The US has far more time zones and tries to actively attract players from elsewhere in the world, even so night capping is an issue there, even if it isn’t as big an issue as in the EU.
Coupling EU with US servers and allowing players to ‘cross the atlantic’ free might help somewhat. A world channel might help too, you could call people specifically from your world to help in WvW.
It isn’t just the points system but the knock on effects. I have recently been on a border early, all of the keeps and towers had upgraded fully and a few defenders were able to keep us out all morning and most of the afternoon. When it looked like we might get in they called in their people from other borderlands.
As I believe it.
The dolyaks are being intercepted by enemies, you need these to get through as now the camp upgrades when the requisite number of dolyaks have arrived at their destination. It is no longer time based.
If you don’t get dolyaks through then the camp will not upgrade and the event fails. This is why the time limit was extended.
From game update notes January 26th> ‘Camps upgrade when caravans are delivered to another objective. Towers, Keeps and Castles upgrade when caravans arrive at their objective.’

Were you trying to salvage the armor you get off a newly made character?
That might be it. But then, why not simply make it unsalvageable, like the personal story rewards and karma gear?
Personally I think it would be better that it produced no materials rather than it not be salvageable.
For that matter I would prefer the same for the Karma stuff too, if need be making the runes account bound on acquire.
After claiming this buff my ranger is fireproof and can stand in lava having a nice bath without damage.
Unfortunately my pet is not given the same and keeps dying.
Any hope of fixing this sometime soon?
Yes, I know this has probably been reported a million times but I can hope.
Maybe, but it doesn’t state that, perhaps a little clarification would be useful?
Possibly, in 3 or 4 years, when they have totally kittened everything up, all the WvW players have got totally sick, left and nobody is in WvW any more…
Actually, as pointed out earlier, the new desert borderlands looks custom made for gliding, all you need is to stop people gliding into fortifications they don’t own. That could be achieved with infinite height screens, as in spawn and garrison, that open at sections of damageable wall. Screens would be one way, out, for attackers. Owners could be allowed to fly in too.
The 1 death = 1 rally should shut the ‘rallybot’ cries of the more excessive players. Not that rallybots really existed to the extent some claimed. One guild I was a member of for a few days thought you could rally a whole zerg of downed people off one death. Would have been much better if this had been publicized before now.
Stability? I’m a ranger, I don’t have stability.
Oasis event should have been changed far more drastically than just reducing the power cores needed. In the end surgical removal would be preferable.
Yellow mobs were not removed. In reality these just get in the way of fights.
Still no balance in WvW
quote Mark Katzbach, ‘WvW Capture and Hold guild missions have had their timers increased to 1 hour.’
I wonder who thought this would be a good idea? I know it’s to encourage holding onto stuff but I expect it will backfire. Most guilds don’t want to stand around in a tower for an hour twiddling their thumbs while looking over the wall.
Most PvE events take 10 minutes or less for the same reward. I hope the rewards for WvW are going to get seriously buffed to compensate. Some people claim to be able to earn 8 gold plus in PvE, so this seems a reasonable payment for our efforts.
Siege is actually fairly cheap, if you wait for the gluts and buy lots of it.
I agree they need to change the oasis event, the damage to doors from it is excessive. Worse this just makes it easier for the server with the most people to cap everything – it makes the already overpowered worlds even more powerful. Personally I would get rid of it and put something else there.
A seventh damaged and easily capped fortification would be useful. One that doesn’t upgrade.
The central ruins from the desert map would also be an option, except increase the counter time and make it that you have to hold the ruins constantly to get the buff. Make it you need 5 people minimum to cap one. Give PPT for holding each ruin, or put teleporters to enable fast travel to different areas of the map for a side that holds them, not a buff.
Even a flat plain for GvGs, no matter how much I hate those personally, would be better.
You also get an hour to complete the event, 20 mins is normally excessive for doing it. With the reduction to just 12 power cores the time should be massively reduced.
Well it is called character progression not account progression.. Look at it like this.. PVE’ers have to play each profession to unlock the elites.. They can’t use one toon and farm items to unlock them for other toons..
