I’d love to have these paper bag hats. They’re goofy, but I want them since they’re not town clothes but actual armor skins.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You probably just never noticed it before because chaos armor is very visually obvious, while a stack of might for instance isn’t.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
With respect to the final boss:
Fight at range
Bring condition cleansing
That’s all ya really gotta pay attention to. I’ve done this on both my engi & my thief and had a MUCH easier time with my engi because of being able to fight at range. My thief, on the other hand, was forced to cleanse & heal like a madman. If you’ve got some knockback or launch skills, use those to knock the champ out of the big red circle he stands in. Otherwise, meleeing will chew you up fast.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So, what hoops do I need to jump through to get one of these transcribers?
:(
Go to Kessex.
Do the solo instance.
Talk to Dolja.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ve heard even the Frostgorge champ-train works for this, but I haven’t tried it to comfirm.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
<snip> ….. enslavement lore, which should not be promoted in this era.
A lore argument I can respect, even if I don’t agree with it. But this last line just negated everything above it for me, making it seem as if it’s some socialogical issue that relates to real life. We’re fighting dragon minions and dredge. Those are/were slaves. Not to mention, telling a dog to fetch or sit isn’t treating them like slaves. If it really helps you, don’t think of them as commands, but rather as requests for an ally to aid you.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I have a brand new level 20 (ty scroll) Elementalist. I like the idea of using the conjured weapons and would like to do so as I level. Is there any advice for doing so? I’m guessing grab the 1 conjure weapons trait at level 40 (didn’t there use to be another trait?). Which conjure weapons work best? What utilities and weapons supplement well?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You mentioned 7 things in addition to the achievements. Se7en!! Not to mention you forgot about the new craftable sigil and food and rune sets. And the home node. So 9 things. And it’s a free update. And we still have Halloween going on. Which we only got 2 weeks ago. And we haven’t even gotten into the Tower yet!
Are you seriously complaining about free stuff?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
In WvW zergs, this skill will probably do rather amazing… have enough organization and enough casts, can keep a full zerg healthy for a long time. Zerg of 40 would mean that only 8 people would have to cast it to receive a 4000 heal, staggered over 6 seconds each you’re essentially getting 4000 health and curing 3 conditions every 6 seconds.
It heals only you. Only condition cleansing is AoE.
You sure?! :O I coulda sworn I was being healed by a party member’s
You do heal others, when conditions are removed, the heal from the converted conditions heals in an AoE.
Exactly. Baseline heal is only to self. Heals per condition removed are aoe.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Must..have….gasmask…for engineer…..
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Are there any professions where this skill is truly beneficial?
On my engineer it’s pretty pointless outside of the event toxin. Are there any professions that really benefit from this heal/cleanse skill?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m assuming asura technobabble toolbelt would be huge for confusion/perplexity builds in WvW.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Sure, +condition damage stats will help FT. That’s obvious. Every stat will help. But to intentionally sacrifice power for condition damage is a very bad decision whenusing the FT. It has 1 condition…that doesn’t stack intensity. And while you’ll probably proc a couple bleeds, it’s not enough to warrant gearing for condition damage. The point of burning on the FT is to a) boost the damage to burning foes, making it more complex than just spray & pray and b) as a fire field to stack might. Nobody will stand in that giant field.
Obvously, you can gear for whatever you want. But if someone is asking specifically what gear to get for FT, answering with condition-based gear is bad information.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
She’s got a golden tongue. Her MO, as has been mentioned, is to forge alliances to serve her own goals. It’s a brilliant strategy, to manipulate others to do your own dirty work. And being as intelligent as she is, can concieve of the desires of groups in order to leverage them into an alliance. Each group believes they will attain something that they want. It’s just manipulation with foresight and no problems with treachery and backstabbing if it becomes necessary.
