ur only 40k down in ur match that really isnt that bad. Way to many ppl care about winning and not the fights
80% of AR honestly could care less about winning. What we do care about is the fights, and that’s why we want to switch. BP/SBI zergs are always huge & triple+ our numbers. We have small groups here & there, but 5 good players can’t compete against 50 noobs.
Don’t play on EB then. If your entire server concentrates on your borderlands that will give you the fights you are looking for. Even BP runs from SBI’s zerg in EB from time to time because they are “Afraid of the numbers”
Personally, I don’t even bother going to EB anymore.
Thanks.
Just trying to get a feel for the mess I’ll be getting myself into if I head over there. As both Ebay has faced AR and DB i figured you guys could give an honest opinion of what DB has to offer in terms of a WvW environment.
So far from what I’ve heard from several sources, is the same, zergy blobby tactics with no skilled group/guild to speak of.
bleh.
Maybe you should of all swapped to a EU server, lol

Unfortunately, no one in PvP wants to WvW. Believe me, I’ve tried convincing them before.
Also,
Someone seems a bit mad with AR. You weren’t commanding on SBI BL last night were you? The glass GS warrior?

Normally, if AR pvpers do actually wvw, they mostly only roam – zero contribution to points
I would agree with this.
But hey, I take camps, sometimes.
Yes, it is time. Join the BP family.
Haha, no. I only roam, and it seems BP only does the opposite. If we do drop a tier, I expect less zergs & more roaming, which I’m all for.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/matchups/Petition-to-move-Anvil-Rock-down-next-week
So, as many of you know, our largest guild, [ALS], is transferring out. Our current matchup is against BP & SBI, and, as many people on AR will agree, we never had enough people to be able to really compete against these two servers, even with all of [ALS]. They simply have too many numbers at any point in time, and able as our players may be, it comes down to numbers in the end.
With [ALS] leaving, our server will take a big hit, and I have no doubt that we will eventually drop a ‘tier.’ I know there isn’t tiers anymore, but it’s the best way to put it. However, I, like many others I’m sure, don’t want to have to deal with playing BP & SBI again. I wouldn’t be surprised, that if left alone, we’d play the same matchup a third time.
So, I’m creating this thread in hopes that the players inside of the current matchup will speak up and voice their opinions, to see if the major consensus seems to be that we would like to drop. If this is the case, I hope Anet will take it into consideration and do something about it. I’ve noticed a few Anet players in WvW that I’ve never seen on our server before, so I’m hoping this means that they’re already looking into it.
I know I don’t speak for everyone, so if you’re on AR & disagree with me, please post about it here & explain your reasoning.
I’ve attached a picture of how the current matchup is going. I do realize it’s a little late, but it’s not THAT late. We can say that many players are doing the new content or whatever, but when it comes down to it, AR is the PvP server. The other two servers are PvX and are more likely to take a bigger hit in terms of lost numbers doing PvE.
Happens to me as well, I shrugged it off as a mesmer trait. I don’t play mesmer though, so I don’t know for sure.
Nutz you did but many of them continued it rigorously…also fight club is 9pm on Thursdays usually, not in the middle of a week
Doesn’t mean I can’t try to set up a second one anyway ;P
Hey, dunno if you guys read this thread, but I had fun dueling the BP thieves at windmill a little bit ago. We should set up a fight club tonight & get some more people than just us 3, I know some AR players would be interested. I’m thinking about 6 hours from now, SBI BL, windmill. Anyone welcome to come.
Unfortunately, no one in PvP wants to WvW. Believe me, I’ve tried convincing them before.

I moved over a few weeks ago =P
PvE is srs bznz for AR apparently…
Except for the fact that AR is the pvp server
Hope it inspires you
Anyone down to start up a fight club tonight? Thinking SBI BL, south camp, windmill.
I’m bored, haven’t had a decent 1v1 in a while.
