I think it would be nice if EVERY team didn’t NEED a guardian. Surely that is the definition of being overpowered? It is frustrating when you trying to find a pug and you cant find a guardian, or when you solo q and you got no guardian and they have one.

I dont want guardian to be nerfed. But I would like an alternative to be presented in the form of the warrior. I think if you buffed shouts and the tactics trait line they could could end up with a viable warrior bunker build:

1, Shake if off – grant this 4 seconds of stability to all those effected
2, Trait – reviver’s Might – change this to grants aegis to nearby allies when you use a shout (30 second internal cooldown)
3, Swap shrug it off with stronger bowstrings to make it an adept trait.
4, Lower the cooldown of fear me to 60 seconds

Anyone got any other ideas? They should make bunker warrior viable in comparison to guardian BUT must not make dps warriors brokenly op.

Having an alternative to Guardian midpoint bunker would be nice, but that alternative should not be making another class too similar to it.

Please, tone down those guardians. I’m sick of seeing how strong they are… ALL team rely on one: it is SO essential, that nobody question it.

Those who think otherwise, ask yourself: if you were to choose between necro, s/d thief, spirit ranger or guardian for your team, what would you take ?

Anyway, well done Azshen and Teldo for saving your team from disaster. Too bad for CC, they deserved victory too.

BTW I agree, both guardians did an amazing job at staying alive under extreme burst

Chill should affect initiative regen the same way it affects weapon skill recharge for other classes, period.

Fact is that TP were well rested and fresh and did not played 4 match before the finals.

One could also say that they weren’t even warmed up and had to play grand finals just like that.
There are two faces on each medal.

BTW, players who play all day long don’t feel tired after 8 matches with plenty of rest in between -.-

3. Then we have the Bo5 situation. I’ve watched the tournament and I knew that the match should have been Bo3 but, after 3 match has been played, Grouch stated it will be a Bo5. It completely surpried me and, in fact, I’ve checked the tournament rules just in case I’ve misreaded something but, oddly, rules said everywhere that the final match is Bo3.
Now, changing the rules on the fly right before the match is not-so professional, but what surprises me is that CC won the Bo3 and, again, such an extraordinary action as been taken again in favour of TP.

Now I do now question that TP is a great team formed of great players and they have won because of their efforts, but all of these coincidence can’t be ignored.
If there is nothing behind all of this, then I don’t know what to think.

I knew it was going to be BO5 way before the matches started, you might want to pay more attention to chat/what they say during/before matches

So much for sportsmanship.

If you don’t agree with something that gets changed right before finals start, you speak up front. If you got disqualified for that, you can complain all day long and everyone would agree with you.
Coming on the forum to complain after a loss, is just being sore losers, and if that’s how CC (well, just 2 of the team actually) is, than it’s better that they didn’t make it to PAX.

One should always be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

There were a lot of other spectators in that match whenever Grouch opened up the team roster. Who were all of those? Not to mention you can also get a lot of information on splits and player positioning from what the minimap shows in the stream.

Other streamers, tournament was being casted in like 4-5 languages or something like that

I’m pretty sure builds are not being shown to avoid wasting time, if you spend 30s on each player, that’s 5 minutes spent on builds each time…
If you’re curious you could just ask the players after the match, although builds are pretty much the same since 1999 (with the few new-meta exception ofc)

As for the other stuff, yeah someone who doesn’t play GW2 has no chance to understand anything about the game by watching these events.

Straight up damaging skills should never ever have instant cast times without a global cd between them.
This was a problem on Rift at the beginning as well, warriors could make macros with reactive skills, press one button and 4-5 skills would go off at the same time…then devs realized that it was broken (warriors were really op in that timeframe), and introduced a 0.5s cd between those reactive abilities.
Something should be done here as well, imo.
Speaking for my class, either add a 0.25/0,5 s cast time to currently instant damaging abilities (Lightning Strike and Arcane Blast/Wave), or put a gcd between them (like it was done for mesmer shatters)

Despite I like that Dhumfire got even before the tournement I dont think that this will change anything. Average/good necro is still able to 1shot targets by conditions since the burst time is underneath the 2 sec. Its the combination of burning, bleeding, fear, torment and terror which makes the necro so powerful. A necro in the current meta is not going for a long fight he spikes you with conditions and 3 ticks of burning less won’t change much :/.

Remove it completely would have been the better option.

