Lol that’s not what inb4 means… Nice video though
lol this guy.
Pretty good vid Mask, since we play similar builds (albeit I rarely play anymore, I might once school is finished) I can’t help but notice certain things; let me throw them out there.
For one, it seems like you’re still using throw B on recharge. This is close to what I would do before, but ever since they updated it to give stability, it has become a much more powerful skill. Consider using it when the situation calls for it instead of on recharge.
It also kind of seemed like you were using throw S on recharge, but that’s just personal preference.
Try working on using S more quickly when using to stomp a sure stomp target (guard, ranger, engi, etc) when you’re 1vXing. I saw a few times where there was a mild hesitation and you took a lot of unnecessary damage. I have S binded to my wheel button for quick use. Just make sure you wait that half second or so after you begin stomping to use it, otherwise it runs out before you complete the stomp.
Consider using crate later in fights. A lot of the time you don’t need it, but there may come a time where a stun and some quick heals when nothing else is available can turn the tide.
Hope you’re enjoying the new patch, I haven’t played it at all yet. I’ll be looking forward to how you decide to change the build up.
And so, another potential Granade/Bombs Engineer was born………..not like i dont understand that thes kits a strong in condition area, but if people will keep selling granade and bomb kit to everyone new to Engineer profession, our ranks will be full of nothing but copies of eachother, a total gray army.
Currently every 2nd Engineer you meet is runing either bomb or granade build and are using same builds….as a Engineer user myself its a realy sad sight for me.And as for me, i prefer to go whit p/p and EG, even if not on pare whit Granade or Bomb kits, i still can burst oponents fast as, if not dodged or blocked, all of the attack will hit since its lock-on projectail, wher Granade you have to aim manualy so its easy to miss and bombs have short range so its easy to go out of its reach.
The build I gave him is P/P Elixir B / Elixir S / Toolkit.
You need to have some practice before jumping into pvp. I feel like that’s pretty obvious for just about every game, but in GW2 it’s even more important because movement is such an integral part of combat. Knowing where/how to position yourself, knowing when to dodge, or knowing when not to dodge, are key. Not only that, learning all of the skills takes a long time. Everyone starts out with the same stats which means the only difference between players (more or less) will be skill. There are people playing PvP today that started doing so over a year ago, so it’s just stupid to assume you can jump in day one and “slaughter people.”
tl;dr – less qq l2p
Shanks, can you share your build?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Zane-s-Fourth-WvW-Roaming-Video-HD/first
When I look at the weapons for an engi, the conditions seem quite low, compared to a necro, for example.
How does an Engi with condition runes build up all their conditions to kill someone?
Is it fairly slow process? Drawn out fights?
I use pistol/pistol.
3 – Blind, confusion
2 – Poison
4 – Burning
5 – immobilize, cripple
1 will give bleeding, but you from traits, you get:
Bleeding, burning
On hit & crits. The bleeding & burning stack on with any of the other skills, so sometimes static shot will stack on blind, confusion, burn & bleed in 1 hit.
I also use toolkit, for cripple & confusion.
Just continue using the pistol skills and they will melt.
Bombs and turrets for WvW are meh…at least in my opinion. There’s a lot of open space in WvW. What’s stopping anyone from just walking away from you? :/
I dunno. A lot of players like the full footage and not just highlight reels when it comes to fight. And seriously, what is wrong with almost dieing against 2 attackers at once?
As to the dolyaks, I can agree, that is the sort of thing you may wish to edit out.
I meant him + his ally against 1 enemy.
I’d highly suggest either speeding up or cutting out the parts with you killing NPCs. Watching you grenade dolyaks for 2 minutes isn’t exactly entertaining. Also, I’d avoid clips of you 2v1ing someone, especially if they almost kill you. Other than that it seemed pretty good
Grenades are always viable for WvW. Just bring a rifle and trait for power. You’ll be using grenades most often, but having the rifle for some control is nice when using AoE.
I’m using a basic condi build in WvW currently.
I have a rabid set at the moment, and have quite a bit of precision just because I have a few on critical effects. Do I have too much precision at the moment? How much do I need to keep sigil of blood and incendiary powder up at a comfortable level? Thanks.
Because you have so many on-crit traits, yes, rabid is a good way to go.
With that in mind, I’d drop II on explosives for something else, probably recharge.
You have almost all rabid, which leaves you with low HP, 17k. To trade off, you have crit chance & armor. Unfortunately, although your crit is nice, your armor isn’t that great, either. The build I use gives me more HP & more armor for a smaller crit chance. The only thing I need crit chance for is incendiary, and I find it to be more than enough. Since you have at least 2 traits & a sigil that proc on crit, I’d consider either transitioning away from on-crit effects or swapping a few more armor or trinkets to carrion or dire.
