A tip and a fun thing to do with hammer. When running away from a fight, bind a key to look behind you. You can use earthshaker like this for a surprise stun that almost nobody anticipates.
also, use about face, then hammer 3 then about face again to cripple pursuers. You can do the same thing with hammer 5, charge it, last second about face and boom. More obvious then the earthshaker trick though.
I love doing that reverse ES trick. It’s true that no one ever expects it cause it lands everytime.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
… (…and a real heal)…
Get used to the the Med Kit and Healing Turret. Practice with em. More often than not, HT will be your go-to heal. Learn to drop it, overcharge it, and blast the field. Actually, a major strength of Engi is the ability to drop a variety of combo fields (especially water & fire) and blast the crap outta them.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Asura. Actually, no matter the profession, the answer is always asura.
Their hobosacks aren’t obnoxiously huge, they have the funniest quips, and they look way better in armor than a charr.
And, as Switch said…all the ladies.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Good addition Darkoray…I didn’t even get into all the various cc we have.
Rifle #2
Rifle #4
Shield #4
FT #3
BoB
Bomb #5
Pistol #5
Net Turret
…and those are just immobs and knockbacks.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@Mijo: thinking you posted to the wrong thread…
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Dodging = Engi survival
We have plenty of ways to gain vigor and boost our endurance regen. Grab 1 or 2 of those traits and dodge often.
Never stop moving. I know it’s a pain but learn to toss those ’nades while on the move.
Grenade and Bomb Kits have aoe blinds. Use them wisely. Your pistol also has a bouncing blind. With 3 aoe blinds and high endurance regen, you should be getting hit very infrequently.
Also, Healing Turret is amazing. Since you’ve got a shield, practice dropping it, overcharging it, popping shield #4, and then detonating or picking it up (as the situation requires). It’s got a relatively low cooldown and heals for quite a lot, plus it cleanses 2 conditions. Get good at using HT.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think I might like that bug with Elixir H. Getting 5s protection and 2s vigor sounds pretty nice. Getting 10s regen and then a lucky timed 1s prot could be pretty neat.
As for EG, yea, it’s not supposed to work on any of its skills, despite the tooltip saying they’re “elixirs.” That one’s been discussed a lot.
And I’m almost certain there was a bug where Potent Elixirs wasn’t properly affecting Elixir U but it was fixed. If it got re-broken well….then that’s pretty lame.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
My advice for all new GW2 players: DODGE
This is a movement heavy game and standing in 1 place and shooting will result in swift and merciless deaths.
Engi has a lot of great traits for keeping Endurance regen up. Coupled with constant swiftness, we can avoid a lot of damage. Keep moving, use smart dodging, don’t spam skills, use them strategically, and have fun. Engi has a lot of build variety that makes experimentation a joy.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Have some problem with my suggestion?
Yea apparently he ignored Warlord saying that there are no tricks for warrior because it’s straight-forward ez-mode and decided to focus on your contribution.
Obviously, it’s not a build you’re going to run with in all situations, but it sounds like fun being nigh-unkillable camping a capture point.
Not every build or tip needs to be pro dungeon raider or WvW approved or PvP meta. The more fun, variety, goofy, unique, and experimental the happier I am. Variety keeps things fresh. Sure I’ll have my gear/build for serious content, but I wanna goof off too sometimes.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I like the “instance” in the DR bar because it feels like I’m working with my allies, they remember me from our past interactions, and (most importantly) it feels like I’m leading the group.
One of the biggest let-downs of the personal story is playing second fiddle to Trahearne, despite all of our effort and accomplishments. With Destiny’s Edge v2.0, I feel like I’m Eir, rounding up these heroes and forging ahead with the plan.
Hopefully, I don’t let them down in the end and get someone killed
>.>

[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So far, I’ve found “more options” for warrior than guardian. I’ve only played them both to ~45, but all the weapon combos and tons of awesome traits have made leveling a warrior more enjoyable simply because I can switch things up frequently. I never felt that guardian had that much build variety.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
10,000 kills is a lot, but generally I like your reqs Krassix.
Needs to show a total awareness of your class, so maybe 50 kills in PvP, 50 kills in WvW, and 50 kills in PvE. Not a lot of kills but it forces a player into all 3 game styles to prove that he/she is actually a master of their class.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s only smaller visual animations. Your actual effective area of each skill is the same no matter your race or size.
