What do my fellow Engis think of Tool Kit?

in Engineer

Seras.5702

I love ToolKit. Box o’ Nails needs a quicker cast time but otherwise it’s a great kit. I like the control, not to mention (I think) the lowest cooldown block in the game. And the weapon animations are fun (wrench, magnet, prybar).

Bringing TK and EG offer more utility than most professions have access to across all skills. Hits pretty hard, plus a block, pull, cripple, poison, heal field, blast finisher, stun break, and condition cleanse.

Thanks all. I did a search but of course the wonderful feature is worthless and returned nothing.

Guess I just have to keep waiting for a green week as I only need about 4 spots, all of which almost require being green or a really strong control of the map.

Existing weapons on classes.

Seras.5702

Well I think it’s clear Thief needs more weapons. Out of curiosity, did you factor in Thief’s floating #3 skill that changes with each offhand combination? If so, then they really got boned in the skill choice category.

You can also add to your metric the class mechanic skills that each class inherently gets (F-skills).

Necro: 5 (DS skills)
Engineer: 4 (Toolbelt)
Mesmer: 4 (Shatters)
Guardian: 3 (Virtues)
Ranger: 2 (Pet skill + Swap pets)
Warrior: 1 (Burst)
Thief: 1 (Steal/Use)
Elementalist: 0 (Only swaps attunements)

While they aren’t weapon skills, they are still additional skills that each class gets compared to others. Ele having 60 skills but no class skills is fine, meanwhile Thieves having 18 skills and only 1 extra class mechanic skill doesn’t boost their total number much.

So each Friday at 5pm the matches reset right? A winner is declared and a new match-up is decided. What determines the color my server gets assigned? Is it random or indicative of the realm’s rank?

I’m trying to finish my world completion and I really need us to be green, but that hasn’t happened in a while. Also, I’m just starting to get into WvW and am trying to better understand it.

Well if the entirety of your enjoyment in GW2 comes solely from your acquisition of Legendaries and precursors, then stop playing. However, if you can manage to enjoy any of the other numerous aspects of this game, then I’d stick with it. Just wanted to add that I got Battlefield 4 for PS4 a week ago and even that took quite a bit of time to update before I could play it. And we’re not talking about optional DLC.

A PC MMO is obviously going to have a large update, especially one that’s been out for over a year and double especially one that releases content every 2 weeks. There are still countless tooltip fixes, bug fixes, skill balances, and graphic clean-ups, not to mention larger items like Southsun & fractals.

Why Does Adrenaline Seem So Unimportant?

in Warrior

Posted by: Seras.5702

Seras.5702

If you’re classifying the F1(-F4) skills as the “class mechanic” then Mesmer illusions and Guardian boons are not their mechanics. That would be shatters and virtues.

In addition…
Engineer does not revolve on Toolbelt (except 1 build)
Thief does not revolve around Steal
Mesmer does not always revolve around Shatters

Warrior’s adrenaline and use there-of is actually quite prevalent. Plenty of traits to boost not only the effectiveness of the F1 skills, but ways to make it quicker to be ready (build adrenaline). Not to mention that each weapon’s F1 skill complements the style of each weapon (burst, control, etc).

Warrior is the only profession I haven’t been able to level even to 20 due to boredom. Every other profession has made it to 80 (4 of em) or 45 minimum (3 of em).

They’re too easy to play and are strong at everything. They have high sustained damaged, high burst, high health regen, high armor, high hp, high mobility…am I missing anything? On top of all that, their utilities are among the most brainless in the game. Most of them are just pure stat boosters or long-acting boons (signets, shouts, and banners).

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seras.5702

Seras.5702

I’ve probably spent a grand total of 3 hours actually playing WvW. Maybe.

But I’ve got 2 of the 3 Borderlands 100% explored and only need 1 POI and 1 vista for EB. Just waiting for my realm to be green. I’ve done all this without having to fight more than a couple random roamers (all of which I lost due to being a PvE-er). It takes time, exploring only what’s controlled by my realm. And since the OP is only at 50%, time is ok. Pop into WvW and check the maps each time you decide to do some map completion. Grab a few that are controlled by your realm and then back to PvE land.

