I just wish minipets didn’t automatically deposit into bank with the rest of my mats. I don’t carry invisible bags but apparently I need one just for my minipet. Better if they needed to be manually deposited.

I remember devs saying they feel they’ve covered all the major bases with the 7 classes we have. They’d rather add new skills and traits for the existing classes than add new ones for the sake of a new class.
Sweet. I must be ahead of the game, since my copy of GW2 has 8 classes.
No, it’s just Rangers are completely superfluous and unnecessary, haven’t you heard?
How a typo becomes comedy gold.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The 2 pics khani posted are VERY different. Could there be events that need to trigger in order for it to appear?

Not having a Legendary isn’t quite so bad for players like me, whose main is an asura engineer. I’d only see it 25% of the time and it’d be 1/2 sized anyhow.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I dont have any troubles in orr.
The OP simply has to look around him/her. It’s your own fault for bumping into a champion boss mob.
If you paid a little attention you could have:
1. Dodge away
2. Run around the champion
The point is that a player shouldn’t have to avoid content, but rather be able to do it with a small group (proper scaling) and receive a decent reward compensatory to the effort. Obviously, you’re gonna get stomped by an Orr champ solo. But the encounters should scale properly and the attacks shouldn’t be one-shots. As someone above put it, dungeon mechanics and DE mechanics shouldn’t be the same. Dungeons can be learned. But DEs are fluid, evolving, scaling and getting hit for 25,000hp in a couple seconds is ludicrous.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ah that’s another thing. According to /age my time played is far less than many fellow forum posters. Despite what my wife thinks, I haven’t played nearly enough.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I was addressing the OP Kopper.
Edited my post to clarify.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Nope. I’ve been playing since early-launch and I’ve probably spent about $60 on gems, mostly for more character slots. I love no sub fee, since some months I don’t get to clock nearly the hours I’d like to in-game and I didn’t play at all for 3 months at the beginning of the year.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m like you OP, playing at my own pace. Unfortunately, I am also an altoholic and have 8 characters, 4 of them at 80. And I didn’t get my first 80 until at least 4-5 months after I started playing (BWE 2). I enjoy playing all professions & creating new characters. Since I don’t always play my main, but often goof around on level 40s, I’m not making nearly the gold I could be. I’m not poor but have no Ascended or Legendaries. I’ve often thought about investing some time into grinding away toward one, but then I get sidetracked having fun actually playing and I can’t bring myself to do it. Meh….
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
To OP:
You want to be on top of a leaderboard, it’s going to take a time investment.
You want to have fun playing your game, stop worrying about a meaningless leaderboard.
I can understand if you were in the top 10, wanting to keep your place. But really, what does being #516 earn you? Bragging right? No. Loot? No. Satisfaction? Doesn’t sound like it.

The armor in GW were great. I’d love to see some new stuff in GW2 that uses those as inspiration. And especially the dervish transformations. They were awesome.
Also, anime has some incredible armors that could be drawn from for ideas. Obviously, there are a lot of anime with completely unrealistic (mostly female) armor that are just skimpy excuses for clothes. GW2 seems to be delving more & more into steampunk designs and anime sure has a lot of that for inspiration.
The Final Fantasy game series has always had some amazing armors. They are never straight pant, jacket, shirt, boots but rather layers of sleeves and armor and hanging fabric and asymmetrical wraps and such. So unique.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Going off the map on reddit that shows a convergence in the Shivers..
Is it possible the Priory is setting these as a way of studying the effects the dragons had on each area. If in fact they plot a course of the various dragons’ carnage, then it seems logical. Especially after what we’ve learned from the asura storyline about the relationship between dragons and magic.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Charrzooka. Mortar is buggy crap.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
That’s strange Krassix, since I find Engi to be one of the more interesting, unique, and dynamic classes, while Warrior remains very vanilla and boring to play.
Gratz to Stubie and welcome to the world of Engineer!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Use Lightening Hammer & Frost Bow conjures. LH deals incredible damage. FB heals and keeps you at distance.
5pts in Water gives you constant regen while in that attunement, so stay in water when using your conjures.
Glyph of Storms in earth attunement is a monster for survival; recurring aoe blinds.
You could totally grab both summon elemental glyphs, storms glyph, and healing glyph with Quick Glyphs in air for near perma-summons (meat shields), faster healing, and blindness all around. That with a Frost Bow will probably keep you alive beautifully.