This is the same for character hitboxes. Asura and norn have the same size hitbox, despite their vast size difference.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If u like the gem store, magitech armor looks great. Also the cultural armor has some good pieces to mix-and-match with. COE chest looks awesome too. Best head pieces are the starter goggles imo. Grenth hood from gem store is kinda hot too, but not particularly “engi.”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Asura animations are great! I just rerolled my human warrior to asura for the better animations, better story, better look in armor, and better quips. It’s a fact that my best looking characters are all asura.
Asura cultural (all 3 tiers) work very well with mix-and-matching with other sets.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
At work so can’t post pic of my elementalist (yet) but try out this:
T1 gloves, boots, and chest
T2 pants
Twisted Watchwork Shoulders if you have em (I like the 1-sided shoulder armor)
Hidden helm
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Thanks for everyone’s input so far.
I might be deleting my human after all. I just thought she’d look sexy in the heavy armor but I feel like she’s got no flair.
I’m juggling between an asura for the caffeine-driven, Yoda-esque animations and a charr for the hulking physique. Each has their own con though. Asura have tiny weapons, even at max size, and charr have a goofy run animation on all fours.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yes, it’s subjective. And since I can’t seem to make a decision on my own yet, I’d like to hear why others prefer one race over another. I’d like to hear which races have cool animations from those who’ve played them a lot. I’d like to hear which race/gender combos look best in various armors at both low & high ends.
Also, I did say racial abilities aren’t important for this conversation.
But thanks for your opinion…

[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
They’re both good, but I think the one on the left is more necro-y
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The new animation looks much much better imo. More realistic.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
What’s the best race for warrior? I have a 30 female human atm, but will reroll if necessary.
Primarily this is about aesthetics. Which race/gender combination looks the best with heavy armor and attack animations. Screenshots are more than welcome.
Racial abilities aren’t really important for the sake of this decision, though it seems like Charr is the best in this category. Can’t see myself using non-warrior skills much.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Also “kitten” is what the forum censor inserts for any bad words. Go ahead, type a cuss word and see what appears.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I like that theory, but it leaves one question unanswered for me. Is Scarlet trying to awaken Mordremoth now that she’s free from the Dream? Or is Scarlet trying to destroy Mordremoth now that she’s seen the truth of the dragon and sylvari?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The new WvW map has plenty of achievements. They just aren’t LS achievements.
The purpose of this installment was to recap, investigate, draw theories/conclusions, and set up the last couple of chapters for the big finale. And they’ve done just that.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ellen Kiel is only 1 vote on the council. And the newest one at that. She probably has a hard time convincing the more seasoned councilmembers.
Ellen Kiel’s research into the Thaumanova Reactor, which btw was one of the biggest asura disasters ever, led to more revelations about Scarlet’s past. I’d say, good research.
Ellen Kiel put Mai Trin in jail. And I’m sure that decision was backed by the rest of the council too. But she wasn’t the guard on duty. And she didn’t build the cell with a false hinge or something.
Conspiracy theories require more evidence and less conjecture.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
All UI stuff should disappear from the top-right in PvP and WvW, except for achievements specifically tracked.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The only way to change the meta from zerker to anything/everything else is to make PvE monsters behave similar to players. Specifically, this means increasing attack rates and decreasing damage per hit.
As it is, we have to dodge an attack that can 1-2 shot us every couple seconds. This negates the damage 100%, meaning we have no use for toughness, vitality, or healing power.
But if the enemies attacked more frequently and did less damage per hit, we wouldn’t be able to dodge every attack, we’d have to soak up some damage, we’d have to heal up, we’d have to play more strategically. Sure, some of the giant 1-shot attacks need to remain. But that can’t be all there is.
I’m talking about dungeons and fractals
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ll say this much: If this game becomes a Pay-2-Win gem store-apalooza….I will quit. I love the game and love that what I have is based on the effort I put into it. If we start seeing P2W items on the gem store, I’m out. No point trying to compete with people who like to drop real money for in-game advantages.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
+1
At least glue shot. It’s almost never used. Would give P/P some utility.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Due to the nature of the EotM fights, I don’t think a gold reward is a good idea. I can pop in for 2 mins and earn 1-3g for doing nothing?
