My guild does alot of ingame events and we´d like to host a tournament once a month. Problem is we´d only be willing to pay the initial cost of 1600gems and then only add tokens when we host these events. It´s ridiculous that our CA would be deleted if we don´t keep adding tokens to it. I´d much rather be able to re-activate it whenever I want instead of having to buy a new CA kit for 1600 gems once my old one gets deleted ( what were you thinking anet?)
We are a 500member guild on the Gandara server and imo Arena Net has made a big mistake as it would be guilds like us that introduce more /new players to spvp.
PvP = 0 gold, 0 gold = 0 gem
Still, PvP has the most expensive consumable non-permanent item in the gemstore.
The idea is to get real $$$ from pvpers with those arenas. With 500 people in your guild, with less than 10cent/month each you could mantain a couple CA with no issues

The sPvP player base was pretty much at the lowest possible level it could be. There is nowhere left to go but up…….I suspect that the increase in numbers is tied specifically to the Achievement Rewards. All of a sudden PvE Focused players are swarming the Mists. They aren’t here to play they are just here trying to gain a little AP. I haven’t seen this many Lowbie Ranks in sPvP since Launch. Don’t worry JS, they’ll all be gone before you know it.
Yeah, numbers are so much rising that queueing solo takes a long time, even during prime time, and you end up against premades anyway…so many people playing.
Oh yeah, but hotjoin population is all that matters, gogo pvers farming achievements for the ap chests!
You call that a burst?
First of all get a Focus.
Zap him a little with Arc Lightning to add Vulnerability and start shaving off some of that Death Shroud health.
Then Gale – Lightning Strike – Dragon’s Tooth – Phoenix – Comet – Arcane Blast – Lightning Flash – Arcane Wave – HurlThis is potentially the highest burst, but there’s really no need to involve Earth attunement, Water autoattack is very good and even the Water Trident packs a 2-3k crit when traits align.
Why this works? Damage increasing factors:
20% – Tempest defence
20% – Bolt to the heart
10% – Scholar runes
10% – Stone splinters
5% – Vital striking
5% – Force sigil
If you play it right most of these will have an effect at one point or another, adding the combo up to 22k+ damage (Heavy dummy dies before you can unload everything)It doesn’t instagib a Necro with Protection (unlike Thieves and Mesmers), and it definitely shouldn’t, but Ele is definitely capable of taking on such a Necro and the OP-ness of Necros shouldn’t be judged by some Valkarie sustain build while Necro has it’s defences up.
The image below depicts ~23k damage on a Heavy Dummy in mere seconds. That comes after you could potentially be spamming Arc Lightning and Lightning Strike from a safe distance and before firing off Hurl and entering Hulk invulnerable mode.
And then there’s Fiery Greatsword with Bolt to the heart and Stone splinters trait. Massive damage, evasion, gap closing and creating.
You guys even trying to counter Necros? No, just rolling Necros.
Congratulations, you just did a combo with:
a) unviable build in competitive play
b) spells with cast times opposed to a fully instant burst
c) used one of the worst offhand weapon ever designed in a game
d) burned all your attunements, as opposed to just 2 (earth→ air)
But maybe you don’t know the difference between an instant burst, and a “several seconds” burst.
Also, a Warrior with an OH Shield can block all of this, but I’m not sure that makes Warriors OP in tPvP.

That is enormously situational and impractical. I’d be surprised if people started taking Spectral Armor in the first place.
That does not make it less broken. That burst combo deals anywhere from 10 to 17k damage depending on crits. Symbolic lost 20% life force. It’s broken.
Both. Spectral armor, then going into death shroud with protection up, and taking 20% life force damage from a full earth-air elementalist burst combo (hurl-earthquake-lflash-air discharge-lightning strike-double arcana-rtl)

I seriously hope this gets addressed before saturday, can’t go into a competitive tournament with something game-breaking like that.

