I always thought that ascended weapons and armor would have made much more sense with bigger additions to the game, like an expac or content with substance. Introduce them when everything is fresh and people are willing to do actual content so it feels less like a grind and more like something you’ll get because just playing.
Because right now, I’m sure most people are already sick and tired of grinding dungeons, grinding world bosses, farming champs and whatever ascended weapons and armor will entail. Players have already done it for months and months, and they’re being told that they’d have to do it again just to retain being BiS.
I think at the very core, many people are against Ascended because it just adds more things to do without actually adding anything. Whenever a new item tier went up in WoW, it came with actual content like raids or maybe a new battlegrounds or a new dungeon. Combine this with the fact that we’ve seen little changes to the world and the game over these past few months (unless you consider things like champ bags substantial content), and the little we do get to see is temporary- well, you kinda understand the disappointment.
If they’d done something like open the Crystal Desert, make ascended mats drop from enemies there and the raw materials mine-able from nodes, then you’d see a lot less complaints, as getting the ascended would also be part of the exploration of these new parts of the game.
My main complaint is that it’s an incredible bore to get these ascended. WoW had a bigger treadmill, but you had a modicum of fun trying to learn raids, get bosses down to pay, and perfect what you do. I don’t look forward to participating in the massive lagfests that world bosses will become (even greater than they were before).
They should just make most of the mats tradeable. I play only around 2 hours most days now, and the likelihood that I will miss something like a dragon boss or a temple is quite high.
MOst of the mats are tradeable.
Only the ingots from what I see in Dulfy. The REAL important ones (dragonite ore, bloodstone dust, etc.) are account bound, and can only be obtained in very specific places. Plus you need 100 each of them.
Pile of Bloodstone Dust, Account Bound (Refines into Bloodstone Bricks, requires Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Champion loot bags
Dragonite Ore, Account Bound (Refines into dragonite ingots, Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Comes from Temple chests in Orr, Megabosses, and Keeps and Castles in WvW.
Empyreal Fragments, Account Bound (Refines into Empyreal Stars, Artifice/Huntsman/Weaponsmith 450) – Comes from dungeons, mini-dungeons, jumping puzzles and camps/towers in WvW.
Glob of Dark Matter, Account Bound – Obtained only from salvaging exotics.
Augur’s Stone, Account Bound – Purchased for skill points from Miyani near the mystic forge. Costs 20 skill points.
Thermocatalytic Regeants – Brought from vendors (10 for 14 silver 96 copper)
They should just make most of the mats tradeable. I play only around 2 hours most days now, and the likelihood that I will miss something like a dragon boss or a temple is quite high.
Assassins will probably become poor mans berserker gear. between the crit on berserker, the common ability to maintain furry, and asorted traits to boost crit chance there is little need for more precision in most glass cannon builds hence why power> precision. It may be a good second best for folks that cant aford berserker but will probably only be a steping stone at best and you can do that with rares even cheeper.
I expect to see some rise but not enough to be worth investing in claws.
Berserker barely has a price difference with other stat combos, so if you can afford this, you can afford a berserker.
Anyway, I think this stat combo is best used to mix and match with berserker to get your ideal crit rate if you so desire high crit percentages.
You also need 100 each of stuff like Dragonite Ore and Bloodstone Dust. Now, I don’t know how many will drop from a world boss, but I’m guessing not that much, so you’re looking at grinding quite a bit of dungeons, world bosses, champs, and do quite a bit of WvW to get your mats.
Ecto reached 40+ silver during the weeks after they mass banned the farmer bots. It was at a low of like 12 silver during the botting peak.
I use a hybrid BM/dps build 20/20/0/0/30. I find that the survivability of my pet is pretty high, excepting those encounters where death is inevitable (Subject Alpha, etc.)
My mesmer is more of a battlemage. Wearing pseudo plate armor and primarily a melee fighter.
In b4 1 crafting level per day (100 days to reach 500)
It has high demand because it’s the go-to rune for people who can’t decide or aren’t willing to go for a specialized rune.
You have to understand that people want the best. They aren’t gonna be satisfied with exotics because that means having to settle for less. It doesn’t matter if it’s needed or not in PVE or whatever. It’s just human nature.
At the same time, most people don’t really want some ridiculous grind just to be where they were before. Ascended would probably be fine for most people, as long as it was available at a reasonable cost and within a reasonable amount of time, as well as other avenues to get them.
You aren’t gonna convince people that exotics are “almost” as good as ascended, just as you aren’t gonna convince people that they could just wear rares.
I wonder how long it will take to outfit my 8 characters in ascended weaponry. I’ll probably have moved on long before accomplishing that.
If dungeons were really for skins, then they should just make them applicable skins. No more of using this transmutable stone kitten.
Would we suddenly be crafting exotics now to reach 500? Because even with the increased gold and drop rates, it would be one hell of a money sink still.