I do think that some sort of reward is needed, but I’m thinking a passive bonus would be better. Increased Magic Find % or increased WXP gained bonus for 30-60 mins or something along those lines.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think sometimes people just want to complain about something. This patch would be fine for you if they called it something different, like “Feature Patch” and not “Living Story Patch.” Jeesh…picky. When are they allowed, in your opinion, to release content that alleviates problems, like they did with EotM? Should they simply release it with no story to go along with it? Just plunk it down and call it a fix? Or should they, as they have done, introduce it in the context of the ongoing story so it makes sense? Maybe they were planning on releasing this “fix” later but realized the current story would be a good justification for it now.
Even the most novice WvWer (like myself) has no trouble getting the 1 item needed in EotM to further the Living Story and the achievement. Would have taken me less time except I kinda got caught up in the fun of playing WvW in the new map. Huh…guess Anet’s hope that new WvW features will draw players in worked on me. Some people call it “being forced” into doing something they don’t want to do. Well, then don’t do it. But it’s really not hard and it could entice you into doing something you haven’t done before. It’s new permanent content and that’s something that everyone always complains doesn’t happen enough. Well…it just happened.
You said “we don’t really want to sit there and play recap cinema for 30 minutes” and that’s great…because we don’t. If you’ve done the recap you’d know that too. You interact with evidence and take part in conversation, never seeing a cinematic. And it certainly doesn’t take 30 mins.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Not to mention that there are plenty of ways to build survivability into a full zerk set. If you can keep your endurance regen up and bring a couple defensive traits/utilities and learn fights, you’ll be fine in zerk gear.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
That’ll give us Destiny’s Edge v2.0 with a golemancer, ranger, warrior, mesmer, and thief.
golemancer, ranger, guardian, mesmer and necromancer.*
I thought Jory was a thief. Never was clear on that though. She’s good with poisons and antitoxins as we know, and I thought that was explained as being a thief-like trait. She is a sneaky investigator after all.
Wiki says she’s a necro though so my mistake.
Her weapons of choice are Axe/Dagger. Thieves can’t use axes.
Can’t really use that as to why shes not a thief. Rytlock is a warrior and his choice of weapons r sword and pistol. Warriors cant use pistols.
Not saying it’s necessarily a good argument, but that be explained by the Charr racial skill Hidden Pistol. Maybe?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hmm….
Jump off cliff to commit suicide
Med kits appear
Friend rezzes you without touching kits
Run off while friend stays put
Engage in 1v1 battle and have friend strategically pick up med kits and heal you while you’re fighting battle elsewhere
Win every time
Depending on how long the spawned kits last, you could potentially suicide a couple times to spawn extras.
If the trait doesn’t trigger on defeated/falling death, figure out way to put self in downed state. Any ideas?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Nah, we had this Asuran father and son relation drama already in GW1, Anet would not recycle that for GW2 with a father – daughter thing would they…?
Oh, heavens, no. ANet would never recycle ANYTHING from their previous game to use for this game. EVER. Perish the thought.
Agreed…Anet doesn’t recycle stuff. Hey check out my Flameseeker Armor!!!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You’re making excuses. You can’t say “Necros remain the ONLY profession in the entire game without Practical Stability (with the exception of the one cleanse, lich #5).” and then backpedal when others point out that it’s simply not true. You have to trait for it, boohoo. It’s on demand with DS and doesn’t take up a utility slot. Compare that to warrior who has multiple stability skills but they all take up utility slots and have longish cooldowns.
Warrior fear has a 60s cooldown. Necro has multiple ways to fear and with lower cooldowns. Plus stability boon corruption is fear. Fear an enemy right off the cliff. It’s a great interrupt for this map. Also, condition or not, it can’t be cleansed with the likes of Cleansing Fire or Smite Condition because it requires a stun break.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s called Legendary for a reason. It’s supposed to be only wielded by those that have succeeded in many aspects of the game, not just one. If you could get it by grinding COF I’d be kittened. There’s a reason why more people don’t have them. They’re expensive sure, but also require you to accomplish things. Gasp…you mean I have to earn it? Yep.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
…..
Then Taimi refuses, “I am an Asura like my mentor before me.”
She and Zojja then Sparta kick Scarlet down some lava pit.
lol or better yet…
Then Taimi refuses, “I am an Asura like my mentor father before me. You remember him…don’t you???”
Scarlet’s confused look…then wide eyes…Taimi’s resemblance to Omadd becomes apparent, just as Scruffy’s fist smashes down upon Scarlet. Squish, salad, pulp, just add Ranch.