She’s smart. Finding something lost (like an obelisk shard) is something one who studies stuff could do. She recognizes what tool she’ll need to manipulate the Krait and sets out to find it. It’s probably where she’s been since she last disappeared.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m wondering if it needs Healing Power to be good. I don’t know how it scales. But in zerker gear, I get much better actual healing from all of my profession-specific heals. If it didn’t take up a heal slot, it’d be a great condition cleanse utility.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I bought it for my main engi. Compared to the other amazing heals I have, this one is extremely lackluster. The condition cleanse is nice, but the heal is way too low. I have other condition cleanse options. But this takes up a heal slot. No thank you.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d like to add that this recent LS update is a step in the right direction. I like seeing impactful changes to the world. Scarlet has forged an alliance and it has changed Kessex Hills. Even after this event, I’m hoping to see a continuation of this concept. Perhaps (if we win) the smoking hulk of what remains of the tower, still housing disgruntled Krait. Perhaps a scar of toxic destruction carving through Kessex and into an adjoining zone before the end. Despite the win, there’s still lasting damage done to Tyria and new DEs arise because of it.
This is my hope when playing through this latests LS release. It’s a good step in that direction that will truly create a Living World where our actions and the dangers we face shape Tyria.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Hooray…I hate fighting underwater. And the engineer toolbelt of this is awful underwater.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
If you’re in Orr…yea, this always frustrates me. If you’re not in Orr…where are you? I haven’t seen a zone with that many contested WPs in quite some time.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
…wonderful
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
My main engi has it and it’s a complete waste for that profession. So the big question is: are there any professions that will truly benefit from having this skill?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Not to mention that it doesn’t heal for crap w/o healing power. If I need a condition cleanse, I have Elixir C. If I need a heal, it won’t be this thing.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
You can always just continue to DPS until they are dead instead of using a finisher…
Don’t they get an “Invulnerable” icon though when downed?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yea I haven’t completely grasped the mechanics of the toxin and this spray. I ran toward the tower once and it suddenly stacked on me hard, knocking off big chunks of health. Cleanse and suddenly it’s on me again.
Another time I ran at the tower and nothing…no toxin.
Also, does it feel like it does pitiful healing?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Nope, it’s in case you wanna do it again. If you did it, move on. Unless you like solo instances with snazzy cutscenes.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Or was he performing a finisher?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Personally, I’m glad for the change. Nothing inherently wrong with the old Kessex Hills. But this is what we’ve needed. A progression of zones based on a Living Story. We need to have events that feel impactful. Everyone complains about Scarlet coming, running amok, fleeing, and then everything is as it was. Now there’s going to be change. The world is affected. Good. Something new.
If Anet keeps this up and continues to have the dangers we face impact the world and our efforts be reflected in the world, then I’m all for it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yep, as soon as I saw the achievement list for this event I broke out the pen & paper. This time, there are 3 achievements to track!! Global, Obelisks, and Krait Witches. Admittedly, the witches are easy enough to remember without needed p&p but still.
They even list them in the expanded achievement panel…why not strike them out when they’re accomplished??
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I liked it. Made me laugh. I think lines like this are fine when sporadically peppered into the game, not made the norm.
Also, are Marjory & Kasmeer lovers? I get that vibe.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I was surprised at first when I saw the Mortal Kombat tag line appear in my personal instance. But I got used to it quickly. Being a player who’s spent a grand total of <5 hours playing PvP or WvW, I’m not a fan. It doesn’t work in PvE. You’ve either got a zerg, which completely trivializes a downed state and makes it a crap-shoot if you’ll get credit for the finisher. Or, in the case of solo roaming or the personal instance, you’re leaving yourself vulnerable to surrounding mobs for a couple seconds to stomp. Now I have to learn PvP tactics to cover stomps in PvE. It makes the PvE combat more complex, but I don’t know yet if it’s a good idea.
If it’s only temporary to let PvE-ers use the Halloween finishers then I’m ok with it. Good thining Anet.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I would like to see a continuation of our hero’s journey, to combat more dragons, and an evolving world that reflects our efforts.
I think it’s a majority concensus that the pre-Orders personal story was the best part of it because it felt, well…personal. I’d like to continue that personal journey.