Also, join some zergs at night and follow em around as they cap outposts. You’ll do nothing but autoattack at times and get easy XP and exploration. Good for alts <80.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t happy about WvW being a part of 100% completion. But I’ve muscled through it and realized it’s not as bad as you think. Call it coercion or manipulation all you like. If it gets people interested in WvW then it’s going to stay as-is for Anet.

Edit: bluestocking’s point has a lot of merit. If you play WvW and eventually get 100% exploration, kudos. But most people shooting for 100% will spend time specifically exploring and not playing WvW as designed. On busy servers, this is dead weight and holds up the queue for actual WvWers.

The big heal is nice. I don’t think anyone feels it’s too small. The flow chart above (thanks & nicely done Chaith) explains the potential pitfalls of AED. They are…

- get interrupted – Shorter cast time would be the obvious solution.

- don’t hit 0 hp – This is part & parcel to the risk v reward of the skill design and, as such, can’t change much. I think reducing the cast time (as mentioned above) would reduce the change of interruption and thus allow more confident casting at lower hp levels.

- have conditions – Add a condition cleanse to the skill: If big heal cleanse 1 condition. If small heal cleanse 3 conditions. Then it can be used at higher health levels as a cleanse instead of a heal and actually have some functionality before we’re <15% hp.

I personally have issues with the toolbelt skill. An interrupt is nice & all but I feel like Engi have plenty of interrupts already and would rather have a condition cleanse skill, especially since the actual heal does not. The targeted interrupt synergizes with SD, but its ridiculously short range is less than ideal.

Warrior is the only profession I can’t seem to get to even level 20 due to boredom. It’s easy mode and you can level with 5 signets and be more than viable. The very definition of boredom.

My engineer on the other hand, is a keyboard dancing maniac that keeps me entertained at all times. The constant kit swapping and actually useful utilities make it the least boring class in the game.

I’d recommend trying other professions past level 3 to get even a remotely accurate idea of how they play. And don’t say all other classes are boring when you admit you’re too lazy to reach the F-keys. Warrior is easy to win with but I’d say the most boring class in the game.

Suggestion: Gift of the Professor

I’m behind this idea. I’m constantly getting leather scraps that I can’t sell on the TP and other materials there’s just no good use for. The game has gold sinks. Let this guy be a surplus material sink, just like Orrian boxes are (were) for karma.

Gift of the Professor could, rather than being another RNG box (which I’m kinda sick of), be a (I shudder to type it) new currency item (cringe). Then we can choose to either turn in mats to him or spend the GotPs buying stuff from his dolyak supplies. He’s a trader, a pawn broker, a collector, a dealer. Gets rid of the RNG and maybe his items are just flavor items. Not BLC boosters, but things like a couple common minis, some things like our kites/balloons, unidentified dye, etc.

OP is exactly why Warrior is the only profession I can’t seem to level. They’re strong, have great boons, deal solid damage, work well solo and in groups….and are boring as hell. Every utility except the Physical ones are passive buffs.

Banner = drop for passive aoe buff
Shouts = use for passive aoe buff
Signet = do nothing for passive buff

I want to like Warrior but I get so bored because I either never use the utilities (signets) or they’re boring stat boosters (shouts, banners).

Other classes have some very interesting utilities that are more than just stat boosters and boon stackers. Warrior needs utilities that are a bit more robust and dynamic.

I’m finishing up world 100% on my main and did the stealth, rabbit, and jotun hearts all on the same day. I’d done them all separately on various other characters, but of course, never with my main.

I don’t feel bad about bashing these few hearts. On the whole, the hearts are generally quite fun and I like the broad range of ways to accomplish them. Of the hundreds of hearts in Tyria, these 3 hearts are “bad” because of annoying mechanics and narrow accomplishment possibilities.

