapons
- large variety of strong traits
Every class has “those traits” which are just awesome and make players feel that they’re mandatory. Warrior has Cleansing Ire and Dogged March (and others) for example. But they also have a really good spread of traits that can vastly change the gameplay focus. Other classes need that same trait variety and viability. Some professions like Ele, feel forced into certain traits because they’re so good as to be baseline for survival. Others have so many traits that are lackluster (guardian) or completely misplaced (ranger) that builds are strained.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
These are the things that initially drew me to the class back at head-start.
- pet ally
- large variety of pets
- longbow/shortbow
- spirits
- lots of evasion and skirmish/guerilla style combat
Eventually, I realized that, while all of the above are true, some of them are lacking. If they can perfect the above “likes” I’ll come back to my ranger full time.