Well, at least burning got reduced from 6 to 3 seconds (accounting condi duration and kitten), so if you somehow survive being obliterated by the initial burst, you can be safe…maybe >.<

Guild Wars is a very different game from Guild Wars 2. I understand the sentiment (I myself was a Guild Wars player, Spearmen 44/50!), but we did not build a new game to be just like an old one. While we can certainly gain inspiration from it, comparing the two skill systems is not very helpful because they are vastly different.

Then why call it Guild Wars?

Because the game world is the same, because the lore is the same, etc..
Having the same name and being a sequel does not mean that the gameplay should remain the same (if you want an example, look at the Final Fantasy games, same name, totally different world and gameplay each time)
Otherwise they could have just upgraded GW1 graphic engine :p

Nothing is ever good enough for you. Have you read this entire thread? I have read a large majority of it and many of the posts involve a nerf to the Necro damage. And want to get rid of fire completely but as she said this is a hotfix for the tournament and more changes will come later.

Usually you give and take. You don’t nerf a class into the ground and promise to fix it later. This is bad design, plain and simple.

lol, nerf to the ground…for god’s sake you don’t even know how they split the trait and you’re already crying.
BTW, I don’t think they took everything away from necros when they buffed them from zero to hero last month. What was that? give and take? lol.

Irregardless of the weight of his opinion, this is a real faux pas and total legal nightmare. Even if jokingly said, the company is legal hand-tied and cannot allow him to participate at PAX because of massive liability they would find themselves under.

Now, for the quals, thats another story though if you’re going to be running with a fifth come when it actually matters, wouldn’t it be better to play with the fifth from the get-go?

Couldn’t they just, don’t know, search him for weapons (lol) and stuff if they’re so scared about a random guy from sweden coming and shooting jonathan sharp in the head?

Why should they go through the trouble of doing it? And whose to say he doesn’t bring the weapons and does the deed before the inspect him? Whose to say he doesn’t sneak in?

Anyways, as long as Arenanet doesn’t invite him, they share no responsibility in his actions.

Finally, why should arenanet treat him different from anyone else? Because he is popular among a subset of gamers?

in usa every threat (even if joking) on the internet is taken very seriously. a few days ago i read on the news that some fan of some artist that has a song called “time bomb” (or something), wrote on facebook “ready to take my time bomb to the show” and he was banned from that show so…

kitten it man, I wanted to see TP vs Den at pax, that woulda been amazing. Guess I gotta wait til next time. :/

Players are funny….they don’t want us listening to the forums….but then they can be mad when we don’t listen to their feedback.

WE CAN’T WIN!

This is because you’re getting feedback about two game types and only applying half of what you hear to the whole. As a PvE player I feel cheated and if you stepped out of the PVP forum to hear about what MOST OF THE PLAYERS OF YOUR GAME have to say you might have a better idea of what needs to be done.

But there’s a big tournament coming up and I don’t PvP so I have to take the fact that I’m blatantly undervalued as a player and customer and head to the back of the line again. I plan on shelfing this game and the ~$30-40 dollars a month I put into it because I believed in your philosophy until you decide to do what was effective in your first game and split the balancing for PvP and PvE.

pve players are so undervalued that they get new content every 2 weeks…
please, keep it real -.-

People complaining about being outnumbered and not being able to escape. That’s a personal issue down to your positioning especially in a condition build, if you’re running power axe/dagger I guess that’s to be expected due to these weapons being 130/600 range(But we’re talking about condi necros on this thread, right?). When you can range from 900/1200 your positioning is key, that’s survivability in itself. The increased buffer on death shroud is just too much for the current damage output. If you decrease the survivability of the death shroud you remove a lot from pvp in terms of other specs.
The option that makes the most sense is lowering the damage/removal of dhuumfire. Giving a necromancer the incentive of getting 30% condition duration and more (burning/retal/chill proc @ 25%) for running a condition build is ludicrous unless they’re insanely squishy, which necromancers inherently aren’t especially with death shroud.

That’s why I suggested making them a midrange class. If they have to be at melee to 900 range traited for their ranged weapons, then they don’t have that cushion and the DS changes become justified.

What about lack of mobility and stun beaks? How about the closers other classes have. They will catch you if they want to.

Last I checked, plague signet, spectral armor, spectral walk and well of power break stuns. If you run without one, it’s your choice :P

So you don’t play with any defensive utilities and don’t take access to your many forms of vigor and still find a way to play competitively? You have nothing to say because you are incorrect. The Necro has less access to their core mechanic than you do. You have essentially a free heal every 10 seconds, free boons, and a get out of jail free card if you are smart and run dagger off hand.

