yeah I’m not sure I see us AR getting any better anytime soon, while there is avast knowledge and skill base with most of the remaining players on AR in wvw. I can’t see the server getting the population to become overly competitive.

Also I’m willing to bet no server can beat a 15vs15 gvg that AR can put out if the tpvp group play.

We’ll probably be OK if we get ET/FC/AR. We’re all low population enough to where it won’t be a gigantic landslide for first.

The really good tPvP players don’t actually WvW. I’ve tried to get a few of them to play but most only have lvl 1 chars.

To the HoD guys that kept pouring into SW camp on your BL only to die to a tiny engi, I must apologize. During your last wave when 4 of you guys rushed in, my computer crashed. I had already killed 3 of you guys so it was pretty disappointing, but oh well, at least you got the camp somehow right? ^^

To be fair, there’s at least some (like myself) that rarely ever step foot in EB, regardless of how little of it we own.

Sorry, but how do you not consider a GvG to be the highest form of skill-based PvP?

I don’t zerg, ever, but something tells me the zergs don’t run special builds to help them combat the mighty doors they fight all day. They probably run team/support builds (if they’re smart) which is what would help them win in a GvG. If everyone ran 1v1 builds they’d be at a disadvantage. I kind of feel like that’s blatantly obvious, considering they’re not 1v1ing. Also, saying that running into them on the field is a better way to see who is better is just stupid. How often do you think two random groups running into each other are fielding the exact same number? One side will always have more, and considering BS didn’t even bring 20 to this fight, one can only assume that they wouldn’t be the larger side of the matchup.

I had to write you this little paragraph because I’m not sure me just laughing at your earlier quote is enough to clear your delusions.

Still stuck on that numbers whine? I don’t get why you’re all upset with me. I merely pointed out to VS their error. They just should have never agreed to a gvg when they weren’t ready for one. And on BS I can attest to all of you being cowards. I’ve been in smaller zergs where you have been chased back into your spawn. I can’t personally speak for my whole server, but I can speak with confidence that for the most part Et and its supposed “WvW guilds” are considered a massive joke in SF.

@Shanks, when the noobs turn tail and head back to PvE because some kittenheads have decided to camp/siege our EB spawn, I’ll come here and ask them to either fess up and say “yeah, we want the ppt so shove it” and tell the noobs to come back next week, or see if they’ll have a chat w/ who ever is doing it and get them to go play with their toys somewhere else. If that’s stupid in your eyes, so be it. I want to add to our WvW population, not sit by and do nothing and watch it sink even further (assuming that’s even possible….is there a T9? ). I dunno, if the noobs run back to PvE, I don’t think they’ll come back, regardless of what someone posts on the forums. Also, even if you post on the forums asking the other server to stop the second they start doing it, it’s highly doubtful any of them will read it, let alone listen, before getting bored & stopping on their own accord. Glad you’re trying to keep the server healthy & populated, though. I tell people to come to AR when they ask about roaming, if it’s any consolation.

Now that I think about it, you guys really shouldn’t take my actions as a reflection of the AR server. Here’s the truth: most people on my server don’t like me, lol. I don’t do ‘real wvw,’ I troll our largest guild [WAR] on map chat all the time (because they’re useless), and I usually tell people to go away when more than 1 or 2 start following me. Honestly, I’m sure people on enemy servers like me more than on my own.

I am on HoD, and I have never and will never spawn camp (except for that one time) but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t all being painted with the same brush just because a few of us have engaged in it.

Once again, I am just keeping everyone honest about their statements in this thread, and this seemed like an appropriate response since it had server names in it and everything.

That’s fair. It may be because I’m rarely in EB, therefore don’t deal with it very often, but I think it’s stupid for people to complain about being spawn camped. Like many have stated, you can go out the other doors. You can also tell people via map chat that there are other exits.

Now the one question to be asked and answered in regards to “spawn camping”. Are you intent on moving out into the enemy borderlands and capturing something or do you WANT to stay at your spawn, farming those that foolishly come too close to the Legendary defenders? If you are there to farm then I will in turn farm you. I have seen enemies gathered on the rock outside the SW tower that have no intention of taking the tower, even with only one defender inside yet they will kill the dolyaks and anyone running by solo. If a larger force comes by they quickly run back to their spawn.

Those types I will spawn camp and not feel guilty about it in the least.

The problem with this game is that people are afraid to die. Hence the sitting near spawn & running back like you said, more notably, in my experience, elementalists refusing to fight more than 10 ft from a tower door.

