I have a suggestion.
What if we could “upgrade” Exotics into Ascended gear. Maybe something like an Ascendant Stone that could be crafted via crafting or Mystic Forge. Maybe we can get the recipe through a series of fun quests. The mats would the nothing too crazy, maybe just a bit harder than making exotic armor or weapons. You can then apply this upgrade to your exotic armor to turn it into ascended gear with the equivalent stat values.
That way, people with exotics don’t have to throw them away.
After reading the blog…you can see the items go up in LITERALLY 2 points per stat aka 10 to 12 precision etc etc…
Personally I kittening love you ANET…thank you for this. I can’t wait! If you feel 2 points of stats are going to be that big of a deal for dungeon content that scales you down ( except arah obviously ) and wvw…then well we simply disagree…WTB PvE Leaderboard website. Willing to help with its construction / maintaining.
You DO realize that Magic Find is the major stat point there? The total stat point increase from exotic to ascended isn’t just 2. It’s TEN points from the two minor stats alone. Add in the major stat and it’s probably more like 15. On a single item. Multiply that by 12 (6 armor pcs and 6 accessory pcs) and you’re looking at a stat increase of AT LEAST 180, and is probably closer to 200 since stuff like chest have bigger disparities, which is pretty big in my book.
And that’s not even considering the weapon, which traditionally has the biggest gap between item tiers. And has a damage increase.
You didn’t read the blog post right or you read what you wanted to read.
*November is introducing 2 items from the Ascended Gear line
- Back piece and Ring
- Ring Acquired in dungeon
- Back Piece acquired through recipe at mystic forge (not in dungeon)You need the infusion for the harder parts of the dungeon for the new condition type agony.
THERE ISNT ASCENSION WEAPONS IN NOVEMBER UPDATE (yes I went caps cause forum is blind)
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
December update will add more ascension gear
IN NOVEMBER we’ll unveil the first Ascended items. This new rarity type falls between Exotic and Legendary on the spectrum of rarity and has slightly higher stats than Exotics.
Ascended gear works a little bit differently than other gear types. The stats and functionality normally added to gear through upgrade components are actually built into Ascended items. Instead of upgrade slots, Ascended gear has Infusion slots, and rarer versions of the items also come with additional Agony Resistance built into them. Players will be able to acquire Ascended Rings in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon, and Ascended items worn on the back can be acquired through special Mystic Forge recipes.Dat comprehension
Am I saying otherwise? Where did I say that the other stuff are available already? What it DOES say is that Ascended weapons will get introduced at one point. And what I said is that the stat increase between exotic and ascended isn’t just “2 points” like the guy said.
Please, I don’t think I’m the one who needs comprehension.

The main thing I’m annoyed about is that my top tier gear is made obsolete so soon after launch. I mean, even WoW had like 6 months to a year between upgrades.
I feel stuff like this should have been in an expansion. It would have given people more time to get their heads around the concept rather than 5 days before the update.
Surely ArenaNet has people intelligent and creative enough to give people something to strive for that ISN’T gear treadmill?
It’s not gear threadmill. Gear threadmill system is where players have to grind for new gears “to explore new/higher contents”. This game already allows you to explore all 100% of the contents and future X/Y/Z content with the (white to exotic) armors. Ascended is really another option just like whether people choose to wear a fine, masterwork, rare or exotic gear to dungeon. All tiers can do dungeon raids well.
It’s not the stats. I’m a dungeon master who can easily do any dungeon except maybe a couple of arah paths without dying. but I’m opposed to this more out of a design/philosophical standpoint and the fact that it’s gonna be a slippery slope that might be too hard to resist once it gets going.
What’s stopping GW2 from implementing incremental places where better gear IS needed? Eventually dungeons and content will probably be hard enough that you would NEED those armor, and every future endgame content is designed around higher gear stats.
I could do UBRS, molten core on vanilla with mostly average gear, but vanilla Naxx? No way.
It might not happen, but hey, it’s better if they not implement this in the first place.

As a guy who’s done every dungeon in this game, and will most probably have the new dungeon armor sooner or later, this is what I think (if it does turn into a gear treadmill, which might not happen)
You might gain back some of those who want a gear treadmill. but at what price? These are the same guys who will move on to the next gear treadmill MMO after they get their max stat items again.
What you will risk to lose is the playerbase who don’t want a gear treadmill. How many MMOs can say that they have a great game without relying on treadmill. Not many I’m guessing. Why risk this base and try to compete with WoW? You can’t win against WoW by copying them. Too many MMOs have tried and failed. At this point, you have to do what AMD did to Intel in the early 2000’s (before they kittened up). They approached CPUs differently, making them more efficient rather than just bigger clock speeds.
Its basically a one step forward two steps back.
Then again, I’ll probably wait for the blogpost before complaining again.
One unintended side effect is that it might basically kill off every other dungeon in the game, unless you REALLY like the skin. It will also kill the exotic armor market as well.
Whatever would you want in a dungeon that would necessitate the need for magic find really? It doesn’t affect chests, which drop the only things (runes/cores/lodestones) worth anything in a dungeon. Sure, you can get a yellow, but unless you’re doing something like CM, you’d probably be fighting less enemies than your daily orichalcum ore run.
Not a drastic reduction, maybe something like 60-80 gold would be fine with me. Still hard, but a lot more achievable. It would still take the average guy months to get the money needed, provided they don’t purchase anything else (like stuff for alts, new accessories for different build, etc.)
Does it really make my character (human female) bald?
I’ve gotten 3 lvl 75+ exotics in 3 runs, a few BLTC items. I bet you could even get a skin.
Yep. Highest dps in PVE in melee
I wonder If you played with properly bult thieves….
Yes. Warriors still do more damage due to their innate survivability in PVE.

Yep the event won’t start.
Try using Yojack’s build if you want a condition warrior. The benefit is that you can get away with just using arms as your offensive trait tree and still get away with good damage and survivability. Condition warriors don’t purely rely on the condition damage, but the damage of the sword as well, so a toughness/prec/CD build will be mediocre in terms of damage.