The problem with that is all characters played in WvW are paying into the same pot. If there were separate pots for each toon what you are saying would make sense.
Unfortunately anet devs have decided that the character to get the last point in leveling gets the reward, not the one you actually earned most of the points on. That is because they don’t like you getting rewards on one toon and spending them on another.
The problem isn’t the siege, it’s the exchange of proofs for hero points. They want you to actually use all characters you want to get hero points on from WvW rewards in WvW.
In order to sort that they would have to split the WvW points so you get personal and account leveling at the same time. That would mean time consuming changes when they could be doing other things.
The simplest fix would be for the devs to just quietly make the items account bound, as the chests were when they introduced them. that would mean you could use them on any character. I doubt if they are going to do that.
Most players know its faster to get them in PVE-land. I think the real issue is that you are scared to die to npcs in pve-land.. PVE-land too hard for you wvw’ers. You’d probably die to a bunch of pocket raptors and alt-f4 so they don’t get loot from you. :P
Most WvW players do PvE, they have to. WvW is a money sink, it costs gold to play and the only way to earn enough gold is to farm PvE mobs. Then again, briggah, perhaps you are too frightened you will get totally owned in WvW to step out the door? :P

I thought that a 1950s cinema ‘man in a monster suit’ would have been more appropriate. I was hoping for a souped up vinewraith and what we got was a second rate Godzilla. Slightly appropriate if you compare repeatedly trashing Tokyo with Lion’s Arch.
There has always been a feeling of things going too fast, Tybalt, Forgal and Sieran went before you got to know any of them. Then they ruined it by grouping them every 10 levels but that’s a different issue. There is a limited number of instances they can make in the time available and that is it.
The Mouth of Mordremoth was epic. If we had got something similar at the end of the original story I doubt if anyone could have complained. On second thoughts…
I was expecting something at the end, to return the remains of Caladbolg to the Pale Tree. She would have seen the end in the dream so would know what had happened. The only dodgy thing that Trahearne ever did was constantly repeat ‘this will not end well.’ Once that was surgically removed from his vocabulary he wasn’t too bad. In the end though he was right.
Playing HoT puts the reasoning behind Scarlett’s madness into perspective, would anyone have survived getting that much pressure? Being trapped with Mordy in your brain would affect anyone badly.
If I have a full stack of an item in an invisible bag it doesn’t move when I use the compact option.
However, If I have a part stack in the top bag and the full stack a quantity equal to a stack minus the amount in the top bag will move up from the invisible bag and into the top bag when I compact. With a stack of 50 in the top bag 200 will move up and form a new stack leaving 50 in the invisible bag. I then have to move it back.
This should be an easy to fix item but something makes me doubt that.
Seriously, I feel my toon is weakly skilled for HOT and the mobs are even not that hard.
Switch to a pew-pew ranger. Use longbow. – sorted.
I created a new ranger, exotic armor and weapons. Played the whole story line, killed Mordremoth, and did the Dragon Stand meta on it without any problems.
Then noticed that I had forgot to put any runes on the armor….
I used to use an old style Razer MMO mouse. When it died I got a Logitech G600 and later a new style Razer. The in curved keypad made the latter unusable for me.
I am now using a Utechtsmart Venus, very similar to the Logitech but about half the cost.
The problem with MMO gaming mice is the size of the keys on the pad, inevitably they are quite small and may not suit your hand. They are also handed, so not really suitable for left handed players.
Razer do have the Orbweaver gaming pad, which I regard as an excellent option, it makes dodging and jumping much easier for me (I have the small button above the pad bound to V). There are other options too so have a search for others.
I suffer Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, without the pad and MMO mouse I wouldn’t be able to play GW2 at all.
It’s also worth remembering that some of the people who play GW2 use exploits. Others are extremely skillful players of WvW who have been honing their skills for over 3 years. You have to accept that sometimes you are going to die quick.
Forget small pick up groups, find a good WvW guild, learn from them all they have to teach you. Lastly if you are still communicating by typing get on your world’s comms system and use it.
