I think this change will be way more detrimental to casual players approaching to “competitive” play than people seem to think, while at the same time greatly reducing playstyle variety inside a single match.
A lot of people already have multiple characters of the same class with different builds, and they swap it before the game starts based on enemy team composition, and a lot of teams already join the match at the latest possible time except for one player “scouting” to “hide” their build and get into the match with the appropriate composition. Necro and engi? Let’s bring double guardian with more condi removal in their builds. Double mesmers? Sounds like we could use that backstab thief. One guardian no ele? Uh uh, let’s go with a crapload of condi. Casuals won’t do this. And they’ll get stomped even more brutally than they do now.
Mid game, no weapon swapping means pretty much no swiftness for A LOT of classes. Do you think this help casuals? No, they will get even more punished because with inferior map control and awarness they’ll be even slower to react.
No utilities swapping? It just hits variety and fine play. As a mesmer, not being able to switch my utilities hinders what i’ll be able to do immensely, and pigeonholes me in semi effective sub par builds. Say i’m side point holding portaling around when needed. Do i bring that null field? They have a thief on their side. Is he the roamer? Most likely, especially with this no weapon swap thingie hindering other fellas mobility. Is he a caltrops build? I’d need null field. Is he pw or backstab? Null field wasted, one slot wasted. Not bring null field for blink and mirror images standard setup? Good luck if he’s caltrops and he comes to me.
Not being able to adapt is NEVER good.
you are forced to adapt your teamplay instead of your skill bar. and it is good.
gw1 was this. you built a 8players team with your own strategy and u could fight against every kind of build. if you rolled a 8man spike build and opponent played a split build it was up to you to decide what ws the right strategy to win. oh and often it was also a matter of map.
sadly this is not gw1, but the spirit at least is the same..now..

and about last question: it is DESERVED. if you play with no stubreak and opponent strategy goes around CC it is your fault, not theirs.

To the “Pro” Players opposed to this change. Please explain how being forced to overcome the weaknesses of your build rather then merely retooling yourself on the fly to the optimal build for any situation requires less skill? If you’re able to make yourself optimal for anything, then at least the way I see it, you’re playing easy mode. So now you’re going to have to reassess the way you play if you want to keep your loafty standing.
The game has changed and now you have to pay more critical attention to your builds.

it is lame switching stuff according to enemy team: “oh they are condition spam? let me use null field instead of second breakstun/let me swap weapon to kill this one, then go back to previous to kill another one”. yeah very smart. should be a good esport really.

the day anet will lock utilities, traits, runes, will be the day balancing will start to be easier more satisfying for players.

afaik basilisk venom was reworked in a past patch.
they made it a stun (so stunbreakable) but they have increased the duration.
in gw1 there was the BALANCED build , maybe with this fix , gw2 meta would evolve in that way.

1. Being the voice of balance is exactly what these forums do. It happens so much that every other post is someone complaining about balance or complaining about someone complaining about balance.
2. I paid $60 dollars… guess how much work I plan on doing. You guessed it… none. I plan on doing no work.
3. The state of sPvP is 100% the ANets issue (for good or for bad). The state of the eSports scene is what you may have meant?
4. League of Legends became an eSport well before replays and other eSport related things came into fruition, largely because of, yup, streaming. My guess as to why it isn’t taking off? Because bunker is boring as hell to watch.
5. Other reasons the community seems largely inactive? Because sPvP boils down to a handful of builds, a handful of team comps, and a handful of strategies, none of which takes a huge amount of digital ink to explain.

Also, a correction on what someone said earlier. GW1 did not launch with Observer mode. That took a year or two (I want to say). I also want to say that the game did not launch with all of HA, GvG, TA and RA, but I’m not sure on that.

there was HA playing pve.

after the interview i was asking myself the same thing… what is the purpose of the skill if it’s 2 easy to doge by good players and one shots noobs. Maybe lower it’s damage but make it not root you. I don’t rly understand how skills are invented but the amount of weird skills just baffles me. Ranger long bow auto attack has more damage the further the target is…. how is that even logical ? does the arrow accelerate in mid air or how on earth would something be more damaging after it travels a longer distance then just getting shot point blank.
first of all it is a game. not RL so if they want long bow to do more dmg the further the target is..why not? i don’t see so many elementalists when i go to work..how can it be possible?