It’ll be more popular with the next patch, seeing as Anet is putting one of the Aetherblade chests in there(needed for the achievement). So expect a lot more gankers and fights from tomorrow.
Exciting news indeed
Maybe they added something to pve that makes being pulled into an object (tree/wall) dazes the monster.
If you got one badge you presence probably didn’t matter. Weird thing is that i play like braindead monkey and still get lot’s of bags. I usually look where enemies are and then push 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
You start off fights by healing?
Maybe he’s a hammer warrior and needs adrenaline to open with earthshaker.
He’s an ele :P

Coated bullets is a little enticing, but you have to remember that it’s only going to benefit pistol 1 & 2. And, because pistol 1 is bugged, you’re only going to get the bleed on your initial target.
I know, I’ve used till the last balance patch before this one. pistol 1 + coated bullets will hit twice on the same target at max range or when shooting from above. also when enemies clump together, perfect to stop resses, especially combined with p2 and p4. you have to play a bit with your positioning but tis well worth it. just useless for most duels. if its true we can get it for 20 points instead of 30, then Im happy :p
Yeah, it would be nice of them to give us the 10 for free, I’m sure a lot of engineer’s will be using it. Since I’m always roaming though, I probably won’t. I don’t really defend towers…I’m a bad WvW objective player
Didn’t even know there was fountains.
My favorite thing to do in the JP is kill the people killing noobs in there. They’re usually pretty bad themselves.
have you been able to do this since they seperated it from eb?
What, kill people? But of course.
Zerging is absolutely NOT the only way to get badges. I’ve been playing WvW for about 3 weeks & I’ve accumulated well over 1,000 badges, almost exclusively roaming.
Im wondering whats the points in those frapses? Why you dont go to sPvP?
I did tPvP for a long time, I WvW for a change of pace. WvW is much less predictable, the map is much larger & there isn’t a number restriction of 5.
so since he doesn’t zerg around with a blob calling target on his own team mate so you can blob easier, he should go spvp? is that what u saying?
@ shanks, makes sense, I suppose I should give it a try but I’m probably dropping 10 points in inventions tomorrow anyway to get coated bullets.. if those patch notes are real ofc.
Ha, I always wondered why people would call targets on their teammates. That’s pretty funny. Whenever more than 5 people start following me around I try to lose them =P.

Did I get the build and gear right?
One of the sigils on the weapons is wrong, and my trinkets are a little weird. So right now, for me, I have:
Coral jewel on backpiece
Crest of the rabid on each earring
Rabid ring with chrysocola jewel
Rabid ascended ring
Rampager’s ascended amulet
Then kite away with box of nails and let the condi do the work for you as you use your pistols.
I was watching your vid and scratching my head wondering why your opponents were dropping so fast when I just didn’t see any “big numbers” like I usually see in vids like these. Then I started watching the condis you were putting on them right at the start of each fight, and even if they cleared the first round, you just piled on round two! Wow. Glad you’re on my team (AR). Guys like you just might gain engies a bit of respect vs. “oh look, free loot bag!”. ;-)
I have an 80 engie that I play around with in WvW from time to time, mainly just to be a kitten and annoy people in tower/keep offense/defense with FT and BoB. Setting people on fire then blowing them out of towers/off of walls just never gets old, LOL. Makes for a horrid roaming build though, so I roll with my Thief when I’m in that mood. Good on ya for making a roaming engie work. :-)
Hey thanks, glad to be here. Engineer’s I think are the best at re-applying conditions as quickly as possible. As for the engie respect thing, I think I’m getting there. It used to be I’d be “the target” to try and gank, the initial burst would almost always be on me. Well, that didn’t usually work out for them too well, and now it rarely happens. Maybe the other teams are starting to realize what a tiger finisher is.