It is also worth leveling other classes if you haven’t already. Guardian isn’t necessarily the best or only choice and one of the others may suit you better. I started with necro, moved to guard and now mostly use a ranger.
I find that HoT has introduced a good few highly enjoyable features, like gliding and the masteries.
Then there is the cost of guild hall upgrades, the cost of scribing (although they are supposedly reducing that), and having to max out all of the masteries to make a new skin legendary.
Another issue is that increasing the power of players means mobs need increased power too, just to stay even. Central Tyria mobs were not much of a challenge before HoT but now don’t even reach cannon fodder levels. anet really needs to think before giving players even more power we don’t need.
Worse it creates balance issues between players who have HoT and those that do not.
Except casual guilds attempting to do them which accept less. If you insist on pugging you play by pug rules. If you run with a casual guild the rules change.
A lot of people start with ascended jewelry which is easy to get, and maybe ascended weapons. People in guilds. If you want to pug, you can always make your own pug group and say all welcome, no ascended required. I bet it fills.
I have no interest in raiding myself; I’m too casual to put up with the hardcores. I was speaking more generally, for people who might want to.
Which is a real problem, casual gamers guilds may want to do the raids but find them far too difficult and for some expensive.
Perhaps it is time for a return of hard mode for those who want the extra difficulty and an easier version for everyone else.
A good question. Some things are ‘objects’ and can be afflicted by conditions. I’ve seen gates and such take conditions. But old content does not.
Wood items should definitely burn but some fire skills conspicuously do not inflict burning.
When Teq is stunned and lands all direct damage is also multiplied, but conditions only tick for their regular amount. If I’m not mistaken this applies to all breakbar related stuns where there is a brief window when direct damage is multiplied.
Tequatl dies so fast that it often has no chance to recover before having to fly off for the next break.
It is expensive, and originally was not labelled as clearly it should have been. Both inventory slots and bag slots are both termed slots which is confusing.
I think they need to combine this with a Permanent Bank Access Contract. That would certainly make it worth buying one.
Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract and Permanent Trading Post Express Contract would be other worthwhile options.
3 slots specifically for gathering tools would be nice too, putting in tools would mean all toons could have access to the same ones without swapping.
I had seen one jumppad somewhere in the middle of Sparkfly Fen aswell.
There are numerous jump pads for the Tequatl event, those are not new.
Anet do not like balance, quite the opposite, they seem to hate balance, except a little bit in PvP.
If they liked balance they wouldn’t have put so much kitten in WvW.
I suspect Jormag might have froze the tall ones with his breath, leaving the rest to attempt to run south.
I have yet again been DCed from the game while doing an event, logged back in, and found that I was in a totally different instance.
Not only a different instance but one which was effectively dead, no events running, hardly anyone present.
So I thought of a SIMPLE fix that should stop it happening. Just reserve the person’s place for 3 minutes. If they manage to reconnect they go immediately back into the same instance.
Result – almost everyone happy. At least until the next issue comes up…
Could do with some under wing killer deodorant, spray those pesky bipeds…
Otherwise was fun for a change, I was dreading that they would totally overdo it.
Not to sure if this has been brought up or not sorry in advance if it has. but maybe ANET can “flush” dead accounts older than 3 years. i know how this sounds “what right does anet have to delete character names blah blah blah”
Even someone who has been out of game for 2+ years might come back, how are anet going to refund their name if they give it to someone else? What about that second person? They took the name without knowing it was previously used. Do they have to change their character name just because the original returned and complained?
Really this is a non-option.
Choose a ‘surname’ and attach that to all your toons. Xowen Stylus? or even a random set of characters. That should mean almost all the names you want are available.
Anyone who uses the block option responsibly though should NEVERRRRR unblock someone to begin with. 95% chance they will warrant blocking again.
It makes no sense to have this list, especially given the negative effects it has on the community. It potentially makes sense that you can spy on where blocked players are, since the lfg is flawed and allows them to join your parties and all that…..but that’s a case of 2 wrongs making a right and is hardly a valid reason.