Any of the servers with large PVE communities (TC, JQ, BG, especially) should win more often than not. The problem is that it’s difficult to actually enter the server map unless you’re very fast.
I don’t mind either way. I farm as well, but I do help when I notice that completion is possible. But I don’t get bothered when it fails, since it doesn’t matter either way.
True. 1 year later is definitely enough time to start back on the main story again. Hopefully this arc is wrapped up this update, and the next one begins a new one, as I feel that it’s becoming a bit stretched out already. Hell, I’ve spent more time fighting aetherblades than the relatively short time it took to beat Zhaitan in the PS.
So, we’ve gone through 40+ invasions without a single Frostgorge? That’s pretty dumb.
I don’t know about other servers, but when I manage to actually be in server on an event, I get to farm AND win the event, so both things are not mutually exclusive. Hell, I’ve even won quite a bit on overflows.
Alphonese Elric would like a word with you.
I didn’t care for Scarlet because I had no connection with her. She never popped up except for this LS (with a brief cameo during the Gauntlet). It’s like the LOTR trilogy with Sauron being introduced only during the assault on Barad-dur. There was no buildup, no interweaving themes (except for episodic villains like the Pirates and Molten alliance). If we could have gotten smaller clues during the previous LS, it would have tied everything together and made the whole story more cohesive.
I just sold mine. 20silver or so.
It’s Pay-to-Look-Good
Gems are like bonds or mutual funds, you know you’ll make money out of them at some point, but it will take a long time.
Only the new skins after the change are tradeable.
Maybe they need that item but want to save a couple of silver? They could be on their way to bed, and want the buy order fulfilled the next day. Not everybody puts buy orders for flipping. It could be they have need ectos for legendaries, rares for use for mystic forge, etc. etc.
Look, give me all your items and misc stuff, and I’ll gift you not one, but TWO 500 gem skins of your choice, 10 XP boosters plus an 18 slot bag. That way, you can feel good about getting the Heroic version while basically “deleting” your progress. Heck, I’ll give you all of the three skins for that.
If you want that kitten, does it matter if it’s new or not? It’s not worth fussing over.
Spears and polearms for sure. Crossbows as a slow but heavy damage alternative to bows (though it wouldn’t make sense since they already have pistols and rifles in Tyria).
I willed myself through it once, but I could never do it again since it’s an incredible chore to me.
Well to be fair, I remember playing Prophecies and being underwhelmed by the skins available in general. It took quite a few years for the GW1 weapon repertoire to really flesh itself out.
People have different taste. Surprising.
You got them for 500 gems outright IIRC, which seems like a helluva bargain now.
They really should put a description if that’s true. New players will likely be confused.
Well there’s the cat pet, but I don’t recall if that was offered before.
I think it’s a limitation of the game engine. It’s probably easier to add detail and design larger weapons like GS and hammers than smaller ones like daggers. The staff is basically a long stick, and there’s really only so much variation you can do with it. The hammer, you’re designing the head, with the handle being the same. The GS is a wide and large weapon where you can customize nearly everything from the blade to the hilt.
What I’d like to see is more variations of the smaller weapons, like a flail for the mace or a katar for daggers, though I’m not sure if it would be any easier to implement.
I’m past the stage where I can take MMOs far too seriously. I spent a lot of time being hardcore in games like WoW, FFXI, Allods Online, RO, Rift – you name it, I probably played it at some point. Always striving to be one of the best characters, always aiming for top PVP honors. I really don’t find the competition to reach the top fun anymore. You might say I’m slowly bowing out of MMOs in general.
So yeah, GW2 does appeal to me as I can be as casual as I want to be at this stage of my MMO career, so you’re definitely right about that OP.
Well, a lot of guys do Arah with solo or with 2-3 party members, so it’s not necessarily what happened. I’m kinda curious though, as I’ve done so many dungeons in my GW2 playtime (I once had 9k Koda tokens from HOTW P1 alone), but never encountered this, yet the thread starter got FOUR in a single day alone.
That said, if it really is an issue, then screenshots are the sole proof.
They’re alright, but like Daecollo said, it’s hard to find a matching set for them.
I’d like to see a non-stereotypical Asura. Maybe someone who values brawn more than brains, thus is kind of an outcast in Asuran society as he holds little value for their magitech. Maybe someone who is a lot more compassionate yet flawed than your average Asuran.
I’d go human, since they’re the easiest to pick a good look for. Norn is as well, but the males have a weird body shape. Sylvari just look weird with anything not plant-themed. Charr, I’d avoid since they clip with everything and most armor look bad on them. Asura are okay if you’re alright with the smaller armor and weapon details.
You can go hybrid and do an AH spec with zerker gear if you’re not comfy with full zerker.
Uhh, primary colors don’t really go well together, unless you wanna look like the US flag.
15 minute use, 15 minute CD if we really need a CD.
