I’m just so sad that my GW account was hacked years ago, after I stopped playing. When I logged in to see what HoM stuff I had, I realized I had nothing left. 400k+, tons of rare weapons, multiple armor sets, crafting mats aglore, mini-pets, everything…gone. I’d love to get my hands on whoever hacked me, that’s for sure. I was lucky enough to still earn a few HoM points just for things I’d already achieved. But I was too disheartened to try to play again to earn anything more.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I got bored with my guardian. Yes, it’s highly valued in WvW and dungeons, but I just got too bored to go on.
Mesmer is cool, but I felt like I never used my utilities while leveling. They’re primarily used in dungeon situations and PvP. Just my take.
Thief is my fav of the 3 you listed. While the worst of the bunch for group support, they deal great damage, are viable in PvP and PvE, offer a wide range of playstyles, and have a dynamic feel that you don’t get bored with easily.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
… In any event it didn’t happen and I doubt now that it ever will. Perhaps you should elect an unofficial leveling server and see if it gets any momentum behind it.
Alternatively I would simply recommend TC, i guest there sometimes just because your more likely to have one of those ‘WTH’ moments while your questing.
I’ll have to check out the server populations. TC is a good server but it’s good because it’s highly populated. If an Unofficial Leveling Server is to gain any traction, it needs to be on one with low pop so-as not to run into queues, overflow, or interfere with the local server population. I wouldn’t want a repeat of the Tequat’l incidents of thousands of players guesting to Blackgate, only to have native BGers unable to log into their own server.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m hoping the LS evolves into an extension of the original gameplay rather than a temporary sidequest. Which means that eventually they can open up the Crystal Desert via a series of 2 week events that lead to a brand new group of permanent desert zones in an attempt to begin an offensive against Kraky. Much like Orr, they’d be level 80 zones.
They can do this with the northern Shivers too, against Jormag.
I don’t think they excluded these areas due to laziness. I think they were trying to be far-sighted and plan for the future. If you unlock the whole world at once, it gets stale at once. If you start with a large chunk, and then as we defeat a dragon, continue to unlock more areas, we get new permanent content every x months/years. That’s how I’d do it anyway.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
+1 I’ve been saying this for months. We need more armor that drops from actual gameplay. The original dungeon token armors were a great idea, it got people into dungeons. But now those armors are 1yr old and people want new stuff. We need armor pieces that drop in dungeons, that drop from specific bosses, from specific zones.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
He should have every precursor equipped and use them at random. Have a phase or 2 where he pulls out 1 precursor at random and his attacks are based on the weapon type. Whenever he pulls a new precursor out he laughs at you and says “Is this what you’re after?” or “Jealous much?” or “Mine, all mine!!” or “Ever seen one of these before?”
This needs to be done. I can see Anet doing this next April Fools instead of another SAB. People would mob Big-Z and demand it be made a permanent fixture.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
+1 – My little engi is half hidden. And those poor charr, made to look like freaks. They dwarf the norn next to them.
Also, bring back beta log-in screen.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Agreed. Never understood why they’d make the most expensive pure-gold purchased armor rare quality. A skin would be right on.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
So you just want pointy ears? Roll a human, give em long hair that covers their ears, pretend. I like that GW2 doesn’t follow the cliche elf, ogre, human, dwarf motif. The races have plenty of similarities to those classics, but with enough flair to make them unique imho.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d like to see the Dwarves come back. New areas of Tyria are explored and we discover a new Dwarven civilization far to the north/south/east/west. They are unaware of their stone brethren but bring new magics and knowledge.
Tengu would be cool too, no doubt. But they have to design them like they were in GW. The few Tengu seen in GW2 look like scrawny, squat chickens. They need to be warriors, not hunched-over & feathered WoW-trolls.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d have to agree with the above sentiments. Necro is easier, especially to level. Plenty of speed boosts & perma-minions to tank for you. Mesmer will offer more group support, while Necro really only shines when it comes to condition manipulation.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I did map completions as i was lvling and found other people were often a pain. Especially those hearts that are kill x enemys, and the enemies needed are few and far between. Add a bunch of people killing them, and it takes forever waiting for them to respawn. I do think it’s a good idea for a lvling train doing events, and lvling that way.