I’m serious. When I stomp them, I use my Rabbit finisher, because I don’t care. (that is my rank, btw)

They come to our BL looking for “good fights” (read: ganking uplevels one at a time) and then brag on the forums about how "small’ their “team” is.

What I do is keep them busy and feed them badges so they don’t start thinking about actually taking towers or any of those menial things the wvw plebs are in charge of; so while they are hitting me with their over-sized hammers, the rest of my server is hopefully being productive.

Then they get bored with killing the same few “Noobs” over and over again for very few points, and move on after complaining on the forums about the lack of “good fights” and “small teams.”

I laughed because I’m what you described, minus the uplevel part.

I usually only solo roam, and I’m just running around looking for “good fights” =P. Sure, I kill uplevels, but I never expect anything out of them. I like finding the few good players. As you said, I don’t bother with taking towers or anything. Hitting a door over & over and killing an NPC doesn’t sound attractive to me.

I was at briar in HoD BL last night, and there were around 30 AR trying to take it. So why on earth would you commit more people than you have online at any given time to one small south tower?

And if they were all there, who was fighting us off in EB?

Post ‘em up. I haven’t seen 30 AR on the same map in months. I’ll use it as my desktop background to remind myself that there’s hope that we’re growing again.

As to why would we commit so many to one tower? That would assume there was any planning involved. My guess is it was a bunch of bodies from a lot of different guilds and they just happened to be in the same place at the same time. Once I see your screenie I can check the guild tags and know for sure.

You have to realize we have no large guilds any more. ALS was the biggest and they left, and now it sounds like they imploded and have broken up over on DB. Too bad as there were some good comms in ALS, but that’s their problem. They left us with our current problem of ultra low WvW population (once they left and we started to fall, the other large’ish guilds jumped ship too), so that’s what we’re focused on fixing through a new web site, recruiting in PvE zones, etc. It will take a while, but eventually we’ll get the numbers back.

All servers have zergs. The only question is how many. :P

I count maybe 15-20 players. There are lots of pets/minions/etc in there. And as I thought, there are lots of different guild tags in that mess, so it was just a mob.

Now if we could just get 2-3x that number on a map, we’d actually be able to push back on the zergs we face. Someday……

So its official ALS (Anvils last stand) has disbanded. 2nd biggest WvW guild i think. Zero (another big wvw guild) has also moved.

Ar is absolutely kittened. We would appreciate it if you’d take it easy on us as we have just lost MORE of our pop. and by more i mean we are down to about 50 WvW players total.

This is a sad day for this server. We are crumbling. But HoD and DR will most likely continue to absolutely destroy us with numbers 10x our size. I dont expect you to take it easy but anyways have fun.

The old ALS were the first to transfer out. The new ALS was just a casual guild under new leadership, repping wasn’t required. They may have disbanded but I doubt everyone in it left the server.

I looked into this. Turns out that AR’s ALS is just fine. The original ALS, that transferred to Dragonbrand, broke up. Apparently Anvil Plants kicked the other leader & took half the roster with him. Could care less about that, though.

Wasn’t a rune effect, his health wasn’t low enough. My guess is X-log. Anet made it so that if someone alt f4’s during a hotjoin match / WvW, the other player, if they did enough damage, would get glory pts / loot bag. However, I’m pretty sure they didn’t fix it all the way correctly. You are still able to exit the game (via x-logging, I think) and not give the person attacking you any benefit.

There may be a different way of exiting the client, but that’s what I think he did there. He isn’t “clearly using a hack.”

If we’re talking numbers, I’ve only been playing WvW for a little over a month. I’ve only played engineer. I never zerg. Sometimes I might run with 5, but the vast majority of the time I only solo roam.

I’m rank 77, and I have over 4,500 kills. I’ve accumulated over 3,500 badges of honor.

Engineer for roaming and 1vX. Sure, you could roll a thief, but do you really want to have to rely on broken mechanics to win fights? If you’re new/bad at the game, go thief. If you want a challenge that pays off, roll an engi. See video link in sig for motivation.

Also, I can’t tell you from experience because I mostly only solo roam, but engineers are extremely versatile & can do just about anything you gear/trait them to.

First, I would like to apologize on behalf of the DR caravan of rams that had broken down while travelling past the “only” route out of your citadel. We set up arrow carts to make sure that our repairs to the rams would go unhindered and we could get on our merry way. Also, in case you didn’t know, those were our rams. I looked at the math snowreap calculated and AR/ET/FC seems to be the most likely matchup for you guys. Crossing my fingers for you guys! I can see it the epic 12 v 8 v 15 fight.