Hmm…I’m gonna try that.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Dungeon runs. And if you want to increase your MF% run Frostgorge or Queensdale champ trains for salvagables. You’ll get MF essences and mats to sell on the TP.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Found one in Malchor’s Leap last night. Touched it twice. Both times I got pushed back, no damage, and got a text box that said “can’t you read?”
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Correct. After Dec 10 we won’t even have access to IP so you probably will have 10pts to put wherever your build is lacking. If it’s defense, you’ve got Protection Injection & Protective Shield for instance. Exploit Weakness for more control or chase downs.
@Mork: if you’ve got 10 pts left, there are far better traits to take. SD will literally hit your target 5% of the time since none of your toolbelts are targeted abilities. Better to take Speedy Kits for swiftness, especially if you’re going to be using bombs.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
(edited by Seras.5702)
Since ToolKit is our only true melee option, I’d like to see a trait or 2 that allows it to become a primary kit rather than a utility kit. With such hard hitting auto and prybar, it’d be neat to have a trait that modifies something like how Power Wrench gives Smack a cripple. But TK has a magnet pull, cripple in it’s aa chain, and a cripple with #2. Can we get something else that would augment Magnet to add a condition (weakness?) and increase the bleeds of BoN? This would keep us safer in melee range and also put condition pressure on a target.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Regarding Defense: SD builds can use skills like Rocket Boots for escape/chase movement and Goggles for a stun break. Adds a little defense. Also, with traits like Sitting Duck and Hair Trigger, you’ve got Net Shot on an 8s cooldown, dishing out immob & cripple for awesome control. ToolKit is always used and it has a 3s block every 20s. And since you’re going 30pts into Tools, you can grab Adrenal Implant for +50% endurance regen, meaning more dodges.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I never use turrets. I guess removing the RNG from Grenade Barrage is good. Only thing I really like is the buff to Throw Wrench. 4 more stacks of vuln for my SD build is a-ok by me.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Engi have a ton of builds. What are you using in dungeons that feels meh? Try something else. I know grenades/bombs are the (supposedly) most effective builds, but I prefer FT so it might be a case of you playing with a kit you dislike.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Also, Charr run on all fours….ugh.
They dont if you use skills which means they run 99% of time on two legs.
When fighting, sure. But open world & WvW roaming, ugh all fours.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea I’ve been a proponent of tolerance for Scarlet for a while now. I’ve felt that her character isn’t awful, just that it was poorly executed. How her character can too easily be dismissed as an evil-for-the-sake-of-evil-insane-villain but upon closer inspection is more than that.
However…
It’s just getting ridiculous how her hands are in literally everything. She’s smart, but can she really be that influential, that omnipresent? No…and while I’m sure the players’ feelings toward Scarlet are mixed, I’d have to guess the resounding majority is sick of her. And yet she continues to crop up, laugh maniacally, & then escape without effort. Can we have a new villain? Can problems arise that aren’t her handywork? After all, even Gotham had more than 1 villain. And Metropolis. And…Detroit.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hopefully this just means they’ve figured out how to skin cultural armors onto other races. So maybe we’ll see gem store versions of the other culturals that are wearable on all races.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d like to see a button in threads with red posts that let’s us jump to the next dev post. Often, these are the larger threads so trying to find the dev’s (s) amid 15 pages of posts can become cumbersome. I’ve seen it in forums for other MMOs and it’s very handy.
Thanks.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think the grenade radius is already quite large, especially at long range. To increase it doesn’t make much sense, especially because there are better traits to take anyway.
I do agree though that if they’re going to move IP up to Master, then they need to make some of the adepts more attractive, but for non-grenade/non-bomb users too. Right now IP is taken by every build that has an extra 10 trait points because of its awesome damage boost. Without it in, say a FT or SD build, something else is needed to compensate.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Asura. Most armor looks awful on Charr. I’ll admit, the gasmask looks better on Charr than Asura though. But the kits look better on Asura. Also, Charr run on all fours….ugh.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Mobility is key. Learn to dodge, especially the attacks with obvious windups. Generally, the longer the windup, the more it’s gonna hurt. Stay outa red circles.
As for bombs, I’ve never been very good with them. Their fuse delay & melee range make movement difficult. I prefer flamethrower (FT) or grenades. You can trait into FT at a much earlier level too, making it comparatively stronger than ’nades at lvl 40.