Please specify what heart you’re talking about. Almost all hearts have other activities to do. It’s also possible you just haven’t found other places to kill them.
True enough. There are a few hearts that require to search around a bit to find the area you’re to do task x,y,z. And it’s never just 1 thing, so it’s nice to be able to (for instance) set traps and gather supplies if you can’t find centaurs to kill.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Content scales pretty well with population though. So those hearts would have a faster spawn rate for the required “x enemy” as the number of players in the area rises.

As an altoholic, these things being soulbound is a real annoyance. I know they’re convenience items, but I’d love to have them on whichever character I’m spending the majority of my time with. I haven’t touched my main in a few weeks (who has all 3 of the original endless tools) and am enjoying some <80 alts. They’d love these tools!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Never heard of a short HS. What’s the advantage to that? I can see a short DB to keep from falling off cliffs. Is it so you can leap finisher in fields without a target?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’m not sure what you don’t like about that post. All he said was that they want to commit more time to responding to the community in the forums and that they don’t pay attention to insults or mean people. Furthermore, they stated very plainly that they strive to deliver stuff for the community as a whole, not just acquiesce to the loudest voices whining about this or that. Can’t blame them honestly.
Since you’re clearly upset that they won’t implement all of your ideas just cuz you type in CAPS or bold or with a lot of enthusiasm and find quitting the answer…can I have your stuff?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
No no no no no no no……..no!
Damage meters, even those that show your own, will eventually lead to required-dps-zerk builds that are required for speed runs and the like. The devs can use these meters to create balance, but I don’t want them in this game. What drew me to GW2 (and GW) was that it’s not like WoW. I don’t want to feel like I have to adhere to a cookie-cutter build or else get kicked.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Comparing raids to champtrains is stupid because raid bosses are nothing like champions. A more accurate comparison would be comparing raid bosses with world bosses. World bosses are basically raid-style bosses that aren’t locked inside an instance and have no player limit (other than the zone pop). You’re comparing apples & onions.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Well I do. Thieves are the only class without a 1200 range option and I feel that adding in longbow when we already have a shortbow would be a little redundant.
Anyway, I would also like to see a much better Sword/Empty set and perhaps wield the sword as though it was a greatsword.
I’d love to see something done to the empty sets. I’m not sure what though, considering any other profession that only equips a single 1h weapon doesn’t gain any additional benefit. But the sheer fact that we have a seperate #3 skill for our mh weps makes me wish for a #4 & #5, if only to take advantage of those skills. Anet created an empty hand #3 skill that literally nobody will ever use. Maybe make that skill super strong to counter the lack of a #4 & #5?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
My mistake. I was under the impression that dual-wield skills were treated seperately. So to clarify for me…
P/D #3 not affected by Ankle Shot?
D/P #3 not affected by Ankle Shot?
P/P #3 is affected by Ankle Shot?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Never has been a chest for eclipsing level 10. You probably leveled just as you completed something else before (like a champion, personal story, map completion, etc) and thought it was for hitting level 10.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I’d recommend posting in the Engineer thread too btw.
From what I understand, right now condition engis are super strong in PvP and WvW roaming.
They’re still quite viable in PvE too, being a jack of all trades. The turrets will be getting some much-needed love with the Oct 15 patch. Hopefully that will make them more viable in zerg and dungeon settings.
All in all, engi are a good choice because they’ll offer you a variety of play styles and will not become boring in the way warrior or ranger can. Don’t expect them to be as faceroll easy as your warrior & guardian experiences. They require more traits to bring out their strengths so don’t get discouraged at low levels if you feel underpowered. You’ll become a bouncing ball of explosions by the time you hit 60.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Traditionally, Raids were the way you grinded high end gear. I think the idea of a raid is unappealing to many because a traditional gear grind is unappealing. GW2 has raid bosses in the form of world bosses. They need to be retuned and offer better rewards than champs. As they are now, world bosses tend to be zerg fests that get downed rather quickly.
Champ trains on the other hand, are not challenging like a world/raid boss should be. And trains in areas like Queensdale let even low level players earn rewards. Champ trains are all about easy XP & loot bags.