Elixir H, could it be better?

in Engineer

I had an idea for it but I don’t know how others would like it:

elixir H always gives protection and an extra 0-3 random boons depending on number of kits you using. 0 for no kits, 1 for 1, etc.
would make it a proper choice for kit builds while keeping it just as good for elixir builds.

Would this be the way it balances with all the elixir traits? Running traited elixir builds makes H prosper from the traits but not dish out as many boons, while running a kit build without elixir traits gives extra boons?

Seras.5702

Exactly what OP said. 100%

Sure ascended gear gives a small advantage thats undeniable but consider this. First of all its undeniable that the only thing where we can even argue about this is in WvW. In PvE and sPvP I hope we can all agree having it or not makes no difference. (only exception being high level fractals which I dont think fits in this discussion since ascended gear is actually designed for it)

See bolded above. It’s undeniable that Ascended gives a stat advantage. Glad you led with that. And if Ascended is designed for a specific aspect of the game, fractals, that means that you must acquire it to be successful. Content gated by grind.

Back to WvW lets go crazy and assume ascended gear has a 20% advantage over (thats more like 2x-4x the actual number but lets go with 20% for the sake of argument since I am sure we can at least agree the advantage isnt larger then 20%) in a skill based game is that such a big deal? how many here in WvW went against much higher odds and won? if you come a cross an group of 5 enemies and you’re just 4 do you think ohh no we’re dead? Plenty of you tube videos of small 5 player groups taking over zergs many times their size even 5 times larger or more and they still win or hold their own.

See bolded above. In a skill based game, yes, the stat increase is still a big deal. If they weren’t important, we wouldn’t have them. Go ahead, run WvW in yellows and tell me if you’re not automatically suffering a handicap even before the battle starts. WHy would you want that? Why would you want to start every encounter already at a disadvantage? Now your skill is even more important since you have to overcome that disadvantage. Evenly built, your opponent will have more hp, more toughness, hit harder, have more crit %, and/or heal better.

in most gear based MMOs yeah numbers are everything since everyone is gonna likely be using your same build and know the correct rotation. In Gw2 it is different.

And I am not even going to go over the fact WvW isnt about individual kills which makes said advantage even smaller!

Can’t hold a point or lay siege if you can’t stay alive or kill your enemy. No, it’s not team deathmatch. But if you can kill a dolyak faster it’s a good thing right? And if you can flip a supply point quick that’s a good thing right? And explain how all this makes an advantage (which is a fixed number btw) smaller. 5% is 5% and I’ve heard that based on skill scaling, the 5% stats actually increase various abilities much more than just 5%.

I stand by my statement; GW2 has more build variety than many other MMOs. I never said it was better than GW. I hate the classic trees that WoW and SWTOR have, forcing you to choose your class and then not be able to truly tailor your build beyond the most obvious choices within the single tree. Every Enhancement Shaman is exactly alike.

GW2’s traits offer a more build variety even within the same basic framework. Rifle/SD Engineers can all be built in a variety of ways, each having different traits and utilities that make each fight unpredictable. Yes, they’re generally glassy and bursty. But one may have sacrificed Rifle Turret for Rocket Boots for an escape, while another sacrifices burst damage for more control. All this variety, within the same build framework.

I just don’t understand why they didn’t release new super hard to acquire but beautiful armor skins and call it horizontal progression. That’s how GW worked (I know, a different game) but everyone was pretty keen on working for new armor skins without any stat gains for years, so long as they looked good.

Ascended kinda ruined that notion of horizontal progression. To say that it’s not needed is a terrible argument because it exists, some people will have it, some people won’t, and those that have it will be improved from it. Skill is skill, and that’s important. But to think that a person of skill level X will not benefit from a 5% increase in stats is deluding yourself. They’ll still have the same skill level, but have higher stats. I think that’s significant. And while you don’t need Ascended gear to do dungeons, I’m sure it’ll help someone who has trouble with Arah. And I’m sure it’ll help in a small WvW battle.