Take note of your abilities in addition to damage. FT has knockback & aoe blind, which will keep you alive. Your shield has a block and knockback. Your rifle has a knockback. Your pistol has a bouncing blind. You’ve got gadgets like Rocket Boots that can blast you outta trouble. Learn what skills get you out of those “oh crap” moments and use em.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you want brainless spammy look at other classes, Ele at least needs a set order to be most effective.
This is how I view “spamming” skills too. To me, it’s either just blowing all your skills (mindlessly) or sitting back in autoattack (mindlessly). If you do either of the aforementioned things with Ele, you will die quickly, having done nothing productive.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I like the LB better.
But the Dreamer looks terrible compared to the beautiful Kudzu.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Well, any bomb or grenade build will stack vulnerability like a baws, grenades especially. Bring along elixirs with HGH and 409 to stack might and cleanse respectively.
FT/EG is a great team support build. It doesn’t dish out the mad damage like bombs/nades, but it can stack might really well, burst heal your party, and aoe cleanse too.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Flixx Gatebuster (asura)
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Probably just a matter of mind-set Kyotee. I main an engi so I know what kit cycling is like. But you know what each kit can do, and you swap to them as each moment dictates the skills needed. Likewise, each Ele attunement has its own specific roles.
Think of water attunement as your medkit, offering healing, cleansing, and some offensive utility.
Think of fire as your grenade/bomb kits, dishing out aoe damage and conditions.
Think of earth as your TK (sorta), giving you defense and control (and also bleeds).
Think of air as uh….single target, blinds, stun, swiftness….so FT maybe?
Anyway, you get the idea. Each attunement has its niche. The main difference is that Ele’s skills tend to have much longer CDs than Engi’s and the autoattacks are lackluster, so you’ll be swapping attunements more often than you’d swap kits for access to skills off CD, but of course attunements have cooldowns, unlike kits, so you can only swap so fast. Lol….now I feel like I’ve made it more confusing, not less.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You haven’t done fractals at all and you are telling me to “earn it”?
My experience or lack thereof with any facet of a game does not effect you having to earn your fractal levels. If I wanted to attain the same thing, I’d have to earn it as well.
I’m not being snide, I’m issuing the same challenge Anet has. The devs have added a new facet to fractals. For those proud of exceeding the previous soft-cap of 50, they can now be proud of earning their way to the cap with the added challenge of Mistlock Instabilities.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
And it’s fine to make stuff meaningless?
It’s fine to add challenges and new fractals for players asking for new permanent content, especially when the current content is being played by some to a degree that the devs didn’t expect (ex: lvl 70 fractals).
You’re stuck on the word meaningless and not on the fact that new stuff has been added and your progression through the old is =/= to your progression in the new. Earn it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
This update might bring a ton of 1st time fractalers out. Which means we’ll be able to run these things and learn them with other like-minded players, not worrying about vets being impatient. Or we’ll have some helpful vets show us the way, thus increasing the pool of knowledgeable fractalers. I’m looking forward to it.
Also, the account-bound fractal level means I can try out various characters to see how I like to play em.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t fractal yet, but don’t the changes they’re making to the fractals essentially make your levels meaningless now anyway? I mean, you earned 50+ in the old fractals…these new fractals with Instabilities are a different animal. Technically, you’ve earned 0 fractal levels with the new Mistlock Instabilities so you’re losing nothing. Have to earn your way to the top of these now.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I agree the delayed skills need tooltips to indicate their length. But…
You changed the functionality of Scepter’s Lightening Strike from an instant cast, no delay, single target spike to instant cast, delayed, aoe attack.
You made Arcane Blast & Arcane Wave delayed instead of instant.
Good luck hitting anything with delayed attacks. And the delay to AW makes might stacking harder. I don’t understand.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Seems Anet has this belief that nerfing a particular line that is “overused” is the way to broaden build variety. They’ve said that they feel certain traits in Arcane are very attractive and should thus be moved to Master to warrant their strength. But in actuality these traits are taken because they’re useful for more than 1/4 of our skills and are unique enough that they can add new shape to a build. I’d say the fix is to buff the traits in other lines that are underused to make them more attractive to invest in those lines.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t understand why you’ve added delays. It’s already hard enough to hit with Dragon’s Tooth and skills like it. More delays just mean more time for enemies to run/dodge away.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Condition builds are not often viable for dungeons due to 25 stack caps. If you are the only condition build in your group (which you can’t ensure in pugs) then it’s not bad. But condition HGH pistol builds are designed for PvP.