Personally, I do the Queensdale champ farm from time to time with alts to gain fast XP. The problem lies in that it’s the fastest non-crafting way to level, but you end up with no WP & map reveals. As for Frostgorge, I only do that when I’ve got a few mins to play but not enough time to do anything of substance. May as well earn some gold with my time.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
@EragamerLG: Obviously, every profession can be played multiple ways. Personally though, I don’t need to have those weapons for my thief. I’m just saying that a stealthy thief class doesn’t make me think “ooh, rifles and torches and hammers!” And as far as GW assassins using the 2nd profession to wield magic…that’s a dual profession. So the assassin aspect couldn’t, but the mesmer aspect could. So thieves could use magic…if they weren’t just thieves but thief wizards. We’re not in GW2. In GW2 magic stealthy class = mesmer.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I think if you reset them you shouldn’t get any new currency for completing them. We have enough currencies. I think if you do them again you just get the same XP you would have the first time. No change. Otherwise, it’s exploitable.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
At first glance, I’d say it’s because you’re running a 32-bit version of Windows. I had this same problem too a few months back. GW2 needs a 64-bit OS to run properly, otherwise it runs out of memory or something.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
It would apply to mainhand (1-2) and offhand (4-5). Skill #3 is a dual-wield skill so it wouldn’t apply. Even if you’re running P/P.
As to whether you should use it……
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Leveling is necessary. But it need not be a long grind. And rather than feeling excluded until I hit the level cap, I instead feel I’ve earned the right to be where I am. Personally, I don’t think 80 levels are necessary, especially in a game that allows PvP & WvW from level 2. But, it’s a nice feeling of accomplishment knowing I’ve fought my way through the world ankitten ow ready for what awaits me in Orr.
As someone above mentioned, leveling is also a tutorial in a sense. Starting out of the box with an 80 you’d have no idea how to play it. You’ve feel overwhelmed and instead of easing into new skills and traits to figure out how they synergize, you’d be given the entire menu and forced to figure it out. It doesn’t sound like a fun way of doing it.
Plus, I like the feeling that I’ve made my character, it wasn’t just handed to me. For people who like the storylines and like to RP, starting with nothing and building your hero is important.
Starting out the box you can go to WvW and play, even if you never played the game before or know whats going on.
That tutorial argument is debunked from that alone.
On the contrary, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Out of the box, go right to WvW and see if you are even remotely effective, can contribute anything to your world, are anything other than a hindrance, or know anything about how your profession works. You can’t start a game anew and expect to understand the nuances of it right away. Even if you do roll a brand new ranger and immediately get the whole “I stand here and pew-pew and my pets goes there and ka-chewy chomps” you don’t understand which traits and weapons and playstyles work well together without playing for hours. In an effort to not bombard you with everything at once and ease you into the class, we’re given leveling.
It’s also a fun way to feel like you’re building a hero, rather than being handed a tool.
The one thing I’ll concede is that GW2 doesn’t need 80 levels. At 50-60 you’ve pretty much gotten your profession down.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
And a few pets have F2 skills that will stack might or fury, remove conditions, or give swiftness to the party for instance. They’re good for support.
mercury ranique hit the nail on the head with respect to rangers & warriors.
I will say that most professions offer a level of support, but I don’t think any do it as easily as guardian, warrior, and ranger. They almost have it built in, using banners and shouts and spirits naturally while leveling. Other professions, like necro or mesmer, have support potential too, but it’s generally specifically designed that way. At low levels, being supportive as a guardian, warrior, or ranger will be fairly easy for you.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I agree with you mercury. However, I feel like I should never have mentioned the Queensdale champtrain. It was an afterthought that’s derailed the purpose of this thread. The point I was trying to make wasn’t that we need a solution to Queensdale champtrains, but simply a solution to the problem of sparsely populated <80 zones. As many players may feel alone in say, Lornar’s Pass, a leveling server would be a place for <80 players to guest in hopes of more people being in those zones doing hearts & DEs together.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
While leveling, just grab gear that fills in any holes that you feel your build has. If you’re getting downed a lot, add some toughness & vitality. If you’re not dying but feel killing takes forever, take more power. It’s only at higher levels that gear becomes very important.