I’m pretty sure it’s not that Shukran. Most conditions work in x times per second pulses. Chill should work the same. Otherwise, afflicting a 1 second chill would be the same as afflicting a 6 second chill – in that – they both would increase the cooldown of the 15 second CD to 25 seconds, which is incredibly OP.
well, chill is a 1-stack-long-duration-condition. so if you have 6 secs of chill, you should be carefull at spamming skills or your will have a lot of long cds skills.
if my pov is correct, chill effect is wrong and it should be given to CONFUSION (like diversion in gw1). maybe chill should slow 66% mov speed and do dmg every time you move (lame but still lore-wised :P ).
if your pov is correct, less chill duration makes less effect. and it is quite nice. but condition description failed hard.

to be realistic i would like every TRAIT bug , wrong weapon description and maps bug would be fixed.

it takes no skill to play a thief of any spec. you have to be in serious denial if you think otherwise. thieves cause way too much stress in pvp. can they be killed? yes. but im tired of fighting against thieves outside of tpvp. and im tired of them simply leaving the fight unpunished whenever they feel like it. wvw theyre all over the place, spvp theyre all over the place.
i hope we’ll see some serious nerfs in a few days. also hope to see dozens of quality trait fixes across all profession to promote build diversity. otherwise, we aint gettin far, even with the new features.
you should post some video about you playing thief in tourney. or about you being killed by thieves in tourney. i don’t know if pug tourney would be ok, but let’s deal with it
Side note: Most thiefs using the terms like noobs unskilled players would be nothing if they tired to play a balanced class like Necro Eng or Ranger and lack the skill to play something that takes skill like an ele.

i don’ t uderstand. it is one of 5 weapon skills. not THE skill. GS is good for mov speed, 100b does an aoe in front of character. it has his utility. but like every other skil it can be avoided. it is up to you to decide if dodge it or not. and it is not one shot, because it needs you to be glass cannon and it needs you to don’t move while channeling.
afaik bunker ele are good not for their hp pool or tons of toughness but for their healing / cleansing skills. so if you burst down a ele don’t letting him use his defensive skills…it is not a good example.
i never critted something more than 5-8k to a bunker guardian or defensive warrior. and they have larger hp pool and armor
it happens usually when u go from mists to pve and viceversa.

mesmers can always change their core build they used for months to find something else still powerfull.

When playing gs warrior, how do I contribute in team fights? In team fights, I tend to have difficulty contributing to damage without dying myself. Obviously, once someone gets low, bursting them contributes, or hundred blades to prevent a res, but until we get someone low, what should I be doing?
Additionally, should I be building more defensively? I currently usually go 20/30/0/0/20 with divinity runes and zerker’s amulet with soldier’s jewel.

get over it. the thief, along with d/d ele’s and bunker guards, is out of hand. burst across the board is out of hand. you will see the thief getting nerfed in various ways on the 14th. you have to be mad ignorant to not see the imbalances. there’s plenty of productive discussion in the threads i created.

as i say everytime to friends: play thief d/d cannon glass for a week in soloQ tourney and watch how simple is the class. then come back to your main and use what u learnt to outplay him.
i dont think the meta is healthy yet, but it;s getting there. it’s slightly less frustrating than it was 2 months ago. you can only push control point play so far. what we need is team DM. that should have been out first because the meta would have been a lot more exciting from the start.
boring stuff: guard bunks still top. eles are wrecking with ridiculous mobility, burst and survivability. roamer attrition/BS thieves. mesmers are just ok now.
bad stuff: necros, warriors and rangers are still bottom of the barrel (not necessarily useless, but UP in current meta for sure)
interesting stuff: necros are actually kinda good.
anyway, in the latest interview, Mr. Sharp seemed to have accepted the bunker as a legit role. i dont think bunkers are going away. and they shouldnt necessarily. if both stability and knockbacks were nerfed together, i think there’d be a lot less derping around on single points. but then we’d just be seeing more roamers >.<

My only guess would be so that it doesn’t interfere with “On swap” attunement bonuses that elementalists have in their trait tree (there’s a few)
So for example, ele would not be able to swap back and forth between air/fire out of combat and get infinite swiftness and might stacks.

Why do warriors have a 10 second weapon swap cooldown (EVEN OUT OF COMBAT SOMETIMES), even with the Fast Hands trait?

why do all classes except for ELE can swap weapon freely out of combat while ELE has still attunements cd ?
if you think about engi, he still have at max 3 secs to swap toolkit.(engi afaik is the only class who don’t have cd for swapping. op)
there is a trait of the necro that put fear on opponent if you are CC. it works 100% against a thief who decided to steal you.
btw if you see a thief with both arms down maybe it means he is channeling. blind/fear/stun/daze him and he will waste fear+chances he is dead meat.
edit: i didnt read allthe thread, but it seems someone already talked about that trait
in 3 months also opponents monocolour will be removed.