If you really like the rifle, I suggest a Rifle/SD build. It’s designed around the Static Discharge trait (SD) and can pump out some very nice burst. The idea is to pair jumpshot and blunderbuss with unloading your toolbelt skills on your target. Sample build below:
Last 10 trait pts to your liking; either Explosives V for offense or whatever you want for defense. Change Sitting Duck to Rifle Mod for bosses. Swap Rocket Boots and Rifle Turret as needed; I prefer RB for the escape and hard hitting Kick, but many prefer the range and low CD on the turret’s toolbelt.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you’re loading up on all those elixirs and not bringing HGH it’s a waste imo. You can stack might very well. I’m assuming you’re also traiting 30 into Firearms to buff your rifle since that’s the only thing you have that deals damage. Remember to always throw elixir B for stability before using rifle#4.
When running an HGH build, most people go either with bombs or grenades because they deal more damage than rifle, or they go pistol/pistol condition spec (but not in dungeons obviously). I’m assuming you’re using rifle because you like the playstyle and not for max damage. You’ll got much more damage and utility by dropping an elixir (probably U) and bringing grenade or bomb kit.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Definitely experiment with the weapon options jazz, but I agree with Jorno that S/D is your best bet for leveling. Dagger forces melee range and staff is more of a support or aoe weapon, which is less useful for soloing. Scepter also has some decent burst, which will let you drop baddies fast before they can even reach you.
With S/D, I like to start a fight swapping into fire (for the fury with Arcane 5 trait) and then opening up with a salvo. If they’re still alive, I swap to air for more fury, the blind and spike. Still alive? Into earth for more fury, another blind, increased defense (since they’re on top of you for sure now), and an aoe knockdown blast. Nothing in open world is alive now. Rather than waiting for weapon cooldowns, just swap into the next hardest hitting attunement and continue attacking.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I too was overwhelmed the first time I tried Ele and quickly deleted it. That happened twice now that I think about it.
The key to understanding attunement swapping is to know what you want to achieve. That was a poorly constructed sentence, but what I mean is that each attunement focuses on a few specific jobs.
Fire – aoe damage, burns
Air – (mostly) single target damage, blinds, stuns, speed
Water – heals, cleanses, chills
Earth – condition damage, defense
Understand this and you’ll know when to swap attunements. Also, it’s important to memorize what every skill does so there’s no waffling. So for instance…
Attacking in fire, crap here comes an attack, swap to earth and boost defense, swap to water and heal, chill foe, swap to air and gain some swiftness to open up some distance, swap to fire to continue attacking.
See how each attunement can be used to fulfill specific roles?
Also, memorize the fields & finishers on each skill. You can very easily drop a fire or water field and pop multiple blast finishers across a couple attunements for might or heals.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I haven’t been following along the conversation, of which there are pages and pages of posts. But have the devs given a reason why they’re resetting all progress back to 30? I’m sure they’re doing it because they think it’s a good idea (whether it is or isn’t) so I’m curious what that reason is.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
As Karizee said, there’s a glut of content at the moment.
New content every 2 weeks keeps things fresh, but I feel that it often detracts from the core game. I think that every so often Anet needs to release a patch that is a return to the norm, a calm between storms, a breather. Removing all LS content like they do when one patch ends but not introducing another. Let the game lie fallow for a week to entice players to play the core game (dungeons, fractals, world events, Orr, etc). Perhaps they can do this when they make changes to various reward systems. When they released the new champ boxes would be a good example of when to do this.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Thank you all for making the first CDI topic discussions such a good start. The next phase as mentioned at the start of the initiative is for us to discuss how we could better evolve the process around CDI. The key areas for me personally are as follows and based on my interactions on the PVE thread:
1: More focused Topics.
2: Summaries of discussion/direction every three pages.
3: More time to post.
Please know the expectation isn’t for you to list your top three, this is just how I did it. This is a discussion primarily and next Monday I will post the actions so we can evolve the CDI best working practices immediately.
Thanks again for your involvement,
Chris
Regarding your 3 listed above: I don’t think a more focused topic is required, since the last CDIs evolved nicely thanks to broad topics and lots of input. Summaries every few pages would be helpful since the conversation does progress quite quickly. Active discussion with devs always spurs the traffic of threads. The time to post I think was good. The last CDIs covered a lot of ground, felt progressive, and didn’t dissolved into worthless banter due to the thread outlasting its usefulness.