Also, you’re assuming every elementalist runs with mist form. I don’t. Phantaram doesn’t. Mogow doesn’t. Many other high profile elementalists (higher than me for sure, I’m just a random_elementalist_#1337) don’t. Yet I don’t come to the forums asking for elementalists to have better survival because I just got insta-gibbed from 4 stealth enemies.
Also, you can already start with 30% life force by swapping minion utilities, be it a bug or not, if you’re not doing that, then you’re doing something wrong.
What I see all the time, is people wanting to run glass cannon builds (be it necro, thief, warrior, whatever), and then complaining they have no survivability. It’s the same thing as an old-school warrior running with frenzy+bull’s charge+balanced stance (or whatever), running in with his one-trick-combo and then complaining he got no way to cleanse conditions (even when he could trait for remove condi on heals, run signet of stamina, etc..).
Now we see fotm necros running 30/30/10 with full offensive/cc oriented utilities (instead of say, flesh wurm to disengage, if los allows, or spectral armor), and then complaining they have no surv…

Don’t forget that you’re also doing tons of damage while you’re casting all those abilities. Is it really balanced to give you survivability AND glass-cannon damage all at once?
That depends on perspective. Do you believe glass cannon thieves with stealth and an instant 1200 meter teleport are balanced? Do you believe that scepter/dagger elementalists with the Mist Form Cantrip are balanced?
Those are prime examples of having glass cannon damage while being able to completely disengage from a fight.
Mist form has a SEVENTY-FIVE seconds cooldown, disables ALL your skills. It also takes up an utility slot.
Thieves teleport has an initiative COST and removes the thief from the fight (well, kinda)
Death shroud has a 10 seconds cooldown, allows the necro to: damage, teleport, fear, aoe damage, torment+immobilize, and depending on traits it can apply retaliation/weakness/whatever
don’t compare apples to oranges or melons.
BTW, I see a lot of complains about “necro getting gibbed from stealth openers”, but that’s a problem for every class. I’ve seen guardians getting insta-gibbed by such things….I guess the problem is with stealth stacking, not lack of survivability for class X (necro needs something to survive, but letting them start with half life force bar is not the solution, utilities are meant for stuff like that, imo.)

Death shroud is a second life bar. A necro already has 18.something thousand hps with rabid amulet (around 24k with carrion), if you let them have death shroud ready from the start, you would end up with a tanky character with something like a 30k health pool….just no.
For those comparing life force to a warrior’s adrenaline, I can only laugh…adrenaline won’t make the warrior harder to kill or pretty much “immune” to burst

The fix to the autobalance is the most kitten kitten thing I’ve ever read. Yeah it sounds great to make someone unable to play because the kid that just got killed left the game, forcing “spectator-balance”.
nobody uses longbow anyway, and I doubt competitive rangers will use a sub-par weapon just to stealth.
Breaking news: classes are not meant to be identical.
That’s why we get 2s of fury (which translate to pretty much perma-fury) as a minor trait instead of vigor-on-crit. And I would take that fury every time over vigor, it allows me to play with valkyrie and still have 40% crit chance.

Another patch comes, another month without solo que has passed.
Just fuse NA and EU already for s-tpvp so you can split solo and premades making, maybe, a decent world ladder also…can join with 5 ppl full premade or SOLO only, no 3+2pug and stuff…premades or solo, 2 world ladders and gg….easy? Yes. kittens given to this and pvp in general? 0

Necros will still play with 30/20/20 with staff recharge and greater marks instead of greater marks and reaper’s protection, and they will still obliterate the kitten out of everyone by spamming aoes (actually, they’ll spam more with -20% recharge).
Good job Anet, going for a big tournament with such an ugly skill-less meta.

That’s why you won’t have just one top player giving feedback, but a pool of “insert_number_here” of top players. Based on that, you can get a sort of “filtered” feedback, limiting the bias factor (one person might say that spirit rangers are op, 49 other might say it’s fine…). It would certainly be better than a forum full of “nerf 100b” or “nerf shatter” or whatever, shouted by every rank1 player who just started playing or by an hotjoin hero who never stepped into rated play.