Engineer isn’t what comes to most people’s minds when you say “roamer,” and I don’t know why, but I enjoy playing classes that others don’t consider “good.” When I played PvP, as you can see in the picture I’m gonna post below, my first 1,000 games were 100% warrior. Why? Because everyone said warrior’s sucked for pvp. After hitting 1,000, I decided I’d try something else. My friends all told me to roll a thief, it’d be great for my aggressive playstyle, but I wasn’t interested. I wanted a challenge, and going invisible while hitting 10k+ bursts didn’t seem hard. At the time, the only other class that was disregarded as useless as a warrior was the engineer. Took some getting used to, but I stuck by it. Glad I did, I like this class.
The second picture is current, I haven’t pvp’d in a while.
I think you are certainly right. I just want to have more skills on my toolbar e.g. Bombs/grenades, Medkit, toolkit and any Stunbreak (Maybe the new slick shoes, sound quite nice)
Therefore I think I should completly rework the traits, put 30 into and some into Tools.
Maybe like this?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pic3zy5F1LJyIFfWnFqA+Jqwj95hclWPIA
Whats your hint on equippment and runes?
I think for consumables Condi Reduction is a must. Otherwise Conditions will eat my kitten .And since they will rework rifle and jumpshot, will the Burst DPS build with rifle, Nades (100Nades) and Toolkit become viable again? (Sitting Duck will be merged with Knee Shot, thats a reason more for rifle/burst build!)
EDIT: if I use Pistol / Shield as in the link above, can I combine Sigil of Hydromancy and Sigil of Battle? Or will that be problematic with internal cooldowns and so on?
You don’t have any elixirs, so it isn’t worth putting 10 into alchemy. Either choose a different trait or throw your 10 elsewhere.
yea, this is pretty much the same as my last build, except you run power shoes while I run protective shield.
you should just run ac a couple of times and get superior runes of the monk instead of major water :pis power shoes really worth it tho?
while in combat I never have any issues with speed, swiftness its pretty much permanent and for escapes I just drop glue shots and box of nails behind me, while avoiding damage with S/gear shield/throw S.
My shady math tells me protective shield is about a 7% total reduction in direct damage in a long fight and probably a better choice there, but I never really tested power shoes, always dismissed it as unnecessary.good job on the vid.
The first time I tried power shoes, I stayed alive for a solid 4 minutes with 5 people chasing me. I couldn’t get away, so I just kited back & forth. I went back & timed it later, it was literally over 4 minutes. Now, if you think about it, that’s a long time. Especially when at least 1 of them was an elementalist. The extra mobility in combat lets me out maneuver just about anyone. I play on Anvil Rock, and we’re almost always outmanned. Zergs from the other servers run rampant, and I run into them way more often than I’d like. When you have sheer numbers on you, your utilities can’t take you as far. Sure, I have my shield, nails & glue, S & throw S, but I also have something none of them do – 25% faster speed. As you probably know, when you get enough distance between you & a zerg, they lose interest and let you go. I like to consider myself rather good at escaping, and I think it has to do with my power shoes. Now, I may just be crazy & lucky, but it’s worked for me thus far. As for protection, I just count on it from Elixir H / throw H.
Oh, also, I hate mostly anything pve. The only thing I can do is cof p1 & that’s because it takes 6 minutes…I don’t think I could do AC to get the runes, I’m sure it’d take me hours >_>
Imo, HGH wouldn’t be worth bringing with your only elixir being H. You don’t HAVE to bring HGH, just keep those utilities & change your traits.
man totally want this rabid exotic but no one in malchors for the event.
guess ill have to post a set time or something in pve?
know any tips to getting a party to form for this meta event?
Just guest a server that already has it done
Yeah, this build lacks aoe. But that’s ok, just wait for the refuge to end —> use your throw elixir S or box nails → kite or gear shield.
yep, it was you. you kicked my kitten on my engie but I learned some awesome things to do, thanks for helping me improve my engie skills! (I paid attention to guild tags after I died lol). You sir are one awesome engie!
btw my build is 10/20/0/30/10, spec’d for more swiftness and vigor, was thinking about taking 10 out of firearms for 10 in inventions for Cloaking device rather than 1050 range.