A condi necromancer barely has time to build the damage to absorb it, is naturally squishy, and has no method of escape, so yes the ability to absorb a single hit every ten seconds is absolutely fair.

All of the stuff you listed for ele, comes from traits…
Free heal every 10 seconds? that’s 45 trait points in arcana and water (and you can’t have that if you want to run fresh air). Free boons? that’s a trait. The “get out of jail free” card doesn’t work if you’re immobilized, and since there is no specific “remove immobilize” skill, you have no control on which condition you’re cleansing…yeah, removing that immobilize among other 6 conditions is gonna be easy (luckily necros don’t have immo…unless you get caught by DS5 last tick.)
Do you know that elementalists ARE FORCED to spend FIFTY points in defensive traits just to not get utterly destroyed by a butterfly that hit them in the face?
So yeah, being able to absorb 13k damage hits with 1k lifeforce DS, as a class mechanic, is stupid, broken, and cannot be defended by any rational man.

Seems like some people don’t realise that the treb can fire faster than you can regen endurance naturally. Spoiled by vigor and regen traits I guess.

Now go back to complain about how you can’t tank 13k hits with 10% life force anymore

go back to mist forming every 60 seconds while stomping thus avoiding all the 13k damage or simply dodging all of it and then knowing that your easy access to vigor will allow you to do it more than once in a blue moon. Or simply use anyone of your other elementalist bag of tricks to avoid the damage knowing that the 40-60 second CD is all you have to worry about.

We’re Tpvp’ing in Khylo this week, and I had a perfect example of the not-so-tough DS issue vs classes that can block, go invulnerable, perma-evade etc.

Ever try to bunker/hold Clocktower while it’s been treb as a necro? As a guardian and mesmer, I can go invulnerable at the right time to even stomp while eating a treb shot. As a necro, you change into DS to “absorb”, and gasp, with the new change you lose all your DS and almost all your life in one shot + the knockback. Even if you try to stomp by shifting to Plague (good way to waste a 3 min CD elite btw) to prevent the knockback, you still eat it full blast and normally will go down.

I repeat, I can bunker this with other classes while being trebbed, so there is definitely something wrong with our substain tool when it’s all we have.

Also about our Spectral Armor, if nobody hits us we gain nada, 0. For a 60 sec cooldown, it’s easy to see it’s wasted potential. If it said “If you’re not hit, gain 20% at the end” or something like that, it would be better I think. Any burst class just have to wait 6(!!!) seconds and then can burst us with us winning 1 single % Lifeforce.

I also hate the feeling when I “burst” into a 0 taking-damage Warrior, but who’s fault is it really, I had to watch more closely their buffs/effects. At least some class can run away and come back when their burst cooldown are back on, we’re stuck there until the end, one way or another.

could u look at issue with single target skills not hitting the target that u have selected its dire to try and fight any profession with pets/clones/turrets as they often take the ability with a body block

It’s intended. Projectile based skills get intercepted by walls/players/clones/bump in the floor.

Yea, it was a typo.
If you wish to makeTerror a GM trait, then move Greater Marks back to adept level.
Condi specs are really worthless without both.
In return, the SR fear duration trait can be made GM again.

I’m pretty sure condi specs could just go 0/30/20/0/20 or whatever.

they’re not asking to skip it because they don’t like it, they’re asking so that they can practice for the big tournament (not everyone has a custom arena, or you can’t always find other teams willing to scrim, etc..)

I love how the answer to stopping necros is a very specific build which is suggested that every team runs. [Stunlock warrior]

I’ve never heard that for shatter mesmer or guardian bunker or s/d elementalist.

What do you mean you’ve never heard that for guardian bunker? Why do you think people bring condis in the first place? To kill berserker amulets with 1800 armor?

There is a big difference between having to bring one specific class with one specific build (CC warrior) and having to bring one genetic class with one “specific build” (a condi class)

I love your suggestions and also agree that weakening dhuumfire to something not so crazy could open up the possibility for more builds like you said 0/30/10/0/30 or even 0/30/20/0/20 and people that still want maximum pressure could still use the weaker dhuumfire. (whatever it may be changed to)

I would even suggest removing dhuumfire from spite and adding it to curses (master or grand master) while (maybe) changing it to torment instead of burning. One would lose the condition duration from spite, balancing the current condition pressure of the necromancer severely, but instead get another unique condition to
cover for the main damage source (bleeds). You would still be able to get a good amount of bleed duration from curses (hemophilia, lingering curse) or even runes and not lose a lot of damage if able to keep your stacks on target. The spite tree just fits way too well with all of the ways a condition necromancer does damage and even includes chill of death (boon strip and chill + good damage) which is a very powerful master trait.