What I don’t understand is why anyone complains about balance in a game where rerolling is easy. In Aion rerolling took months because of the gear grind. In this game it takes a few minutes.
Just reroll to the new fotm builds and win with them. No whining required.
Whether the skill floor is too low or too high is irrelevant in my mind. All I think about is winning and I don’t understand people who worry about other things.
Because some people don’t like having to resort to rerolling to fotm builds/classes. Not everyone is a bandwagoner, you know.
I just don’t think s/d is OP at all. every class has good builds and some can take a beating. At least s/d makes you learn how to use dodges. It is simply the only thief build that can last in a teamfight using melee. Thiefs are supposed to be agile lol
If you can’t see the problem with S/D thieves, I really don’t know what to say…
want to kill spirit rangers? while the ideas are good, you guys are a bit off. Sure you can knock down the spirits, but if the ranger build him/herself properly, the pet will or ranger itself can dish out almost just as brutal damage.
You don’t want to AOE spirits, you want to condition damage them. Apply freezing, poison and torment. Because the spirits will kill themselves following the ranger.
Also, spirit of frost has no ICD.
Spirit of Nature doesnt revive defeated enemies, only downed (see game nerf notes for march/april)You don’t seem to know this, telling me that you haven’t even tried to play a ranger, let alone a spirit ranger…. Spirits are useless before level 80, its a fact, so their OP ness, really only shine when you reach endgame, which is rare, considering most spirits can be unlocked before level 30.

They already stated it will be solo only.
Solo queue is definitely on the horizon. What everyone has been playing now will become ‘Team Arena’ (group queue), and we will additionally add a ‘Solo Arena’ (solo queue). The ratings will be split, and each will have their own leaderboard. We’re also planning on shipping a couple other long-standing requests with Solo Arena that many have been waiting for. A blog post will go into details about everything.
Rewards are high on our list. We’ve been coordinating with other teams, as it has a game-wide impact. They will certainly take some time to complete and you should expect to see Solo Arena much sooner.
You might want to hurry up and get that feature ready, unless you want a soloQ with no people left to queue in XD

Yeh some of the “top” players might be kitten because they all relied on the opness of mesmer/ele/guardian and now they are worse compared to necro they find out they aren’t really as good as they think they are.
Changes to the meta should be welcomed. If your personal class is worse then boo hoo. Necros had a class strictly worse than engi for 6 months +.
Should they nerf necro? Yes. Should we listen to everyone wanting the same old kitten with mesmer/ele/guardian being required in all teams? God no. Its lame.

Seriously, old D/D backstab one-shot thieves took more effort than S/D thieves today, at least they had to chain some actions together (unless they macroed it, but that’s another story.)

Actually it’s been stated before that it’s working as intended. Stunbreakers are STUNbreakers. Want to avoid all CC – get stability…
You know how stupid that sounds, even if it is intended? Because not every class can get stability when they want it, in these situations
And not every class has access to blowout
or knockback
or spammable stealth
or high burst on a 10s cd
or 3 fears which deal ~1.2k/s
or burning on crit
or permanent vigor/swiftness
or spammable dodge on weaponskill
or teleport on weaponskill/utility
or self-portal
or high healing
I could go on forever
point is, not every class is equal, that’s what makes a mmorpg what it is. Otherwise we would all be playing Quake.
There’s no way I should be only doing 106 damage per hit at lvl 66 is there? I am getting 3 shot destroyed by anything veteran, cannot do damage and cannot take it.
I am playing D/D with 0 0 0 26 30. Cannot finish lvl 62 story missions at lvl 66, got defeated twice by 3 lvl 55 grawl. I just do not seem to be able to fight anything.
I am not a noob, I have 5xlvl 80s but I just cannot get my head around why Elementalist is such utter weak ****.