It is easy to block someone in the heat of an argument, without the block list it would be difficult to unblock them if you change your mind.
Almost all of the ones on my block list are bots. The rest are people who ended up on there I simply blocked because they were being annoying at the time – there is no need for me to permanently ban them. My blocking them has no negative effects on the community.
As with everything, it has to be used responsibly, and not everyone acts that way 100% of the time. As far as I can see the block list has far more benefits for the community than negative ones.
Would be nice if a gold seller account, once it is permanently banned, was removed from my block list.
/adds Cerby.1069 to block list…..
Only joking.
2 issues,
I do get gifts from others but there is no clear indication of who is sending them. I think that gifts should always have a clear sender listed.
Secondly sometimes you might not actually want the stuff. Either you already have it, don’t have a use for it or just don’t want to get something from that particular person. The mails should have a return button that sends the item back and refunds the gems.
One of my accounts has an entry pass for the area at The Crown Pavilion. I have used it, perhaps, 3 times. The item is useless simply because it can only be carried by one character at a time and does not return you to the point you entered. It was bought as a gift for me, and, had the option to return it been available at the time it would have went straight back.
According to their latest statements they are still working on a new WvW base and have been for over a year. Hopefully they can get SOMETHING RIGHT.
The problem seems to be a lot more complex that just a new map. The present desert borderlands is a classic example of them trying too hard to provide a rich environment and, unfortunately, overdoing it.
The main issue at the moment is it takes too long to find an enemy zerg and to get around. That applies to both large groups and single players.
The HoT expansion brought elite specializations, which unbalance WvW further. As FTP and others that did not buy HoT do not have these it puts those people at a disadvantage. As such HoT is pay to win. This needs to be reconsidered too, preferably giving everyone access to elite specializations or removing them from WvW completely.
Really they need to kick the PvE devs out of WvW and get some people who actually know what WvW is about in. To be brutally honest I don’t see that happening. anet has failed WvW too often in the past.
Nevermore IV: The Raven Spirit needs You to fight ghosts in Barradin’s tomb, Power over Barradin, ‘Show your power over spirits by defeating the Ascalonian soldiers of Duke Barradin’s army in the Battle in the Vault under the Old Duke’s Estate in Plains of Ashford.’
Against this from wiki is
‘The nearby event Protect the Containment Unit seems to be a pre event and has to fail in order for the ghosts from the containment unit to populate the vaults and trigger the meta.’
As this second event is trivial, and people won’t listen to you, the chance of getting the achievement is low. Something needs changing, simplest would be to make the event time based or include defending the Containment Unit.

It would probably be better to Cut EU servers to 24, removing the lowest ones. You would need some discussion on how the redistribution of players takes place.
Allow free transit across atlantic between EU and US servers. People would have to chose an alternate server biased towards lower ones.
Allow free transit down to any of the lowest servers.
Give lower servers better personal rewards.
Balance the classes, remove or at least reduce invisibility.
I was doing quite a bit WvW before the expansion hit, now down to just doing a few of the daily achievements. I very rarely see large groups at the moment, unless they aren’t ours.
I certainly would not like WvW to change to 3 alliances, that would be totally counter productive. You would end up with 3 stacked maps to handle the numbers, some of them would be facing completely empty maps. The end result would be Edge of the Mists zergfests
It looks like WvW is handled by PvE management, rather than by a specific team of people who fully understand the environment. That may be why they keep on putting PvE trash in WvW. They give us what they think we want, not what we ask for.
What they are achieving is alienating players, a lot of them have already left and others are looking at the options.
Perhaps they could have been described differently then? There is a third vendor too.
I was concerned when the maps were originally detailed, laden with obvious gimmicks. I posted my feelings here.
After release it was just bad, all of what I posted has become reality.
A major issue is that WvW guilds have to leave WvW in order to farm mats to upgrade their new Guild Halls. Why?
1 They are far too expensive to buy
2 They are not available in WvW. several are PvP only at the moment and account bound. Others are only available in PvE.
The in game economy is completely screwed up and for many it has become a grindfest.
I’m now looking for a WvW substitute where the devs actually take due notice and care about players.