I think dhuumfire is fine there in Spite, however burning has no reason to be a necromancer’s condition, and replacing it with torment could be a nice idea (like 3 stacks of torment for 4s, with 10s icd? don’t know, I’ll let others balance that stuff :p) and would “fit the class”

Well, the idea behind a necromancer is to get in the fight and either die or kill.

That`s why necros got high damage and as of the last patch good sustain. They nerfed the fear and I think they should adjust the overall damage of burning in the game which is too high in my opinion.

Besides that I think it`s pretty balanced.

Position is really important when it comes to necros because if we are not careful we can still be bursted down pretty quick.

When plague is on CD and we just died and have no Life Force we are very killable.
For me it makes sense that the more you fight a necro the harder it will be.
Hard CC and high burst are our weaknesses. Most necros have 1 break stun on their utility slots.

What you suggest is to nerf all condis in this game which is impossible.

You are correct that no life force = very easy to kill necro, but with the proper build you will be swimming in life force very fast. The build being 30/20/0/0/20 with spectral armor as a utility. Necros are by no means squishy and beyond that do glass cannon level damage on top of cc and control conditions.

And I actually didn’t suggest anything. So these imaginary suggestions you say I mentioned are definitely impossible considering they are imaginary.

You just said the damage is too high. That basicly means nerf the damage. If their going to nerf the damage they`ll need to nerf not just necro but all the condis of every class.

The trait has a CD and I don`t think that using a utility slot for spectral armor is really good. I think there are other utilities that do the job better or are better for your team.

If you think it`s op stop using it.

Let me give you an exemple:

Necros have condis that can be cleansed.
A backstab thief can hit up to 8-10 k.
A s/d thief have evades and great edurance regen and besides that they steal boons and still have a good damage output..
100b Warrior can hit up to 12 k in a couple of seconds.

Why do you cry so much about condis when that are other classes that make the same damage but way faster.

I suggest people to get more condi removal.

A diffrent aproach to dhuumfire or just nerfing the burning is a great too balance the “way too high damage” of necro.

You really don’t get it
a) backstab thief got a 8k burst, true, but all it takes is a dodge or an invulnerability to negate ALL that damage, and it’s usually on long cd/has a cost to it (4s revealed, initiative cost, etc.)
b) s/d thieves spams dodges, true, but it can’t dish all that damage on the whole team when fighting over small nodes (kyhlo’s clocktower, niflhel keep, etc..)
c) not even going to comment on warriors, lol…

the problem with necros, is that they do A kittenLOAD of damage, which is unavoidable unless cleansed (good luck cleansing 7-8 condis with the “I’ll let you cleanse a random condi instead of the last/first one”), has no easy-to-read animation (it’s not like warrior’s bull rush, for example) and is frigging aoe

Also, some classes CANNOT get all that condi removal…hell mesmers have no condi removals at all (guess which class recently disappeared from the meta)
Condition-heavy meta is broken, period.

Problem with necro, is they can indeed dish out too much condition damage while having good defense once they get some life force (we’re talking about a ~40k health pool at full life force for a necro with rabid amulet and a 30/20/0/0/20 build, give or take)
10 stacks of bleeding + burning + poison + weakness/chill/cripple to cover them + terror is something like 3k damage per second…that’s a condi burst, not a condi pressure, and it’s AoE as well. And I didn’t even mention torment.
However, I have no idea how to balance necro damage without reducing condition damage across the board.

Placing stunbreaker on weapon sets is stupid. If else, no weapon set should have such an advantage (usually on short cd as well)
That being said, I agree that some skills make no sense as a stunbreaker (speaking for my class, Glyph of Elemental Power) or are just too weak to justify its usage (Mesmer’s Signet of Midnight, for example)

And its certainly more importtant than the fact that necro autoattakcs a mesm once and eats half his hp pool

I know, right? you should be punished for pressing keys fast and rewarded for autoattacking enemies to death.

lol sure just glance over the fact that you Ele’s have been yammering on about dealing 12-20k damage with instant cast, zero flight time abilities.

Oh ho, but it takes 9 buttons to do it you say! So let me ask you, do you prefer the full face plant on the keyboard, the face-plant-and-roll, the wax-on/wax-off full keyboard wipe, or the simple kitten -plant and fart on the keyboard (my personal fav)?