I like to target the enemy engineer when I’m out roaming in WvW. I almost always fight 1vX and I like bullying their engi. Why? To prove I can, mostly. They’re not exactly the easiest per say, but they’re definitely the not the hardest.
Although, I might stop doing this, since I’ve been noticing a trend. Almost every engineer I fight nowadays (note that I don’t play nearly as often anymore) has rocket boots and uses them like a thief’s shadow refuge. Near 50% HP or below? About face & rocket boots to run away and reset. Not only is it annoying, it’s disappointing. Makes engineers look bad if you’re constantly running away, tbh. Learn to dodge better.

Engineer. Because we’re kittening awesome.
Top notch engi beats top notch anything else 1v1, except mesmer. Why go engi instead of mesmer, you say? Because we can 1vX better than a mesmer can, and really, how often do you get 1v1’s in wvw?
I roam on my engi, but it would probably still work if I wanted to zerg. But, you know, that won’t ever happen.
See links in sig for motivation.
why except mesmers? we run similar builds and I don’t die to mesmers except if I screw up extremely. good necros however…!
and there’s no such thing as deadliest class op.
well you see mask if you are still running the hgh build then you are at a disadvantage versus necros in 2 ways, the first is boons that can be turned on you which also leads us to our second problem, some necro anti boon skills are unblockable and hgh has a lot less access to evade then some other engineer builds which makes you a lot more vulnerable to their condition spam, however when it comes to your average mesmer you have the advantage of really hard hitting conditions and if you still rocking carrion you have some really hard hitting skills which makes a mess of mesmers lack of condition removal, where as an engi that has more dodge and a lot less damage can’t apply no way near the pressure your build can giving mesmer a much more time between cool downs, but either build one wrong move versus a necro can mean death for an engineer.
not sure if shanks still runs the same build but that could be the issue.
Oh sorry I forgot to respond.
I say mesmer is deadliest just because I’m used to phantasm mesmer being OP 1v1, from PvP. If they play really defensive and kite through their phants effectively, it’s very hard to beat, especially since I don’t have AoE.
Condi necros are tough, too, though. Just gotta know when to dodge, they’re basically the anti-us, though. We’re all condi & boons, they eat condis & strip our boons.

Or, they could completely delete the skin & make an entirely new one that doesn’t suck.
I agree 1000%. I don’t want a massively expensive joke pistol. I want a big bad kitten pistol.
Inb4 we get a pistol that shoots out cats due to the filter
….I’d be ok with it shooting cats. As long as the cats were alive & proceeded to attack your target.
Or, they could completely delete the skin & make an entirely new one that doesn’t suck.
Ooooooooooh someones buthurt cuz they got corpse trolled by a quip auto in WvW.
This would be mildly entertaining if A: I actually had game sounds on and B: if anyone ever did anything on my corpse other than bowing or saluting.
So, yeah, no.
I don’t like it because it’s stupid and I wouldn’t want it for myself. I think all legendaries should be highly sought after; it’s clear that quip does not fall in this category.
Or, they could completely delete the skin & make an entirely new one that doesn’t suck.
Everyone’s descriptions are so effort-consuming. Blast finishers, multiple might sigils, using FT, blah blah.
Just use HGH. Have boon duration. Throw elixirs almost* on recharge to stack up. Sigil of battle & swap kits very often. That’s all it takes, I get to 25 without trying. You won’t have perma 25, but seriously, it’s not that big a deal. Even 20 stacks is an extra 700 condi & power.
*As long as you get some use out of it. EG: curing a bad condition, granting stability when a warrior swaps to hammer, wanting protection/regen when fighting 1vX.
Might be okay for like the 1/500 that would stay & fight. The rest will walk away & you will be sad.
No trait-able movement buff except power shoes, which only works when you’re in combat.
It’s either the rune set, speedy kits, elixir B (not perma) or yeah, get over it.
Have you tried the noble/EP + hgh combo?
i notice in masks vids or your you guys cant maintain 20 stacks of might.
Ostrich uses the noble/EP with sigil of battle combo but he doesnt run HGH with itIm really torn about what to do here lol..
I still dont have the Noble runes
Im wondering if im better off just getting the same runes you guys have and just running the same build.
Do you also notice me or mask having trouble melting people down? :P
Just play whatever you want, eventually you’ll realize what works for you.
