this game right now is a closed beta: closed because u need to buy the game to play, beta because the game is incomplete.
i can understand a lot of players like this game. but it does not means this game is competitive enough to “live” peacefully for the next 3-5 years because of no other better games.

i find difficult to find the disperation in this thief’s words. i am a thief and i dare anet to not nerf thief, as other burst builds, so we can have a nice game with all balanced build in which only spike (focus) count on kills.
Hang on, you dare ArenaNet not to nerf Thieves because you want a balanced game where focus firing is the way to kill players? Even though a Thief can spike a 3.2k armour bunker build from 100% to 0 without any assistance from other players? Having that kind of burst and stealth is the reason so many bad players flocked to Thief. Because the mechanics of the game compensate for the lack of skill these players have.
The good news is, you won’t need to level the next flavour-of-the-month profession when you abandon your Thief after stealth gets a severe nerf. The burst will be toned down (and bunker healing as well) but stealth is the real problem with Thieves, and it will be gutted for all non-stealth builds. ArenaNet will lose too many casual players if they don’t.
fun fact: you can be skilled as much as you want, just play thief and everyone will think “mechanics compensate lack of skill” you have. it is never outplay.
true fact: i rolled thief 25th of august, before that date i played mesmer. there are other players outside that didnt choose thief because of “op class”. there will be a lot of players who will stick to thief even if nerfed to ground.
silly fact: 99% of HSspam players are noobs who rolled thief to try to faceroll in spvp. they have no clue of tpvp.
tl;dr: i don’t defend thief, i try to defend the “pvp”. as long as nerfs/fixes make it good, they can nerf thief tons of times.

i see the tons of damage that thief is doing to you. and ofc the point is capped by you since stealth doesnt block you from capping.
so no damage+ no capping block = serious issue too op

what about bruiser? i think a roaming guardian who knows what ihe is doing can be a quite good PD/roamer as mesmer
You know, I was thinking of making some type of summary of everything that was discussed… But, truly there were so many topics that we talked about that it’s almost worth listening to every bit.
If I could pick key points it would probably be:
-Remove port (Don’t force teams to run a mesmer)
-Adding a ladder system
-Adding more incentives for old/current/new players alike.
-Anet being more vocal about the progression of their current projects for spvp.
-Lock character swapping, and allowing teams to “inspect” the enemy teams
spec/talent/utilities. (This may not specifically be the answer, but integrate some type of intuitive system to prevent comp wars. It will always be an issue, but allow the other team to take note and try to strategize around it.)-Fixing game-breaking bugs.
-Opening PTR to all players in GW2. (Just like in WoW, it gives other players unfair advantages and upper hands.)
-Adding more skill-shots all around the board. (Best example: Adding the burning speed mechanic to heartseeker)
-Give engi’s the help they deserve (BUFF THE MUTHA kittenS, although you may not need to buff them much at all if you remove port from this game.)
-Give all haste procs in this game the same mechanics Warriors have on Frenzy, and remove timewarps current affect. Needs to be re-vamped, imo.
-Bumping QT Vain automatically up to max rank. I think it is critical I have all the coolest looking gear in this game, it’ll definitely help the community grow!
Final words, ANET I’m not quite sure you’ve taken note what has been happening in the NA scene lately. But, these “top tier” players are reaching out to the others around and lending a helping hand. We are more than welcome to help, and we want to see this community grow (as you do). I have said it before, and I will say it again… There is a ton of skilled players out there that know their classes well. They just need a bump in the right direction with strategies, comps, metas, team synergy, and coordination. From what I’ve seen, 90% of these players are willing to branch out and help in any way possible. Please capitalize on this moment yourselves.
(Please note guys that in no way am I trying to sound elitist. I don’t have the “I’M ON A TEAM, MY WORD IS GOD” type mindset. I truly would just like to help…)

We have really different definitions of what 1 second is.
The first fight, you initiate at 0:12 and down your target at 0:16.
The second fight, you initiate at 0:42 and down your target at 0:47. You weren’t alone
The third fight, you initiate at 1:07 and down your target at 1:11.The deeps is nice, but compared to thief, ele, warrior, and mesmer, 3-5 seconds is barely considered burst damage.
ok so from 100% to 0% 2v1 in 3-5 secs can be considered hard dps or roflstomp TTK ?
- best hint ever: don’t think you are the best player around. learn to play, learn to counter, learn to lose. forum is not the right place to QQ. ask suggestions in the relative profession section of the forum. when you win you did a good job, when you lose u were outplayed. deal with it
hotjoin is 8v8 and it sucks.
if you want conquest mode 8v8 u need to raise cap points from 3 to 5 at least.
if you want DM, you need to rework the game. or go in hotjoin.

they usually prove thief is op, so why not guardian?
99% of images/video about “oh myt god im too pro to l2p so nerf thief pl0x” are in hotjoin.
Every profession or ability you design in an MMO doesn’t only have to be fun for the user, it also has to be “fun” to play against.
The Thief is obviously not fun to play against, regardless of actual power.
balance and design cant be based on personal opinions.
pvp & pve are two different worlds.
if you want to leveling and do some pvp, you play pve and go for wvwvw (so it is pvp gear based)
heart of the mists is where the PvP is. you are max level and all items and skills are unlocked.
i would suggest you elementalist. or warrior. but people think warrior is UP so elementalist. btw you can play every class, so try , test, have fun

my thief, 17k hp is being killed 24/7 by phantaasm mesmer builds which , with only illus. berserk take out 15k hp. only a skill. but ofc my fault because im glass cannon. no?k

The skill itself is not the main cause for the huge burst dmg, mind wrack is the culprit, a mesmer with no clones will at most crit for 3-4k dmg with blurred frenzy and in case you’re able to dodge you’ll have a spare 2s to catch your breath and prepare your own burst

I main a thief and can avoid heartseeker spam (dodge roll is so OP), but hear me out on this one. Make it an execute ability, have it do minimal (like 50 dmg above 50% hp and 200 abover 25%) until someone drops below a threshold of 25% then the full force kicks in. I believe HS spam would stop. What everyone else’s opinion?
to me hs could do
zero (0) damage above 75%
poor dmg 75%<x<50%
rest as it is.
or zero (0) damage above 50%
as they want. i don’t like spamming hs and i feel sad when i see a spamming thief. more if he uses haste..
“Just because you can’t target them, doesn’t mean you can’t kill them” i have seen this statement over and over again and it’s complete rubbish and here is why :
1- no ranged atack can hit a stealth thief because you can’t properly aim it especially a mesmer gs auto attack that does not even fire without a target.
2- condition remove is stealth = 1 condition instantly removed when entering stealth and another one after 3 sec of stealth, if u enter stealth with the heal skill that means any burning bleedin poison instantly removed + 1 extra condition so it’s 4 conditions removed with 1 skill that also heals and stealths.
3- thief movement speed 50% while in stealth so if you can tell me you can predict and kill a toon with max movement speed and invisible which is also trying to run away from you i would like to congratulate you on being to awsome
1- try channeled attacks. they works. a good ranger ownz thief for example. aoe kills thief because , you know, they are cannon glass.
2- you need to spec to have that trait.
3- you need to spec to have that trait. if thief go away you won the fight.
if thief spec in survivability, he lose potential damage.
a good way to improve countering thieves is asking friends for 1v1 or 2v2 in some empty spvp rooms. soon or later you will start to understand how to counter and how to react to thief burst.

skill cap vs effectivness doenst exist, but it is only a “l2p issue”: a spec can be a noobstomper, and being useless against competent opponents.

I mean you can grind gold for gems forTourny Tickets and finishers I guess but that’s about it…