-THE END-
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Weren’t there aetherblades down where you found Scruffy’s bits? I thought I fought some there. Maybe I’m wrong.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
When I first logged in and looked at the achievement list I was like “really? That’s it?”
Then I played a bit and realized this patch is really about a new WvW map and the tiny bit of Living World achievements they injected only guides us to the new content and reveals a bit of story. I like it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
What I like is that some of these characters have flaws that make them more believable than just “big norn hero!” A young, physically crippled asura that wants no pity and takes her flaw and makes it her strength (brains, Scruffy), a charr without a warband gives him the strength to prove himself, and 2 unlikely allies become something more amidst a war. These are the stories we love in real life; seeing tragedy turned to triumph. We get that in GW2 if we look deeper. It’s actually a more “human” story than the original Destiny’s Edge.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
That’ll give us Destiny’s Edge v2.0 with a golemancer, ranger, warrior, mesmer, and thief.
golemancer, ranger, guardian, mesmer and necromancer.*

[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
IIRC, the Marionette is crucial in the charging of the giant floating laser. Ideally, Scarlet would charge the laser up with the Marionette, and then move it fully charged into position.
My assumption is that Scarlet’s preparing for the rise of another dragon, and that the lives of a few hundred/thousand people are inconsequential compared to the successful rise of a dragon. She sees things from a larger perspective.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
…There is also the dialogue between Braham and Rox where we get that Rox just does not get it that she already is in a warband, with Braham and… well, I guess just him…
They need to bring the whole group together better. Right now, Marjory and Kasmeer are their own little unit, even poking fun at Braham during the Toxic Alliance arc. Thankfully, with Rox growing a bit distant, Taimi’s arrival has given Braham a new ally. I’m hoping that Rox comes around and rejoins Braham (with Taimi in tow) with 100% gusto and the KasMarjory unit realizes their “special relationship” won’t be at risk by allying with the other heroes.
That’ll give us Destiny’s Edge v2.0 with a golemancer, ranger, warrior, mesmer, and thief necro.

Hopefully we can now move on with original and high quality armor releases~
This just in!
Marvel in these new armor sets forged by the sun god’s themselves. These reclaimed artifacts will dazzle allies and enemies alike in their brilliance. Each god-touched piece of perfection radiates in golden glitters of purified magic, of which, only a god can harness it’s power…. it’s might… it’s beauty. Are you prepared to become a Sun God..?
Introducing… Sun Blessed light armor woven entirely from light… Sun Hide medium armor stitched together by the flesh of fallen sun gods… and Living Sun Plate, armor forged from liquid sun to create an impenetrable barrier between the soul of the wearer and the wicked world that surrounds them.
For only 800 gems per piece, you can bask in the glory. Once you’ve obtained all 6 pieces, you obtain the title “Sun God”.
LOL!! I’ll take 2 of each! This is hilarious….
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Vitality and Toughness are great while you’re learning the ropes. But work on moving away from the defensive stats and more the offensive stats. You’ll melt enemies faster and the majority of your defense is active, dodging away, kiting, and using your utilities/traits.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The most blast finishers I got on a combo field is 7 – it was on the fire and smoke fields.
The key to a ton of blast finishers is Thumper Turret, but outside of providing 3 blast finishers that turret is not that useful in most scenarios
.
…
Only time I bring Thumper is when I run Juggernaut FT in open world to stack massive might. I can’t figure out a good way to use it other than all those lovely blast finishers. Might try it in my next dungeon run.

…
As far as Scarlet goes, just because one evil genius has invented or created something advanced, doesn’t by default make every thing else in the world out dated.
Actually, this is specifically what determines when a weapon is made obsolete.
Sticks and stones became outdated when the bow and arrow arrived. Sure, they have their place, but the bow and arrow introduced ranged combat, effectively changing the face of war.
The first gunpowder cannon made traditional armor outdated and ineffective. Cultures and armies were forced to adapt or die.
The A-bomb changed the notion of war and diplomacy. The Cold War existed because of what happened in 1945.
Drastically advancing military technology makes old weapons outdated very fast…as fast as your armies die. And I’d say a 200 foot tall metal marionette than charges a floating laser that can instantly kill everyone in an entire zone makes kitten near every one of an engineer’s weapon outdated.