Outside of the male helm, light Aether armor is ugly as kitten. U wanna wear cloth, play a light armor class.
I think they kinda look the same……………….
The helmets are both ugly, your set looks good, though (minus the helmet).
Are you using Dire gear? i thought you werent using dire gear so you needed the extra toughness more.
I still maintain 2.6 k armor and 22k health with the adjusted traits because i have 7 pieces of Dire trinkets/p/p and the rest is Rabid, so still pretty tanky i might be able to afford going more offensive in the traits. Plus im gaining perma swiftness which is super valuable when roaming.
I guess i will try it out with EP/noble and HGH
and then switch back if its not working out.
Nope, like I said earlier in this thread, I use:
-Full dire armor
-1 dire wep
-1 rabid wep
-Rampager amulet
-Rest are all rabid trinkets
With these, I get: (in combat with high might stacks)
22k hp
2,814 armor
2.3k condi dmg
2.2k power
52% crit chance
60% boon duration
50% condi duration
My elixir H heals for 5.8k & recharges at 25%.
The changes to toss B and S have been really great for WvW play. Been using my p/p roamer build a lot more now. It doesn’t have a drastic effect, but it really allows you to respond to certain situations the way you need to since both stability and stealth are “clutch” buffs to have. The way they had it before was just annoying.
I wouldn’t say it was annoying, just not as useful. I kinda liked the randomness of it, though.
50% of the time, it works every time.
ya im really noobish, im sure i will figure it out in time. Do you always have food with you?
Also i have been thinking a lot about the build and i came up with a variation:With sigil of battle/noble runes/ and enhanced performance you can gain an instant =9= stacks of might right at the start of battle just by swapping to med kit and back.
Last 10 points in traits can be spent however.
Might stacking is more reliable i think.Let me know what u think
It’s not worth using both HGH & EP/Noble runes. I know you’re thinking “kitten YEAH MIGHT” but honestly, it’s not hard at all to get them up using only HGH or only EP/Noble runes. You can go ahead & drop the toughness, but you’re going to die a lot more. I have over 2.8k armor & 22k hp, over 2k condi dmg, 60% boon duration & 50% condi duration with my build.
Yes, always use koi cakes. The build doesn’t work without them.
I wouldn’t want to give you a specific skill chain, just keep playing & figure out what works best for you. Static shot is amazing, as Mask said. Piles on conditions & usually negates their opener, which more often than not is a big skill. Don’t use block on recharge, use it as needed. Same with stealth & stability. Try using prybar whenever you can, but if you’re too obvious about it (eg: swapping to toolkit and running up to them) most people will dodge or block you. Be smart about it & use your cripple/immobilizes. Also, try your best to get off pistol 5 close to them for maximum burn length.
Hey Rigg, you know me, at least in WvW I almost always play the same thing & that happens to be B/S/Toolkit.
I’m really liking the changes. My favorite thing is that throw S is 100% stealth, with my stealth on immobilize trait, I can get a shadow refuge (10s stealth). Stealth on command is extremely OP – just another reason thief is a crutch class.
Throwing B for stability is amazing for stomps & cc denial. Not only taking out the 50% chance for either one but allowing me both at will lets me control the outcome of fights that much more.
It was even more fun when engineers were actually the “worst” class in pvp a few months back. Warriors were the second worst. Nobody liked engineers because frankly, nobody played them.
Thus, it was that much more fun to blow people up in 1 hit and get endless pm’s asking “how????”
Why would i have to use medkit with noble runes?
(6): When you use a healing skill, gain 3 stacks of might for 10 seconds. (Cooldown: 10s)
There’s no cooldown on medkit, so you could get the extra 3 stacks every 10 seconds. Elixir H has a longer cooldown so it doesn’t synergize as well.
it should also be a blast finisher but i don’t see that happening either.
So should every grenade skill :P
PS
isn’t jump shot already a blast finisher?
Edit:
I guess it’s a leap. Weird, I seem to remember being able to do aoe heals with it in a water field.
Shanks i will probably try your build first (seems like a good playstyle for me)
Would it be a good idea to swap out the points in inventions and go straight down firearm tree for more damage on the pistol like coated bullets and modified ammunition…have u tried that?
I might just try and grind out the runes of Noble you think those are the best possible runes for this build?
until then i will probably use
2X of whatever runes give me might duration
Like I said, I never used noble runes. I’m assuming that if you run these, you’ll have to use medkit. Make sure you’re actually ok with using it, a lot of people don’t like it. I use elixir H, it’s a solid large heal and adds to the boon count, giving the ever useful protection boon often. It also gives me throw H, which is another condi removal (with 409) along with some more protection/might. I never have problems stacking might, especially in fights.