The mighty 8 will surely come out victorious. Unfortunately I’m gonna miss reset since I work tonight, but I’ll be on after 11 to mop up any late night roamers.

We have the small matchup we wanted, everyone should make an effort to not run with more than 10. 5 or less would be ideal but I understand not everyone likes to play like me =P

Maybe they wanted you to flip it so they could zerg WXP. Sounds like something people that play on EB would do.

Indeed. I too am making a video of me diving into 2-4 randoms (1-2 uplevels), blowing all my CDs, to finish one, and then cut to the next scene.

Eh, I guess I might of done that once or twice in that video, but if you watch the whole thing I’m sure you’ll find that’s not the case. Also, unlike in real PvP where I don’t blow my cooldowns because it’s fight after fight, in WvW there’s a lot of running and time in between them, so why not end a fight quickly? Besides, except for my crate & S, everything recharges in less than 20-30 seconds.

@Shanks, I was going to do the typical cool story brah comment but decided to skim over your vid real quick. Good music choice and almost exactly the build and skills I plan for my eng. Overall not bad, you just need better opponentes higher tiers have been holding you back, while the majority of AR will lament the fall in tiers you will enjoy it as you get a feel for where the cool kids hang out. Should be some folks at fight club later in the night that will keep things in perspective, hope to see you there.

Glad you liked it. Will try my best to make it Thurs night. Also, I’ve been wanting to drop tiers for a long time, I’ve heard tales of good roaming down here. However, I’ve yet to be truly satisfied. My fights while roaming are far & few in between.

No I’m pretty aware that I’m OP. But I’m also aware that while it may be OP, it takes skill to play regardless. For example, right off the bat, I don’t hit over 10k in a single hit from total invisibility. It’s a weird class to play that takes a lot of micro managing, especially when running HGH.

I don’t normally bother posting about my encounters on the forum, but I found this one rather entertaining, and unfortunately for me I (as always) forgot to record.

I got off work and logged into GW with 15 minutes before the daily reset, and I only had 1/5 done. I quickly tried to rush the remaining ones as fast as I could, and with 5 minutes left, all I had to do was kill 2 yaks. So, I switched to SFBL, and noticed that two yaks were sitting inside south camp. It was owned by ET, and SF had the towers, so they were stationary at the camp. I decided to run into the camp head first & took out the dolyaks with 3 minutes left to spare. I had, in turn, however, aggro’d the entire camp, I was low on health, and had already used my supply crate to help quicken the yak kills.

At around 20% HP with 4-5 NPC’s on me, an SF thief & warrior decided to walk in on me. I expected to die instantly but I managed to get away from them a bit. The warrior was an uplevel, and I quickly downed & stomped him. Kited the thief a little bit more and got to around 40% health, then he started trying to burst me down again. Once more, I expected to die almost instantly, but to my surprise the thief’s hp bar withered away and I kept mine safe with my shield block & elixir S. Ended up stomping him with 2k hp left. He wasn’t an uplevel and stayed in stealth most of the time, so I can’t assume he was that new of a player.

On this note, I also propose a fight club this thursday for all 3 servers. SF BL, south camp, windmill. /bow to duel, no stomps. I actually don’t work at night this time so I’ll be able to make it. Someone should come up with a good time, sometime in the later evening sounds acceptable.

Aye thursday is fight club lots of duels to be had and sometimes small scale GvG 2s -5s is typical.

I know the usual SF folks will be there, but I’m looking forward to seeing the new AR folks and all their mesmers and guards.

I’ll be on my engineer. Just look for that one tiny engi killing everyone.

Today was the first time I’ve had a chance to go out & roam for a decent while. Hope the people that ran into me had a fun time, I’m the black & gold asuran engineer with the tiger finisher. Was mostly in ET/SF BL.

Had a few decent fights, but for the most part it was either running into 1-2 every once in a great while or a zerg. Was hoping the lower tiers had more roaming, but I guess it’s just less overall players. Everyone should start roaming more, at this low of a tier (and with the current matchup victor basically decided), you might as well! You can only get better as a player.

Our guild usually roams on SF BL or EB, I’m often solo roaming on my thief or on my warr if I’m feeling reckless. We usually don’t bother with ET BL as we can’t be bothered to run all the way down from top spawn.

If anyone else from your guild is into roaming and small man skirmishes, let one of us know which BL you’ll be on one night and we’ll try and be on the same one.

I almost always only solo roam, and I’m very, very rarely in EB. Also, [Hood] is a 1 man guild. It’s my second bank.
