Engineers are super fun. If you’ve had success as a warrior, you can as an engi…as I most commonly see them ranked 7th and 8th as far as OP/UP.
However, if you’re just looking to “learn another profession” go with thief or ele. Both of them have a “standard” playstyle that’s effective, but right now the engi has literally zero playstyle continuity. I find that extremely fun, but if you tell your team “I’m bringing an engi” they’ll have no idea what that means.
The “100nades” engi build plays somewhat like a greatsword warrior, just with ranged pressure instead of mobility/gap closers.
Edit: ah, and if you enjoy creating your own non-standard builds, engi is the profession for you.
I do like the idea of having my characters be 100b & 100 nades, haha. I’m not looking to be a bunker of any sort, so as long as people don’t usually “expect” engis to run bunker I might give that one a shot.
Does it take a while before not being completely terrible on an engi?
My prediction for what the new game mode will be like:
Regular conquest
Buffs [like temple buffs or similar] will appear on time intervals
Capture buff → run to point you currently own → receive point bonus
I’d love to know your secrets, Nick. I’ve been maining a Warrior since the first beta weekend and haven’t been able to find a build that I’m comfortable with for sPvP.
I run my own unique build that I haven’t seen anywhere else, I put out a lot of damage but I don’t run full glass. Going glass is very hard unless you have a good team to help out. I use GS + Axe/Shield, my traits are weird, though.
Also I’ve only been pvping for a little over a month, I did PvE until I found out how much better PvP is.

Go ele or thief if you like faceroll and want easy-mode.
Pick something else if you want to play an actually skill-based game.
My stats are meh, I pug with randoms very often so my win/loss isn’t great, but my top stats seems to be pretty high compared to other people’s. Thanks though!
Don’t care for easy mode, just want a class that’s fun to play and might benefit from someone with a warrior playstyle background.

So I’ve played over 1,000 games, and I’ve only used warrior for all of them. I really like this class, and regardless of the hate on them I’ll always enjoy using mine.
However, I think it’s time to at least try something else. I’m sure at the very least trying the different classes will help make fighting them easier, the only reason I haven’t done it earlier is because I didn’t want to ruin my perfect circle
So, I want you guys to help me decide what to try playing next in PvP. Everything is kind of hard to go on right now, with imminent nerfs on most of the classes coming soon.
Engineer seems hard to master but fun to play, I’m highly considering doing that. Other options I am considering are ele & thief, but I’m pretty open to any of them. Staying on warrior is also an option.
So, what do you think I should play next, having only ever played on a warrior?
Just because everyone picks on warriors…yeah, we can get rangers to 0 :P

I’m probably not the only person to ever accidentally start reviving a dead teammate for 200 hp a pop when I meant to stomp someone, sometimes ruining team fights.
I see the reason for this in every other mode, even in hotjoin people like to res sometimes. But in a tournament, you will almost never, ever use this. It’s simply not worth the time to sit there and revive a dead person when you could be doing something else.
If you don’t want to completely remove it, at least give us the option to change the keybind to revive players. While you’re at it, please also give us the option to change the keybind to use mesmer portals.
Our only game mode is conquest, meaning there’s very often a large number of bodies in 1 spot. How often do you see a dead player, a downed teammate, an enemy downed player and a portal all in 1 spot? All the time. And what’s your only option? Press F, try to somehow position yourself & hope you get lucky.
Some people are so over dramatic. There’s a lot of people playing PvE – a lot of potential players that might come if/when they add more content.

The personal expectations you hold based upon the advertisement may never be achieved to your individual liking. Personally i think they did a wonderful job with the PvP system in general, they just need to find a way to promote everybody to get involved with it more (laurals for dailys perhaps?), the rewards and titles are solid, show rankings, and give nice skins based on ranks.
but it’s all subjective to your expectations.

Thief bursts. They’re invisible and in less than 1 second, you’re downed. No time to react, just time to die. I know everyone whines about thieves, they’re mostly fine, just should not have the ability to fully down someone at full health from invisible mode. Sure, I can down someone at full health SOMETIMES with bulls/frenzy/100b – but you can see me coming. You can see me rush at you with bulls, and start crazily throwing around a giant sword.
So basically what I’m saying here is the thief should not be allowed such a big burst AND have the ability to be invisible the entire time.

They’ll be added eventually, just not added yet. They told everyone they’d add these features like a month ago, and I think the major pvp update that may include them will be sometime in feb.
Yeah, wars have 10% crit damage with axes, though.
From a decision making stand point, i dont know why you made the rank stomps a consumable token.
I know there’s lots of things on your plate, but in order to improve on the system I’d recommend something where it automatically tiger stomps when you’re tiger rank and there would be a toggle where you can turn it on and off in the options.
Then the only the holiday/event consumables would be available.
With this change everyone would know what rank bracket the person who’s stomping them is. We dont need rank 50+ running around with rabbit finishers imo. Also, we wouldn’t have to keep using these consumables if we were bothered enough to show our rank in hotjoins/wvw.

Is Desolation the Eu pvp server? Anvil Rock is where a lot are, in NA though. You can only see people in the mists that are in your server, but you play with players from every server when you do tournaments or hotjoin. So while it might be harder to initially find a party, you should still be able to play regularly. Also, since you’re in Desolation now, try finding multiple pvp guilds to join, and then switch back. Once you’re in guilds you can pug from there and your problem will be solved.
They didn’t add it to pvp. Might be a bug or it might be an animation thing they decided wouldn’t fit in the game well and left out.
The roaming abilities of the greatsword are some of the best, making it great for getting around and running away when needed. 100b & whirling do a ton of damage, and a cripple is a nice addition to the movement skills to pin down foes.
Edit: It might not be as useful, in this aspect, in PvE.
The only thing that’s super hard to get in pvp is cultural armor, which isn’t that big of a deal…
I think you should leave it as is, but remove the ability to stomp & revive quicker.

I looked through the mesmer bug list in that section and I didn’t see this, so I thought I’d post about it. I was 1v1ing today, mesmer vs warrior. In the middle of the fight I (the warrior) noticed there was a friendly clone of me, helping fight. We managed to reproduce it twice, but we’re not exactly sure. We think it might have something to do with the duelist.
Didn’t get very good pictures but it gets the point across.
Lack of funding? They made well over 100 million in pre orders…
Make pvp salvage kits stackable please. They take up too much space, with 5 from monthly.

Major Rune of grenth x2: 15% frozen duration
Major Rune of Ice x2: 15% frozen duration
Major sigil of chilling: 20% frozen duration
Major sigil of chilling: 20% frozen duration
So I’ve got 4 runes for 30% duration, and sigils on both my weapons for an extra 40%. With 70%, winter’s bite should last just under 6 seconds. However, it doesn’t. I hope it doesn’t have anything to do with the discrepancy between “chilled” & “frozen.”
I sent an in-game bug report about this quite a while back, but I still haven’t seen any updates for it. Hopefully they get it with the next one but I’m not sure. There doesn’t seem to be anyone else reporting this online anywhere, from what I can see. I did, however, see a thread where someone reported that frost trap also cannot be extended.
I’m basically completely wasting my ability to use runes/sigils because of this, it’s pretty disappointing. If this was not meant to be extended this far or the effects aren’t meant to stack, please let us know.