I used to not run inventions, but I opted 20 points due to the nature of WvW. Having some toughness really helps a lot, the build puts out plenty of damage as it stands. Try them both & see which you prefer. I personally love having some solid defense with my high HP pool, I don’t make for an easy target. Aside from that, the stealth on immobilize is amazing when you’re doing 1vX. Also great for escaping zergs. Now that throw S is stealth all the time, too, you can basically instantly shadow refuge (10s stealth) if you get immobilized. I like power shoes because I move around a lot in fights (although I don’t usually run away, I notice a lot of engis like to do this) and having that extra leg up helps not only with catching fleeing foes but also escaping zergs.
Warriors already have it, but it’s because of a trait. That’s key. Without the trait, they would sit there & run in place. You shouldn’t compare the two, because requiring a trait line makes a big difference.
Our weapons are mainly for utility rather than damage though.
Jump shot does a ton of damage if you’re running power.

Its gonna take me a long time to get noble runes So whats a suitable replacement?
Im thinking runes of perplexity would synergize really well.and what other sigils beside battle do i need if i did go with perplexity
Shanks, Dire trinkets + pistols and rabid armor would work well with your build right?
thanks for the responses guys
It’s really all personal preference. I’ve been using dire armor & 1 wep with 1 rabid wep & all rabid trinkets. (except rampager ammy)
Perplexity runes are pretty fun, they’re too OP though and I got bored after a while. I didn’t use HGH when I ran perplexity, you lose out on boon duration so it doesn’t work well. Therefore, sigil of battle isn’t worth bringing. I did pistol/shield, sigil of fire + energy, I think. I used flamethrower & toolkit, combined with shield offhand, you have a ton of interrupts. I could stack 20+ confusion on someone with ease, and bad players just kill themselves in seconds.
You don’t need noble runes to run HGH. I’ve been running HGH for a very long time & have never used them. You can use 2 of each of the 3 runes that give 20% might duration & be golden. I personally use 2 of each of 3 different runes that give longer boon duration, I like having multiple boons up (not just might) and it helps with swiftness since I don’t waste points for speedy kits.
This would be a neat idea, but they’d end up increasing the RC or lowering damage. Are you willing to live with that? Overcharged shot already cures immo, it’d be weird to have 1 weapon with 2 skills that cure it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Zane-s-Fourth-WvW-Roaming-Video-HD
Here’s another option for you. Mask & I use very similar builds, not sure if he’s changed his.
Chaith and Zane The Clever are the ones who have impressed me
<3
School/work have been keeping me way too busy, I don’t have much of a presence anymore x.x
Basically, me.
Chaith is also up there, though. Always has been. Before he stopped playing, “The Baby” was the best far point assault.
I play nearly every day! What is “The Baby”?
Yeah the stopped playing part was for The Baby. That was his name, pretty unique guy. He’d always refer to himself in third person as “The Baby” (capitalized, of course) and would say “Fear The Baby.” in map chat at the start of every round. Random trivia, but the guy was fun to play with and was amazing at far point assault. He played heavy bunk & cc builds, unique to him, that had him neutralizing far with bunkers on it and keeping it that way all game. Forced the other team to send 3+ or they’d be down a point. Like I said though, I haven’t seen him in quite a while.
Five Guage is a good one. I’m not sure if he streams but I’m pretty sure you can find him in some videos and tournament recordings. Ostricheggs is fun to watch and streams all the time. He also plays a warrior build that not a lot of people are using, which is kind of nice to see. Chaith is another good one. There are probably a lot of unknown good engis out there, as the class is one of the more complex ones to master.
>Five Guage is a good one.
>Chaith is another good one.
lol
Basically, me.
Chaith is also up there, though. Always has been. Before he stopped playing, “The Baby” was the best far point assault.
Are you the asura engineer with the achievement point sshoulders I all ways see?
Nope
Ahhh nice look btw, had 3 random duels with ya a few days ago and then noticed in your sig you were with gh and thought you might be the same guy
Thanks. It’s been pretty much exactly the same for a long time, I have multiple armor sets and they’re all about the same, lol.
Good video, good work, but holy kitten some of the people you’re playing against are beyond bad. They’ve transcended bad. They’re kittening abysmal.
Like that first clip. What was that, PvE babby day in the jumping puzzle? Random usage of skills, no dodges, prehistoric builds… wat
Ha, yeah, can’t say everyone in the video is all pro. The guys in the first clip weren’t that great, I wouldn’t of added it in if it were only 1 or 2 of them. But it was 3 on 1, and I didn’t get a jump on them or used any NPC’s, so I threw it in for luls.