The dragons are supposedly the most important evil right now. It’s what’s drawn an uneasy truce amongst the humans and Charr. It’s the basis of 2 of the GW books (and the catalyst to the 3rd). It feels like we’re ignoring them atm. I’d like to continue to fight the super-evil.
We’ve been questing throughout Tyria for over a year now. We’ve defended outposts, helped farmers, defeated centaur leaders, and fought with countless dragon minions. Yet we’ve seen no reflection of our efforts. I’d like to see some sort of change to the zones in Tyria that introduce new DEs, begin a healing change to Orr, witness an aggresive push by Jormag’s minions, something to make me feel like my efforts are truly pivotal to the world.
Right now the Living World does not feel like it is evolving. Since launch, nothing in the world has changed based on the Living Story except a single dungeon path in TA. We’ve had the addition of a single area, Southsun Cove. I was initially very excited about this area, but it has had no evolution and serves merely as the arena for large scaled LS events.
LS chapters feel like temporary acheivement rushes right now. We spend 1-2 weeks racing to unlock the achievements, get the meta, and then complain about the temporary content. I’d rather see an evolution of the game as a whole, rather than constant little events that force everyone to zerg an area for 2 weeks and then return to life as usual. It trivializes the content too.

Shiny one is too cliched.
Dark one looks better.
Dark needs new boots though. They look very out of place.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think that Anet should, with each LS update, add just a little more of Orr healing. Just a beach to start…which spreads further inland. Then another coast or tiny island. Perhaps a single temple spreading some healing, and revamping that particular temple’s event chain to a defend rather than attack style.
Over time, we’d see the fruits of our victory against Zaihtan. Then, when Anet finds the time is right, release a LS patch that is focused on the healing of Orr and big changes and a progression to the next chapter in our war against the dragons.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Like others above, I too have gotten so used to Speedy Kits that I find myself popping my heal with other characters for a boost. While some professions have a no brainer signet or passive trait to run fast, our Speedy Kits is so good just about every build takes it.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Celestial gear is potentially the best gear. Because If you want to use FT. You will be doing condi damage.
…
No, actually. Power is better for FT.
…just remember that the majority of your damage will be coming from Flame Blast and not burning, so stack Power and not Condition Damage.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Firstly, Forceful Explosives doesn’t benefit grenades, so you can change that to Shrapnel or Incendiary Powder.
Secondly, I’ve never seen a successful FT & grenade combo build. If you’re only bringing FT for its utility (aoe blind & knockback & fire field) then Juggernaut is a waste anyway. Especially because 1/2 of its benefit is only realized by staying in it to let the might stack. Better to take Deadly Mixtures to benefit EG as well. However, again if neither FT nor EG are being used for damage but rather as utility, then what’s the point of taking either of those traits? You’re in full celestial I see, so I’m guessing a power/condition hybrid? I’m trying to figure out your playstyle with this build.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’ll tell you what I’m doing and it’s working beautifully. I can drop champs solo and with ease. And I can take on groups without any problems too.
Start with this
Gear for conditions. Between Caltrops, your dodge-trops from the Trickery line, and spamming Death Blossom, you’ll be throwing out some serious aoe bleeds. Then you can just kite away and watch things melt.
