I’m guessing you posted this because you haven’t seen much of a chance in balance/bugs in quite a while. That because programmers are working on Matchmaking atm. AKA letting Newbies playing with newbies and pros with pros. Also that’ll give another progression system with in itself.

if yes: 160 is melee. autoreveal in a range of 160 is too small. i suggested a radius of 1200 from every opponent reveal you.
every trait in shadow arts should be reworked. fleet shadow would be op. etc etc.

this is the list of stuff that make stealth in gw2. excluding combo that need a lot of resources to stack stealth, there is only shadow refuge that give 10-12 secs stealth at max. how do you idea work in a real battlefield? can u give some example of how your idea works?

i think if this idea could be put in game it should have at least 1200 range. at least. and it would need a complete rework of all thief traits that works with stealth.

dear aNet, the same issue happend today again with a thief using heartseeker.

This is even worse, since i took 7k damage in a single hit, after avoiding its burst and trying to juke him just to end up being screwed by a 450 range leap finisher.

Please, this is not funny.

i am quite confident with thief and , even if 3/4 secs is a very tiny channeling (this thread meaning), it is never happened to me to move while leaping to opponent. if it is as you say, fix it anet . but i think you only saw 2 hs one after each other.

@Turbo Whale.1738 : i sayd and i repeat HS is strong, but why it is strong? because thief put all his effort in damage output gear and traits. obviously his skills does so much damage. but HS doesn’t give any kind of protection, so in the time you leap at the target u can be focused. and a thief with 14k hp with no protection during skill animation means that he must (should) think about risk/reward everytime he “spam” hs.

try to play every class with berserk – scholar – 25/30/x/x/x and see how long you live.

i was baned till yesterdday and i dont like to be reported just now..but..
it is only a whine about thief…still….you wrote in dept thread. and u did 3 examples, 2 of thief.
why didnt you take in example shatters?
you were right, at the first part: cleansing fire may be “cheap”, because whatever u are doing, its effect works.
but what is the effect of steal if you dodge it? the answer is: if trickery trait V u take just 3 boons for 45 (37) secs cd. so steal is cheap? i think it is some kind of “high risk high reward”. obviously against decent opponents.
HS works better against newbies who dont know how to dodge. try use hs spam against war shield or guardian barrier. or against #3 thief shortbow/evasive attack shortbow ranger. it is a waste of initiative. it doesnt mean it is not strong. yea it is strong!

just to saye, mug alone does a normal damage. problem is it can crit so numbers grow high.
so u have chances to evaporate opponent if you crit all the combo, but u can also be killed after combo if any hit crit.

tbh, hs isn’t always dodge able.. played my nec and it hurts to see how thief can spam heartseeker all day with a 450 range gap closer… no skill required at all… sometimes on my thief i try to shadowstep the opposite side hes facing and guess what…
he INSTANT turned with his heartseeker and kept spam it. especially for a glasscannon it hurts. i play thief myself and im not that fond of heartseeker, but oh boy it requires alot of skill to press 2222222222222222 and chases wherever he goes, u can even blindfold the player and lets see if he kills some 1…
just make heartseeker target ground skill, so atleast he has to aim a bit and that people won’t get chased ANYWHERE they go.

i like this, but ground target = buff a little the damage

Heartseeker is the only problem.

HS is the skill that separate good players from noob players.
the ones who can avoid HS, dodge, and deal with it , and the others who can only whine .

what if instead of long duration stealth , they give thief more evade skills?and some more blink skills. something like s/d #3 or p/d #3 but in every set. so ppl won’t lose target, won’t fight a battle with a 24/7 stealthed oppponent, skills will be used smarter.

-thief =! rogue
-you need a lot of practice, so don’t start whine when you start playing pvp.
-don’t play 8v8. at least hotjoin 5v5
-fotm are guardian, mesmer, ele, thief, so i suggest you play ranger XD
-pvp = rank up, pve = lvl up
-pvp is not gear based

what i want:
2. open world pvp. i don’t know how this would work, but i really love the concept of questing whilst being able to be attacked at any time.

This sounds good, but imo is not what the game needs. First of all, questing solo is fairly hard, and rightly so. But when you then add the possibility of being attacked by other players at any time, then it gets down right impossible.