Since when is perplexity the meta?
It just seems to me that many engineers run it, mainly due to it being stupidly OP.
Thanks for the comments guys, glad you liked it. Also thanks for the copy/paste of build.
I’m actually going to try the perplexity out with a build my guild leader wants me to try for ZvZ. I’m thinking it’ll be lame, but they’re providing me the runes, so yeah.
Your build is very similar to the p/p I use, although I generally put more into firearms, taking coated bullets and modified ammunition if I go the full 30. The 15 in inventions is really nice though since you get the healing skill recharge.
I think most people would usually take protective shield instead of power shoes though, especially since you have decent access to swiftness. If a zerg really wants to catch this kind of build, they will. The extra protection can really help you nullify a burst from someone too, like backstab thieves. It just doesn’t have the micro-mobility to leap away from anything. But I guess it would really help you move around during any swiftness downtime.
Have you looked at the runes of the noble? They would work quite well with an HGH build. I’ve always used runes of altruism since I’m mostly doing group stuff and they help with fury uptime, but the noble runes would be a pretty solid choice if you’re willing to give up a bit of boon duration.
I’m not too sure how well perplex would work in a team fight situation. I guess you could just play it like GW1, and focus their healers. It’d be a little harder in GW2 though, since there’s so many different specs classes can play.
I do like the health skill RC, it’s saved my kitten countless times.
Yeah, I’m sure most people will go with the protection over speedy shoes. Either works, really. I don’t have a problem not bringing protection when I’m running elixir H, and I love being able to run ahead of fleeing targets (to box of nails).
I’ve looked at the noble runes, and they seem neat. Honestly though, I’ve never had a problem maintaining & stacking might, so I never seriously considered them. I haven’t been playing much (again, school & work kick my kitten ) but a week or two ago I bought some new gear for this build.
Full dire armor set
1 dire pistol
Rune of the traveler x2 (to replace major water, I now have 60% Boon dur.)
So I’ve got 2x Traveler, 2x Water, 2x Fire. This gives me 60% all boons + an extra 20% might duration. With sigil of battle & all the elixirs, I get to 20-25 stacks in almost every fight, without trying. Hell, most of the time even when I’m soloing a camp I’ll look down and say “oh wow look at that, 25 stacks, neat.”
Are you the asura engineer with the achievement point sshoulders I all ways see?
Nope
I like it ^. Looks very necro-y.
Here’s an old picture of mine, he usually looks the same anyway.
Almost exactly what I started using in tPvP a few days ago for luls. Instead of the wrench trait, though, I went with static discharge. On some maps I swap out speedy kits for HGH. Fun build.
You can also use magnet to blow their dodges without putting magnet on full cooldown as well if you cancel it before it goes off with ~
It’s also a good way to test if they will dodge magnet (many people in WvW don’t seem to know what it is or how to time the dodge properly). At worst I probably just gave myself 3 more might through sigil of battle.
Yep, that’s also a good point. It’s such a long cast time, it’s a breeze to cancel. Also works to save your CD in case they just popped stability.
Let me consult my crystal ball…
Edit. What I meant to say was:
Consult my crystal ball, I shall
Nice vid, I run a similar setup but with piercing pistols instead of the 25% move speed (those last 10 points are personal pref)
Why not swap out the major waters for superior traveler (in case you don’t want to do dungeons) or monk (if you’re broke but willing to do dungeons) for more boon duration?
If you’re both broke and hate dungeons sorry for bringing it up lol
I like the extra toughness, especially for WvW.
I made this build before the rune updates. I was running minor water because the only other option was monk, and yeah, I hate PvE.
Really nice video, interesting to watch.
I have to say though its bordering on sad how many people still get pulled by the engis pull. Could it really be that hard to dodge with so much warning?
But regardless, really nice play Makes me want an engi xD
Yeah, magnet is pretty obvious. Many times, though, I’ll time it and use it after they blow their dodges.
Since when is perplexity the meta?
It just seems to me that many engineers run it, mainly due to it being stupidly OP.
Thanks for the comments guys, glad you liked it. Also thanks for the copy/paste of build.
Thread Necro.
Have you switched to Dire yet?
I’ve got a 4th video thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Zane-s-Fourth-WvW-Roaming-Video-HD/first#post2876145
But, no, I haven’t. JUST LAST NIGHT, though, I was looking at it. I’ll probably switch over, seems to make more sense for my build.