Haha, glad I could help! Cloaking device is really handy, but will probably only be beneficial if you roam/solo as much as I do. If you’re with a bigger group, you don’t get as much out of it. Also, my playstyle is very much “in your face” – so the extra pistol range wouldn’t suit me. It might suit you, though.
were you that engie that was running a squad of 3 capping the northern camps in SBI borderlands over and over last week?
lol, I have been known to do that. Right before the reset, there was at least 5+ sbi just camping up there with siege & stuff, was hilarious going in & seeing how many waves we could take on.
1:05 – I like the dodge out of the stomp! I’ve gotten fairly good at this too, though I have yet to learn which professions have downed skills that should be dodged.\
1:13 – I bet those players were thinking “he’s not coming down here, it’s just one engineer”.
I played Mask’s “old” build before the confusion nerf when confusion was OP, and I was still less than 50% in 1v1s. I am so impressed when I see you guys taking on multiples, but I’m also confused. I just seemed to die much easier with the same build, gear, and what I thought was the same playstyle. But I must be missing some very important things. Are casting animations a big part of your game? Because I know very few and don’t really know which ones must be dodged. Anyway, nice video.
I admit there’s another part of my playstyle that needs work, though. Once I unload I know the right thing to do is be more defensive and kite until I’ve got some skills to work with. But I tend to stay in rather close range so that I’m in position for when blowtorch and prybar are off cooldown. Maybe that’s just something I need to learn through repetition.
Thanks!
Warrior, engineer & necromancer downed skills can be evaded. The guardian push can be blinded, & if you fake stomp you can get a mesmer right as he pops up. There’s a lot of little tricks that you pick up along the way, these are only a few.
Yeah, I didn’t expect to do as well as I did in that clip. I was doing it for fun. They were SBI players sieging BP’s tower, and BP was just sitting in it waiting for them. I left the rest of the clip out, but after I downed that guardian, I also downed the mesmer. Before I could stomp though, BP decided to come & zerg the rest of them along with me, lol.
GW2 is an action MMO, and watching movements is a very important part of the game. I think the reason I stay alive so long is because I am good at moving around. When I ran my glass cannon build, I’d run with a sigil of energy & perma vigor. Man, I miss that. I could stay alive for a LONG time just because I could evade all the big stuff. Got hard when there was more than 3 on me, though.
Oh, also, swap back & forth between your range. When they’re on cooldown, glue shot them & go say hello. Then kite away with box of nails and let the condi do the work for you as you use your pistols.

My favorite thing to do in the JP is kill the people killing noobs in there. They’re usually pretty bad themselves.
I don’t see how this is a problem at all. If you are solo/small man then just don’t down ele/war in front of a keep or at least try to lure them away from tower or use pulls to move them further away from a keep. If you are zerging then just wait until you smash in whatever they mist into.
And lets not ignore the fact that any of the people posting in this thread (including myself) would all mist into a keep for self rez….
I get ele’s that purposely stay near the door because of this. Most will refuse to go out of mist form range so they can just run back in.
I agree, you shouldn’t be able to cross any portals while in mist form.
As for vengeance, even if the warrior does make it inside, he dies anyway, so I guess that’s okay.
Am I missing something or is this just Mask’s build but with a very slight change in traits?
Yep, someone pointed that out last time. They are pretty similar. This is what I came up with to fit my playstyle, I guess so did he.
cool so just tried it and seems it works better for me however I only see rabid in rare? so do you not use exotic trinket pr pistol?
Nope, they’re all exotic. There’s some with different names, karma vendors are also an option.
wow this build looks exactly what I am after. Sadly my confusion focused bomb toolkit build just isn’t working anymore I get locked down and not enough toughness then dead.
what do you do your ruins in your armor? undead?
Haha, sorry, I knew I forgot something.