As you learn the combat mechanics and the ins and outs of warrior, you’ll learn how to avoid/mitigate damage, and thus will be able to use more offensive gear instead of defensive.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
No no, I am serious. I’m not saying to run away from Queensdale champ farmers. Simply that having an unofficial leveling realm where everyone gets together to do low level DEs and hearts together will indirectly result in a place that those champs trains will avoid.
I’m all for a dedicated overflow just for champ trains. They detract from actual gameplay.
It just got me thinking because I’ve read so many posts complaining that players feel alone out there and come across few players whilst leveling. Just thought that if you felt that way and knew that if you guested onto low pop server X you’d find a bunch of like-minded sub-80 questers.
Isn’t TC the unofficial RP server? People know that if they want RP they can go there. Sorta like that.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ok, so you’re saying something like this is going to be better for dungeons then?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Thanks for your input guys. I’m still only lvl 55 so I’m just theorycrafting here. No real experience to draw from (yet).
I figured using Steal every 19.75 secs would net me stealth, might, 5 initiative, vigor, boon steal, and daze. Seems almost OP to do all that with a 19s CD. Figured I could spam some Backstabs, use Steal to regen initiative, spam more Backstabs, then swap to sword for auto when I’m outa initiative and/or need a retreat.
Will I do better (both damage & survivability) not building around Steal and just focusing on damage? Seems like thieves are squishy when not properly built.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Offhand sword
Mainhand mace (sap)
Longbow for a long range option
Those are the only ones I’d like to see.
NO:
Focus, Scepter, Staff – we’re not magic users
Rifle, Warhorn – don’t want to announce my presence with loudness
Torch – don’t want to announce my presence by toting around a flame
Hammer, Greatsword – have a slow feel. Too bulky. We’re all about speed.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Ok, I used to be a little sad that my thief is norn and I was having a hard time finding good looking armor. This thread has changed my views. I can’t wait to hit 80!
@ Echo: what armor is that in your 2nd picture? He looks amazing!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Simplest change to the trait would be to make it enhance the duration of the stolen skill by 20%. So the stealth, the conditions, the boons, the gunk field, the knockdown, the daze durations all last longer. I think it’d be a great trait if it did that.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)

It’s all placebo effect & perception. I swear I get the opposite gear that I need more than anything else; but that’s just because there’s more you can’t use than that you can.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Utilize constant steal & stealths for backstabs + sword auto and lotsa blinds. Thoughts?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
just wait for the guesting to be implemented coz for sure that there will be one unoffical leveling server where lots of people from different server will congregate in and do chain dynamic events for leveling just like during the early months of the game.
This was posted back in like January and it made me wonder…is there an unofficial leveling server now that guesting is in full swing? I think it’d be pretty sweet to turn one of the low pop servers into this. It would give new players a community to play with dedicated to <80 DEs and group play. And it’d probably make room for the Queensdale champ runners.
Thoughts?

Lots of necro’s lately.
No joke. This thread is OLD.
Having said that…

Now that guesting has been around for quite some time, did this ever happen? Is there a server that’s an unofficial <80 leveling server? Cuz that’d be kinda sweet.

step 1 – stop mashing keys
step 2 – read the skill descriptions
step 3 – pay attention to what the enemies are doing
step 4 – pay attention to what other people are doing
step 5 – check the wiki

I got me a male norn thief. Couldn’t bring myself to go max size, being a thief and all. But you see a norn whirling over your head in a death blossom and you pucker a bit.
A little asura thief popping outta stealth right next to you…ooo creepy.
A giant norn popping outta stealth next to you = what the holy crippled christ where did he gaah!?!!
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
By neutral state, does that mean up for grabs to literally anyone? No matter the realm?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I don’t want my engineer to become a pet class.
Having said this, maybe we could incorporate this into a turret trait to have them fly, thus making them harder to kill. Perhaps, they can still be targeted as usual and are still succeptible to cleave, but won’t be hit by any ground targeted aoe.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Another thread suggested this item but it would unsoulbind an item and make it account bound.