And lastly, by making Ascended gear so grindy and expensive to acquire reduces build variety and adaptability. 90% of players with Ascended will have only 1 set, which effectively pigeon holes them into playing only builds that that stat set allows.

Boss name: Bob

Bob looks like a human and is the size of a skritt. He walks around dropping bombs that deal bout 100 dmg.

Everytime Bob takes bout 10k dmg he grows. he can grow to be bout twice the size of Teq, Shatterer or Claw of Jormag.(Yes I know thats kitten huge) the bombs also deal more damage the bigger he gets so eventually he will be able to down a player with 1 bomb at his largerst size.

Bob can also shrink by having his bombs do 0 damage to all players. So if Bob is huge and left alone by players he will return to skritt size eventually. His health will grow depending on his size. Also at his biggest size he can step on players.

This boss will not be about doing damage because his health will not decrease with player damage. Instead players must use a push or pull skill and push or pull him into his own bombs. (all classes can push or pull already looked into this). Also With his size the number of skills needed to push/pull him to bombs increase. 1 person needed for skritt size all the way up to 20 players needed for largest size.

I like the concept of starting small and getting huge, but this fight is too gimmicky for my taste. It’s Canach all over again. Not to mention the group coordination of 20 people all trying to CC him into a bomb would cause him to bounce around but rarely in the right direction. I’m assuming World Boss due to your description so the number of players constantly CCing him would be utter chaos.

I’m thinking instead a mechanic that will slow/stop/reverse Bob’s growth. If you can use a certain environmental item that temporarily stops the growth, during which time you can burst him down piece by piece, that might work. Or periodically having to stop attacking altogether while players channel 3-6 asura tech gizmo towers that will reverse Bob’s growth by 1 step each time it’s fully channeled and fired.

I like a lot of the mechanics for these bosses. Saving a village rather than simply killing a big dude in a room is nice (Scourge). Using environmental pillars to attain aegis to block specific attacks forces players to move around and not stack (Kanis). And cleave attacks also prevent stacking zerkers.

On the whole, what I like about these boss encounters is that 100% 5-man zerker groups will fail. Rather than broadening our roles, the absence of the trinity has instead pigeon-holed us into zerkers with dodges. These encounters encourage teamwork, coordinated boon removal/cleansing, etc.

Nobody cares about vit/tough in dungeons because boss attacks kill us no matter how much we’ve got. What we need are bosses that have faster attack speeds and lighter hitting attacks, more on the order of what another player would do. WvW is the only place that we have to build for survival, team support, and damage. Quit with the 10,000hp aoes and 7,000hp barrages that insta-kill us and instead make us choose when to block, when to dodge, when to interrupt, when to heal through, and when to take it. As it is, you never just take the hit.

While Fractals are having their own reward system, battle system, agony resistance system, I think they deserve their own subforum where discussions would not clash with those of dungeons. What do you think?

If you wish to pitch the idea, drop an email to forums@arena.net so we can discuss it.

Wait…isn’t this idea of Romo’s a suggestion? lol I don’t even know where to post stuff anymore.

Sure, a lot of the stuff in the Suggestion forum will be better off now in more specific sub-forums. But many ideas will get quickly buried in the large general discussion forum. It rolls quite fast and, without a proper search feature, forum-goers are going to have to get used to rummaging through multiple pages to find even new stuff.

Fourm changes. Good, bad?

The removal of the Personal Story forum feels like the official death of the personal story system in GW2. Is there a better place to discuss the personal stories or is its removal our indication that no more personal story will ever be added?

Though I will miss the Suggestions forum, having our ideas placed in more appropriate sub-forums will probably garner more acknowledgment. The changes are good.

How far can you push a guardian?

I find that building for condition damage (and obviously survival) is the way to go. Conditions aren’t mitigated by armor or toughness and you can dish em out and then kite away while they eat away at your enemies.

Leveled my thief with conditions and it was EZ-mode using dodge-trops, caltrops, and D/D #3. Just mad stacks of bleeds and stealth away.