(edited by Serious.6940)
Been thinking about this, install a few Zephyr crystals at select locations to speed transit would help speed people around the map. Installing some of the jump platforms from the Tequatl event would help too.
Main problem though is complexity, people keep getting lost, even with the maps. Simplifying the landscape would help.
Get rid of the dust near garrison, the flame turrets at ‘Bay’ and the wind at hills. None of these have a beneficial effect. instead give a slight buff, at Bay give a little flame damage to players per shrine owned, at Garrison, an armor of earth buff, Hills projectile damage.
Might also be worth instigating a No EB week test, along with a 100% loot buff on borderlands.
A temporary 100% points tick buff for home border might get more people interested in defending.
I tried upgrading my Vine of the Pale Tree (Infused) to attuned in the Mystic Forge, having removed infusions first.
It won’t even appear in the list of items, despite my Vassar’s Band (Infused) appearing without problem. I had another Vine of the Pale Tree (Infused) on my other account which attuned without any issue.
Anyone else get this issue? I am wondering just what, if anything, I am doing wrong.
Some use less secure passwords or use the same passwords on multiple accounts, forums, and other sites. A more complex password only used on a single GW2 account increases security substantially.
My only concern with using SMS and the reason I haven’t set it up yet is cost. Do I have to pay to get the codes?
If it isn’t your home bl and is also not queued, I don’t see the problem tbh. Some of those guilds also assist when not gvg ing by running open raids etc.
The part I hated on YB, was that a few were pretty toxic in map chat. I am sure you have all heard a scout calling out an attack and someone shouting down “bleep ppt”… I don’t care if you don’t want to ppt (I often don’t either), but I never treat someone who does want to ppt as a second class citizen either….
On a side note, rumor that I heard was the gvg scene took a hiT moving to t3….
That is the issue, they may start on other borderlands but then they move onto home border. Their base ideal is not PPT but do their own thing. Many of these guilds will not help you save a keep or tower, even if they are not doing anything else they just don’t care. Their whole ethos is selfish. It would be much less of a problem if they had moved all the way down to bottom tier.
Obsidian Sanctum is too small and is shared by all groups. The new guild halls arena may also suffer the same issue. They need a large roughly flat area where guilds can do their own stuff. EotM is not suitable as there is no guarantee they can get all their people on, or meet their selected opponents.
Then, no matter what, you will always get some trying to do PvP on a WvW map. The only way to beat them seems to be get a large number of people together and run over their GvG until they give up.
I ran into a mesmer on my guardian. I use shouts to clear conditions. Every time I cleared the conditions I got stacked instantly with more.. The problem isn’t the changes with confusion but to mesmer. They have made it much more capable and then give it massive invisibility boosts.
That adjusts small group and single combat WvW towards mesmers, but then, WvW isn’t balanced anyway.
As suggested in other threads (by me and others) if anet wanted to make WvW balanced they would be better off switching to the PvP build system, even at the loss of build diversity. Perhaps also reducing the effect of food buffs in WvW too.
Oh my god this thread is terrible to read, maybe a total of one or two guys understood what OP was talking about.
That is not a problem with HoT, it is ingrained throughout the whole game. Many champions have the potential to down someone in a single hit or two. Zerkers do far too much damage and can avoid enemy damage. Armor/healing does not mitigate enough damage to make up the difference, which is why we have the zerker mentality.
If they were to limit max damage and increase the effectiveness of armor then this would not be an issue. I cannot see that happening as it would spoil the anet ‘fun’.
They had masteries disabled completely in tyria. It just went back to a normal experience bar if you left VB.
They don’t want people stockpiling the things you’ll need for precursors before hand. If you want to be very rich, ignore HoT content completely and grind out the precursor masteries in a 24 hour binge run on release.
First person to unlock them gets to be very very rich.
I think you missed something. All progress during betas made on the beta characters will be deleted before HoT goes live. It therefore doesn’t matter if you were to max everything out, you would end up with zilch anyway.
Even if you did get everything sorted and made a precursor you still wouldn’t be able to sell it as beta characters cannot use the TP or mail stuff.