TL;DR – The Video
My third WvW video. I had a lot of clips, and I only ended up using about half. It is rather long, but the music isn’t bad and I believe it to be pretty entertaining to watch. If you guys think that the video is too fast-paced (I sped up the clips), let me know! I’ll try & be better on the next one.
Also, Click Here to watch my other videos!
Thanks for watching.
Here’s a nice big wall of text. Scroll down for the TL;DR.
Hey guys. So as a few of you might know, I’m relatively new to the WvW scene. I mostly only did PvP. I never enjoyed hotjoin (8v8) because I considered it to be too zergy for me, so I shrugged off WvW for a long time with the idea that it was all zergs. However, about 3 weeks ago, I decided to give it a try anyway, just to get a change of pace. I realized roaming was actually a thing you could do, and had a ton of fun killing people with my lvl 20 engi. So, with the help of cof p1, I power crafted him to 80 & got him some gear. It’s been a fun couple of weeks, & I’ve learned a lot.
When I first started, my build consisted of speedy kits, nades, & full glass carrion. Soloing camps was a breeze, I won almost every 1v1, but would have some difficulty dealing with larger numbers. I decided to throw some more survivability into the build, and to add in HGH to make up for it. I miss speedy kits, but am pretty happy with what I came up with.
The Build
Traits
10/10/20/30/0
Explosives: V – Incendiary Powder
-A big chunk of my damage comes from this. It pairs up beautifully with blowtorch at the start of a fight, throwing on a nice 14 seconds of burn.
Firearms: VI – Hair Trigger
-Because this build lacks nades/bombs/FT, my main source if damage is the P/P combo. The 20% faster recharge is invaluable and allows me to re-apply conditions quicker than most classes.
Inventions: VI – Cloaking Device – VII – Power Shoes
-I have to admit, I was never a fan of this tree line when I did PvP. The traits didn’t seem all that useful to me, but I forced myself to take it so I could have some extra toughness. The more I played WvW, though, the more I fell in love. The Cloaking Device is excellent for getting away from zergs, stopping spikes, and sneaking up on someone mid-fight. I chose Power Shoes because I found myself running away from zergs very often. I really like this trait, engineer’s don’t have many gap closers and this really does help you get around the field during fights.
Alchemy: II – Fast-Acting Elixirs – X – Cleaning Formula 409 – XI – HGH
The bread & butter of the build, your basic HGH alchemy lineup. Not much to explain here, when you run HGH, you don’t get a lot of wiggle room in this tree unless you want to greatly sacrifice your potential.
Gear
Armor
I run full carrion, except for the leggings, which are rampager. Having rampager legs gives you an extra 4% crit chance, which helps to get off your incendiary powder.
Runes
2x Major Rune of Water
2x Superior Rune of Water
2x Superior Rune of Fire
Weapons
Pistol #1: Carrion with Superior Sigil of Battle
Pistol #2: Rabid with Superior Sigil of Corruption
Trinkets
Full rabid trinkets, rampager’s amulet.
Buffs
Koi Cakes or Rare Veggie Pizzas for 40% condition duration.
Quality tuning crystals (or the step above if you really want to waste money)
Utilities
Elixir H – Chosen for use with HGH. Protection is great.
Elixir B – Again, chosen for use with HGH, and is your main source of swiftness.
Elixir S – I personally save this almost exclusively to stomp, but it occasionally lets you get out of some sticky situations. Will completely mitigate someone’s spike if you time it correctly.
Toolkit – I love this utility. It gives you access to some great skills, which are:
2: Box of Nails – Comparable to thieve’s caltrops, but on a 10s recharge. Great for kiting.
3: Pry Bar – Not only does the initial hit do some big damage, but if you run this build, you will find a large chunk of your damage comes from confusion. If paired with the pistol’s Static Shot, you can throw on 7 stacks of confusion, which at times does over 1,500 damage per skill use.
4: Gear Shield – Excellent skill for WvW. 3 second block lets you run through zergs, mitigate spikes, and keep people at bay.