Same gameplan, but as you level, trait like this
Your last 10 pts place to your liking. But this will keep you alive, give you plenty of stealth, and keep your endurance up for more dodgetrops. And with the added traits you can swap Shadow Refuge for Skale Venom for more condition damage.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Seems like half the people who hate Scarlet do so because Anet poorly introduced her. She appeared suddenly, we had no previous knowledge of her, and we had to hunt online for her backstory. That’s not a flaw of the character, but of the devs for bad storytelling. She’s an intelligent villain, with a clear goal, psychotic, infuential, far reaching, and brazen. She’s far from vanilla. There are only so many ideas out there, and crafting a new villain is bound to create similarities with villains from other places (Harley Quinn, Moriarty, etc). But that alone doesn’t make her a Villain Sue kitten many people call her. I think Scarlet is a fine villain, just that Anet’s portrayal of her and storytelling need work. Also, she’s one sylvari vs. an elder dragon and its minions…you can see where we’d feel let down. It seems our roles as heroes has taken a step backwards. Her villainous work needs to come to fruition soon or we’re going to sail to Cantha ourselves for a decent fight.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
With nothing datamined, this could be completely intentional. Maybe Anet’s take on the mysterious area in the lake and coming tower. Playing up the mystery…and an attempt to keep us from critiquing their content before it’s even released.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I actually think she’s a decent villain but has just had her story told poorly. You have to hunt online for her bio and each new chapter comes crawling out slowly. Just poor execution.
Also, the game began with a minor hero (us) overcoming our personal quests and then progressing onto pulling the Pact together to take on a dragon. After that, a single clever sylvari is just going to feel like a nuisance. We’ve been reduced to beat cops. I’d like to get back to saving the world from dragons and the epic lore that Guild Wars brought us. No matter how clever Scarlet is, it just seems lame compared to stories of undead armies, fallen gods, dragons, and titans.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@Clumsy: Forgive my ignorance, I’ve only been thieving for a little while, but 25/30/0/15/0 & 25/30/0/0/15 & 25/30/10/0/5 just isn’t all that descriptive, especially when comparing them in detail. You specify when to use them, but not what traits they include or the weapon sets. Could you be a bit more specific for me please? I’ll be 80 within the week and would love to understand the ins & outs of endgame PvE thief.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Yes to 2-hand battle axe.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Imo, if you need to sub in a piece of Assassin to boost your crit% a little, it’s cool. Generally though, Berserker.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Imo, if you’re having trouble hitting 50% crit then you can sub some Assassin gear. But Berserker is better in general.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Minions make PvE leveling EZ-mode. They have improved health now and you get a nearly always-on elite. Plus, flesh golem and the ranged minion (bone?) have immobs that can help to keep you from getting beat on.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Mesmer’s mobility problem is that it doesn’t have a permanent or semi-permanent speed boost for faster travel. However, it’s got great combat mobility. And it is mainstream. It’s one of the 3 more desirable professions in dungeons atm. However, it’s also not a faceroll profession like warrior or guardian. So there’s that.
I’m a big fan of the engineer. Yes, it has a small weapon selection and no swapping. However, its kits make it incredibly dynamic and offers more variability than any other profession. Nobody will argue with your aesthetic sentiments regarding the hobosacks that we’re forced to wear with kits. But word is they’re working on it. We’ll see. Also, if you like conditions, engi is one of the best. True story.
Necro has more to offer than just scepter and dagger. The other weapons though, tend to be more direct damage focused rather than conditions. And staff is like a staple offset. I think the solution to any profession that starts to feel dull is to completely change builds and try something new. Same thing actually happened to me with necro and it made all the difference.
Engieneer, mesmer, and elementalist may the 3 highest skillcap professions. They may come to you easily, but mastering them is the real challenge.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Only ranger has a permanent pet
Necros can have minions though. Also, there is no scythe in this game. There is a necro staff skill that makes your staff look like a scythe while casting. And there is a super expensive scythe skin for staff available to buy.
Warriors can stand in the fray and beat on things all they like. They can use swords and greatswords.
Guardians are more defensive, but can still stand toe-to-toe with an enemy.
Only mesmers and guardians can use greatswords, swords, and staves.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It was probably instituted to prevent a massive swarm of Celestial Gear when it was first introduced. Now though, the time-gate is unnecessary. It’s just another stat allocation and should be limited by the same constraints as all the others.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It’s an attempt to prevent the creation of gold-generating from items that aren’t obtained with gold. Anything bought with kama or badges or tokens…these can’t be resold or salvaged into things that can be resold to prevent farming a non-gold currency to generate gold. If there is an exception to that rule, it’s because Anet deemed it not a viable way to exploit the market.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