Normal characters cannot get the stuff or do masteries until HoT goes live.
Great plan though.
I play zerker ranger in WvW and zerker/condi engineer armed with several bundle weapons in PvE so really want to see these two before HoT goes live.
I really hope they don’t try to turn the ranger into some form of healer/monk, that is really not where it’s place is.
I played virtually all classes except for engineer during the last beta, including a glass ele build. In no situation was the enemy overpowered. When I did find I was getting excessive damage in melee I simply switched to a ranged weapon.
If you expect to be able to just stand there and tank everything then you deserve to suffer. You need to avoid damage when possible.
As a character does not use it’s normal headgear underwater this is an essential bit of equipment for nearly everyone. The fact that they never managed anything above green is shocking. There should be gold and exotics available, perhaps as special event awards. [looks at calendar and thinks hopefully of Mad King…]
ok, forgot about krait….largos look pretty kitten good need those :d
1. quaggan
2. skritt
3. largos
4. centaur
5. krait
6. tengu
1 Unlikely – jumping puzzles
2 Most likely
3 Probably not
4,5 ditto to quaggan
6 Possible.
Most will have armor design issues. If there is another race then the skritt are where my money is.
Unfortunately it does fit, those with the Runes of the traveler were given a significantly better set of stats. Those with Magic find armor or most jewellery were given the option to chose a new set of stats. Those with these items were not given any choice. The items value has still been reduced from what was bought.
It would have been nice if they had offered an exchange for any other Ascended jewellery. That said I wouldn’t swap any of my Syzergy amulets and have bought another one since.
That said those who forked out the resources to make a triforge were royally screwed over when these came out. They have also lost the lucky part with no recompense. I think that should have been uprated to Legendary status with higher stats than the ascended (I don’t own one).
Really they didn’t think enough when they created the Ascended jewellery.
There is also the issue of the Superior Rune of the Pirate, available for just 1 silver 32 copper. I wonder what plans they have got for recompensing the owners of those lemons. In all probability it’s ‘screw you lot, we don’t give a kitten ’.

Our first listing: A Champion Risen Spider in Sparkfly Fen.
That thing is nasty, I wandered in while mapping on a warrior, I didn’t initially realize that it was a champ. A few seconds later and I was immobile and the hatchlings were snacking on me. No condition remover meant I died very quickly
I run a necro condition build in WvW. To be honest, they have been nurfed enough. The ranged classes have been degraded so much that I now mostly use either a warrior or guardian In PvE. This is despite the fact I’m fairly useless at playing warrior in WvW and nowhere near the best guardian.
The present situation is so bad that I’ve ran into enemy players who I could hardly damage at all.
Fractals at higher levels rapidly mean a combination of guardians and warriors – most other professions and often you aren’t welcome. Try getting into a lvl 30 fractal with a necro, Ranger or Engineer. Dungeons seem to be doing a similar trend with specific team members being preferred.
The classes aren’t all capable of doing it all like they claimed.
In GW1 the Ritualist became a second healer alongside the Monk, but neither were forced to do that. A monk could be an effective damage dealer or even tank, the Rit could spirit spam or bomb. I was fairly poor at healing on both, but on my necro using Rit skills it was completely different, I did a great many vanquishes and dungeons as a necro healer.
Unfortunately they gave out far too many skills, which made balancing a pain. With GW2 they have limited skills a bit too much and are relying on traits and equipment to fill the gap. For the Engineer kits fill the gap, but are less useful underwater and unavailable early on. They really should have an alternative underwater weapon.
I would prefer a little more flexibility. A new class of general skills, for things such as condition removers, running skills and extra healing skills which all classes could use I’m sure would mean a more level and interesting game.
As for not being able to target your team mates, yes you can. The Engineer can throw elixirs or fire their elixir gun to specifically hit one person. The ele can do the same with water skills. The guardian is a prime healing/buffing class. The problem is in a zerg it is almost impossible to detect who needs healing or when. Healers might not be reduced to staring at a list of people but the end result isn’t that much better.