5: Magnet – My personal favorite, especially in WvW. It’s a great skill to open up fights with, but I use it all the time to catch fleeing foes. Can’t count the number of times I’ve killed people just feet away from their keep door thanks to this.
Supply Crate – An extremely powerful elite, it has the potential to completely turn fights around. Not only does it drop turrets to immobilize & burn your foes, it also comes with medpacks that you can pick up for a few extra thousand health. Best of all, the initial drop comes with a 2 second stun, which makes it excellent for spiking.
Well, I think that’s about it. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
(edited by Shanks R Us.2489)
Probably because they were bored.
I’d like to see videos of you beating thieves who are trying to gank you open field in WvW. Those videos need to show you being taken by surprise, because that’s the problem. I don’t doubt you can do it, I just want to see how it’s done. We L2P losers need some graphical aids sometimes.
Happens all the time. I usually win. I don’t run my video 24/7, so I couldn’t show you their initial burst, but most of the clips in my videos that start mid-fight with a thief began with him trying to gank me.
Also, forest, tiger is only 40+ pvp.
A solution which would work for me, and anyone else who wanted to see their back piece more than show off, is just let the hobosack be hidden for the client. Serverside, you might look like a rich guy wearing a sack of doodie on his back, but, for the player behind the engineer, you’ll look like you have your actual amazing backpiece equipped.
It’s a dirty fix, but at least we could stare at the sparkles instead of the shiznibit. It’s also easy to implement, the server would just check if option x was on, then either send or don’t send the over-writing pack to the client, while everyone else still sees it so we aren’t OP in pvp (or whatever reason they contrived to tell us we must wear hobosacks).
My two cents.
People in games like these like to look pretty so they can show everyone else how pretty they are.
I never really considered mesmers to be a very mobile class. At least in pvp, they’re usually slow. I mean, they’ve got blink and portal, but that’s it. I personally don’t think the thief should get the condi, I’m ok with mesmers & necro, though.
Never stop moving, dodge a lot. Try to not let your health go very low. If you can, time their stealth, predict how long it takes them from the start of their stealth [when refuge ends, or when the smoke field wears off. Most thieves will hop back & forth between their smoke field to chain stealth, otherwise it doesn’t last long] and think about how long it takes for them to walk to you. Throw down box of nails, gear shield, or dodge. If you’re low and he dazes you [with venom] & you think you’ll die, pop your elixir S.
Lets get something straight, friends. You don’t have to do these, but everyone would prefer if you did.
Keep emotes on
/bow means duel to down
/threaten means duel to stomp
Help me rage less
Zerging sucks, lets get a fight club going at SBI south windmill again.
Why not just make our current backpacks… smaller? Or just add the option of hiding them seems to be the easiest thing.
Like the elementalist’s attunement swaps, Anet likes to make skill switching visible to other classes. I like the belt idea.
Then give us a little boon icon like Elementalists do depending on what kit we’re in, the back belts requires a complete new series of sprite design and is highly less likely to get implemented as such.
This actually seems like a good fix. Anet very rarely adds new content except in the form of skins, most of the “new” stuff are just functions of recycled things already in the game.

If by solo roaming you mean roaming around taking camps alone, I’d recommend speedy kits & grenades. If by solo roaming you mean running around by yourself killing people, I’d recommend toolkit & HGH if you like it. Supply crate for elite, rest is really up to you to play with & define with your playstyle.
Everything is decent except for the ELIXIR R change. That skill is pretty bad now if it’s true. Full endurance with a 45 second cooldown… that’s it?
There’s also that little part about it resurrecting you.
That’s because you throw 3 grenades & only drop 1 bomb.
I’m curious about this little part.
“Fix a bug that allowed Engineers to execute back to back heals by using the underwater transition.”
I wonder, then, if this is referring to using your main 6 heal, going underwater, and using F1 on the medkit?
This doesn’t seem like a bug to me & would be pretty disappointed if they somehow changed it.