Obviously, different mechanics for guardian; never got mine past 45 due to boredom. But I’d think that if you can keep burns rolling you’ve got a shot. Maybe swap scepter to mace?

I don't understand this class...

Firstly, don’t judge a class on what it’s like at level 5.

Secondly, the strength of our kits is the lack of cooldown that allows us to quickly swap amongst them for whatever skill our situation requires. At sucha low level you’re simply relegated to spamming untraited grenades or pew-pewing with your gun. Not very awesome.

However, at later levels and with more unlocked, (for example) you’ll be closing in with rifle #5, blasting with #3, swapping to ’nades & tossing out 2 specific grenades, swapping to bombs and using 2 specific bombs, then to elixir gun for #4 retreat.

Engi is not designed to sit in 1 kit an autoattack.

As for no kits, yes it’s possible, though aside from a Static Discharge build they’re not terribly effective. It would be like using another profession but never swapping weapons; you’re hindering yourself.

What future "Kits" do you want?

Spotter kit. A kit focusing on amplifying your turrets and a tag feature that makes all your turrets focus on the target and gives bonus for doing so. Basically your turrets will do well if you use this kit to maintain them efficiently. It can give temporary buffs to your turrets as well like increase speed and power or temporarily add an effect.

I’m down with this except for the fact that it’d take up a utility slot, leaving you with only HT + other turrets. While the kit would make combat more variable, I’d rather just have better traits so I can being a whole bar of turrets that are effective.

Oh Elixir Gun is a fantastic support kit. It has a 50% uptime healing field, a blast finisher, aoe condition cleanse, and can even dish out some useful team support conditions like weakness, cripple, and poison. Plus, its toolbelt is a stun breaker with aoe regen.

It can fit into just about any build.

Fun Build Advice

@Jastorm

- Rifle is a power and control weapon.
- FT scales better off power than condition damage, not to mention it only has one condition (burning). Use it to stack might on the fire field, and aoe blind and knockback. #2 deals nice damage too.
- EG will be used for team support, spreading poison to reduce enemy healing, creating a healing field, & blasting water fields (HT). Also, Acid Bomb scales very nicely off power.

Rampager’s condition damage would be wasted in my opinion.

I usually go for Rifle Mod other then Sitting Duck because you have a bunch of control to start with.

I like Sitting Duck because it gels nicely with Modified Ammo, essentially making your Net Shot increase your damage by 6% due to the 3 simultaneous conditions. And that’s on an 8sec cooldown.

Actually it’s 11%: 6% from Modified Ammo and 5% from vulnerability stacks. And it increases all direct damage (e.g. toolbelt + SD bolts) not just rifle skills.

And the vulnerability stacking gets even better when you factor in the full rotation, utilizing Net Shot, Jump Shot, Throw Wrench, and Goggles. I think it’s 24 stacks of vulnerability with the above skills and Sitting Duck. Plus the damage modifier from Mod Ammo, you’re looking at some healthy damage dealing.

Also some kind of melee kit. TK has great utility, but we need a true in-yo-face basher.

Junk Kit
1 Rebar: 3 attack chain that weakens on 2nd hit and cripples on 3rd hit (cleaves).
2 Rusty Nail: Leap at your target, closing the distance, dealing damage & poisoning them (leap finisher).
3 Cinder Block: hold up cinder block to block attack, counter-attack by smashing block over opponent’s head and dazing them. Activate skill before counter-attack to drop block and retreat backward.
4 Blasting Cap n’ Gum: Stick a charge to your target, that detonates after a couple seconds and bleeds nearby enemies.
5 Live Wire: Create an electric surge that damages nearby foes and creates a lightening field.

Personally, I like taking MedKit, Goggles, Rocket Boots, ToolKit. I also grab Modified Ammo and Sitting Duck.

You can dish out great damage and conditions. Sure, without +condition damage they don’t hit for a lot, but getting spiked with an SD burst and having vulnerability, cripple, burning, bleeding, and confusion stacked as well is a btch.