No, what I am thinking is Guild v Guild, maybe dueling, and just some more sPVP modes.

aion had a lot of open world pvp and i can say: the most nerd/geared wins. and by wins i mean a certain location forbidden to other server. if anet work on this “issue” maybe it can be a very good idea

The problem is, the thief is the only class you really don’t have to play intelligently right now and still have a good chance of winning. Even if you don’t win, you have the best chance to escape alive in the game. If you’re a very skilled player, you just never die as a thief…you never have to.

I’ve got an idea and I’ll probably be flamed by thief-main players for this one….but how about this to control spam:

  • Base Initiative regen increased slightly
  • Initiative regen slows as more initiative is spent
  • Spending all Initiative triggers a long-count cooldown to start Initiative regen

That last part wouldn’t be longer than maybe a second or so, but it would be enough to give pause. And these changes would be enough to make thieves think a little more and possibly have a rotation instead of going D/D and spamming 22222222 when their Steal+CnD+Backstab didn’t finish their target immediately, then swapping to a shortbow and teleporting at a 900 range twice while stealthed.

Assuming i dont spam any skill but i just, as thief, use all 5 skills in a row, you dont die. i have cd to start initiative regen+ slow regen cause i used all my initiative.
cool way to destroy thief class.

Usually teams use some other private voip.
Also the people I play with in frees are randoms, most of which have severe anger issues and maturity deficit problems it seems. I haven’t done paids since my pvp group left before they were implemented for P.Side2. I’ve done a few ‘team forming’ experiments and yet all I run into it seems are divas with ego issues. Watch the ‘pro’ streams and it’s kids talking trash about the pugs they’re stomping while circle stroking their own imagined magnificence. It’s mildly disgusting.

call of duty: you enter a server, game gives you vopi for both teams. someone rage? you mute

gw2: you start tourney, game gives you voip for both teams. someone rage? press B, mute (as league of legends).
give option to turn off in hotjoin.

How can you say that there is no negatives just because you can turn it off?

Every single time I’ve played these wonderful fps games there’s always ATLEAST one guy ruining voip by being a belligerent kitten

If you turn your voip off you’re hurting your team you have to either mute or kick the kitten and then hope the next guy is normal, people rage way too much in pickup games already, just check out map chat, I don’t want to hear scrub player x telling scrub player z why his build is kitten and 4 signets is a terrible idea or raging after someone fails to stomp and then I have to listen to him for the rest of the game.

public voip opens up a can of worms for the company; do we Moderate voip? if so how; who’s going to pay for massive voip servers; New security problems etc etc

I don’t want to be singled out for not using terrible services, but I pug a lot, and I’m sure people would start singling me and others like me out for not using public Voip.

Public voips in games have only shown how many angsty tweens, poorly raised children and moronic ‘adults’ there are out there. It’s like concentrated ear pollution. No thank you. I can only hear kitten *t, umad’, and other stupid meme crap so many times in one life and that got exceeded a long time ago.

This is not true, skills have a cast time and after cast based on the animation they use. To ease any thief worries we are not limiting back to back skill use on purpose. This is in fact the point of initiative and why thieves feel different than other professions.

just curious, are you happy with and is it your intention for moves with no cast time to be able to be used in the middle of a move with a cast time? For instance lightning flash during churning earth and steal during cloak and dagger.

Yes this is part of the design of the combat.

The biggest issue with initiative is that it forces you to spam. As a thief, what incentive is there to use any skill other than heartseaker on dagger? I don’t even know what the other skills on my bar do. There is no trade-off involved in choosing which skill to use. When I play other professions, I’m forced to use different skills due to cooldowns and therefore I’m forced to manage which skills I use and when.

The initiative system is poorly designed IMO. It doesn’t give the thief a more “thief-y” feel. In fact, I’d argue the exact opposite. Thieves/assassins are supposed to be highly coordinated and conscious of their actions.

i would appreciate some kind of “combo” gw1-style:
start combo with skill #1,
then skill #2 and #3 become part of the combo with different effects,lengthening the combination of comboes a thief can do.

browser pvp have 5v5 hotjoin. if you need to test stuff with random or just play with pugs, you should go there. finding premade in tourney, even if free, is just the “normality”

if you are playtesting you should go 5v5 hotjoint. they exist, they are only down scrolling in the list.