I prefer to throw a double punch on the left side of my keyboard, to make sure I don’t miss anything.

If you are knocked down while in DS, you are knocked out of DS for 10 seconds. So if I am on the ground and it’s on a 10 sec CD how am I supposed to activate it.

Is this a new change? or maybe i spend a whole year in this game and didn’t know about this one.

Can someone please test this and correct me if i’m wrong.

I can tell you for sure that the dodge train golem (that pushes you back) and the engineer npc (which knocks you back with rifle) don’t kick you out of DS.
I can tell you for sure that knockdown (earthquake) doesn’t kick you out of DS.

To summarize,

So you don’t want a thief excelling in DPS.
So you don’t want a thief excelling in mobility.
You don’t want a thief excelling in survivability.

Short version;

You clearly don’t want to have a thief. You want to have your own little version of a wet towel thief. You probably want him to get kited to death while you are in your airplane dropping bombs on him.

For the time being, I am pretty sure this thread will lead “If you are a Mesmer reroll to a Necromancer”.

Warriors are popping up and players are rerolling from their mesmers. Guess we have got many players that want to do things easy cheesy fotm.

To continue my previous post.

First of all claiming that a mesmer is not only viable but rerolling to something else is the way to go is absolutely BS.

Let us look closer in which situations a Mesmer will not belong to any meta;

1.When portal and illusion of life is removed from the class.
2.When another classes has portal and illusion of life.
3.When one class has got portal and another class has got illusion of life.
4.When there is nothing unique about the class and everyone can do better than mesmer in everything.

Advantages with Team comps with a Mesmer

1.Portal, Illusion of Life, Moah or Stealth (the most fundamental team utilities for plays and counterplays, openings and so on and so forth in game right now).
2.Artificial Intelligence/A.I – Strong by itself, compliments other A.I comps i.e Spirit Rangers.

Regarding the implications of meta in the sense of meaning shifting;

a.When the meta shifts it doesn’t mean automatically that a class that has been the best close-holder (adding up like we said portal, illusion of life and moah or stealth) is not viable. It means thakittens fundamental role has change/is different.
b.Roles have changed in this meta (who goes where and who does what).
c.Focus has changed in this meta (who goes down first in order)
d.Classes that have adapted are thieves (Sustained Damage), Warriors (CC) and engineers (Aggressive far-pointers and close-defenders to death).

Mesmers need to realize their role since guarding/protecting their close is not their role anymore but rather “roaming”. They need to concentrate on two builds

1.Full condition Glass Cannon or High Condition Bunker with sword/pistol and scepter/focus or one of them as offhand with Staff.
2.Mass support.

If you keep on insisting that there is no meta for a mesmer now, then you openly state that Portal, Illusion of Life, Stealth or Moah and A.I are completely useless. If you keep on insisting that there is no meta for a mesmer now, then I am pretty sure you are the laughing stock of every single warrior right now. You get the drift.

Every single time where balance discussion was on, everyone agreed that Necromancer and Warrior were not as effective as other classes so to come out and state that suddenly a monster-class such as the mesmer is out of meta is sad, pathetic and weak. You are not even to the warrior’s state yet you claim or you pretend to be and justify your delusional position on the matter. Its like because you can’t one-shot or troll people with GS from a range then that is the end of your class.

Maybe it is time to man up and suck it up to the challenge.

Mesmers haven’t been close point holder for like months (since bm rangers stole their spot), and have been roamers since then. However, given their lack of condition removal, they have NO PLACE in the current condition spammy meta. And if they want to have condition removal, they have to remove either portal or illusion or life (or both), which leads to the question: why bring a mesmer in the first place?

1600 gems for custom arena

My guild does alot of ingame events and we´d like to host a tournament once a month. Problem is we´d only be willing to pay the initial cost of 1600gems and then only add tokens when we host these events. It´s ridiculous that our CA would be deleted if we don´t keep adding tokens to it. I´d much rather be able to re-activate it whenever I want instead of having to buy a new CA kit for 1600 gems once my old one gets deleted ( what were you thinking anet?)

We are a 500member guild on the Gandara server and imo Arena Net has made a big mistake as it would be guilds like us that introduce more /new players to spvp.

PvP = 0 gold, 0 gold = 0 gem

Still, PvP has the most expensive consumable non-permanent item in the gemstore.

The idea is to get real $$$ from pvpers with those arenas. With 500 people in your guild, with less than 10cent/month each you could mantain a couple CA with no issues

what a great idea, i’m sure all their members will be excited for this tax