Nice guide, but I still think that Valkyrie is superior to Soldier’s amulet in a team fight point of view. And S/D is superior to D/D right now anyway :p
The problem is that every team based game with a /resign functionality, also got a system to report afkers, and an automatic replay recording (think of all three big mobas, and sc2 as well), which make it easier to punish griefers.
In GW2, as it is now, if someone wants to surrender and the other 4 don’t, the one guy can go afk and ruin the game experience to the other team members. In LoL, you can’t, you get reported for afk, and can get suspended due to the Tribunal system.
That’s why one does not simply add a /forfeit command to a team-based game.
There is so much fail in that post, I don’t know where to begin.

people will still continue to use smurf accounts (they don’t have to pay monthly fee after all) when duo-tri queueing with some friends or when pugging with randoms, team ladder will always be meaningless untill it becomes a real team ladder with registered teams
soloQ ladder, on the other hands, will be more balanced.
I did a test on this today with my team’s ele.
I can EASILY eat a 5k+ combo without being able to stunbreak until it’s done.
Here’s what we tried out:
Ele: Lightning flash + Updraft -> (in midst of updraft – Arcane Wave + Blast) -> lighting 2
The above was a 100% guaranteed hit once you’re hit with updraft. By the time you’re able to stunbreak you’ve already eaten the full dmg of 5 skills (4 if you count out updraft not having any dmg)
How do you feel about that Arheundel? You think that it is right that (whatever you want to call them) launch or knockback CCs should be the only skills that stunbreaks fail to work properly against while every other CC you can instantly stunbreak out of?
I also tried combo’ing my backstab burst combo with his updraft combo and we bursted a necro at full hp down in 1s. And guess what? There is nothing he can do about it.
Mind you, blink stunbreaks are the better stunbreaks for these…if you tried to use a stunbreak like a mesmer’s decoy during this, you’re stuck in the same spot in which you are updrafted so you’re screwed even more.
and how will a stun break help you avoid instant skills that might still hit you before you have time to a) use your stun break b) dodge? those skills will hit you even if he doesn’t updraft you, btw, just need a keyboard with anti-ghosting and hit those instant skills all together. Good luck dodging, or rather, predicting when to dodge.

Really though, it’s very limited because of the wal thing as you said. Somehow I feel like it’ll be hard to convince pugs they should be luring it to a wall as well. When you can apply it though, it’s a very powerful trick.

Resign is a part of e-sports. When a player knows hes lost in SC2 generally he will quit because the game is over and there is little point in dragging it out.
In SC2, or any 1vs1 game, you quitting only affects you.
In any team based game, once one person wants to quit, it’s going to affect the rest of the team. That’s why in HoN/LoL/Dota2 you can’t surrender before a set amount of time, to avoid people going afk at the funtain and spamming /surrender after giving first blood in the first 2 minutes. To translate that in gw2 match time, that would mean no surrender before the 6 minute mark. But then you’ll need a tool to report afk people, and a system to punish them. Punish them hard.
@OP: Your reaction time is so fast that you let an elementalist walk close to you, in air attunement, and don’t even dodge to avoid the upcoming updraft (because, you know, there is only one reason for an elementalist in air attunement to come into melee range…)
Seems legit.
Not as important as in GW1 (not even close), but some sort of synergy is still required to maximize class potential

Umm, so? You keep describing skills we have, my answer is; So what? Everyone has immunities, everyone have stuns, your point is? Heck, I will even dare to say our stuns are REALLY hard to land, considering they are situational for the most part, and lately our “immunity” got nerfed to the ground since we cant heal while doing so…… so NO, thats are not "Strong points, sorry.
We can heal while invulnerable, fyi, it’s called switching to water and dodging, there you go, 4k hp healed without casting our heal skill, which becomes roughly 5k if you consider 3 ticks of regen+soothing mist in the 3s of invulnerability.
age restriction is fine, it’s the regional restriction that is bs.
It has also max power and max critical damage, so no, it’s not a bunker amulet. I didn’t know that a bunker could deal 15-18k damage in a burst rotation
